To Whom it may concern, In February 2025 I was notified by Ford Motor Co. that there's been a recall on my 2013 Ford Explorer Manufacturer recall #24S02 and NHTSA recall #24V031. It also stated that I would be receiving another letter later in the year advising me to contact my dealer to make an appointment to have the recall problem fixed. I received another letter in September of this year advising me to contact my Ford dealer to make an appointment to get this recall fixed. I contacted my Ford dealer and they advised me that they have not received the parts yet and they didn't know when the parts would be arriving. Don't you think that Ford has had enough time to get this recall situation corrected ? They've known about this problem since 2023, and other than sending out a letter advising us of the recall, have done nothing to correct the problem, if in fact there really is one.
My 2013 White Four door Ford Explorer incidents occurred twice on the highway. The end pieces of the front windshield came off while driving on Hwy. 70 in Durham/Raleigh NC and on hwy somewhere in Raleigh! There was a Sherriff behind me the first time. My concern is the wind noise in my vehicle while driving and safety of the windshield for safety inspection. Crossroads Ford in Wake Forest NC service told me that it can take up to 30-60 days to get the parts for my 2013 Ford. I am disabled and I need my vehicle to be safe for doctor visits. Can the new parts be expedited or no?
Rear camera on 2013 Ford Explorer has stopped working. There is a safety recall for models beginning with 2015. This is just as much of a safety hazard with the 2013 model as with the 2015 model. Why are all Ford Explorers with this issue not covered by the recall?
I HAVE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER XLT AND THE BACK UP CAMERA HAS GONE OUT. THE PROBLEM BEGAN ABOUT A YEAR AGO WITH THE CAMERA WORKING SOMEDAYS AND OTHER DAYS THE SCREEN WAS BLANK WITH A MESSAGE FOR ME TO CONTACT MY FORD DEALERSHIP. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD EXPLORERS. SEVERAL OTHER FORD MODELS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AROUND THIS PARTICULAR YEAR HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT NOT THE EXPLORER, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS MOST FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WILL TELL YOU THAT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE PROPERLY WHEN REVERSING IN A FORD EXPLORER ESPECIALLY WITHOUT THE BACK UP CAMERA. THE BACK UP CAMERA IS VERY MUCH NEEDED FOR THIS SITUATION. i'VE ALSO READ THAT THE PROBLEM STEMS MAINLY FROM A LEAK IN THE TAILGATE WHERE WATER LEAKS IN ON THE CAMERA CONNECTION THUS CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION AND EVENTUALLY GO OUT COMPLETELY. AS YET, i HAVE NOT HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED YET BY FOR OR A LICENSED MECHANIC. I WANTED TO CHECK TO SEE IF I COULD FIND WHERE A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM ON MY EXPLORER, BUT AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY. I'M JUST WONDERING WHY THEY HAVEN'T RECALLED THE EXPLORERS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
The rear view camera is experiencing the same issues as the most recent recall of 2015-2025 explorers. Most often the rear view camera does not work at all --- other times it is on for a short duration, or is pixelated. I've watched the recalls expand from 2020 Ford vehicles to now 2015. Why doesn't it include earlier vehicles still on the road?
Pillar molding driver side
I am the owner of a 2013 Ford Explorer and have been experiencing repeated failures of the rear-view camera system. The camera often goes blank, displays distorted images, or intermittently cuts out when the vehicle is placed in revierse. I have reviewed the current recalls related to defective rear-view cameras on Ford vehicles, particularly those affecting model years 2015 and newer. While my 2013 Explorer is not included in these campaigns, the symptoms are identical to the recall descriptions and create the same safety risk: a loss of visibility when backing up. I am requesting that this issue be formally documented and investigated for the 2013 Ford Explorer, and that my vehicle be considered for inclusion in any applicable recall or service campaign. I have approximately 126,000 miles on my vehicle. I did have Dave Sinclair Ford (dealer) look at this on 4/15/2024 and the cost to repair was approximately $800+. I did not have the work completed. Please advise me on next steps, including whether my VIN can be added to any active recall. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Back up camera stopped working approximately 3-4 years ago.
