The ford escape is experiencing the exact power steering assist fault, same year model in Safety Recall 14S05, but it’s not showing up for the recall.
As many other Ford escapes have been recalled due to power steering issues. Mine has been going out while driving and causing a very dangerous safety issue. Ive contacted my local ford dealership and noticed my 2009 ford escape is not on the recall list. Im requesting a change to this as my vehicle is a real safety issue for not just myself but for others. No warning lights appear whenever it goes out either.
I was driving to work when all the sudden out of nowhere with no warning I lost all power steering control luckily I just got off the highway and wasn’t going too terribly fast though it scared the crap outta me and this could have ended very badly! I was unable to turn my wheel at all!!! On my dashboard it says POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT after researching this I came across a recall for 2008-2014 Ford Escapes for what exactly happened to me on my
Vehicle Will not shift from Park gear. Locking up and can't drive until it allows me to shift. Time varies and also have to start and restart the engine several times before it allows the shifter lock to release from Park.
At 200,000 miles I'm beginning to have problems withe electric power steering along with suspension issues as well. i start my vehicle drive for a bit could be turning or coming to a brake an steering gives out cause me to work to turn it
The electronic steering on our 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid stopped working. We responded to the 14S05 recall. Our dealer reprogrammed the system and that seemed to work, however the problem is not with the program, the issue as shared with us by the Ford dealer is with The torque sensor or the electronic steering switches that are affixed to the steering column. The repair per the dealer is to replace the steering column. The software was not the issue, the Ford components are the issue. The recall letter states that "...the dealer may need to replace the torque sensor or the steering column. This service will be performed free of charge (parts and labor). But now Ford will not authorize the repair since the it was 'fixed' previously with software. A correction that ultimately failed. Ford's customer service is unwilling to acknowledge this reoccurring issue as shown by the complaints here. From Ford's perspective they believe the dealer is at fault for not undertakign the proper correction, when the dealer was first advised to address the problem with software. I.e. the cheaper solution. Ford has a know component failure issue that it is refusing to address.
Electric power steering assist just stopped and car was stuck. I couldn’t move. Very scary I could went over the hill and crashed. I cannot find the receipt it was a used electric power steering column. I am afraid to drive car now because it’s used. Ryder auto specialist should have a copy. Power steering just stopped working
Ford Motor Company "Ford" is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering "EPS" assist. Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module "PSCM" and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the PSCM when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S05.
First steering column locked with less then 65,000 miles . Now power train wrench light warning popped on less then 80,000 miles . Throttle body issue forcing car into limp mode leaving driver in danger on the road
I recently purchased this vehicle, have had it for about 3 to 4 weeks. The vehicle belonged to a gentleman whom deceased and vehicle came from Canada. The vehicle was running great and I was happy, however, on Easter 2022 my 1yr old daughter and I were leaving the emergency room due to us both being very ill and all of a sudden I was unable to steer the vehicle without having to use my entire body and all my strength. So, I immediately went to the auto part store and purchased steering fluid. Well, come to find out this vehicle has an electric steering system which I never heard of before in my life. Thankfully there was a mechanic on site and he told me about this along with changing a steering fuse??? The new fuse did not fix the issue. This nice man looked up and seen this vehicle has a steering, air bag and few more recalls out there. So, I called a ford dealership to inquire about getting these recalls taken care of and replaced, she basically told me that they would charge me for the diagnostic test and charge me for any and all recall repairs. I seen that this vehicle has never had any of the recalls taken care of. Now, is there a time frame for replacing recalls, especially if safety related!? I brought my 2009 Escape in for a steering recall. When Hopkins Ford checked for codes, they said there were none. They then performed a reset on the electric steering. After they performed the reset, my steering went out. I brought it back to have it checked again then they said now there is a code. They are now claiming they are not responsible for the code repair (Steering column) because in their eyes, they reset the recall. I have been in contact with Ford customer service and they said there is nothing they can do because they closed the case when they reprogrammed the recall. There were no issues prior, or codes prior to them reprogramming the steering. They now are trying to tell me it will cost me $1700 to repair an issue that is part of a recall.

