The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the traction control and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that a minute and a half later, while attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel became firm, and added effort was needed to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

while driving the vehicle goes into what I have found is called sleep mode.. The check engine lite comes on and the left info panel shows that the all wheel drive is not working. The dealer tried to see what codes were set and found none. My solution is to pull off the road, put the vehicle in park and turn off the ignition. After about 30 seconds I can restart the vehicle and drive again. The restart lasts from 15 seconds to a month. I found a TSB ( 16-0139) that covered this problem. However it did not offer any cure. I am concerned that someone will hit me when this happens.

Engine mounds wearing out and Ford says they are in backorder for almost a year now. If there's such a demand. Then why isn't there recall that so many people are requesting them but Ford can't supply them.

Water Pump on the vehicle (That is inside the engine) start leaking without driver notice it. If you're driving in a busy Highway the engine can lose presure and stop in the middle of the highway puting driver and passengers in a risky position. This is a design mistake from FORD that they should address.

The truck has been in shop 5 times or actually 5 different dealerships. The recall has yet to be fixed but I continually pay to have the problem INVESTIGATED. The dash flashes loss of fuel pressure, service advance track soon, Battery level and mechanic wrench . I have this on video as it is constant occurrence. Each time ford takes it in they can't make the issue happen or recreate it. As told several times happens sporadic and not under any certain conditions. Over and over paying diagnostic fee and what they say will repair the issue only it happens pulling off the lot at 5 star ford Dallas Texas took it in under default to Bob Tomas Mckinney where they scanned it and found 17 communication errors left it there nothing was done but more exploration of issues going down the list of com failures and paying for each 3 anyway and it did it again leaving me stranded 3 times to count eventually leaving at Don Davis Ford Arlington Texas where it was again said repaired and is currently at Planet Ford Dallas where historically I paid $2850 and NOTHING was done as it again left me stranded and towed there where it can sit until it's fixed meaning this loss of horsepower the electric flashes and the gears in transmission ACTUALLY FUNCTION AS PER REQUESTED EACH TIME IN SERVICE

the car unexpectedly loses power while driving on the highway causing several near crashed having to move to the brake down lane .The wrench symbol shows up on dash and the car is trying to stall at idle. I have to shut it off and restart to drive it. Check engine light does NOT go on. Car has 96k miles .It has happened 4x's in the last month. My research says its the Throttle body. I am trying to bring it to Ford to confirm.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND THE LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT FLASHED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BOTH A DEFECTIVE O2 SENSOR AND LOW OIL PRESSURE SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HER THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.

VEHICLE OVERHEATED WITHOUT WARNING LEAVING ME STRANDED ON A DESERTED HIGHWAY. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A MECHANIC AND HAVING THEM COME TO THE VEHICLES LOCATION AND PERFORMING A VISUAL INSPECTION HE STATED ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING FROM THE WATER PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER AND UPON COMPLETING A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK THEY CONFIRMED THE 'INTERNAL' WATER PUMP HAD FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS CONTACTED 5 TIMES BY THE DEALERSHIP AND EACH TIME THE NEWS GOT WORSE. THEN FINAL CALL THE ADVISOR TOLD ME TO FIX IT AND NOTHING WAS GOING TO BE GUARANTEED TO LAST IT WAS GOING TO COST APPROXIMATELY $4,000 BEFORE TAXES. THEY'D ALSO HAVE TO CHANGE THE OIL TWICE ALONG WITH THE SPARK PLUGS. THE VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN AT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR MAINTENANCE AND TO FIX OUTSTANDING RECALLS AND AFTER CHECKING THE SERVICE MANUAL NOTHING IS 'SUGGESTED' 'RECOMMENDED' OR 'REQUIRED' TO SERVICE THE INTERNAL WATER PUMP.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 25071531. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 111,000.

I BOUGHT MY EXPLORER IN JUNE 2019. AFTER PURCHASING I NOTICED THE SMELL OF THE EXHAUST INSIDE THE VEHICLE .THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS I DROVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN DUE TO THE A.C. NOT WORKING PROPERLY . I CONTINUED SMELLING THE EXHAUST BUT FINANCIALLY UNABLE TO SEEK REPAIRS. WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES THE WINDOWS NOW CLOSED THE SMELL OF THE EXHAUST WAS MORE APPARENT AND I BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE SEVERE HEADACHES, FREQUENT NAUSEA, FATIGUE AND SOME DIZZINESS AND CONFUSION. I WAS TOLD OF REPORTS OF CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE AND SPOKE TO FORD ABOUT REPAIRS AS WELL AS OTHER RECALLS NEEDED FOR MY EXPLORER. I TOOK MY CAR FOR THE REPAIRS TODAY AND AM STILL EXPERIENCING THE CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUE STILL. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOMORROW AS THIS WASN'T REPAIRED. I'M CONCERNED FOR MY HEALTH AND HAVING THIS ISSUE NOT FIXED .

IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES AND CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOWER RATE, AND WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO SAVE THE RECEIPTS FOR REIMBURSEMENT IF A RECALL WAS ISSUED. WHEN TRYING TO MAKE AN UNPROTECTED LEFT TURN AT A STOP SIGN, I PRESSED THE GAS AND MY CAR DIDN'T MOVE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS ONCE IT DOD MOVE IT TOOK A FEW MORE SECONDS FOR IT TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO SAFELY MAKE MY TURN. THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN THE LANE I WAS CROSSING OVER FOR THE TURN HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY BECAUSE MY CAR DIDN'T MAKE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION FAST ENOUGH. I WAS TOLD THAT MY TURBO BOOST WAS BAD. I HAVE A 2012 ECO BOOST MODEL AND IT WAS CLASSIFIED AS 'UNDER BOOST' WHICH WASN'T ALLOWING MY CAR TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY AND WOULD EVENTUALLY GIVE OUT COMPLETELY NOT ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE AT ALL.

(RE)STARTING AUGUST 1, 2017, WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING DECELERATE, WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL. FORD CALLS THIS THEIR "LIMP HOME MODE." THE WRENCH ICON WARNING WOULD DISPLAY AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WOULD SHUDDER UNTIL IT WAS PUT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF. USUALLY, IT WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATIONS AFTER BEING RESTARTED, HOWEVER, ON ONE OCCASION, IT TOOK THREE ATTEMPTS TO RESTART. AFTER TWO SUCH INCIDENTS OCCURRING IN LESS THAN A MILE, I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (OR, REALLY, ANY OTHER PLACE) AS THERE IS NO INDICATION TO OTHER DRIVERS AND THE VEHICLE ACTIVELY DECELERATES, RATHER THAN COASTING. DURING ONE SUCH INCIDENT, THE DECELERATION WAS SO PRONOUNCED THAT PASSENGERS JERKED FORWARD IN THEIR SEATS AND A CANINE PASSENGER LOST ITS FOOTING, FALLING INTO THE BACK OF THE SEATS. WE PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2015, LEAVING ME AND A SMALL CHILD STRANDED WHEN THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESTART AT ALL. AS PART OF A "GOODWILL" REPAIR DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING JUST OUT OF WARRANTY, THE ETB (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) AND PURGE VALVE WERE REPLACED BY FORD. I FILED COMPLAINT 10787972 WITH THE NHTSA ON 10/25/2015. IN 5 YEARS, THIS WILL BE THE SECOND REPLACEMENT OF A PART THAT'S EXPECTED TO LAST WELL OVER 6 YEARS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, IS AND HAS BEEN SUED, AND IS BEING INVESTIGATED.

TURBO GONE BAD - CAR BEGAN MAKING LOUD RATTLE NOISE WHEN STARTED. NOISE WOULD SUBSIDE SOME AFTER A FEW MINUTES. CAR HAS BEEN VERY SLOW TO ACCELERATE, WHENEVER IT'S BEING DRIVEN, OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. HAVE TO REALLY PRESS DOWN ALL THE WAY ON THE GAS IN ORDER TO KEEP IT GOING. THE MPG HAVE BEEN STEADILY DECLINING AS WELL OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. DEALER TOLD ME IT'S A "TURBO PROBLEM". WAS TOLD THAT 180 OTHER 2012 EXPLORERS ARE ALSO AFFECTED, PARTS ON BACK-ORDER FOR SIX WEEKS. CAN'T DRIVE CAR. REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY $3500. FORD OFFERING NO RELIEF AT THIS POINT.

I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXHAUST FUMES SMELL IN MY VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATING UP HILLS OR WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. MY FAMILY HAS SUFFERED SYMPTOMS SUCH AS HEADACHES AND LIGHTHEADEDNESS DUE TO THE SMELLS. THE SMELL IS A VERY STRONG EXHAUST FUMES SMELL AND LASTS FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE.

TURBO FAILURE WHILE DRIVING, LARGE LOSS OF POWER AND POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT. TURBO CHARGER FAILED ON MY 2.0L ECOBOOST ENGINE AT 58,000 MILES. TURBO FAILED WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSED VERY POOR PERFORMANCE AND COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A WRECK. TURBO FAILURE DOES NOT CREATE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR GIVE ANY INDICATION THAT IS HAS FAILED OTHER THAN A LARGE LOSS OF POWER AND THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN. TURBO FAILURE IS SUDDEN AND THERE IS NO INDICATIONS PRIOR TO IT FAILING. THE TURBO WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY DUE TO VEHICLES AGE EVEN THOUGH UNDER 60K.

