The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. Upon starting of the vehicle, the contact placed the vehicle into drive(D); however, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon the depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle independently downshifted and the vehicle failed to accelerate above 30 MPH. The vehicle was shaking, and the vehicle failed to accelerate upon the depression of the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where and the contact was informed that the transmission torque converter was defective and needed to be replaced. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

Stalled out while driving down hwy. At 70 mph. Cars swirved and I almost got hit from behind due to my vehicle just cutting out. No warning lights came on it just shut off battery light n engine light then came on after vehicle lost power and I had to get off road without causing an accident which almost occurred due to the speed and area I was driving at time vehicle cut out I still have not figured out why it just cut out. Very dangerous all around.

Drove vehicle to drop off dog at sitters, started vehicle began to make u-turn and vehicle stalled. Attempted to restart, cranks but won't run. Recently purchased from used car dealer, new battery was installed, no trouble up to this point. Began checking usual problems, fuel delivery, crank pos.sensor, cam pos sensor, have no spark. Upon further research this appears to be faulty coils, spark plugs and pcm from factory but no recall has been employed. Possibility of collision during u-turn very likely. Loss of power to all systems could cause extreme risk to life at higher speeds. Ford Motor Company is aware of this problem, with the high number of similar problems in the NHTSA data base it is impossible for them not to know. The NHTSA should force Ford to fix this. If you make a product that can be dangerous if faulty, you are responsible to the public to do the right thing. I think that if the governmental agency responsible for traffic safety won't do their job then a class action lawsuit should be started. I bet I could find a good lawyer in the SF Bay area.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH and accelerating, there was a roaring sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle started accelerating at an uncontrollable speed. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the roadway and turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was not diagnosed however, the dealer stated that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. The power steering will repeatedly and unexpectedly go out when driving often when hitting a slight bump or making a turn. This never leads to a code triggered but absolutely could lead to injury or death and has been reported in so many Hybrid Ford Escapes.

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH. CAR JUST STOPPED ON A LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY. DIAGNOSED WITH FAILED TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED8/31/2011. I SEE A RECALL FOR REBUILT TRANSMISSION FOR THIS YEAR VEHICLE WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION FAILURES BUT I AM UNABLE TO FIND SUCH A RECALL.

NEW FORD DIAGNOSIS- NEW PLUGS & COIL PACK, INTAKE GASKET. 170,000 MILES. MY ALARM RANDOMLY GOES OFF TOO WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES. WHILE GOING ONTO A FREEWAY ONRAMP AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER, ALL LIGHTS CAME ON, THE ABILITY TO STEER AND BRAKE WAS AFFECTED BY TOTAL POWER LOSS. THE VEHICLE DID NOT DISPLAY ANY ISSUES LEADING UP TO THIS BUT NEARLY RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT BY THE INABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND GET IT OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER BEING TOWED, THE AUTO SHOP DIAGNOSED A P0354, P0351, P0355, P0352 IGNITION COILS, AND PCM FAILURE. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THERE ARE MULTIPLE CLAIMS OF THIS OCCURRING AND IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.

ONE DAY I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE O/D OFF LIGHT STARTED FLASHING & IT ACTED LIKE IT DIDN'T WANT TO CHANGE GEARS AT ALL. I STOPPED GOT GAS AND LIGHT STAYED ON. THEN AS I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN IT WENT AWAY. AFTER PARKING AT HOME OVERNIGHT I ATTEMPTED TO GO REVERSE & IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. AFTER SOME BACK AND FORTH WITH THE SHIFTER IT LET ME GO IN INTO REVERSE ONLY WHEN I REVVING UP AND THEN IT STARTED HAVING ISSUES IN SHIFTING OUT OF PARK. IN SEARCHING THIS ISSUE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE, END HAS CAUSED A FEW ACCIDENTS.

