Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2005 Ford Escape on November 25, 2025. The contact discovered a mileage and VIN discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 199,500. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a routine inspection, and the dealer informed the contact that during the diagnostic test there was another VIN was associated with the vehicle, and the mileage listed on the diagnostic test was 199,345. The other VIN linked in the diagnostic test for the vehicle was associated with a 2006 Ford Escape, and the mileage was 199,345. It was later discovered that the dealer who had sold the vehicle to the contact had purchased the vehicle in 2018, and the mileage was 199,876. The contact stated that the mileage on the reverse side of the Title was 199,876. The Police were notified; however, no assistance was provided.

Drove vehicle to drop off dog at sitters, started vehicle began to make u-turn and vehicle stalled. Attempted to restart, cranks but won't run. Recently purchased from used car dealer, new battery was installed, no trouble up to this point. Began checking usual problems, fuel delivery, crank pos.sensor, cam pos sensor, have no spark. Upon further research this appears to be faulty coils, spark plugs and pcm from factory but no recall has been employed. Possibility of collision during u-turn very likely. Loss of power to all systems could cause extreme risk to life at higher speeds. Ford Motor Company is aware of this problem, with the high number of similar problems in the NHTSA data base it is impossible for them not to know. The NHTSA should force Ford to fix this. If you make a product that can be dangerous if faulty, you are responsible to the public to do the right thing. I think that if the governmental agency responsible for traffic safety won't do their job then a class action lawsuit should be started. I bet I could find a good lawyer in the SF Bay area.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated while his son was driving 30 MPH, the vehicle turned off inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's son shifted into neutral(N) and veered to the side of the road. The contact's son was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact's son then drove to his residence. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

NEW FORD DIAGNOSIS- NEW PLUGS & COIL PACK, INTAKE GASKET. 170,000 MILES. MY ALARM RANDOMLY GOES OFF TOO WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE LIGHT FOR THE AIRBAGS IS YELLOW AND HAS BEEN FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. I ASK THE MECHANIC WHAT THAT MEANT. HE TOLD ME THE AIRBAGS WOULDN'T DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. I ALSO FOUND OUT THE MODULE THAT CONTROLS THAT ALSO CONTROLS THE AUTO LOCK ON THE DOORS WHEN YOU TAKE OFF. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT I'M NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR SO I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY BUT THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THAT, NEEDLESS TO SAY, I JUST HOPE I DON'T EVER NEED THEM. THE MODULE JUST GAVE OUT AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS BEEN ON ANY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON. I NO LONGER HAVE THE REPAIR BILL KRAPHOL FORD GAVE ME. ON 01/30/2016 I SENT IN A COMPLAINT BUT AS FAR AS I KNOW, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT, SO THIS IS A REPEAT.

I MADE IT TO MY MECHANIC SHOP THEY RAN THE CARE FOR CODES AND NO CODES CAME UP AT ALL. MY MECHANIC HAS DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT SOME 2005-2008 FORED ESCAPES HAVE RECALLS. HE FEELS AS MY CAR IS ONE BECAUSE MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE RECALL. IN THIS ARTICLE I HAVE HAD ALL OF THESE ISSUES.THE 2005 ESCAPE HAS PROBLEMS WHERE THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. FORD FINALLY ISSUED A SEPTEMBER 2014 RECALL. TIME WILL TELL IF THE RECALL FIX REALLY SOLVES THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER THE 2005 ESCAPE ALSO HAS A DEFECT WHERE THE PCM (POWER CONTROL MODULE) FRIES AT AROUND 100K MILES. FORD EXTENDED THE PCM WARRANTY TO 80,000 MILES, BUT ONLY AFTER MOST OWNERS WERE PAST THE MILEAGE LIMIT. NOW OWNERS ARE ON THE HOOK FOR THE AVERAGE REPAIR COST OF OVER $2,000 (!!)

NOW FORD WONT REPAIR MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD (IT HAS LESS THAN 116,000 MILES).

