Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 101,000, and at the time of programming the keys, it was discovered that the mileage was 122,765. The VIN was incomplete.

While driving, the power steering assist intermittently fails without warning. This makes steering very difficult and creates a serious safety hazard, especially at low speeds or during turns. The issue can be temporarily resolved by turning the engine off and restarting the vehicle, but it recurs unpredictably. There are no warning lights or error messages displayed on the dashboard. This is a known issue on this model year and may relate to a defective EPS (electric power steering) module. Please investigate.

The vehicle was taken to AutoZone and the contact was informed that three sensors needed to be replaced. Two sensors were replaced; however, the ABS sensor was not replaced due to cost. The contact stated that on the drive home, an abnormal odor was coming from the vehicle. While the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was consumed by fire and destroyed. The Fire and Police departments were called. A fire report was filed; the Fire Department stated the cause of the fire was due to faulty wiring. The contact notified her insurance company and the vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The power steering keeps going out and the car becomes almost impossible to control. I have to turn the car off and on several times for it to work again. I am scared to drive it because I do not want to wreck. No warnings it just goes out. This has happened on numerous occasions. I noticed recalls on this for the same reason on the same vehicle. Why does my car not have the same recall?
Discovered my car has electric power steering not seeing a reservoir did some research and seen that there were a lot of 2011 Ford Escapes with safety recalls three being the main problems I've had with my car since I began financing it almost 4 years ago my last payment is in 2 weeks. Went to leave a driveway and within a few seconds my steering wheel locked up and I thought it was strange that's when I found out I have electric power steering and that there has been recalls turned the car off turn to back on and it was just fine. Found out that is a common thing although it may not be considered a safety recall just yet but I would believe it is a major problem because anytime in my life if I was to believe my power steering was failing me I would still have control over the wheel but this thing locks up as if I ain't going nowhere. I seen that there has been recalls for fuel systems front wheel bearings and electric power steering. My engine light has been on for a very long time and people say it's because of the O2 sensor causing a misfire to appear random. My front wheels kind of knock making me think it could be between the rack axle and bearing. Other than that my radio face button stopped working one day as if they were possessed until they completely shut off and I have no access to it besides the steering wheel components. Rear wiper stuck in the up position one day was causing a tick I could hear with no power and no key in the ignition that caused my battery to die several times 2 years in a row. Realized unplugging my rear wiper made it quit but I can't use my front washer fluid without it being unplugged. And my AC Open Air Max AC and heating cooling climate control buttons work but the blower only works on high making me think yet another electrical issue being the blower speed regulator is bad. I would say these are safety issues package together. This website says I have 0unrepaired recalls. Might try fix it with a torque sensor/calling dealership.

I AM A 79 YEAR OLD DISABLED MAN WHEN I STOPPED AT TH SPOKANE VA HOSPITAL THE DRIVER'S DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD AND COULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOOR.TO GET OUT.EVEN THE KEY IS ONLY AN ELECTRIC SWITCH THERE IS NO MECHANICAL WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR. IF I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR WAS ON FIRE I WOULD HAVE DIED. AS IS I HAD AN EXTREMELY DIFICULT TIME CLIMBING OUT OF THE CAR. I DROVE TO A FORD DEALER TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIX IT BUT THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE TWO OR MORE WEEKS BEFORE THEY COULD HELP ME. I ASKED THEM IF I HAD TO STAY IN THAT CAR FOR ALL THAT TIME.
The electric power steering failed several times while driving. Have to turn off and on the get it working again. It fails without warning while driving. Informed dealer and they stated don’t worry about it that it is not on recall. It is very dangerous to drive and happens without warning. This vehicle needs a recall to be able to fix this serious dangerous situation. I have to drive with kids in the car. This is a serious hazard to me and others. When driving, the power steering goes out and you are not able to steer the car. It is very noticeable when I am making a right or left hand turn. You have to turn the steer wheel manually (a lot different from manual steering in older cars). When this happens, I put the car in neutral, turn the car off, restart the car, and put it back in drive. This temporarily fixes the problem. Very difficult to turn the wheel. It is extremely stressful and difficult to control the car at that point. I have not been in an accident yet and no bodily harm has been caused; however, I am hoping it doesn't ever happen. I was told by Ford that this is the Electric Power Steering Gear. There was a recall for Ford Escape 2011 and my VIN is not included. It should be as I am experiencing the same problems. There is no warning before this happens. It just happens and you cannot prepare for it. I would truly appreciate to be included in the recall as I do have a 2011 Ford Escape and I am experiencing the same problems/issues the other cars did that were included in the recall. As this was purchased as a used car, I was not aware of the possible recall and this problem. The date below only indicates the most current incident.
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STARTED BY FLASHING ALL LIGHTS TO STAYING ON. THEN THE SPEED CONTROLS, SPEEDOMETER, RPM GAUGE, AND HEAT SENSOR WOULD NOT WORK. ON TOP OF ALL THIS. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO MAKE A CLICKING NOISE WHEN THIS ISSUE WOULD HAPPEN AND THE BRAKES WOULD ACT ROUGH. NO MECHANIC COULD FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM UNTIL IT WAS TO LATE. THIS NEEDS TO BE BETTER KNOWN AND BETTER MANAGED.