Back up camera will go black intermittently when in reverse
The molding flew off my car when I was driving 60 miles an hour … very lucky it didn’t cause an accident as I had to swerve into oncoming traffic when it flew off. It happened in Sept 2024 October 25th is when when we brought it in to ford Geneva, NY They said it was a special order and needed to be ordered and would call when it arrived Never heard back Recently called to follow up Said it still didn’t come in and will call with no resolution to date.
My problem is with my back up camera. The sides are reversed when it comes on. Left is right and right is left. This is a serious safety defect that may cause an accident one day.
There has been a safety recall since Jan 2024 and there still no remedy although it said it should have been equipment by late 2024 its is now Aug 2025 it’s been over a year and still nothing.
Hello, I received Recall Notice #24V031 from Ford Motor Company regarding a safety-related issue and was instructed to have the repair completed at a dealership. I’ve made multiple attempts to schedule the repair, but each time I was told the part is on backorder. I was advised to contact Ford directly, which I did, but was then redirected back to the dealership—who again stated the part is unavailable. To my surprise, the dealership even suggested that I try purchasing the part myself from Amazon. This situation is unacceptable. This is a safety recall, and I should not be responsible for sourcing or purchasing the part required for a manufacturer-initiated repair. I am concerned about the delay and the lack of accountability from both the dealership and Ford. I am requesting immediate assistance in resolving this issue and ensuring the recall repair is completed without further delays or unreasonable expectations placed on me as the customer. Thank you,
My backup camera doesn't always work and when it does there is a delay seeing the image. I get a warning sign on my SYNC screen saying the camera is not available and to contact the dealership. I have contacted the dealership and the said I needed to contact Ford. They have since directed me to NHTSA. Not having a backup camera is a safety issue since there are some things that cannot be seen in a mirror when backing up.
Check engine light goes on and off. May stay on a day or 2 but goes back off. When I get it checked no mechanic seems to know why. Same with the check charging system light that comes on. Also, the trim on the outside kept coming out, hitting my passenger side window and cracking it. It has completely come off 2 days ago. Rain is getting in my car. Back tires keep losing air. There was an issue with getting an alignment due to incorrect hardware and wiring. There is a safety recall for this.
The camera in the console is reflecting everything backward. If I am backing into a parking stall, everything on my left appears on the right and vise versa. I don't rely on it but it is unsafe
The backup camera works for a couple seconds then goes to a all black screen
The backup camera on this vehicle stopped working correctly a while back. The image usually is shown mirror... so everything left-right is flipped which causes confusion for the driver. Other times the screen goes completely blank/black. Both of these create a safety issue when backing up, for cross traffic and pedestrians. This is issue just suddenly started one day. I asked the Ford dealer about it and being outside of the warranty period, there wasn't anything they could do. I can pay to replace the camera, but others reported doing that and the same problem came back later. I see now that Ford as active recalls for the same problem - but only for more recent model year vehicles.
Bad welding on the top left hinge of the liftgate allowed a crack to form over time. The crack exposed metal which allowed rust to form and leaks from rain water. This excess build up of water also allowed paint chipping and additional rust along the entirety of the crack and rear tray. This was discovered after some time, due to not being immediately visible from the rear of the car.

