Received transmission fault error while driving the car (car was in motion). Car could not accelerate despite appkying pressure to the accelerator. Car failed to to shift while car was in motion. Vehicle stalled 3 times on the date indicated. Had vehicle diagnosed at a ford dealer. Requires a remanufactured transmission thats costs $7500 (more than the vehicle is worth). This is a known issue among 3rd gen ford escapes.
Multiple failures occurred while driving with my kids in the car from what we can tell an electrical system failure of the parking brake motor as well as a transmission failure it is unknown at this time whether the parking brake motor failed causing stress on the transmission or the transmission fault led to the end Electric motor failure of the parking brake
Had vehicle in shop for axle repair, as soon as I got home transmission went out when I was about to turn onto a main road with 2 kids in my car. My car felt like it was in neutral but it wasn’t. Barely got back to my parking spot. Seeing this is a common issue with my car and I think it should be covered under a recall
This vehicle is driven by my [XXX] 3 things happened the third can cause an accident leading to death or a multi car accident. #1 [XXX] driving on the freeway she heard a squeeling noise like a belt slipping then went away and has not retuned. i checked belts and idlers all ok. #2 [XXX] heard loud ticking under floorboard of car driving on the freeway car seemed to drive normally then ticking went away. #3 [XXX] driving on the freeway steering wheel pulled the car aggressively to left almost causing a multi car accident cars behind and to the left were swerving to avoid hitting other cars. She was able to control the car back straight again luckily the car to her left was not next to her but at her rear bumper or she would have hit that car pushing it into cars in all the lanes to the left. After an internet search I discovered that Ford has had problems with their transfer cases (PTU) and its rare but people have reported issues with the car pulling hard left for no reason. I mention the three steps that happened previous to the steering wheel incident because from my research these are the warring signs before the transfer case goes out. This vehicle is a 2018 Ford Escape AWD 35,000 original miles p.s. Ford customer service was notified of this safety issue on December 6, 2025 my Case# [XXX] Response was not covered i will be repairing this vehicle and I will retain all the old parts for your convenience if you need them for further inspection or investigation. To whom this concerns: My name is [XXX] and I’m writing this on the behalf of my wife [XXX] , but her last name was [XXX] years ago. My wife purchases a 2018 Ford Escape. Car was working completely fine and there were no problems. As time went on, we had to take our vehicle to Jordan Ford where the car was purchased. The issue with the car was something called Engine intrusion. We took it to Jordan Ford, and they told is this needed to be fixed. The cost was around 5,000 which was a lot for this. Then we found out that this vehicle had a recall on it for the exact same issue that we were having. Looking at the recall, it said that we had to give them this by a certain date. We were too late on that date so the recall could not be honored. We called Ford and told them about the problem with the vehicle and they were willing to knock the price down. I told them that is not fair that we must pay for a problem that is a recall. We did not get the car fixed and they knew about it. Now, it looks like our Ford Escape has the exact same issue, but now they are saying that we must pay over 8,000 to replace the short block because it’s over-heating. Well, we found out that this car was purchased after the recall was in motion and we were not told about it. It is not fair that this vehicle has had this many problems and Ford knew about it. My vehicle stooped running. I scheduled maintenance at Metro Ford. According to the diagnostic test completed at Metro Ford, there were powertrain issues. This diagnosis also appears on my Ford Motor Pass app. According to the service department at Metro Ford, coolant was leaking into the engine and that a new water pump and battery needs to be installed to get the car back running. We complied with the cost ($2,400 this included new water pump and battery) and 30 days later the car stopped running again. The car was towed back to Metro Ford and we were told that the engine is dead and that a new diagnostic check will need to be done with an additional $410 on top of the $2,400 which was paid to get the water pump and other items fixed previously. We were never informed that the engine will need to be replaced after the first diagnostic check. That information should have been told first since you are running the same check that now tells you the engine is dead.
On 10/17/2025, my transmission stop working properly after driving fine for 145,000 miles. This seems to be a common occurrence with this year and model for the Escape. The transmission is an automatic and stopped going in the drive gear on the highway. I was able to get the car off the road and have it towed to a mechanic where they verified that that I would need a new transmission.
Our family has been on the middle of the highway when the Escape has just shut off. We here in Charleston, WV are not the only ones with this issue. We have contacted FORD multiple times on this. The engine failure about 6-7 years ago was the start. Coolant leaking into the cylinder, which is a service bulletin not a recall, prompted the engine to be extensively repaired or replace. Then after this nothing was ever the same. Todd Judy Ford which has been through a rebrand because of all the bad business here in Charleston WV has been since renamed to Downtown Ford, was made aware of every issue along the way. FORD stopped helping, dealership doesn't care. This was a major issue that caused our family's Ford Escape to just stop in the middle of driving in traffic. My wife could have been killed. The electrical and the engine in a severe issue on this year, make and model. Please do something. They have millions of issue with this specific engine and this model and will do nothing. Someone needs to stop them!
Engine light came on. It came up as misfire cylinder 3 needing spark plugs/Ignition coil so I made an appointment to get that fixed. On my way to my appointment today, the “engine overheating stop vehicle” warning came on. Turns out this is the known coolant intrusion into the engine block problem that has caused the engine to crack and now needs replaced. Called Ford customer service and just like what they are telling everyone else, there is nothing they can do to help. Yes it’s a known problem by Ford but they will not fix it because my car does not meet mileage criteria. It has 130,000 miles.
My motor had to be replaced due to coolant intrusion. Now my transmission has to be replaced as well. It was definitely faulty. I have letters from the Ford dealership that worked on my car and put the new motor in. It was caused by coolant intrusion.
To whom it may concern, I am writing to express my deep frustration regarding a serious issue with my Ford vehicle. My vehicle recently displayed code P0302 – Misfire Cylinder 2, which has been diagnosed as coolant intrusion into the cylinder. The recommended repair is a replacement long block, along with new hardware and seals. This is a known issue with certain Ford engines — one that Ford previously covered under warranty or service campaigns prior to 2023. My vehicle has fewer than 60,000 miles, yet it has suffered a major engine failure clearly tied to a manufacturing defect. Ford and even U.S. government agencies are aware of this widespread issue. Unfortunately, Ford is now refusing to take responsibility for a defect they have long known about. It’s extremely disappointing to see such disregard for loyal customers. This experience has completely eroded my trust in Ford. It’s clear why so many Americans are turning to foreign manufacturers — companies that take accountability and fix known problems instead of ignoring them. I will never purchase a Ford again, and I will be sharing my experience so that others are aware of how these issues are being handled.
Engine failure due to coolant intrusion design defect that Ford DID NOT pay for it. Even though, since Match 1, 2025, there have been over 320 complaints regarding this issue. NHTSA should communicate to Ford, these vehicles should be recalled!
I’ve seen others report on the same issues and hopefully this brings something up for a recall. At first it was a misfire in the engine, and oil getting into the spark plugs. Then coolant leaking. Then overheating. I looked into the codes and took it into the shop and it’s going to cost me 8-12,000 to fix due to the same issue that other people all seem to be having.
Coolant intrusion, damaged engine
I am at 123,000 miles, older driver that primarily drives around town. I have been having issues with the transmission lagging, I had the transmission serviced but the problem persists. The transmission shop tried to reset the transmission, however it will not reset. It was diagnosed with an issue with the 3rd/5th gears (related), and suspected to have an issue with the gears plate. Far too few miles to have this happening.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to Christian Brothers Automotive, where it was inspected, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption and the coolant level was abnormally low. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. Additionally, the contact stated that the message "Power Train Malfunction" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12 (GTDI Engine – Short Block Replacement After Coolant Intrusion). The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. The failure mileage was approximately 80,188.

