Rear view camera either is dark or reverses view (left is right and right is left). The camera either doesn’t work, works correctly or provides a horizontally flipped image so the driver side and passenger side views are reversed (this is the most dangerous view and the view that happens most frequently). I recently noticed that there has been an official recall for the 2015 Explorer but not the 2014. I wanted to bring it to your attention that more years are affected and need attention. The dealer claims not to know the problem and wants hundreds of dollars to “diagnose”.
I'm writing regarding recall: October 13, 2025 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 25V695000 Rearview Camera Image May Not Display A rearview camera that fails to properly display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. I have a 2014 Ford Explorer and the rearview camera failed approximately 1 year ago. I have experienced intermittent image, partial image, and no image at all. Is there some reason the 2014 Ford Explorer is not included in the recall ?
First issue is regarding the rear view camera, it kept going out and coming back on and now it shows the image in mirror view (what is on my left will show up on the right and vice versa on the monitor). I did see some fords were recalled, I was told mine wasn't and I would have to pay for this out of my pocket. Second issue is about my motor mounts, all mounts have been replaced approximately 3-4 times.
The backup camera doesn’t work. When I put it in reverse the camera goes blank or is very distorted where you can’t see

My 2014 Explorer back up camera goes blank with a blacked screen while trying to back up. When in reverse the camera goes blank back on then blank again. This problem has caused several near misses while backing up.
The rear back uo camera. The camera will randomly flip the screen when backing up & lose the lines or the screen goes black and nothing appears. It has not been confirmed byxa dealership yet. There were no warnings. There has been a recall for the 2015 explorer and up. Can the 2014 explorer be added to the recall aswell?
Backup camera not working. It will show a black screen or yellow triangle instead of the back up camera turning on.

The rear backup camera has been glitching for years. The screen will go completely blank or glitch in and out. Sometimes the infotainment center says it cannot detect the rear camera. This puts the safety of pedestrians, drivers, and those in the car at risk when backing up. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by both a dealer and an independent service center. The component has not been inspected because it would cost up to $2,000 just to diagnose the issue. There are no warning lamps or codes for this issue. As stated, sometimes the infotainment center gives a message saying that the rear camera was not detected.

A-PILLAR APPLIQUE TRIM on both sides of windshield have blown off in traffic. Water is getting vehicle.
The windshield trim recall is taking a long time to correct. I had a piece fall off while driving which could have damaged another vehicle and caused a incident.
This recall has been active for over 6 months with no resolution from Ford on the estimated time that the part will be available. The window trim is missing and parts broken which causes a major leak in the vehicle and has now escalated to mildew in the vehicle from continued leakage in the rain. The response continues to be the same from the dealer that they don't know when the part will be available but in the meantime, a part that could very well cause accidents, injuries or even death as well as interior damage seems to not that big of a concern as far as the Ford Motor Company is concerned. Is there anyway to create a little more urgency for those of us who are having to live with this.
Rear camera blank
My 'Rearview Camera system' does not work. When I put my truck in reverse, I get the message 'Please contact your dealer or manufacturer' for help with camera repair. Back in July 2022, my entire 'Steering system' went out and I was forced to borrow from my 401k to pay $2,000 for a new steering system after it went out on the [XXX] during rush hour from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. Exterior A-Pillar Trims were recalled on January 19,2024 due to a safety risk for other road users increasing the risk of a crash if the trim parts detached while driving. Manufacturer recall number is 24S02. NHTSA recall number is 24V031. The local Ford dealer scheduled an appointment on 9/30/2024 for what they said was a fix, however the techs conducted a test and stated the trim parts failed but they were unable to fix on that date as Ford only sends them approximately 2 sets per month and they would let me know when they had mine in to fix. On June 1, 2025 I contacted the local Ford dealer inquiring about the replacement trim parts. The service department stated they do not have any and were still waiting for the manufacturer to provide them. The technicians laughed about the problem and denied they were a safety issue if they detached while driving and would not cause a problem for other drivers. They suggested "ripping" them off if I was concerned.
The rear safety camera fails to appear in the dash. Car says unable to connect or display. Sometimes works, mostly does not. Ford dealer wants to charge $800 to fix. As this is a vehicle safety feature, I believe it is a failure similar to the latest recall by Ford
Noticing a problem with the steering and wheel suspension that is affecting other Ford explorers between 2018 and 2025. Engine oil blow by. Causing oil to leak and ending up under the carriage and on the back of the vehicle. Rear camera problems.
Ford is recalling vehicles going back as far as 2015 for rear camera issues. We have a 2014 Explorer that has also had the camera go bad recently. on/off intermittently like something loose somewhere (like the descriptions of the current recall). Adding this in case there's others and their recall needs to be expanded. Ford wants $200 just to "look" what might be wrong. The date below is just when it started approximately.
This recall for the trim was issued January 2024, stating the parts would be available in the 2nd quarter of 2024. We are almost at the 3rd quarter of 2025 and still no parts have been released from Ford. They are essentially saying, they acknowledge the issue, and will fix it- but maybe never.,

I was driving down the interstate at 70 MPh and heard a very loud pop. I was not sure where the noise came from. I drove a little further when I saw the rubber seal around windshield flapping. I pulled over and the A-PILLAR APPLIQUE TRIM had completely detached and ripped the rubber seal around window. I called the dealership and they stated there was a recall and it was safe to drive. While driving on interstate I hear air coming in around window. Then she stated she was not sure when parts would become available and I needed to call back at the beginning of April.

