The Ford SYNC infotainment system failed and produced no audio and no hands-free phone functionality. This created a safety risk because the driver could not use hands-free calling and could not hear navigation prompts, warning chimes, or system alerts, increasing distraction while driving. A Ford dealer diagnosed internal failures in the APIM and Audio Control Module (ACM). The APIM was replaced and programmed, but audio did not return until the ACM was also replaced. The issue was repaired. This report is submitted to document a safety-related failure of the Ford SYNC system for review of potential defects affecting other vehicles.
I went to the dealership to clear my recall with Ford for my 2016 Ford Escape. It has been 30 days but Ford has still not cleared the recall with NHTSA to clear my vehicle.

This is not a report of an incident but is a report of an ongoing failure of the rear back up camera system. Recently there has been recalls (two that I’m aware of) of specific Ford vehicles for this specific problem, however, my vehicle has not been included as of yet. I have checked on your website for my vin number but it only says no recalls due. I have had a failure of this nature for at least 6 months with the camera saying it is not available, within seconds showing upside down flashing images, etc. it is unusable as a reliable guide. It has been inspected with an advisory to take it to Ford dealership which I am not able to afford at this point.
2016 escape rear camera displays upside down. Ford motor just recalled over a million of their vehicles due to safety hazard, Mine is not listed in recall but has exact same safety issue. Contacted FMC and said it's not on the recall list. I ask them to repair just like the others that are being recalled. We bought this new in 2016. My Rearview camera works sporadically. I have had trouble backing into tight spots because of my camera not working p
The back-up camera is not functioning properly. The majority of the time the screen is black and I get a message saying camera is unavailable. Occasionally the screen will light up but it has distorted lines of odd colors on the screen. I am unable to see what is behind me when I put my car in reverse. This has been going on for several months and with the many recalls for this issue I have been waiting for my car to be added to the recall for the back-up camera but, this does not appear to be happening.
My back up camera doesn't always work, sometimes blank, sometimes black screen. Once I shift to drive it tells me Back up camera not available. I was hoping I'd be included in the camera recall.

Rear camera image is distorted in a manner probably similar to 25V-270 and 25V-272. This is one of the few vehicles where a flipping of the image or no display occurs on reverse.
When shifting the gear shifter to reverse the back up camera is distorted and flickers and changes into color like green and static lines. The back up sound to alert something is behind the car will delay the sound to let u know something is there. It’s not every time this happens but 6 out of 10 times I put it in reverse daily it does what I explain above.
Backup camera shuts off and on when backing up at first. Then would get lines across the screen when backing up after a few weeks. Now does not turn on at all and if it pops on for a second the screen is blue or says not detected.
While using my rear backup camera, because the car was set to reverse, the image will be distorted, flip and distorted, or not display at all.

I was driving the car and I was having issues with it shutting off when I was driving the car it shut off in the middle of me driving and it just wouldn't move after that until a tow truck driver came and gave me a jumpstart that happened a number of times, but in the middle of traffic was the worst and very dangerous when my kids are in the car
Ford has a huge recall of Escapes due to back-up cameras malfunctioning. My 2016 has been working and not working intermittently for some time now. I would like the 2016 Escapes to be included in the recall as well, but I believe they have only included those going back to 2020. A generic diagnostic machine has picked up the issue repeatedly. I will be having a Ford diagnostic service appointment this Friday for a different issue. The dashboard has begun to intermittently read "temporarily disabled" and "4-wheel drive" at which time the car acts like it is not in the right gear. The Ford Dealership has stated that they will also look at the back-up camera. Thank you.
The vehicle experienced multiple critical system failures within one week of purchase: Transmission failure (slipping, delayed shifting, and stalling during acceleration) Braking system malfunction (brakes jump or pulse when pressed, inconsistent stopping) Fluid leakage inside the cabin near the gas and brake pedals (believed to be either brake fluid or transmission fluid) The vehicle is currently undrivable and can be made available for inspection upon request. The vehicle became a severe safety hazard while I was operating it with my infant child in the car. The brakes were unresponsive and unpredictable, creating near-miss situations when trying to stop. The transmission failure caused stalling at intersections and hesitation when accelerating, putting me at risk of being rear-ended. The fluid leak near the pedals presents a possible fire hazard or the risk of further brake failure. I feared for my life and my child’s safety. The problem has not been confirmed by a mechanic yet because the dealership, Platinum Auto Sales in Arlington, VA, refused to take the vehicle back or inspect it after I reported the issues. I was dismissed when I returned to report the failures. I am currently seeking an independent inspection, but I want this formally documented as an urgent safety matter. I am in the process of filing reports with the Federal Trade Commission, state consumer protection, and local police regarding fraud and sale of a dangerous vehicle. I can make the vehicle available for inspection by NHTSA or a certified safety inspector. There were no warning lights or error messages at the time of purchase. The problems appeared within 24–48 hours of driving the vehicle: Difficulty shifting and hesitation when accelerating began almost immediately Brake issues and pedal fluid leakage appeared by Day 3 By Day 5, the vehicle became unsafe to drive altogether

The rear back up camera invert and turn the vision upside down. I understand that there was a recall for this year and model for that problem, but mine does not show up on the recall, but my camera rear facing camera does not work because it inverts all the images upside down. I bought the car used with 128,000 miles on it so I don’t know actually how long this problem had been going on before I purchased the car but the rear backup camera now shows everything upside down.