I WAS TOLD BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE, 130,047, AND AGE THE ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED. DYE TEST CONDUCTED BY FORD SERVICE AND NO LEAKS WERE FOUND AFTER DRIVING 500 MILES AND RETURNING TO THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO CHECK FOR LEAKS AS ADVISED BY FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. LEAVING THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT, FORD SERVICE MECHANIC INDICATES AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT IT SMOKES EXCESSIVELY ON COLD STARTUP. I HAVE REPLICATED THE COLD STARTUP PROCEDURE EVERYDAY IN COLD WEATHER OBSERVING THE TAIL PIPE EXHAUST AS MY WIFE STARTS THE ENGINE SINCE JANUARY 2018. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A SIGN OF SMOKE OR EXCESSIVE SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE TAIL PIPE EXHAUST.

THE TRANY WHEN WE CAME UP TO A STOP SIGN COMING OFF THE FREEWAY STAYED INGAGED AND THROUGH US IN TO A BUNCH OF TRAFFIC, ALMOST CAUSING A HE'LL OF A ACCIDENT.. WE'LL IT ENDED UP RUINING THE TRANSMISSION CAUSE THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKED UP AND CAUSED IT NOT TO DISENGAGE.. I ENDED UP SPENDING 3500.00 AND HAD THE DEALER PUT A OWN REBUILT IN. LATER I FOUND OUT FORD HAD 4 UPDATED TORQUE CONVERTERS.. WHY WAS THERE NOT A RECALL WHEN IT ALMOST KILLS PEOPLE.. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH EVERYTHING THAT HAS WENT ON WITH THIS VEHICLE.. TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MILES PER HOUR AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE STALLED AND CUT OFF. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT 3 OUT OF THE 6 COILS BASICALLY WERE NOT WORKING AND THE PCM/COMPUTER WAS COMPLETELY SHOT, THEY WANTED OVER $1600 AT DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS. FORD HAD APPARENTLY DISTRIBUTED A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIPS BUT NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS - WHO THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS THE MOST. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOT HIT ANYONE OR GET KILLED. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW MANY PEOPLE THIS HAS AFFECTED BECAUSE IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THESE PRICES DON'T INCLUDE LABOR OR DIAGNOSTIC COSTS EITHER. IN DOING SOME INVESTIGATION THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE EMISSION WARRANTY ONLY COVERS YOU FOR 8 YEARS/80,000 MILES. NOT SURE WHAT A PCM MODULE IS OR WHAT COILS DO. [XXX] 2005 FORD ESCAPE XLS, FWD HAD ISSUE WITH THROTTLE BODY. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO STOP THE GAS PEDAL JUST TO MAKE IT ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED STATE. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I WENT TO ACCELERATE. UPON REACHING 40. I HEARD A SUBSTANTIAL BACKFIRE NOISE, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD CAUSING ME TO BLOCK TRAFFIC AS I COASTED ALMOST INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER COASTING FOR 100+ FEET. AFTER WHICH, THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND RUGGED NEVER BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE ABOUT 30 MPH AND CAUSING MAJOR TRAFFIC PROBLEMS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP (VARSITY FORD IN ANN ARBOR, MI) AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE WAS IN TROUBLE. OUR 2005 FORD ESCAPE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN MAY 2005. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED BY FORD TECHNICIANS AT FORD DEALERSHIPS EVERY 5,000 MILES, INCLUDING A RECOMMENDED TRANSMISSION FLUSH LAST YEAR. ON A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP, THE SUV'S TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED A PROBLEM FORD MOTOR COMPANY (FMC) KNOWS AS ENGINE STALLING ON ENGAGEMENT/STOPPING. ACCORDING TO A SERVICE BULLETIN DATED MARCH 19, 2007, SUVS WITH THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION "EXHIBIT AN ENGINE STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR WHEN ENGAGING THE ENGINE INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE CONDITION MAY BE INTERMITTENT AND OFTEN OCCURS AFTER EXTENDED DRIVES. THERE MAY BE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES STORED. THIS MAY BE CAUSE BY INTERNAL WEAR IN THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH PREVENTS IT FROM LOCKING." THIS EXACT FAILURE CAUSED US TO BE STRANDED IN DANGEROUS HEAT CONDITIONS FOR HOURS AS WE WAITED FOR HELP. HOWEVER, FMC HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TRANSMISSION SINCE 2007, YET AS AN OWNER OF A CAR LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD, I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT IT. IF I HAD BEEN INFORMED, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT YEARS AGO FOR REPAIR PRIOR TO GOING ON AN EXTENDED TRIP AND PUTTING MY FAMILY IN DANGER. INSTEAD, FMC KNOWINGLY ALLOWED VEHICLE OWNERS TO DRIVE WITH THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. FORD-CERTIFIED TECH'S FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE GIVEN THE EXACT SYMPTOMS