This issue has progressively worsened over the past three years, starting with minor symptoms and now becoming severe. Despite numerous repairs, inspections, and personal research, the problem persists. In my research, I discovered that 2016-2019 Ford Explorers (FWD 2.3L) and 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC (AWD 2.3L) models are under recall for similar transmission issues. The recall involves replacing the Torque Converter, Main Control Valve Body, and Solenoid Body, along with disassembling and cleaning the transmission as per the service procedure. My vehicle is a 2014 Ford Explorer FWD 2.3L, manufactured at the Chicago Assembly Plant, with a build date just eight months prior to the affected 2016-2019 Explorers. I believe this recall should be extended to include earlier models like mine, as the issue seems consistent across vehicles from the same plant and production timeline. I’ve spoken with multiple owners of similar-year Ford Explorers, all of whom report the same transmission problems. Additionally, Russ Moore Transmission—a reputable transmission shop in Fort Wayne—diagnosed my vehicle with a failed torque converter and recommended a complete transmission rebuild due to the severity and duration of the issue. The repair quote is $4,160, and they strongly advised against driving the vehicle, citing the risk of total transmission failure/potential
I received a recall notice (Safety Recall notice 24S02) / NHTSA Recall 24V031 whereby I a needing to have a exterior A-pillar applique trim clip attachment replaced. I received the notice in February 2024 and for the last year I have been trying to get this corrected and for the last year the Ford dealers have been telling me that they have the part on backlog. The trim that is to be corrected is now falling off from my windshield. How can i get this corrected? Smell coming into cabin. Overwhelming to the point making us nauseous and sick. Taken it to Ford dealership. They can not mimic the issue.
My vehicle has been experiencing the "death wobble". I've done research online and I've seen other people complain about the issue as well as videos. Whenever I drive my vehicle, I hear noises coming from the front end such as scraping and my steering wheel wobbles and it's excessive while on the freeway. I've gotten the wheel bearings replaced, tires rotated, replaced front passenger tire, breaks and rotors replaced. My axel and car were lifted in the air with no damages.
The backup camera does not work. Sometimes a reversed the image which is highly dangerous. This has happened to a number of people I know who have the same car. It says see dealership on the screen.
Back up camera failing to load image. Image is reversed when backing up, so objects coming from the left are showing up on the right side of the screen and vise versa. Backup guiding lines are no longer visible and screen has a fish bowl effect.

Back up camera malfunctions randomly,shuts off while backing up or doesn't function at all.

Fred Beans Ford of Mechanicsburg serviced this vehicle 2 times in the last 3 years, and did not perform the mandatory recall's needed on the vehicle. They also did the same on my other vehicle. I am reporting them for this because they're going to get someone killed some day by not fixing recalls when they have the cars in their shop.

Backup camera works intermittently
While driving on the highway, the trim piece that contours the front of the hood of the vehicle, broke off in two pieces and went flying into the air and nearly caused an accident.
My rearview camera goes in and out sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Have to use my side view to back up . This is definitely dangerous. Don’t know what is wrong with it, it will beep when you get to close but no picture.
A pillar trim flew off right side of windshield on 12/8/2023 and recently seen newly issued recall.
The window trim and weatherstripping has detached from the vehicle while driving highway speed. Pieces were detaching more as I drove. Causing vehicles to maneuver in ways of car not being damaged
The camera doesn’t work and if it does it shows the picture reversed. It has the right side of the vehicle on the left side of the camera. Checked for updates but there aren’t any. It started working correctly just last week, but then it goes back to saying call dealership or reversed.

I was driving down the interstate and the piece on the side where it covers the windshield blows off, the passenger side now tries to. When it happened i rolled the window down and held onto it until we could pull over.
I was going to leave my work parking lot. After I started the car, a warning light came on stating power assist failure and I was in drive and tried to steer to the right ending up in space in front of mine, barely across the parking line with my front wheels. I thought by pressing the "ok" that it would make the car steer and it wouldn't. With my blue tooth, I called my husband stating he'd have to pick me up as I couldn't steer and I asked him to get on the computer to find out what was wrong. As he told me the complaints of other 2014 ford explorers and the recalls for 2011 to 2013, 2015, and 2016, and as he was talking, I turned off the car and turned it back on and it drove. My husband said it happened to my son 2 weeks prior. I drove it straight to the ford dealer, while my husband told me that it could happen while driving. The rack and pinion and the PSCM power steering modules have been the problem from other fords. The ford report for mine says: A customer states multiple warnings came up on dash and power steering became inop. Please advise. 99 Verified concern. Performed self test. U3000. Pinpoint to internal failure of electronic rack and pinion. replaced retest ok 902C 1 E5BZ*3504*AM gear asy-steering, 99 perform 4 wheel alignment 902 C for $2924.90. It scared me that I drove this unknowingly I could have had a bad accident
While driving about 55 MPH, the left side windshield trim flew off the windshield. Thankfully no one was close behind that could have been hit by the trim. No warning, no indication that it was loose.
On the freeway, the Windshield rubber trim came loose from its cover started flapping on the window and top of car and then torn off by wind shear. It flew in the air behind the car and could cause the vehicles behind us to swerve or it could actually hit one of the others cars. Our car was recently inspected. This had no warning.
Ever since I purchased my 2014 Ford Explorer, I noticed a foul smell inside the vehicle when accelerating. It seemed fine when driving normally, but when accelerating into traffic or whenever RPMs are increasing, it’s definitely noticeable. I was driving several months back and heard a strange noise. I was on an interstate so I could not pull over but then suddenly I heard a very loud crack. I thought maybe something in the road had hit my car. Then a driver came alongside me in the other lane and he was yelling and pointing and seemed angry. I felt like it was unsafe to pull over so I waited until the next exit and I got off at the exit. At that time, the driver kept going and did not pull over with me. But as soon as I got out of my car, I saw what had happened. The trim on the side of my windshield had completely come off. I took it to my local Ford dealership and they fixed it the best they could but they said there’s not the parts to fix it. Now it looks like my other side might do it as well. And Ford doesn’t seem to know how to fix it. I feel like the trim piece had hit the car behind me and it could have caused damage to another vehicle. I don’t know because the man didn’t pull over. And now I’m afraid it might happen again on the other side. I’m going to put tape over it tomorrow to help secure it. But I feel like this is something that Ford should be aware of and at least be able to fix.
Bought the vehicle used from a dealership. The windshield wobbles at highways speeds. Noticed today that the trim on the left side of the vehicle is detached partially. Dealership will not do anything to resolve the issue. Serious safety concern.
2014 Ford Explorer Limited: Power Steering Unit beginning to fail. Available for inspection upon request. Just received auto back from dealership (Crystal River Ford) after repair of yet ANOTHER recall for this auto and began hearing noise when turning wheel after only 2 brief drives with no noise heard. Took back to dealership and advised that it would require a new Power Steering Unit, that none available from Ford AND NO ETA and advised that a current customer waited 3 months to receive the unit. No warning lamp or message whatsoever, was prepared to take the vehicle long distance (~500 miles round trip) and could have been an extreme hazard should I not have had it investigated. Safety??? Look at message boards regarding this issue, NOT difficult to find. NOT new issue and NOT infrequent issue. This year auto is a hazard to be driven on the road.
Rear backup camera is faulty on my 2014 Ford Explorer. It works intermittently or not at all. Sometimes the image on my display is flipped, meaning if I should see grass on the right side of my vehicle while backing up, the image is displaying grass on the left side. There is a recall for newer models of Ford Explorers related to the backup camera, but I believe there is an issue with older models as well.