THERE IS A SYSTEMATIC FAILURES OF BRAKING SYSTEM ON THIS MODEL, MASTER CYLENDER, BOOSTER, ABS PUMP, ETC. IT'S A BADLY DESIGNED BRAKING SYSTEM THAT FAILS AT ANY TIME, PUTTING LIVES OF PEOPLE UNDER DANGEROUS CONDITIONS. MORE OFTEN THEN NOT THOSE FAILURES ARE OCCURRING AT LOW SPEEDS. BRAKE FAILURE IS MOST COMMON PROBLEM ON FORD ESCAPE CARS THAT LOOKS LIKE OCCURRING MUCH MORE OFTEN THEN EVEN ON REST OF FORD VEHICLES.

HAVING PROBLEMS WITH WHOLE IGNITION HOUSING UNIT IT WAS STATIONARY AND WON'T START JUST SOMETIMES
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING TORQUE AND I DID PURCHASE THE VEHICLE UNTIL 2016. I AM NOW HAVING STEERING ISSUE WHERE MY STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP. ITHIS IS MY 2ND TIME ISSUE AN COMPLAINT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER 6 MONTHS AND HAS GOTTEN WORST. I SPOKE WITH FORD THIS WEEK AND WAS ADVISE THEY COULD NOT HELP BECAUSE THE RECALL DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE. I WIIL HAVE TO GET IT FIX MYSELF AND FILE A CLAIM WITH CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY FORD DEALERSHIP FREE OF CHARGE. I SEE THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE. WHY WAS THIS VEHICLE NOT FIXED IN THE RECALL. I BOUGHT MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE NEW. THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAS COMPLETELY WENT OUT. BEFORE IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT THE STIRRING WOULD WORK, AND THEN IT WOULD STOP WORKING UNTIL ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST AND I WAS TOLD AROUND $1400 AND AT THIS TIME I CAN'T AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. SO THEN I STARTED RESEARCHING WITH MY VIN NUMBER. MY VEHICLE WAS ASSEMBLED AT THE KANSAS CITY PLANT. AND I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL HELPFUL PEOPLE BUT I HAVE NOT HAD ANYONE ACTUALLY INVESTIGATE THIS. I'M ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT ONLY IN EMERGENCIES. BECAUSE IT WILL TURN JUST NOT EASILY AS IT SHOULD. THANK YOU. I AM ALMOST POSITIVE IT'S THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. STEERING HAS TENSION WITHOUT WARNING HAVE TO STOP KILL THE CAR WAIT. RESTART. TO RESET...ANY SUDDEN TURNS ARE A SAFETY HAZARD.!!!!!!!! THERE SHOULD. NOT BE AN EXPIRATION ON SUCH AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND CAME TO A STOP, MY CAR DIED. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW ALONG WITH A NEW DEVELOPMENT OF MY STEERING COLUMN SHAKING. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO START IT BACK UP AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK OVER DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN IT STARTED. I WAS ON A BUSY ROAD TRYING TO TURN LEFT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SAID FAILURE. DROVE TO WORK ABOUT 10 MORE MILES WITH NO POWER STEERING IN A BUSY TOWN, NOT FUN. THE LOW TIRE SENSOR IS ON AS WELL, I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND NOTHING IS WRONG WITH TIRES, THEY ARE AT THE PROPER AMOUNT OF PSI. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I AM GLAD I DID NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE DONE TO YOU WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD MY BATTERY AND CYLINOID AND STARTER CHECKED AND THEY ARE FINE, BUT MY CAR REPEATEDLY DIES AT A STOP SIGN, AND WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN OR EVEN WHEN I AM TRYING TO PULL INTO A DRIVEWAY. THESE TWO THINGS NEED TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. I DON'T FEEL AS IF I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE THINGS SINCE THEY ARE ELECTRICAL AND SHOULD BE PUT ON THE RECALL LIST. I BOUGHT THIS CAR LAST YEAR IN HOPES OF NOT HAVING TO PUT ALOT OF MONEY INTO IT AND TO HAVE FOR A WHILE. WHEN IT DOES ALL THE DIALS WOULD GO BACK INTO SYNC . THE BAD PART IS IF YOU ARE NOT NOTICING YOUR DASH AND PARK AND TURN OFF THE CAR IT WOULDN'T CRANK BACK UP. MY TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR IS ON I HAD IT CHECKED AND NO ONE AND FIND OUT WHICH SENSOR IT IS. MY OIL CHANGE LIGHT WANT GO OUT EVEN AFTER MANY OIL CHANGES. THE COMPANY THAT DOES MY OIL CHANGE ARE NOT ABLE TO RESET. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. UNTIL LAST NIGHT WHEN THE POWER ASSIST FAILURE POPPED UP. I GAVE MY VIN NUMBER AND THEY SAID MY CAR WAS NOT FROM THE LOT THAT WAS FOR THE RECALL BUT HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE FOR THE SAME YEAR MAKE UP MY CAR.
