When shifted into park the "Park" function wouldn't engage, therefore the vehicle never registered as in park. Making the remote start not function and the warning chimes continuously ding marking a malfunction and the door locks would not engage correctly. So I never knew if the vehicle was actually in park or would roll. I engaged my parking brake every time I parked just in case the vehicle wasn't in actual Park mode. I took the vehicle to my dealership for repair on 8/15/25 and the gear shift was completely replaced to remedy the issue. Costing me approximately $1,200. There were no warning lights to alert me, only the door chiming faster and differently, marking the error occurring. The problem was first noticed in May 2025, but not diagnosed until August 2025, when we had the finances to get the repair completed. Back up camera is failing, working sometimes and not others
The backup camera works intermittently. When I put the vehicle in reverse, the rearview camera sometimes displays a blank image. There are several recalls pending for the same issue for later years. For example, Ford has a recall for 2018-2022 Ford Expeditions with Ford Reference Number 25S72 and another recall effecting 2021 - 2024 vehicles. [XXX] Help would be appreciated. Thanks. Backpack camera goes out, is distorted or unavailable. Vehicle has been to the local dealership twice for repair but still does not work.
The rear-view camera on my 2017 Ford Expedition is malfunctioning. When I shift into reverse, the rear-view image appears, but once I finish reversing and shift into Drive, the image does not go away. The reverse camera feed remains frozen on the screen, even while driving forward. To clear it, I have to manually put the vehicle into Park and then back into Drive. This has to be done nearly every time I reverse, which is a distraction and a potential safety risk while operating the vehicle. I’ve read that Ford recently issued a recall involving over 200,000 vehicles for a similar issue caused by a fault in the SYNC infotainment system. My vehicle has experienced this exact problem for years, but my VIN does not appear to be part of that recall. The issue occurs almost every time I use reverse - causing the camera to stay on the screen of the Rear-view camera system / SYNC infotainment system Please investigate whether this issue is broader than currently recalled. This malfunction compromises safe operation of the vehicle and should be addressed by Ford.
The back up camera is severely distorted or unavailable completely 95% of the time. It was replaced under an extended warranty and less than a month later began having the exact same issue. Our dog was not seen laying under the car due to not having a back up camera and was run over and died as a result. We have four small children and this is a huge issue and has been happening since we purchased the vehicle.
Rearview camera intermittently (although more frequent than not) gives a distorted image or states that it is unavailable.
BACK UP CAMERA UNIT WORKS PART TIME CHECKED RECALL OUR VIN NEVER ON RECALL. CALLED FORD DEALERSHIP DON SANDERSON REGULARY TO CHECK SAME ANSWER NOT ON RECALL.PROBLEM SINCE 2021 THANKS
Master cylinder leaked into brake booster. Paid for those repairs which apparently are covered under other 2017 VIN # but not mine? Now the ABS transducer is messed up and the car needs new hydraulic pump & module.
The blend door actuator has failed on multiple occasions. There was a recall last August and we had the equipment repaired at the Ford dealership in Ayden. Just after one year it is not failed again. I called and the warranty for the equipment was 12 months. I am disappointed that we are now stuck with paying to repair what is a known equipment issue. My concern is there could be a fire or electrical concern throughout the truck. There are no warning lights, only a constant clicking sound in the rear of the truck where the blend door actuator is housed.

This incident happened on July 20, 2023. I was driving to my house when I notice that there was smoke coming out of the glove compartment of my 2017 Expedition EL. I immediately stopped at the median and opened the hood to make sure there was no fire. After that, I walked to the passenger door and when I open the door I noticed a lot more smoke coming from under the glove compartment. I open the glove compartment and notice that there was fire coming from the blower motor and on the wires around it. At this very moment, I find this issue a friend of mine happened to drive by and stopped to ask me if I needed help. He saw what was happening and provided me with 2 bottles of water. We removed the glove compartment and try to put some water toward the fire but it was too late. The fire had spread throughout the dash and subsequently, the entire vehicle was lost. I didn't have time to remove any personal items from the vehicle since the fire spread really fast and also was making a wising sound, believe to be the airbags when they deployed. Even though we have insurance I don't think it is fair for the manufacturer to clean their hand on issues like this, we lost a vehicle and they should find a way to replace it.
I have attempted to have the existing recall fixed for approx 9 months. I'm told the parts are not available.
We have left four messages with Covert Ford in Austin to get an appointment for the Air Conditioning safety recall and they will not return our calls.
THE REAR BACK-UP CAMERA DOES WORK AND FLASHES RAINBOW COLORS.
UNKNOWN There is no part to fix the recall on my truck, it is still "incomplete". Has been on recall since August 2022
The faulty blow motor is has caused the pigtail and resistor wires to melt and the dealership wants to charge for repairing that even though they have melted due to the faulty blower motor .