My 2013 Ford Explorer has a safety recall notice 24S02 that I received in the mail Feb 2024. Since getting the recall notice in the mail, I have tried numerous times over the past year with my Ford dealership in Glen Burnie, MD to get this recall taken care of. Every time I call, they keep saying they don’t have the parts and I am on the list for when parts come in they will call me etc…. Even before the recall was issued, in Oct 2023 I had the driver side molding and trim come off my vehicle. My husband and I were driving, heard something snap, had no idea what it was only when we parked the vehicle, we noticed the molding and trim on the driver side of my explorer had flown off on the road somewhere. I am thankful there were no accidents that happened. I did get the driver side molding and trim replaced and paid out of my own pocket to get this fixed. For all the parts $237.43 was the total (receipt is uploaded) and I am still waiting to be reimbursed for this since this recall. I will be uploading pictures of the molding and trim that came off my driver side (pic uploaded Oct 2023 when trim/molding came off) and when I paid for it to be fixed (receipt uploaded Oct 2023). I am also sending a recent picture of my passenger side trim (pic uploaded of passenger side gasket started to come off) because the gasket is falling apart and flying off into the air, which looks as if the trim and molding will eventually fly off as well since this is the safety recall. I need help in getting this safety recall fixed and also reimbursed for the other side molding and trim that I had to pay for. I feel as if I am getting the run around with my dealership and wanted to bring this to your attention. Rear view camera malfunction. Goes blank or gives a distorted image. Sometimes it gives a reverse image. Needs replaced. Could cause a crash or vehicular accident.
With the vehicle on, will sometimes get simultaneous warnings for "Hill Descent Control Fault" and "Service AdvanceTrac" along with 3 warnings/flags (ABS, Service AdvanceTrac, and Service AdvanceTrac OFF). Additionally, the instrument cluster/display will occasionally (less often) reset while the vehicle is still on and driving.
Passenger side windshield pillar flew off of the vehicle while traveling on [XXX] in Williamsburg, Virginia. Pillar flew between my vehicle and other vehicles beside me and behind me. This was in mid-April 2024. The vehicle was inspected in June/July 2024 by Ford Motor Company, Cavalier Ford, Chesapeake, Virginia 23321 and I have been waiting ever since for the replacement part to come in. Our steering wheel locked when we were about to leave our destination and drive back an hour to go home.
The A Pillar failed on my vehicle while driving on the interstate. When it failed, it wrapped around my side passenger mirror and broke a piece off of the body of the mirror housing. Ford not only has not repaired the A Pillar in a timely manner, but they refuse to cover the passenger side mirror that the failed product damaged. The incident happened in early August 2024. I opened an escalated ticket with Ford, who promised that a representative would contact me by phone within 1 business day and that was October 14th, and no one has contacted me to this date. I was notified of the recall back in January. Why has Ford not made any progress on making the parts available for this recall repair?
The side pillar of my windshield flew off on the freeway and probably hit another car this was very dangerous and now I'm missing a piece of my car. This recall need to be fixed asap
I have been waiting patiently for the recall (24S02/24V031) to be completed for my vehicle as it has been over 6 months since I received a letter. I have called the dealership several times, and they are waiting on Ford to deliver the parts to the dealership to make the repair. I am worried that this issue may get worse if it is not completed soon. What can you help me with to get this issue resolved quickly? When there is very high wind, I am worried that the parts will come off and break my side windows.
When I was driving suddenly vehicle shakes and gas/acceleration paddle stopped working middle of the road. I pulled my car side of the road, put it in park and turn off vehicle and start it back on gas/acceleration paddle work again. Problem is this happened several times last few weeks.
Still waiting on the recall from February 2024. Regarding exterior A-pillar trim clip attachment. Parts are barely hanging on around my windshield. I need my windshield replaced but i feel I can't until the recall trim is complete. Is there any updates or time-frame as to when this recall will be completed?
Both exterior trim (that are connected to the windscreen) have detached and flown off the vehicle. The first one came of during high winds while driving several months ago. The other other one subsequently cam off in a similar fashion while I was driving on the highway. I initially contacted my insurance company but the out of pocket expense was more than I could afford. I then discovered there was a recall but attempts to get it fixed at the Ford Motor Company has not been successful. They report that they have not received the parts or released by the company to deal with the recall. Can you please advise?
Mechanic informed me that there is a recall on the rear toe link, but it is not showing up for my car. I am on my 2nd set of rear tires in two months. When driving in Rain I have almost lost control of my steering many times when I drive over even a splash of water. My local ford dealership will not honor the recall because my VIN is not on the list.
I own a 2013 Ford Explorer. While driving in the rain exiting the freeway at approximate speed of 25 MPH the steering wheel seemed to lock up and then was extremely difficult to steer, making it impossible to maneuver the vehicle causing me to hydroplane across several lanes until I crashed into a mature bush. Causing damage to my radiator. I have not taken it to the dealer and have only shopped around for independent mechanics. I am not sure of the extent of other damage. I just became aware that this is a similar problem for other owners. The car is currently undrivable and is going to cost me a large amount of money - now the registration has lapsed (cannot smog) and I have DMV fees to. This was a solo car accident and no other people were in my vehicle at the time. I saw the recall notice (recently) on NHTSA but my VIN number is not included. I have not contacted anyone yet regarding this - I am already have trouble with FORD regarding covered repairs and being charged for a rental car (that was supposed to be included) Not sure what to do! Now i am making payments on a vehicle that i cannot drive and i cannot afford to purchase another one.