IT STARTED OFF AS MY HEADLIGHTS WERE DIMMING AND FLICKERING, THEN IT PROGRESSED TO MY DASH LIGHTS DOING THE SAME, FLICKERING AND DIMMING ON AND OFF. THEN IT STARTED AFFECTING MY AC AND HEAT, IT WOULD GET LOCKED TO STAY ON AND I WOULD HAVE IT TURNED OFF BUT IF MY GAUGES WERE IN A CERTAIN POSITION SOMETIMES IT WOULD JUST TURN ON BY ITSELF. THEN MY BATTERY LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF, AND THEN MY POWER STEERING WAS MAKING LIKE A CLICK SOUND AND IT WOULD GO IN AND OUT. ONE TIME MY LOCKS WERE GOING ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES AS WELL. I REPLACED THE BATTERY THINKING IT WAS DYING, THAT DIDN'T HELP. I TOOK IT TO GET THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR TESTED AND IT WAS GIVING A 100%. THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE FORD ESCAPE HYBRID FAILED UNEXPECTEDLY AND WITHOUT WARNING AT ONLY 60K MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AT ONCE AND THE SYSTEM READ "CHECK BRAKES." THE BRAKES FELT LOOSE, AND I TOOK IT A MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY. THEY THOUGHT THAT PRESSURE WAS GETTING SENT UNEVENLY TO BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE, SO THEY FLUSHED THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THEY DISCOVERED TOTAL ABS FAILURE, AND A $3000 FIX ASSOCIATED WITH IT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THERE ARE FACEBOOK GROUPS ADVOCATING FOR A RECALL OF THIS VEHICLE. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE DIDN'T CRASH INTO SOMEONE. THE BRAKES ONLY WORK IF YOU APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO THEM, AND EVEN THEN THEY GET LOOSE AND THE CAR STARTS TO ROLL AWAY. THESE ISSUES ARE BECOMING EXTREMELY PREVALENT NOW IN 2020 THAT THE 2008-2011 ERA OF THIS HYBRID IS GETTING A BIT OLDER. ALL LIGHTS CAME ON BUT NO SOUND WAS HEARD AND ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. CHECKED NEW BATTERY WHICH WAS WITHIN LIMITS. CHECKED SYMPTOMS ONLINE AND FOUND ISSUE TO BE FAULTY NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH. UPON FURTHER SEARCH, FOUND NUMEROUS OWNERS OF 2008-2012 FORD ESCAPE AND MERCURY MARINERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS IS NOT A FACTORY RECALL IF IT IS HAPPENING THIS OFTEN.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

SECOND ISSUE IS THAT WHEN IT RAINS HEAVY WATER IS COMING THROUGH FROM THE OUTSIDE INTO ALL MY DOORS & IT STAYS THERE BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLUG TO LET THE WATER OUT. THE CHEAPEST OPTION WAS TO DRILL HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF EACH DOOR TO LET THE WATER OUT.

THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE IGNITION SYSTEM. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED- NO NOISE, NO CLICKING JUST NOTHING. I HAVE LEARNED TO PUSH THE KEY IN HARD WHILE TURNING AND THEN THE VEHICLE STARTS NORMALLY. AT TIMES EVEN THIS WILL NOT WORK AND I AM STUCK WHERE EVER I AM UNTIL IT DECIDES TO START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET I HAVE READ DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE ACROSS A RANGE OF YEARS FOR THE FORD ESCAPE. I COULD NOT FIND ANY RECALL NOTICES FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE SHOULD BE AS I AM GUESSING THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE HAS TO BE ENORMOUS.

WHILE ON HIGHWAY TRAVELING TO CHICAGO, MY VEHICLE POWER STEERING FAILED. I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL WITHOUT GREAT DIFFICULTY. THE POWER STEERING IS ELECTRICAL SO CANNOT DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING. HAD TO LEAVE CAR STRANDED IN SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS AT LANDMARK FORD AND PAY $50 PER DAY FOR RENTAL. IT IS A SAFETY RECALL 14S05 AND HAS FAILED IN HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CARS IN THE US AND CANADA. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL INFORMATION ONLINE AND MY CALLS TO DEALERSHIPS; MY CAR'S RECALL UPDATED THE SOFTWARE TO LET ME KNOW THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR WHICH IS THE ITEM THAT FAILED ON THE HIGHWAY AND MADE MY CAR NOT OPERATIONAL. IF YOUR TORQUE SENSOR FAILED PRIOR IT WAS REPLACED BY FORD UNDER THE RECALL - IF IT HADN'T FAILED BY THE TIME OF THE SOFTWARE UPDATE THE RECALL WAS CLOSED OUT. I HAVE FOUND ALL THIS OUT TODAY BEFORE MY CAR HAS BEEN FIXED. SO FORD WILL NOT FIX MY TORQUE SENSOR AND THE COST IS $617 PLUS THE RENTAL CAR AT $50 PER DAY. (MY CAR FAILED 5 HOURS FROM HOME) - I HAVE TO GO PICK IT UP WHEN IT IS FIXED. SINCE IT WAS A SAFETY RECALL AND THE TORQUE SENSOR HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPLACED, AND FORD KNEW THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH 1.1 MILLION CARS, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR A FAILED FAULTY PART? MY CAR ONLY HAS 74,000 MILES AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. THE CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BUT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY EASILY. HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS STRANDED 275 MILES FROM HOME AND FORD WILL NOT FIX THE FAULTY PART. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM VERY UNHAPPY. THE TORQUE SENSOR, STEERING COLUMN OR WHATEVER PARTS MAKE THIS CAR UNSAFE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF UNDER THE RECALL. FORD NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT AND LOSS OF LIVES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