I saw a recall for newer years of Ford products where the camera wasn't working and it is a safety hazard. My 2016 Escape rear camera has not been working properly for many years. It appears to me that it is a software problem because the camera will be upside-down OR roll upside down. I updated the firmware on my car, but it still doesn't work. There are Youtube videos out there, because it is a common problem with the Escape. [XXX] Please add the 2016 Escapes to your current recall. Here is a link to the recall for the newer Ford Products.[XXX] I have attached recent still pics of my car-cam upside down and I tried to attached a (short )14 second video of it rolling upside down, but your website does not allow videos to be uploaded? So I made the video into a .gif and uploaded it so you could see the rolling camera that happened today. The rolling camera problems does happen a lot, but not as much as the upside down feed. As you can see from the photographs, the directional lines that are supposed to show the direction a driver is backing up, are NOT present either. A person backing up, using the upside down feed, will NOT see the direction they are backing up. The attached photos were all taken within the last couple days, you can check the date and time they were taken on each photo. Please contact me if you want me to send you the original video that I took today. Please help me with this problem. I am not the sole person to have this problem with older Ford products. When I put my Escape in Reverse, sometimes the rear view camera works and sometimes it doesnt
While in reverse gear, during operation rear view camera stopped working and shows error that back up Camera is not available. Screen shows blue screen. It is very dangerous as it can cause an accident.
Backup camera will most of the time not work properly and will black out screen or blue screen.
Backup camera intermittently stops working. Some days, it works fine. Other days, whenever shift to reverse, the screen is either black or blue with the message that the camera is not available. It will sometimes go to the black/blue screen while I am reversing into/ out of my driveway, parking spot, etc. Shifting to park or neutral and then to reverse doesn't correct the problem. It started out as an occasional problem, but now happens multiple times a day. This is an extremely unsafe situation. If someone/something is behind me when I am reversing, it is likely that I would not have enough time to react to prevent an injury or worse.So many other Ford vehicles have a recall for backup camera issues, why is the Escape not included?
While operating my 2016 Ford Escape, I received a "Transmission Fault Service Now" warning on the dashboard display. It stayed on my dashboard for few minutes then disapeared. The vehicle suddenly jerked and became immobile, leaving me stranded in the middle of the street for approximately 5 hours, creating a significant safety hazard for both myself and other drivers. The vehicle's RPMs would increase but the car would not move forward properly. The transmission would only allow minimal movement immediately after starting the vehicle. A certified repair shop has diagnosed internal transmission damage. Similar transmission issues have been the subject of recalls for other Ford Escape vehicles, but my 2016 model year was not included after providing my vin despite exhibiting the same dangerous failure pattern. The transmission is available for inspection in Virginia Beach, VA. If needed, I can provide address details. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer.
Back up camera screen is blank.
The felt undercarriage cover keeps coming off the bottom of the vehicle. Completely fell off first time, and dealership screwed it back on. Approximately 60 days later it was hanging again. Dealer said it isn't needed if I don't drive on dirt roads and removed it. Not clear as to the safety concern to the under part of the vehicle and engine protection.
2016 Ford Escape rearview camera works only intermittently and sometimes not at all. On screen when the camera doesn't work it says Camera not available. Why is this vehicle not included in the Ford recall of faulty rearview cameras? The $165M penalty should be broadened to cover these failures in earlier model years. It is not just 2021 models.
The component that malfunctioned was my transmission according to the mechanic. I was driving and all the sudden my car stopped and wouldn't go, then the accelerator started going to the max but nothing happened. My first thought was a flat tire and after I checked my tires it wasn't flat. I started my car back up and it did the same thing eventually stalling and not moving at all. The wheel locked and would not move to steer or release. I had to get it towed. This is a huge safety issue concern because it stopped in the middle of the road while I was driving putting my life and others at risk. It's available for inspection upon request.The problem was confirmed by a mechanic in which he said there was a recall at some point on the transmission for my vehicle but he was unsure if it was still active. There were no warning lamps or signs and there still isn't present on my dash. Thus making there being no warning signs at all a safety issues for myself and others.