The recall has not been fixed. Winner Ford, Dover DE 19901, still does have the part for the Brake master cylinder. The other recall for the fan and blower has been fixed BUT it went bad last year 2021 and I had it repaired using at Winner Ford, Dover DE 19901 and paid $100 deducted using my extended warranty. I inquired today October 17, 2022 at Winner Ford Service department, Dover DE 19901 to have the $100 refunded. I feel that it should be refunded especially since there is still no remedy and it could go bad again.
My brake fluid is low warning light came on and I checked it and my brake fluid was completely empty there was no apparent leaking from anywhere within eye sight. I refilled it and a week later the same thing happened. Then I get a letter in the mail saying there is a recall about leaking break fluid and no dealer ship in my area has any availability within a reasonable amount of time. I have two kids and work full time I cannot go without a vehicle and I do not feel save driving it my breaks stopped working due to the leaking fluid which is FORDS fault.
Our car experienced a failed Throttle Body Assembly. While driving our car, the engine would lose power, and the car would start to violently shake. The wrench light would come on the dash. We would have to pull over whether we were on the highway or a city street. Once we turned the car off and back on the wrench light would disappear. We took the car to our mechanic who could not figure out the issue due to no codes. The Ford dealership told us the same thing as our mechanic - without a code(s) it would take a lot of time and money to figure out the problem. Finally after several (at least 5 time) scary occurrences of this issue, the engine light came on and gave a code. We fixed the issue on June 23, 2022.
The APIM stopped working as in all ford models with ford sync do. It is a safety hazard do to the driver not being able use the blue tooth sync for the phone, with out it working the driver has to use hands on the phone, creating a safety hazard and breaking a driving law.
Loss of power, no throttle response while driving. Happens when the throttle is advanced at a faster pace like taking off from a traffic light. I get the "See Manual" message and the wrench symbol. Turning off and then turning back on the vehicle clears the fault. Known problem with the Throttle body.....Can you say Recall?
Backup camera loses connection, does not show image, or is grossly distorted, flashes on screen. Cannot safely use backup camera when backing up. Problem Looks identical to the picture below which is from a recalled mustang.
September 2021 vehicle back up camera not functioning properly and loud knocking noise coming from rear interior. Video display is cloudy and not Capturing rear outside picture at all
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact safely pulled over to the side of the roadway and there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

Backup camera displays video while drive forward. Almost like having a tv in front seat. Dealer can not recreate. Happened intermittently. Also goes blank and fuzzy intermittently which there is recall for on 2019 and 2020 models.
My Expedition was set to 45 mph via cruise control in a work zone, at night, on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. While in the first tunnel in the northbound lane with 2 way traffic, I heard a slight pop, then rough running feeling and completely lost acceleration. The power train wrench warning light came on. Since I was on an incline in the tunnel with no way to pull over and the vehicle was going forward at a snail's pace, I decided to continue as far as I could since it was the safest thing to do for all drivers in the tunnel. The Expedition finally crept out of the tunnel and I was able to pull off to the side to let traffic pass. As soon as we had cell phone service, I had my daughter call the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to let them know that we were disabled and in need of assistance. I decided to see what would happen if I turned the vehicle off and restarted. Everything reset and I had power, but for how long? The CBBT police agreed that the safest course of action for all vehicles on the road was to tow my vehicle to the other side as it is dangerous to breakdown on the CBBT, especially in one of the tunnels. I was able to drive home after the tow. However, the following day, I tried to drive it again and it did the same: ran rough, wrench sign, no pop that time, total loss of acceleration. Restarted and made it back home. My husband tested it a few days later after re-cleaning battery cable terminals that had been corroded before we replaced the factory battery, and it did the same thing with him on the highway! If we had been trying to get into traffic, turn where we had to cross traffic or any number of other situations and the Expedition lost power like that, the outcome could be deadly. The CBBT would have records since they towed me and wrote the VIN down.
Throttle body failed and vehicle unexpectedly lost power while driving home from the airport at night. I did not initially realize it went into limp mode. The wrench light illuminated on the dash and I had to stop in the travel lane of a busy 45 mph street. I could not pull to the shoulder due to traffic. Other motorists were visibly angry and honking at me. After a little time I tried putting the vehicle in park, shutting it off and tried starting it again. It started with no issue and then died again a few blocks later, fortunately that time it was in a better location with no traffic. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer the following morning, where I already had an appointment for preventative maintenance including new coolant and spark plugs. I suspected the throttle body failed after researching the issue and found a history of similar problems with other Ford products. The dealership also diagnosed a throttle body failure and charged me for a repair, which involved replacing the throttle body assembly. It is my understanding that Ford has extended warranty coverage on other models and that there may have been a recall campaign involving other models. My 2017 Ford Expedition XLT appears to have had the same issue. This problem could have been EXTREMELY dangerous if it happened on the highway or if a less experienced driver was operating the vehicle. The failure was sudden and unexpected.
