The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that on several occasions, while starting the vehicle and while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the long block assembly had failed, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that upon placing the gear shifter in park(P) and turning off the vehicle, the message "Transmission Not in Park" was flashing on the instrument panel. When accelerating and braking, motor rocks forward and backwards. Rpms jump erratically when this happens and when sitting stationary at a light or stop sign. Which causes the entire vehicle to vibrate. Oddly enough, fuel injector cleaner seems to help with the vehicle shaking somewhat.

Confirmation of Problem: The problem has been confirmed by the dealer service department during inspection. The water pump leak was observed and diagnosed by a certified Ford service technician. 4. Inspections: The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer. I have also documented prior repairs to the vehicle, including a timing chain replacement two years ago. The water pump issue has not yet been inspected by Ford corporate. 5. Warning Lamps/Symptoms: Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps on the dashboard. The factory installed headlight screw punctured the coolant line of my 2015 Ford Explorer causing my transmission to stop working properly. This resulted in a $725 tow bill and $1,067.56 in repairs. The certified mechanic verified that the screw was an original part and it punctured the line, likely after some time rubbing against it. The transmission did not appear to be damaged however my safety was at risk trying to pull over to when the vehicle would no longer shift gears. I have a video of the leak that lines up with the screw placement but was not able to upload it...I am happy to email it to you.

When vehicle is on and either in park or at a stop, RPMs will idle at about 800-1000 RPM then randomly shoot up between 2000-2500 RPMs then drop to below 500 RPMs before returning to idle. It’ll do this randomly.

Took vehicle in to see local mechanic due to small drops of antifreeze on ground. Mechanic concluded water pump would need to be replaced. Since water pump is built into the engine for this Ford model, the engine would need to be dismantled to fix. Repairs are going to cost around 3500-4000 to fix just a water pump.....(poor design by Ford) 2015 Ford Explorer Sport has 110,000 miles.

Had the car for about a year. After the last service I brought in car was fine for a few months, but just recently Had a coolant leak start, very slow but not good. Took it to the service department and they said The water pump is bad. I’ve heard several case of this being a known issue but am learning that it has not been issued as a recall. Now expected to drop $5K on replacing the water pump on a known issue.

Sudden Unintended Acceleration of the vehicle when slowing to park vehicle. This has happened on 2 occasions- both scenarios the same: slowing and turning left into a parking space, foot on the brake, almost to a complete stop and the vehicle suddenly accelerates out of control. the 1st time into a tree, the 2nd time into a parked/unoccupied vehicle. The brake was applied w/o response, the vehicle would not stop. I am certain my foot was not on the gas. Fortunate no one was injured.

Last year the water pump needed to be replaced at 99,500 miles. It cost upwards of $2,000 to be replaced. Fast forward now, a year later the check engine light is on, the car is not accelerating properly and it is back in the shop. The shop called and said it is not as simple as fixing the sensors. They have to look further and thinks it may be the timing chain which would be another $2,000. When it was in the shop a year ago fixing the water pump they said the timing chain at that time looked good. I am so frustrated that the water pump is not a part of a recall since our shop said they are seeing this all the time with Explorers with about 100,000 miles.

My 2015 ford explorer water pump has failed sending coolant all over. The water pump in an internal component of the engine. I am lucky that I caught the water pump failure when I did and it didn’t completely catastrophically fail. There are numerous reports that the water pumps catastrophically fail and send coolant and metal particles into the motor causing it to also catastrophically fail. If my engine failed while driving on the highway I could have been seriously injured or killed or worse I could have seriously hurt or killed somebody else. I brought my car to ford 7/21/23 where they did general diagnostic tests everything was negative and nothing was found and I was sent on my way. On 7/29/23 I noticed I had a puddle in my driveway and there was definitely a leak I brought my car back to ford where they spent an entire day diagnosing. I was quoted $2500 and my car will take a week to fix. Ford has not offered to pay for any of the repairs even though these poorly manufactured water pumps continue to go bad on thousands of vehicles. There are multiple class action lawsuits against ford for this reason!