Rear gate comes down unexpectedly.
There were issues with shifting in the cars transmission. The mechanic that fixed it claims there were faulty parts in the original transmission.
At 116k miles the Turbo had to be replaced, immediately following by the transmission failed and needs to be fully replaced.

The liftgate just opens on it's own! It'll say it's ajar while driving and will completely open on it's own while parked and while the key fob is just sitting on a table with nothing touching it.
Checked the Ford Sync and Navigation Updates webpage to see if there was an update available for my car that would enable Apple CarPlay and the associated safety benefits in interacting with the infotainment console. The website indicated an update was available. I attempted to connect the car via WiFi to my phone in order to process the update, but even with the automatic updates button on it would not update. I took the vehicle into a Ford garage and asked them to update it for me while getting my oil changed. When I received it back, the software was the same. I then called a different Ford garage and asked if they could update it. They said that they could so I made a second appointment. I took it in and they at first took it back but then a technician came to talk with me about the multitudinous problems that were likely to occur if they updated my software to the newest version (screen going black, car not starting, electrical issues, driving issues) and said that if any of those occurred it would then be thousands of more dollars to replace the messed up components. I asked if he had a software version prior to the most recent one that wouldn’t cause those problems, and he said no he did not. He asked if I wanted to continue with the upgrade, with it implied that I would be responsible for any further issues that occurred because of the update. I did not want to risk something happening to the car while I was driving by applying the update.
This car is an accident waiting to happen. 1st car kept on shuddering or pulling while driving over 40 miles per hour. Took it to Ray Price Ford in Stroudsburg PA 4 times they couldn’t diagnose or replicate what I was talking about. I had to pull over a few times because I thought a cable popped or I hit something. Took it back the 5th time 6/2020 92,000 miles just out of warranty they finally diagnosed it with a bad transmission. $6,000. I fought with them and was able to get them to split the cost because they weren’t able to diagnose it when it was under warranty. I thought I was past the nightmare called Ford Escape. However around 5/2024, 115,00 miles my daughter was driving the car on the highway. Cruising at 60mph, when she had to press the gas pedal to speed up to get to her exit. The car lost power, she floored it and it wouldn’t move. She pulled over and called us. She said the check engine light came on and the car had no pickup when she stepped on the gas pedal .I told her to drive it home with the hazards on. We took it to Ray Price and they said the turbocharger was on the way out and cleared the code. I called Ford customer service to complain again about the piece of garbage that they sold us and their answer was if the car is over 7 years old and 100,000 miles they can’t help. I think that’s total [XXX]!!! I have never had a car that the transmission went before 100,000 miles. Ford customer Service is a joke. There was just a huge recall on their F-150’s for transmission problems. They are making dangerous vehicles and they need to fix them. It’s not fair that you buy a vehicle for $30,000 or more and then you have to replace the transmission and turbocharger just over 100,000 miles. On June 21,2024 the transmission on the vehicle prevented the shifter from moving the transmission into the intended gear and caused the vehicle to think it was in park. Due to car unable to move forward accidents could have been caused.

While driving home going about 40 mph my Ford Escape lost acceleration and then completely shut off IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! I was able to "limp" it to the side of the street where it would not start at all. I then placed it in reverse (as I was on a hill) to roll it backwards into a neighborhood to get it out of the way of on coming traffic. It was 10 PM at night! I waited for a few minutes and was able to get it to start but not change gears. I was able to get it to my neighborhood with hazards on going barely 10mph. It literally rolled into my driveway where it has been since (November 2023).
I was pulling out onto a major highway and my car quit shifting. Which caused me to be stranded in the middle of a busy highway.
While driving the car shuddered and then shut off. The transmission light came on with a warning about 5 minutes after it shut off. So there was never a warning and we were unable to get it to go back into any gear.
The APIM failed. This is a safety issue in this day and age of cell phones. We are not to use our cell phones while driving.
I was driving home in 2016 Ford Escape and I noticed the RPM's getting higher and higher, but car's speed was actually declining. All maintenance work has been done at Maxwell d in Austin TX. Never had any problems with the transmission and no warning lights, nothing. Until this day....Transmission fault, Service Soon. I was close to being home, so somehow I made it. Be then, everybody wanted know what was going on so did i. I called the dealership, talked to Andrew and made arrangements for car to be towed to Ford on Tuesday, October 3rd. They finally looked at it the car on Monday the 9th....new transmission and labor, almost $8,000. I can not afford that. Having it towed to another repair shop. Getting an estimate from second shop. Rear door inner panels will not allow the doors to be opened. I replaced them and it is doing it again. Ford says replace them again and save receipt in case it gets recalled. I can not let my grandchildren or any one else for that matter ride in the back they would be trapped in an accident!!
