All Unknown Or Other Complaints (41)
Component or system that failed or malfunctioned, and availability for inspection The torque converter and transmission system in my 2020 Ford Edge have malfunctioned. The vehicle experiences transmission shuddering/stuttering during normal driving, particularly during low-speed acceleration and gear changes. The vehicle remains in my possession and is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk The transmission stuttering causes hesitation, jerking, and unpredictable power delivery while driving. This creates a safety risk, especially when accelerating from a stop, merging into traffic, or driving at low speeds in congested areas. The lack of smooth and reliable acceleration increases the risk of rear-end collisions or loss of control, putting both myself and other drivers at risk. Confirmation or reproduction of the problem The issue has been consistently reproducible during normal operation of the vehicle. The symptoms have been observed repeatedly and were confirmed by a dealer/independent service center, which identified the torque converter and transmission as the source of the problem and advised that significant repairs or replacement would be required. Inspections performed The vehicle has been inspected by a dealership and/or independent repair facility. The manufacturer has not yet directly inspected the vehicle beyond dealer diagnostics, but the vehicle is available for further inspection if requested. Warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to failure There were no immediate warning lamps at the onset of the issue. The primary symptoms were transmission shuddering, stuttering, and rough shifting, which gradually worsened over time. These symptoms first appeared during regular driving and became more frequent and severe, indicating progressive failure of the torque converter and transmission system.
The transmission started to fail while driving without any problems beforehand. It caused a huge safety risk while driving in a big city.
At around 82,000 miles my 2020 Egde started started having acceleration issues from 0-40, this was right after my warranty expired. I have kept up with all maintenance since bought new in 2020. No warning lights show on dashboard and took to 3 mechanics, which during diagnostic testing showed only a mis-fire and then was told the torque converter needs replaced which is a few thousand dollars.
The back up camera for 2020 Edge model should be added to previous recalls. It is real foggy and sometimes it shows clear.
Transmission shudder at 19,000 with Powertrain control module reprogrammed and currently at 40,0000 miles torque converter issue being addressed
Gear change struggles and shudders during 2nd to 4th gear (18-39 mph) when pressing the gas pedal. Driving in sport mode does help but not for long. This problem disappears when cruise control is activated. Went to workshop and had to replace the torque converter. Several owners report similar problems. I bought this car with a mileage of 103,000 miles and it seems to already have some jerking during gear changes but not as bad. It got worse around 120,000 miles. The safety was not of a concern, but the driving dynamics was concerning since the whole vehicle was shaking during gear changes. I checked the NHTSA website and it this vehicle did not have any recalls so far. Another slightly minor but inconvenient issue is the TPMS sensor malfunction. Most of the time the sensors seem to be working perfectly but every time I drive above 50 mph for at least half an hour the dashboard shows TPMS sensor malfunctioning. After I turned off the engine for at least 15 to 30 minutes and I turn on the engine again. The problem seems to disappear temporarily
Bucking/shuddering transmission issues with 8F35 transmission. Vehicle shudders under 40MPH. This is a software issue from Ford and should be a RECALL and not a TSB (TSB 21-2389), since this is an issue that will eventually lead to transmission failure due to no fault of the owner. Ford needs to be held accountable for their own faulty parts, rather than charging for a software upgrade that is not guaranteed to correct the issue.
Car shudders and lurches upon acceleration and while utilizing gas pedal. Continues throughout the drive. Front center camera alerts to a crash when not even close to one. Sync system goes black on the screen, especially upon starting the ignition and when car is in reverse.
I got into my parked car, turned it on put it in drive and it barely went. I looked down at the dash and it had a wrench lit up on it. I pulled over and looked up what codes it gave me on my app. There were no warning signs before this event.
For last 3+ years Rear reverse camera remains blank and screen becomes unresponsive Unable to use steering wheel buttons to change radio station or volume. Can get working again by performing a system reset (press seek and volume knob) Took to Ford dealer for the camera recall 20C19 when recall first came out. As parts were not available, dealer stated they could not apply fix Due to work schedule, finally able to reschedule in Dec 2024. After fix had been applied, reverse camera continues to stay blank and inoperable. Took back to Ford dealership. Dealership stated this was not under the recall as it is caused by a bad apim module. Warranty had expired by this time so that did not cover this either. The end failure symptom is the same as the recall but not caused by the same component therefore is not covered. Cost to replace is >$1000 so not affordable to repair. Had a few close accidents caused by the lack of reverse camera function. Vehicle is available for inspection. If the end failure is the same as that caused lack of safety requiring a recall, why would the apim module also not be replaced under recall?