AT SHOP, I WAS TOLD THE SPARK PLUGS, COILS AND PCM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THAT ORDER ($795), THEN THE COILS ($600), THEN THE PCM ($1400) NOT INCLUDING LABOR. A EX-FORD MASTER TECHNICIAN SAID FORD NEW OF PROBLEM AND REPLACED THOSE COMPONENTS WHEN THE CARS CAME INTO THE SHOP. FORD HAS A SEPARATE SOFTWARE CHECKING PROGRAM ONLY DESIGNED FOR FORD ESCAPES TO TEST THE PCM FOR DAMAGE CAUSED BY FAULTY PLUGS. APPARENTLY A RECALL OCCURRED FOR SOME VINS, WHEN I CONTACTED FORD HEADQUARTERS I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT MADE AT A PARTICULAR PLANT ERGO MY BURDEN TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. RECALL WAS IN 2014 FOR ESCAPES WITH 80,000 MILES OR LESS WHILE IN WARRANTY. THIS IS A COMMON WELL-DOCUMENTED ELECTRICAL COMPONENT FAILURE WHICH OCCURS AFTER 80,000 MILES.

ALTERNATOR AND STARTER BOTH GOOD - ONCE PUT ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE - THE CAR STARTED SMOKING AND SPARKING. END RESULT - I HAVE AT LEAST 3 COILS, POTENTIAL FRIED WIRE HARNESS AND PCM FAILURE (A LOGGED COMPLAINT BUT NEVER A RECALL). THE POTENTIAL FIX WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN IS 5-8K. MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY HURT IF SOMEONE WOULD HAVE PLOWED INTO US. THIS IS NOT A SAFE VEHICLE AT ALL!

OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2005 FORD ESCAPE. SHE HAD JUST GOTTEN ON THE TURNPIKE - AS SHE WAS DRIVING THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN - THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CAR DIED. SHE LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS NOT HURT. IT WAS ABOUT 99 DEGREES OUTSIDE AT 2:00 IN THE AFTERNOON. WE HAD TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS AND COIL HAD BURNED UP AND IT WOULD BE $2,200 TO REPAIR THE CAR. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE, THIS IS S COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 FORD ESCAPES. THERE ARE NO RECALLS. FORD HAS SAID TO KEEP THE RECEIPT IN CASE THERE ARE RECALLS IN THE FUTURE. THAT IS LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE FACT THAT WE ARE OUT $2200 NOW AND DON'T FEEL SAFE HAVING OUR DAUGHTER DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. SHE HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON HER CAR. WE HAVE TRIED TO FIX THIS BUT IT LOOKS BAD AND NO ONE WILL GUARANTEE A REPAIR ON IT BECAUSE THEY SAY IT'S A MANUFACTURING ERROR AND IT IS A DIFFICULT REPAIR. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO AUTO ELECTRICAL MECHANIC WHO TELLS ME IT IS A FAULTY DASH CONSOLE AND NOT THE VEHICLE COMPUTER AND DASH GAUGE CONSOLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A NEW PART COST OF $700. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER STATED THE PCM HAD FAILED CAUSING THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS TO ALSO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 WEEKS WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT PCM; DEALER STATED THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF PCM AVAILABILITY DUE TO AN EXTREMELY HIGH NATIONWIDE DEMAND FOR THE PART. DEALER REPLACED THE PCM, AS WELL AS ALL COILS AND SPARK PLUGS IN MID MARCH 2014; THE TOTAL COST OF WAS, $2,875.70. THE PCM, COILS AND PLUGS HAD ALSO BEEN REPLACED IN 1/2009 FOR THE SAME FAILURES. COILS AND PLUGS WERE ALSO REPLACED AN ADDITIONAL 2 MORE TIMES BETWEEN 2009-2014. WHEN THE PCM FAILS, THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOOSES ALL POWER, STEERING AND BRAKES, AND STOPS DEAD IN ITS TRACKS AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED CAUSING A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC SITUATION. HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC, A MAJOR COLLISION WOULD HAVE BEEN EMINENT AND A FATALITY PROBABLE. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD ON 3/19/2014, THEY STATED THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND ASSIGNED 2 CUSTOMER CARE CASE NUMBERS; BUT THEY REFUSED ANY REIMBURSEMENT OR COMPENSATION OF ANY KIND. IN ORDER TO REPAIR THIS INOPERABLE DOOR HANDLE SITUATION, APPARENTLY I NEED TO PULL THE INTERIOR PANELS, REMOVE THE EXTERIOR HANDLES AND REPLACE THEM ENTIRELY. THEY EXAMINED THE CAR AND LATER THAT DAY TOLD ME THE COILS OVERHEATED AND FRIED THE PCM. NOW IT NEEDS NEW COILS ON 2 CYLINDERS, POSSIBLY MORE, AND A NEW PCM WITH REPROGRAMMING. COST QUOTED WAS $3520. THE SERVICE TECH THAT LOOKED AT THE CAR SAID HE HASN'T SEEN THIS BEFORE, NOR HEARD OF THIS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, I DON'T BELIEVE HIM. THERE IS A TSB OUT ON THIS "KNOWN" ISSUE HOWEVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD ONLY EXTENDS UP TO 80,000 MILES. PRETTY CONVENIENT SINCE THE AVERAGE FAILURE MARKER IS 98K MILES. ALSO CONVENIENT THAT FORD WAITED UNTIL 99.99% OF ALL AFFECTED DRIVERS WOULD BE OUTSIDE OF THEIR "WARRANTY" PERIOD BEFORE GRACIOUSLY EXTENDING SAID "WARRANTY". HOGWASH. I WAS ON 495 AT NIGHT AND THE DASH BOARD STATED THAT THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN SO THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT OVER HEAT. I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO PEP BOYS IN ANNANDALE, VA AND THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS BEING RESUBMITTED, SINCE I BELIEVE THE REEVALUATION OF THE 09 AND NEWER FORD ESCAPES IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN OCCURRING WITH THE EARLIER YEAR FORD ESCAPES, BUT HAS NOT RECEIVED REVIEW. A DEFECTIVE PCM WHICH CAUSES COMPLETE AUTO SHUTDOWN, BURNING OUT THE COILS, ETC. HAS DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET IN CAR COMPLAINT AND BUYING SITES FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE PCM IS DEFECTIVE ON THE ESCAPE AND WHEN IT STOPS FUNCTIONING ALL POWER IS LOST, AND THIS OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING LEAVING ONE WITHOUT BRAKES, POWER STEERING, ETC. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD AND YET FORD REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THE BILL IS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $2500-3000 TO BE SHOULDERED BY THE CUSTOMER. FORD KNEW THERE WERE PROBLEMS BY ISSUING TWO TBS, YET THEY PREFERRED TO LET US PAY FOR THEIR ERROR. I FOUND OUT THAT FORD MAY REPAIR IT IF IT HAD LESS THAN 80,000 MILES AND LESS THAN 8 YEARS OLD. IN DOING SOME INVESTIGATION THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE EMISSION WARRANTY ONLY COVERS YOU FOR 8 YEARS/80,000 MILES. NOT SURE WHAT A PCM MODULE IS OR WHAT COILS DO. A QUICK SEARCH ON CAR COMPLAINTS TOLD US WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES, AND IT APPEARS TO BE A TIME RATHER THAN MILEAGE FAILURE. (A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL TUNE-UP,ETC. HAD BEEN PERFORMED ABOUT A YEAR EARLIER). I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS WAS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF A FORD INTERNAL MEMO INDICATING WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THE MODULE MALFUNCTIONED. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT I HAD JUST EXITED AN INTERSTATE, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS AND IT SEEMS THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS PROBLEM. I CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS YEAR AND MODEL WASN'T RECALLED - ACCORDING TO THOMPSONS, THERE IS A BACK ORDER FOR THE COMPUTER MODULE FOR THIS CAR, TWO WEEKS MINIMUM DUE TO SO MANY ESCAPES 2005 NEEDING THIS SAME COMPUTER BECAUSE IT WAS SHORTED OUT PREMATURELY AND UNSAFELY. IT NEVER HAPPENS WHEN YOU DRIVE LESS THAN 50 SO THIS IS STRANGE AND VERY DANGEROUS.I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REPAY US THE DAMAGES AND COSTS THAT US CUSTOMERS, HAVE DISHED OUT RECURRING EVERY 2-3 YEARS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AS DECELERATING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. CONTACTED FORD'S CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT HAD BEEN SHOVED UP 10CM. HUSBAND WAS SHOCKED, SURE I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING, BUT I HAD NOT. RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT UNDERNEATH THE UNDERCOATING. COULD NOT SEE THE RUST FROM THE OUTSIDE, SO DID NOT KNOW IT WAS HAPPENING. CHECKED LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL, SAW NO RUST, BUT UNDERCOATING LIFTS RIGHT OFF TO REVEAL TERRIBLE RUST UNDERNEATH AS WELL. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, NO SHOCK, WATER AND ROAD DEBRIS WOULD FLY RIGHT UP INTO THE CAR THROUGH THE HUGE HOLE. THIS KIND OF DAMAGE IS INCREDIBLE. ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR FROM DEALERSHIP (BRONDES FORD, TOLEDO) WAS $5752.34. CERTAINLY CAN NOT AFFORD THAT. RESEARCHED ONLINE FOR REPAIR ALTERNATIVES AND FOUND DOZENS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME TYPE OF DAMAGE TO THE SAME VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL. REPORTED THE DAMAGE TO FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP HOTLINE, WAS INFORMED THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE THAT THIS WAS A COMMON, FREQUENT, OR WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT CONSIDER IT A DEFECT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MY CHILDREN WERE AFRAID WE WERE GOING CRASH. I DECIDED TO SEARCH THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I FOUND MANY WEBSITES AND FORUMS EXPLAINING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING IN OTHER 2005 FORD ESCAPES. IT SEEMS THAT IF THIS MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM (ENOUGH FOR FORD TO PUT OUT A BULLETIN EXPLAINING HOW TO FIX IT), THEN FORD SHOULD TAKE STEPS TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. FROM THE INFORMATION I HAVE FOUND, THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT DOES NOT SHOW UP UNTIL WELL AFTER THE WARRANTY IS NO LONGER GOOD. WE WERE ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIED WITHOUT WARNING. NO TELLING WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE WERE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. WE COASTED TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER WHO STATED THE COMPUTER (PCM), ALL THE COIL OVER PLUGS (COP) AND SPARK PLUGS WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AS IT IS DESCRIBED EXACTLY IN FORD SERVICE BULLETIN TSB 09-2-6. THE SPARK PLUGS IN THE 2005 AND 2006 CAUSE RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE WITH THE PCM WHICH DAMAGES THE PCM AND THE OTHER COMPONENTS. THE LEAST FORD COULD HAVE DONE WAS NOTIFY US THAT REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THE PROBLEMS DON'T END THERE. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR WE WERE AGAIN ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 50MPH. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WHO STATED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS (THERE ARE 3 OF THEM) WERE CLOGGED DUE TO RAW FUEL COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE CONVERTERS PROBABLY DUE TO THE PREVIOUS ENGINE PROBLEMS. THE COST TO FIX THE CONVERTERS IS EVEN MORE THAN THE COST OF THE INITIAL REPAIR. WE'VE DECIDED TO NOT HAVE THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS THE TOTAL COST OF ALL THE REPAIRS WOULD EXCEED THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. WE CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP IN THIS SITUATION. I THINK FORD SHOULD COVER THE COSTS OF THESE REPAIRS FOR AN ISSUE KNEW EXISTED. I SUPPOSE I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE MY PROBLEM HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT. I HAD TO REPLACE MY POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND ALL SIX COILS AT A COST OF OVER $1200. I WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE ENGINE WAS MISFIRING ON 4 OF THE 6 CYLINDERS AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE PCM, 6 COILS, 6 PLUGS AND CALIBRATE, TOTAL $2,114.21. I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE MULTIPLE TSB: TSB 05-11-1,TSB 09-02-06 TSB 09-02-06 AND TSB 10-18-10. THE PROBLEM IS: THE WRONG SPARK PLUGS WERE INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. THIS COMBO OF WRONG PLUGS CAUSES THE COILS TO SEND EMI/RFI BACK TO THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) BURNING OUT THE PCM.EMI/RFI IS EMITTED FROM SPARKING DEVICE,IN THIS CASE A SET OF BAD SPARK PLUGS. AFTER THAT AND AT THE PRESENT TIME, NOVEMBER 20011 I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL STALLINGS ON HIGHWAYS LEAVING ME IN UNSAFE SCENARIOS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I HAVE REPLACED COUNTLESS COILS, PLUGS, HAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES, ALONG WITH ALARM TRIPPING, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS GOING OFF FOR NO REASON AND NOW AFTER A TRIP FROM NY TO VA MY CAR LET ME DOWN AGAIN. ALL 6 COPS WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH PCM. VEHICLE STILL DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY AND ON INSPECTION BY TECH, CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS FOUND TO BE PLUGGED AND WAS REPLACED. 