AND THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM, THE TORQUE CONVERTER. AFTER TECHS TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION WAS FINE, THE STALL OCCURRED REPEATEDLY UNTIL TOTAL FAILURE JUST OVER 1,200 MILES LATER, AGAIN, STRANDING MY FAMILY ON THE HIGHWAY. I BECAME AWARE OF THE FAULT ONLY AFTER A SEARCH OF OTHER DRIVERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WERE ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIED WITHOUT WARNING. NO TELLING WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE WERE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. WE COASTED TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER WHO STATED THE COMPUTER (PCM), ALL THE COIL OVER PLUGS (COP) AND SPARK PLUGS WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AS IT IS DESCRIBED EXACTLY IN FORD SERVICE BULLETIN TSB 09-2-6. THE SPARK PLUGS IN THE 2005 AND 2006 CAUSE RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE WITH THE PCM WHICH DAMAGES THE PCM AND THE OTHER COMPONENTS. THE LEAST FORD COULD HAVE DONE WAS NOTIFY US THAT REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THE PROBLEMS DON'T END THERE. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR WE WERE AGAIN ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 50MPH. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WHO STATED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS (THERE ARE 3 OF THEM) WERE CLOGGED DUE TO RAW FUEL COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE CONVERTERS PROBABLY DUE TO THE PREVIOUS ENGINE PROBLEMS. THE COST TO FIX THE CONVERTERS IS EVEN MORE THAN THE COST OF THE INITIAL REPAIR. WE'VE DECIDED TO NOT HAVE THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS THE TOTAL COST OF ALL THE REPAIRS WOULD EXCEED THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. WE CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP IN THIS SITUATION. I THINK FORD SHOULD COVER THE COSTS OF THESE REPAIRS FOR AN ISSUE KNEW EXISTED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AS I SEE THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO A LOT OF OTHER 2005 ESCAPES LISTED IN YOUR DATABASE. MY WIFE WENT TO ON A TRIP AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MISFIRE, WENT TO A FORD DEALER, MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM; IGNITION COIL #4 FAILED. SHE ASKED WHAT NEEDED DONE TO FIX PROPERLY SO SHE WOULD BE SAFE AND HAVE NO MORE TROUBLE. HE SAID TO REPLACE COIL, PLUGS, AND WIRES. THAT WAS DONE. ON THE WAY HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN, CAR SHUT OFF W/O WARNING ON I95 @65 MPH. PROBLEM PERSISTED AND FINALLY WOULD NOT START AND HAD TO BE TOWED. MY MECHANIC DISCOVERED FORD SRB 09-2-6. A PROBLEM IDENTIFIED BY FORD BUT NOT MADE PUBLIC. I CONTACTED DEALER; HE WAS AWARE OF SRB BUT DID NOT ACT ON IT OR INFORM US ABOUT IT. WE ARE NOW FACED WITH A BILL 2X LARGER THAN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF DEALER WOULD HAVE FOLLOWED SRB. 1. ON OR NEAR NOVEMBER 19, 2011, A SPRING FROM THE CLUTCH PEDAL BROKE. IT SEEMS TO BE ONE THAT RETURNS THE PEDAL TO ITS DEFAULT POSITION AS I HAVE TO LIFT UP ON IT FROM BENEATH WITH MY FOOT TO GET IT BACK TO ITS REGULAR HEIGHT. I'M CONCERNED THAT IT MAY CAUSE PREMATURE WEAR ON THE CLUTCH IF IT DOES NOT RETURN TO ITS STANDARD REST POSITION. THIS 2005 ESCAPE FAILED WHEN DRIVING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. FORD HAS DOCUMENTED THAT SPARK PLUGS INSTALLED BY FORD AT THE FACTORY CAN CAUSE ALL COILS AND THE PCM TO FAIL AS THEY DID IN THIS CASE. THREE TSB'S HAVE BEEN GENERATED RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING. WHILE DRIVING IS NORMAL TRAFFIC AT 35 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR STARTED LURCHING, JUMPING AND MAKING ALL KINDS OF AWFUL METALLIC GRINDING SOUNDS. THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING AS ABOUT 45MPH, SUDDENLY THE CAR TURNED OFF, I IMMEDIATELY PUT IT ON NEUTRAL AND TUNED THE KEY AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER IT DID THE SAME THING. I PARKED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF AND ON AND IT STARTED MISFIRING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. THE VERY NEXT MORNING I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A CHECK UP TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC IN WHICH I WAS TOLD THAT THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND INSTALLED BUT STILL THE MISFIRE WAS PRESENT. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ONLY ONE OWNER AND A VERY SYSTEMATIC MAINTENANCE THROUGHOUT IT?S LIFE SO FAR. ONLINE I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME EXACT THING AND ALL ADVISED THAT THE PCM WAS NON-FUNCTIONING. FORD HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THESE PARTS IN THE PAST BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. LETTER FROM SENATOR CASEY ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE CONCERNS ABOUT HER 2005 FORD ESCAPE *TGW THE CONSUMER BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HER MECHANIC, HE HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND IT GAVE HIM A READING THAT THE CYLINDER WAS NOT FIRING, BUT HE THOUGHT THERE WAS MORE INVOLVED. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE PCM WAS DAMAGED. THE PCM WAS SENT TO ANOTHER ESTABLISHMENT FOR REPAIR. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE ESTABLISHMENT INFORMED THE CONSUMERS MECHANIC THAT FORD RECOMMENDED THAT ALL SIX COILS AND SIX SPARK PLUGS BE REPLACED. THE PCM WAS RETURNED TO THE CONSUMERS MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT AWAY. THE MECHANIC CALLED THE CONSUMER AND INFORMED HER, THAT INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL CIRCUIT B MISFIRING, CIRCUIT C WAS MISFIRING. THE PCM HAD TO BE SENT BACK TO BE REBUILT AGAIN. ALL OF THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPROGRAMMED AGAIN, CIRCUITS C,D AND E WERE MISFIRING. THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A THIRD TIME. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO FAULTY ENGINEERING. THE PCM WAS PLACED BEHIND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHERE A LOT OF HEAT WAS GENERATED FROM THE ENGINE AND IT INTERFERED WITH THE FREQUENCY OF THE PCM. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 70 MPH WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, CAUSING THE OVER-DRIVE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THIS FAILURE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED OFF THE ROADWAY AND AS THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR AND THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE CONTACTS HOME AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED JUST FINE. BUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO DRIVE, IT ONLY WENT FOR ABOUT 10 FEET BEFORE IT SLOWED TO A COMPLETE STOP AGAIN. I OWN A 2005 FORD ESCAPE AND HAVE NUMEROUS ISSUES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2004. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED AND ONE COIL PACK. THROUGHOUT THE TIME I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE THE THEFT LIGHT COMES ON AND TRIED TO SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING (40+MPH). IT CLEARED FOR A LITTLE WHILE AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, THEN IT RETURNED. FORD CHANGED ONE IGNITION COIL AND SAID THAT IF WE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS IT WOULD PROBABLY FIX THE THEFT SHUT DOWN PROBLEM. WELL WE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TRYING TO SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE WHILE I WAS DRIVING(40+MPH). NOW THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AT ALL. THERE IS JUICE FROM THE BATTERY, ALL THE LIGHTS AND RADIO COME ON, BUT THE CAR REFUSES TO TURN OVER. WE HAVE CHECKED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE, INCLUDING: THE BATTERY, FUSES, AND HAVING IT TESTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM OR FORD PATS II SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE WHICH ALSO BE CONNECTED TO THE PCM. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2005 FORD ESCAPE PATS II SYSTEM AND PCM. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN FORCED. THE 2005 FORD ESCAPE WERE INITIALLY RELEASED WITH THE WRONG SPARK PLUGS WHICH CAUSES DAMAGE AND THEY DID NOT RECALL THE SPARK PLUGS. I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE V6 WITH JUST OVER 87,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A $2300 OR MORE REPAIR TO AN OTHERWISE PERFECT VEHICLE. IF I HADN'T BEEN IN THE RIGHTHAND LANE AT THE TIME OF THE POWER DROP I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A REAL MESS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING GOING ON ALL OVER THE WORLD. THERE IS ONE COMPLAINT FROM GHANA. THE TSB THAT CAME OUT SAYS THE ORIGINAL SPARKPLUGS CAUSE THE PROBLEM AND RUIN ALL THE COIL PACKS AND THE PCM. I THINK THIS WOULD MAKE IT FORD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THE PROBLEM ON ALL THESE VEHICLES SINCE IT WAS THEIR ORIGINAL CONFIGURATION THAT RUINED THE SYSTEM. INEVITABLY, I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A SHOP THEY CONCLUDED THAT MY TORQUE CONVERTER HAD BLOWN UP AND ALL THE PIECES FROM THE CONVERTER WERE SUCKED INTO THE FILTER CAUSING MY TRANS TO LOCK UP, THEREFORE COSTING ME $2200 TO FIX. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS COMPLETELY BLACK. THE MECHANIC FURTHER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, IT ENDED UP BEING AFFECTED. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME FAILURE. SHE BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SENT IN A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION OF MY 2005 ESCAPE I PURCHASED FROM THREE OAKS FORD IN 8-2005. THE DANGER INVOLVED IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING HARD IS BEING HIT FROM THE REAR. WHEN IT SHIFTS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IT JERKS EXTREMELY HARD AND DOESN'T ENGAGE ENOUGH TO CONTINUE FORWARD. I HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT TIMES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED AND I WAS NEARLY HIT ALL THREE TIMES. MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT NUMBER IS 10265230, FILED 04-13-09. *TR