MORE TELEPHONE CALLS WITH FORD IDENTIFIED MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE AS BEING MANUFACTURED ON 09/09/2010 AND WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. CONVERSATIONS SINCE 2/16/18 YIELDED THAT MOJAVE AUTO GROUP PERFORMED A SOFTWARE RESET IN DECEMBER 2014 RATHER THAN REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING UNIT. I HAVE VIEWED MULTIPLE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE AND READ MANY POSTS ON THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. IN EVERY CASE, THE VEHICLE OWNER SAID THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACEMENT FAILED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. WHAT WAS FOUND TO BE TRUE IN MANY OF THEM WAS THE DISCOVERY OF COLD SOLDER JOINTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT BOARD. ONCE THIS WAS CORRECTED, THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY WITH A FULLY FUNCTIONAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE CONCLUSION TO BE DRAWN HERE IS THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BY FORD. AS TO IT BEING A SAFETY ISSUE, SEVERAL OF THE POSTS STATED THAT THE ENTIRE CLUSTER FAILED SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS YET BUT FEAR, IF LEFT UNCORRECTED, THAT IT COULD LEAD TO THAT. WHEN THE STEERING LOCKS IT REQUIRES STOPPING NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE AT AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE TO RESET AND THEN STARTING IT AGAIN. THIS PROBABLY HAPPENED A DOZEN OR MORE TIMES ON BUSY HIGHWAYS. THIS VEHICLE IS ROUGHLY THREE YEARS OLD AND THEY CAN'T EVEN SAY WHY THE MODULES ARE CONTINUING TO GO OUT AND IF FIXING THEM WILL EVEN SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INDICATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL ISSUE COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL ON CURVY ROADS. I SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID TO BAD, THIS IS NOT ON THEIR LIST OF ITEMS THAT THEY HAVE TO FIX. WE HAD OUR 2011 ESCAPE IN THE DEALERSHIP 2 TIMES DUE TO IT COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING BEFORE THEY COULD FIGURE OUT THAT IS WAS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY (ELECTRICAL ISSUE). THEY TOLD US IT WAS "BAD GAS" EVERY OTHER TIME. WE HAD OUR INFANT IN THE VEHICLE WHEN IT SHUT DOWN ON THE FREEWAY AND SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF US. THANKFULLY WE WERE ABLE TO GET AWAY FROM OTHER VEHICLES AND MAKE AN EMERGENCY EXIT FROM THE FREEWAY ONTO THE SHOULDER UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. ITS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS AND CREATE A RECALL. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH TO FIND SO MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. OUR VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AS WE SPEAK TO THE TUNE OF A $500 FIX AND I JUST GOT OFF THE LINE WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO DEMAND A REIMBURSEMENT. WE TRIED TO GET HOME BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT ABOUT 2 MILES FROM OUR HOME IT DIED AGAIN. WE WERE ON A 2 LANE ROAD BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY AND IT TOOK SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT STARTED AND WE TRIED TO GET BACK ON ROAD BUT IT DIED AGAIN. AFTER A COUPLE MORE TRIES IT STARTED AND WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. WE HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE WE WERE AFRAID IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. I FELT THE ENGINE LOSE POWER AND SAW THAT THE CAR WAS DECELERATING. I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL WITH NO EFFECT. I SIGNALED AND MOVED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET AFTER I REACHED THE SHOULDER, THE CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD AND STALLED. I TURNED IT OFF, LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN IT ON AGAIN. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I CALLED AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. IN SPEAKING TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY, HE TOLD ME E PROBLEM WAS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS DEALERSHIP WAS BACK ORDERED FOR THE PART AS 5 OTHER FORD VEHICLES WERE AWAITING A NEW THROTTLE BODY. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I REALIZED THAT MY VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCED A "LURCHING FORWARD" WHICH WAS LIKELY ALSO RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. UPON PRESENTING THEM WITH NUMEROUS COPIES OF COMPLAINTS FILED ON LINE THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. HOWEVER WITH NO RECALL I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT WHICH WITH TOWING RESULTED IN A $550.00 BILL. APPARENTLY I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THERE WAS ONE REPLACEMENT IN STOCK (HMMM), OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE WEEKS. I HOPE THE REPLACEMENT WORKS BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN A CHRONIC PROBLEM FOR MONTHS. HE SAID HE KNOWS THIS HAS HAPPENED AND WHAT I DESCRIBED HAPPENED TO MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE THIS. HE SAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO CALL BACK". I SAID "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?". IT HAPPENED AGAIN SO I CALLED BACK, GOT AN ANSWERING MACHINE AND LEFT A MESSAGE. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK, AND THE CAR STOPPED DOING THIS. TWO WEEKS LATER IT LOST POWER TWICE IN ONE DAY, ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE WHICH WAS SCARY, THEN TWICE MORE ON MY 3 MILE DRIVE TO WORK IN THE MORNING. I HAD MY SON LOOK AT THE AIR FILTER, HE SAID IT LOOKED FINE AND NOTHING SHOULD GET THROUGH IT AND TO TAKE IT TO THE GARAGE. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD GARAGE, THEY SAID IT NEEDS AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND WILL COST $420, THAT IS THE ESTIMATE. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE FORD GARAGE FOR 6 DAYS NOW. THEY DON'T HAVE THE PART BECAUSE IT IS ON BACKORDER. THEY DID GIVE ME A LOANER CAR AT NO COST, WHICH I APPRECIATE. *TR