FORD DESIGN FLAW IN 1.5 ECOBOOST ENGINE IN A 2018 ESCAPE WITH 91K MILES CAUSING WATER INTRUSION INTO CYLINDER WHICH CAUSES ENGINE TO RUN DANGEROUSLY BAD. FORD KNEW OF DESIGN FLAW BUT NEGLECTED ISSUE RECALL BUT DID ISSUE CSP 21N12 FORD WILL NOT ASSIST BECAUSE OF ENDING PROGRAM IN LATE 2022.
Coolant leaking into engine. Check engine light on. Codes p0302, p0316, u0140. I was told by the ford dealership that ran codes that the only correction for the issue is a full long block replacement.
My 2018 Ford Escape 1.5L Ecoboost experience rough starts for about a week. Then on the highway the engine temperature gage shot all the way to hot, the check engine light began flashing, and the vehicle started rumbling. We parked and had the vehicle towed. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as coolant intrusion into the cylinder. It has cracked the engine block. This issue is known to be a problem by Ford. The dealership mechanic knew what the problem just from the make, model, and year. Ford released a letter to all dealerships to attempt a computer repair in 2022, apparently to buy time as they knew there were going to be issues as these vehicles aged. The letter suggests that Ford and the Dealers are to contact anyone who purchased these vehicles. We were not contacted. We have contacted Ford and their customer service representatives say that Ford has a Customer Satisfaction Program, 21N12, in place to fix these vehicles, but it "is not attached to our VIN" and there is nothing they can do. When you ask for a supervisor, they call from a Toll Free Number after 8:00pm and tell you the same thing. "That program isn't attached to your VIN" and there is nothing they can do about it.
I lost engine power trying to accelerate while entering the highway. Check Engine light flashed several times then went steady. I pulled over into the slow lane with my flashers on and with reduced power to get off the highway exit straight to the Dealer. The Check Engine light stayed on steady. This is apparently part of a known issue with the 1.5l GTDI engine. There was a Technical Service Bulletin created for it 22-2322 and a Customer Service Program fix was set up- 21N12
We started to notice a rough idle when starting the vehicle, the check engine light came on. The rough idle continued to get worse. We took it to a Certified Mechanic to have it inspected. Based upon the check engine status, they did further diagnosis through various tests. They determined that the coolant appeared to be seeping into the #1 cylinder. They checked the Ford website for any recalls and found a TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin} # 19-2346 regarding the 2.0L Eco-Boost engine. Ford's TSP says to replace the engine block, but does not indicate at who's expense. If this is defective and Ford knows, the consumer should not be responsible to pay for this major expense. What do we do? Within the ;next couple weeks we plan to take the car into a Ford Dealership to do their own diagnosis.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to shift into gear properly, with the transmission warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to shift into reverse and was unable to operate while in reverse. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

It started out as a misfire which can be caused by multiple issues, after changing spark plugs and coils, noted low coolant (no visible leaks), white smoke, running rough. Ford dealer diagnosis as coolant intrusion and states a complete long block needs replacement. The cost of this is more than the market value.
I own a 2018 Ford Escape. Current mileage is 58,847 and was serviced regularly. In July of this year, the transmission failed completely while driving. No warnings or symptoms prior to complete failure. I was very lucky that the highway I was traveling on was not busy and I was able to coast into a parking lot. I had to pay a towing fee to have it taken to my local Ford dealer where they informed me my transmission had failed!! The transmission fluid was found to be burnt and contained a lot of metal shavings in it. The cost to replace the transmission with a remanufactured one was over $9500. My local Ford dealer installed a remanufactured transmission on July 22, 2025. I continued to have issues such as shift hesitation and other error messages. I took it back to the dealer on Aug 25, 2025. I requested to the tech that the transmission fluid be checked. He stated that after only 30 days, the oil was already discolored from being too hot and there were metal shavings in the fluid. Only about 600 miles were put on the vehicle since the transmission repair. The service manager stated that it will surely fail again based on the condition of the fluid. The service manager also stated that it is possible that I will need a THIRD transmission! In doing research, I found that my particular model is prone to premature transmission failure. There are several Class Action lawsuits against Ford Motor Co for 2018 - 2020 Escapes for this defective transmission. And in addition, it states that Ford was aware of the issues and yet continued to manufacture vehicles with this particular transmission in it. Why was there no recall issued? Why did Ford Motor Co not make consumers aware of the problem in order to be able to take preventative measures? With 700,000 of these vehicles on the road, this is a serious safety issue which could result in loss of control while driving, and possible catastrophic results. Ford Motor Co should be liable for the defective transmission.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 80 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 85,822.

Blown head gasket which is causing coolant to leak into the cylinders. Check engine light came on at 72,000 miles (leased the car at 71,000) with coolant loss. The problem was diagnosed by an independent service center on 8/19/25, 3 weeks after leasing to buy.
Engine failure. No engine lights are on and vehicle is driving fine, but engine block could crack due to coolant intrusion problem. Coolant intrusion is a defect in the motor well know to Ford and mechanics.Ford customer satisfaction program:21N12 and 19B37.TSB tech. serv. bulleting 22-2134 and 19-2375. Problem has been confirmed by private mechanic shop and Ford dealer. No warning lights, no messages, no symptoms. Problem appeared scheduled maintenance & multipoint inspection.
Coolant intrusion . Coolant leak caused the vehicle to overheat and thus making it unable to drive . Had to tow to a repair facility and they confirmed that it’s a coolant intrusion, a common issue with Ford Escape .Engine warning light came up and there were mis fires in engine. In a week , got an engine overheat warning in the morning when I started the car .

Check engine light first appeared early May 2025 days after the car started running very roughly, then bucking upon startup; local mechanic said may need engine but should go to dealer; dealer towed a couple of days later as engine light had begun to blink and said it couldn't be driven; a few days later dealer reported coolant leaking into combustion chamber and would need a new engine at $12,860. Apparently a known failure as reported in Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229, date 6/9/2022 for vehicles including my 2018 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0 L Ecoboost with only 44k miles, final assembly Louisville KY. Reported danger of engine failure while driving, possible fire.
Blown engine, misfire cylinder 3 coolant leaking into cylinder 3, block cracked...smuttering. problem has been identified by our mechanic, and Ford has been called for a replacement engine. Check engine light was on.
HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER THE END OF APRIL 2025 FOR OIL LEAK THAT THEY DISCOVERED. IT WAS FIXED. THEN ON MAY 8 2025 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO HAD IT TOWED TO FORD DEALER. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY THING WRONG. CAR HAD WHITE SMOKE, SHAKING WHEN STARTING AND SMELLED LIKE OIL. THEY HAD IT 6 DAYS BEFORE RETURNING IT. THEY SAID THE WHITE SMOKE WAS NORMAL FOR AN OLDER CAR BECAUSE THE EXHAUST STSTEM IS OLDER. HUH??? SO THEN ON MAY 29 2025 THE CAR STILL HAD THE WHITE SMOKE WHEN STARTED. MOVED CAR DOWN THE DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET AND IT DIED. IT WOULD NOT MOVE AND WAS SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. CALLED DEALER AGAIN AND ASKED THEM TO TOW IT AGAIN. DEALER SAID THE WALL WAS CRACKED AND THE COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE CYLINDERS AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $10,000.00. OH AND THAT WAS A DISCOUNTED PRICE. THE WARRANTY HAD RAN OUT 86 MILES BEFORE. I ASKED FORD MOTOR CO. IF THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO PROGRAMS TO PAY FOR IT. THEY SOLD A FAULTY VEHICLE AND SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, NOT ME. IT WAS A DANGER TO DRIVE AND WE AS OWNERS WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT IT.
The vehicle flywheel is currently damaged at around 66000 miles. There are currently no warning lights for it at this time. There is a loud knocking sound that is known to get louder when turning the AC on.
At 46000 miles mileage cylinder 3 misfired. This led to sudden engine slowdown on a busy street. Headgasket broke and coolant intruded into engine causing total engine failure.
In the middle of driving without warning, the vehicle started accelerating without shifting. It wasn't til I was pulled off the road and had only neutral that the vehicle had indicated a tranmission/power train issue
Ford is trying to say that my engine is blown, my check engine light came on at 105,000 miles and it said that my cylinder too was misfiring. I brought it to my mechanic and he replaced the coils and the spark plugs and the check engine light kept coming back on within a few hours I took the vehicle to my mechanic five times in three days the last time I took it to my mechanic the vehicle started overheat, there was no power, the vehicle is shaking, and it left me pretty much stuck on the side of the road with a child in my car.

