The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly started to decelerate even though the RPM was extremely elevated. There was a high-pitched whine coming from the vehicle, and the tires screeched before the vehicle came to an abrupt stop, ceasing all functions. The contact turned off the vehicle in the middle of the interstate because the vehicle could not be moved to the shoulder. A passerby assisted with pushing the vehicle to the side of the road using a push bar. The contact stated that the steering wheel had seized. The vehicle was restarted, and the message “Transmission Fault - Service Immediately” was displayed, followed by the check engine warning light becoming illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000. The VIN was not available.

Vehicle Information: 2015 Ford Escape – approximately 165,000 miles Incident Description: During normal operation while backing out of a parking space, the vehicle unexpectedly slipped out of the drive gear immediately after I shifted from reverse to drive. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms indicating a potential issue. After restarting the vehicle, it briefly engaged drive but was only able to travel approximately ten feet before abruptly shifting through multiple gears without any driver input. During each occurrence, the engine surged to unusually high RPMs despite no acceleration being applied. Safety Concerns: The unintended gear changes were accompanied by loud whining noises, and the vehicle was unable to remain in any gear long enough to be operated safely. This failure left the vehicle immobilized on a main roadway, causing a traffic backup and creating a hazardous situation for myself, my children, and surrounding motorists. Current Vehicle Condition: After the vehicle was towed home, I attempted several restarts. At no time did any warning indicators or a check‑engine light illuminate. Each attempt resulted in the transmission immediately disengaging from gear when shifted into either drive or reverse, accompanied by continued loud whining noises and repeated engine surging to high RPMs without throttle input. The vehicle is currently inoperable. Additional Details: I plan to take the vehicle to Keith Hawthorne Ford for diagnostic evaluation. I am concerned that this failure may be related to a previously repaired transmission recall, as the recall documentation states that the defect may recur and could require additional corrective action. The dealership is currently requiring a diagnostic fee of $199.95 to inspect the vehicle.

Transmission is failing after being rebuilt. Has only 50,000 miles. It stalls if braking hard. Shifts hard and shudders. Has been serviced and checked by a mechanic.

Dec 9, 2025

We had to replace the engine about 4 years ago and we’re still getting gas smell into the cabin. About 3 years ago, we broke down on the road because the transmission quit. All our repairs have been done through Ford service department. We are now broke down again because of the transmission. Something has to be done with the Ford Escape!

I purchased this vehicle $9000 cash from Toyota Morgan City in Morgan City Louisiana the end of September 2025 on a Saturday, not even a week later the car shifts real hard and it’s an automatic. You can see the rpm going up but the car steaks and then shifts hard to where it jerks. I called the car dealership where I purchased, they “looked” at the car and told me that it was not a problem they could fix because it was the transmission that Ford put in the cars. And proceeded to tell me that they were sorry that I need a new transmission but that’s not there problem and for me to take it to a Ford dealership even though I purchased from them. Why is this not a recall if you’re putting faulty transmissions in?

Nov 5, 2025

Purchased my 2015 escape in Aug. of 2023 used knowing that the head gaskets needed to be replaced. Took it to a certified mechanic and had everything fixed on it. Fast forward to October of 2024 - Transmission went out had to purchase a brand new transmission had it installed at the certified mechanic. Then in July of 2025 all of the sudden it overheated. Took it back to the same mechanic and once again the head gaskets are blown. They stated that coolant had leaked into the motor and now it all needs replaced. How is this not a recall yet with everything that I have been reading. A recall has been issued for a back up camera but not this. We have been driving without back up cameras forever but we cannot drive a vehicle when every few months we need to dump thousands of dollars in it.

Been having shifting problems since I got the vehicle at a dealership, the car will hang onto the rpm’s for a couple seconds then slam into gear, mostly while shifting up. Had the recall taken care of for the bushing a shifter cable problem, the hanging and slamming shifting issue still persists. Took the car to a Ford dealership and was told that my clutch is disintegrating and that an entire new transmission was needing, quoting me at LEAST $5000. Now I don’t know about yall, but I don’t have that type of money to just throw away into a car. If the car was designed and released to the public with a crappy transmission and known to be a problem, then Ford Motor Company needs to no longer exist.

The car won’t shift into the intended gear. The car stalls as well. The transmission fault service now light is on.

The transmission has failed and fuel propulsion. While driving on the highway with no warning it slowed down considerably, which almost caused me to be rear-ended. Yes, it's even inspected. No warning lamps. PLEASE CHECK, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF 2015 FORD ESCAPES WITH FAULTY TRANS AND FUEL PROPULSION ISSUES.

While driving, the car hesitates changing gears. Sometimes the car will not go in gear or go into Park. Had a recall in 2022 for some bushings and cable shifter. The car is too dangerous to drive and mechanics have stated a new transmission is needed.

Aug 22, 2025

While driving recently, my vehicle unexpectedly lost all forward acceleration. Soon after, I discovered that when placed in Park, the vehicle could still roll freely — a dangerous condition that could lead to an accident or injury. Initially, the car was able to move in both Drive and Reverse for a short time, but it quickly deteriorated to only reversing, and then the Park function failed to hold the vehicle altogether. I have maintained my Escape according to Ford’s recommendations and have records available. There were no warning lights, no unusual noises beforehand, and no indication that such a failure was imminent. This is not just a mechanical failure but a significant safety hazard, as loss of acceleration and loss of Park lock can put drivers, passengers, and bystanders at risk.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started and shifted into drive(D), the vehicle failed to move forward. The contact stated that the shift indicator indicated that the transmission was not in drive(D). The contact shifted the gear lever however, the vehicle failed to respond while shifted into drive(D), reverse(R), or neutral. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that her husband checked under the hood and became aware that the shifter cable was loose and applied pressure, and the contact was able to shift into drive(D) and drove the vehicle back to the residence. The contact arrived at the residence and attempted to shift to park(P), however the transmission failed to engage as intended. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

My 2015 Ford Escape, VIN [XXX], equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine, has experienced a repeat engine failure due to what appears to be the known “coolant intrusion” defect currently under active litigation (Miller v. Ford). The original engine failed due to loss of coolant into the cylinders, causing rough idle, misfires, abnormal engine noise, and loss of performance. Ford replaced the entire engine under warranty approximately 24.5 months ago. The replacement engine is now exhibiting the same symptoms, including: Rough/unstable idle, especially on startup Abnormally loud engine noise Suspected internal coolant loss with no visible external leaks Reduced performance and hesitation This is the second major engine failure in a short time, creating a serious safety concern due to potential sudden loss of power while driving. The EcoBoost coolant intrusion defect is widely reported in Ford Escapes from this model year and is the subject of a class action lawsuit. Ford has not issued a recall for all affected vehicles, leaving owners at risk of repeated engine failures. I am submitting this complaint to document the repeat failure, as it poses a risk to safe operation and may affect other vehicles on the road. I can provide repair records, photos, and video evidence upon request. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The shift cable bushing on my 2015 Ford Escape failed, causing the gear shifter to appear in "Park" when the transmission was actually in a different gear. This posed a significant safety risk, as the vehicle could roll unexpectedly. The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by a certified Ford dealership. They stated the failure was due to a coolant hose leak affecting the bushing, but this seems questionable since this exact bushing has been recalled previously for premature degradation (Ford recalls 18S20 and 22S25). I experienced the same symptoms reported in the recall: gear position not matching the shifter, difficulty engaging Park, and the potential for the car to roll. There were no warning lights or messages before the failure. I had to pay for the repair out of pocket, even though this appears to be the same defect covered in the recall. The part is no longer available for inspection, as it was replaced during the repair.

Vehicle overeheated and stalled. Engine light came on. Had it to garage who told me call Ford because vehicle needed a new engine. Got a second opinion a few months later, and they confirmed that coolant was leaking in to the spark plug cylinders. And yes it needed a new engine. Prior: At 80000 miles the transmission needed replaced.I was told that my my car was notorious for needing transmissions and engines.

Driving home from work vehicle would not move forward. Had towed to Ford dealership. Told transmission was over heating, requiring a new transmission at a cost $7,400. Purchased the vehicle one year ago from an auto dealership. Was told by the Ford dealership that they see a lot of this happening to this vehicle type.

On 14 May 2025 at approximately 11:45 am I went to drive my Ford Escape to Metro Ford for routine engine service. I started the Ford and proceeded to drive away. A few minutes later as I was driving down a two lane major highway I began to accelerate the Ford when I noticed RPMs going up but transmission was not engaged. I shifted into neutral and back to drive. Still nothing. I tried using manual shift buttons, nothing. I was on a busy high speed road and could not accelerate. I had enough momentum to pull off on a driveway area. I tried shifting ford into park and drive and when going to drive nothing happened. I turned the car off. Waited a few minutes and the Ford finally engaged into reverse. I was able to get back to my house by getting enough momentum to coast down to my driveway. The transmission completely stopped working. This is a serious failure that I had no indication it was failing. Had my niece or her kids was in the car they could have been injured due to the vehicle stalling on a major road or in an intersection or even in a train track. So many potential life threatening possibilities. I towed the Ford to Metro Ford. Ford only quoted me options for repair. I advised them if they had no other concerns then I would report the extremely dangerous situation that should have already been recalled. Ford metro noted they pulled transmission fluid and determined there transmission is bad. I had no warning from the computer this was a potential failure. I could have been killed had I not been able to figure out how to get out of the road. This transmission failure, according to Ford is common. If so, it’s a safety hazard. I am parking the Ford and I’m willing to let anyone inspect it so they can see the failure prior to any repairs. I maintain the Ford and rely on it. I want all Ford Escape owners to know this Hazardous safety issue. Someone is going to get killed if not already has been.