The rear view backup camera is faulty and doesn't always work. Sometimes it comes on, but most of the time it just doesn't turn on. There is no specific set of circumstances that dictates if it will work or not.
Back Over Prevention ( backup camera), started acting up in Feb 2023, shows black screen, flips image, does not come on, (radio is displayed) when it does come on its granny and has black vertical lines, warning beeps stop working when this happens or don't sound off untill your on top of the person or object behing you. Contacted 2 Ford dealerships and they tell me other Escapes are on recall just not my year and no replacement camera is available.
Code p2111 Dealership said throttle body needs to be replaced. Vehicle has only 67,336 miles. Was driving and the warning on the dash appeared “service engine now.” I lost the ability to accelerate. Coasted out of traffic with what little ability the vehicle had left. Would have caused an accident in heavier traffic. Vehicle was towed to Ford dealership where diagnosed. This same problem occurred on earlier years
I know Ford issued a recall for the backup cameras failing on 2020 year models, including the Ford Escape. However, I have consistently had this same issue with my 2016 Escape. In the middle of backing up, the camera will go completely out, and I am not able to see anything behind the car. This is extremely dangerous, as I have 4 young grandchildren, not to mention other kids in our neighborhood who ride bikes, etc. This should also be addressed in the Ford recall for backup cameras. This issue occurs every time I drive the car - it works for about 5 - 10 seconds, then stops working. So the date below is just today's date, but it happens almost every day.
Backup camera glitches and goes to the radio screen mid-reverse. I’ve nearly hit a tree. This has begun happening frequently. Sometimes the camera won’t even turn on.
Car wouldn’t shift properly. Had to drift off to side of road. Could then shut car off and restart but could only go a little bit and problem reoccurred. It was dangerous if other cars were around and not able to get to side of road. Check Transmission came on dash. Car has 68000 miles on this shouldn’t happen. Escape should have been recalled like other 2016 transmission problems! Needed to be towed! Dealer says new transmission is needed $7000! This is my 3rd escape and never had this problem. Car isn’t driven hard - pleasure use The consumer stated that this is a known issue with other 2016 Ford Escapes.
The lug nuts on all of my tires are swollen beyond the size of the provided tire iron. This makes it impossible to change a flat tire and causes the nuts to become damaged when they tires get balanced and rotated. Two tire technicians have explained that this is common on Ford vehicles. I now have to buy replacements for all of my tires.
My engine light came on today and the code P0299 popped. It’s for the turbo. I’m reading that this happens a lot and they have had to replace the turbo completely
Rear camera dosnt always want to work at times when backing up, there will be times where it comes on and cuts out , or it cuts out and comes back on on all pixelised (distorted) , or it dosnt come on at all , then there are times where it works , ive had my mechanic look into it and couldnt figure out the issue ...i did buy an oem backup camera from the junkyard off an escape 3 years newer then mine but didnt fix the issue
Rear passenger door came open while driving with my granddaughter in vehicle. No warning just flew open while driving. Vehicle is at dealer getting door latch replaced. There were recalls for the exact same problem on several ford escapes but apparently mine is not in that recall. I want this looked into please. As this could have caused injury or death if my granddaughter had not been properly restrained. Do not have any report from dealer as is still in shop being repaired.
i had just got done driving for about an hour and stopped for about 5 minutes. i left the car running and came back out to it. when i put it in reverse it wasn’t going so i put it back in park and waited a few minutes. i tried it again and it worked a little bit but it still wasn’t shifting right. i was able to get reversed but when i shifted to drive and it wouldn’t drive/shift. So i decided to just park it and leave it.
Anytime I run the heat and the car is idling, there is a very strong gas smell. I am guessing that when the car is moving, the air flow pushes/pulls it out as it's not as strong then. It's strong enough to make you cough and I would guess make you sick if you didn't turn the heat off. It's been occurring since October and happens every time I try to use the heat. I took it to Gaplin Ford in Prescott to get it looked at. Instead of being honest and saying they couldn't figure out what the problem was and reaching out to Ford corporate, they lied and said the smell went away. It in fact did not go away. They 100% lied about the smell going away. After picking up my car, I no sooner got to the stop light at the edge of their property and the gas smell was there. I'm guessing they can't find a leak, but a gas smell is nothing to just brush off. I just took the car in this past week, I work from home and we don't always use my car so we didn't realize this was an actual issue until recently, and the car didn't just get gas spilled on it or run over spilled gas at a gas station.