The vehicle was shaking really bad when started. I took the vehicle to a mechanic since it seemed like it was mis-firing. I was told the vehicle was leaking coolant into the 2nd cylinder causing damage to my engine. I was told I needed a whole engine replacement. I called Ford Customer care and was told there is no service programs for my VIN number. I also purchased the extended warranty when purchasing this vehicle which just expired in NOV 2024. I can't believe Ford will not honor this engine replacement when I just saw online this was an ongoing issue and my vehicle was was in the time frame of 96 months or $150,000 mile time frame.
My car had less than 143,000 miles on it and started shuddering going down the highway. I was able to get pulled over and have taken it to a mechanic shop and they diagnosed it as a bad transmission. With metal shavings in the fluid. They also said they had another escape there with exactly the same issue. As well as I have seen that there are now class actions going on for this issue. And that Ford was aware of the issue as a consumer I feel this should not be allowed

Shakes and jerks going down the road. Feels like it's going to shake apart. Currently at the dealership for repair and they diagnosed there is "Coolant entering into the cylinder" Check engine light came on then went off. Did this about 3 times and is currently still on.

I had to replace the engine May 28, 2024. The coolant started mixing with the oil based on the poor design of the engine. Then December 16, 2024, I had to replace the transfer case. Now my transmission has gone out on January 22, 2025. All of this has been out of pocket because I was out of the warranty mileage range. I'm still currently financing the vehicle and have to make all these costly repairs. I'm trying to see what can be done? There is no way a new vehicle like this should be having all these problems especially when it was bought new off the lot.
My transmission started slipping while driving on a main street. It barely moved, less than 1 mph, while accelerating to get to a safe place and not rear ended. This was very dangerous for me and the car behind me. There was no warning prior to this happening and the engine light never came on even after the transmission “slipped”. I had a mechanic check it out and he couldn’t find any codes. It ran decently around the neighborhood but then the next day it started slipping again. Took it ford because this time it said power train failure. Turns out my 2018 ford escape, around 105,00 miles, needed a new transmission with no prior signs of distress. I was quoted 10,000. Ford knows about this problem with their 2018 escapes for a while and has not recalled them. Unacceptable.

Purge valve stuck open causing check engine light to come on. Same as current recall on Ford Focus 2012-2018 vehicles. Ford Escapes within the same time frame should be included in the recall. Every time I fill gas there is a hard turn on since beginning of December. Then check engine light came on and code P1450.

I have the 6F35 transmission in my 2018 Ford Escape. On 11/12/24, while driving, the transmission had a catastrophic failure. The vehicle started jerking, it would not move when giving it gas, and the transmission was whining loudly. After taking my vehicle to a Ford dealer, I learned that the pump inside of the transmission flew apart, causing the transmission to fail and to get metal shavings throughout the transmission and oil cooler system. There was no warning. The vehicle drove normal until it didn't. I never got a warning light, even after the transmission completely failed. I believe this to be a catastrophic failure because I had the transmission fluid changed at a Ford dealership about a month ago and I was not told there were any metal shavings in the fluid and the vehicle drove normal after this service. For a new transmission and oil cooler, Ford is quoting me ~$7,000.

2018 Ford Escape engine coolant leaking into engine oil. 88,000 miles. Car well taken care of. White smoke coming from exhaust. Ford knows of this defect. I am a poor student and owe 8k on this vehicle. This defect should be a required recall.
2018 Ford Escape started jerking when first accelerating. Had it looked at by a service shop and they said they found metal filings in the transmission fluid and it should be replaced. Instead of replacing I decided to try to change the fluid to extend the life. But about 1 week later it completely went out at a stop light and it would not move. It was a very dangerous situation since the car would not move at a busy intersection.
Total engine failure and rebuild due to faulty head gasket component from ford. Vehicle went from running good to all of a sudden having smoke when starting, engine light came on. Immediately had inspected and was told total head gasket/engine failure.

I bought a 2018 Ford Escape 1.5L ecoboost as the 2 or 3rd owner. There were no recalls I checked and also did a carfax when I bought the car 7/4/2024. I was driving the car and all of a sudden the car slows itself down from 50mph to 5mph and give me a warning car is overheating. Got to side of road safely and took to the mechanic he then told me about fords customer satisfaction program but since I have 95k miles my car does not qualifiy as they only gave 4 months to people with 84k miles to get fixed free if you are over they will nto fix. I did not own the car when they sent this out in 2022 and there was nothing made public about this engine isssue they are aware of. I am still sore from the seat belts locking up and have neck issues. this car sits in my garage as a paperweight now.
I have coolant leaking into my engine. There are several misfires occurring ans it doesn’t always start. Have replaced spark plugs and a few hoses. Issue still isn’t resolved
Coolant intrusion into engine cylinders and other components in the powertrain. Warranties and Ford companies DO NOT cover this. It is a factory flaw.
I replaced the engine cause the head gasket was blown previously. 2 months later my check engine goes on and Powertrain - ON Powertrain Trouble Code[s]: P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected Code P0301 indicates that Cylinder 1 had too many misfires within a predetermined period of time. P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected P0300 Random Misfire Detected P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected Secondary Trouble Code[s]: P0300, P0304, P0301, P0300, P0304
The torque converter was bad. My car was shaking at stop sign, light, or in traffic jam. Had to put in neutral every time I was in those situations. Car would stall pulling out on a hill or incline. I was in dangerous situations
While driving I received a ‘Engine Failure, Service Now’ notification; however, the check engine light was not on. I immediately called a ford dealership and said it was fine. I did not trust it and took it to an O’Reilley’s store to get a free diagnostics, everything was cleared. The next morning I still went to the dealership to ask. At this point the notification wasn’t on anymore but I did notice there was no coolant in the tank. They ran a regular diagnostics and told me car was fine. Again, I didn’t trust it and asked for more diagnostics. After charging me $200 they did it and found coolant leaking into the engine and cylinders. Car still runs but it did not make me feel safe driving with the notification and the rest of the diagnostics showing zero issues was extremely suspicious. They told me my engine needed to be replaced. I researched the issue and found Ford notified widely this issue in early 2020 and ford dealership sold me this in late 2020 and never told me about said issue or notification. I was told there is a program to get it fixed but is not active anymore. On too of that, ford had a warning on my car VIN number for two years and they never notified me of it during service appointments for the last 2 to 4 years I have been going there. I do not feel safe driving my car and ford won’t do any repairs about it even after they admitted to me it was a manufacturing fault and my car is under that block/build affected.
Coolant leak caused engine failure while I was driving. Engine warning came on and alerted me the Engine was overheating and to pull over as soon as it was safe to do so. I did immediately and had the car towed to Ford dealer garage
It is a power train failure. Hi my name is [XXX] I bought a 2018 Ford escape SE 1.5L eco boost on 9-3-2022 and it had 75,000 miles on it. I’m now finding out that it had a recall (21N12) when I bought it that expired at 84,000 miles. My car is now at 120,000 miles and my engine needs to be replaced. I was never told about the recall and was still sold the car that didn’t even last 2 YEARS!!!!! Now it’s going to be $8,000 to replace my motor. Coolant began leaking into the cylinders causing my car to overheat while driving making this dangerous
Vehicle has less than 100k miles and has an engine failure resulting from coolant intrusion. Ford support admits this is a known issue but refuses to give any remedial action to solve it because the nhtsa handles recalls not them. They will not tell me anything unless I pay to have it towed to a dealer and pay for diagnostics.
Coolant Leak, engine damage, overheated engine

I received my car back from All Star Ford on [XXX] with a rebuilt transmission installed. Since the repairs were under warranty I only had to pay $100 out of pocket. The following week I took the car in to have an oil change. The car seemed to run fairly well until [XXX]. The car started to make a strange rattling noise and a notification popped up saying that I needed to get an oil change soon. I thought this to be pretty strange as I had just got an oil change in April 2024 after I received the car back. I decided to take the car to get an oil change on [XXX] in which comments were noted that there was a major oil leak present and transmission fluid leaking as well. The following day on [XXX], as I was out and about, the car started to make the rattling noise louder as I started the car. I shifted the car in reverse to back out of a parking spot and then when I shifted into drive the car would not accelerate. I shifted into park and attempted to start the car again and it shut off and would not move. I had the car towed to All Star Ford same day and dropped the keys in the drop box because they were closed. I called again on [XXX] and was informed that the system had shut down at the shop and they could not get the approval from Ford Corporation to fix the issue. He stated that the mechanic diagnosed that the plate between the transmission and the engine was cracked and needed to be replaced. He estimated that he would be able to get the approval by 07/05/2024 and order the other parts since the shop had majority of the parts to replace again. He informed me that the repairs were still under warranty. I called on 07/10/2024 to check the progress of the repairs and Frank informed me that they are currently working on vehicle and will update me. I called on 07/12/2024 and left Frank a message for follow-up. Frank called me back and stated that there are more issues with the car which includes fixing additional items such as the torque. The fly wheel has had to be replaced twice on my car. I am driving and all of the sudden it starts clanking, I'm thinking my car is going to fall apart. First in 2021 and now again in 2024. I feel this is something that should be recalled because what are the chances that 2 went bad. It is getting fixed after Ford looked at it and wanted to charge us $2800.00 to replace. Took to a recommended transmission shop. Most people don't even know about reporting these issues. Not only that they replaced my engine already in 2021. I have had numerous problems with this car, if interested in checking it out you all are more than welcome to. I was out of town and suddenly my car would not start even though the battery good according to auto zone and O'reilly's was good. it is just crazy the problems, I am afraid to drive my car and being stranded somewhere. I am going to look for all the invoices i have from ford and will submit
A coolant intrusion into the engine from the 3rd valve occurred, requiring a full engine replacement.
Check engine light came on with a P0302 code, indicating misfire. Took it to the dealer that verified coolant intrusion, indicating 21N12. Mileage exceeding the allowable coverage under 21N12, but it was covered by an extended warranty. In addition to having the short block replaced, the wiring harness and PCM were soaked with oil, requiring additional replacement of both. A month prior, the flex plate also failed and required replacement under warranty.