TWO THINGS: Transmission failed, as it frequently does, in this car at around 90K. Shop said it's a known flaw and Ford said sorry, despite having pointed related issues out to our dealer several times. Replaced at tranny shop to the tune of $7K+. Less than a year later, the engine failed due to known structural flaw with cylinders where coolant intrudes. Engine completely shot - dealer said sorry pay us $13K to replace it. Both these things have been parts of class-action lawsuits. Please remedy. Thank you.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission failed in 2018 whilst it was still under warranty and a local Ford dealer fixed it under warranty. In 2023 the trans totally failed. Yes it is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was driving on an expressway at the time it happened which was terrifying but also put me, my passenger, and other drivers at risk as I tried to pull it over to the side. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, it was confirmed by the warning message displayed on my vehicle's screen. It was confirmed by Roy O'Brien Ford in 2018, Shores Care Care Center in 2018 & 2023. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No; the failure came totally out of the blue. The first warning indicator displayed after the transmission totally failed.

Vehicle Information Make: Ford Model: Escape Model Year: 2015 Component: Power Train (Transmission) Date of Incident (approximate): 2021 (first signs) — Ongoing I purchased my 2015 Ford Escape new in 2015. Around 2021, I began experiencing intermittent stalling issues. If I ran errands and made multiple short trips, the vehicle would sometimes stall after restarting, especially on the second or third trip. If I allowed the car to rest between trips, the problem would occasionally not occur. I reported the issue to Briarwood Ford multiple times. Each time, they told me they couldn't replicate the problem and, since the check engine light wasn’t on, there was "no issue." Eventually, the check engine light did activate. Briarwood Ford then replaced an airflow valve, kept the car for a few days, but again said they couldn’t replicate the stalling. Shortly after that, following a standard oil change, the transmission failed completely. I contacted several dealerships before having the vehicle towed to Hillsdale Ford. They took approximately four weeks to replace the transmission, which cost me $7,000 out of pocket. Even after the transmission replacement, the car continued to drive poorly. It began accelerating inconsistently, sometimes surging or hesitating, and I noticed a burning smell. I informed the dealer, and they said there was a recall involving a brushless component, which they replaced. However, they said they couldn't detect any burning odor. Now, three years later, the vehicle still doesn’t accelerate smoothly. It’s overly sensitive to throttle input and sometimes seems to hesitate or get stuck when trying to accelerate. I am concerned that this ongoing issue is part of a larger safety problem related to the transmission or powertrain that Ford has not addressed properly

My transmission is failing and needs replaced at only 81K miles. This is a closed transmission (no dipstick) to check fluid levels or quality. The owner’s manual states it doesn’t need transmission fluid replacement for 150K miles. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to the time I had the transmission checked. This could cause problems if the transmission fails completely while being driven.

The problems on my 2015 Ford Escape are related to the last recall, NHTSA Recall 22V413/Safety Recall Notice 22S43. On 02/21/2025, I had stopped by a Traffic Stop Light Signal. When I tried to proceed after the lights turned green, my car would not move forward and would behave like it was in Neutral mode making a lot of noise. I called Ford Motor Company and asked for remedy, and I was told the previous recall has already expired and that there is nothing that they can do now. I got my car towed to a Ford Dealership and they have sent me a cost estimate of over $8,000.00 to get the issue fixed. I am wondering if NHTSA can make Ford Motor Company do the necessary repairs on my Ford Escape, since this problem is related to the last recall. Thank you.

While driving my 2015 Ford Escape at a speed of 35MPG and stopped at a stop sign, proceeded to turn left and car would not move. It seems to coast backward as if transmission was in neutral. I coasted back into a parking lot and turned off vehicle. I then restarted it and it started just fine with no warning lights. I then tried to put into gear and the RPMs went up and still felt like it was in neutral. I then had it towed to a mechanic and was told that it was a total transmission failure. 5500.00 to have repair. More than what the car's book value it. I have not reported to manufacturer but that is my next step.

We bought this car used from the Ford dealership in Ellensburg WA in 2021. It had 79k at the time. We performed a lot of maintenance on the vehicle; new tires, alignment, coolant flush, transmission flush, spark plugs, and updated the Synce software. Then the turbo failed about 5 months later. And we replaced the turbo with a brand new one at the same dealership for 5k. Then we replaced the coolant system. We performed all the recalls as they came in, regarding the transmission shifter and something to do with a solenoid, and we never missed an oil change. In September 2024 the transmission failed and it needs a whole new one. There's a class action lawsuit in CA for the type of transmission in this year of Ford Escape, but it's only for CA residents. Too bad. It's been less than 3 years since we bought it, we've paid twice the price it's worth in repairs and on maintenance, and now it's junk. DON'T BUY AN ESCAPE!

At 120k the transmission went bad. Dealership charged $7k to replace. We chose to replace because it was cheaper than buying a new vehicle. A few months after the transmission was repaired, we started losing a lot of coolant. The dreaded coolant leak through the head gasket into cylinder 2 is the diagnosis. Dealer, told us $12k for a new motor. This is not okay!!!

My daughter borrowed my car and experienced a loud rattling noise. We had it towed to our local shop who recommended bringing it to a Ford Dealership for the issue. We had it towed there and I was informed after they looked at it that we had a cracked flex plate. It horrifies what could have happened while she was in the car. There was a check engine light on, but that was not connected to this issue apparently because I had to pay an additional cost to get that fixed. I have never heard of a cracked flex plate but when I googled it I found Ford had several recalls for it, but not attached to my VIN

MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE SE HAS A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT EXCEED 5 MPH. THE INTERSTATE WAS BUSY AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY 3 DIFFERENT VEHICLES SWERVING TO GO AROUND ME UNTIL I COULD FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND THEY CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. REPAIR ESTIMATE $5000.

I have 2 ford escapes, a 2015 (referenced in this complaint) and a 2016. Both have experienced catastrophic transmission failure within weeks of each other. The transmission would slip, shudder and eventually disable and indicate service is needed. This happened while traveling highway speeds and the vehicle became disabled on the highway. As it was sudden, there was not time to get it safely off of the road and presented hazards to me and other drives until a tow truck could be engaged.

The Transmission has failed and is available for inspection. I was concerned for my safety because one minute the car would move and then it was as if I lost all power and then boom it would throw it's self in gear and take off with no throttle response when you touched the pedal. No the vehicle has not been inspected by anyone listed above. There were no other problems or warnings before this took place the only time I got a warning was a day later when I went to go load the car up on the trailer to take it to my mechanic. The issue occurred on 04-25-2024.

Ford has not fixed the recall or offered a solution resulting in our car's transmission shift cable breaking while my wife was driving, resulting in her being STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET blocking traffic. The car was stuck in the middle of the street blocking traffic and buses for about an hour until a tow truck could come. We could not shift the vehicle out of park - the shifter moved freely forward and back, while depressing the shift button, but without *actually* shifting to neutral, drive, or reverse. We could not move the car at all, despite pushing or trying to shift it. This occurred in front of our home on Friday, April 19th, 2024. A tow truck towed the vehicle to our local repair shop where they identified the broken transmission shift cable and repaired it which we paid out of pocket. This could have occurred anywhere or in a dangerous intersection with the potential to cause harm to her, others, or any of her passengers like our infant son. I was notified of this recall in 2022 by a Ford dealership and have yet to see a resolution. My concern is now that the replacement Ford transmission shift cable will exhibit the same problem as before unless they make a better cable or mechanism! This also cost us over 5 hours of labor equaling $546 + parts, which we should not have to pay for. Ford should cover this cost completely and give us a reliable transmission shift cable.

My cluster panel went dead and there was a recall for it but the first owner got it fixed and ford wouldn’t do it for me. I couldn’t afford to get it fixed and so it stayed dead. My car eventually broke down on me while driving because I was unable to read the transmission fault warning (because the cluster panel doesn’t work). I just had to buy a whole new transmission and ford is still refusing to fix their failed recall. Had it been taken care of, I would have seen the warning and not drove my car until it broke down.

I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO CHANGED THE PART SINCE MY CAR HAD NOT HAD ANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS. THEY COME TO WHERE I WAS AND BEGAN DRIVING MY CAR AT 4000RPM OR ABOVE FOR SEVERAL MILES AND SHIFTING THROUGH GEARS MANUALLY. ONCE THE CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE HE PULLED INTO A CHURCH AND HAD IT TOWED STATING I NEED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION WORK AND IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE DASH EVEN WHEN HE PUT A COMPUTER TO IT HE SEEN THAT IT HAD NO CODES IN IT AT ALL. I drove at 60 MPH during rush hour on a very crowded highway. I tried to accelerate, but I was losing speed. My RPM was working, but I was not accelerating. I took my foot off the accelerator and tried again, and then the car accelerated briefly (without continuous pressure--it accelerated without me--- and again lost power. I had nowhere to stop. I got off at a ramp one mile away, coasting at 17 MPH. The "Transmission Fault" warning appeared as we entered a gas station. $190.00 tow bill. Our mechanic of 18 years diagnosed total transmission failure. My car has been well cared for, with recommended check-ups/oil changes. There were zero warning signs of trouble. The mechanic recommended this car be evaluated by a Ford dealership. The approximate cost from the Ford dealership is $6000.00. This was a VERY very dangerous situation with children in the car in rush hour traffic on a highway. I have 91,163 miles on the car with a total transmission failure.

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my vehicle lurched forward despite me depressing the brakes then would not shift into any gear or move at all. I turned the vehicle off waited 10 minutes and attempted to restart the vehicle so that I could move into a safer area out of traffic. The vehicle began shaking and would not go into gear but did roll enough that I was able to move out of the way of incoming traffic. There were no warning lights displayed on the dash and the vehicle was not malfunctioning prior to the event. The other issue has been that the backup camera repeatedly fails to function at all. Instead the screen is either blue or black and no images are visible.