I CALLED THE DEALER 2 WEEKS LATER; THE DEALER DID NOT CONTACT ME. I PICKED UP THE PART AND HAD IT INSTALLED. I ALSO PURCHASED A CABIN AIR FILTER IN ORDER TO HAVE THAT REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME. TO MY SURPRISE, THE CAR DID NOT EVEN HAVE A CABIN AIR FILTER INSTALLED WHEN I PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD THAT FILTER REPLACED. I HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES AND CURRENTLY TAKE 2 SHOTS. I WAS NOT HAPPY TO DISCOVER THE AIR ENTERING MY CAR WAS HELPING TO CONTRIBUTE TO MY PROBLEMS WITH MY ALLERGIES. I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD. THIS ESCAPE CLUNKS, SURGES, LOSES POWER, CUT'S OFF AND AT TIMES WILL NOT EVEN CRANK. THE TRANSMISSIONS HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED, THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY - THROTTLE BODY AIR INTAKE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE VAPOR MANAGEMENT VALVE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE TORQUE CONVERTOR HAS BEEN REPLACED. LOST IN ARBITRATION WITH THE BBB BECAUSE FORD SAID IN THEIR LAST REPAIR ATTEMPT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS OPERATING AS NORMAL. JUNE 5, 2013 CAR WAS BACK IN SHOP BECAUSE AT 7:45 AM STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE RPM'S SURGED UP TO 4000, COULD HARDLY KEEP IT FROM RUNNING THE LIGHT, ONCE THE LIGHT CHANGED TOOK OFF AND WITHIN 4 TENTHS OF A MILE LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. IT TOOK ME 8 MINUTES TO GET IT TO CRANK, DROVE ABOUT 15 MILES, SURGING ALL THE WAY, AND THE CAR DIED AGAIN, TAKING ME 10 MINUTES TO GET IT TO CRANK. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP, THEY KEPT IT FOR 7 DAYS, RETURNED IT AND SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. JUNE 20, 2013 TRIED TO CRANK THE CAR AT 10:00 AM, IT WOULD CRANK, BUT GO DEAD, FINALLY AT 11:10 AM IT STAYED CRANKED, DROVE AT 3 TENTHS OF A MILE, CAR GOES DEAD. TAKES ME 5 MINUTES TO RE-CRANK WENT STRAIGHT TO THE SHOP. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND FORD NEEDS TO RE-CALL.

