THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE OFF, WHERE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED OUT OF THE ROADWAY AND RESTARTED AFTER WAITING FOR FIVE MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172,586.

THE GAS PEDAL WILL GET STUCK DOWN. THE VEHICLE WILL STALL. I WOULD HAVE TO USE MY FOOT TO TRY TO LIFT THE ACCELERATION PEDAL UP. SOMETIMES IT WOULD POP INTO PLACE QUICKLY WHILE OTHER TIMES, I HAD TO KEEP LIFTING IT UP WITH MY FOOT. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AND OTHER CARS WERE COMING FULL SPEED BEHIND ME, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK IN MOTION IN A SPEEDY MANNER. THIS HAS OCCURRED EARLY MORNING, MIDDAY, AND NIGHT. IT HAS BEEN ON THE CITY STREET AND THE HIGHWAY. I RESEARCHED AND SAW THAT FORD HAD A RECALL FOR 2001 - 2004 FOR THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE WHICH IS DUE TO THE STICKING ACCELERATION PEDAL. WHEN I WENT TO FORD, THEY SAID THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL NOR THE CONSUMER APPRECIATION FOR CERTAIN MODELS ALTHOUGH IT WAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THERE WERE MANY CARS THAT CAME IN WITH THIS ISSUE, BUT THE SALES WOMAN PRETENDED AS IF SHE NEVER HEARD OF THE ISSUE. I RECEIVED MY ESCAPE AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT TWO YEARS AGO. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE MY GAS PEDAL STOPS WORKING AND I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PRESS IT DOWN, IT WON'T GO. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE ON CITY STREETS AND ON INTERSTATES. ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL OVER OR OFF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK, TURN OFF THE ENGINE, RESTART MY CAR AND GET IT GOING AGAIN. I HAVE TRIED POUNDING ON THE GAS AND THAT DOES NOTHING, IT WON'T BUDGE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN, SO I CANNOT JUST EXPECT IT TO, IT HAPPENS, DAY OR NIGHT, HOT OR COLD TEMPERATURE, DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT HIGHWAY OR TURNING ON A CITY STREET. I AM AFRAID IT WILL HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING IN THE SNOW OR WHILE ONE OF MY KIDS ARE DRIVING IT. WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (APPX 55MPH) IN 5 O'CLOCK TRAFFIC IN RALEIGH, NC ON US 1 AND THE VEHICLE LOST SPEED. ALL EMERGENCY LIGHTS CAME ON. FORCED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND TOTALLY CUT OFF. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT IT KEPT CUTTING OFF. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND WAS STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER A CALL TO A FAMILY MEMBER AND TO AAA, THE CAR WAS TOWED HOME 3 HOURS LATER. THE NEXT DAY, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO CROSSROADS FORD IN CARY, NC. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE PCM, SPARK PLUGS AND IGNITION COILS ALL FAILED AT ONCE AND CHARGED ME $2700. ERROR CODES P0351, P0354 AND P0353 APPEARED ON THE DIAGNOSTICS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE NEXT DAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY UNDERGOES A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION AND COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. *TR

I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING SO I TOOK IT IN TO A TRANSMISSION AUTO SHOP WHERE THE FOUND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. WHICH IS VERY ODD FOR AN AUTO SHOP TO NOT FIND ANYTHING. ABOUT 1 WEEK AFTER THIS PROBLEM, THE SERVICE EMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE DAY THE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY, IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY I WAS CLOSE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. I GOT TO THE SIDE AND PUT MY CAR INTO PARK, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO ALLOW MY HEART RATE TO COME BACK DOWN TO A NORMAL PACE. I TURNED THE KEY AND THE ENGINE TURNED BACK ON. I DROVE IT INTO AN AUTO SHOP TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, AND THE READER SHOWED CYLINDER 2 MISFIRE. THE FIRST POSSIBLE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE COIL ON PLUG, WHICH IS WHAT I DID. I GOT HOME TODAY AND AM STILL EXPERIENCING THIS SCARY FEELING OF MY CAR NOT BEING ABLE TO EXCEL ABOVE 60. I READ MANY REVIEWS THIS EVENING AND SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED VERY SIMILAR ISSUES. