I change my brakes twice in not even a full month My alternator belt came off I replaced it when I put it in park it rolls it shakes and it takes a minute to go faster once I go 40 mph the acceleration pedal vibrates tire pressure sensor stays on and also it keep saying check fuel tank injector

3/28/2021 MILEAGE 138141, 1 DAY AFTER FILLING TANK NOTICED STRONG ORDER OF GASOLINE COMING FROM UNDER CAR AND GASOLINE LEAKING OUT OF TOP OF TANK WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. TRACKED SOURCE OF LEAK TO A 1 INCH CRACK IN TOP OF TANK ABOUT 2 INCHES FORWARD AND TO THE LEFT OF THE FUEL PUMP WHERE THE TANK HEIGHT CHANGES AND GETS TALLER, APPEARS TO BE STRESS CRACK. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR CODES PRESENT. THIS YEAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A STEEL TANK NOT PLASTIC. REPLACEMENT TANK DISCONTINUED BY FORD, SOURCED AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT.

YELLOW SERVICE RANCH APPEARED ON DASH HAD TO PULL OVER AND PUT CAR IN PARK, I DON'T WAS VERY ROUGH TURN ENGINE OFF. AFTER STARTING CAR BACK UP ALL LIGHTS WERE GONE, ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THIS HAS NOW OCCURRED MORE THAN 20 TIMES. WE HAVE REPLACED BOTH OXYGEN SENSORS,THE PURGE CANISTER AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON LARGE HIGHWAYS OR A MULTILANE INTERSTATE IT BECOMES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN IDLING, EVEN IF ONLY FOR SECONDS AND SURGES FORWARD RANDOMLY WHILE TRAVELING ON THE ROADWAY. IT HAS STALLED ON ME UP TO 8-10 TIMES IN ONE TRIP FROM SCOTTSDALE TO PHOENIX. IT WILL STALL ROLLING TO A STOP AS WELL AND HAS STALLED ON BUSY ROADWAYS AND IN INTERSECTIONS, PUTTING ME IN GREAT DANGER. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED T HUNDREDS OF OTHER DRIVERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AND SO FAR NO MECHANIC OR EVEN THE FORD DEALERSHIP CAN PIN POINT THE CAUSE. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR CARS WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES AND OTHERS HAVE REPRTED THAT THE CAR STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I AM NOW AFRAID IT WILL ESCALATE.

VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY STALL AS SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON. FUEL PUMP REPLACED TWICE IN 2 DAYS. MECHANICS FIND NO CODES STORED. THROTTLE BODY REPLACED UNDER FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM. IT REOCCURRED THE NEXT DAY. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED. THE VEHICLE WILL SLOW AND STALL SUDDENLY AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE.

I MOVED THE VEHICLE TO THE DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED A WET SPOT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR THAT REEKED OF GAS. THE SPOT CORRESPONDS TO THE AREA BELOW THE GAS TANK FILLER. I'M CONCERNED THE LEAKING GAS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD AND ALSO CONCERNED THE LEAKING GAS MAY IGNITE CAUSING A FIRE AND POSSIBLE EXPLOSION. HELP!!!