I have a 2015 Ford Explorer. I have had it inspected by a mechanic at the dealership where I purchased said vehicle. I also have taken it to Ford dealership in my town. My car runs perfectly fine then it doesn’t. I have been stranded numerous times and I have replaced the battery in the smart key as they said that would be the problem. I have had the computer reset to my car. When it happened last my camera to help me back up stopped and I was almost in a very bad wreck with my children and grandchildren in my car. It just died!!! I am now sitting in a parking lot at 93 degrees and it again won’t start and know one knows why. I have done everything I can and have been told. I don’t hot rod in my vehicle. Someone for the love of god please help me. I don’t have the money to keep doing this not to buy another vehicle.

3/23 I noticed my coolant reservoir was empty. The vehicle was involved in a minor accident in 12/22 and so I thought coolant slowly leaked out due to the accident. The vehicle was repaired at a collision center so I was concerned they didn't repair or totally missed the leak. I filled it up and took the Explorer for an oil change and that is when the mechanic informed me that I had a small coolant leak. I contacted the collision center and my insurance and both were stating that was from wear and tear. They also proceeded to tell me that is a big issue with the Explorers and certain other vehicles. They mentioned a lawsuit was filed in MA because of this issue. The leak start to get worse, causing me to constantly refill the reservoir with coolant. Always had to have coolant in the vehicle because you just never know. I take the EXPLORER to Ford for a diagnostic and they confirmed it was the internal water pump. This seems to be an issue and recalled because of a defective part or the way the vehicle was built. The leak can happen at any time and mine had 114,000 miles. My other 2010 Ford F150 has 180,000 miles and I have never had this issue. Needless to say, I had to for over $2,300 for the dealership to repair.

While driving the temp started to fluctuate, causing the car the shut down in traffic. I had no clue what was happening. The only warning I got from the vehicle was a check engine light. This should not be possible. I understand the design is meant to protect the engine, but what about the driver. This was horrible and I've seen hundreds of others with this same issue. This needs to be recalled. In addition, it will cost me 4000 to fix this...while the pump itself only costs 200. The labor is the other 3800. This is a horrible thing to do to drivers.

When driving the vehicle, I can smell gas fumes which caused nausea. I didn’t know it was worse in the back of the cabin where my children sit until I sat back there for a 3 hour trip. The smell was stronger there which led to headache, nausea and fatigue. It doesn’t seem to come from the vent, it seems from the entire body of the vehicle. This puts my children’s health at risk. And all of our lives because if we travel far enough breathing this in, it can lead to exhaustion which can cause a crash and put others’ safety at risk. I’m surprised to see there is no recall, yet, it’s been reported that there have been 1.5 million complaints. We are having the issue fixed next Wednesday, but we will be without a car (ford is not providing a loan vehicle) and the bill is extremely expensive. This is clearly something wrong with the way the vehicle was made and is not fair as consumers that we not only have to breathe this in, but pay for the repair that has clearly been an issue for a majority of police vehicles out of 1.5 million complaints. Please help us.

Without any warning, the engine and power system failed while on the highway. There was no system warning lights preceding the event, and the vehicle had be well maintained. We were lucky to have been able to get off the road by safely coasting. Once towed to the mechanics, we were told that a rod had failed and entire would need to be replaced.

Upon excellerated take off the exhaust fumes fill the cabin. There has been a prior recall for such issues. This has happened multiple times over the entire time that I have owned it. It is getting increasingly worse and I worry for myself, my family and others. My local Ford dealership dismissed me every time I brought it up.

Timing belt broke and caused vehicle to stop running, this was after I took it to a mechanic who did a diagnostic and no issues showed up. Now, because of the timing belt breaking, the engine is irreparable and the entire engine will need to be replaced. It only has 116K miles. Another minor complaint is the front driver's side side windshield panel has come unglued. Luckily, the vehicle was stationary when I noticed it being loose. However, it could pose a safety risk. I have noticed other similar vehicles missing the same piece, so it seems to be a consistent problem with Ford Explorers.

Water pump damaged the engine and water pump replacement cost is high and I cannot afford that kind of service because a stupid designed engine. The part is really cheap compared with the cost of the labor and hours to replace. Suggested from the mechanic replace the engine and the cost is high . I do not have a car anymore and they don’t want to do it.