I have coolant leaking into cylinder 4 of my 1.6L engine. I’m constantly having to refill my coolant tank because the coolant is getting burned up when it leaks into my engine which in turn produces big white clouds of smoke from my exhaust pipe. It is available for inspection. I’m constantly worried for my safety because my car could potentially overheat and lead to a fire if my coolant is going elsewhere other than its designated place. My car has been to numerous mechanics in order to figure out the issue and has recently been confirmed on [XXX] by Dave Knapp Ford located in Greenville, Ohio that there is coolant leaking into cylinder 4. My car has not been inspected by any other higher ups. My engine light has not been working since the day we bought the car in August of 2023 for reasons we do not know of, so we were not instantly notified that there was an issue with the engine. The symptoms we did notice were loss of coolant almost everyday even after filling up, no visible puddles of coolant on the ground, white smoke from exhaust, a burning smell, bubbling in coolant tank, violent shaking of entire car, car dying after starting engine, and very low rpm when in idle. These symptoms really became visible at the start of November of 2023 and have gotten worse since then to the point where my car barely wants to start. I am writing to bring to your attention a critical safety issue I recently encountered with my 2015 Ford Escape. I am deeply concerned about the lack of response and accountability from Ford regarding this matter, and I kindly request your assistance in addressing this potentially life-threatening problem. During a recent incident, my vehicle's power steering suddenly failed, rendering the car extremely difficult to maneuver. The lack of power steering made it nearly impossible for me to maintain a straight line, let alone perform any evasive maneuvers to avoid potential hazards on the road. Fortunately, this incident occurred in a drive-thru, and my children were not present in the vehicle at the time. I dread to think of the consequences if this failure had happened while driving at higher speeds or in a more critical situation. Upon taking my car to the Ford dealership for inspection and repair, I was shocked to learn that the power steering issue is not covered under my warranty. The dealership informed me that because my vehicle has exceeded 60,000 miles and is now over four years old, it falls outside the warranty coverage. I find it deeply troubling that Ford refuses to acknowledge the obvious flaw in the design of the car's power steering system, especially when comparable Ford models such as the 2011-2013 Fusion have been recalled for the exact same issue. As a loyal Ford customer, I implore you to thoroughly investigate and address this widespread problem, not only for my own sake but also for the safety and well-being of countless other Ford owners who may be facing similar risks. This dangerous design flaw poses a significant threat to drivers and their passengers, and it is utterly irresponsible for Ford to shirk responsibility and shift the financial burden onto the customers.

We were driving our Ford Escape when the RPMs shot up, and our car would no longer accelerate. The transmission is whirring, and we are unable to operate the vehicle safely. It keeps losing the ability to accelerate and move forward. This comes only a year or so after we had the recall for the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission.

Aug 25, 2023

After transmission shifter cable brushing repair I Received a transmission error warning on my car . Car is now going in reverse while in driving almost got into car accident with my kids in car. I believe there is a transmission problem with these model vehicle. Local shop unable to diagnose properly. Unable to drive.

Aug 20, 2023

The vehicle started and appeared to be working properly. Without warning, the message center displayed a message indicating that the automatic transmission had failed and advising the driver to pull over. Pressing the accelerator caused the engine to rev past 3000 RPM but did not cause the vehicle to move. After the engine had been shut off for a few minutes, the vehicle could be restarted but would only move a short distance before the transmission once again failed to engage. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealer on a flatbed. The service department's inspection revealed that the torque converter had failed catastrophically and distributed metal shavings through the entire transmission hydraulic system. The service advisor noted that the transmission filter was clogged with metal fragments from the torque converter. She suggested that turning the engine off allowed enough fragments to drop out of the filter so that a small amount of fluid could get through -- enough to move the vehicle a very short distance before the problem repeated. The recommended repair is to replace the transmission and torque converter with remanufactured parts, flush the cooler and lines, install a new thermal switch, and fill the system with fresh fluid. The vehicle, with the defective transmission installed, is at the dealer awaiting parts. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or an insurance carrier; the only inspection was performed by dealer personnel as part of the trouble diagnosis. If this sudden failure had occurred on a freeway or major surface street instead of a side street with light traffic, it would probably have triggered a rear-end collision involving the Ford Escape and one or more vehicles behind it when the Escape abruptly lost drive and coasted down. The potential for injury in such an accident should be self-evident.

Aug 3, 2023 Crash

However, since the first day of having, there was a hesitation and sputtering which I was told was due to the fuel line. The dealer fixed that but than washed there hands of us. Transmission has had issues since purchasing the vehicle 5 years ago. Upon acceleration, car jerks forward. Transmission recall for bushing came out in January 2023. In April, my car got stuck in reverse and would not change gears due to the recalled transmission part. In May, my transmission went bad while driving, and I could not change gears or accelerate speeds due to a faulty transmission. I believe that the recall is associated with my mechanical failure of my transmission.

At approximately 85,000 miles, the vehicle started experiencing issues where pressing the gas pedal would not make the vehicle move. It was intermittent, and luckily I was near my home and able to get it into the garage. If I had been on a main road at the time, I likely would have been hit, injured and/or killed. I was confident it was a transmission problem because I had the same thing happen on a 2014 Ford Escape in 2022. That vehicle had about 135,000 at the time. Ford case number - [XXX] I was driving down the highway to attend my daughter's college graduation when I noticed that the vehicle wasn't moving when accelerating; it got worse as I again tried to accelerate and the engine was revving and RPM dial was increasing but car would not move. Then the car jumped and sputtered. As I was exiting the highway the Transmission Failure light came on. There was no warning to this event. Once I got the car off the highway and assessing the situation, we decided to try and start the car to see if it would drive and while the car did start, it would not move in drive or reverse. The car was towed to Columbia MO so I could attend the graduation and is being serviced by a transmission expert there. He confirmed that it needs to be rebuilt. This same repair shop has said they have serviced close to 60 Ford Escapes for transmission in the last 18 months. Another Ford dealer said its a known issue for these transmissions to fail. My car doesn't even have 100k miles on it. The danger and risk of this happening on an interstate is pretty obvious; the cars behind me had no idea my transmission was failing (heck, I didn't know it either) and that I was struggling to accelerate. We could have easily been hit by any car or semi that was travelling down that same highway - it was extremely scary. It is crazy to think of the number of Ford Escapes in the nation that are failing when a small town in Missouri has serviced 60 in less that two years! I hope that people are reporting this and that you have a way to investigate to determine the manufacturer liable for these very dangerous and expensive failures! https://www.cars.com/articles/2013-2015-ford-escape-fiesta-st-fusion-transit-connect-recall-alert-1420694733115/ While driving 80 miles an hour on an 8 lane freeway, with the flow of high traffic-including semi commercial traffic, and my child in the car, the vehicle went into limp mode due to an overheat warning. I was unable to accelerate and was able to "limp" to the side of the road. Very scary and VERY dangerous. My child and I are lucky something worse did not happen. Root cause lack of coolant circulation resulting in the engine overheating. This possibly has caused a crack in the cylinder head, resulting in a pressurized oil leak that, in the presence of a heat source such as a hot engine surface, increases the risk of an under-hood fire. Through research, I found this is a known issue with my vehicle and besides a limited recall (of which my VIN is excluded) there is a class action pending in California. I contact FORD customer service and its answer was my VIN isn't included in the recall so nothing they could do. When I brought up on FORD's knowledge and request for someone in its escalation team to call me, they said a supervisor would call and the customer service supervisor said- my issue because my VIN not included in the recall. There have been 30+ cases of engine fires related to this issue and hundreds if not thousands of FORD owners affected. How is the NHTSA not taking action? This is very dangerous and a very expensive cost to consumers who were misled by FORD to purchase these dangerous lemons. This is a dangerous defect that FORD has known about for years. NHTSA should require FORD to recall these for the safety of children and consumers. https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCOURTS-caed-2_21-cv-00468/pdf/USCOURTS-caed-2_21-cv-00468-0.pdf https://www.change.org/p/hold-ford-accountable-for-fixing-their-ecoboost-engines https://www.lieffcabraser.com/2021/05/ford-ecoboost-engine-defect-lawsuits-consolidated-in-california/

While driving on rural roads (30-45mph) the vehicle had a sudden loss in power, as though the transmission was slipping. The problem went away as suddenly as its onset, but approximately a week later, a warning 'Transmission Failure, Service Now.' appeared and the vehicle immediately went into limp mode, and would not shift into higher gears. AAA was called to tow the vehicle to the dealer for service. The Ford dealer received the vehicle and reported that the clutch plates had failed. This vehicle had the original transmission fail at 65,000 miles. Ford refused to pay for any parts or labor, as the car was out-of-warranty (by 5000 miles). Customer payed out-of-pocket for diagnosis, parts, and labor to install a new transmission ($5820.86). The second failure noted above occurred at 81,000 miles (only 15,000 miles / 18 months on the new transmission) and was covered under the warranty of the prior transmission.

I bought my car at in 2015 brand new , it’s currently undriveable due to it being diagnosed with full transmission failure. My car has had a recall on it for 3 years and was advised not to take it in due to unavailability of parts (transmission related recall) due to unavailability of recalled parts the condition has degraded the transmission to the point of complete failure. In the ford dealership there are 108 of these same transmissions on back order, clearly there’s an issue with them. The assistance that they advised of is expediting the transmission getting to the dealership which honestly seems like a slap in the face, this isn’t an issue that I should be having with a 7 year old car. I should be enjoying the fact that it was paid off, not frantically looking to buy a new car. This isn’t my fault and I shouldn’t be financially responsible for inferior parts. Ford dealership will tell me that I have full transmission failure they would never admit it was due to unavailability of parts or an inferior problem of having an small eco boost engine that pumps air and oil into the transmission

Ford Escape had a history of transmission issues prior to the 2015 vehicle I purchased used in Feb 2018. I was told the rough shifting and vehicle skipping (which started gradually the winter of 2021/2022) can be a hardware, software, shutter or torque problem. Even though there are class actions suits to resolve the software and hardware problems, Ford has not provided any assistance, instead expecting me to replace the transmission at my expense quoting the highest repair price despite not having an actual diagnostic which they also expect me to pay $169.00 for.

While driving on a multi-lane road going 60mph the Transmission Fault Service Now warning popped up on my dash. Within a minute after I could feel the transmission moving into neutral, causing the RPMs to go very high, then the card would buck violently and it would go back into drive allowing me to continue to try to drive it to safety. This happened 3 or so more times as I had to stop at a traffic light with my hazards and I was unable to get the car to move forward again until the transmission slipped back into gear and I was narrowly able to get off the main road before it completely stopped working. My parking brake had to be engaged to stay still.