ONCE TURNED OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN IT WORKS LIKE NORMAL UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. IT CAN HAPPEN AT TAKE OFF OR WHILE ON THE FREEWAY GOING WITH THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC ALL OF A SUDDEN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LEAKING FUEL SINCE FEB. 2016 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I'VE REPLACED THE EVAP. CANISTER DUE TO THE LEAK, THE SEAL WITH IT AS WELL, AND THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE. ALL THIS WORK WAS DONE AT 2 DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS. I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL AND WROTE TO FORD WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD FIX IT GRATIS. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE GASKET GOING INTO THE TANK AND THAT "SHOULD" TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T. GAS FUMES STILL FILLED MY CAR, AND LEAKED GAS ALL OVER THE GROUND WHEREVER I DROVE OR PARKED. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL, BUT NO ENGINE LIGHT AS IN THE LAST VISIT. THEY COULD SMELL IT AND SEE IT HAD SOAKED THE REAR END OF MY VEHICLE. THIS TIME THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE IS A PLASTIC RING AROUND THE TOP OF THE TANK THAT WAS CRACKED AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TANK AND SYSTEM FOR APPROXIMATELY $1000 ADDITIONAL ON TOP OF WHAT I HAD ALREADY REPLACED. I ASKED HIM HOW ALL THESE MECHANICS COULD MISS THIS?? AND HOW CAN IT CRACK IF IT'S SO TIGHT IN THERE UNLESS THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR IS THERE A DESIGN FLAW, OR A FAILURE OF THE PART ITSELF BECAUSE OF SOME PROBLEM IN MANUFACTURING. THE CAR LEAKS WHILE PARKED, IN MOTION, AND FILLS WITH GAS FUMES. I AM TERRIFIED I MAY HIT A POT HOLE AND BLOW UP. MYSELF I DON'T MIND, BUT I HAVE MY 2YO GRANDSON WITH ME AND THAT IS JUST SCARY AS ALL GET OUT. AND THERE IS NO ENGINE LIGHT THAT COMES ON FOR THIS. HE TELLS ME THE PART SEALS AS THE SYSTEM COMPRESSES WHEN STARTING AND THE GAS EXPANDS WITH HEAT THAT'S WHY THE OVERFLOW.THAT MAY EXPLAIN SOME, BUT I LOSE A TANK OF GAS EVERY 2-4 DAYS. IF THE BREAK IS AT THE TOP HOW IS THE GAS LEAVING MY TANK IN SUCH EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNTS? AND THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO SERVICED THAT CAR WERE FORD "MECHANICS".COMPUTER ILLITERATE FOR UPLOADS, BUT I HAVE DOCUMENTATION& PICS

I HAD MY EVAP CANISTER LEAK WHICH I PAID TO HAVE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES AGO ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO A GAS LEAK. NOW I'VE BEEN TOLD THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE SEAL BECAUSE IT IS LEAKING FUEL AROUND THIS EVAP CANISTER AND IT'S A "CLOSED" SYSTEM. THEY CLAIM THE SEAL BLEW BECAUSE OF THE SYSTEM WHEN THEY PUT IN THE NEW EVAP CANISTER. THEY OFFERED TO DO THIS FOR AN ADDITIONAL $178.60 AT FORD'S QUICK LANE SERVICE. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE EVAP CANISTER WHY DIDN'T THEY REDO THE SEAL THEN? THEY CLAIM IT DIDN'T SHOW ON THE CODES IN THE COMPUTER. YET THE GAS SMELL NEVER WENT AWAY AND I FOUND GAS UNDER MY VEHICLE EVERYDAY FROM BEFORE AND SINCE THE "REPAIR" OF THE EVAP CANISTER. I WAS AWAY AND WHEN I RETURNED I CALLED THEM AND TOOK IT IN AND THAT'S WHEN I WAS GIVEN THIS INFORMATION. THEY ALSO TELL ME OTHER INTERNAL SEALS CAN ALSO GO WHEN THEY CHANGE THIS EVAP CANISTER. I GET THE "PRIVILEGE" OF PAYING THEM EACH TIME THEY DO A REPAIR TWICE! ONE FOR WHATEVER THEY REPLACED THE EVAP CANISTER WHICH THEY SWEAR WAS THE ONLY PROBLEM AND THEN WHEN IT DIDN'T RESEAL THE SYSTEM THE SEAL BLEW. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THEY COULDN'T HAVE SEEN OR KNOWN ABOUT THIS SEAL FROM THIS HAPPENING BEFORE. AND EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T OR COULDN'T, WHY WASN'T THE SEAL REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION TO THEIR SEALED SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE IS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE, AND IT HAS BEEN IN THEIR SHOP FOR MORE REPAIRS THAN I CARE TO REMEMBER. EVERY TIME THEY FIX ONE PROBLEM ANOTHER ONE MIRACULOUSLY APPEARS WITHIN 100 MILES OR SO.

THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE PROBLEM HAPPENED WERE IMMEDIATELY AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, GOING TO WORK. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE AND ACCELERATED. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CAR LOST POWER AND SLOWED--PUTTED ALONG AS IF IT WERE RUNNING ON 2 CYLINDERS. I STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED PERHAPS 20-30 SECONDS, THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THEN ENGINE THEN RAN FINE, AND I CONTINUTED ON MY WAY. YESTERDAY, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STRUCK 3 TIMES AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. EACH TIME, I TRIED THE ABOVE RESPONSE, AND IT WORKED--FOR A SHORT TIME. I LIVE ABOUT 4 MILES FROM WORK, AND THE PROBLEM AROSE 3 TIMES IN THE APPROX. 15 MINUTES IT TAKES TO DRIVE HOME. MY WIFE MENTIONED THAT THE PROBLEM STRUCK WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE.