While driving at highway speeds, I heard a rattling sound twice and then noticed something flew off of my car. I couldn't tell what at the time. When I was able to look later, the driver's side front a-pillar (which I was recently informed has a recall on it) was gone. This had then become a hazard in the road for other driver's. No remedy for the recall is available at this time. There was no warning lights or alarms at the time.

UNKNOWN. My sister had went to town in her car. She had came back home and parked the car in the driveway. After doing so her and her husband we inside, heard a rumbling sound went outside and car was on fire. The neighbors say they saw the car just catch on fire in her driveway. She had purchased the car less than 60 days ago in Manhattan, ks from CSM AUTO.
My power steering just stopped working while I was driving at 45 mph. Then all my warning light were going off saying faulty break system faulty hill decent something about my charging system. This has happened 4 times now where my power steering goes out WHILE I’M DRIVING.
The driver side exterior A-pillar applique trim detached from the vehicle in early 2020. I assumed the failure was a chance occurrence, but a recently reported recall identified this as a manufacturer's defect. I had to have the repair done myself at a cost of $335.81.
I bought the car from auction. The car was Represent like "Run and drive". But the car come with a lot of rust into the frame and this problem means a structural damage. The car it is not good for driving and it is not possible to be registered.

2013 Ford Explorer: Power Steering service now red light came on as problem occured it did ding, but not in time for reaction. While driving the wheel will lock no matter how fast or slow you are going. Put myself, my children and husband in danger, as well as others. This has occurred now 4 times in the last month. It is being sent to dealership for a current Recall. No police or insurance has inspected.
The passenger side windshield panel trim flew off my car, at 60 mph. 6-8 months ago, the driver side windshield panel trim did the exact same thing at the exact same mph. This is absolutely ABSURD that Ford has not issued a recall for this.

While driving on highway, 65-70 mph, both sides windshield trim flew off of vehicle. The right side first , then the left side approximately 5 minutes later. Unsure if debris struck any vehicles behind me.
This weekend we were driving down the interstate and all of a sudden the windshield trim flew off. It didn’t cause any wrecks thankfully but the cars behind us did break all of a sudden and another swerved. Luckily nothing happened but it could of caused an accident.
The front windshield trim starting flapping and hitting my side window and windshield while driving approximately 65 miles an hour. At first I had no idea what the loud noise was. Something was in my eye sight hitting my window and windshield. I did not know what was happening, it was very startling and scary! I was in traffic. I pulled over as soon as I could, trying to avoid getting hit by other vehicles. When I was able to get out, I saw the trim had come loose. I taped it so I could continue on my trip. It is very frightening and unsafe while in traffic. The other side of the windshield trim is now coming out. I fear that the windshield is not secure. A couple of months ago, I received a letter about this problem in the mail. We made an appt. with Ford dealer to get it fixed. I had to cancel that appt. due to an emergency. I contacted the dealer last week and said I could now bring the Explorer in to get it fixed. I was told that there has never been a recall or any letters addressing this problem sent out to owners. I DID receive a letter several months ago, my husband took the letter to Ford when he scheduled the original appt. and the dealer kept it as reference! Now I am told that a letter about this windshield trim has never existed! I will take my Explorer to a dealer and get it repaired, letter or no letter. I feel like Ford is not being totally honest with me about an unsafe problem.
The trim on the front windshield blows off constantly at highway speeds. I’ve had this car for a little over a year now and we’ve already replaced it four different times. Every time, it stays on about a month before it detaches and blows off again. The last time, it just barely missed the car behind me. I haven’t replaced it since then because I am terrified the next time it happens, a motorcyclist will be behind me and it could hit them and cause a fatal accident. This is a SERIOUS issue that needs addressed! I should not be scared to drive my car over 45 MPH for fear of causing a serious accident! On top of that, not replacing it means it now leaks into my car when it rains. I love my explorer but the trim on it is absolute garbage..
The back up camera is now inverted. What is coming from the left appears to be coming from the right, and what is coming from the right appears to be coming from the left. Once the problem started, it has not gone away. The problem was confirmed at an independent service center.
The passenger side windshield trim panel has flown off. When asking the dealership about it, they said it was an issue with the Explorers and that it will most likely happen to the second one as well. We are unable to attach it back on but have kept the piece as we were able to pull over and retrieve it.
Windshield trim on both sides detached while driving . First incident was November 2019 while driving 70 mph on the DC beltway. The part landed in the middle of the road and was run over by several vehicles traveling behind me, but there was no damage to any of them. The second incident occurred during the summer of 2020 while driving 50 mph on a local, well traveled road. The part landed in the grass on the side of the road and did not hit any other vehicles. I have seen numerous other ford explorers that are also missing the windshield trim, and have read several articles stating there have been numerous reports of this issue occurring frequently, but it has not been confirmed by a dealership of any other service center. This issue has not been inspected by a dealership, law enforcement, or my insurance company. There was no indication prior to the trim detaching on either side that it was loose or not properly installed.
The driver side windshield panel flew off/broke off while driving at 55-60 mph.
I was driving down the highway yesterday (Sunday, March 26, 2023) and the windshield trim panel on the driver's side flew off. I was doing the speed limit, which was 70 MPH. Thank goodness there wasn't anyone behind me! It could have smashed into their windshield!

The SUV will swerve into other lane when it switches gears. Replaced both struts. Odor in the cab. Coolant will not stay and after spending $1000 for repairs, it still cannot be fixed. Cracked head gasket.
The trim piece on the windshield post along the side of the windshield fell off while traveling on a highway. It flew into the air and may have struck another vehicle. We replaced that piece on the drivers side of our car but a few months ago the trim on the passenger side flew off while traveling. This causes a safety problem to other drivers and could cause an accident. The first piece of trim was replaced. The problem has not been reviewed by the manufacturer, police or a insurance representative. There was no warning that this problem was about to occur.