MY VEHICLE IS COMING ALIVE AT NIGHT WITH HEADLIGHTS AND RADIO COMING ON THAT I HAVEN'T BE ABLE TO PARK IT IN MY GARAGE AS O FEEL LIKE IT MAY END UP CATCHING FIRE. WHILE DRIVING IT WILL SHUT DOWN THE TURN SIGNALS, BREAK LIGHTS, AND CLIMATE CONTROLS AND SHUT OFF THE RADIO. I'VE NARROWLY AVOIDED MANY COLLISIONS DUE TO HAVING NO TURN SIGNALS AND BREAK LIGHTS AT NIGHT AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY. I'VE TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS OF THE MODEL YEARS IN QUESTION AND ALL SEEM TO SHARE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES SOME ENDING IN ACCIDENTS AND OTHERS PAYING THOUSANDS OUT OF POCKET FOR FAULTY PCM'S OR ELECTRICAL WIRING TO THE IGNITION. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHEN DRIVING OR WHEN THE CAR IS OFF AND IN PARK I FEEL AS IF THIS IS AN ISSUE FORD IS AWARE OF AS I'VE TALKED TO ALMOST 1,000 PEOPLE ALL SHARING SIMILAR ISSUES AND UPON TAKING THEM TO THE DEALER IT'S COSTED $500-$2,000 DEPENDING WHAT THE DEALERS CAME UP WITH SOME BEING THE PCM OTHERS BEING THE WIRING TO THE IGNITION, SOME BEING A BAD FUSE BOX AND THE DEALERS JUST THROW PARTS AT IT TO JUST HAVE THE ISSUE COME BACK 6 MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD AND THEN TRY TO SAY NOW IT'S SOMETHING ELSE AND IT'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER $500-$2,000 IN PARTS OR TRY AND PUSH THE OWNER TO A NEW VEHICLE. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND HE SAID THEY AREN'T EQUIPPED TO DO THIS KIND OF WORK THAT I'LL NEED TO GO TO A HUB DEALERSHIP AND IT WOULD BE ABOUT $400 JUST TO DIAGNOSE WITH HAVING TO PULL THE DASH, STEERING COLUMN AND CHECK THE PCM. THEN IT'D BE PARTS AND LABOR TO FIX THE ISSUE IF THE FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT I WOULDN'T BE NOTIFIED TILL AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED.

THE STEERING WHEEL WILL ACTUALLY SNAP BACK WHILE HOLDING IT STEERING. THE AIR CONDITIONER FAILS TO WORK WHEN THIS HAPPENS AS WELL. THIS HAS PERIODICALLY BEEN HAPPENING EVEN THOUGH THE DATE LISTED IS TODAY. FORD WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED MY VEHICLE WASN'T MANUFACTURED AT THE SPECIFIC PLANT SO IT SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES (EVEN THOUGH IT'S EXPERIENCING THE EXACT ISSUES AS THE RECALL) AND RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND PAY $1500+ OUT OF POCKET TO CORRECT THE ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SHEEHY FORD LINCOLN OF RICHMOND LOCATED AT (10601 MIDLOTHIAN TURNPIKE, RICHMOND, VA 23235), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN 2014. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,687.

I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, TURNING LEFT WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN. I BARELY GOT MYSELF TO A SAFE PLACE TO PARK MY CAR AND WAS LUCKY TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP/ REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY HAD TO FIX THE STEERING COLUMN TOO. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2008-20011 FORD ESCAPES FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE!! HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED FORD TO SET THINGS RIGHT THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL. THE PREVIOUS OWNER GOT A SOFTWARE UPDATE THOUGH THIS WAS ONLY 1 OF 3 FIXES THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE DONE. FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE UNSAFE CARS ON THE ROAD AND YET THEY TELL THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR THEIR IMPROPER AND FAULTY PRODUCT. I DON'T SEE WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED; AN ISSUE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR. FORD IS CHOOSING TO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND THOSE ON THE ROAD. HOW CAN YOU GET AROUND NOT FIXING YOUR RECALL? HOW IS THAT LEGAL?

HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER/THROTTLE RESPONSE. PULL OFF ROAD, PUT VEHICLE IN PARK, RESTART AND COMPUTER SEEMS TO RESET. HAD BEEN 1-2 TIMES PER YEAR OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND STRUGGLED TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. HAPPENED 8 TIMES IN 150 MILE TRIP TODAY.