We have paid over 6k to replace these parts. Only to be told the car needed a new PCM computer to run. We took the car to Thoroughbred Ford in Kansas City to replace the PCM, which the part itself cost us 1k. Ford replaced the PCM and the car still didn't work after more than one diagnostic test and another associated testing, they told us it wasn't a PCM problem at all, that in fact, the engine needs to be replaced. Meanwhile, Ford wants to charge us $2300, for a car that is known for having Ecoboost issues.

My Vehicle had no issues prior to the date of 6/02/2022. On this date I was driving in a large city when my transmission kept switching gears by itself slipping. Eventually my transmission went out in whole. It was towed day of and was told that my transmission needed to be replaced fully. I had checked online to make sure no recalls were on my vehicle at that time. This happened to be false information. On 7/15/22 after 6 weeks of being in the shop I received my vehicle back. It is now 7/20/22 and I have received a recall in the mail for my transmission. I have done my research and am I aware that there is compensation involved in the incident that happened with my vehicle. I should have been told 60 days ago that there was a recall before such incident happened like I should have been. I will have a lawyer involved if no contact is made. I have gone through too much stress and turmoil to not have my case filed and looked at.

Called the dealer on 7/13/2022 about NHTSA Safety Recall 22V254 and was told parts are on a national back order and only if vehicle failed or malfunctioned would the parts be sent to dealer so vehicle can be repaired. Dealer stated parts could not be obtained otherwise. Tried to call Ford on 7/13/2022 and was unable to get an answer. This in not acceptable.

While driving, the vehicle’s transmission starting coming out of gear, then lose of power, go back into gear for a moment, then go out of gear causing coasting and lose maneuverability. After being shut down immediately and towed to a mechanic, diagnostic is transmission out for some reason and misfires in two cylinders. Vehicle has less than 80K miles. Can’t really tell as the digital screen also went out. Vehicle has had regular service by a Ford dealership.

Transmission failure. I took the vehicle into a local Ford dealer for a recall on the shifter cable bushing and days later I experienced transmission failure for the first time, while driving. I returned to the dealer to have this checked and they insisted there was no issue with the cable bushing but the problem was inside the transmission. I decided to research issues with the transmission of these vehicles and I have found testimonies of hundreds of people online who have experienced the exact same issue with Ford Escapes of multiple years and the transmissions failing in the midst of driving, putting them in dangerous situations. Others claim to have contacted Ford and they are unwilling to do anything to fix this. I have tried to contact Ford myself and experienced the same response. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed before serious accidents are caused if they have not been already. Unable to upload an image of the recent service note on this form, not working for some reason.

Though the vehicle indicated that it was in park, both by the VIC and the shift being all the way in the forward position, the vehicle was still rolling after my daughter turned the vehicle off. This incident nearly caused my 16 year old daughter to hit a fence. It caused her to fear driving for a period of time. I had to have the vehicle towed to Jimmy Granger Ford in Stonewall, Louisiana to have it repaired. They informed me that the vehicle required the transmission cable assembly to be replaced, part number; CJ5Z-7E395-A. The total cost of the repair was, $1075.94. This issue is eerily similar to the issues that are in the recalls of earlier model Ford Escapes and Manufacturer Recall Number 22S43.

The vehicle is showing that it is in Neutral, indicated in the VIC. However, the shifter is all the way up in the park position. Being in neutral, this allowed my daughter to start the vehicle, as soon as it was started, she took her foot off of the break and she rolled her 2015 Ford Escape into our home fence. Now she is terrified. This seems very similar to the 2013-2014 recall. When I checked this vehicles VIN, no recalls are showing required due. Dangerous!

On 12/29/2020, Angela was driving the 2015 Ford Escape with Mileage at 133926 in Beverly WV on the main street of 219/250 and the Escape suddenly lost power and slowed down to 30mph and the vehicle shuddered and shook. It picked up speed again for about 30 seconds and then lost power again, this continued for about 2 minutes and then the Escape stopped moving in the middle of the highway in front of the Elementary School and the dash stated “Transmission Fault/Service Now” and Angela was suddenly stranded on the busy highway. Her husband Johnie drove his truck to the area where the Escape was setting and engine was still running but had no power to move. He turned the ignition off and restarted the Escape, the message was gone and vehicle ran and moved fine for about 30 seconds and then did the same actions again with shuddering , shaking, lose of power and “Transmission Fault/Service Now” on the dash. The vehicle had to be towed to Elkins Fordland, Inc in Elkins WV. On 12/30/2020 Elkins Fordland ran the diagnostic on the Escape at the cost of $111.30, they observed transmission pump making whinning noise and vehicle wouldn’t move, recommended new transmission per code (See attached documents and Bills for diagnostic test and replacement of transmission). On 01/01/2021 to 01/15/2021 Elkins Fordland, Inc had the Escape for transmission replacement. The cost to replace the transmission in the 2015 Ford Escape at Mileage 133926 was $5294.10 after tax. This is a Safety Issue due to the no warning of Transmission Fault and the sudden loss of power in the busy highway. The total cost of diagnostic test and replacement of the transmission was; $111.30 diagnostic $5,294.10 transmission Total Cost $5405.40 I have attached copies of the diagnostic and replacement paperwork.

My wife was driving the vehicle and without warning, the vehicle lost power to the drivetrain. Engine was running fine without issue but upon pressing the accelerator, the engine revved but no movement. No warning or noise from the transmission of a pending issue. Proper regular maintenance has been done on the vehicle since ownership on time. Vehicle had to be towed to a repair shop at which time it was diagnosed with failure of the transmission. My wife does a lot of highway driving so luckily it happened in the city close to home and not on the expressway.

The transmission shift cable fell off the transmission shift lever in the engine compartment. The plastic bushing that holds the shift cable in place is worn out or defective. Ford has a replacement part (#DG9Z-7K340-A) and a new cover cap to protect the bushing now. Wondering why this is not a safety recall. The linkage fell off while my wife was parking the vehicle in sub-zero weather. She had the shifter in park, but the vehicle was actually in neutral or reverse. The vehicles engine could be started or stopped, would not drive, but could roll. Luckily it was on level ground when it happened. Ford has the same problem on earlier year models but not on our model year. The Ford dealer told me that there were no recalls or TSBs for my VIN model.

All the lighting system is Ok, even the radio is working. - According to the mechanic, the issue is new one and not has been seen before.

Was driving down the road and the car started to sputter and shake. Was able to pull into a gas station parking lot and when I stepped on the gas nothing happened and the transmission fault light kicked on. Got parked and called a tow company to tow it to the nearest transmission shop to which they told me the transmission is shot and needs replaced.

Nov 18, 2021

On 11-8-2021, my transmission failed out of nowhere, there were no warning lights or noises or check engine codes or anything. When I backed out at work the vehicle shook a little and when I pulled out on to the road it hit second gear kind of hard. When I got close to the stop sign it just shut off. I started it back up and when I put it in drive it shut off again. It did this 3 times before I could get it off the road. I had it towed home and started it up and attempted to put it in gear again it shook hard and shut off again. The last drivability/performance check was 6/18/2020 at 112,560 miles done by Summerville Ford. My vehicle is available upon request for inspection. Mine and others safety was put at risk by the vehicle not working properly, on a very busy highway. Although there was not a crash, there very well could have been. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center nor has it been inspected by anyone other then my husband and myself. The problem first appeared that afternoon, I have only owned the vehicle since May 2021, I haven't even gotten to my first oil change. I bought it from Berkeley Ford in Moncks Corner SC.

Nov 14, 2021

There was a recall for 203-2014 Ford Escapes (18S20) for the bushing on the shifter cable breaking and requiring repair. However our vehicle is a 2015 Escape and we were told it was not covered by the recall although we experienced a similar issue. Upon putting the vehicle in reverse the gearbox stuck in reverse and was not able to shift to neutral, drive, or any other gear. Since the vehicle was stuck in gear and not able to move until the tow truck arrived it put others at risk. We had the car towed to Merrill Ford in Okemos Michigan where they confirmed the bushing failed however due to Ford's protocol they had to replace the entire shifter cable at an estimated price of $950. I did some investigation and found another cable and requested the dealer remove the bushing from the new cable and install it on the vehicle. I could have purchased just the bushing however the dealership advised against it. In addition, the shifter cable was not available for approximately another week since 1,400 were on backorder which makes me believe this is a bigger problem than just our vehicle. There were no prior warnings to the bushing failure. Although the dealership knew there was an alternative solution of only replacing the bushing they originally refused to do it. I find this practice of not replacing the failed part (bushing) negligent and trying to create more revenue for Ford and the dealership.

Sep 14, 2021

In April 2021 I was stranded due to the degradation of the bushings on a cable connected to the transmission. The car was repaired. However, now in September 2021, a “transmission fault service now” error popped up while I was on the way to work. The diagnostics have come in and Ford is telling me I need an entirely new transmission. The car has less than 93K miles and should not be having a transmission issue, especially when a majority of the miles driven were freeway miles. Ford has quoted a repair cost of $6600, but I find it hard to believe that the incident in April is unrelated to the transmission failure today.

Sep 13, 2021

At approximately 100,000 miles, the transmission blew out while my son was driving the vehicle on a bridge of a freeway. The engine, sputtered, locked up, would not stay in drive and died. He had to maneuver to safety in the middle of the road on a dangerous bridge. We had the transmission supposedly replaced at Future Ford of Concord. This repair took close to three weeks. Upon return of the car, the same thing happened again. We returned the car to the dealer. It stayed for another four weeks while they ran diagnostics, and supposedly fixed the car. Not more than 100 miles later the car experienced the same thing as the original incident. My son was once again on the freeway, the car lost all power, the transmission light went on and the car is again currently at Future Ford of Concord. Cars should not have transmission problems such as this with only 100,000 miles. And, if the problem was fixed, then we should not have had to take the car back two additional times for the same thing. I believe there exists a significant problem with the transmission of this 2015 Ford EXCAPE.