I've had to replace the windshield trim panel piece three times because they keep flying off.
Passenger side windshield trim panel flew off and hit another vehicle after it bounced off the road. I replaced the trim parts for about $65. It appears that the seal and then the plastic retaining clips failed to secure the trim panel.
I have owned this car since 2013 - since it was new. For the 2nd time, I am getting messages saying "switch to park" when I put the car in park. The first time was in 2017 after about 48000 miles. When I took it to the dealer they replaced a part of the transmission. Now again it is happening in 2022 at almost 72000 miles. Obviously the replacement part is just as bad as the original - probably worse since the 2nd time it only lasted about 24000 miles. I now have had to pay to replace a part of the transmission 2 times. Is this a message I could have ignored? Is it only a faulty sensor? Or is the transmission really not in park? Who knows what else it wrong with the transmission. If you google "switch to park ford explorer" you will see that there are many many others with the same problem. Even the dealer's service person when I brought it in to be fixed a 2nd time said they see this problem a lot. I have bought and driven Fords for the last 40 years - usually past 100000 miles each - and have never had this problem occur.
Ac is not blowing cold air, it is also making a hissing noise. I got it inspected by an independent service center, and was told it will be expensive to repair. It is very common with my year and make of vehicle. A freon leak it is very dangerous for a person to breathe in, and can cause significate damage to me and my baby.
Transfer case stopped working within 4 days. Known to be an ongoing problem for this vehicle. Made a screeching sound, locked up, clicking sound inside case and rendered vehicle undriveable instantly.
Water pump leaking
I have been going through multiple sites trying to figure out what is going on with my car. I have only had my vehicle for less than a year and I barely even gotten to drive it. I'm now realizing every recall on the vehicle which there was like 13 has not been repaired. And I also have 4 different numbers for the odometer when I when I bought the vehicle at a 177000 but everything is reading at a 169000. I also purchased the vehicle in June not July like the title says. Also one of the titles said plate's not allowed. When I looked it up I believe this is a fleet vehicle and it does not say that anywhere on my title or in my paperwork. It did come from Canada. Is there any way you could possibly help me out with any of this? Also I had broken fuses and missing fuses. I had the 4 dealership look at it and a mechanic look at it and they both told me it looked like someone messed around with the wiring in my car.

Carbon monoxide levels in the cab. Persistent 10ppm co2 in the cab of the vehicle. Peak at 30ppm. The recall for this issue had previously been completed. 2nd issue was a valve allowed oil to infiltrate the intake which resulted in odor in the vehicle
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at various speeds, she heard abnormal loud banging sounds coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that water had been leaking through the sunroof onto the headliner down to the driver’s side door and floorboard of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had damaged the sunroof motor. The contact replaced the sunroof motor himself; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact also stated that the master power door switch keypad on the driver’s side door had been blinking continuously and had been draining the battery. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while making a right turn at 15 MPH, the power steering assist warning light was illuminated, and the steering wheel seized. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The contact stated he turned off the vehicle 3-5 times until the warning light turned disappeared, before continuing to drive to his residence. The contact is called LaFayette Ford, Inc. (5202 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304, (910) 424-0281) & Crown Ford (256 Swain St, Fayetteville, NC 28303: (910) 600-6598) and made them aware of the failure. The contact stated that in September 2021, he experienced the failure for a second time. The contact took the vehicle to Crown Ford and was informed that the brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

The Power steering failed on my 2013 Explorer XLT. I Brought my vehicle to my local Ford dealership service center: Corwin Ford Reno 3600 Kietzke Ln, Reno, NV. 775-329-8800. The service representative told me that the vehicles core steering had an internal failure and that it would take up to 2 months to get the parts and cost $3,173.39 to affect the steering repair. I asked and was told that Ford has over 1,300 of these specific steering units on back order. This tells me that they not only burned through their reserve supply of that part, but that they also have a demand for 1,300 more ! This is an obvious safety issue which has rendered my Explorer un-drivable. If the failure had occurred at high speed the consequences could have been grave! Apparently, I'm not the only one experiencing this specific issue. In my opinion, the steering was inadequately engineered, resulting in premature failure. My Explorer is my wife's daily driver. It has never been taken "off road" or subjected to any other duress. It is strictly a city/highway vehicle. After contacting Ford (Case No. CAS-34220695-K8P5P6 CRM:0222477) and voicing my concern, All that they offered was to expedite the parts request. I am 63 years old and have owned 16 automobiles, 9 have been Fords. Never have any of them required any service to the steering mechanism, much less a total failure of that system. Ford has an obvious problem with this part and I should not be required to pay over $3,000.00 to correct their engineering shortcumming. I respectfully request that you intervene on my behalf and attempt to resolve the issue. There are no open recalls or warranties on this vehicle at this time.
I have been having problem with my emergency brakes , the brake light system is present and i have took it to brake check and they inspected it and they said everything look good i have had this problem for several months
I drive a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD. While driving to the store last week I entered a roundabout when suddenly the wrench icon showed on my dash with a message display that read, "terrain management fault." The car would not accelerate even when I pressed the pedal all the way to the ground. My momentum took me out of the roundabout where I pulled over in a parking lot. As I put the car in park It begin to shake in idle. I turned the engine off and waited a few seconds then tuned it back on. The car drove just fine after that for about two days then this incident happened again twice in one day. I took the vehicle to the local ford dealership and they said they could not get the issue to present again so there was nothing that they could do. I took the car back home and it has happened a few more times. This is a total of about 7 times in the past 3 weeks and Ford cannot help remedy this issue. These incidents have put my family in dangerous situations. When researching online I found multiple accounts of this same issue. According to online forums it looks like it may be a problem with the throttle body.