My 16 year old grandson was driving my car home from school when the traction control light came on and POWER STEERING went out completely. Not only did power steering go out and traction control wasn't working the turn signals were also not working properly making this situation even more dangerous. My grandson had a very difficult time getting the vehicle off the road with no power steering. We were very lucky he didn't have an accident. There was no warning lights prior to power steering/traction control going out as he was driving. I've done some research and it appears this has been a problem with Ford Explorers since 2011 (Safety Recall Notice 145061 NHT5A Recall 14V-286) for some reason 2014 was not included in the recall. I was surprised to find there have been many 2014 ford explorer owners that have experienced the same issues and filed complaints. I have contacted Ford customer service and filed a complaint with them; complaint # (42667416). I'm further angered/disappointed by the recall on 2011-2013 Explorers. WHY WAS 2014 EXCLUDED???!!! This problem has obviously not been corrected. This is a DEADLY situation!!!! My explorer is currently in a Ford shop and the problem was reproduced and diagnosed. They have ordered parts to have repairs completed which is costing approximately $2300 and my vehicle has been out of commission for 2 weeks by the time repairs are completed. I am very disappointed with Ford overlooking this issue which may cause major injury or death. Once I receive the vehicle back I will have invoice with description of repairs and parts that were replaced.
I am writing to complain about the windshield pillar trim. I just had my left trim fly off while doing 80mph down the interstate. This already happened to my right side last year. This is a safety issue. It could have possibly hit a windshield of a car behind me and caused an accident. I have seen other complaints about this same issue. Can you please do something? I can't afford to keep buying aftermarket replacement trim for the rest of my life. That's like 60 dollars a pop. Also the aftermarket part cracks and doesn't fit snug like an OEM part. Please help. While driving down the interstate, a trim piece on the driver's side of the windshield flew off.
Windshield trim flew off while we were driving on the highway. It hit the windshield flying backwards and almost hit a driver behind us. It startled us and almost caused an accident while we were going 75MPH with our kids in the vehicle.
At Christmas we noticed that there was something flapping from the side of the windshield & hitting the windshield as well as bilateral front windows. Further inspection revealed what appears to be a rubber seal keeping the body trim flush with the windshield was disintegrating. This could even be holding windshield in place. This problem is reproducible & occurs anywhere over 30mph. The faster you go, the more the trim starts to detach from the vehicle. With the seal disintegrating, the trim body pieces that cover the arm of the door (black) is becoming loose/flimsy. Photos enclosed show you there is about a 1/2 inch gap between the trim & windshield without the seal causing easy movement & potential for air to lift/detach the trim. We are fearful this is going to fall off the vehicle. It appears that this seal was keeping this body piece in place. A huge safety concern arises anytime there is a part of a vehicle that is beginning to fall off at any speed. The seal itself could fall off in pieces as you will see in photos hitting not only other vehicles & causing them to lose control, it could also hit a motorcyclist causing them to crash, it could even go to the extent of hitting a pedestrian & causing major physical harm. The body trim that appears to be affected by this seal were to detach itself while moving it will definitely cause some major issues. Given this is more solid & bigger in size, this could cause significant motor vehicle damage, significant injury to motorcyclist and/or motorcycles, Injury to pedestrians, & even potentially cause a fatality. There are no warning lights or alarms from the vehicle alerting us of an issue. The Ford dealership is unable to see us for over a month to diagnose this issue let alone an oil change. This problem has not been reproduced by an inspection facility or license dealership because of scheduling at this time period there is an appointment set for February 10th however Injury or worse could occur until then.
The water pump started leaking into the engine. Car overheats. Now it has to be replaced or the engine will seize and need to be replaced. The cost to replace this part and the timing belt is $2,685. I have always done all the recommended services and oil changes and I am frustrated that this was not noticed sooner. This seems to be a very common problem with water pumps and many folks had their car seize while driving.
Rear back up camera only works intermittently.
The vehicle began to overheat in traffic and forced me to stop. This is a known problem with Fords from 2011-2016. The issue has been resolved in Canada but in the US customers are being forced to pay for repairs.
Exterior trim or molding, and weather strip on windshield, driver and passenger sides flew off vehicle while highway driving 65 MPH. The weather conditions were sunny skies during day time. Thank God no serious accidents occurred I'm aware of. After some research, I learned this is a common occurrence with Ford Explorer vehicles. I feel this is a safety concern. Hopefully Ford issues a recall or other type of compensation for owners. I contacted DACARS Ford in Lanham, MD for a repair estimates 2 weeks ago. I have not recieved a call back. I will look elsewhere for support.
Air conditioner malfunctioned 2014 and entire dual system climate required replacement. System malfunctioned again and rear lines require replacement and compressor was reported to have malfunctioned. Power steering pump and components failed and June 2014 requiring repair. Sunroof motors failed in 2020 requiring replacement.
1st time steering went out my family and I had driven 4 hours away to veterans park in marrinette County, we enjoyed a walk and went to leave turned car on as normal and put in reverse and had no steering had it flatbedded to a shop near home. Had rack and pinion replaced. Few months later noticed I had a very hard time steering all of a sudden no returnablity once steering wheel turned in either direction, called shop again brought back in checked out the part was defective that was put in rack in pinion replaced again, now here we r again steering going again, this is the 3rd time in the last 3 years the cost is to high to repair again and I can't even drive my son to school or myself and feel safe doing so. Also went into local ford dealshipnfor last recall and was told my hubs were bad but I exceeded the time frame to have them replaced within the recall told me I needed to pay 2500.00 to have replaced, so now I have a 30,000.00 car with a bank loan on it that is unsafe to drive for me and other on the road, have to pay for full coverage insurance and can't get anywhere. Recall on ever year but mine for the steering issue and ford won't help me. I have called them.
I was driving and there was a loud pop then the steering wheel lock up on me. The power steering assist warning light came on all at once. Lucky I turned to a stop sign and only ran off in the grass for a second. If I would have turned right me and my fiancée would probably be dead or in the hospital since the road I did not take is very busy and well none for crashes. I was in the middle of pulling out and had to forces the wheel to turn to keep us safe and able to park.
There is a distinct smell of gas inside my cars cabin. I’ve tested for carbon monoxide and found the level to be higher than any car I’ve tested under similar conditions. My car is no longer drivable because the smell makes me nauseous and sick. It began slowly one day and is now so overwhelming. The dealer says they know about the issue but that it has not been recalled. My mechanic says I have a laundry list of repairs that would be needed to possibly remedy the issue. It’s not guaranteed.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was abnormal noise of metal being dragged. The vehicle was shaking and while making a turn the steering wheel was difficult to turn. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the link shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign number 20V692000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 139,840.