VEHICLE STALLED AND WENT INTO "LIMP-HOME" MODE AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED CONDITION.("LIMP-HOME" MODE IS A MODE PROGRAMMED BY FORD ENGINEERS TO ONLY ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD UNDER LIMITED POWER, GENERALLY ONLY 1-2 MPH.) I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AN ADDITIONAL TWO TIMES ABOUT TWO WEEKS APART FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO USE MY OWN OBD II CODE SCANNER TO DETECT THE ERROR CODE P2111. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS COMPONENT WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY AND FORD MOTOR CORPORATION ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THIS COMPONENT. HOWEVER, FORD WILL ONLY REPLACE THIS PART IF THEY ARE ABLE TO DOCUMENT THE ERROR CODE THEMSELVES ON THEIR CODE SCANNER. THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE DESIGN OF THIS VEHICLE IN THAT IT WON'T STORE THIS PARTICULAR CODE. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS, THE ONLY COURSE OF ACTION IS TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND TURN IT BACK ON IN HOPES OF RESETTING THE TRHOTTLE BODY. THIS WORKS BUT IT CANCELS THE ERROR CODE. THE DRIVER IS FORCED TO EMPLOY THIS TECHNIQUE TO CONTINUE THEIR TRAVEL OR FACED WITH THE OPTION OF WAITING FOR FORD TO COME AND SCAN FOR THE CODE THEMSELVES. IF THIS HAPPENS AFTER NORMAL WORK HOURS, THIS OF COURSE IS NOT AN OPTION. THE FACT THAT THIS ERROR CODE ERASES ITSELF IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET THE VEHICLE MOVING AGAIN IS A CATCH 22 SITUATION AND ONE THAT FORD SHOULD CORRECT. I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE MY OWN REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY SINCE FORD WOULD NOT REPLACE IT.

MY CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER, THE RADIO IS STILL WORKING, A/C IS STILL WORKING AS WELL AS THE ENGINE BUT I WAS NOT GETTING NO ACCELERATION AT ALL AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME AND 3 LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED: WRENCH LIGHT, OIL AND ENGINE LIGHT. I GOT THE ENGINE LIGHT FIXED THE OTHER WEEK AS WELL AS AN OIL CHANGE SEVERAL WEEKS BACK AND THE WRENCH WAS THE FIRST FOR ME. I DONE SOME RESEARCH AND I SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER WITH A FORD ESCAPE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED DIFFERENT MECHANICS, SOME SAY ITS THE ALTERNATOR OR IT COULD BE THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT EITHER WAY I AM SCREWED BECAUSE FORD CHARGES AN ARM AND A LEG TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT DOES NOT REFUND YOU IF THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN FT. MYERS, FL AND THEY TOLD ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND PAY A $100 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TOO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE, MY ISSUE IS THAT I AM AFRAID THAT I CAN NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I END UP IN AN ACCIDENT OR I PAY A $100 FOR THEM TOO TELL ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR(SOMETHING FORD IS KNOWN FOR). PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, WHICH DIDN'T FIRE UP AS USUAL, BUT IT DID RESTART. PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND DROVE TO WORK WITHOUT INCIDENT. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANYMORE! PEOPLE ON THE FREEWAY WERE NOT WILLING TO SLOW DOWN TO LET ME OVER, THE KEPT FLYING AROUND ME. I DRIVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE WHICH HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. IN MARCH OF 2015 I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT PUDDLES OF GASOLINE WERE APPEARING UNDER MY VEHICLE. WENT ON LINE TO RESEARCH PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YET FORD HAS DONE AND IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. TO MY SURPRISE, THE CAR STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL AUTO SHOP TO HAVE THE COMPUTER CHECKED TO SEE IF THE ERROR WAS STILL IN THE SYSTEM, BUT IT WAS ALREADY CLEARED. TWO WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM A VACATION WEEKEND, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING, EXCEPT THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, THREE HOURS FROM HOME WITH MY SON IN THE BACK SEAT. TO SAY I WAS RATTLED WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, TURN THE CAR OFF, RESTART THE CAR AND REJOIN TRAFFIC. ROUGHLY 1 HOUR LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED THE CAR OFF FOR INSPECTION AND SERVICE. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO PINPOINT THE ISSUE TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY, AND DETERMINED IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $375 AND 24 HOURS LATER THE CAR WAS FIXED. NO ISSUES AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK IN MY POSSESSION FOR TWO WEEKS. I WANTED TO ISSUE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT, AND EXPRESS MY DISSATISFACTION WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR KNOWING ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, AND DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON ISSUANCE OF A RECALL. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR SINCE AUGUST OF 2013. THE CAR WOULD LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING SLOWING DOWN TO A CRAWL WITHOUT NOTICE. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED ABOUT 5 TIMES SINCE THAT OCCURRENCE. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES SINCE THAT TIME WITH ABOUT $2000 IN REPAIR BILLS THAT INCLUDED ENGINE WORK, NEW BATTERY, NEW ALTERNATOR, ETC. THE CAR WAS TOWED EACH TIME TO MONGOS AUTO REPAIR IN CINNAMINSON NJ. ON THIS OCCURRENCE I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS MODEL IS HAVING COMMON PROBLEMS AS PER THE ABOVE AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. MONGOS CHECKED AND THERE WAS A RECALL BY FORD TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. WE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD. WE WERE INFORMED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY IF THE CAR HAD 60,000 MILES OR LESS. WHILE IN THE LEFT LANE OF A 3 LANE HIGHWAY (BISHOP FORD) I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65 MPH THEN ACCELERATING TO 72 MPH THE CAR MADE A JERK ( FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION) THEN THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TRIED TO PUSH THE GAS AND NOTHING. I SLOWLY MOVED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE WHICH WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE AVERAGE SPEED ON THIS HIGHWAY IS ABOUT 70 AND I HAD TO CROSSOVER 2 LANES AND AT THIS POINT THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 40 MPH. AFTER WAITING AT A RED LIGHT, MY VEHICLE TRAVELLED ABOUT 100 YARDS. THE ENGINE SHUTTERED, ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS UNRESPONSIVE, AND THE ENGINE RPMS DROPPED TO 900. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE CAR THEN RESTARTED IT. EVERYTHING WAS FINE, EXCEPT FOR MY CONFIDENCE, FOR THE NEXT 6 MILES. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUTTERED, WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND RPMS IMMEDIATELY DROPPED. SAME UNRESPONSIVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO A SIDE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES, ENOUGH TIME TO CALL MY WIFE AND LET HER KNOW TO BE READY TO COME PICK ME UP IF MY CAR WOULDN'T MAKE IT HOME. WHILE DRIVING THE 2009 FORD ESCAPE DOWN HIGHWAY, EXPERIENCED A BRIEF LURCH THEN COMPLETE AND IMMEDIATE LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL. ENGINE SPEED DECREASED TO APPROX. 1000 RPM MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING AND FORCING AN EMERGENCY STOP ON SHOULDER. WHILE STOPPED ON SHOULDER, ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE TO THROTTLE, AND REMAINED ROUGHLY IDLING AT 1K RPMS. SHUT OFF ENGINE, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESTARTING, THROTTLE CONTROL APPEARED TO BE WORKING NORMALLY. THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS SYMPTOMS IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE FAILURE: ENGINE APPEARED TO BE RUNNING FINE, AND THROTTLE CONTROL WAS WORKING NORMALLY UNTIL THE INCIDENT. THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL AND CORRESPONDING DECREASE IN VEHICLE SPEED WAS DISORIENTING, AND COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION OR ACCIDENT IF SURROUNDING TRAFFIC WERE HEAVIER OR DRIVER HAD PANICKED. VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY DEALER AS HAVING A "FAILING THROTTLE BODY". CODES RETRIEVED WERE P2111 AND P2135, AND PINPOINT TESTS SHOWED THAT "THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL MOTOR IS FAILING". SINCE THAT OCCURRENCE, I HAVE HAD THE ENGINE DIE MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS GENERALLY HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT SIGNAL. THE CAR DIES, AND IT IS ALWAYS RIGHT BEFORE THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN! YOU HAVE TO QUICKLY PUT IT IN PARK, RESTART THE ENGINE, AND THEN IT RUNS FINE. WHEN IT DIES, THE THROTTLE WILL NOT FUNCTION AT ALL AS IT GOES RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, IT DIED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ALSO. SAME SCENARIO AS MENTIONED ABOVE AND ALSO WHEN STOPPED, THE CAR THROTTLE KIND OF SURGES, ALMOST AS IF THE CAR IS GOING TO DIE. WHEN YOU APPLY GAS, IT JUMPS FORWARD. I TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALER AND AFTER MULTIPLE VISITS THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE A CODE READER AND THE CODE WAS P2111 AND P2112 (ERROR THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK). THEY FIRST CHARGED ME FOR "CLEANING" THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. SAID I MUST HAVE BLOWN DUST IN IT! ALSO TOLD ME MY 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION HAS SHIFT ISSUES ON HARD ACCELERATION....PROBABLY CAUSED BY THEM. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, APPROXIMATELY 6:30AM, GOING 70 IN A 65 ZONE. THE RADIO WAS ON, SO I HEARD NOTHING STRANGE, BUT SUDDENLY, WITH NO WARNING, MY CAR LOST THE POWER MOVING IT FORWARD. I DID NOT LOSE CONTROL OF MY 09 ESCAPE. THE STEERING REMAINED OK, AS DID THE BRAKES, BUT MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER IN THE ENGINE TO KEEP MY CAR MOVING FORWARD. AS IF MAYBE I HAD RUN OUT OF GAS - BUT THERE WAS NO SPUTTERING AND I WAS NOT LOW ON GAS. I KEPT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL THINKING MAYBE THERE WAS TRASH IN MY GAS LINE, BUT THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE WAY MY VEHICLE BEHAVED. I WAS SLOWING DOWN FAST, BUT COULD STEER MYSELF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A MINUTE OR 2, AND TRIED TO START AGAIN. IT TOOK A MINUTE TO CATCH, BUT IT FINALLY DID AND I DROVE OFF. 5 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY, IT DID IT AGAIN. AGAIN, I STRUGGLED TO THE SHOULDER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED. I WAS 50 MILES FROM HOME IN A RATHER REMOTE AREA AND I WAS SCARED. AGAIN, I STARTED MY ESCAPE - AGAIN IT TOOK A MINUTE, BUT IT DID START AND I MADE IT ALL THE WAY HOME WITHOUT ANOTHER PROBLEM. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND MY CAR HIS BEEN THERE 36 DAYS. I CALL EVERY OTHER WEEK TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE PART. THEY NEVER HAVE ANY NEWS OF THE PART COMING. ON SUNDAY, JUNE 16, 2013, I WAS DRIVING NEAR TOPEKA, KANSAS, IN A SUBURBAN AREA WITH MY WIFE, 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER & 6 MONTH OLD SON IN OUR 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT ON A HIGH TRAFFIC STREET SO WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTART THE CAR SUCCESSFULLY. THE ESCAPE CONTINUED ON WITHOUT ISSUE BACK HOME TO LAWRENCE, KANSAS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AROUND LAWRENCE WITHOUT ANY ISSUE UNTIL FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2013. ON THIS DATE MY WIFE HAD TO COMMUTE FROM LAWRENCE TO KANSAS CITY, KANSAS, FOR WORK-RELATED TRAINING. ON HER TRIP TO KANSAS CITY (KC) THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (60+ MPH). SHE WAS SUCCESSFUL RESTARTING THE VEHICLE BUT IT STALLED ONCE AGAIN WHILE IN KC. SHE DROVE THE ESCAPE TO SHAWNEE MISSION FORD TO SEE IF DIAGNOSTICS COULD BE RUN ON THE VEHICLE, BUT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME LEFT IN THE DAY TO PERFORM THE FULL DIAGNOSTICS. A SERVICE TECHNICIAN TEST-DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WHILE DRIVING IT STALLED ONCE AGAIN. BECAUSE CARSEATS FOR OUR TWO CHILDREN WERE LOCATED IN THE ESCAPE, MY WIFE HAD TO DRIVE FROM KC BACK TO LAWRENCE SO OUR FAMILY WOULD HAVE THESE ITEMS ON HAND. WHILE DRIVING FROM KC TO LAWRENCE THE VEHICLE STALLED ONCE AGAIN AT HIGHWAY SPEED (60+ MPH). ONCE BACK IN LAWRENCE THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF AT LAIRD NOLLER FORD, AND ON SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2013, IT WAS DETERMINED BY THEIR SERVICE STAFF THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. THIS PART IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACKORDER, SO WE COULD BE WITHOUT OUR PRIMARY FAMILY VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 3 WEEKS. THE DEALER THEN CLEANED OUT MY CURRENT THROTTLE BODY AND TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A TEMPORARY 3 MOS FIX. THIS MORNING 5/29, THE CAR DIED AGAIN 4X ON I-95. 