2005 FOR ESCAPE LIMITED EDITION WAS PASSING ANOTHER CAR ON A TWO LANE ROAD WHEN THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE. HAD TO ALMOST STOP GOING THE WRONG WAY ON A TWO LANE ROAD SO THE CARS GOING THE SAME DIRECTION AS ME COULD PAS SO I COULD GET BACK IN THE CORRECT LANE AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HAD THE CODES CHECKED AND TWO OF THE 6 COILS WERE SHOWING UP AS HAVING ISSUES. CODE WERE P0352 PO354 THERE IS A TSB FROM FORD TSB 10-18-10. I HAVE REPLACED THE COILS AND THE ISSUE STILL IS THROUGH THE CODES FOR THE COILS. ACCORDING THE TSB THERE COULD BE INTERFERENCE WITH THE PCM FROM THE COILS AND PLUGS. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS ISSUE IS THAT IF I HAD NOT BEEN OBSERVANT AND CAUGHT THIS BEFORE ANOTHER CAR COMING AT ME WAS CLOSER THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A HEAD ON COLLISION BECAUSE OF LOSS OF POWER FROM THIS SITUATION. SINCE AUGUST 23RD MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNSAFE TO OPERATE WITHOUT THIS PART AS MY TURN SIGNALS, HEAD LIGHTS, AND HAZARD LIGHTS ARE INOPERABLE, AS WELL AS POWER WINDOWS, INTERIOR AND DASH LIGHTS, POWER LOCKS, RADIO AND CLOCK DISPLAY AND MY ABILITY TO UNLATCH THE REAR DOOR. THERE IS JUICE FROM THE BATTERY, ALL THE LIGHTS AND RADIO COME ON, BUT THE CAR REFUSES TO TURN OVER. WE HAVE CHECKED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE, INCLUDING: THE BATTERY, FUSES, AND HAVING IT TESTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM OR FORD PATS II SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE WHICH ALSO BE CONNECTED TO THE PCM. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2005 FORD ESCAPE PATS II SYSTEM AND PCM. CAR WAS TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY TO THE GARAGE. CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN NO MORE THAN 10 MILES AFTER FIRST SIGN OF FAILURE. FIRE WAS SMALL ENOUGH TO NOT INVOLVE POLICE OR FIRE DEPARTMENTS, SO NO FIRE OR POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND NO PROPERTY DAMAGE OCCURRED OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. MOST LIKELY THE SPARK PLUG RF CAUSED THE PCM TO CRASH. HAD TO REPLACE THE PLUGS, COILS AND PCM INCLUDING SOFTWARE AND PROGRAMMING. I HAVE READ ON SEVERAL COMPLAINT BLOGS THAT FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEMS (DEFECTIVE PLUGS) AND HAS ISSUED 2 TSB, 05111 AND 0926. PROBLEM SHOULD BE UNDER THE EMISSION WARRANTY, BUT FORD SAYS IT IS A IGNITION PROBLEM. I THINK IT IS FORD'S PROBLEM AND THEY SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I GOT LUCKY, AS I SAID, BECAUSE I JUST HAPPENED TO BE IN A BREAK IN TRAFFIC, WHICH UP TO THAT POINT HAD BEEN BUMPER TO BUMPER. THE RAPID DECELERATION WAS THE RESULT OF LOSING 3 CYLINDERS, SO IT OCCURRED WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON. WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN AND TURNED IT ON, IT EXPLODED. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD DISENTERGRATED AND SCHRAPNEL FROM IT SEVERED WIRING HARNESS, KNOCKED PARTS OFF ETC. HAVING 39K MILES ON IT I HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL TOP RATED MECHANIC. AFTER THE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE MECHANICAL DAMAGE, HE SENT IT TO BEACH FORD FOR A PCM ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE PCM (UNDER FORD WARRANTY, ADMITTING THAT THE COMPUTER WAS ?FRIED? AND THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH OTHER ESCAPES) BUT ABSOLVES ANY KNOWLEDGE OR RESPONSIBILITY AS TO WHY THE EXPLOSION OCCURRED IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE A ?THIRD PARTY PERSON? REPAIRED THE CAR BEFORE BEACH FORD SAW IT. A ?MIKE? AT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO BASED ON CONVERSATIONS WITH BEACH FORD, SAID THAT REPAIRS BY A THIRD PARTY PRECLUDES FORD FROM ANY RESPONSIBILITY AS TO WHY THE CAR EXPLODED IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY MECHANIC HAS DONE INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND OTHER REPORTS OF PCM ISSUES WITH THE ESCAPES CAUSING PROBLEMS FROM FAILURES TO EXPLOSIONS. A TECH AT THE FORD DEALER SAID IT HAS TO DO WITH STRAY VOLTAGE BEING INDUCED INTO THE WIRING AND GOING BACK UP INTO THE PCM, BUT THEN FORD AND THE SERVICE DIRECTOR DENIED ANY KNOWLDEGE OF THIS. FORD SAID THE CAR IS REPAIRED (AT MY EXPENSE) AND WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THIS SITUATION LEAVING ME WITH A CAR THAT HAS ONLY 39,000 MILES ON IT AND EXPLODED IN MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING SEVER DAMAGE, AND NO ATTEMPT TO INVESTIGATE WHY IT HAPPENED. I HAVE ALL THE DAMAGED PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED AND TOLD FORD THAT. NO ONE WILL ADDRESS WHY IT EXPLODED IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED AT 55 MPH VICE IN MY DRIVEWAY, OR MY WIFE WAS HOME AND I OPENED THE HOOD AND HAD HER START THE CAR SO I COULD LISTEN FOR THAT NOISE SHE SAID? PLEASE HELP ME OUT. *TR