I am writing to notify you of the problems I am experiencing with my 2014 Ford Explorer VIN # [XXX] and to request help to resolve these problems with the vehicle in a timely manner. I purchased the vehicle 8 months ago (March 2021) from Bomnin Chervrolet of Manassas. I began having trouble with the heat temperature on the right passenger side of the vehicle. I took my vehicle to Sheehy Ford Lincoln of Gaithersburg Maryland for recall repairs and my husband explained to service what we have been experiencing with the vehicle. He was told the Carbon monoxide is due to a leak in the manifold and the transfer case was about to go. I have been in contact with my finance company about what has been going on with the vehicle and they instructed me to reach out to the dealership where it was purchased. Which I did and unfortunately, they aren't willing to assist in the major problems with the vehicle. I was told on Monday November 29, 2021 they will be willing to repair heat temperature and that's it. The problems with the truck is the radio touch screen which controls heat, music, seat warmers and so forth isn’t working, temperature on right passenger side, back up camera, carbon monoxide coming thru vents, manifold, and the transfer case needs to be replaced because its about to go; if it hasn't gone already. The truck wont back up without making loud grinding noises and stalling. These problems my family are having substantially impairs the use and valve of my vehicle and creates a serious safety hazard to my family. After explaining to the dealer that I am on a fixed income of just SSI and needed my vehicle for appointments and everything; they isn't willing to repair the major safety. It's very hard to understand why anyone would sell my family a 2014 Ford Explorer knowingly aware of its history from November 16, 2018 from a previous owner of Carbon Monoxide concerns, still this vehicle was sold to my family. My 2014 explorer is having the same steering fault assist recall problem the 2013 has. The power steering stops working and has happened while driving and now it is constantly popping up. Ford won't fix it under the recall.
I have a 2014 Ford Explorer I bought used. On the passenger side the door panel is pulling away from the door and the armrest. After researching I found out this was covered under a recall so I contacted Ford. The lady I online chatted with told me to set up an appointment at my local Ford dealer to have it fixed that it would be covered under the recall 17N04. I contacted the dealer and they said the would order the part. A few weeks went by and I called to see if the part was in. The dealer informed me Ford would not cover the repair because my recall was over the years, but it was still under the mileage of the repair. They took photos and Ford still refuses to do anything the fix the problem. I then took it to a car repair business and they told me there was nothing they could do to fix it, that it was a design flaw on Fords part and it would need a new door skin. Is there anyway you can help me? I understand the years of the warranty are up but I also understand I have not exceeded the mileage on the recall and now I am stuck with an unrepairable door panel. IN JUNE OF 2015 FORD ISSUED A TSB 15-0113 ABOUT A DEFECT WITH THE SECOND ROW INFLATABLE SEAT BELT SYSTEM THAT WOULD EXHIBIT AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. THIS CONDITION RENDERS ALL AIRBAGS INOPERABLE, NOT JUST THE SEAT THAT IS EFFECTED. ON 12/29/2018 I TOOK SAID VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE OF THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH. A $54 PART WAS INSTALLED AT A LABOR COST OF $650 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF YOU NOTE FIGURE 1 OF THE TSB THE WIRE HARNESS WRAPS AROUND A SEAT SUPPORT AND THE FIX SHOWN IN FIGURE 2 OF THE SAME TSB ELIMINATES THAT WRAP THAT WHICH CAUSES THE WIRE TO GET PINCHED AND SEVERED. TSB 16-0001 WAS ISSUED IN JANUARY 2016 SUPERSEDING THE PREVIOUS TSB. PASSENGER SAFETY IS EXTREMELY CRITICAL AND I'M WONDERING WHY YOUR ORGANIZATION DID NOT GET INVOLVED, AS PASSENGER SAFETY IS ONE OF YOUR MAJOR CONCERNS OR FORD WAS NOT REQUIRED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE UP FRONT, QUICKLY AND ELIMINATE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD? MY VEHICLE WAS AT THE FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE ON THE FOLLOWING DATES;APRIL 2015, DECEMBER 2016, AUGUST 2016, FEBRUARY 2017 AND NOT ONE TIME DID ANY SERVICE TECH LOOK UNDER THE REAR SEAT AND REROUTE THE NECESSARY WIRE HARNESS TO ELIMINATE A POTENTIA LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION. ONLY AFTER A COMPLETE FAILURE OF MY AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS ANYTHING DONE. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY VIOLATION BY FORD AND ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS CONFIGURATION SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED AT FORDS EXPENSE. MY FAMILY WAS AT RISK DURING THE TIME THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.
WHILE DRIVING THE INTERSTATE, MY WINDSHIELD TRIM STARTED TO PEEL AWAY, STRIKING THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW AS IT GOT WORSE. I'M JUST HAPPY THAT THE WHOLE THING DIDN'T TEAR AWAY (AS IN OTHERS REPORTED ON THE INTERNET) HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING AND CAUSING DAMAGE. OVER A YEAR AGO, DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE VISIT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED US THAT FORD WAS RECOMMENDING A SOLUTION INVOLVING PLACING "PATCHES" OM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. WE AGREED FOR THE PROCEDURE TO BE DONE AND AFTER THAT DID NOT EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM AGAIN UNTIL THE LAST TWO MONTHS. IF BEFORE ACCELERATING, THE VENT AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF UNTIL ACCELERATION IS COMPLETED AND APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES HAVE BEEN TRAVELED, THE ODOR IS NOT DETECTED. WE HAVE DESCRIBED THE REOCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE CHECKED THE PATCHES AND REPORTED THAT THEY ARE STILL INTACT. THEY CANNOT OFFER ANY OTHER SOLUTION AND WE FEAR THAT THE FUMES MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO OUR HEALTH, AS WE CANNOT ALWAYS PREDICT THE NEED TO ACCELERATE.

THEY HAVE EXAMINED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE A CAUSE OR SOURCE OF THE SMELL. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED USED 1.5 YEARS AGO FROM DEALER (NOT CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED). THE PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST ODOR WAS NOT NOTED UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO, BUT DEVELOPED SUDDENLY. DURING A FOLLOW UP CALL ON THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN PROVIDED GUIDANCE FOR A REPAIR. IN A FOLLOW UP CALL ON DECEMBER 8TH, WE WERE SCHEDULED FOR SERVICES ON DECEMBER 15TH. THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. CURRENT CARBON MONOXIDE CONTINUES TO ENTER THE CABIN WITH LEVELS RECORDED AS HIGH AS 45 PPM WHEN MAX AC IS IN USE.