CAR STARTED TO BUCK AND VIBRATE WHEN I TRIED USING THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN TO ACCELERATE FORWARD IN THE SHOULDER AND WOULD STILL NOT MOVE FORWARD. I NOTICED THEN THAT THE ORANGE WRENCH ICON WAS LIT UP ON THE DASH. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AS I FELT IT WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS IT WAS AN ELECTRONIC/EXTERNAL PART. HAD BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN DEC 2010. I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 2 1/2 YEARS OLD AND HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE LED TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, SHUT OFF THE RADIO/AC AND GAVE IT A MOMENT. IT RESTARTED WITH MINOR HESITATION. THE ORANGE WRENCH HAD CLEARED BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME IN (IT STAYED IN THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THIS POST). IT IDLED OK, ALLOWED ME TO ADMINISTER FUEL AND REV THE ENGINE. THINKING THE PROBLEM HAD PASSED, I MERGED BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND CAME UP TO SPEED. ABOUT A HALF A MILE LATER I FELT THE NOTED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER (I BELIEVE THIS IS THE "LIMP-HOME" METHOD THAT IS CITED IN SOME THINGS I HAVE READ TODAY). AGAIN, MY GAS PEDAL IS USELESS AND I RE-ENGAGE THE HAZARDS AND MOVE OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS TIME THE CAR DOES NOT STALL BUT IDLES AROUND 900RPM WITH SOME SPUTTERING. GAS PEDAL IS STILL USELESS. I RINSE AND REPEAT THE ABOVE PROCESS A THIRD TIME, WHEN IT DOES THE SAME THING ANOTHER HALF MILE LATER, I GIVE UP AND CALL A MORE CAR SAVOY FRIEND. HIS FIRST GUESS IS ALSO FUEL PUMP/SOMETHING CLOGGED BUT WE ARE BOTH BAFFLED BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS ARE NOT CONSISTENT WITH ANY CONDITION WE HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. DECIDING IT COULD BE NURSED HOME, THE FOURTH ATTEMPT AT STARTING IT, I MADE THE LAST 2 MILES STAYING 40MPH OR BELOW. THERE WAS NO SPUTTERING/LOSS OF FUEL DELIVERY CAPABILITIES DURING THIS ATTEMPT. AS I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION, I LOST ALL THROTTLE. I HAD NO POWER AT ALL, IT WANTED TO STALL AND I HAD NOWHERE TO PULL OVER FROM THE INSIDE LANE. AFTER STOPPING AND UPON ACCELERATION THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND THE CAR STALLS. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT RUNS OKAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES OVER A 23 MONTH PERIOD. EACH TIME I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE FIRST TWO TIMES I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS STILL BREAKING IN AND IT MUST BE DUE TO THE GAS I WAS USING. THE THIRD TIME, THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ONLY CAME ON ONCE. THEY SAID THEY HAD A NUMBER OF VEHICLES THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED WITH AND REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY HELPED. THREE WEEKS AFTER THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, IT HAPPENED AGAIN! THIS TIME ONLY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. FORD SAYS THEY NEED A CODE TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ONE OTHER PERSON, WHO HAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AS MINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TOO. THIS PERSON ALSO HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. WHILE PULLING ONTO HIGHWAY ONRAMP THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK VIOLENTLY AND SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WAS A BUSY TRAFFIC TIME AND THE SUDDEN DECELERATION OF MY VEHICLE CAUSED OTHERS TO HAVE TO SUDDENLY BRAKE TO AVOID A COLLISION. PULLED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. RESTARTED AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE FIXED. BEGAN DRIVING VEHICLE TO DEALER WITH HAZARD LIGHTS AND PROBLEM OCCURRED ABOUT 4 MORE TIMES. DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. IT WAS A SCARY INCIDENT AS WE WERE JUST SECONDS AWAY FROM JOINING HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING 80MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE WITH 27000 MILES SUDDENLY LOST POWER AS A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO PULL ONTO SHOULDER OR TO MOVE AROUND TRAFFIC. ALL FUEL ACCELERATION WAS LOST. AS I FINALLY COASTED TO THE SHOULDER, NARROWLY AVOIDING BEING THE CAUSE OF MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS, THE VEHICLE STARTING SHAKING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT (POWERTRAIN INDICATION) REMAINED OFF AND THE VEHICLE ACTED NORMAL. THERE WAS NOT AN INDICATION BEFORE OR AFTER THE INCIDENT OF ANY FAULTY SYSTEMS OR PARTS. THE VEHICLE DID THIS WITHOUT ANY REASON, LEAVING ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND RUNNING WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS INCIDENT. I FEAR IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT REASON AND PLACE MY LIFE AND THOSE OF MY PASSENGERS IN HARMS' WAY. *TR

AS I WAS EXITING A HIGHWAY, MY CAR MESSAGE CENTER ALERTED ME TO SAFELY COME TO A STOP. AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET INTO A PARKING LOT, THE CAR SHUT OFF. I RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO GET INTO PARKING LOT ON ELECTRIC, I GUESS. IT WAS TOWED TO UTTER FORD, IN SHERMAN, TX. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND TOLD ME IT HAD TO DO WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND THE ELECTRICAL. THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT AND SAID THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. I PICKED IT UP ON 12/3 AROUND 2:30PM. I GOT 40 MILES AND THE CAR WENT INTO FAIL/SAFE MODE AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO A PARKING LOT. AFTER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON, THE ACCELERATOR STUCK. HITTING THE BREAK DID NOT HELP. THE CAR HAD TO BE TURNED OFF TO KEEP THE ENGINE FROM REVVING. IT WAS TOWED TO DAVID MCDAVID LINCOLN IN PLANO, TEXAS. THE SERVICE TECH SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING REGISTERING ON THE DIAGNOSTIC. ON THEIR SECOND TEST DRIVE, THE CAR TURNED OFF WHILE THE DRIVER WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. THEY HAD TO SEND A TOW TRUCK TO GET HIM. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. *TR