Hi, we have a 2016 Ford escape ecoboost Titanium that upon ramping up speed to get on a highway, hesitates and loses power. Our son who was driving felt multiple tugs from the steering wheel and then very quickly had to get to the side of the road as a message appeared “loss of power”, the car was going into limp mode. He turned the car off but it was weird in that it didn’t seem to be fully off. We think the battery may be involved here but can only tell you that when police arrived we could not roll down windows or do anything electrical - when we outside, only one hazard light was flashing. We took it into the Van Horn Ford in Sheboygan, Wisconsin where it is currently. We’ve had it towed 3 times. The first 2 times the dealership said there were no codes to go by. Since it happened 2 times after stopping for gas then getting on highway we thought maybe it was the gas. We had the fuel tank emptied and flushed, the fuel injectors flushed and were returned the car. This last time, I had driven 2 hours to Madison, parked the car for an hour then started back. I was ramping up speed and I felt tugging on the steering and was terrified. I decided not to stop to get gas but see if I could make it home (2 hours). I did. After letting the car rest I went 1 mile to get gas at our local gas station. The battery light came on and the car wasn’t shutting down properly. I filled up with gas and got the car back to my garage. It would not start the next day, so we had it towed. Dealership said that because multiple codes came out due to battery failure. New battery installed and dealer was able to recreate problem with no codes. We are pulling our hair out. The info I find online seems EXACTLY to match problems that ford owners have resolved with a new ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY. We haven’t tried this yet. This is a dangerous situation. Please advise. Received a Recall letter notice 22S43/NHTSA Recall22V413 on my 2016 Escape Titanium about the damaged transmission shifter cable bushing damaged or missing. Said I would get letter when parts came in but never got a letter to schedule an appt. with dealership and I received the letter in July 2022. I received the recall on my car for the transmission shifter cable in July. When I went to get my oil changed in August I had asked about getting it fixed. However they just highlighted the portion that said parts aren’t available until 4th quarter. Moving forward on Sept 21, my shifter cable broke. I didn’t know that was the problem and brought it to the closest car mechanic due to safety. I never received any mail or notification that the parts were in stock yet but surprisingly Ford had it in stock to ship to the Expert Car Care my care was at. If I had known I could have fixed it this issue would have been avoided. I’m requesting a reimbursement for the amount I paid to get it fixed. I have a copy of the receipt. Thank you.
My coolant leaked into the cylinders of my engine causing a complete engine failure. When this occurred, there was no warning lights, indicators or check engine notices to notify me that there was a problem with my engine. I was driving down the street & white smoke started billowing out of the back of my car. I was able to make it home but had to have it towed to the dealership. This is a known issue with Ford, with a current lawsuit pending, due to the design of the engine. I have been advised that there are technical bulletins distributed within Ford and the dealer acknowledged there was nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening. My engine was already replaced due to the same defect when it had 34,000 miles on it. This was covered under warranty and the engine was replaced at a Ford dealership. The first time this happened, I was traveling on the freeway and my lights and power completely shut down while I was driving at night and my engine almost started on fire. I also had no warning lights, overheating or check engine notices when that happened. It now has 94,500 miles. This means I have needed 2 engine replacements for the same defect in less than 100,000 miles. The Price Ford dealership in Turlock, CA has quoted me $10,600 to replace the engine, which I am responsible to pay, and advised me to call corporate when I told them of the lawsuit. Ford's Corporate Office advised me that there isn't anything they can do because there isn't a recall issued yet, even though this a known documented issue of their defected engine design.
To Whom It May Concern: I am the owner of a 2016 Ford Escape and received a recall notice in July of 2022. The notice stated that the issue is: “On your vehicle, t may be possible the transmission shifter cable bushing is damaged or missing.” My vehicle has 97,000 miles on it. On Monday, August 8, I was driving on Interstate 480E. All of sudden my car began driving erratically and went from 70 mph to 60 mph and down to 40 mph with it feeling as though it was going to stall. Fortunately, I was able to move over two lanes and get it on a berm and immediately turned it off and activated my hazards. I called the Garfield Heights, Ohio, Police Department and was told I would be sent a police cruiser for safety reasons. I also called a tow truck since I was about 30 miles from my home. I had the car towed to Lakeside Certified Auto, 38525 Lakeshore Boulevard, Willoughby, Ohio. The technician that inspected the vehicle called to tell me that the transmission had a broken clutch and that it would be extremely expensive ($5,500 for a used transmission with 60,000 miles or $6,500 for a remanufactured transmission with a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty) repair. I have had an Extended Warranty on my vehicle which (unfortunately) had expired in May 2022. I am sending this email just to see if I am covered for this unfortunate occurrence. I can only be thankful that my car did not stall on the freeway and that I did make it to safety. The alternative is unthinkable! Thank you for your time and consideration.