SO WHILE SHE WAS IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM WE HAD HER BLOOD AND OXYGEN LEVELS CHECKED FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY WIFE IS STILL BREASTFEEDING OUR 10 MONTHS OLD DAUGHTER. I HAVE OWNED A 2014 FORD EXPLORER FOR A YEAR NOW. WHEN I PURCHASED IT, IT HAD 40,000 MILES ON IT SO, OUT OF THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY PERIOD. NOW, EVERY TIME I GET ON THE INTERSTATE OR TRY TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST THAT ENTERS THE CABIN OF THE SUV WHICH RESULTS IN ME GETTING A HEADACHE AND MY SON COMPLAINING OF HIS NOSE BURNING. I SCHEDULED AND TOOK THE CAR IN THE MULLINAX FORD HERE IN MOBILE, AL WHERE THEY CHARGED ME 99.00 TO RUN TEST ON THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF CARBON MONOXIDE WAS ENTERING THE CABIN AND THE TEST CAME BACK POSITIVE. NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $553.00, WHICH THEY CALL A DISCOUNT, TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY CREATED A CASE AND SENT IT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. THIS WAS ONLY TO GET A DECISION FROM THE MANAGER THAT I STILL HAD TO PAY $553.00. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR IT. THIS VEHICLE IS POISONING MY FAMILY (3 KIDS) AND THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ONLY REPAIRING POLICE CARS AS OF NOW.

WHILE LEARNING OF THE LATEST NEWS OF POSSIBLE DANGEROUS FUMES BEING ALLEGED IN THE PASSENGER CABIN, I WANTED TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT IN MY PERSONAL VEHICLE. I HAVE BECOME SERIOUSLY MORE CONCERNED AS I AM NOW TRAVELING WITH AN INFANT IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME, AND RECOGNIZING THAT I WAS SUBJECT TO THESE CONDITIONS THROUGHOUT A FULL PREGNANCY. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE PRIMARY DRIVER SINCE OWNING IT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY MODIFICATIONS DONE TO THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD ALL SERVICE WORK COMPLETED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. ALTHOUGH I DON'T TRAVEL OFTEN BY CAR, THERE HAVE BEEN TRIPS THAT I HAVE TAKEN THAT WERE APPROXIMATELY 300 MILES IN LENGTH THAT WOULD REQUIRE A STOP FOR REST AND / OR SLEEP. THIS IS NOT A USUAL CHARACTERISTIC OF MY DRIVING STYLE. THERE IS NO NOTICEABLE ODOR IN THE VEHICLE'S PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THERE ARE NO NOTICEABLE DRIVING CONDITIONS THAT MAKE THIS ISSUE BETTER OR WORSE.
THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ESPECIALLY ON FULL ACCELERATION. SEEMS TO BE UNDER ANY CONDITION OF THE CABIN AS FAR AS WINDOW OPEN PARTIALLY, CLOSED WINDOWS WITH VENT ON, AC ON WITH OR WITHOUT THE RECIRCULATION BEING USED. MOSTLY ANNOYING AND IT DOES SEEM TO DISSIPATE AFTER A FEW MINUTES, WILL OCCUR FROM STARTING AT FULL STOP OR USE SUCH AS FULL THROTTLE FOR PASSING AT ANY SPEED. DO NOT SEEM TO NOTICE A SMELL WHEN RUNNING IN TOWN OR ON FREEWAY. RARELY SIT WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND HAVE NOT NOTICED THE EXHAUST SMELL THUS FAR.

I GET VERY NAUSEOUS AND HEAD ACHES WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE. SOME TIMES BLURRED VISION AND A FEELING OF SLOWED REACTION. I HAVE HAD AN INSTANCE WHERE I BLACKED OUT WHILE DRIVING FOR A FEW SECONDS, TO BE AWAKENED WHEN MY VEHICLE RAN ACROSS GRAVELS BEFORE ENTERING A YARD. I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE INTERSTATE WHERE I WAS DOING AROUND 70 MPH AND ABOUT 1/2 MILE AFTER THE TOP OF THE OFF RAMP I BLACKED OUT. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, I CAME TO IN TIME TO PULL THE WHEEL TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT BUT WAS PERFECTLY FINE RIGHT BEFORE I BLACKED OUT. I WASN'T TIRED BEFORE THIS. WHEN I DRIVE OUR 2017 FORD F-350 I DO NOT HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS. THEY SEEM TO GO AWAY. OR IF I RIDE IN MY EXPLORER WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN I SEEM TO FEEL BETTER. FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED SOME "SEALING" AND THAT THE EXHAUST WAS BEING CIRCULATED INTO THE VEHICLE. ONCE SEALED THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE ISSUES HAD BEEN FIXED. JULY 2017 WE STARTED SMELLING THE SAME HORRIBLE SMELLS THAT STARTED GIVING US HORRIBLE HEADACHES AND NAUSEA. EVERY TIME WE ENTERED THE VEHICLE WE FELT SICK. WE ARE A FAMILY OF 6 WITH 4 CHILDREN AND WILL NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE WE GET SICK EVERYTIME. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. SEALING THE VEHICLE OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE AND NOW WE ARE BACK TO SQUARE ONE.
IN DEC 2016, MY CAR BEGAN EXPERIENCING EXHAUST FUMES IN THE INTERIOR. IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE I EXPERIENCED HEADACHES DRIVING IT. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AT SANTA MARGARITA FORD IN RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA. INITIALLY THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE, SAID IT MIGHT BE EXHAUST FUMES COMING THRU THE WINDOWS. A SECOND VISIT PROVED THERE WAS AN ODOR WHILE DRIVING AND THEY ATTEMPTED A FIX BUT THE ODOR PERSISTED. THE SERVICE MANAGER CLAIMED IT WAS NOT A COVERED DEFECT AND WAS A RESULT OF BODY DAMAGE OR DEFECTS. MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF ANY KIND. I ASKED THEM TO REVIEW AGAIN AND SPEAK TO SOMEONE AT FORD. THEY PROCEEDED TO "FIX" BODY SEAL ISSUES WHICH WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNING THAT MY VEHICLE'S SEAL OR WELDS WOULD FAIL. THE ODORS STILL PERSISTED ALTHOUGH NOT AS STRONG. A 4TH VISIT CONCLUDED WITH REPLACING EXHAUST COMPONENTS. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, I ALSO BOUGHT THE EXTENDED MAINTENANCE AND WHOLE CAR WARRANTY. I WAS CHARGED AT LEAST 1 DEDUCTIBLE AND WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 2 WEEKS WHILE THE DEALER CONTINUED TO WORK THRU WARRANTY COVERAGE ISSUES AND REPAIRING THE CAR. I NOW READ THAT THIS IS A VERY PREVALENT ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. AT A MINIMUM HOW DO I RECOVER MY DEDUCTIBLE PAYMENTS FOR REPAIRS?? AND HOW AM I ASSURED THIS REPAIR WAS DONE CORRECTLY NOW THAT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN VERIFIED IN THOUSANDS OF OTHER SIMILAR CARS?