Transmission started stuttering around 40 to 50mph. The transmission had to be rebuild because of issue.
December 2023 my 2018 ford escape 1.5L ecoboost had low coolant levels. We put more in every other day. The check engine light came on and a warning saying engine failure repair now. Took it to an independent garage where I was told it needed a new short block due to coolant intrusion. I called ford and was told to take to ford dealership to be diagnosed. I was told the same thing there. I’m 180 miles over the 84,000 that they extended it too so I have to pay. I applied for financial assistance and fords paying some of my bill. It’s been 5 months and I’m getting the run around from them and won’t have my car until at least mid may. I’m also being denied a loaner. I was on my way home from work and my car alerted me it was over heating and to turn it off. Then my car threw itself in “limp mode” causing me to go from 55 to 15 within a matter of seconds almost causing an accident if people behind me didn’t swerve around me. With so many complaints how is this not a recall? It poses a great risk for the driver of the vehicle along with other potential drivers on the road.
This car has a flood of complaints and FORD even put out a bulletin about fixing the car BEFORE IT WAS SOLD in June of 2022. We purchased the car on 3/23/23 and FORD corporate stated the car never underwent the proper changes. The dealer did not take the appropriate steps to fixing two FORD bulletins, 19-2375 & 21N12, EVEN THOUGH THEIR WAS DIRECT KNOWLEDGE BY FORD TO THE DEALER to fix it before the selling it (be see the documentation provided). The car leaked oil and fluid into the spark plugs causing complete and total engine failure. The car will need a new engine. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service provider and will be soon at a FORD dealer "so they can look through it". The car has not been inspected by the manufacturer just yet but I'm covering my bases because many dealers are refusing to do the work. Warning light stated it was a misfire related code but it was not in fact, then it said it was a Engine Fault. I want this documented.
The 2018 Ford Escape had a check engine light come on. It showed a code (P0303) that said cylinder 3 was misfiring. It was also having white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe and my coolant was draining really quickly. The coolant tank was completely empty before hitting 2,000 miles since it had last been filled. I took the vehicle into a Ford dealership for a diagnostic check to see what was going on. In the end I was told that I have a crack in the long block that is letting coolant into my cylinders which is causing the misfiring. I was told that the possibility of an engine fire and a few other things that make the engine not work could have happened while driving it. Unfortunately the vehicle isn’t even paid off yet and I can’t drive it for fear of something bad happening while doing so. They are quoting me around $8600 to fix it. We are currently trying to figure out if there is anyway of fixing it without having to pay out of pocket. It appears that this is a common problem with 2018 ford escape 2.0L engines. My engine was manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky. The Ford company sent a notice or something out on [XXX] that said the manufacturer error engines for the 2017-2019 Ford Escape 1.5L Ecoboost were manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky. Seeing as my engine was made there and has the same problem as the 1.5L engines I feel like there should be a recall put out for the 2.0L and the 1.5L 2017-2019 Ford Escape engines. The car was stalling while driving and coming to a complete stop while accelerating. No warning lights were on. I called an independent mechanic shop and they came out to diagnose the issue. They informed that the powertrain light was now on and that car would not go into first gear. I called the Ford Service Center to schedule a service appointment and I was informed that the car had a recall notice. I took the car in for the recall service and was informed that they completed the service for the recall but that the car was having the same issue.
On 02/28/2024, I was driving on the freeway taking my child to school. going about 65mph and the RPM gauge started to swing left to right. My car started to slow down. I was able to pull over to the side of the freeway safely. As I pulled over the car came to an abrupt stop and the screen flashed "Transmission Failure". I called my insurance, and they informed me that it was not an insurance issue and to check to see if any recalls were on my car. I checked and it stated that there was a recall regarding my transmission parts. I had the car towed to the closest dealership. At the dealership they stated that I had a Certified Preowned and my warranty covered the cost for the service. I was informed that a rental car would be covered for 5 days at $38 a day. I was also informed that it would take them until 03/07/24 to breakdown the car and transmission to locate the exact issue that needed to be fixed. I received a call on 03/08/24 stating that the issue was the transmission and approval would need to be obtained from Ford to either replace the transmission or fix the parts. Ford authorized the replacement transmission on 03/12/24. I was then informed that the new transmission would be delivered by 03/21/24. On 03/25/24, I called the dealership since no call was made to me and was informed that the transmission being shipped was unable to be located. I called Ford corporation and filed a complaint due to lack of communication and prolonging my rental car usage. On 03/26/24, I spoke with the manager of the dealership and was informed that the transmission was not lost but was on backorder. He stated that he would need to find parts to rebuild the transmission at this point. He also stated that he would need to get approval from Ford to outsource the parts needed to rebuild the transmission. He stated that it would be another 2 weeks before my car may be fixed and given back to me. I now have to continue with my rental usage and the current total is $2000 and rising.
I am experiencing transmission issues in my 2018 Ford Escape SUV, the vehicle is barely 5 yrs old with less than 75k on the odometer. I started noticing that when I go over 60mph it starts to sputter, I took it to the ford dealership and was told I need to replace the torque converter and transmission at a cost of over 6K. I am in a delima as this is my only vehicle and or not to repair the vehicle or get rid of it. This is a very frustrating situation to be in.

Check engine light came on steady. Took vehicle in for service at 1st possible appt. Was told it was engine block failure due to faulty porous block installed by Ford. Vehicle has 54000 miles on it, 8 months out of the 60,000/5yr powertrain warranty. Have an extended warranty but they refused to pay stating Ford knew about the faulty engine blocks installed on thousands of vehicles. Ford had issued a TSB warning of potential engine failures in these vehicles, but no recall. TSB 22-2322 Huge safety issue due to possibility of catching fire or breaking down on busy interstate. Vehicle currently at Ford dealership with a repair price tag of 10,400.

This was a company leased vehicle that I bought in 2023. It was never in an accident, and I had it in for the regular maintenance every 7,000 miles as directed by my company. Car crossed over to 100,000 miles and started making a loud rattling noise near the engine. Took it to a local Goodyear who believed it was a cracked or damaged Flywheel. They have dealt with several problems with this make and model for the flywheel issue. They suggested I bring it to the dealer and have the dealer diagnose. Dealer confirmed the flywheel was cracked. During this time, I was able to confirm a November 2022 recall was conducted for the same year for the Ford Edge and again for the Ford Fusion and MKZ models, for the flywheel issue. Customer Satisfaction Program number 22N12. I believe the Ford Escape Flywheel issue should be connected to this recall.

The flex plate cracked in four places. I have images showing the cracks on the flex plate. The problem was confirmed by an independent service center. There were no warning lamps or messages, only a percussive tapping sound caused by the cracked flex plate. This issue could cause loss of control of the vehicle leading to an accident.

Coolant intrusion into motor. Coolant leak causing multiple misfires and my vehicle to lose power while driving and not to over 30mph. I have had the spark plugs, injectors, and coil packs all changed and problem persisted. Taking my car back to mechanic a test was done and there is coolant in the pistons.