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND PEOPLE ARE AT SERIOUS RISK OR GETTING INJURED AND/OR IN AN ACCIDENT. WHENEVER THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DIPS BELOW FREEZING, MY GAS PEDAL WILL SUDDENLY GET STUCK AND THE CAR COASTS TO A STOP AND WILL JUST SIT THERE IDLING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO "STOMP" ON THE PEDAL AND IT FREED UP, THAT IS NO LONGER THE CASE. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DIPS INTO THE 20'S IT IS EVEN WORSE AND WILL GET STUCK, EVENTUALLY FREE UP AND BE FINE....UNLESS I THEN ENTER HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT WILL DO IT AGAIN. I HAVE FOUND THAT WARMING THE CAR SEVERAL EXTRA MINUTES SEEMS TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM AT SLOWER 35MPH SPEEDS. HOWEVER, UPON ENTERING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, EVEN AFTER WARMING THE VEHICLE FOR TEN MINUTES, IT WILL GET STUCK AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF TRAVEL AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IT WILL FREE UP AFTER COASTING TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND SITTING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WITH CAR IDLING, BUT CAN THEN GET STUCK YET AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS CREATES EXTREMELY DEADLY SITUATIONS! AFTER TOTALING A 2004 ESCAPE, I PURCHASED ANOTHER 2005 ESCAPE BECAUSE I LOVED IT. WELL NOT SO MUCH ANYMORE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2012. ONLY THREE SHORT MONTHS LATER I STARTED HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I AM READING IN ALL COMPLAINTS. I TRIED TO PUSH ON THE GAS AND NOTHING. IT WAS MISFIRING BAD. I THEN TOOK IT TOO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME COILS 1, 3, AND 5 WERE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED CLOSE TOO $2,000 TO REPAIR IT. I WAS FURIOUS BECAUSE I HAD BOUGHT MY 2004 FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND MY FAMILY ALONE HAD PURCHASED A TOTAL OF 6 VEHICLES FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND WAS NOT GOING TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. SO THEY SPLIT THE COST OF $1000 WITH ME. NOW IT IS ACTING UP AGAIN AND I'VE REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND THE THERMOSTAT BC THAT'S WHAT THE COMPUTER SAID ONLY FOR IT TO STILL NOT BE RUNNING. I HAVE A RANDOM INCIDENT WITH MY FORD ESCAPE 2005, WHERE AT TIMES WHEN ON CRUISE CONTROL, THE ENGINE WILL ACCELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY. AFTER MANY YEARS OF DRIVING, AND ATTEMPTING TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH FORD BUT REFUSED AS IT WASN'T REPRODUCIBLE WHEN ALLOTTED, I THINK THIS ISSUE OCCURS BECAUSE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS SELF ADJUSTED ITSELF WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. BUT AFTER DETACHING THE TRAILER AND TAKING THE TRUCK FOR A LONG HILLY RIDE, THE ENGINE COMPUTER MAY THINK IT'S STILL TOWING A TRAILER AND STRONGLY ACCELERATE THE ENGINE WHEN GOING UPHILL WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. THIS IS ONLY BASED ON WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCE, AND INCLUDE NO COMPUTER LOG EXAMINATION. NOT THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN IF A POLICE CAR IS AROUND, AND BEING A SAFE DRIVER. WHILE DRIVING RECENTLY, ON THE HIGHWAY, HOURS AFTER BEGINNING MY TRIP, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK, FOR 2 OR 3 SECONDS, CAUSING ME GREAT CONCERN. NOW, EVERY MORNING I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 15 MINUTES FOR THE PEDAL TO FREE ITSELF IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IT STICKS OFF AND ON AT LEAST TWICE DURING THE WARM UP PERIOD. I DON'T