I ALSO HAD TO PAY TO HAVE MY SELECTOR LEVER ASSEMBLY REPLACED AGAIN SINCE I WAS AGAIN HAVING THE ISSUE OF VEHICLE PROBLEM OF "SHIFT TO PARK" APPEARING ONCE AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME THIS PART WAS REPLACED IT WAS COVERED UNDER TSB 15-0047, BUT THIS TIME IT WAS AT MY EXPENSE.

ON JUNE 20, 2016 AT 1:38 PM CENTRAL TIME, I SENT MY HUSBAND THE FOLLOWING TEXT: "IS THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER STILL IN THE CAR?" DUE TO THE OVERPOWERING SMELL OF SMOKE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT SHORTLY AFTER GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS AND EXITED THE FREEWAY, STOPPING AT THE FAR END OF A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS NO SMOKE NOR ODOR EMANATING FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. DUE TO THE HEAT, WE DRIVE WITH THE AIR RECIRCULATING MOST OF THE YEAR. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST THREE TIMES I TURNED THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT AND ALL WAS FINE FOR A FEW MINUTES, BEFORE THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS IS QUITE A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE IN. I HAVE ALSO SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FROM SEVERAL OTHER FORD AND LINCOLN OWNERS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF ANYWHERE IS NOT SAFE AND CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENTS WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW LIGHT AND I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE FORD DEALER TO GET IT FIXED. AFTER A MONTH OF OWNING THE 2012 FORD EXPLORER WE NOTICED A VERY FOUL EXHAUST SMELL FROM INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE EXPLORER. MY CAR IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST INCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH AND MY CAR JUST SUDDENLY STALLED. I SAW AN "AWD OFF" MESSAGE ON MY DASH. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO THE FOOT PEDDLE. I HIT THE BRAKES AND KILLED THE ENGINE. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE ON TO WORK. I JUST ASSUMED THAT I HAD SOMEONE HIT THE GEAR INTO THAT MODE. BUT IT HAPPENED A 2ND AND THEN A 3RD TIME THAT SAME WEEK. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AROUND THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST. BEFORE I BROUGHT THE CAR, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR OTHER RELATED COMPLAINTS FROM FORD OWNERS. I FOUND A SITE AT WWW.CARGURUS.COM AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER FORD OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. ONE OWNER SAID THAT HIS DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE "THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY" AND HE HAS NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM AGAIN. I BROUGHT THIS INFORMATION TO MY DEALERSHIP AND I PAID THEM $99.00 FOR THIS SERVICE CALL. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, BUT THEY DID DO SOME SORT OF SERVICE NOTICE THAT I HAD NOT YET DONE ON MY CAR. THEY HOPED IT WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IT DID FOR ABOUT A MONTH. BUT THIS WEEK, IT HAPPENED 5 MORE TIMES. YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT IT HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT NOW AND I AM HOPING THAT THEY WILL FIND THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY IS THE ISSUE. IF NOT, THEN I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND THAT I MAY BE REAR ENDED ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE I AM TRYING TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FORD MUST KNOW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED OF APROX. 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND DRAMATICALLY LOST SPEED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL / MOTOR SPEED CEASED RESPONDING AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGHLY. THE CAR WENT INTO "IDLE" AND I WAS FORCED TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE EVENT WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED. I HAD NO WARNING AND NOT ENOUGH POWER TO GET OFF THE ROAD. AN ORANGE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART WITH NORMAL OPERATION. I IMMEDIATELY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY REPLACED THE LEFT VALVE COVER. I DROVE THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL 14 DAYS LATER WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED. THIS SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL SEEMS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN. ON MONDAY 10MARCH2014, MY 2012 FORD EXPLORER STARTED AND IMMEDIATELY STALLED OUT, WHEN I LOOK AT THE DASH IT HAD SAID IT HAD LOW OIL PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CAVALIER FORD IN CHESAPEAKE, VA WHERE IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE AND HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAVE TO BE REPLACED. DURING FURTHER TROUBLE SHOOTING IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HENDERSON FORD IN BAY ST. LOUIS, MS HAD INSTALLED A FUEL INJECTOR INTO THE ENGINE WITHOUT PROPERLY ENSURING THE CLEANLINESS OF EITHER THE INJECTOR OR THE POINT OF INSERTION. ON MONDAY MARCH 10, 2014 I STARTED THE MY 2012 FORD EXPLORER AND DROVE IT TO WORK APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES AND SHUT IT OFF, AFTER 25 MINUTES I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO START IT. THE VEHICLE STARTED AND THEN IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF AND SAID LOW OIL PRESSURE, I PROCEEDED TO REMOVE THE KEY AND OPEN THE HOOD.