While driving this vehicle (~88,000 miles) on a route of ~100 miles, the car started shuddering / shaking at highway speed for 30 - 90 seconds every 10 - 15 minutes. I was 50 miles in to the drive when the shaking began. The shaking was startling and distracting. I drove the car to the dealer that night. While driving to the dealer, the car continued to shudder / shake for even longer durations at greater frequency. Additionally, the car had weak acceleration when the gas pedal was compressed. This created significant challenges when trying to navigate traffic (merging on to highway, accelerating car from stop, etc.). I have a video of the dash which shows the car exceeding 4000 RPM and not exceeding 25mph. I can share this video over e-mail, but could not attach to this form. - The dealer believes this is a malfunction of the powertrain (transmission). It is available for inspection at the time of this writing. However, I am working with Ford and the dealer on a repair solution as this is my primary car. - My safety was at risk because the car shaking was distracting and the lack of acceleration presented challenges with merging, passing cars, accelerating from stop, etc. - Vehicle is currently with dealer beginning inspection - initial suspicion is transmission issue. - No warning lights came on as I was experiencing this issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while pulling out of the driveway at 10 - 15 MPH, at approximately 100 meters down the street, the transmission fault message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact immediately turned around and parked in the driveway. The contact learned of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) and believed that the failure the vehicle had experienced was related to the recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure where it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall nor was the warranty coverage available. The manufacturer opened a case regarding the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

Ford Dealership replaced the transmission under warranty and forgot to tighten the transfer case bolts when reassembling the vehicle. Transfer case bolts worked loose over 8,000 miles and the transfer case separated from the transmission while driving.
I Purchased a 2018 Ford Escape SE (VIN# [XXX] ) with 1.5 EcoBoost Engine on 9/24/2023 with 89,726 miles. On 12/10/2023 my 16 year old son was operating vehicle when he experienced a catastrophic engine failure and the vehicle is unserviceable. The vehicle had 90,766 miles on it at the time of the failure. Vehicle was diagnosed on 12/18/2023 and it was determined that there was coolant intrusion into the #2 and #3 cylinder and that the engine will need to replaced. Diagnosis showed that Ford had issued (2) Customer Satisfaction Program alerts on the vehicle for this issue Ford CSP 21N12 and 19B37 on 06/9/2022. I contacted Ford Motor Company and my local dealer to report the issue. I was advised this is a known issue with this specific engine although the vehicle is beyond the extended warranty under the Ford CSP's above. This known issue on this vehicle was not disclosed to my at the time of purchase and Ford will not cover any cost associated with the repair. I feel this known issue should be a recall due to the fact that this catastrophic engine failure does pose a significant safety risk to the vehicle operator and other traveling public. Coolant going into block and ford refuses to fix makes no since there was a customer satisfaction on this issue it ended . But I never got the paper work on this issue I would say people before me did .Ford customer service told me I should of been cking internet really it was a new car for me and now they want 6000 to fix . I don't understand cuz I did a recall and the 1.6 and 2.0 why did they not do a recall on the 1.5 that makes no sense to me I really wish somebody would explain it to me this problem has been with this motor since 2010 they recalled all of them but they won't recall this now I'm lost please help me I'm done with that a car now for a month nobody is willing to help I have an extended warranty they won't help because they said that Ford should fix it cuz it's their default. But it doesn't make any sense that you got it somebody recalls all the other ones but not the 1.5 and now they're recalling 2020

In Oct 2023, I received a transmission fault warning on my car after my car began having issues after the start up to kick in to gear to drive. When I took it to the Ford dealership to be serviced for a diagnostic test, they told me there was metal in my transmission and I would need a new transmission at a cost of more than $8,000. Considering my car is 5 years old, I bought it brand new from the dealer and only has 34,000 miles and was just serviced in June 2023 and I have regularly had maintenance at least twice per year since I bought the car, I find this appalling that I am having such a significant repair required. Transmissions can last up to 200,000 miles and I am nowhere near that amount. I’ve never been in a wreck with this car and it was just serviced. My safety is at risk because my car needs a new transmission and is dangerous to drive. The Ford transmission is faulty and should be taken under consideration for review for major safety concerns. I as the customer should not need to put my family’s safety at risk nor should I have to cover this cost when Ford’s parts are faulty and of low quality.
Head or head gasket leaking and causing engine failure
We purchased at 2018 Ford Escape (VIN# [XXX] ), with 2.0-liter engine, it has 57K miles on it and has been well maintained. The engine indicator light came on, we took it into the Ford Dealership to diagnose the issue and were told it needed a new engine. Here’s the diagnosis provided by the Damerow Ford dealership in Beaverton, Oregon: VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN. FOUND CODE IS P0301 CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE. VERIFIED NO COOLANT IN COOLANT TANK. FOUND WHITE SMOKE ON START UP AND BURNT COOLANT SMELL FROM EXHAUST. OIL AND COOLANT MIXING. REMOVED CYLINDER 1 PLUG AND FOUND COOLANT TRACES ON PLUG. PRESSURE TESTED COOLING SYSTEM AND FOUND COOLANT IN CYLINDER 1. BLOWN HEAD GASKET CAUSING CYLINDER WASH OUT. VEHICLE NEEDS AN ENGINE DUE TO WASH OUT AND BLOWN HEAD GASKET Ford Motor Company knows they have a serious coolant, engine and overheating defects. Ford has already been forced to recall more than 200,000 defective and unsafe vehicles. Ford recalled other Ford Escapes, because their 1.6-liter turbocharged engines overheated when coolant got low, causing the cylinder head to crack and spew oil. The vehicle we purchased is suffering from the same coolant leak, engine, and overheating issues which are serious safety defects that creates a risk of fire. We are requesting NHTSA take immediate action to require Ford by law to recall the vehicle and pay 100% of the cost related to replacement of the engine and all associated failed parts as a result of the coolant, engine and overheating defects. Car owners like us who unknowingly purchased a defective Ford product should not bear the burden of paying unjustified repair costs. I am requesting immediate action be taken by NHTSA to protect all consumers who were unaware they had purchased and were driving an unsafe and defective vehicle. My 2018 Ford Escape has a coolant intrusion, which if left unchecked, can cause serious damage and danger (fire). I purchased this used vehicle from a trusted dealership, only 7 months ago, to now discover this issue and find out that the recall that could have fixed this is now "expired". Coolant intrusion was confirmed by a local autoshop and confirmed by Ford. There was a brief flashing MIL light, but it has not gone off since, which also adds to the concern.
The vehicle check engine light came on at 61k miles, was found to be misfiring. Upon inspection, dealership found coolant intrusion in engine. Engine will require block replacement. Vehicle could have overheated, caught fire, or left family members stranded in severe weather conditions.
On August 16,2023 I was traveling home via rt 2. My car showed no signs or any warnings on my dashboard when my 2018 Ford Escape SE stopped moving. My car was on but when pushing on gas pedal my vehicle would not move forward. After bringing my car to a stop shutting it off and turning back on it bucked forward enough and I was able drive 100 ft. to park it in my driveway. Very shaken as I was just traveling at 60 mph and after taking exit to my condo my car stopped with no warning. This could have been catastrophic and caused a serious accident. After having my car towed, to the Ford dealership I purchased it, I learned of a recall I was never notified about and also told I needed a new transmission. How could this be on a car with 73,000 miles and not a sign or code that something was wrong. I was originally quoted 8,000 dollars to replace the transmission that was not under warranty with Ford. I am still without a car and have spent hundreds of dollars on a rental car needed to get back and forth to work. I have spent hours researching this problem and have read hundreds of peoples complaints with the same issue and wondering why Ford has not issued a recall. This is absurd, and a safety issue, not only to myself but all others on the roads with me. I am a single mother and having to pay out all this money is leaving me with a financial burden. Ford needs to make right to their loyal customers and make this fix a recall. Please help me , Very unhappy Ford owner!
I purchased this vehicle in July of 2023 and put 3000 miles on it and then found out when parked and sits…when started blue smoke comes out of exhaust. Made an appointment at a Ford dealer, it was there 10 days without being looked at and I needed to return the rental car, which I told the service advisor that it had to be checked out in order for my warranty company to pay my rental fees, kept calling with no answer.. ended up taking it to another dealer which diagnosed it needing an engine due to the cyclinders taking coolant… they than til me they 6 months out due to having 6 escapes just like mine in front, all needing engines.
My transmission started slipping and will not shift. When switching from drive to reverse or reverse to drive, the vehicle will not immediately shift directions. Instead, it will hesitate and then buck hard paired with a bang. I purchased this vehicle at the beginning of December last year and it hasn't even been an entire year. I am still making payments on a vehicle I can't drive and there is absolutely no reason a transmission (with regular maintenance records) that's 5 years old would randomly malfunction like that. This needs to be addressed. Ford has way too many problems and honestly shouldn't be allowed to put vehicles on the road that cause dangerous situations, especially knowingly.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly; however, the vehicle jolted while reversing. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact there was a delay in the drive train, and that the engine had internal damages. The contact stated that the engine was replaced prior to the failure by the local dealer. The mechanic recommended that the engine be rebuilt. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