BOUGHT MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE XLT 4WD IN 2016.HAD NO PROBLEMS UP UNTIL AROUND MARCH, 2017 WHEN TRYING TO START VEHICLE.TURNED THE KEY TO START AND IT WOULDN'T. THINKING MAYBE THERE WAS A LITTLE MOISTURE ON IGNITION KEY SEEING HOW IT HAD RAINED EARLER AND KEYS WERE EXPOSED BUT NOPE.PULLED KEY OUT AND FLIPPED IT OVER THEN RETRIED. IT DID START AND DIDN'T THINK ANYMORE ABOUT IT. DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN TILL ABOUT 4 MOS LATER AND HAS GRADUALLY GOTTEN WORSE OVER TIME. NOW HAVE TO MAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS...UP TO 5-6 TIMES OTHER DAY BEFORE IT STARTED. JUST BY CHANCE I HAD PUSHED THE IGNITION KEY FURTHER IN THE START POSITION AND FELT KEY SLIP INTO IGNITION A "HAIR" MORE. IT STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY. THOUGHT THAT MAYBE ORIGINAL KEY WAS GETTING WORN AND THAT WAS WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT AFTER READING MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT EXACT SAME ISSUE IT SHOWS THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS. I HAVE TO TRAVEL ALONE WHEN OUT OF STATE FOR DR VISITS OR FAMILY MATTERS. WOULD SAY THIS CAN BECOME A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY FOR A FAMILY.

STEERING HAS COMPLETELY FROZEN DURING OPERATION MAKING CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. I'M ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. THESE PROBLEMS ARE VERY IRRESPONSIBLE ON FORDS BEHALF. ON A STRAIGHT ROAD TRAVELING ABOUT 25-30 MPH. NEXT I HAD A LEFT TURN COMING AND MY STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO TURN, AND ALMOST RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. TO SAY I'M PETRIFIED OF MY VEHICLE AT THIS POINT IS A GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN HER ESCAPE JUST KEPT SHUTTING DOWN TO THE POINT SHE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED AT 65-70MPH. SHE CALLED THE FORD HOTLINE AND THEY TOLD HER THAT THE RECALL ON HER VEHICLE WAS CLOSED BUT IF THE STEERING WENT OUT, THAT IT WAS COVERED BY THE RECALL. SHE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT FORD TOLD HER TOO AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPAIR IT. SHE LEFT THE VEHICLE OVER NIGHT TO BE FIXED BUT THE NEXT DAY THEY TOLD HER THAT IT WASN'T A RECALL AND THAT SHE HAD TO PAY $89 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT SHE DIDN'T KNOW SHE HAD TO PAY. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD MY VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALLS FOR P2112. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03, I WAS TOLD MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. TO MY SURPRISE, THE CAR STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL AUTO SHOP TO HAVE THE COMPUTER CHECKED TO SEE IF THE ERROR WAS STILL IN THE SYSTEM, BUT IT WAS ALREADY CLEARED. TWO WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM A VACATION WEEKEND, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING, EXCEPT THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, THREE HOURS FROM HOME WITH MY SON IN THE BACK SEAT. TO SAY I WAS RATTLED WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, TURN THE CAR OFF, RESTART THE CAR AND REJOIN TRAFFIC. ROUGHLY 1 HOUR LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED THE CAR OFF FOR INSPECTION AND SERVICE. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO PINPOINT THE ISSUE TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY, AND DETERMINED IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $375 AND 24 HOURS LATER THE CAR WAS FIXED. NO ISSUES AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK IN MY POSSESSION FOR TWO WEEKS. I WANTED TO ISSUE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT, AND EXPRESS MY DISSATISFACTION WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR KNOWING ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, AND DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON ISSUANCE OF A RECALL. TODAY I WAS CONTACTED AND TOLD THE PART WAS ON NATION WIDE BACKORDER, AND WASN'T EXPECTED UNTIL 10/31. INTERNET FORUMS SUGGEST THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES AWAITING THIS PART RIGHT NOW. HAVING THE ENGINE UNPREDICTABLY SHUT OFF IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO HAVE WHILE DRIVING. ON MONDAY, JULY 8 AT 8:45 AM I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE FROM MY HOME TO MY OFFICE...A DISTANCE OF 17.3 MILES. I HAD COMPLETED APPROXIMATELY 14 OF THOSE MILES, TRAVELING ON A FOUR LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND ON CRUISE CONTROL. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR SHUT DOWN. THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO RUN AT SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED POWER...ENOUGH TO POWER THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM...BUT NOT THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STEER OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND ACCESS THE SITUATION. THIS FAILURE HAD NEVER OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY WITH THIS VEHICLE. A WRENCH LIGHT WAS NOW APPEARING ON THE CONTROL PANEL AND THE CAR WAS BARELY RUNNING. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT IT DOWN. THEN I TURNED THE KEY AND IT RESTARTED AND SEEMED TO RUN FINE. I CONTINUED THE JOURNEY HOPING IT WAS A ONE-TIME GLITCH. THAT SAME AFTERNOON AT APPROXIMATELY 4 PM, I STARTED MY RETURN TRIP HOME. WITHIN THE FIRST MILE, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, THE SAME SHUTDOWN OCCURRED. THIS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES AS I MADE MY WAY HOME. THE APPROXIMATE SPEED FOR EACH SHUTDOWN WAS AS FOLLOWS: #1 - 15 MPH, #2 - 50 MPH, #3 - 55 MPH, #4 - 15 MPH. THAT NIGHT, HAVING READ, ON THE INTERNET, ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE "THROTTLE BODY CONTROL" PART WITH FORD ESCAPES AND HAVE NOTED YOUR CASE # PE13-003, I DECIDED I WOULD PRESENT THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIR AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THAT WAS, IN FACT, THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS REPAIRED ON JULY 9, 2013 BY TOM MASANO AUTO GROUP, 1600 LANCASTER AVE., READING PA 19607 AT A COST OF $378.05. THIS FAILURE PRESENTS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THERE IS NO WAY OF PREDICTING WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. WE BOUGHT THE SUV USED AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN. JUNE 2010,AND IN OCTOBER WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD IT FOR 10 DAYS AND COULDN'T. FIND A PROBLEM. WE DROVE IT FOR APPROXIMATELY 7 MONTHS, 14,000 MILES THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ...WE HAD IT TOWED TO ANOTHER GARAGE, AND THEY HAD IT A COUPLE OF DAYS WITH NO PROBLEMS FOUND.IN JUNE 2012 IT WOULDN'T. WAITED 30 MINUTES UNHOOKED THE BATTERY CABLES WAITED 15 MINUTES AND HOOKED THEM BACK UP,,AND IT STARTED AND RAN FINE FOR A FEW DAYS THEN STARTED DYING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RESPONDED AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR A SHORT WHILE BEFORE IT FAILED AGAIN. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I REPEATED THIS CYCLE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE CODES INDICATED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ADVISED THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND WON'T BE AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS, WHICH MEANS I WON'T BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR (THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL DUE TO BACKORDERED PARTS). I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT THIS PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER WITH NO DELIVERY DATE IN SIGHT. FORD HAS BEEN GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND SINCE LAST WEEK REGARDING THE PART AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ADVISED BY A FORD SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE CAR IS STILL "DRIVABLE," HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. HE TOLD US WHEN IT DOES, TO SIMPLY TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT SHOULD RUN FINE FOR A SHORT TIME. FIRST THE TIMING COVER LEAKS AT 22, 761, THEN A PULLEY FALLS OFF THE ENGINE AT 40,149 SPRAYING OIL ALL OVER MY INTERIOR VIA THE A/C. AFTER THE PULLEY WAS REPLACED THE CAR WOULD IDLE HIGH AND THEN STARTED JERKING AS IF IT WANTED TO STALL, TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CODES, FINALLY HAD THE TECH DRIVE WITH ME AND HE FELT THE JERKING. AFTER THREE VISITS FOR THIS, IN NOVEMBER 2012 AT 50,000 I WAS AM TOLD THE COIL PACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, NOW AT 55, 063 MILES I AM TOLD IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? I THINK I WAS SOLD A LEMON AND IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA THAT'S ILLEGAL. WHAT IF I AM REAR ENDED DUE TO THE HORRIBLE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF YOUR PRODUCT?