HOWEVER A FEW MONTHS LATER THESE REPORTS OF CARBON MONOXIDE OR EXHAUST LEAKING INTO THE VEHICULAR WAS REPORTED. WE BROUGHT OUR 2014 FORD EXPLORER BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ARE TOLD THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE BUT NO RECALL. IN FEB 2015, I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THROAT & LYMPH NODE CANCER IN THE NECK. TREATMENT CONSISTING OF SURGERY, RADIATION AND CHEMO AFFECTED MY SENSE OF SMELL (& TASTE). I FOCUSED ON IMPROVING MY HEALTH AND DIDN'T WORRY ABOUT THE SMELL.....CHOOSING TO BELIEVE FORD WOULD NOTIFY ME OF A RECALL. SINCE THIS HASN'T HAPPENED, IM FILING A COMPLAINT. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE SMELL CONTINUES. MY OTHER CONCERN IS THAT I'VE NEVER BEEN A TOBACCO USER, AND MY CANCER IS HPG IN ORIGIN (MEANING IT CAME FROM ENVIRONMENTAL TOXINS OR SOME NON TOBACCO SOURCE). WITH THE FREQUENCY OF THE PROBLEM ON THIS TRIP, I REALIZED I'VE SMELLED IT BEFORE BUT JUST ASSUMED I WAS DRIVING PAST A SEWAGE PROBLEM OR TREATMENT FACILITY. I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR THAT WOULD CAUSE A SMELL LIKE THAT. UPON GOOGLING WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THE PROBLEM, I FOUND A LOT OF INFO ON THE ISSUE, INCLUDING A FORD SERVICE BULLETIN (ATTACHED), LAWSUITS AND YOUR ORGANIZATION'S INVESTIGATION OF THE ISSUE. BASED ON WHAT I READ, I FELT I SHOULD LET YOU KNOW I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THAT EITHER AND AM NOW CONCERNED WHETHER THERE IS ACTUALLY A FIX. GIVEN THE KNOWLEDGE FORD HAS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I WOULD EXPECT FORD TO FIX THIS AT THEIR COST . . . THE FORD EXPLORER 2014 HAS A DEFECT IN WHICH THE "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT " SIGNAL/MESSAGE WOULD RANDOMLY APPEAR AND PRACTICALLY IMMOBILIZE THE CAR. ONCE THE SIGNAL WAS PRESENT, THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN TO A 5-10 MPH MODE. IT WOULD EVENTUALLY RESET ITSELF AFTER 24 HOURS OR SO. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF THIS WERE TO TAKE PLACE IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION OR A HIGHWAY, AN ACCIDENT WOULD CERTAINLY ENSUE. I EXPERIENCED THIS MALFUNCTION TWICE; ONCE IN FEBRUARY OF 2017 AND THEN AGAIN ON JULY 3, 2017. IN BOTH INSTANCES, I WAS IN MOTION. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT TOO FAR FROM MY RESIDENCE AND THAT I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS SO THAT OTHERS IN TRAFFIC WOULD BE ABLE TO AVOID HITTING ME BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN DECLINE IN SPEED.

NEITHER REPAIR CREATED ANY IMPROVEMENT IN REGARD TO THE SMELL. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE FRONT SUSPENSION/STEERING AREA. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE(S). THE VEHICLE HAS A LOUD POPPING SOUND THAT EMANATES FROM THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE AREA WHEN MAKING A LOW SPEED TURN. THE FIRST REPAIR WAS REPORTEDLY A LOOSE "BOOT COVER". THE SECOND REPAIR CONSISTED OF THE INSTALLATION OF A "SHIM" TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. NEITHER FIX TOOK CARE OF THE ISSUE LONG TERM.