NO MAJOR EVENTS LEAD UP TO THE INCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. IT WAS DISCOVERED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE PLANETARY GEAR WAS DESTROYED, AND IS ATTRIBUTED TO CAUSING ALL OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED ON A FLATBED TRUCK, AND NOW, THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND IT SHUT OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I BARELY MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AS TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SIGNS OF TROUBLE WITH MY AUTOMOBILE PRIOR TO THIS DAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PCM AND 5 OF 6 IGNITION COILS FAILED. BUT THE SPARK PLUGS WERE FINE. I REPLACE THE IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. THE CAR STILL WILL NOT START THEY ARE ADAMANT THAT I REPLACE THE PCM. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER AND SPOKE TO A FEW DIFFERENT LOCAL MECHANICS. IT SEEMS THAT MY AUTOMOBILE IS NOT THE ONLY THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT FORD ACTUALLY USES A DIFFERENT IGNITION COIL PART NUMBER NOW. I LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND HAVE A RECALL FOR FAULTY PARTS. THEY CONTINUALLY TELL ME THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE PCM TO FAIL AT TIMES. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO MAKE MONEY. *TR

HIGH SCHOOL,CAMILLUS,NY ,I WAS ON INTERSTATE 690 ,WHEN MY CAR DID WHAT THE DESCRIPTION SAID,CAR CAME TO COMPLETE HALT AT TRAFFIC LIGHT,ALL POWER WENT IN VEHICLE,LET CAR SIT FOR A MINUTE TO RESTART,IT DID AND WHEN HOME AFTER GAME. THAT MONDAY VEHICLE DID SAME THING FOR A SECOND TIME,THIS TIME,DIDN'T RESTART,CAR WAS TOWED TO NEARBY FIRESTONE STORE,GOT FIXED AND WAS TOLD ABOUT A RECALL. CALL DEALER-THEY DIDN'T NOTHING AFTER HAVING IT TWO DAY. CAR ACTED UP ON THURS. SAT I MADE APPT TO AAMCO TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIX IT,THEY DID ,FOUND OUT AFTER 1HR AND 30 MINUTES AT WORK THAT IT WAS FAULTY TRANSMISSION,COSTING ME 2600. FORD DIDN'T SEND ME ANY CARD ABOUT VEHICLE BECAUSE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM WAS BOUGHT OUT. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION FAILED, THROWING THE VEHICLE OUT OF GEAR. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR CHANGE GEARS. IT WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THEN TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION PUMP SHAFT WAS BROKEN, AND THE GEAR SURFACE WAS COMPLETELY WORN. THE INDIVIDUAL PARTS WERE REPLACED.