In 2015, when I leased a Ford Explorer XLT, I was never made aware or otherwise notified that a host of Ford models, including the 2015 Ford Explorer XLT had a long known design flaw in which the water pump, encased in the engine block, had a history of prematurely breaking and causing engine coolant to enter the engine and mix with the oil, and also into the oil pan, causing total engine failure, with no advance warning to and at the peril of the vehicle owner or operator, when the vehicle may come to a complete standstill or stop in traffic or in any operation placing the operator at risk of injury or in jeopardy of causing an accident or being subject to becoming an accident victim, plus creating the need to replace a new engine or a rebuilt engine into the vehicle. catastrophic damage in 2011 to 2020 models, with the replacement costs having to be borne by the owner of said vehicle because no recall had been undertaken, despite of their being a host of victimized owners. This incident happened to me and the 2015 Ford Explorer XLT vehicle I was driving. It occurred while I was in traffic and the exception caused total engine failure with no advance warning, no instrument panel warning and the entire engine had to be replaced at my personal cost of over $7,000. I attempted to negotiate with Ford Motor Company to no avail, and I had to expend the funds to acquire and install a rebuilt engine, at my own expense, to be able to continue to use the vehicle for my livelihood. Numerous correspondence with the dealership of origin, Liccardi Ford of Watchung, NJ, and the Ford Motor Company were fruitless. With all of the incidents and all the victims of this design flaw, a recall should have, in my opinion, resulted, but it did not. To my knowledge, which I have not been able to confirm, the design was corrected in newer models, but no assistance was afforded to the owners of the affected vehicles. I have sold the vehicle and it is not available for inspection.

Water pump leakage I noted that my Ford was leaking fluid and took it in to be serviced. Upon review it was determined that the water pump needed to be replaced as well as the timing belt. Ford Explorer models from 2011 to 2016 had the most water pump issues. Consumers have continuously reported complaints with a few of all the models having leakage issues. I am not alone in this and it looks like several are indicating a class action lawsuit should occur as Ford knows this is an issue and has not completed a recall. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/all-about-the-ford-explorer-water-pump-recalls The loss of engine coolant through a leak in the water pump can damage the engine. Without the engine coolant, the motor will overheat and lock up, causing the consumer to purchase a new engine. Ford Motor Company has repaired the issues when the consumer brings the vehicle in for service. No recalls have happened, so the customer has to pay for the repairs. Ford engines from this year have the water pump built inside the engine. When the pump fails, the coolant mixes with the oil shutting the engine down. A class-action lawsuit was issued, but there were no recalls. A recall needs to occur and Ford needs to fix for all impacted models and reimburse those who were impacted by this dangerous flaw.

Vehicle stopped suddenly as I was driving on the highway. When I was able to resume driving the vehicle began to drag as if there was no power. The check engine light came on. I was eventually able to reach a auto supplier who checked the engine light that reported that the blower fan motor was not working. This was a very dangerous situation as the posted speed limit is 55mph and my vehicle suddenly stopped on the highway.

At approximately 101,000 miles noticed a drip of coolant on garage floor . Inspected car , noticed empty coolant expansion tank and leak from water pump weep hole. Took to dealer and confirmed leaking water pump . Vehicle is not equipped with coolant monitor , most people would not of noticed this leak . This has lead to catastrophic engine failure on other Explorers leading to loss of power while driving.

Sitting in my car one day and the engine coolant light came on, so I checked and noticed that it was low but I just had an oil change the prior week that included fluid checks. I purchased coolant and put it in no problem and the following week I'm picking up school supplies and notice fluid leaking from my car, checked coolant and it is all gone on the ground. Luckily I was somewhere to purchase more coolant in order to get it home. Local mechanic says that water pump is gone and it's gonna run about $2k-3k to fix.

Water pump went out and had to have my vehicle towed and I was out of my vehicle for a month and half... Faulty water pump and Ford knows this that is why they have a law suit against them. 2015 Ford Explorer XLT was parked at gas station and when returning I got a warning light “Engine coolant over temperature”. Coolant leaking in a puddle on front passenger side at bottom of motor indicating the same water pump issue everyone else has mentioned. Was able to make it to an Auto Zone down the road and the reservoir was nearly empty. Added more coolant and is still leaking out. With this flawed design causing people to pay thousands out of pocket, Ford should recall or reimburse vehicle owners.