The transmission begin to go out. It would not drive even though the car was running when we stopped at a stop light. Also an transmission fault error came on.
While operating the vehicle, the transmission shifter failed to appropriately shift into the intended gear position, which caused the car to not drive when the gear was in “drive” the car would not move forward when pushing on the gas pedal which left us in an extremely dangerous predicament. The intended function of the transmission was completely unreliable. When shifting the transmission to or from the “Park” position, the transmission was unpredictable and did not sufficiently and safely put the car in the park position or in the intended position and significantly increased the risk of injury or crash. The car was inoperable because the transmission was no longer functioning properly or safely enough to drive and we had no other choice but to have the car towed and the repair fixed in order to have a safe functioning vehicle. Because of the safety recall for the same issue, we are requesting a full refund totaling $3,500.09 for the repaired issue.
Speed is slow when Pressing gas and it makes a roaring sound they stops driving
I was driving and my car felt like it changed from drive to neutral without any physical prompt on my part. The for escape kept rolling away and I was able to bring it to a parking lot. I was able to turn the vehicle off and tried turning it back on again. It felt like it was changing gears without being touched. It kept trying to move forward and reversing when it was on park. I was scared so I turned the car off and put the emergency break because of the strange shifting between gears that was happening. I had to have the vehicle towed as it is now inoperable. It is at the shop and is currently untouched . A few days later I found found has recalled my vehicle for transmission issues. I am now careless with no help in sight.
The ecm become disconnected driving down the road causing the car to loose complete power. 1 week later steering failure warning alert on info cluster immediately followed by complete steering failure alert on info cluster. Loss of steering and control of car. Towed to Asheville Ford & Lincoln in Asheville NC for inspection. Receipt from Asheville Ford & Lincoln provided. Confirmed steering failure. The vehicle was NOT in any accident since my purchase of the car. Prior to my purchase of this car, it was in an accident reported by previous owner and not disclosed by the dealership. I located insurance receipts in glovebox of car where a body shop had done repairs resulting from an accident. My car was under extended warranty at that time however my claim was denied because I used a zip tie to secure the ecm back to the car when it disconnected. I couldn’t get the car in the shop to have it repaired right away and while waiting for an appointment from Ford, the incedent with the steering failure happened. I have plenty of notes, receipts and documentation of this situation and previous repairs made to the car prior to me purchasing it. Please let me know if any further info is needed and I’ll be glad to provide it. Ford instead voided my warranty without any written or verbal notice to me about anything. Ford Sync 3 system malfunctions randomly. GPS will show inaccurate location and inaccurate directions leading to misguiding down wrong street or wrong ways. Additionally, backup camera may not display on the screen which is a safety hazard when backing up. Problem may be related to the APIM which is a known issue in many of their other vehicles.
The contact owned a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated when attempting to park, the steering wheel locked and the engine accelerated independently fast. As a result, the contact crashed into a curb, over a snow-bank, down the ditch, and came to a stop crashing into a tree. There were no injuries sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Vehicle caught fire while sitting in my driveway after being driven 30-45 minutes prior. No prior issues with the vehicle. No warning lights or messages while driving vehicle home. Drive home from work was approximately 1 hour drive time. I heard car horn blowing and looked outside to find car engulfed in flames. Local fire dept and police responded. My vehicle stopped shifting as I was on the highway. I had to pull over to the side. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership where I bought it and I've been told the transmission needs a total rebuild. The is a 2016 Ford Escape with under 100,000 miles. Yesterday we experienced a complete engine fail in our 2016 Ford Escape because coolant leakage caused a hole in engine block. We have about 80000 miles in our vehicle and regularly maintain it. Going to cost about 6,000 to replace entire engine.
Rear door on drivers side will not open from the inside after it has been locked and unlocked unless it has been opened already. It something is wrong with the child lock. This is a major safety issue. Someone on the outside has to open the door to let the person out. If there was an accident or some type of incident and the person needed to get out quickly they would not be able to.
According to the dealership the throttle body is putting the vehicle in Limp mode and the car dies out because of it. Ford has had a recall on vehicles with the same issue. However, the dealership wants yo charge 469.04 for the repair.
Only had for a week, and vehicle has trouble at 40mph when shifting, slips or hesitates/misfires when driving at lower speeds, but drives ok past 55mph. Not sure if it is engine or transmission and was recently bought from dealership that said they checked it over, and now after a week I have to take it back in because I do not want it to be anything fuel related ever since it is Ecoboost engine and do not want it to catch fire while driving. Also the trunk will open with remote and only occasionally close with remote, does not work.
While driving approximately 1-5 mph the vehicle shuts off and and will not move when the gas peddle is pressed. The vehicle engine light comes on. Vehicle operator has to press the power button in order to shut off the car, put the car in park, and press the power button to turn the car back on. Vehicle then works as intended.