NEW 2005 FORD ESCAPE HAS NUMEROUS ISSUES THAT ARE NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY MULTIPLE DEALER SHOPS: - INTERMITTENT STALLING, SIMILAR TO PROBLEM CAUSING RECALL OF 2001 - 2003 ESCAPES. CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER, RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STERRING AND BRAKES. DEALER CANNOT REPRODUCE, SO WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. - GASOLINE SMELL AND LOUD KNOCKING FROM ENGINE IN HOT TEMPERATURES. - EXTREMELY LOW GAS MILEAGE, ALMOST 50% BELOW ADVERTISED MILEAGE. THESE COMPLAINTS APPEAR IN OTHER REPORTS AS WELL, SO THIS IS NOT ISOLATED. FORD IS DOING ITS BEST NOT TO ADDRESS ANY OF THESE ISSUES AND TELLING PEOPLE TO JUST DEAL WITH IT. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE STOPPED FORWARD MOTION WHEN THE CONTACT APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE. ALSO, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. ADDITIONALLY, THE KEY IS DIFFICULT TO TURN IN THE IGNITION. IN SPITE OF THE ONGOING PROBLEMS, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY THE DEALER.

CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DREW FORD DEALER...TRANSMISSION OVERHAULED. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED ON SEPTEMBER, 2005 WITH 6710 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AT THIS TIME WE WERE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON FREEWAY WITH CONSIDERABLE TRAFFIC TO NEGOTIATE TO THE ROADSIDE. CAR TOWED AGAIN TO DEALER. TRANSMISSION OVERHAULED AGAIN AFTER MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION WITH NEW ONE. WERE TOLD BY DREW FORD THAT IT WAS A DIFFERENT PART THAT FAILED THE SECOND TIME AND THAT IT WAS A RESULT OF FAULTY ASSEMBLY BY THE MANUFACTURER. WE HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS VEHICLE AND TREPIDATION THAT OUR SAFETY MAY BE JEOPARDIZED IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. *NM

TRANSMISSION FAILED. FORTUNATELY IT FAILED BEFORE THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN RELEASING THE TRAFFIC HEADED TOWARD THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IN WHATEVER GEAR IT WAS IN HOME. THE VEHICLE CEASED GOING INTO GEAR AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS 15 DAYS OLD AND HAD 1326 MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES ON IT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE CLUTCH IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. PARTS WERE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. CAR HAS BEEN IN DEALERSHIP FOR 16 DAYS. THE INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD KEPT FLASHING FROM N TO R, THE ENGINE REVVED BEFORE FINALLY SETTLING IN REVERSE. THE SECOND TIME THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE REVERSING, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IN WHICH THE FAILURE CODE READ P01702. A FACTORY ENGINEER INDICATED THAT THEY WERE CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THIS FAILURE, BUT NO REMEDY HAD BEEN FOUND.*AK