ON 4/29/19 I CONTACTED FORD AGAIN AND THE REPRESENTATIVE PRETTY MUCH SAID THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY & THERE ARE NO EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON THE CAR SO I WAS OUT OF LUCK. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT IT APPEARS IT MAY BE SOME SORT OF MANUFACTURING DEFECT POSING A HAZARD/LIABILITY TO MY FAMILY WHICH HE SHOWED NO INTEREST OF CARING. THE HORN AT THIS TIME IS NOT WORKING.
I AM REQUESTING THAT THE DOT NHTSA LOOK INTO THE POSSIBILITY OF A TIRE DEFECT THAT CAN AFFECT THE SAFE OPERATION OF VEHICLES WITH COOPER DISCOVERER SRX TIRES. OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS I HAVE HAD THEM IN 2 SEPARATE TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE TIRES DO NOT HAVE A HOLE IN THEM NOR LEAK AT THE BEAD BUT ARE LEAKING DUE TO WEATHER OR OTHER. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS WITH COOPER TIRES TO HANDLE THE SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY NOT HANDLED THEIR WARRANTY MATTER. LEADING TO THE CONCLUSION, THAT THERE IS NOT A LARGE INCLINE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FORCED OUT OF PARK. THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION IS ENGAGED INTO PARK OR THERE IS YET ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFT LINKAGE. THE SHIFT LINKAGE WAS ADJUSTED THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. THE SECOND TIME THE SHIFT LINKAGE WAS REPLACED. WE ARE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY TO SEE WHAT THEY FEEL NEEDS REPLACED THIS TIME.

NOW HAS SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER LEAKING FROM RIGHT DRIVERS SIDE INTO FLOORBOARD, BELT SQUEALS WHEN ACCELERATING IN RAIN CAUSING LIGHTS TO DIM AND VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. MILDEW SMELL VERY STRONG COMING FROM AIR VENTS CAUSING HEADACHES WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE. THIS LEAK OCCURS AFTER AFTER EVERY RAINSTORM WHILE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND WILL LEAK INTO CABIN ONTO LEG WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, LEAKAGE ENTRANCE POINT UNKNOWN, BUT EXITS INTO VEHICLE UNDER STEERING WHEEL. FORD CORPORATE CONTINUES TO BLOW ME OFF AND WANTS ME TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS WHICH I HAVE ALREADY DONE. WE MADE IT FINE TO OUR DESTINATION, DROVE AROUND TOWN A LITTLE BIT, AND STAYED THE NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY WE HEADED HOME (ANOTHER 2.5 HR TRIP). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON THE ENTIRE TIME, BUT THERE WERE NO ABNORMAL NOISES OR ODORS, OR ANY OTHER INDICATION THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE. WHEN WE GOT HOME, WE PARKED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF, UNLOADED, THEN TURNED IT ON TO BACK IT INTO THE GARAGE AND TURN IT OFF AGAIN. AFTER SITTING IN THE GARAGE FOR 10 -15 MINUTES, THE CAR EXPLODED, SHAKING THE HOUSE AND CATCHING THE ENGINE BAY ON FIRE. THE ENGINE BAY WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES, CAUSING FIRE/SMOKE DAMAGE TO OUR GARAGE AND EVERYTHING IN IT. AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE COOLING FAN HAD FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, HOWEVER THAT SEEMS LIKE NOT A SUFFICIENT REASON TO WHY THE ENGINE EXPLODED. WE ARE UNSURE WHAT THE ROOT CAUSE WAS, BUT SOMETHING HAD TO HAVE GONE VERY WRONG FOR THE CAR TO EXPLODE IN THE GARAGE, IGNITION OFF, AND STATIONARY AND THE ONLY INDICATION BEING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT EVEN IF THE COOLING FAN DID FAIL. THIS ALL HAPPENED JUST OVER A WEEK AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE VERY LIKELY ENDED UP IN INJURY OR DEATH.