FIVE WEEKS LATER, THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER TO THE LATEST SPECIFICATIONS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED BECAUSE IT WAS A FOUR CYLINDER ENGINE, THERE WOULD BE A HESITATION WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. *AK

MY WIFE STARTED OUR 2005 ESCAPE AND PLACED OUR GRANDAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT. MY WIFE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AND WHEN SHE LOOKED OUT HER WINDOW, SHE NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. SHE QUICKLY SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, REMOVED MY CRYING GRANDAUGHTER FROM HER SEAT, AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE FLAMES OUT. SHE EVENTUALLY SUCCEEDED, BUT NOT BEFORE THE HEAT CRACKED THE MIRROR AND MELTED THE HOUSING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND IT WAS DISCOVERED (AND NOTED) THAT THE HEATING ELEMENT INSIDE THE MIRROR MELTED AND STARTED THE FIRE. PICTURES WERE TAKEN AND SENT TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR REPAIR AUTHORIZATION. FORD RESPONDED WITH A LETTER TO ME, TITLED "GENERAL RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS," AND DIRECTED ME TO SIGN IT BEFORE REPAIRS COULD BE AUTHORIZED. I DID NOT SIGN THE LEGAL DOCUMENT, AS I WAS UNSURE OF THE MEANING OF ALL THE LEGAL TERMS. ON 18 FEB 05, A REPRESENTATIVE FROM FORD MOTOR COMAPANY CONSUMER AFFAIRS CALLED ME. (VINCENT D. KIRKSEY) HE WAS VERY RUDE AND DEMANDING. HE BASICALLY TOLD ME I HAD TWO OPTIONS: EITHER SIGN THE FORM AND HAVE FORD REPAIR MY VEHICLE, OR HE WOULD RESCIND THE "OFFER" AND MAKE ME GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I ASKED HIM SEVERAL TIMES WHAT THE FORM WAS FOR, AND HE REPLIED IT WAS NECESSARY TO AUTHORIZE THE REPAIR AND THAT IS WAS A POLICY OF FORD WITH THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT. I TOLD HIM IT SOUNDED LIKE I HAD A THIRD OPTION - HE TOLD ME TO GO AHEAD AND USE IT - HE WAS RESCINDING FORD'S OFFER TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. I AM CONCERNED WITH MY FAMILY'S SAFETY - WE NOW DRIVE OUR 2005 ESCAPE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN THE VEHICLE - WE DO NOT WANT TO BURN UP OR HAVE OUR VEHICLE DESTROYED.

ALSO, STEALTH SECURITY SYSTEM FAILED, AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS ALSO HAPPENED IN FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP.

CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A COMPUTER PROBLEM. WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE IN REVERSE IT WENT FORWARD, AND WHEN PUTTING IT IN DRIVE IT DID NOTHING. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP 3 TIMES, BUT MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHEN VEHICLE WAS PUT ON THE COMPUTER IT SHOWED NO ERROR MESSAGE, NOTHING WAS WRONG. CONSUMER TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON, AND IT WORKED FINE. CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS BECAUSE THIS WAS A NEW VEHICLE, 2005 MODEL. THEREFORE, CONSUMER FELT THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTIONED COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE. *AK