I drove about 20 minutes to an eating establishment. Left the establishment after about an hour and a half. Got into my car. It would not shift into gear. The shifter moved., but not into gear. No reverse. No drive. No neutral. I called triple a. The arrived in 45 minutes. The gentleman went into my car after telling him what happened. He came back to me and told his tow truck can’t tow my car. They need a truck with a special tool to be able to pull my vehicle out. Since it wouldn’t go into neutral. He did not have that on his truck. I waited for 4 hours. Still no tow truck. I then realized that I had road side assistance with Ford. I called them. I told the gentleman my situation including what the previous tow company told me. He called me back in 20 minutes. Said he found a tow truck. He wouldn’t be able to get there for and hour and half to 2 hours. The tow company towed it to jannell ford in Hanover, Massachusetts. On Monday Jannell called me. They said since I didn’t have an appointment it’s gonna be a while before we can look at it. Through out the 3 weeks they kept in touch with me and were talking about a new transmission. Finally it was my turn for my vehicle to be looked at. And it went into gear. There were no repairs made. I brought my car to a transmission place. He could not recreate what happened. But he did tell me it would happen again. It’s a matter of time. This is the third time I have brought my vehicle involving transmission issues. The first time was June 30, 2021. Torque converter was replaced 2nd time April 12, 2022 Te problem I have now happened July 24, 2023.
On August 1, 2023 my vehicle began to show engine issues. When I started it, it would shudder, like it wasn't getting fuel. I contacted Firestone and scheduled a diagnostic for that Friday. In the meantime, I bought some enginge cleaner and put it in my gas tank. Firestone reports that the coolant has leaked into the head gasket, causing my vehicle to need a new enginge. They printed out a report of CSP21N12 which covers this KNOWN ISSUE for 84,000 or 7 years. My vehicle has 92,800 miles on it and had shown no signs of this issue prior. The vehicle was then seen at Dahl Ford in Davenport, Iowa where they confirmed that the coolant was leaking into the enginge and it needed replaced. Again, this is known issue that Ford has been aware of since 2019. They have released numerous TSBs (which I didn't even know existed until August 4). Ending the coverage at 84,000 miles is not acceptable and this is a serious safety hazard. The vehicle can catch fire if it runs out of coolant. The vehicle can stall in the middle of the road causing a potential accident. Ford needs to issue a recall.
Shifts hard sometimes slamming into and out of gears causing car to jump. No warning lights torque converter replaced at 58000 miles. Less than two years later problem came back. It causes the car to jerk sometimes when it shifts and stutters at times as well causing the car to slow down. May someday stop with no warning causing a crash.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 35-37 MPH, the vehicle failed to shift into the intended gear, and was jerking significantly. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected for fluid leakage, but no issues were found. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle was connected to an OBD reader, but no diagnostic codes were retrieved. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the transmission needed to be repaired; however, the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the repair cost. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

During my ownership of a 2018 Ford Escape equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine, a series of catastrophic engine failures occurred, jeopardizing my safety and that of others on the road. The specific components that failed this time include the short block, crankshaft, and other critical components within the long block, such as the pump and converter. Additionally, the torque converter and flex plate required replacement. These components are available for inspection upon request. The failures posed significant safety risks as the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and acceleration, leading to potential hazards for both myself and adjacent motorists. The problem has been confirmed by the All American Ford dealership in Old Bridge, NJ, where detailed diagnostic testing revealed the flex plate and short block were damaged. The vehicle has been inspected by the All American Ford dealership, and a claim was filed with my warranty company (Olive Warranty), but unjustly denied, despite the recurring nature of these failures. Significantly, no warning lamps or messages alerted to the impending issue prior to the failure, and the initial symptom was a clicking noise upon activating the AC. My local mechanic initially suspected the problem to be related to the air compressor, but further inspection revealed that it was not the cause of the issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while parking into a parking space, the vehicle accelerated at high speed. The contact was not sure if a warning light was displayed or illuminated. The vehicle drove over the curb striking several shopping carts and coming to a complete stop, causing front-end damages to the vehicle. The contact suffered a bruise to the chest due to the seat belt but did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 60,000.

I own a 2018 Ford Escape SE. In May, I started my car & it shook, the check engine light started blinking. I took it to Auto Zone for a diagnostic; diagnostic trouble codes Power Train System - P0302/ cylinder 2 misfire detected & Anti-Lock Brake System (No Code) /Service Interval Light. I was told to replace the spark plugs & ignition coil. I took it to an independent mechanic, sparks plugs & coil were replaced. The check engine light off. Notice I was using more gas. 2 weeks later, check engine light came on, car started shaking. I took it to Auto Zone for another diagnostic & was told the same thing, issue with the spark plugs and coil, misfire for cylinder 2. July 14, took it to the dealership for an oil change; I was told the coolant was below level/ low. In my Ford Pass App, I received an alert; I decided to sign in into my FORD ACCOUNT, where I have my cars registered. I saw an alert with the following messages: 1 * Recalls: You're all set! There are no recalls for your vehicle. 2 * CSP (Customer Satisfaction Program 19B37 will be in effect until November 30,2022, regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners. Additionally, if engine damage has occurred due to coolant intrusion, Ford Motor Company is providing a one-time repair of the engine short block. I called Mac Haik Ford Dealership and notify them of the issue. They wanted to charge me $155 just for a diagnostic. I told then that according to Campaign #21N12, I'm not suppose to be charge. I left my vehicle at the dealership for the diagnostic and at 3:54pm, I received a message for the service adviser telling me this "Hello this is [XXX] with Mac Haik Ford. The technician has looked at your vehicle & it is coolant intrusion. We have ordered parts, and we will be going into Monday with your vehicle. First part of June 2023 check engine light came on, taken to garage for reading noticed coolant low. Garage replaced ignition coil. Engine light again came on took back to garage replaced spark plug. Engine light again came on, I then called Ford dealer and was informed of the problems coming in on 2.0 ecco boost engines. Took vehicle in and was informed of engine failure and new engine was installed.

While driving at night at a speed of approximately 45 mph, the car started grinding and there was a smell of metallic material burning and it was difficult to accelerate. Within seconds the automobile came to a complete stop in the middle of a moderately traveled road in the left hand turning lane. There were no messages or warning lamps that would indicate that there was a problem prior to this complete stoppage. The safety of the driver as well as others is put at risk due to the fact that there were no prior indications or symptoms to this malfunction. Had this happened on a high traffic area while traveling at higher speed, there would have indeed been numerous accidents given the sudden stoppage without any safety lamps or alerts being exhibited on the dashboard that would alert the driver to get to a safer location or pull over. Waiting for a tow at night is dangerous and the safety of a lone driver is at stake. After three days at the dealer, we were advised that the vehicle has complete Transmission Failure. There is a safety recall (22S43) NHTSA 22V413 that deals with a transmission issue. The vehicle now needs a whole new transmission and is only 5 years old. Perhaps this initial recall may eventually lead to complete transmission failure. It was not described as what exactly the failure of the transmission.
Fly wheel cracks all of a sudden at 85000 miles
2 weeks after our warranty expired for the power train we experienced failure with a misfire of Cylinder 1. We replaced all of the spark plugs at around 41,000 miles. 1 month into replacement cyclinder 1 misfired again, we replaced the spark plug thinking it was that and also the coil. 2 months after we are having the same issue, replaced the spark plug again, and the code will not go away, the check Englishwoman light continues to flash. I brought it to the dealership where it has been preliminarily determined I have a coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 and a new king block will be required at the tune of about 9k. There was tsb 19-2346 on my car and nothing was done to prevent this from happening. We suddenly lost all coolant around the same time we replaced the spark plugs as well. There was no visible leak. Ford needs to cover this repair in full, and issue a recall. My 17 year old drives this vehicle and when she was driving yesterday is when the failure began as she was turning left she had a sudden loss in power, almost getting tboned.
The dealership, All American Chevrolet of San Angelo TX, sold me this car 12/14/2022 without fixing the recall that was issued 6/2022. My battery has died 2x within a month, my check engine light came on yesterday but there are only 68k miles on the car. It's against federal law for a dealership to sell a car with an open recall, isn't it?
The antifreeze is leaking into the cylinders. My car has been diagnosed as being HYDRO-LOCKED. This happened in March. I took the car to REA Ford in Monticello where it was diagnosed. A claim was submitted to the warranty company who said they are not responsible for the repair because the manufacturer knew of this defect and had a Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 - Short Block Replacement After Coolant Intrusion. This is dated June 09, 2022. There were program limits set in place which ended on November 30, 2022. This issue occurred with my car after this date. It is the same issue and I am being told by everyone that they are not responsible for the repair. The car will not start and had to be towed to REA Ford in Monticello where it is currently sitting. The check engine light came on. I took it to be diagnosed and was told this is the issue. I was told that they could not identify where the leak was until it got to the point that the car was having more difficulty starting and running. The car is now unable to start. My safety was impacted because I was told it was safe to drive but around March 15th, the vehicle would not exceed 6 miles per hour and just stopped moving. It had to be towed to the dealer's garage.

