The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that upon purchase of the vehicle, the rear driver’s side strut was replaced. Recently, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a routine maintenance check; while being inspected, the contact was informed that the passenger’s side rear and driver’s side front struts had been saturated with oil. The passenger’s side front strut had also started to leak but was not saturated in oil. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 25,870.

For months now I have noticed a significant increase in the handling of my car to the point it is erratic and almost hard to drive, I have had my alignment looked at and have also seen that the inside of my rear tires is wearing more than the others as told to me in service reports for my car. A recall was put out for my vehicle which seems to be affected by almost every single recall but it says my car is not affected by this one. Which is The rear suspension toe link fasteners may not have been properly tightened to the frame, possibly allowing separation from the frame and tighten the rear toe link fasteners, check and adjust the rear toe alignment, and inspect the rear tires for abnormal tire wear, replacing them if necessary. I think if anyone else has had similar issues this recall needs to be expanded to other vehicles.

All 4 struts and shocks are leaking. The vehicle has less than 30,000 miles. This is dangerous and will cause tire issues, stopping issues and more. A quick google search shows this exists on many expeditions. Diagnosed by mechanic during annual inspection. The parts are bad and others have reported the same issue at less than 10000 miles. Many states don’t require inspections so how many are out there with bad suspension?

Rear struts failed at approximately 36, 000 miles - the vehicle was unsafe driving down the interstate at speed due to the bouncing. Independent mechanic confirmed rear strut failure on driver and passenger side. Additionally, front driver side strut failed. In addition to bouncing, this made rear brakes wear out unusually quick. Steering became light due to the front strut. There was no warning lights to indicate an issue. Took to independent mechanic due to unavailability of maintenance appointments at Ford.

Both Rear shocks leaked oil at 37k causing vehicle to become very bouncy and unsafe to drive/control

All four struts are leaking and causing erratic handling when rough roads are encountered. FORD has known of this problem for several years and refuses to replace after their base warranty, even though I have a full coverage extended warranty. If a consumer doesn't realize they have a defective suspension it could lead to their death. FORD has a service bulletin out on this problem. - strut, yes -yes -yes -yes -no, leakage of oil on garage floor

With approximately 42,600 miles on 2019 Expedition, two Ford Service Centers diagnosed the vehicle control issue as suspension related. Specifically, loss of vehicle control due to shocks. Upon inspection by Ford, shocks were found to be leaking and not providing adequate suspension. Two separate Ford Service Centers advised replacement of all four shocks. Wife had been complaining about this for a month or more (June/July 2022). I didn’t believe her until weeks later I drove her car and two Ford Service Centers conforming all shocks needed replacement. I just could not believe at 42,000 miles all shocks needed replacement nor could Ford Service Center. Nor could I believe the severity of control. I experienced loss of control similar to a bucking horse with my head hitting the interior roof of the Expedition. My hands, both, were suddenly off the steering wheel due to up and forward bucking. I was able to slow the Expedition down by braking and regaining the steering wheel. I was luckily. Speed was below 45 mph. No warning lights or voice occurred. This occurred in August 2022.

This vehicle has only 10300 miles and never driven off road and the struts have failed. An independent garage confirmed the drivers side front strut is leaking and both rear. My Ford dealer stated they would replace the front and one rear under warranty but the second rear strut is leaking within Ford's "tolerances". This is just Ford's way of avoiding a warranty claim and hoping the bad leaking doesn't start until after the customer's warranty expires so they can reap thousands of dollars in repair revenue. I was also told by the Ford dealership that the FoMoCo replacement struts often arrive at the dealership leaking and they would not call me in for an appointment to replace until they have confirmed they received replacement struts that are not defective. My research shows this is a common problem with this vehicle and the NHTSA should investigate and force a recall since failed struts can cause a serious accident.

The vehicle only has 38K miles on it and all 4 struts have failed. This is apparently a very common problem for Ford. This creates control issues and an unsafe ride. I had the vehicle in for a different recall and the Ford dealership confirmed all 4 are leaking and need to be replaced, but Ford will not cover them.

Both the driver side and passenger side front struts have leaked oil and failed. The driver side occurred after 33,000 miles and the passenger side at 45,000 miles.