Sep 8, 2021

The bushing in the shifter cable fell out or somehow was no longer attached and could not be located. This prevented the vehicle from going into any gear and stranded me until the repairs could be made.

Sep 7, 2021

Earlier this year my car began shaking while I was driving it and when it was time for me to park, I couldn't move my shifter. I had to use the emergency break to keep my car in place. I noticed that my shift linkage had eroded and I had to place a temporary one from Auto Zone on there so I could continue driving. Ever since then, my new shift linkage continues to pop off and I am constantly having to use the emergency break to keep my car from going anywhere and placing the temporary shift link back on. I looked up recalls for my vehicle and noticed that other Fords had the same problem and were issued a recall, however, my particular vehicle did not fall under the recall list. There has been no warning signs that come on my dash which is very alarming. The only reason I ever know that the link is about to pop off is because my shifter becomes very loose and wiggles. This incident has happened several times dating back to around April 2021, and the most current time this has happened is today, September 7, 2021.

Sep 2, 2021

Yesterday while driving across a 5 mile long expressway bridge, my car started jerking and the RPMs reved up but I was unable to accelerate. It kept shaking and jerking and barely getting above 30 mph. When I was able to get over to the side, it would no longer move forward. I shut the car off, turned it back on, and it moved forward but I could not re-enter the highway speed traffic. My car was flatbed towed to the closest Ford dealer, who today said the transmission has failed. They quoted me $7000 for a new transmission. My car is a 2015 with 85,000 miles on it. The transmission is no longer under warranty and it gave no indications of beginning to fail before this happened. Having the transmission fail at highway speeds on a 4 lane bridge put my life and the lives of those around me in danger.

Aug 27, 2021

January of last year I was driving on the highway and the car started shaking and jerking, slipping in and out of gear. It eventually reved to 5000 rpm and wouldn't move. Once at the transmission shop they said it would be over 5,000 dollars to get another transmission from the ford dealer. Now about a week ago I was driving on the highway again and the same thing happened this time with my 7 month old in the car leaving us stranded 20mi from home. Both times the transmission light came on after the car became disabled.

Called Ford costumer service and they replied it was out of warranty. I asked to speak with a supervisor and they said I would receive a call back within 24 to 48 hours. That time has passed and I didn't receive a call back.

On 5/22/2021 when I was pulling into the parking space in front of my house my 2015 Ford Escape accelerated on its own, jumping the railroad tie at the edge of the parking lot and on to the front yard – fortunately the car stopped when I applied the break only less than five feet from the front of my house. I put the car in reverse and removed my front from the break and the car accelerated on its own again. I applied the break again and it stopped, thankfully there were no other cars in the parking lot at that time. On 5/24/2021 I called the Ford dealership where I purchased the vehicle, the service advisor said they were not aware of this issue. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership that day as I was concerned that the issue would reoccur ($80.00). The service advisor called on Wednesday and stated there were no codes on the computer related to acceleration but there were codes for the transmission. They were able to overhaul the transmission, $3999.41; there was only 38,384 miles on the vehicle, I have always been a responsible owner and maintained all of my vehicles - I have no doubt this was a defect. I had no other issues with this vehicle prior to that day.

Transmission repair $6875.00 by Covert Ford Hutto. Purchased 08/27/2018 mileage 110047 Transmission repair of $6875.00 reporting hopefully I will be the one who achieve the threshold to get a recall for transmission. Ford is telling me I will get a 3 year warranty and free replacement if it happens again but I am spending $6875.00 hopefully this helps.

AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ABOUT 45-50MPH , IT STARTED TO SPUTTER, THEN THE RPMS SHOT UP AND I COULD'T ACCELERATE, LOST SPEED. MY TRANSMISSION FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND PUT IT IN PARK. I WAS VERY CLOSE TO HOME SO I TRIED TO DRIVE TO MAKE IT HOME AND NOT BE STRANDED A MILE FROM HOME. IT DID IT AGAIN, THEN MY TRANSMISSION FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. IT ALSO WOULDN'T GO INTO REVERSE, IT WOULD JUST REV UP. IT WOULD ONLY GO INTO REVERESE AFTER I PUT IT IN PARK A COUPLE TIMES. IF I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN ON, I COULD GO A FEW FEET BEFORE IT WOULD JUST REV UP AND COULDN'T ACCELERATE. ITS MAKING A LOUD WINING NOISE. I HAD IT TOWED TO LEONARDTOWN FORD.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STARTED WHINING, THEN LOST MOST OF POWER AND SHIFTED BY SELF INTO NEUTRAL GEAR ON TRANSMISSION AND CAME TO COMPLETE STOP (NOT THE INSIDE OF VEHICLE SHIFTER) AND WOULD’T DRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AT THIS TIME. CONTACT THEN PUT VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL VIA SHIFTER AND GAVE VEHICLE SOME GAS AND THEN PUT VEHICLE IN DRIVE POSITION AND SHIFTED HARD WITH A BIG THUMP BUT THEN DROVE FOR FEW MOMENTS WHILE TURNING AT A LIGHT BUT WOULDN’T ENGAGE PAST 1st GEAR. AT THAT TIME THE WARNING LIGHT FINALLY APPEARED AND BEGAN FLASHING FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED BACK INTO NEAUTRAL GEAR AND STOPPED. AGAIN CONTACT PLACED VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL GEAR, GAVE SOME GAS AND PUT BACK INTO DRIVE POSITION AND AGAIN TRANSMISSION SHIFTED WITH ANOTHER THUMP INTO GEAR BUT STILL NOT PAST 1st GEAR. CONTACT WAS WITHIN COUPLE BLOCKS FROM HOME SO SAFELY REPEATING PRIOR STEPS GOT VEHICLE HOME SAFELY. VEHICLE HAD BEEN MAINTAIN AND ALL FLUID LEVELS AND INDICATORS WERE UP TO DATE. CONTACT HAD HER HUSBAND CHECK VEHICLE AND DRAINED AND CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. FLUID WAS CLEAN AND NO FOREIGN PARTICLES OR METAL IN FLUID. TEST DROVE VEHICLE AROUND BLOCK AND WHINING WAS STILL THERE AND THEN WOULD ONLY DRIVE FORWARD AND NOT REVERSE. CONTACT THEN HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO TUTTLE-CLICK FORD LINCOLN (43 AUTO CENTER DR, IRVINE, CA 92618) FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. EVEN THE TOW DRIVER STATED HE HAD JUST RECENTLY TOWED SEVERAL OTHERS DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE. CONTACT WAS TOLD BY FORD DEALERSHIP THAT TRANSMISSION CHECK AND MAINTANENCE IS 120K MILES ON THESE VEHICLES. IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE HALFSHAFT CENTER BEARING COMPLETELY WORN, RETAINER TIGHT BUT SINCE BEARING IS WORN, HALFSHAFT SLIDES OUT OF TRANS. THAT COULD EXPLAIN NO ENGAGEMENT IF HALFSHAFT SLID OUT. TORQUE COULD NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO OTHER AXLE DUE TO TRACTION CONTROL NOT ALLOWING ONE TO SPIN MORE THAN THE OTHER. DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED FIRST REPLACE HALFSHAFT, THEN MAYBE ADDRESS TRANS

WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILL THE VEHICLE WAS REVVING UP TO ALMOST 5RPMS WHILE BREAKING... WAS NOT SHIFTING INTO LOWER GEAR.. PULLED IN TO GET GAS.. WENT TO BACK UP WITH REVERSE.. THEN SHIFTED GEAR INTO DRIVE .. AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN REVERSE... PUSHED THE SHIFTER TO PARK AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVER AND CAR WAS STILL DRIVING IN RESERVE...PUSHED BACK INTO PARK ... SWITCHED SEATS WITH MY HUSBAND ... HE GOT INTO DRIVER SEAT AND THE SHIFTER WAS STUCK IN PARK.. BUT WAS NOT REGISTERING ON DASH BOARD.. ACCORDING TO THE DASHBOARD IT WAS IN REVERSE ... HUSBAND REVERSED THE CAR INTO A PARKING SPOT .. HE KEPT TRYING TO PULL THE SHIFTER TO GO INTO DRIVE... BUT IT WAS LOCKED ON PARK... SO HE MANUALLY WENT IN TO SHIFT THE GEARS AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER MANUALLY ... BUT IT STILL WAS NOT RECOGNIZING IT ON THE DASHBOARD... THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGN ... NO ALERTS ON THE DASH.... WHILE HUSBAND WAS TRYING TO GET THE SHIFTER TO REGISTER ON DASH... ALL LIGHTS ON DASH STARTED FLICKERING... SO THEN WE THOUGHT IT WAS REFERRING TO THE BATTERY... BECAUSE SOON AFTER THERE WAS NO POWERED AT ALL TO THE VEHICLE... BUT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING IN REVERSE.. WE PUT E BRAKE ON CALLED A FRIEND AND HAD HIM JUMP US .. DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ... SO NOW CAR IS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT UNTIL TOMORROW... ALL THIS GOING ON WITH AN INFANT AND 5 YEAR OLD .. IN FREEZING COLD WEATHER... SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THESE FORD ESCAPES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! FOR THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS I AM SEEING ON THIS FEATURE WITH THE 2015.. YOU WOULD THINK SOMETHING WOULD BE DONE... THIS IS DANGEROUS AND. ABSOLUTELY UNCALLED FOR... GET THESE [XXX] CARS OFF THE MARKET! IT FIRST STARTED WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT AND THE GEARS SHIFTED ON THEIR OWN KIND OF FELT LIKE IT JUST CLICKED INTO PLACE. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS FEELING FINE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT 45 MPH AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY RPMS SHOT FROM A 2.5/3 TO A 7RPM RIGHT BACK DOWN TO A 1RPM AND THIS TOOK ME IMMEDIATELY DOWN TO 26MPH THIS TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT AS I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE AND WAS ON A BUSY ROAD. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND PUT MY HAZARDS ON.... I WAS NOT IN A SAFE SPOT SO I DECIDED TO TRY TO DRIVE THE CAR TO A ROAD OFF THE MAIN ROAD WHEN I DID THIS THE CAR WAS NOT EVEN ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE. I SAT THERE HOPING NO ONE HIT ME TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN IT WAS DRIVABLE AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE AS COVID MECHANICS WERE CLOSED FOR THE WEEKEND. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO WAS TRUSTED WHO MENTIONED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH MY CAR DOESNT EVEN HAVE 100,000. I DID NOT HAVE IT FIXED THERE AS I TOOK IT TO FROD NOW TO HAVE A LOOK THEY WANTED ME TO PAY 1400$ TO JUST OPEN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THEY ALREADY KNEW IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THAT THEY STAND BUY THERE RELIABILITY AS THEY MENTION THAT ALL THERE CARS ARE AND EXPLAINED THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I PURCHASED MY CAR HOWEVER, THEIR RELIABILITY HAS FAILED!!! I THEN SAID THEY ALSO MENTION THAT THEY HAVE GREAT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND AIM TO PLEASE THEIR CUSTOMERS. SO I ASKED FOR A GOODWILL SINCE THE RELAIBILTY FAILED. I HAVE BEEN PUSHED AROUND AND GONE IN CIRCLES WITH THE PERSON WHOM HAS OPENED MY CLAIM# AND HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE FOR MULTIPLE DAYS ON MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS AND HAVE GOTTEN NO FEEDBACK. I WORK ACROSS THE STREET AND CAN ACCESS THEM WHY CANT THEY? I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR WHAT GOODWILL THEY CAN GIVE!!!TRANSMIIONS SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 100,000 MILES WHY HASNT THIS ONE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. ALSO DOES NOT SHIFT THROUGH THE SPEEDS AND THE RPM REACHES 5000. SHIFTING IS UNPREDICTABLE AND VERY GLITCHY. DANGEROUS IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS BECAUSE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. REVERSE TO FORWARD DIRECTION IS UNPREDICTABLE. WORSE IN COLD CONDITIONS. CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. CONDITION HAS WORSENED AND NOW NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 64,000 KM.

TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAUSES FREQUENT HARD SHIFTING. THIS ISSUE STARTED AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES. WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE, THE ENGINE REVS SPIKE, AND THEN THE CAR JUMPS INTO GEAR WITH A VERY HARD THUD. BY 61,000 MILES, THIS PROBLEM WENT FROM A ONCE-DAILY OCCURRENCE TO A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE. IT'S TYPICALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS (20~40MPH) AND DRIVING AT CONSTANT SPEED - NOT ACCELERATING. UPDATE FROM NOV 9, 2020: AT 65,000 MILES, I TOOK THIS INTO MY FORD DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION. THEY REPORTED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL WAS GOOD (REMOVE THE OVERFLOW PLUG AND OIL SLOWLY DRIPS OUT) AND THAT THE FLUID WAS DIRTY. THEY REPORTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACED.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSIONS. MY 15 FORD ESCAPE HAS ONLY 77,000 AND WITH NO WORRYING THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THE REPAIR FOR A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT ISN'T CHEAP. AFTER ASKING AROUND I FOUND OUT THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH FORD ESCAPES HAVE HAD THEIR TRANSMISSION GO OUT NORMALLY WITH LOW MILEAGE. I WAS PLANNING ON KEEPING MY ESCAPE FOR YEARS TO COME BUT INSTEAD DUE TO THE HIGH REPAIR COST I'M HAVING TO TRADE. I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER FORD! I JUST HOPE FOR FUTURE OR CURRENT FORD ESCAPE OWNERS THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. WHEN IT'S JUST ONE VEHICLE YOU THINK MISFORTUNE BUT MULTIPLE VEHICLES MAKES IT A PROBLEM! THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION BEFORE IT WENT OUT, BUT SOMEONE ELSE MAY NOT BE THAT LUCKY.

I HAVE A 2015 FORD ESCAPE THAT HAS LESS THEN 51,000 MILES. FORD'S POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS 5 YRS OR 60,000 MILES AND ITS CURRENTLY ONLY 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. ALL OIL CHANGES WERE COMPLETED AT FIRESTONE AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP COMPLETED THE 30,000 MILE SERVICE AS RECOMMENDED. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. THE RPM'S JUMPED TO AROUND 5,000 AS I PRESSED THE PEDAL BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE. FOR SAFETY REASONS, I HAD TO QUICKLY EXIT THE HIGHWAY WITH MY HAZARDS ON WHILE TRYING TO AVOID THE SEMI TRAVELING BEHIND ME FROM CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. UPON EXITING THE HIGHWAY, I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SPEED OF 10MPH AND COME TO A STOP AT THE LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, BUT AROUND 15MPH, THE RPM'S JUMPED ONCE AGAIN AND I LOST ACCELERATION. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ONTO A SIDE STREET AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. RIGHT AS I DID THAT A 'TRANSMISSION FAILURE SERVICE NOW' LIGHT APPEAR. FOLLOWING THAT, A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND THE ENGINE MADE SOME LOUD NOISES. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. ONCE A TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, HE STARTED THE VEHICLE (NO CHECK ENGINE OR FAILURE LIGHTS APPEARED) AND HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE FLAT BED. IT WAS TOWED TO FORD WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED 3 TRANSMISSION FAILURES (TRANSMISSION PUMP, TORQUE CONVERTER, REGULATOR VALVE). THIS CREATED A VERY SUDDEN AND UNSAFE SITUATION. HOW DOES A VEHICLE WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE (HAVE ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION) SUDDENLY FAIL WHILE DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY CITY HIGHWAY? IN MY MIND, THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, YOU CAN FIND MANY TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THE 2013 - 2014 MODELS. WOULDN'T MY ENGINE BE THE SAME AS THE PREVIOUS YEARS? THIS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING EVALUATED BY A DIFFERENT SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION.

WITHIN LAST WEEK, TWICE WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON A CITY HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. LIGHTS, RADIO, DASHBOARD, ETC. ALL CONTINUED TO WORK. NOTIFICATION CAME ON DASHBOARD STATING "WARNING, VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK." FORTUNATELY, IN BOTH INSTANCES I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO THE SHOULDER INTO A PARKING LOT AND AVOID CAUSING A WRECK OR BEING WRECKED INTO. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! WITH CAR SAFELY IN A PARKING LOT, I MOVED MY TRANSMISSION INTO PARK. I TURNED MY KEY TO THE "OFF" POSITION. I REMOVED MY KEY. I REINSERTED THE KEY AND TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE. LIGHTS, RADIO, DASH, ETC. ALL CAME ON. HOWEVER, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THERE WAS NOT A "CLICK" AS IF THE ENGINE WAS TRYING TO TURN OVER. THERE WAS ONLY A NOTIFICATION OF "SYSTEM START FAULT." I TRIED OUR SPARE KEY, AND RECEIVED SAME NOTIFICATION. VEHICLE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MOVE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK INTO NEUTRAL TO BE TOWED. STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. ABANDONED VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS, RETURNED TO VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE STARTED. TO CLARIFY, EVERYTHING LISTED HERE HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES AND ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS SO FAR. TESTS AT BOTH AUTOZONE AND O'REILY AUTO PARTS CONFIRM - AS I SUSPECTED, SINCE LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC. WOULD TURN ON - THAT THE BATTERY AND THE TRANSMISSION ARE WORKING JUST FINE. AFTER ONLY 83,000 MILES, MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSION HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO-LANE STATE HIGHWAY WENT I FELT A JERKING MOTION. THE CAR EVENTUALLY LOST ALL POWER AND STALLED. I RESTARTED IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND IT STARTED BUT REVVED INTENSELY. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. THE CAR THEN REVVED WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. I COULD NOT GET IT TO GO INTO REVERSE OR HIGHER GEARS. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON HOPING IT WOULD RESET. EVENTUALLY I GOT IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. I AM A CONSERVATIVE DRIVER WHO KEEPS HIS MAINTENANCE UP TO DATE. NO SPEEDING TICKETS. NO DRIVING IN HARSH CONDITIONS. CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. BUT WITH NO WARNING, THE TRANSMISSION SIMPLY "WENT OUT." KOONS FORD IN BALTIMORE JUST QUOTED ME $5,250 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION - JUST THE TRANSMISSION NOT LABOR. ADD ANOTHER $1,500 IN LABOR AND I AM AT CLOSE TO $7,000 FOR A CAR WITH 83,000 MILES ON IT. I'LL BE BUYING HONDAS FROM NOW ON. I SHOULD NEVER HAVE SWITCHED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERS WHILE PARKING IN A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED INTO REVERSE AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, PARK, OR DRIVE. THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TURNED OFF WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN PLACE SO THAT IT WOULD NOT CONTINUE TO TRAVEL IN REVERSE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR, THE SHIFTER REMAINED IN THE R POSITION BUT THE DASHBOARD NOW DISPLAYED THE CAR WAS IN N. THE SHIFTER WAS EVENTUALLY FORCED INTO THE PARK POSITION, BUT THE DISPLAY REMAINED IN N. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND THE SHIFT CABLE BUSHING WAS REPLACED. THERE HAVE BEEN PART RECALLS ON THIS PART IN EARLIER MODELS OF FORD ESCAPES AND ON THE SAME YEAR (2015) OF FORD FUSION MODELS.

WITHOUT ANY WARNING (NO GEAR SLIPPAGE, NO GRINDING, NO DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO GEAR, NO SEAL LEAKS, NO ROUGH GEAR CHANGES, NO BUCKING, NO LOSS OF POWER, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE ES (1.6L ECOBOOST) FAILED COMPLETELY AT 103,250 MILES WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, CAUSING THE SUDDEN INABILITY TO ACCELERATE, RAPID DECELERATION AND THROWING THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THE TRANSMISSION FAULT SERVICE WARNING DID NOT ILLUMINATE UNTIL MUCH LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS A FORD CPO (FORD CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED) WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MILES AND REGULAR ON-TIME MAINTENANCE COMPLETED. THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FULL TRANSMISSION FAILURE FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL IS LISTED IN FORD'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS AS A KNOW ISSUE, AND WHEN CONTACTED, FORD MOTOR COMPANY DENIES ANY KNOWLEDGE OF FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2015. *TR

RPM'S WOULD GO UP BUT THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO RESPOND VERY WELL TO PUSHING ON THE GAS. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD US THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AS A PIECE OF IT (NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT PIECE) HAD BROKEN OFF WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION AND HAD DESTROYED IT.