2 OF THE 4X IT STALLED, I WAS IN NEAR ACCIDENTS. TODAY THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND DESPITE STOPPING THE CAR, PUSHING THE FUEL PUMP RESET, AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT STILL WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN. I WILL NOW HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND, ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, REPAIRS PAID FOR AT MY EXPENSE. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL AND THERE NEEDS TO BE. DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ENGINE CONTINUED RUNNING. TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AND ENGINE DID ACCELERATE FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE BEFORE REPEATING THE FAILURE. PULLED OVER ONCE AGAIN AND REPEATED THE PROCESS AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME (ABOUT 3 MORE MILES). TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP NEXT MORNING AND DIAGNOSIS IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. I RECENTLY READ IN A NEWSPAPER ABOUT AN ENGINE PROBE FOR FORD VEHICLES AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH STALLING AND/OR SURGING ENGINE IN MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED. I BELIEVE MY CAR HAD EXPERIENCED THIS "LIMP HOME MODE" ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD. ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY, I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I FELT AS THOUGH I COULD NOT ACCELERATE THE CAR AT ALL. ON 3/29/12 I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED WORKING, ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD NO POWER. I PULLED TO THE SIDE, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS NEAR ME, AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME OVER AND WHEN HE ARRIVED, HE TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. I DROVE IT TO THE FORD DEALER SERVICE CENTER AND THEY DISCOVERED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WAS DEFECTIVE. SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY I HAD TO PAY. IN DECEMBER 2012 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND AFTER SEVERAL TIMES I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY (THEY ARE NEVER SURE) THE THROTTLE BODY AGAIN BUT THEY WERE NOT SURE. I PAID FOR A REPLACEMENT AGAIN. IN FEBRUARY 2013 AFTER 2 REPLACEMENTS IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. OF COURSE THEY CANNOT TELL FOR SURE IF IT IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY SO I NOW HAVE A RECORDING DEVICE ATTACHED TO MY CAR SO IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I CAN PRESS THE BUTTON AND IT WILL RECORD WHAT THE ENGINE WAS DOING. WHILE DRIVING IN MEDIUM TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE DIED AND THE CHECK-ENGINE-LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RE-START THE CAR. ONCE BACK ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE LATER. I STARTED THE CAR A SECOND TIME AND THE ENGINE ONCE AGAIN DIED. BY THIS TIME, TRAFFIC WAS BEGINNING TO BACK UP BEHIND ME AND I WAS ENTERING AN AREA WHERE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO ESCAPE TO IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CALLED FOR A TOW. DRIVING AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THIS HAD HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY ON 11/25/12 AND THE DEALER REPAIR WAS REPLACING BOTH VCT SOLENOIDS AND VALVE COVER GASKETS. BOTH TIMES WHEN THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED AFTER 3-5 MINUTES. I WAS ABLE TO GO ANOTHER 6-8 MILES AND THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE SECOND TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN SECONDS LATER 8 OTHER LIGHTS WERE LIT ON THE DASH. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AFTER COASTING TO THE MEDIAN OF THE HIGHWAY (WAS IN LEFT LANE WITH TRAFFIC AT 55MPH) AND WAITED FOR A TOW FROM THE DEALER. NOW THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THIS REPAIR (REPLACEMENT OF THROTTLE BODY) IS NOT COVERED AS THE VEHICLE IS MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD (ACTUALLY, I'VE HAD IT FOR 44 MONTHS). I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY GOING APPROX 55 MPH. AFTER DRIVING APPROX 6 MILES THE RPM'S STARTED TO REV UP AND DOWN FROM 500 TO THE MAX RPM. I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING BUT MY SPEED WAS NOT CHANGING. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE, I COULD ONLY BREAK. I QUICKLY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED FOR APPROX. 