HAVE EXACT DATES, BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE LAST FEW MONTHS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BEEN VERY FRIGHTENING WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC. FAULTY SPARK PLUGS WERE INSTALLED IN SOME 2005 ESCAPES. THE SPARK PLUGS EMIT A RADIO FREQUENCY THAT CAUSE THE COILS TO BASICALLY FRY YOUR COMPUTER. FORD HAS RELEASED A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS (TSB 09-2-6) BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AS DECELERATING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. CONTACTED FORD'S CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I WENT TO ACCELERATE. UPON REACHING 40. I HEARD A SUBSTANTIAL BACKFIRE NOISE, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD CAUSING ME TO BLOCK TRAFFIC AS I COASTED ALMOST INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER COASTING FOR 100+ FEET. AFTER WHICH, THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND RUGGED NEVER BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE ABOUT 30 MPH AND CAUSING MAJOR TRAFFIC PROBLEMS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP (VARSITY FORD IN ANN ARBOR, MI) AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE WAS IN TROUBLE. APPARENTLY, MY SPARK PLUG AFTER BEING CLOGGED, CAUSED A BACKFIRE WHICH BLEW MY IGNITION COILS AND SPARKPLUGS AND MY PCM. I AM BEING QUOTED $2,200. WHEN THE WEATHER GETS COLD, THE GAS PEDAL STICKS. THIS SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS COLD. YOU START OUT DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE PEDAL WON'T MOVE. YOU CAN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL. THE PEDAL IS STUCK. AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND THE CAR WARMS UP THE PEDAL USUALLY WILL START MOVING AGAIN. WE HAVE HAD MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN 2009, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE TRAFFIC BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, WHEN I DEPRESSED MY ACCELERATOR IT WAS LIKE PRESSING AGAINST A WALL. MY CAR WAS MOVING FROM THE NATURAL FORCE FROM WHEN I WAS BRAKED BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, I HAD TO STEER MY CAR TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP. WHEN I STOPPED I MADE A PHONE TO A FRIEND OF MINE TO TELL THEM TO COME AND GET ME BECAUSE MY CAR WASN'T WORKING. AS I WAS WAITING FOR THEM I DECIDED TO START MY CAR AND PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, WHEN I DID IT WORKED SO I WENT AHEAD AND DROVE HOME. THIS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 3 MORE TIMES THAT YEAR BUT ON THESE OCCASIONS ONCE I WOULD ATTEMPT TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR AS I WAS DRIVING IT WOULD THEN WORK. I MADE A NOTE TO GET IT FIXED BUT BY THIS TIME IT WAS THE SPRING AND IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN UNTIL WINTER 2011. I THIS POINT I HAD MY NEIGHBOR LOOK AT IT(WHO IS A MECHANIC) AND HE SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE CABLE, HE SPRAYED IT WITH SOME WD40 AND IT SEEMED TO WORK, WELL THAT WAS ONLY FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS, BECAUSE IT STUCK AGAIN ONE MORNING ON THE WAY TO WORK. AT THIS POINT I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TO GET THE THROTTLE CABLE FIXED. UNFORTUNATELY, AT THE TIME I TOOK IT IN I WASN'T ABLE TO "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM. I EXPLAINED THE SHOP THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOO FELT AS THOUGH IT MAY BE THE CABLE, I SPENT AROUND $300 FOR THE PART AND LABOR TO HAVE IT REPLACED. WELL THAT WAS NOVEMBER OF 2011 AND IT IS NOW FEB 2012 AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING. AS OTHER'S HAVE REPORTED I AM THANKFUL THAT AS I WAS MAKING THE LEFT TURN THAT IT WAS A PROTECTED LEFT, DUE TO THE LIGHT, BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN MY ACCELERATOR FAILED. THE FIRST ISSUE I HAD WITH MY CAR WAS IN DECEMBER OF 2010. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO A REPAIR PLACE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE COILS AND THE PLUGS WERE OUT AND THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ASSUMED THAT THIS WAS JUST TIME TO GET THIS REPAIRED BECAUSE MY CAR WAS RIGHT OVER THE 100,000 MILE MARK. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE UNTIL MAY OF 2011 WHEN THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THIS TIME I TOOK MY CAR TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER. THIS TIME I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WOULD RUN OK UP TO ABOUT 35 MPH AND THEN AFTER THAT SPEED IT WOULD START JERKING. IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS IT STOPS, BUT IF I LEAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. I HAVEN'T TAKEN MY CAR ANYWHERE THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE OVER 45MPH BUT RECENTLY I NOTICED THAT IF I TRY TO ACCELERATE PAST 35, THAT INSTEAD OF JERKING TO TURN MY CAR OFF, THE HARDER I PUSH THE GAS, IT FEELS LIKE I AM PUSHING THE BRAKE WITH THAT SAME INTENSITY WHEN I HAVEN'T EVEN TOUCHED THE BRAKE. IM AFRAID THAT WHILE PUSHING THE GAS, THE CAR IS GOING TO BRAKE AND THAT SOMEONE ELSE IS GOING TO SLAM INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR AND HURT MY 2 YR OLD SON IN HIS CARSEAT IN THE BACK. I BOUGHT MY ESCAPE IN JUNE 2004. AROUND/APPROXIMATELY 2006 MY GAS PEDAL STARTED TO STICK AS I WAS DRIVING FROM TIME TO TIME. I GOT STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION ONE MORNING AND COULDN'T GET THE PEDAL UNSTUCK. WHEN I FINALLY DID I DROVE THE CAR OVER THE CAPITOL FORD IN SAN JOSE, CA. AND TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING. WHEN FORD TEST DROVE THE CAR, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I TOLD THEM SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE GAS PEDAL AND I WAS NOT DRIVING IT OFF THE LOT UNTIL THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH THE GAS PEDAL. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED AND SAID THE PEDAL WAS STICKING AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. FORD COVERED BECAUSE I WAS UNDER WARRANTY. ON 12/6/2011, MY PEDAL STARTED TO STICK AGAIN THIS TIME I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. STUCK 4 TIMES. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME FORD AND TOLD THEM MY PEDAL WAS GETTING STUCK I HAD THIS PROBLEM IN 2006 AND THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING AND THEY NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I GOT THE SONG AND DANCE OF HOW THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE AND I COULD PAY TO GET IT FIXED. AFTER INSPECTING FORD SAID THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AGAIN. AFTER STATING MY CASE WITH THEM THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING THEY GOT FORD INVOLVED TO SEE IT THEY WOULD COVER. FORD CAME BACK AND SAID NO. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. AGAIN I EXPLAINED THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND PEOPLE COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. ACCELERATOR PEDAL FREEZING UP WHILE DRIVING OR A STOP SIGN/TRAFFIC LIGHT. ENGINE IS 2.3L, 4 CYLINDER WITH A 3-SPEED AUTOMATIC WITH OVERDRIVE, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, CRUISE CONTROL, POWER STEERING AND A/C. THE TEMPERATURE WAS SIX DEGREES AND IT WAS SNOWING WITH FIVE INCHES ON THE GROUND. STARTED CAR AND THE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVED, AFTER 15 MINUTES OF WARMING IT UP, IT BEGAN TO WORK, BUT KEPT STICKING. GOT TO A STOP SIGN AND WENT TO HIT PEDAL TO GO; NOTHING, I JUST COASTED INTO THE INTERSECTION WITH CARS APPROACHING BOTH WAYS. FINALLY, I LET GO AND WENT. IT DID THE SAME THING AT TWO LIGHTS ON THE WAY HOME. ON THE WAY HOME, WHICH IS 10 MILES FROM WORK, THE PEDAL KEPT FREEZING UP EVERY TIME I GAVE IT GAS. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 65 MPH AND THE ROAD WAS CLEAR AT THE TIME. GOT HOME AND PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO THE GARAGE WHERE I KEEP IT WHEN NOT BEING USED AND TURNED THE HEAT ON AND STARTED TO WORK ON IT. I CLEANED THE SPEED CONTROL CABLE AND ACCELERATOR AT THE THROTTLE BODY CONNECTION POINT. DISCONNECTED BOTH AND CHECKED THE THROTTLE BODY AND HOOKED IT BACK UP. I PUT WD-40 ON THE CABLE AND IT STARTED TO WORK LIKE NEW. I PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND PULLED IT OUTSIDE TO GET COLD AGAIN. THE NEXT MORNING, I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE PEDAL WAS FROZEN AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WAS WORSE THAN BEFORE. AFTER 5 MINUTES IT STARTED TO WORK SOME, I PUT THE VEHICLE BACK IN THE GARAGE. I ARRIVED HOME THE NEXT MORNING, AND IT WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND ALL WAS OK. THIS TIME I WENT UNDER THE DASH AND SPRAYED SOME DW-40 ON THE PEDAL BRACKET ASSEMBLY. THEY TOOK MY NAME AND SOME OTHER BASIC INFORMATION, THEN SPENT MOST OF THE TIME TRYING TO GET ME OFF OF THE PHONE. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA WAS HAVING, WITH THE ONLY TWO DIFFERENCES BEING THE CAR DECELERATES AS OPPOSED TO ACCELERATES AND THAT NO ONE HAS BEEN KILLED YET. I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE (4WD), NOT THE HYBRID. I HAVE APPROX. 63,000 MI ON IT NOW. THREE TIMES SINCE I'VE OWNED IT THE CAR HAS SUDDENLY STARTED ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN. THE LAST TIME WAS APPROX. THE DATE BELOW, AND THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME I WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. ONE TIME I WAS IN TOWN AND LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANYONE CLOSE IN FRONT OF ME. FORD ESCAPE 2005 V6 2WD LIMITED. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE THEFT LIGHT IS FLASHING. THIS GENERATES AN ERROR CODE. THE CONDITION IS KNOWN TO FORD. THEY SAY IT IS RELATED TO A POSSIBLE ISSUE WITH A SPARK PLUG CAUSING INTERFERENCE WITH THE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CHIP IN THE IGNITION KEY AND THE RECEIVING UNIT. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN 4 TIMES IN ONE 300 MILE DRIVE. AFTER HAVING THE ERROR CODE CLEARED THE PROBLEM HAS NOT REPEATED. I BELIEVE IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON A BUSY FREEWAY LIVES COULD BE LOST. ON 9-9-08 I WAS IN A FRONT END COLLISION, APPROXIMATELY 40MPH, AIRBAG DID DEPLOY, HOWEVER THE POWDER THAT CAME OUT WITH THE AIRBAG MADE MY FACE AND EYES BURN. MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE 4CYL. SUSTAINED MINIMAL DAMAGE ($5000.00). IT TOOK 3 WEEKS TO FIX, WHICH WAS NO BIG DEAL. YESTERDAY, 10-4-08, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, MY ESCAPE WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL I TURNED AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE TO GET UP TO SPEED (40MPH), MY ESCAPE TOOK THE PEDAL FROM MY FOOT AND LOCKED IT TO THE FLOOR, I HAVE BEEN ASKED BY SEVERAL PEOPLE IF I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE CRUISE, AND ALL I REPLY WITH IS "IT DOESN'T HAVE CRUISE!" AS MY CAR STARTED TO SPEED UP I TRIED TO STOP, MY BRAKES WOULD ONLY KICK BACK OUT AT ME AND SINCE I WAS JUST IN A WRECK I WAS A LITTLE SCARED. I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND DROVE IN CIRCLES UNTIL I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO STOP IT. I AM CERTAIN THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM MAINLY BECAUSE I HAVE READ ALL OF THE POSTINGS FOR THIS CAR AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS IN THIS AREA. THE PROBLEM WAS EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED WITHOUT REPAIR. THE SERVICE REP SAID THEY HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE FOR A TEST DRIVE AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. WHEN I GOT HOME I READ THE INVOICE IN DETAIL AND FOUND A NOTATION FROM THE MECHANIC THAT STATED THE SWITCH NEEDED REPLACED. I VISITED THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE PARENT DEALERSHIP, GALPIN FORD OF PRESCOTT, AZ AND INDICATED MY DISPLEASURE WITH A DANGEROUS PROBLEM NOT BEING CORRECTED. HE STATED THE DEFECT HAD NOT BEEN RECALLED YET BUT PROMISED IF IT DID GET RECALLED IN THE FUTURE, THEY WOULD REIMBURSE THE COST OF THE REPAIR.