My Ford Edge only has a little over 37,000 miles on it, it’s an 2020 model. Electronic throttle body went out. The car lost all power, when trying to mash the gas peddle , the power was decreasing, the engine was missing and running extremely ruff.I barely was able to get off to the side of the interstate safely. The brakes went out , my car issued 7 different power failures involving powertrain, restraints, anti-lock system , hill start, pre-collision , 2 repeated the same warning. These warnings only came on after the car lost power, not before. I had to have it towed. Since I have AAA, I had them tow it to their repair shop since it was only a few miles from where I was stranded. They replaced the throttle assembly. I tried to find out if there was a recall , no recall, but there has been class action suits against Ford for this same reason.
The rear view camera glitches and the display is either blacked out or scattered. The motion sensor does not always work when this happens. I was not aware of an on coming car while backing up causing a safety risk. The screen will start glitching and become distorted while I am already backing up, making it hard to know where the objects are. There are not any warning lights to indicate a problem. I brought the car to the service center at the dealership from where I purchased it, They said I would have to pay for a new camera. I did not do that because there is a recall in the 2021 model and other Ford vehicles for the same issue .
Transmission needs to be replaced at 60k miles. This issue seems to be encountered way too often with this vehicle.
Transmission: 2 quarts low; shuddering; I get my car serviced very regularly at Riverside Ford Macon Ga; car began to shudder; had transmission fluid checked, 2 quarts low; looked up online and discovered issues with 2020 Ford edge transmission problems
Driving normally to work, without a warning the car started vibrating and jerking vigorously when the car is turn on…if i try to drive it the car rolls but doesn’t want to break.
Transmission issue, unable to diagnose with error codes as the system does not recognize it
I purchase this vehicle last year and its facing transmission problems already.
A/C compressor failure. Unknown cause. Marginal safety impact - A/C necessary during extreme heat due to heart and lung conditions. Problem reported to, diagnosed by, and fixed by Nucar Ford Service (Plymouth, NH). No warnings or other symptoms. A/C simply stopped working during extreme heat wave. Service department reported no recalls, but shared that there are 2-3 other vehicles of the same model with the same issue currently in the shop. Vehicle is a 2020 with 30K miles.
Powertrain issues less than 60,000 miles car having severe issues changing gears from 2 to 3rd gears, acceleration causes increase in hesitation after first gear causing hazards beginning at 20 through 40 MPH limiting ability to accelerate onto highways or appropriately pull into traffic on byways. Contacted Ford dealer locally who states the vehicle is no longer under powertrain warranty effective 12/23. Scheduled inspection at Ford dealer is 8/20. Independent repair shop scheduled 8/5. No previous or current warning lamps or lights detecting issues with system and issue began occurring 7-12-2024
Starting the engine is completely fine. However, when I shift the gear into drive or reverse, it starts shaking. As I slowly accelerate, the shaking gets worse. I think something is wrong with the transmission. According to local mechanic
2020 Ford Edge SEL SUV is currently at Ford dealership awaiting a new transmission. 2020 Ford edge sel backup camera is out and needing replaced as well.
When backing up in the morning the brakes squeak and the camera goes blank when turning on the car or backing up and collision warning is coming on when no collision. And the car jerks when sitting at light, stop sign etc. According to your records this vehicle has no recalls please check your records and get back to me.
When I was driving and made a left turn. The car completely stalled on a busy street. Car would not drive at all.
Problem with car jerking when driving went to dealership and still having the problem He said that it was internal and nothing else he can do he said he changed parts paying a $725 note a month while it sits can't drive it . scare to put on the road don't want it to break down I also end up paying out of pocket. The car was purchased through Enterprise Car Sales payment is going to Santander Consumer USA payments are always paid in advance of a week and a half.
The rear view camera on my 2020 Ford Edge works intermittently. I found recall "NHTSA ID21V011000" and called Ford, but they say this does not apply to my vehicle. The symptoms described in the recall are the same as I am experiencing. This is definitely a safety issue and I am asking that this recall be extended to include my vehicle.