The water pump that is incased inside my engine has started leaking at only 75,000 miles with very few of those miles in the last 2 years as I've hardly been driving because of the pandemic. I was not aware of this issue and there was no warning or alert until I took my car in for a safety recall for my seat belts and to have another defective issue of the heater fan being stuck on defrost fixed that I should not have to be paying $5,000 out of pocket for. I have ready many similar complaints and this is a HUGE safety issue and they need to have a recall on these since the engine can seize up with little to no warning. I was lucky that they just happened to check for me before I had to replace my entire engine or worse!

EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE INTERIOR-This seems to only occur on road trips where fast and hard acceleration is needed for highway driving which is not something we normally due. Since we have owned the vehicle, on every occasion of strong hard acceleration there is a strong exhaust / spent fuel smell being brought into the cars interior. We have reached out to the local Ford Dealer several times but without satisfactory results. The exhaust fumes continue to exist in the cars interior upon hard and fast acceleration. My wife just returned from a interstate road trip with signs of exhaust fume poisoning with an extreme headache and very lethargic.What is it going to take for Ford to fix this problem or for a recall to be issued. Will it take fatalities or long term respiratory issues before anything is done to solace this issue. Besides the huge concern about the car owners safety and health; what about the potential diminished resale value of the vehicle due to Ford’s negligence to truly fix this exhaust issue.

I HAD TO CUT IN FRONT OF CARS MOVING MUCH FASTER THAN I WAS, CAUSING THEM TO HAVE TO BRAKE HEAVILY. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN FOR A WHILE AT ABOUT IDLE SPEED ONCE I REACHED THE SHOULDER, BUT WOULD THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. ALL LIGHTS ON VEHICLE, INCLUDING EMERGENCY FLASHERS, WORKED FINE. WITHIN ABOUT A MINUTE OF GETTING TO THE SHOULDER, THE ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND THEN SHUT DOWN ENTIRELY AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I LIFTED THE HOOD AND SAW NOTHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, I ATTEMPTEDD TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND RAN WITH NO PROBLEMS AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITH MY TRIP.

THE CO ALARM IS A HONEYWELL BWC2R-M. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO HILLTOP FORD AND AFTER REMAINING WITH THEM FOR A MONTH, A FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER TESTED THE VEHICLE WITH SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE COMPLAINT. NO REPAIR WAS MADE. ALL PRIOR RECALL WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THIS VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HALDEMAN FORD (640 US-130, EAST WINDSOR, NJ 08520, (833) 668-9583) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE EXPLORER HAS SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME (JULY 2019) I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE OFF INTO A MEDIAN. THE SECOND TIME (AUG 5, 2019) I WAS COMING OFF AN ON RAMP ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH. ONCE AGAIN THE CAR SUDDENLY POWERED OFF. I WAS LUCKY TO BE IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO CRUISE OFF INTO A WIDE GRASSY AREA. THE TRAFFIC I WAS MERGING INTO WAS AT 70 MPH. IN BOTH INSTANCES THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE CAR LOSES POWER AND YOU HAVE PRACTICALLY NO CONTROL OVER THE STEERING OR BRAKES. IF I HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO CRUISE OFF AND/OR HAD BEEN IN THE CENTER LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED BY VEHICLES AT HIGH SPEEDS. IN BOTH INSTANCES, ONCE I WAS OFF THE ROAD I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW SECONDS, AND RESTARTED. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP NORMALLY AND THEN SEEMED TO WORK OK. IT'S LIKE THE ELECTRICAL OR SOFTWARE SYSTEM REQUIRES A 'RESET'. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS IT OCCURS WITH NO WARNING AND THE DRIVER CANNOT CONTROL THE CAR AND MUST COME TO A STOP TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART.