DRIVING MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE 1.6 TURBO ON INTERSTATE, STARTED TO FEEL LIKE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING BUT A FEW DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON CODE P26B7 AT DEALER (CODE P0012 AT O'REILLY AUTO PARTS). O'REILLY SAYS IT WAS A GENERIC CODE FOR "CAM SHAFT SENSOR" BUT FORD SAYS THE CODE P26B7 IS COOLANT BYPASS VALVE C NEEDS REPLACED COSTING ABOUT $500. I NOTICED THERE ARE A TON OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME 2015 ESCAPE AND EVEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON THE 2014 FORD ESCAPE 1.6 TURBO. OBVIOUSLY THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THE 2015 AS WELL! WE WERE DRIVING ON A RURAL HIGHWAY AT A STEADY SPEED WHEN WITH NO WARNING OUR VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION POWER AND CAME TO A DEAD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHEN WE PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL THE RPMS WOULD YOU UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON WOULD RESTORE POWER FOR ONLY A MOMENT BEFORE WE LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. THANK GOD WE WERE NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS. AFTER PUSHING OUR CAR A HALF MILE THE CAR FINALLY GAVE ME A FAULTY TRANSMISSION ALERT. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 71K MILES AND RECEIVES REGULAR MAINTENANCE. RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I HAVE DISCOVERED MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH MANY FORD ESCAPES UNDER 100K HERE IS THE LINK TO SEVERAL OF THEM : HTTP://M.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/FORD/ESCAPE/2015/TRANSMISSION/FAILURE.SHTML *LN *DL

THE CAR A 2015 FORD ESCAPE SE AWD WITH ~ 86,600 MILES WOULD SHUT OFF AND HAVE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER SITTING FOR AWHILE. IT ALSO STARTED TO RUN A LITTLE ROUGH. SO I TOOK INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND A TUNE UP ON DECEMBER 24TH 2019. AFTER THE TUNE UP IT STILL EXHIBITED THE SAME ROUGH RIDING AND SHUT OFF. THE NEXT DAY ON DECEMBER 25TH AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT SHUTOFF INITIALLY AND HAD TO BE RESTARTED. WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY IT SHUDDERED VIOLENTLY AND WHITE SMOKE POURED OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. I PULLED IT BACK INTO THE GARAGE, AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING MORNING DECEMBER THE 26TH. AFTER SOME TIME THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE, AND THAT ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS HAD BEEN FOULED WITH COOLANT. AFTER MORE TESTING AND HOLDING THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS THEY INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. WHAT'S ODD IS THAT I NEVER WITNESSED THE CAR OVER HEATING, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON TILL I WAS DRIVING THE CAR BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP ON THE MORNING OF DECEMBER THE 26TH. FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE SAYS THAT THEY'LL PAY 1/4 OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I'VE FOUND QUITE A FEW ESCAPE OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE OF COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY NEED A NEW ENGINE. THESE ENGINES ARE FAILING PREMATURELY DUE TO ENGINES OVER HEATING AND THE BLOCKS FAILING. I SUSPECT THAT THE COOLANT SENSOR IS ALSO DEFECTIVE. THIS 2015 ESCAPE WAS PURCHASED NEW AT THE END OF 2014, AND MAINTAINED BY REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE. *TR

OUT OF NOWHERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY VEHICLE REFUSED TO MOVE FROM STOP LIGHT, BLOCKING THE LANE. RPM WENT UP NO ENGAGEMENT NOT EVEN A BIT. TURNED IGNITION OFF/ON, PUT IN DRIVE, CAR MOVED 100 FEET AND STOP AGAIN. I REALIZED THIS ISN'T A FLUKE BUT SERIOUS PROBLEM, SO AFTER SEVERAL TRIES BY SWITCHING HESITANTLY FROM N TO D TO S WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 300 FEET TO CLOSEST SAFEWAY PARKING AND CALL FOR TOWING. LONG STORY SHORT, AFTER SPECIALIZED TRANSMISSION SHOP IN THE AREA WAS ABLE TO CHECK IT OUT AND TAKE IT FOR TEST DRIVE VERDICT WAS "ITS PROBABLY NOT THAT BAD, SOMETHING IS BLOCKING TRANSMISSION FILTER, SEEMS LIKE TRANSFER CASE ISSUE, WE SEE THAT A LOT ON AWD MODELS FOR THESE ESCAPES. HOWEVER ONLY AFTER WE TAKE IT OUT WE CAN DECIDE IF SOMETHING IS BROKEN IN TRANSMISSION ITSELF " SO APPARENTLY THIS WAS A GOOD NEWS WHICH WILL COST $2500 AND IF SOMETHING ELSE WILL BE FOUND IN TRANSMISSION $4500. WE GOT THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE FORD DEALER AND TIMELY DONE ALL SERVICES AT FORD DEALERSHIP FOR ALL THESE YEARS, THIS KIND OF THINGS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON WELL TAKEN CARE VEHICLE OFF AT ONLY 75000 MILES

I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD, AND OUT OF NO WHERE, MY CAR JUST STOPPED MOVING. IT WAS STILL ON, BUT WOULDN'T MOVE. AFTER PUTTING THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY DOWN, AND AFTER ABOUT 20 SECONDS, IT FINALLY MOVED BUT WAS REALLY JERKY FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MINUTES UNTIL I WAS HOME. WHEN I TRIED TO TAKE IT TO GET CHECKED, IT DID THE SAME THING. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED MY CAR OFF, WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES, AND STARTED IT AGAIN. IT WOULD RUN FINE FOR SEVERAL YARDS, THEN DO THE SAME THING, WHERE IT WOULD JUST STOP MOVING. A CLEAR SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND THE CAR JUST STOPS MOVING. IT'S CURRENTLY AT A FORD DEALERSHIP NOW, AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK. I HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2015 FORD ESCAPE. THIS IS ALSO TERRIBLE BECAUSE THE CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 60,000 MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING, ESPECIALLY IN MULTIPLE CARS!

I DROVE TO A DAIRY QUEEN PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK. AS I STARTED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IT STARTED TO ROLL BACK, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE CAR WAS IN PARK WHICH IT WAS. I THEN PUT ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR TO LEAVE. I COULD NOT START THE CAR, THE SHIFTER WAS LOCKED IN PARK BUT THE INDICATOR ON THE DASH SHOWED IT WAS IN REVERSE, ALSO THE BACK UP CAMERA WAS ON. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO KLABEN FORD IN KENT OHIO, WHERE THE SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING WAS FOUND TO BE BROKEN. KLABEN INSTALLED A NEW BUSHING. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS TO FIND FORD HAD RECALLED SOME MODELS BETWEEN 2013 AND 2016 FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT THIS CAR. I SUSPECT THERE ARE STILL SOME BAD BUSHINGS OUT THERE. THE SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING BROKE AS IT WAS BEING PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE WAS LOCKED IN NEUTRAL POSITION EVEN THOUGH THE CONSOLE SHIFTER WAS IN THE PARK POSITION. LUCKILY WE NOTICED IT ROLL SLIGHTLY AFTER GETTING OUT OF CAR AND WERE ABLE TO GET BACK IN CAR AND PLACE THE PARKING BRAKE SO IT WOULD NOT ROLL INTO THE STREET. THIS IS A SIMILAR ISSUE TO A RECALL OF OLDER FORD ESCAPES (2013 AND 2014). THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT MOVE AFTER THAT AND WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER. HAD IT BEEN ON A LESSER GRADE WE MAY NOT HAVE NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT IN PARK, AND COULD HAVE ROLLED INTO STREET CAUSING ACCIDENT.

WHEN I WOULD MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER, NONE OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD LIGHT UP AS IN WHAT GEAR I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN. THE ONLY GEAR THAT LIT UP WAS PARK. SHIFTER CABLE BUSHINGS PROBLEM! I PARKED IN A PARKING SPACE AT THE GROCERY STORE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS ALMOST HITTING A CUSTOMER BEHIND ME. MY SHIFTER WAS IN PARK, BUT THE DASHBOARD SAID I WAS IN REVERSE. I WAS STUCK AND COULD NOT TURN THE CAR OFF AND HAD TO WAIT HOURS FOR A TOW. NOW I'M WITHOUT A CAR TO GET TO WORK. WHAT IF I HIT THE LADY THAT WAS WALKING BEHIND ME? THIS IS A VERY CONCERNING SAFETY ISSUE AND I TRUST THAT MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, AND GET MY CAR BACK SO THAT I CAN GET TO WORK. VERY SCARY AND SO THANKFUL THIS DIDNT RESULT IN DAMAGE OR INJURY. THE BUSHING THAT ATTACHES THE SHIFTER CABLE TO THE TRANSMISSION DETACHED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. A DEGRADED SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING THAT DETACHES FROM THE TRANSMISSION ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO BE IN A GEAR STATE DIFFERENT THAN THE GEAR SHIFT POSITION SELECTED DRIVER. THE CONDITION ALLOWED DRIVER TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER TO 'PARK' AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY, WHILE THE TRANSMISSION MAY NOT BE IN 'PARK,' WITH NO WARNING MESSAGE OR AUDIBLE CHIME. IF THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED, A DEGRADED SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING THAT DETACHES FROM THE TRANSMISSION COULD RESULT IN UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY OR CRASH.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE SE WITH 95,000 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY GOING 55MPH WHEN I HEARD A FAINT WHISTLING NOISE. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AT FIRST BECAUSE IT WAS SO FAINT, BUT THEN I REALIZED I WAS PUSHING THE GAS AND THE RPMS WOULD SHOOT UP VERY HIGH BUT THE CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED PULLING OFF THE ROAD RAPIDLY SLOWING DOWN. I GOT OFF AND I KEPT PUSHING THE GAS TRYING TO GET MYSELF OFF UNTIL I WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPPED. AT ONE LAST ATTEMPT TO GET MYSELF TO A SAFE SPOT TO BE STOPPED I PRESSED THE GAS THE CAR LUNCHED FORWARD AND MADE A VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. AT THIS POINT I DIDN'T THINK THE CAR WOULD GO AGAIN SO I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. AFTER EVERYTHING COOLED DOWN IT DROVE FINE FOR THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER BUT I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE CENTER OF THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE MAN THERE EXPLAINED TO ME THE REASON IT STOPPED ACCELERATING IS BECAUSE OF A 'SAFTEY' FEATURE CALLED LIMP MODE WHERE YOUR CAR SHIFTS INTO A LOWER GEAR TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE. AFTER A FEW DAYS THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TWO NEW SENSORS THAT DETECT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS OVER HEATING. I PAID $350 FOR THAT AND WENT ON MY WAY. NOT EVEN 20 BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE SERVICE CENTER THE CAR STARTED MAKING THE EXACT SAME NOISE AND BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET. WE HAD IT TOWED BACK THE SERVICE CENTER. THEY HAD IT BROUGHT TO FORD AND FORD SAID THAT IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I DON'T THINK A CAR WITH NOT EVEN 100,000 MILES ON IT SHOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I REALLY HOPE FORD CAN DO SOMETHING FOR ME. I AM A YOUNG FEMALE AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR THAT HAS NOW LEFT ME STRANDED MORE THAN ONCE.