I just had my car looked at by two different mechanics about rear differential. They told me those last the life of the car. So, they told me to look up recalls because that could be the issue. I only have 64000 miles on the car.
I was at a stop light and attempting to go when it turned green. It was like the gas pedal wasn't communicating with the car. I had no acceleration for a few seconds and then it was kind of trying to go and it would lose it again. It corrected itself finally, but if that happens when I'm trying turn and a car is coming, that would be extremely dangerous. It has happened a couple times in the past. The first time it happened the powertrain malfunction indicator light came on. At that time, I pulled over and turned the car off for a bit and it corrected itself.
Rearview camera displays black distorted image. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The sensors do not appear to work as designed, which coupled with the distorted image allows for accidental backing if not careful. The problem has been acknowledged by FORD via recalls on other model years, but not the 2020. Manufacturer will inspect for a fee. Police and insurance have not been involved as there has been no accident with my vehicle. No warning signs or lamps illuminated to advise of this problem at any time. The camera first started displaying the distorted image last week, 15 June 2023.
Purchased 5-25-23 from Chevy dealer with 70,000 miles on odometer. When putting car in drive to about 35 mph the car jerks then it seems to run smoother at higher speeds. Is it some sort of adaptive transmission issue or could it be something else? How do I find out without spending an arm and a leg after putting a great investment in purchasing this vehicle already? Any advice?
Driving down a private dirt road, at about 8mph the dash went red, alarms went off and almost instantly the car slammed on its own breaks. Nothing and nobody around. It scared me but i continued on. Not even 2 minutes later it did the exact same thing. Red dash, alarm, breaks. All before I could even register in my head what was happening. It was taken by rollback to the shop where we are being told “we can’t recreate the issue” Again, this was down a private lane no one and nothing around. I got out the 2nd time and observed under and around the car and there was NOTHING. If this were to occur on the road it could potentially put mine and my children’s lives in danger as they are almost always with me. I also have teens learning to drive and had this happened to them, it’s untelling what the consequences could have been. I am completely terrified to drive this car again.
The parts involved were lug nuts. I had a flat tire and was unable to remove/replace the flat because the lug wrench supplied with the car would not fit the nuts. Fortunately I had other tools available that I was able to use to remove the lug nuts otherwise I would have been stranded. When I went to a Ford service center I was informed that the lug nuts were swollen. They told me that this was a well known issue with Ford and that the lug nuts would have to be replaced. The cost to replace these lug nuts was over $200. Attached fine pictures of the lug nuts and receipt for work done. All the lug nuts were damaged by the service center in their efforts to remove them. The pictures attached are of the worst damage.
Husband was driving us home. Vehicle lost power, car started slowing down. Had to pull over to side of road. Car would restart but continued to die and would not change gears. 3 occurred for several hours. Got car towed to dealer ship. The next day car started ok. This could have caused an accident and could have killed somebody. Car is currently at dealership. Have not been told what is wrong at this time. Only have towing paper work at this time. Just received a call they says it’s the fuel pump.
On 10/22/2022 while driving on a highway at the posted speed limit, without warning the Panorama Sun Roof exploded showering shards of glass on Myself and My Wife. The glass sunroof was properly closed but the inside headliner panel was open to enjoy the sun. The moderate average temperature outside at this time was approximately 68 degrees. This vehicle currently has approximately 12,250 miles on it. When the sunroof suddenly exploded, my wife sustained cuts to her hand and both of us were covered in shredded glass, including tiny glass shards embedded in our scalps. The explosion was so sudden and loud I nearly lost control of the vehicle. Fortunately, there was minimal traffic on the road at the time of the explosion with no vehicles immediately in front of us. Research has revealed many incidents of exploding sunroofs on various Ford models, with an exceptionally high incident rate for the Ford Edge model. It was further discovered that this exploding sunroof issue in various Ford models has been ongoing since 2008 with the Ford Motor Company being made aware of this defect. Research has further indicated to date, Ford has failed to issue a recall for this serious and dangerous defect. If our grandchildren had been rear seat passengers (which is often the case), this incident could have been tragically much worse. Not only did the exploding sunroof cause a serious, dangerous and injurious safety threat to us as passengers, getting the vehicle off the road (with the interior headliner panel closed) caused a safety threat to any nearby drivers as we could hear and see the remaining shattered glass flying off the vehicle into the roadway.