AUTOMATIC RUNNING BOARDS CAME DOWN WHEN DOOR OPEN, AS USUAL. THEY THEN WENT RIGHT BACK UP AND PINNED MY DOGS FRONT PAWS, LEGS BETWEEN RUNNING BOARD AND CAR FRAME. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD TO PULL MY DOGS PAWS/LEGS OUT PHYSICALLY. OBVIOUSLY PAINFUL. ON THE RING VIDEO THAT CAPTURED THIS YOU CAN HEAR MY DOG WHINING AND STRUGGLING. I WAS TOLD THEY SEE THIS CONSISTENTLY AND THE MANUAL STATES OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE. THIS MALFUNCTION IS DANGEROUS AND CASED INJURY, YET IT IS SEEN CONSISTENTLY PER AUTO SERVICE TECH AT DEALERSHIP. WHAT IF IT HAD BEEN MY 88 YEAR OLD MOTHER? THIS COULD VERY WELL LEAD TO HER DEATH AT HER AGE, HAD SHE BEEN THE ONE INJURED. NEVER MADE AWARE OF ISSUE AT TIME OF SALE. I BELIEVE THIS MALFUNCTION IS DANGEROUS. AND TO BE TOLD THEY SEE THIS CONSISTENTLY, WHY IS NOT MADE A MORE IMPORTANT ISSUE? IN THIS CASE THE INJURY WAS TO AN ANIMAL. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CHILD OR AS STATED, MY 88 YEAR OLD MOTHER. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS CLEANED EVERY TIME IT IS WASHED. *TR

REAR WIDOW DEFROSTER TERMINAL FELL OFF OF RIGHT SIDE OF REAR GLASS, CREST FORD OF FLATROCK MICHIGAN REPLACED REAR GLASS ON 12/26/2017 UNDER WARRANTY. ON 01/28/2019 THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER TERMINAL FELL OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THAT REAR GLASS AFTER13 MONTHS OF USE, AT THAT TIME I WAS OVER MY 36,000 MILE WARRANTY AND CONTACTED CREST FORD LOOKING FOR SOME HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. CREST FORD CONTACTED ME ABOUT A WEEK LATER AND STATED FORD MOTOR WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. ON 03/01/2019 I APPEALED THIS DIRECTLY TO THE FORD MOTOR CO. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE GLASS AGAIN. ON 03/05/2015 I HAD A LOCAL GLASS SHOP REPLACE THE REAR WINDOW AT A COST OF $262.00. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND WANT TO KNOW IF THIS IS COMMON WITH THIS VEHICLE AND IS THERE ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS WITH FORD VEHICLES. ALSO I WOULD LIKE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO REIMBURSE ME THE $262.00 DOLLARS I SPENT ON THE NEW REAR GLASS. WAS DRIVING VEHICLE BOTH TIMES WHEN THE TERMINAL FELL OFF THE GLASS, FIRST TIME THE DEFROSTER HAD JUST TURNED OFF AND THE SECOND TIME IT WAS ON.

MERGING ONTO A FREEWAY, NO OTHER VEHICLES AHEAD, BEHIND OR BESIDE, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. WAS GOING 60-65MPH AT THE TIME. NO OUTSIDE FACTORS AROUND TO CAUSE THE GLASS BREAK. NO FOREIGN OBJECT FOUND IN VEHICLE. FORD REFUSING TO INVESTIGATE ROOT CAUSE. FORD'S STANCE IS AN EXTERNAL FACTOR CAUSED THE BREAK UNLESS MORE PEOPLE COME FORWARD WITH SAME COMPLAINT. WOULD NOT INSPECT TILTING HINGE MECHANISM FOR THE BROKEN WINDOW, INSPECT OTHER INTACT WINDOWS OR DO ANY OTHER INSPECTION THAT I REQUESTED. WAS TOLD THAT THE ONLY THING THEY DID WAS TAKE PHOTOS AND DETERMINED THAT BECAUSE GLASS WAS IN THE VEHICLE THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. BOTH DEALERSHIP AND FORD'S CUSTOMER CARE HOTLINE WILL ENTERTAIN THE IDEA OF INSPECTING THE VEHICLE OR RESEARCHING THE BATCH OF THE GLASS MANUFACTURER FOR ROOT CAUSE. I HAD ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 6 DAYS AT THE TIME. VEHICLE HAD 738 MILES WHEN PURCHASED. APPROXIMATELY 1000 TOTAL MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE WINDOW BREAK. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN ONCE VEHICLE COULD BE STOPPED IN A SAFE SPOT. DROVE APPROX 27 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER THE BREAK BEFORE STOPPING. PHOTO 3826 SHOWS GLASS BEFORE HAVING TO MAKE A SHARP LEFT U-TURN THAT ALLOWED MUCH OF THE GLASS SITTING ON THE SIDE LEDGE TO FALL INSIDE THE CARGO AREA OF THE VEHICLE. OTHER PICTURES TAKEN AFTER TAKING THE U-TURN.