I FIRST COMPLAINED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE OIL CHANGE. SOME REPAIRS WERE MADE IN MAY OF 2016.. THIS REPAIR DID NOTHING TO SOLVE PROBLEM. SO IN SEPTEMBER 2016 THE DEALERSHIP RE-SEALED THE REAR OF VEHICLE. IT WAS FINE FOR TWO WEEKS. FOR A FEW WEEKS AFTER THAT THERE WAS A SLIGHT EXHAUST SMELL BUT AS TIME HAS PASSED THERE ARE TIMES WHEN SMELL IS STRONGER. THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED THE SMELL WAS AFTER ACCELERATING ON TO THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 3500-4000 RPM. IT SEEMS TO GET WORSE EVERY DAY. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE STARTS I SMELL IT. THE ONLY TIME IT GOES AWAY IS WHEN I'M CRUISING WITH THE WINDOWS CRACKED AND THE HEAT TURNED DOWN. AS SOON AS I COME TO A STOP OR SLOW DOWN FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS I IMMEDIATELY GET THE SMELL IN THE CAB. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PARTS FOR THE TSB AN WE CARRIED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND LEFT IT FOR TWO DAYS FOR THEM TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THE ODOR PROBLEMS STILL EXISTS. I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER WITH ASTHMA AND OTHER BREATHING PROBLEMS. I HAVE CARRIED HER TO SCHOOL AND PICKED HER UP EVERYDAY IN THIS VEHICLE FOR THREE YEARS NOW. OFFICER MCDOWELL WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE NUMBER 2 LANE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH. ON DUTY NEWPORT BEACH POLICE OFFICER DAN MESRI WAS DRIVING A SEPARATE POLICE VEHICLE, AND WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND IN THE NUMBER ONE LANE SLIGHTLY BEHIND THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. ON DUTY NEWPORT BEACH POLICE OFFICER NATHAN FARRIS WAS DRIVING A THIRD POLICE VEHICLE AND WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE NUMBER ONE LANE SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. BOTH OFFICER MESRI AND OFFICER FARRIS, AMONG OTHERS, WITNESSED THE SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENT SEQUENCE. OFFICER MCDOWELL SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY LOST CONSCIOUSNESS WITHIN THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, AND AS EVIDENCED BY THE DASH-CAM VIDEO IN OFFICER MESRI'S POLICE VEHICLE, THE SUBJECT VEHICLE BEGAN DRIFTING TO THE LEFT. IT CROSSED THE NUMBER ONE LANE AND THEN CROSSED THE CENTER MEDIAN. THE SUBJECT VEHICLE CONTINUED DRIFTING LEFT ACROSS THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF JAMBOREE RD., COMING WITHIN INCHES OF A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A NORTHBOUND VEHICLE. THE SUBJECT VEHICLE CROSSED ALL NORTHBOUND LANES, WENT OVER THE CURB, AND STRUCK A TREE HEAD-ON. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, THE SUBJECT VEHICLE NEVER SLOWED DOWN DURING THE ACCIDENT SEQUENCE. A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING OUR 2014 EXPLORER, WE NOTICED AN EXHAUST/SULFUR ORDER IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FOLLOWING A MEDIUM ACCELERATION ENTERING AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. WE REPORTED THE ODOR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TURNED THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE ORDER SO NOTHING WAS DONE. A FEW MONTHS LATER, UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES, THE ODOR RETURNED. ONCE AGAIN, WE TURNED THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER PERFORMED A REPAIR BASED ON A TSB. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE ODOR RETURNED AND ONCE AGAIN TURNED THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER PERFORMED A CONTINUATION OF THE SAME TSB. A FEW MONTHS LATER, WHILE PULLING A BOAT, THE ODOR RETURNED. ONCE AGAIN, WE TURNED THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER OWNER AND THE SERVICE TECH DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND WERE UNABLE TO DETECT THE SMELL. THE VERY NEXT DAY WHILE PULLING THE BOAT, THE ODOR RETURNED. THE DEALER NOW SAYS THEY DON'T WANT TO PERFORM THE LAST PART OF THE TSB BECAUSE IF THEY SEND FORD A PART THAT'S NOT DEFECTIVE, FORD WILL CHARGE THEM BACK FOR THE PART....MEANWHILE I'M STUCK DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT MAY BE PUTTING SULFUR AND/OR CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER WANTS ME TO BRING MY BOAT AND VEHICLE IN SO THEY CAN TEST IT WHICH ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE IF THEY WRECK THE VEHICLE WITH THE BOAT, MY INSURANCE HAS TO COVER IT THROUGH THE PERMISSIVE USE CLAUSE AND MY RATES WILL GO UP.

WHEN ACCELERATING ONTO HIGHWAY, THERE IS A STRONG EXHAUST-LIKE ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANY REASON WHY THE ODOR WOULD BE COMING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DISTURBING AS I ALSO HAVE MY 4 YEAR OLD INHALING THESE FUMES WHICH I BELIEVE IS CARBON MONOXIDE. THIS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED INTO BY FMC.

I AM NOTICING A SMELL COMING OUT OF AIR VENTS. OCCURRING SINCE AS FAR BACK AS I REMEMBER BUT DON'T RECALL EXACT DATE WHEN I STARTED QUESTIONING THE SMELL.. THE SMELL IS A BURNING SMELL - NOT ELECTRICAL BUT ALMOST LIKE HAIR/HAIR DRYER WHEN IT GETS HOT. I NOTICE WHEN I ACCELERATE TO GET ON EXPRESSWAYS AND/OR IF I'M GOING UP A HILL (BASICALLY WHEN I GO INTO HIGH GEAR). MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE CAR AT A TIME RECENTLY AND SO I ASKED HIM IF HE COULD SMELL IT AND HE IMMEDIATELY SAID IT WAS EXHAUST COMING IN THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. I'M NOT SURE IF I CAN SMELL IT MORE WHEN THE AIR IS ON AND THE WINDOWS CLOSED BUT DUE TO ALLERGIES AND RESPIRATORY ISSUES I MORE TIMES THAN NOT DRIVE WITH WINDOWS CLOSED AND THEREFORE SMELL IT QUITE OFTEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. I AM NOT SURE IF DIRECTLY RELATED OR NOT BUT LAST TWO YEARS I DROVE 12 HOURS TO FLORIDA AND BY THE TIME I GO THERE I HAD HEADACHE AND BREATHING PROBLEMS AND CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE WITH THAT MORE OFTEN THAN I EVER HAVE BEFORE. I'M WORRIED THAT THIS EXHAUST INTO MY CAR IS MAGNIFYING MY HEALTH ISSUES. REGARDLESS, IT IS A DANGER TO HAVE THIS EXHAUST COMING IN THROUGH THE CAR. I AM TAKING TO FORD THIS COMING FRIDAY. I STOPPED IN TO TALK TO THEM AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ISSUES LIKE THIS. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE MERELY AS "FORD EXPLORE EXHAUST ISSUES" AND WAS SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED BY THE FACT THAT IT APPEARS VERY COMMON AND THAT A CIVIL SUIT WAS FILED IN FLORIDA. RIGHT NOW THEY ARE SAYING WARRANTIES SHOULD COVER THE FIX BUT I'VE READ WHERE THE FIX ISN'T WORKING EITHER. I WILL SEE WHAT THEY SAY ONCE THEY HAVE MY CAR BUT ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO REPORT IT SO THAT IT CAN BE RECTIFIED BY EVERYONE HAVING THIS VEHICLE DURING THE YEARS NOTED IN THE CLAIMS! IN JUST COMING TO THIS SITE ALONE I SEE THAT SEVERAL OTHERS ARE HAVING SAME ISSUES. I DON'T PAY THIS MUCH FOR A VEHICLE FOR IT TO MAKE ME SICK!

WHEN ACCELERATING HARD, EXHAUST FUMES BLOW INTO THE CABIN FROM THE AC. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WITHIN A MONTH AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BECAUSE THE CAR/ENGINE WAS NEW. I'D NEVER OWNED A NEW CAR BEFORE SO I TOOK THEIR WORD FOR IT. HOWEVER, AFTER THE ISSUE KEPT REOCCURING FOR 8+ MONTHS, I BROUGHT THE EXPLORER TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM I WANTED IT CHECKED OUT. I WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG AND I COULD TRY USING A FUEL ADDITIVE TO HELP CLEAN THE ENGINE. ANY TIME I ACCELERATE HARD, I PRETTY MUCH JUST HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW OR I'LL START GETTING LIGHT HEADED. IT HAS REACHED THE POINT THAT I'M NOW LOOKING TO GET A NEW VEHICLE. I'M AMAZED THAT DESPITE MULTIPLE LAWSUITS AGAINST FORD, THESE EXPLORERS HAVE YET TO BE RECALLED.