WITH THE GEAR SELECTOR IN PARK I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD AND THE ONLY WAY THAT I COULD STOP IT WAS TO STEP ON THE BRAKES AND THEN PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON TO KEEP THE CAR FROM CONTINUING TO ROLL FORWARD. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK DRIVER TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HE SHOWED THAT THE BUSHINGS THAT CONNECTS THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE WAS BROKEN. MY RESEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS IS SAME SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD HAD WITH PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS OF THE FORD ESCAPE RESULTING IN A VEHICLE RECALLED. IT SEEMS THAT THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE 2016 MODEL YEAR AS WELL, AS I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FORD ESCAPE 2016 MODEL YEAR VEHICLE THAT OTHER CONSUMERS EXPERIENCED WITH EARLIER MODEL YEAR FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES. THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THIS CAR FROM ROLLING FORWARD AT ANYTIME EVEN IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF IS TO KEEP ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. MY LAST EXPERIENCE WAS FRIGHTENING AND I DON'T THINK THAT THIS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE WITH THAT SUDDEN STOP I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR END. MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER WITH MY PASSENGER AND ALSO THE TRUCK DRIVER WHO CAME UP BEHIND ME BLOWING BECAUSE HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. TO BE IN THAT SITUATION BY SEEING A VEHICLE COMING TOWARDS YOU AND YOUR VEHICLE IS STATIONERY IN THE ROAD AND IN THE END THE PERSON WHO REAR END YOU WOULD BE AT FAULT. THIS KEEP ON HAPPENING AND I THINK THIS IS A DANGER TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS, THE PUBLIC BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE CANNOT BE CONTROLLED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WHEN ACCELERATING ON A HIGHWAY (GOING 55 - 60 MPH) VEHICLE ABRUPTLY SHIFTS GEAR AND SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN TO THE POINT OF THINKING THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE AND THEN A FEW DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE STARTED HESITATING TERRIBLY WHERE THE CAR WAS HOPPING DOWN THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. THEN AT A LIGHT IT STALLED OUT COMPLETELY AND I WAS NEARLY HIT. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE BEYOND 30 MPH. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE FOLLOWING DAY WHERE IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO THEM. NO CODES PRESENT, BUT A COUPLE HISTORICAL CODES FOR SENSORS. THEY INDICATED THEY WERE UNSURE IF THE SENSORS WERE THE ISSUE, BUT REPLACED. PICKED VEHICLE UP AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TODAY. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY THIS TIME, BUT THE CALL COMPLETELY STALLED AT LOW SPEED WITH AC ON AND MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THIS TIME EITHER. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE CURRENTLY UNSURE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. THIS ISSUE SEEMS SIMILAR TO OTHER REPORTS AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I AM HAPPY TO PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. I WILL BE ESCALATING THIS UNTIL APPROPRIATELY RESOLVED. ON DECEMBER 13, 2017 I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING IN FRONT OF A PLACE OF BUSINESS, THE BUSINESS WAS IN A PUBLIC PARKING LOT AND I WAS GOING AT MOST 25 MPH BEFORE STARTING TO PARK. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND WAS 1/4-1/2 WAY IN THE PARKING PLACE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, THE CAR WENT THRU THE PLATE GLASS WINDOW, THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS HURT! THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND AS I WAS THE ONLY VEHICLE I WAS FOUND AT FAULT, CAUSE 'EXCESSIVE SPEED'. THE CAR ACCELERATED SO FAST I DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO REACT. THE TIRES DID NOT TOUCH THE CURB AND SEEMED TO FLY THRU THE AIR. MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALED DUE TO THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END AND FRAME. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IT APPEARS TO BE A THROTTLE ISSUE - STUCK OPEN. I DO HAVE A POLICE REPORT IF NEEDED BUT IT ONLY SAYS I WAS AT FAULT, EXCESSIVE SPEED AND THAT THE BUILDING WAS DAMAGED.

WATER LEAK - WHEN DRIVING IN ANY DEGREE OF RAIN, WATER LEAKS INTO THE CEILING SOMEWHERE. WE HAVE NO LUGGAGE RACK, NO SUNROOF, NO OBVIOUS SOURCES WHERE A LEAK MIGHT FORM. THE WATER GATHERS IN THE FRONT CEILING-LIGHTS AND DRIPS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S LEGS. WATER BUILDS UP IN THE CEILING FOAM AND VISIBLE WATERMARKS FORM ON THE WINDSHIELD SUPPORT ARMS AND NEAR THE SUN-VISORS. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE, IT APPEARS THIS IS NOT A SINGULAR EVENT BUT RATHER A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE FORD ESCAPES IN RECENT YEARS. COUNTLESS PEOPLE NOTING THAT THEY TOOK THEIR ESCAPES TO FORD DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAKS. IT HAS BEEN BLAMED ON EVERYTHING FROM EXTREME CONDENSATION LEVELS INSIDE THE CAR TO SOME TYPE OF VENT INTO THE CAR BEING BLOCKED AND BUILDING UP EXCESS FLUIDS...NONE OF WHICH MAKES ANY SENSE.