I PURCHASED MY FORD ESCAPE CERTIFIED USED FROM A DEALERSHIP BACK IN JULY 2016, IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 26,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND NO ACCIDENTS REPORTED. IN FEBRUARY 2017 THE VEHICLE STARTS HESITATING WHILE IN MOTION ON A COUNTRY STREET, ACTING AS THOUGH IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL OUT, NO WARNING INDICATORS CAME UP, ABLE TO GET TO OUR DRIVEWAY. WHEN IN OUR DRIVEWAY WE WERE ABLE TO BACK UP BUT WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE THE DASH GAVE A WARNING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN PARK AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD ONLY IN REVERSE. WE GOT IT TOWED BY OUR FORD WARRANTY TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE PAPERWORK LOOKS LIKE THEY DID AN OVERHAUL ON THE TRANSMISSION. NOW IT JULY OF 2017 (56,000 MILES ON IT) WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE CAR BEGINS TO HESITATE AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF AN EXIT ON THE HIGHWAY BUT THEN MY CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED NOTHING HAPPENED. NO WARNING INDICATORS AT ALL PRESENT ON DASH. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT BACK ON AND THE CAR WAS ABLE TO MOVE AN INCH. WHEN PLACED IN THE SPORT DRIVE THE CAR COULD NOT RECOGNIZE IT IN DRIVE AS EVIDENCED BY IT DID NOT EVEN LIGHT UP THE "S" ON THE DASH TO LET YOU KNOW IT WAS IN SPORT DRIVE. FORD AGAIN TOWED MY CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS BEING INSPECTED AS WE SPEAK. I HAVE HAD THE CAR A TOTAL OF 1 YEAR AND IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES. UNACCEPTABLE, THANK GOODNESS BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SAFETY, I WOULD NOT WANT TO IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I WAS ON A MUCH LARGER HIGHWAY AND THIS OCCURRED TO THE VEHICLE. THESE ISSUES ARE MAKING ME FEEL VERY UNSAFE AND UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN MY TWO CHILDREN ARE IN THE CAR WITH ME.

I PURCHASED A USED 2015 FORD ESCAPE ON MAY 10, 2017. I DROVE IT TO YELLOWSTONE OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TO TEST THE VEHICLE OUT. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT REALLY HARD AND AT 40 MPH IT SEEMED TO HESITATE WHAT GEAR TO SHIFT TO. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO SENT IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY RESET THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THE CAR LEARNS A DRIVER'S DRIVING HABITS AND SINCE SOMEONE ELSE OWNED THE CAR IT WASN'T USED TO MY DRIVING HABITS. THE RESET ON THE TRANSMISSION HAS HELP A LITTLE, I STILL DO NOT LIKE THE WAY IT SHIFTS AT 40 MPH AND IT ALSO HESITATES TO GO AND THEN WHEN IT KICKS IN IT IS HARD TO SLOW DOWN. YESTERDAY JULY 5, 2017 I WAS DRIVING BACK TO WORK FROM LUNCH AND MY POWER STEERING FAILED. I HAD A WARNING COME ON AT THE SAME TIME I NOTICED THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. I WAS GLAD I WAS ON A BACK ROAD OR IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AND ACCIDENT. I COULDN'T MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING REGARDING THE ISSUE YET. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST 60 DAYS AND I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED TWICE. I DON'T FEEL I CAN TRUST THIS CAR. MY 10 YEAR OLD VAN WITH 170,000 MILES IS MORE RELIABLE.

Jul 10, 2016 Crash

THE CAR ACCELERATED AFTER SLOWED DOWN TO PARK. IT SURGED TOWARD A CEMENT WALL AND ONLY SCRAPED IT BY ME TURNING WHEEL BUT WENT BETWEEN TWO CEMENT PILLARS AND KNOCKING OVER A CEMENT BENCH. DAMAGE ON THE CAR AND RECEIVED A CITATION . I AM JUST AFRAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I WON'T BE SO LUCKY. SO NOW I HAVE TO HAVE THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVOLVED AND IT IS COSTING ME PLUS THE CITATION . I THINK FORD MOTOR SHOULD TAKE OF THIS AND DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO FIX THE PROBLEM

A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR, IT STARTED STALLING AFTER DRIVING IT HOME FROM WORK.TOOK TO DEALER PUT ON THE COMPUTER, NOTHING SHOWED UP AS BEING WRONG? THEY TOLD ME TO PUT SEAFOAM GAS TREATMENT IN DIDN'T WORK. THE STALLING KEPT HAPPENING AFTER DRIVING A LONG DISTANCE. AFTER MANY TIMES TO THE DEALER (1TIME THEY KEPT IT 2 WEEKS) THEY STILL COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM? DEALER DECIDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY THE ONLY THING THAT CONTROLS THE IDLE. IT STILL CONTINUED TO STALL ON AND OFF AFTER A LONG RIDE. THEN IN FEB. 2016 IT STALLED ON I-75 SEVERAL TIMES THIS TIME NOT EVEN 10 MILES FROM WORK. WE WERE GOING SLOW DUE TO ICY ROADS HAVING TO PUT IN NEUTRAL JUST TO KEEP FROM STALLING. BACK TO DEALER, NOTHING SHOWED UP ON COMPUTER. MY WIFE THEN CALLED DEALER CONCERNED THAT IT COULD STALL WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE DEALER DECIDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY AGAIN. STUMPED ON HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM GOT THE CAR BACK SATURDAY. WENT TO WORK ON MONDAY AFTER WORK STOPPED TO GET GAS SHUT OFF RESTARTED CAR AND IT STALLED?? THERE SEEMS TO BE NO SPECIFIC REASON OR CONDITION THAT IT KEEPS STALLING. IT STALLS WHILE IN GEAR OR PARK? THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE BODILY HARM. DO I HAVE A LEMON?

I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW ABOUT A YEAR AGO. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY I NOTICED AN INTERMITTENT HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AFTER SLOWING OR FROM A FULL STOP. THE HESITATION VARIES FROM ABOUT TWO SECONDS OR LONGER. WHEN THE CAR DOES ACCELERATE IT SURGES FORWARD AT A FAST RATE OF SPEED. WHILE TRYING TO TURN LEFT AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A TWO LANE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH SUFFICIENT TIME MY CAR HESITATED UPON ACCELERATING CAUSING THE ONCOMING CAR TO BRAKE HARD IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING ME. THIS CAR ALSO HESITATES AFTER PULLING OFF A ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT, IE., STORE, SCHOOL, AND, AT RANDOM, WILL HESITATE UPON ACCELERATING FOR A SEVERAL SECOND DELAY ONLY TO SURGE IN SPEED MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO INITIALLY CONTROL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER SIX TIMES AND ONCE TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER. ALL SAY THE BECAUSE THERE IS NO FAULT CODE THEY CANNOT FIX IT. I CALLED FORD ENG. AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THE LAST TIME I HAD THIS CAR TO THE DEALER THE INVOICE STATED, "NO CODES" AND ROAD TESTED BUT THE MILEAGE IN WAS THE SAME AS THE MILEAGE OUT INDICATION THAT NOTHING WAS DONE. IT HAS BECOME OBVIOUS THAT FORD DEALER I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM IS NOW PATRONIZING ME. THEREFORE IT HAS BECOME A WASTE OF TIME TO KEEP BRINGING THIS CAR BACK. I HAVE FOUND A MULTITUDE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT FORD VEHICLES ON THE INTERNET. MANY WERE BEING PUT OFF WITH THE SAME EXCUSE, "NO CODE." I AM A FORD RETIREE AND HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED THAT BOTH A FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD ITSELF HAVE PATRONIZE ME TO THE POINT I BELIEVE I AM BEING PLAYED BECAUSE OF MY SENIOR AGE. I BELIEVE THIS "HESITATION" DEFECT TO BE VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN RESULT IN SEVERE INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. THANK YOU. *TR

PURCHASED VEHICLE 1/30/2015 AND DROVE OFF LOT WITH 3 MILES ON IT. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER VEHICLE STARTED STALLING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND HESITATING UPON ACCELERATION. VEHICLE WAS IN FORD REPAIR SHOP FOR 12 DAYS WITH 1200 WORTH OF PARTS REPLACED ON TRANSMISSION. PICKED UP VEHICLE WITH 810 MILES ON IT AND LESS THAN A WEEK AND 150 MILES LATER THE VEHICLE IS AGAIN STALLING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS UPON ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE! *TR