WELL, IF YOU USE THE BUTTONS, INSTEAD OF THE TOUCH SCREEN, YOU CAN UNKNOWINGLY OVERRIDE THIS REPROGRAMMING. THEY DID NOT TELL ME THIS. I GO THROUGH THE GEARS IN THE MANUAL MODE AND DRIVE THIS HARD. YOU CAN STILL SMELL EXHAUST AND GET SYMPTOMS. BORROW A FIRE FIGHTERS "SNIFFER" AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE HARD AND WATCH THE READOUT. IT CANT POSSIBLY TAKE THIS LONG OR BE THAT DIFFICULT TO RESOLVE THIS INVESTIGATION. YOU CAN EVEN PUT A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR IN THE VEHICLE AND WATCH-SIMPLE. GO THROUGH THE GEARS MANUALLY, RED-LINING THE VEHICLE YOU WILL GET THE SMELL AND SYMPTOMS. DRIVE THE VEHICLE HARD UP A STEEP GRADE, YOU WILL GET THE SYMPTOMS. TOW WITH THE VEHICLE UP A GRADE, YOU WILL GET THE SMELL AND SYMPTOMS, ALL WITH A/C ON RECIRCULATE. LESS SO WITH OUT IT BEING ON RECIRCULATE. THEY COULDN'T EVEN POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF A GLASS SHOP BUT WERE HAPPY TO TAKE MY MONEY FOR SOMETHING THAT COSTS A TOTAL OF $90 ONLINE AS THEY TOLD ME 'DON'T TRUST PARTS ORDERED ONLINE' BUT ODDLY ENOUGH I SHOULD TRUST PARTS MANUFACTURED BY FORD WHEN THEY CREATED THE ORIGINAL PIECE AND BRACKET THAT HOLDS IT(WHICH I ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE AS IT BROKE AS WELL) THAT FLEW OFF AT 60 MPH.

THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ON THE 13TH STATING A KNOWN TSB HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED (THE TSB NUMBER WAS NOT DISCLOSED). UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME (APPROX 25 MILES), THE SULFURIC ODOR WAS STILL PRESENT. DRIVER EXPERIENCED DIZZINESS NEAR THE END OF THE COMMUTE HOME. ON NOV 15TH, DRIVER'S SPOUSE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED THE SAME SULFURIC ODOR AND EXPERIENCED A HEADACHE AFTER APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES OF BEING IN THE VEHICLE. BOTH DRIVERS EXPERIENCED THE ODOR WHILE STATIONARY AS WELL AS IN MOTION. BOTH DRIVERS WERE DRIVING IN A MIX OF CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING.

THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE SAME PARTS THAT THEY HAD REPLACED FOR THE ENTIRE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORERS IN OUR COUNTY (WASHINGTON COUNTY, UT) IT COST ME OVER 500 DOLLARS. IT DID NOT FIX IT. IT SEEMED TO BE WORSE.THEY HAVE NOW ORDERED MORE PARTS AND SAID IT WILL COST ME OVER 500 DOLLARS AGAIN. THAT'S OVER $1,000 SO FAR. AND OVER THE LAST SIX MONTH I HAVE HAD HEADACHES ALMOST EVERY DAY. I'VE TOLD FORD MANY TIMES BUT THEY SAY THERE'S NO RECALL. OR THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF ITS MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. AT THE TIME IN 2014, WHEN I REALLY TOOK NOTICE, MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MY CAR OUT OF ITS LEASE IN 6 OR7/2016 AND THERE WERE REPORTS OF EXHAUST ISSUES WITH PEOPLE HAVING A SMELL ON THE CABIN. AND THAT THE EXHAUST WASN'T A PROBLEM. I THOUGHT I HAD ROADKILL ROTTING UNDER MY CAR, BUT AFTER NUMEROUS UNDER CARRIAGE CAR WASHES AND THEEE YEARS LATER, THE CAR STILL HAS THAT NATURAL GAS SMELL.