5 MINUTES. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, REVVED THE ENGINE A FEW TIMES. ALL SEEMED NORMAL. SO I CONTINUED SLOWLY. NOTHING FURTHER HAPPENED FOR 3 WEEKS. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN, ALSO ON THE FREEWAY AT THE SAME APPROXIMATE SPEED. I DID THE SAME THING AND HAD NO ISSUES UNTIL RECENTLY. SINCE THEN MY MPG HAS GONE DOWN FROM AVG 28 TO AVG 24 MPG. THE ENGINE/TRANS? ALWAYS HESITATES TO SHIFT AND OCCASIONALLY THE RPM'S GO HIGHER THEN THEY SHOULD BEFORE THE ENGINE SHIFTS BACK DOWN. TWO DAYS AGO ON 11/22/12 I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AFTER GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY (70 MPH). AFTER SITTING THROUGH THE RED LIGHT I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE RPM'S DID NOT MOVE EITHER, THEY WERE STEADY AT IDLE RPM OF ABOUT 1500. I HIT THE GAS PEDDLE AGAIN AND FINALLY MY CAR JERKED INTO GEAR AND REVVED UP TO ABOUT 3000 RPM. I TRIED TO REPLICATE THIS AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT BUT IT HASN'T DONE IT SINCE. I WILL BE TAKING MY CAR IN ON MONDAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BUT FEAR THAT DEALER WILL AGAIN FIND NOTHING WRONG. MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE STALLED (ENGINE RUNNING BUT NO FORWARD MOTION AND NO RESPONSE TO ACCELERATOR) WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER HEAVY TRAFFIC. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY ONCOMING VEHICLES. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY BY DEALER. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THIS IS KNOWN DEFECT, VERY SIMILAR TO NHTSA ACTION # DP12006: "...VEHICLES THAT WERE DIAGNOSED AS FAILED THROTTLE BODIES WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P2111, THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN, AND P2222, THROTTLE BODY STUCK CLOSED. THE PETITIONER INDICATES THAT THE OWNERS OF BOTH VEHICLES REPORTED EXPERIENCING REPEATED INCIDENTS OF STALLING..." FORD HAS "RELEASED A NUMBER OF TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS THAT COVER A WIDE RANGE OF VEHICLES AND THROTTLE BODY ISSUES RELATED TO HESITATION AND STALLING, INCLUDING 08-18-2 AND 09-23-5." THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE AT AROUND 40-60 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST ALL ACCELERATION. AT THE SAME TIME THE ORANGE WRENCH CAME ON MY DASHBOARD. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ONCE RANDOMLY BEFORE BUT THE MECHANIC COULD FIND NO REASON FOR IT TO BE HAPPENING. SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON THIS TIME HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONCLUDED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY. WHILE TRAVELING AT 70MPH, VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE OF A HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. NO WARNING SIGNS WERE DISPLAYED. AFTER PULLING TO THE SHOULDER, VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND SEEMED TO BE FINE. SERVICE TECHNICIAN FOUND A FAILURE CODE FOR 'THROTTLE STUCK CLOSED' WITH 'FREEZE DATA' SHOWING IT HAPPENED AT 71MPH. HE INSPECTED THE THROTTLE AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. AS A PRECAUTION, HE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BLADE WITH A CLEANING WIPE. A WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING, I THEN NEEDED TO KEEP MY FOOT ON BOTH THE GAS AND BRAKE WHILE AT STOPS. RETURN TO MY TECHNICIAN AND HE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. HE SAID THAT THE COMPUTER DATA SHOWED THE THROTTLE OPEN ONLY 52% WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS WIDE OPEN. VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED THE THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY CAN BECOME STUCK AND CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE ALL THROTTLE AND SPEED CONTROL. PROBLEM WILL PRESENT ITSELF AS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AS SHIFTING THROUGH ALL THE GEARS WILL NOT CLEAR THE PROBLEM, UNTIL ENGINE IS POWERED DOWN AND RESTARTED. THIS IS A CLEAR AND EVIDENT PROBLEM THAT APPEARS AT OR AROUND 75,000 MILES. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FACTORY MODEL THROTTLE BODY INSTALLED IN MOST ESCAPE MODEL VEHICLES. I WAS SITTING IN THE BANK LINE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WAITING TO GET TO THE DRIVE-UP ATM WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKE HARDER TO STOP THE CAR FROM MOVING FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS.