REAR END KNOCKING SOUND AFTER AND DURING BACKING UP, ALSO DURING LOW SPEED. THE ELECTRONIC RADIO, SYNC3, AUDIO SCREEN WILL NOT TURN ON IN MILDLY COLD TEMPERATURES (20F DEGREES).

THE BACK HATCH CAN BE FOOT ACTIVATED, BUT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, SUCH AS SITTING ON THE BACK BUMPER AND PUTTING ON GOLF SHOES, I'VE ACCIDENTALLY SLIPPED A FOOT BACKWARDS WHILE BENDING OVER, WHICH HAS ACTIVATED THE HATCH TO CLOSE, AND IT'S CLOSED ON MY HEAD SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, WITH THE BACK SEATS FOLDED DOWN, AND TRYING TO PUSH SOMETHING AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE, MY FOOT WOULD SLIP UNDER THE CAR ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE THE DOOR, CLOSING ON ME. IT'S ALSO HAPPENED WHILE UNLOADING GROCERIES IF MY FOOT GETS TOO CLOSE TO THE BUMPER. I'VE HAD THE BACK HATCH HIT MY HEAD WELL OVER A DOZEN TIMES SINCE I LEASED THIS VEHICLE. AT ALL TIMES THE CAR WAS PARKED, AND NOT TURNED ON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THIS FEATURE (FOOT ACTIVATION ONLY) COULD BE DEACTIVATED, BUT THEY TELL ME IT CANNOT BE. SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT BY THE HATCH CLOSING ON THEIR HEAD.

I WANT TO REPORT A LIFE/HEALTH SAFETY ISSUE FOR A VEHICLE THAT I RENTED AT REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT ON 17 JULY 2016 AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE ON 20 JULY 2016. THE VEHICLE THAT WE RENTED IS A 2016 FORD ESCAPE RED, PLATE NUMBER NC EAL2306 AND BUDGET CAR NUMBER 45880623. WE ONLY DROVE THE CAR ON SUNDAY THE 17TH THREE OF THE FOUR OCCUPANTS HAD THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS: HEADACHE, DIZZINESS, AND NAUSEA AFTER ONLY A FEW MINUTES IN THE CAR WITH THE A/C ON IN RE-CIRCULATION MODE. THE REASON I REMEMBER THIS DETAIL IS THAT THE TEMPERATURES WERE VERY HOT AND WE WERE TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR COOL INSIDE AS THE VEHCILE HAS BLACK LEATHER SEATS. WE STOPPED BY A RESTAURANT FOR LUNCH AND MY WIFE THOUGHT SHE HAD SOME BAD FOOD. SHE HAD SEVERE NAUSEA, HEADACHE, AND OTHER UPPER RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS. OUR DAUGHTER HAD SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. I HAD SINUS DRAINAGE, A HEADACHE AND DIZZINESS. WE WENT OUT LATER IN THE DAY TO CHECK THE ROUTE FOR OUR DAUGHTER'S VOLLEYBALL CAMP AND WE'RE IN THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR AND A HALF. SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED WITH THREE OF FOUR OCCUPANTS.
I BOUGHT MY 2016 FORD ESCAPE BACK IN JANUARY BRAND NEW AND AT 12,000 WHILE DRIVING IT ON A BUSY STREET, THE ENGILE LIGHT COMES ON AND IT STARTS SHOWING A MESSAGE THAT SAYS "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW". IT IS VERY SCARY WHEN THAT HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING IT SINCE IT JUST STARTS SHAKING AND IT WON'T GO ANYWHERE. WE HAVE HAD A 2011 FORD ESCAPE THAT HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND IT GOT RECALLED FOR IT. YOU WOULD THINK THAT FORD WOULD BUILD THEIR NEWER VEHICLES SAFER AFTER KNOWING THAT THEIR OLDER VERSIONS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. THANKFULLY WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER AND THEY ARE GOING TO FIX IT HOHOPEFULLY. BUT IT SUCKS BECAUSE IT'S OUR ONLY VEHICLE WE USE TO GET TO WORK AND THEY HAD NO LOANERS AVAILABLE. HOPEFULLY FORD DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