IT DISAPATES A BIT WHEN THE AIR VENTS ARE SHUT AND ALL AIR (HEATING/AC) IS TURNED OFF COMPLETELY. UNDER STRAIN WITH AIR CONDITIONING IN RECYCLE MODE THE EXHAUST FUMES FILL THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. IN MAY 2016 THE DEALER PREFORMED TSB 14.0130 REPROGRAMMING OF THE HVAC MODULE. REPLACED AIR EXTRACTORS AND REAR FENDER MOULDINGS. RETESTED IT AND SAID IT WAS OK. AFTER DOING THEIR REPAIR IT DID HELP SOME BUT IT HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

THIS VEHICLE IS A MARKED POLICE DEPARTMENT PATROL VEHICLE, A 2013 FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITY SUV (EXPLORER). WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND IT STILL HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN EQUIPPED WITH AN AFTER-MARKET CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. WHEN THE DRIVER QUICKLY ACCELERATES WHILE THE HVAC SYSTEM IS IN "RECIRCULATE" MODE, THE DRIVER CAN SMELL EXHAUST FUMES. THE CO DETECTOR ALSO GIVES AN ALARM. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FIRE STATION, WHERE THEY USED AN INDUSTRIAL GAS DETECTOR, AND THEY HAVE DETECTED UP TO 35 PPM OF CO IN THE FRONT SEAT AREA. (THE FIREFIGHTERS TOLD US THEY ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AT 35 PPM.) THE DRIVER'S BLOOD LEVEL OF CARBON MONOXIDE ALSO HAS BEEN TESTED, AND 5 PPM OF CO WAS FOUND IN HIS BLOOD IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE (HE IS NOT A SMOKER). TWO PRIMARY REPAIRS ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THE FIRST WAS TO REPAIR A "PINHOLE" LEAK IN A GASKET ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE SECOND WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, WHERE THE REAR BUMPER WAS REMOVED AND SEALANT WAS APPLIED AROUND SOME VENTS. NEITHER REPAIR WAS SUCCESSFUL. WE ARE PREPARING TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE 6TH TIME. WE HAVE HAD TO PAY OUT-OF-POCKET FOR ALL REPAIR ATTEMPTS SO FAR. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE EXHAUST ODOR IS ACTUALLY COMING THROUGH THE VEHICLES VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE EXHAUST ODOR OFTEN LEAVES ME FEELING SICK IF I DO NOT CRACK OPEN THE WINDOWS FOR FRESH AIR. I HAVE CALLED MY DEALERSHIP (MILLER FORD, MOUNT HOLLY, NJ) AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED HAVING PREVIOUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BY FORD THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO OUR VEHICLE. THERE IS A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR THAT IN MY CAR. I AM UNABLE TO USE THE AC AND HEAT BECAUSE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS I GET. (MASSIVE HEADACHES, BLURRED VISION, NAUSEA). I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY SAID THEIR PHONE HAD BEEN RINGING OFF THE HOOK BECAUSE THE MEDIA HAD BLOWN EVERYTHING OUT OF PROPORTION. THEY INDICATED THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING WAS CURRENTLY BEING DONE TO FIX IT. I'M NOT WILLING TO SACRIFICE MY GRANDCHILDREN, SO I TRADED CARS AND LOST LOTS OF MONEY IN THE PROCESS. I HAD TO FINANCE ANOTHER CAR FOR 75 MONTHS IN ORDER TO PROTECT MY FAMILY. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM BUT WHILE SEARCHING FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, I AM OVERWHELMED WITH THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION FROM OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THE SMELL, BUT AGAIN ATTRIBUTED TO THE LEAKING COOLANT. IT'S PARTICULARLY WORSE WHEN THE SYSTEM IS IN THE RECIRCULATING MODE. SITTING IDLE AT A LIGHT OR WAITING FOR SOMEONE WITH THE SYSTEM ON IS PROBABLY THE WORST, PARTICULARLY WHEN IN RECIRCULATING MODE.

HE RODE 5 HOURS TO THE BEACH AND 5 HOURS HOME IN MY HUSBANDS 2013 GMC 2500 AND DIDN'T GET SICK ONCE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE WHEEL BEARING REPLACED TODAY (10/11/16). I TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS TO MAKE SURE THEY WEREN'T PLUGGED BECAUSE OF THE ODOR (THE STRONG ODOR STARTED YESTERDAY). THEY CALL ME AND TELL ME THERE IS A TSB *SERVICE BULLETIN" AND CERTAIN 2011-2015 EXPLORER HAVE EXHAUST FUMES LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE. IT ALL STARTED TO COME TOGETHER. I CALLED FORD AND BECAUSE MY 36/36,000 WARRENTY ENDED (I HAVE 45,672 MILES ON IT NOW), THERE IS NO COVERAGE. I EVEN PURCHASED THE EXTENDED FORD PLAN AND THEY SAID IT WON'T COVER IT EITHER. I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NEED TO GO BACK ON MONDAY TO DO A SYSTEM UPDATE BUT I DON'T THINK UPDATING THE SOFTWARE IT'S GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