We were driving my 2020 Ford Edge when my vehicle and another vehicle collided. The entire front end of my Ford was smashed in due to the force of the impact. We had to be extracted by the fire department, because we could not open the doors. My pre collusion alert system did not sound off; nor did the airbags deploy despite the rate of speed from the other car as we both entered the intersection. As a result of the airbags failing to deploy, my wife suffered injuries resulting in a trip to the ER. She is still treating with medical providers. Prior to this incident we had no indication of any safety features failing. No warning lights, messages or other symptoms. The manufacturer has been made aware of the incident but has not yet inspected the vehicle at the time of this report. It is currently being held at an auto repair shop.
Waiting in line at drive through and had my foot on the brake and my car surged forward hitting the car in front of me and they hit the car in front of them. I found no recall on my 2020 Edge titanium but this surge has happened before.
I WAS DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. WHEN WE WOULD MOVE FORWARD IT WOULD ONLY BE FOR 1 CAR LENGTH. I STOPPED, AND WHEN THE ENGINE TURNED BACK ON FROM THE AUTO START/STOP, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND, BECAUSE I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. I HAVE SEEN 2 OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE, HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

I HAD JUST ENTERED MY CAR AND WAS GOING ABOUT 45 MPH AND HAD GONE ABOUT 2 MILES WHEN I HEARD A STRANGE NOISE ON THE TOP OF MY VEHICLE I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT TO LOOK AND NOTICED THE WHOLE MOON ROOF OF MY EDGE HAD BROKEN AND WAS FALLING INTO MY HEAD LINER. IT WASN'T LIKE THAT WHEN I LEFT HOME AND IT IS A NEW CAR WITH ONLY 8000 MILES ON IT. FORD REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE NEW MOON ROOF SAYING THEY DON'T COVER GLASS, BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR AN OBVIOUS DEFECT. I GOT ONLINE AND NOTICED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF VEHICLES AND THE MANUFACTURERS DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE THEM PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT?

DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WITH GRANDKIDS AND SUNROOF EXPLODED. GLASS WENT ALL OVER MY GRANDKIDS. ONE WAS BLEEDING.

I THINK THAT THE HORN ON THE 2019 & 2020 FORD AUTOMOBILES ARE VERY UNSAFE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN IF SOMEBODY COULD NOT HERE THE HORN. VERY LOW TONE

ON JULY 4,2020 AT APPROX 10:15AM I WAS DRIVING ON PA 663 HIGHWAY. OUT OF NO WHERE, I HEAR THIS LOUD BOOM. CAR IN FRONT OF ME KEPT GOING, CAR IN BACK OF ME GETTING CLOSER AS I SLOW DOWN AND PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY. CAR BEHIND ME KEPT GOING. I GET OUT OF CAR AND FIND MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF SHATTERED. I HAD THE COVER CLOSED SO GLASS WAS CAUGHT INSIDE COVER. I LOOK INSIDE COVER AND FIND NOTHING BUT SHATTERED GLASS. I CALL FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. WHILE I WAIT FOR DRIVER, I TAKE PICTURES. DRIVER ARRIVES AND TOWS CAR TO NEAREST FORD DEALER WHICH IS 100 MILES FROM MY HOME. ON MONDAY, 7/6/20, I CALL DEALER SINCE I'VE ONLY HAD THIS CAR 26 DAYS. BRAND NEW, LEASED WITH 907 MILES. DEALER TELLS ME IT'S NOT UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. I'M TOLD SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT THE ROOF BUT NO SIGN OR EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING. I CALL FORD CORPORATE AND THEY TELL ME THE SAME THING. SINCE I NEED A CAR, I FILE CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE TO HAVE IT FIXED HAVING TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE AND THE COST OF A RENTAL.

THERE IS AN EXHAUST ODOR IN THE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY AFTER A HARD ACCELERATION AS IN PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. I TOOK VEHICLE TO MY FORD DEALER WHO SAID THERE WERE KNOWN PROBLEMS REPORTED ON MY MODEL VEHICLE. I SINCE FOUND A FORD TSB 18-2057 THAT COVERS THE ISSUE, BUT FOR YEARS 2015-2018. IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM EXISTS ON THE 2020 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES, TOO. *TR