SINCE THE THROTTLE IS CONSIDERED AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THE BILL WAS APPROXIMATELY $670. I CONTACTED FORD SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD LOOK AT IT, BUT IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER,THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT INDICATE A POWER TRAIN ISSUE, I WAS TOLD IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE AND IT TRULY LOOKS LIKE A DEFECTIVE PART. AS A PRECAUTION, HE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BLADE WITH A CLEANING WIPE. A WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING, I THEN NEEDED TO KEEP MY FOOT ON BOTH THE GAS AND BRAKE WHILE AT STOPS. RETURN TO MY TECHNICIAN AND HE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. I TURNED OFF AIR CONDITIONING, UNPLUGGED IPHONE, MUSIC, AND LIGHTS. I RESTARTED CAR. CAR IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED WITH NO WARNING LIGHT. WITH CAR IN PARK, TESTED ACCELERATION, NO HESITATION WITH RPMS. I TURNED OFF CAR AND WAITED 5 MINUTES. I TURNED CAR BACK ON, AGAIN NO WRENCH LIGHT, NO HESITATION WITH RPM/GAS PEDAL TESTED. I TURNED OFF HAZARDS AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE. NO FURTHER PROBLEM DRIVING THAT NIGHT OR THE NEXT DAY. ON MONDAY I TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. I WAS CALLED AND TOLD THAT BATTERY NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I EXPLAINED I WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO LOSS OF AUXILIARY POWER, RATHER ENGINE POWER. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE BATTERY AT MY AGREEMENT AND CONTINUE TESTING. I WAS CALLED LATER IN DAY AN NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. WHILE WAITING FOR CALL FROM DEALER, I "GOOGLED" FORD ESCAPE 2009 WRENCH LIGHT. 2009 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE DIED WHILE DRIVING *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY CODES AND THE VEHICLE PASSED ALL THEIR TESTS. THE DEALER DID FIX A TRANSMISSION LEAK AND AN AIR SENSOR. ON 7/17/2011 WHILE DRIVING FROM EDEN PRAIRIE, MN TO HOME IN HASTINGS, MN WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL I, ALONG WITH MY WIFE AND GRANDDAUGHTER, SMELLED A ODOR LIKE BURNING PLASTIC. I PULLED INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND WE GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND I INVESTIGATED THE ODOR. I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE ODOR WAS ORIGINATING FROM THE DASH PANEL. WITHOUT DISMANTLING ANYTHING I WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE ODOR, WHICH BY THIS TIME WAS DISSIPATING. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE RESULTED IN NO RE-OCCURRENCE OF THE ODOR AND WE CONTINUED TOWARDS HOME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BATTERY IN HER VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING SHE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR LIFTGATE ON THE VEHICLE. SHE WAS ALSO UNABLE TO GAIN ACCESS FROM THE FLOOR BOARD IN THE REAR SEAT. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000.

GOT HOME AT 4PM, PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AND TURNED IT OFF. WALKED INSIDE AND WENT TO DINNER AT MY IN LAWS. ABOUT 3AM MY WIFE WOKE UP TO ONE OF OUR BABIES CRYING. SHE WENT DOWN TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. AS SHE WAS WALKING THROUGH OUR KITCHEN SHE SMELLED SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT RIGHT. SHE WOKE ME UP AND WE ALL LEFT THE HOUSE AND WENT TO HER PARENTS HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET. WE CALLED THE GAS COMPANY AND THEY CAME TO SEARCH THE HOUSE. THE COULD NOT FIND A GAS LEAK, SO THE GUY FROM THE GAS COMPANY ASKED TO LOOK IN THE GARAGE. WHEN WE OPENED THE GARAGE IT FELT LIKE 100 DEGREES. WE LOOKED IN BOTH CARS AND THERE WERE NO KEYS IN THE IGNITION. WE POPPED THE HOODS ON THE CARS ON OUR ESCAPE YOU COULD BARELY TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BECAUSE IT WAS HOT. ON OUR OTHER CAR YOU COULD TOUCH EVERYTHING. WE TRIED TO BACK THE ESCAPE OUT OF THE GARAGE UNTIL WE COULD GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY BUT WERE UNABLE TO. THE NEXT MORNING WE ENDED UP CALLING TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER SHIP. THEY CHECKED THE WIRING UNDER THE BATTERY BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD COMPLAINTS OF THE STARTER SPINNING BUT NEVER STARTING. SINCE THEN THEY AS WELL AS FORD HAVE SAID WE HAVE MADE THIS UP AND ARE UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE SITUATION BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER HERD OF SUCH OF A THING. SINCE WE ARE THE FIRST THEY DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO DO ANYTHING TILL SOMEONE GETS HURT OR DIES. *TR