WE FINALLY REALIZED THAT IT WAS OUR VEHICLE AND NOT OUTSIDE AIR. TOOK CAR ON VACATION AND IT WAS SO BAD IT MADE US ALL SICK. HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER TWO TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. TODAY, WE TOOK IT BACK AS IT IS SO BAD I AM SICK. THEY ADMITTED THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT NO FIX. SAID THERE WILL BE A FIX IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE CARBON MONOXIDE IS SO STRONG AT RANDOM TIMES THAT WE ARE GETTING AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. IT SEEMS TO BE THE WORSE ON SUDDEN ACCELERATION, SUCH AS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE A 2014 FORD EXPLORER SPORT AND WHENEVER THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES IT SEVERELY PULLS TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WITH TRACK STRAIGHT UNTIL YOU STEP ON THE GAS AND IT PULLS SEVERELY TO THE LEFT REQUIRING ME TO COMPENSATE BY WHILE DRIVING. I ADVISED THE DEALERSHIP ON 10-8-14, 10-18-14, 12-4-14, ON A MARCH OIL CHANGE WITH FORD, 1-7-15 AND 5-18-15.THE DEALERSHIPS INITIALLY DENIED THE CAR HAD ANY ISSUES THAT WERE ABNORMAL BUT EVENTUALLY THEY ADMITTED IT DOES PULL TO THE LEFT BUT IT WAS NORMAL ACCORDING TO THE FORD ENGINEERS AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO CORRECT IT SINCE IT WAS A NATURAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. I DID NOT AGREE SINCE I HAVE DRIVEN OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL THAT DID NOT PERFORM THE SAME AS MY VEHICLE DOES. I ALSO SPOKE TO VARIOUS FORD SERVICE TECHNICIANS THAT INDICATED THEY HAD NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS ISSUE AND THEY ASSUMED THAT IT COULDN'T BE TORQUE STEER SINCE THE INTELLIGENT 4 WHEEL DRIVE SHOULD CORRECT ANY WHEELS THAT WERE NOT SPINNING AT THE SAME SPEED AS THE OTHERS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL IN ONE DIRECTION OR THE OTHER. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY COULD ONLY GO BY WHAT THE CORPORATE ENGINEERS ADVISED THEM AND THAT WAS THAT THE ISSUE WAS NORMAL DESPITE THE VEHICLE BEING RATED FOR A MAXIMUM TOWING CAPACITY OF 5,000 POUNDS. I ALSO HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN AN EXPLANATION ON WHY THE LEFT TIRES ON MY VEHICLE ARE WORN OUT ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIRE EXACTLY IN THE DIRECTION THE CAR IS PULLING TO. THE SEVER PULLING TO THE LEFT IS NOT A MINOR THINK AND THE CAR WILL MOVE BY THE FEET TO THE LEFT VEERING OUT OF THE LANE UNLESS I COMPENSATE WHILE STEERING, YET IT DRIVES ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT IF I LET OFF THE GAS AND I CAN'T IMAGINE TOWING ANYTHING BEHIND THIS VEHICLE WITH THESE ABNORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.

RECENTLY, MY WIFE AND I NOTICED AN EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN OF OUR 2014 FORD EXPLORER (8K MILES) WHEN WE ACCELERATED ONTO HIGHWAYS. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO FORD AND THEY TOLD US THERE WAS A BULLETIN OUT ON THE EXHAUST ISSUE. THE EXPLORER LOANER THEY GAVE US HAD THE PROBLEM WORSE THAN OURS SO I ASKED FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO DRIVE. WHEN WE GOT THE EXPLORER BACK, I STILL NOTICED THE PROBLEM AND BROUGHT IT BACK TO FORD. THEY INSISTED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM SO I WENT TO MY LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND BORROWED A CARBON MONOXIDE METER AND DROVE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY FOR ONE MILE AFTER TESTING VARIOUS LOCATIONS INSIDE THE CABIN (FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHILE IDLING). OVER ONE MILE THE CARBON MONOXIDE LEVEL IN THE CABIN INCREASED FROM 0 TO 6 PARTS PER MILLION (PPM). AFTER DISCOVERING THE DANGEROUS SITUATION I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO FORD WHO HAS NOW HAD THE VEHICLE FOR RIGHT AT 3 WEEKS AND WILL NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALLS OR UPDATE ME ON THE ISSUE. I AM POSTING THIS SO THAT ANYONE WHO READS THIS CAN INVESTIGATE THIS POSSIBLE SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUE FOR THEMSELVES. IF YOU ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE AND SMELL EXHAUST, TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED. IF YOU SMELL EXHAUST IT IS STILL GETTING INTO THE CABIN AND IS VERY DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH. I AM VERY CONCERNED FORD HAS NOT RECALLED ANY VEHICLES (2011-2014) TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE ARE NOT DRIVING AROUND WITH DANGEROUS EXHAUST FUMES IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS AROUND TOWN AND AT GAS STATIONS AND THEY HAVE NOTICED THIS AS WELL. I USED A CALIBRATED CO METER AND HAVE PICTURES OF THE READINGS.

WHEN DRIVING MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER AT ANY SPEED AND ON ANY TERRAIN, THE EXHAUST FUMES ENTER INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE ODOR IS EXTREME, CAUSES HEADACHES, NAUSEA, AND TENDS TO BURN MY EYES AS WELL AS MY GRANDDAUGHTER, WHO IS WITH ME MOST OF THE TIME. BECAUSE THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF THIS PROBLEM, AND BECAUSE FORD HAS NOT RECOGNIZED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, MY DEALER WAS NOT GOING TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. FINALLY THEY HAVE AGREED TO SPRAY THE UNDER PART OF THE EXHAUST WITH A RUBBERIZED SEALANT THAT WAS USED ON THE 2013 MODELS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IF THIS DOES NOT WORK, WHICH I HAVE READ WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL ON THE 2013 , I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE EXHAUST ORDER IS HORRID AND I FEAR THE HEALTH IMPLICATIONS THAT MAY ARISE. *JS