The car began overheating while in operation. The driver immediately pulled over and shut the car off, and the car was towed to the dealership. It was discovered that there was a crack in the gasket, allowing coolant to slowly leak into the engine over time. The engine seized and is no longer operable. This is, as confirmed by my Ford mechanic, and KNOWN and COMMON issue with this particular year/model. Ford is aware that this is a manufacturing defect and has not issued a recall at this time.
The transmission went out while driving down the road and I was barely able to get off the road. According to the dealership the transmission had an internal failure at 61000 miles.

In the past 2 weeks, the check engine light has come on and then turned off several times. April 7 the car overheated and it was found to have no engine coolant and a powertrain warning turned on. After adding coolant, the car ran and errors disappeared. We’ve been checking the coolant every day and have had to continually add coolant although no leak seems to be occurring. Made an appointment at a shop to have it checked out and in the days leading up to that appointment, it started running roughly. April 12 it took several attempts to start and a powertrain warning came on and it wasn’t running at full power. After turning the car off, when re started, error disappeared. Repair shop today said the engine coolant was leaking into the engine cylinders and that the engine needs to be replaced.
The transmission was found to have a leak by my personal mechanic. The suv does not have a dipstick to check if fluid is low so a few weeks ago it start making noise and running weird. It would hesitate while driving, slow acceleration, even sputtering to the point of possible shutting off. Sometimes I am not able to reverse out of the way of traffic. It is dangerous especially if my children are in the car. My mechanic said that at first he just thought it was low on fluid and then he seen a puddle on the pan that collects underneath but he assumed it was oil but that wouldn't be because I just got an oil change from the dealership. Come to find out the transmission has had a slow leak that I would have never even noticed because there is a collection panel underneath. I've tried to contact the dealership multiple times. No help, we've only had the car for 15 months.
Pressed gas to move at light and car revved but did not move. Stuck on very busy highway. There was no warning. No warning lights, no weird noises. Nothing. Had car towed to Ford dealership. Advised transmission needs to be replaced. At 63,000 miles.

I was driving around 50 mph. A notice popped up that said service engine now. It then started to run hot. I pulled over on the side of the road and the car wouldn’t start. The car had no coolant in it at all when my help arrived. It was empty. I now have a message on my Ford app that says power train malfunction. I haven’t had this car two years. My safety was at risk because my daughter was in the car and it started to run hot. I thought my car was going to catch fire. I can’t afford to fix this when thousands of other people have had this same issue.

The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist, where it was diagnosed that the transmission fluid was abnormally dark, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to a local dealer, who had an earlier availability. The contact scheduled an appointment with the dealer for the diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

There have been several instances of the vehicle completely shutting off while sitting idle and at red lights. I took it to the dealership and there is coolant leaking into the cylinders causing it to misfire. This is very dangerous and could cause the car to run hot or burn up! The said I should replace the engine but FORD should be responsible as this seems to be a problem in many of their escapes!
This 2018 Ford Escape Titanium has 32,000 miles on is experiencing chronic, substantive defects in the rear powertrain. Specifically, it is having its second replacement rear differential unit (RDU) installed. This means it will have worn out 3 RDU's in 32,000 miles. -Original RDU was replaced at ~23,000 miles and failed ~30,000 miles. Third RDU in vehicle's life is currently being installed. Additionally, this vehicle has already had its Power Transfer Unit (PTU) replaced at 22,000 miles and is now on its third set of rear brake rotors. My contention is that there are serious, substantive defects in the vehicles rear powertrain causing premature wearing of the brakes and potential for serious accidents related to the loss of rear differential control and brake damage.
There is a recall for shifter cable issues. Had scheduled to have the recall done. While waiting on parts delay to have work completed was told can still use my ford escape. Driving one-day transmission lost all power I was able to get safely to side of road as it was late at night and not much traffic would have been a totally different outcome if in heavy traffic or traveling at highway speeds. Ford now tells me something broke in my transmission. Waited 3 weeks to find out they did the recall cable fix and inspected my transmission and told me something broke inside my transmission and now they expect me to pay 5K for a rebuilt transmission. Car only has 62,706 miles on it and they said the warranty exp at 60,000 miles. I find this interesting they have a transmission cable issue that causes the vehicle to not go into gear properly and now my transmission fails prematurely and they will not cover it. I am lucky i was not driving on highway when this issue happened could have been worse this needs to be looked into no reason for a vehicle that is up on all maint done by the dealer even at 30,000 miles did full service at dealer shop which included the transmission and at just over 60,000 miles transmission fails. I suspect it is related to this faulty cable and transmission not going properly or fully into gear. Someone needs to look into this issue and hold Ford accountable someone is going to get severely injured or worse.
Coolant intrusion into the engine from the cylinder. Check engine light came on for a misfire. My mechanic read the diagnostic codes as a misfired cylinder. Ford admits they know this is an issue with the 1.5L Eco-boost Engine but will only cover 60% of the repair.
2018 Ford escape with 53,700 miles. Ford designed a faulty metal plate between the cylinders. Too thin. It cracked. Coolant flooded the engine. The engine needed to be replaced. The dealership replaced the lower half of engine, luckily, before my 60,000 mile warranty. This is a common problem that has been happening since 2018!!! Please issue a recall. Ford is just waiting until people are stranded on the side of the road facing thousands of dollars in repairs!

On April 2022 my vehicle began to malfunction while I was driving. My car was in drive and when I hit the gas pedal it began moving backwards. Then, the vehicle would not move at all when it was in drive. I turned the car off, restarted, and was able to drive to a safe location. When I tried driving the vehicle again it was moving in reverse even though it was in park. I at that time called AAA and had my vehicle towed to a service center. During this time my safety was in danger as I was on the road and could have been in an accident with the way my car was malfunctioning. Before this problem occurred there were no warning lights, it just happened out of nowhere. I would later learn the engine needed repairs and I needed a new transmission.

I have 128,000 miles on my 2018 Escape. About three weeks ago I was driving down the road at 55 mph when my transmission disengaged and I coasted to a stop. Even though my engine was running I couldn't go forward or backward at all, and so I had it towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic said that this was a common problem with the Escape, that I was going to have to replace the entire transmission, and that it would take about two months to get a new transmission in. About two weeks ago I got a notice from Ford Motor Co. about a recall on my Escape for another transmission issue (Ref. Safety Recall Notice 22S43/NHTSA Recall 22V413). I called my local dealership and was told that my transmission issue was completely different than the recall problem because the recall only dealt with a transmission that shifted differently from the park position, and not a transmission that didn't engage at all. They also said that they would call me when they got the parts in. I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Do I park my vehicle until Ford gets the parts in in the 4th quarter of 2022 to see if this fixes my problem, and only then get the transmission replaced afterwards? If it takes 2 months or more to get a new transmission in, I could see this taking a year before I have my vehicle repaired. If I have the transmission replaced by the local mechanic, it will costs me $6,200.00, and take two months to repair. This would probably save me some money over the dealership cost to repair it, but would void any subsequent work that they might do? Do you have any suggestions as to I might be able to resolve this problem? Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

TRANSMISSION IS GOING BAD. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING NOISE AND STUTTERING. IT WAS STATIONARY WHEN IT WAS FIRST NOTICED. AS SOON AS I TURNED THE CAR ON AND SWITCHED GEARS THE TRANSMISSION STARTED WITH A WHIRRING NOISE. TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS THE TRANSMISSION PUMP. WHICH IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES.

DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER WHEN MY 2018 FORD ESCAPE SHOOK HARD AND TRANSMISSION OR WARNING LIGHT POPPED ON. WE SWERVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUSHED IT A BLOCK BACK TO MY HOUSE. I NOTIFIED FORD AND THEY TOWED IT TO WALT SWEENEY ON GLENWAY IN CINCINNATI. WALT SWEENEY DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR BECAUSE THEIR POLICY IS TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BEFORE LOANING ONE OF THEIRS OUT. I WENT TO ENTERPRISE RENTAL WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER 400. FOR A CAR FOR TWO DAYS. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A TICKET ON RECORD. I CALLED FORD AND TOLD THEM I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. IT HAS 47000 MILES ON IT. THERE IS NO WAY THE TRANSMISSION WENT BAD BECAUSE IF ME. IT IS A CLOSED UNIT. FORD SAID THERE WAS NO WAY THEY COULD PAY ENTERPRISE FOR A RENTAL. THE ONLY WOULD PAY ME BACK. I COULDN'T AFFORD THE RENTAL CAR THEN AND CAN'T NOW. THIS POLICY IS FOR THE POORER PERSON WHO CAN'T AFFORD A RENTAL, SO FORD DOESN'T HAVE TO PAY THEM BACK. I'M DISGUSTED BY FORD TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE WHO NEED THE MOST HELP. I CALLED FORD OVER AND OVER AND NO MATTER WHO I TALKED TO I WAS TOLD TOO BAD. I WALKED THE HALF MILE TO SWEENEY AND BROKE DOWN CRYING. THEY WERE KIND ENOUGH TO DO THE RIGHT AND LEGAL THING WHEN FORD REFUSED THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT FORD SOLD A FAULTY NEW VEHICLE, IT BROKE DOWN AND THEY REFUSED TO GET ME A RENTAL CAR UNLESS I HAD OVER 400. TO RENT THE CAR. THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE IF IT WAS MORE THEN 2 DAYS. SWEENEY, NOTIFIED ME THAT MY CAR NEEDS A TOTAL TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL AND A TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. SO NOW THEY ARE OFFERING A RENTAL AFTER I COULD HAVE LOST MY JOB, BUT YET AGAIN IT IS 300 DOWN AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A PART BACK. THERE ARE REPORTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ABOUT FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS YEAR FORD.I CAME AFFORD A MONTH OF RENTAL PAYMENTS, LET ALONE A WEEK

TOOK VEHICLE IN FOLLOWING A RECALL NOTICE FOR CONTROLLER MODULE. TWO MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE BACK AND IT RESULTED IN A COOLANT LEAK INTO THE CYLINDER. THE BLOCK WAS WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS A NEW FLYWHEEL AND HEAD GASKET. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED HARD AND THEN STOPPED BEING ABLE TO MOVE. THIS RESULTED IN A SECOND FLYWHEEL BEING INSTALLED ALONG WITH A NEW TRANSMISSION PUMP, SEALS, AND TORQUE CONVERTER. STILL DOES NOT RUN CORRECTLY AND THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF DOES NOT WORK. VEHICLE HAS HAD A SINGLE OWNER AND LESS THAN 35,000 MILES ON IT. BELIEF IS THAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE A RESULT OF A POORLY DESIGNED ENGINE AND THE ORIGINAL RECALL.

WHILE IN MOTIION (TAKING OFF AND DURING DRIVE) THE CAR 'CUTS BACK' AND DOESN'T PICK UP SPEED CAUSING DRIVER OF VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO INCREASE SPEED(ONLY SOMEWHAT GRADUALLY AFTER ANOTHER CUTBACK). THIS HAPPENS WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAYS AND ON CITY STREETS OR COUNTRY ROADS. IN ADDITION, WHEN PUTTING CAR IN REVERSE (TO PARK OR PULL OUT OF PARKING SPACE) THE CAR EITHER TURNS OFF OR DOESN'T MOVE BACK WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL.

FORD AUTHORIZED ONLY A REPAIR. *TR WE ALSO OWN A 2014 FORD ESCAPE WHOSE TRANSMISSION QUIT WHILE OUR 2018 WAS IN THE GARAGE FOR SERVICE. ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED FOR THE VEHICLE ON TIME, AND ALWAYS SERVICED AT A FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. ALL RECALLS COMPLETED. NO ACCIDENTS WITH THIS VEHICLE. HAD ISSUES WITH VIBRATIONS COMING FROM FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO SHAKE. THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED UNDER WARRANTY BY A FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT BY REPLACING THE HALF SHAFT. THREE MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH, I RECEIVED AN ALERT ON MY VEHICLE SAYING, "POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER" AND "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP - REGULATORY". THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE CAR DROVE FINE, AND I DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES.ON THE WAY TO GETTING THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED AT THE SERVICE CENTER, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 70 MPH AND I COULD HEAR THE CAR RUNNING VERY LOUDLY (LIKE A ROARING SOUND). I GOT OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, AND TOOK CITY ROADS AS A PRECAUTION TO GET TO THE SERVICE CENTER. AT EVERY STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD. ONCE I MADE IT TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER, AND THEY ARE NOW SAYING THE TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, AND I AM EXPECTED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION, AND FORD IS NOT WILLING TO HELP. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 100K MILES. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLES RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION SERVICES. *TR

I HAD NOTICED COOLANT DEPLETING FINALLY GOT RECALL. DEALER REPROGRAMS NOW ENGINE IS JUST REVVING AND LOOSES ALL POWER TO POWERTRAIN IN MULTIPLE SITUATION-3 FROM STOP, 4 WHILE GOING HIGHWAY SPEED WITH CONSTANT SPEED PRIOR EACH TIME THE ENGINE REV'S UP WHILE GIVING NO POWER. THEN WILL SPONTANEOUSLY RESOLVE WITHIN ABOUT 50FT THEN SEEMS FINE. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE CAR DOING THIS WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY. WE LOOKED AT OIL AND THERE IS MILK LOOKING RESIDUE. THE LOOSING POWER HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE REPROGRAM FOR RECALL AND NOW THE CAM SHAFT & HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ARE DESTROYED PER DEALER THIS IS MY ISSUE NOT RECALL RELATED. AGAIN THESE PROBLEMS HAVE ONLY STARTED WITHIN A WEEK OF THE RECALL REPROGRAMMING OF THE VEHICLE

THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN MAR/APR 2019 WITH 3000 MI. THE VEHICLE HAD ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE CHECKS PRIOR TO THE 11/11/19 INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO VEHICLE ALERTS REGARDING COOLANT OR ENGINE OVERHEATING PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. AT 17349MI, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AFTER A 35MIN DRIVE ON THE TOLLWAY. THE VEHICLE HAD ONE COOLANT/HOT ENGINE WARNING AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 2.5HRS IN SUB-ZERO WEATHER. I TURNED OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN 5 MIN LATER. THIS TIME THE ENGINE SHUT ITSELF OFF IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE KEY TURN.THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE "LOCKED UP" AND IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS REPAIR COULD TAKE 4-6 WEEKS BECAUSE ENGINES ARE ON BACK ORDER AND GENERALLY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO INSTALL. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO STATES THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT THIS REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND IN PREVIOUS MAINTENANCE CHECKS.

I DROVE MY 2018 FORD ESCAPE INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHICH IS ON A SLIGHT HILL. I OPENED THE GARAGE DOOR. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING TO CHECK OUT SOMETHING IN OUR YARD. I WALKED ACROSS MY SMALL YARD AND THEN HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG. I TURNED AROUND AND THE CAR WAS NO WHERE IN SIGHT. I THEN REALIZED IT HAD DRIVEN ITSELF INTO THE GARAGE. IT RAN INTO MY BICYCLE, A CAR RACK AND SOME PLASTIC CABINETS. LUCKILY THERE IS ONLY A SMALL DENT AND SCRATCH ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND NO ONE WAS HIT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN AND DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT. I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