A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO THE LEFT REAR TOE LINK BROKE WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO LOSE CONTROL AND GO INTO A SIDEWAYS SLIDE, BREAKING THE WHEEL HUB IN THE PROCESS. SMOOTH ROAD GOING ABOUT 50 MPH IN GOOD CONDITIONS. WE GOT THE CAR FIXED AND HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. AFTER THE FORD DEALER IN MCHENRY IL HAD IT FOR OVER A WEEK, WE GOT THE CAR BACK, DROVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS AND SUDDENLY WE HAD A CRACKED EXHAUST FLEX PIPE. WE HAD TO PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED MORE TO GET THAT REPAIRED. AGAIN, DRIVEN ON SMOOTH ROADS IN THE SUMMER, NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS SO SUDDENLY. GOT THE CAR BACK AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL MORE DAYS IN THE SHOP.. DROVE IT FOR A COUPLE MORE DAYS AND THE LEFT REAR TOE LINK BROKE.. AGAIN... DEALER THIS TIME INSTALLED THE "RECALL KIT" ON BOTH SIDES. LUCKILY, THIS TIME IT WAS AT SLOW SPEEDS COMING INTO A PARKING LOT . HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. AGAIN.. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS NOW, AND THE LEFT TOE LINK HAS COME LOOSE.. AGAIN.. THE CAR WILL BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER TOMORROW BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT WAS DRIVEN 3 TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS AROUND TOWN SINCE WE GOT IT BACK. MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF FEAR OF IT BREAKING AGAIN. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE IF THE RECALL PART DOESN'T WORK. WHEN THIS PART FAILS, THIS CAR HAS A SEVERE LOSS OF CONTROL AND CAN VERY EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. FORD NEEDS TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.

WHILE DRIVING RECENTLY MY CAR WOULD 'SPUTTER' WHILE AT A LIGHT ETC. WELL TODAY IT COMPLETELY DIES WHILE DRIVING (ABOUT 20MPG). IT EVENTUALLY RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO MY MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY DIED WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVE OF THE MECHANIC WHO WILL TAKE A LOOK ON MONDAY. ALSO, HAD PROBLEMS WITH STEERING UNIT THAT FORD SAID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SAID THAT WOULD COST US ABOUT $1100 FOR A NEW MODULE. AT THAT TIME THE CAR HAD 40,000 MILES ON IT. CURRENTLY HAS 72,000. MY HUSBAND WAS GOING TO BY A F150 NOW SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING GOING WITH TOYOTA. HE'S HEARTBROKEN AS WE BOTH THOUGHT THE EXPLORER WOULD BE A RELIABLE CAR.

THE SIDE PANEL POPPED OUT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE FORD DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO WAS AWARE OF IT. THE SECOND ISSUE WE HAD AT 66,000 MILES WAS AN ERROR CALLED 'TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT'. BOTH TIMES THIS ERROR OCCURRED, WE WERE MOVING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT FIXED ITSELF. THE SECOND TIME, WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT OR KILLED. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. PLEASE GET FORD TO A DRESS THESE SAFETY ISSUES.

AFTER JUST 63,000 MILES BOTH TURBOS ON MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER SPORT FAILED. ONE WAS CONFIRMED AS LEAKING OIL WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE'S TIMING COVER WAS LEAKING, ALSO AT RISK FOR ENGINE FIRE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IMMACULATELY MAINTAINED WITH ALL SCHEDULED SERVICE AND TIMELY SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES.

LOSS OF POWER: WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH 3.5L V-6 ENGINE ON THE HIGHWAY (10/04/18), THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER AND LOSE SPEED. PUSHING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR HAD NO AFFECT AND THE CAR RAPIDLY DECELERATED. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH WITH HEAVY VIBRATION. THIS WAS A TERRIFYING AND NEARLY FATAL EXPERIENCE AS FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC STARTED PASSING ME ON BOTH SIDES AS I TRIED TO MOVE OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND LIMPED OFF THE NEAREST EXIT. ONCE OFF THE EXIT I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND SAT FOR 20 MINUTES WHILE I RE-GAINED MY COMPOSURE AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. WHEN HE ARRIVED HE STARTED THE EXPLORER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS CLEARED. MY HUSBAND DRIVE THE CAR HOME USING ONLY BACK ROADS WHILE I FOLLOWED IN HIS CAR. WE CALLED OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. WE STARTED RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ON FORD'S V6 ENGINES WHICH ARE USED ON MULTIPLE SUV'S, CROSSOVERS AND SEDANS. THE RESEARCH I'VE SEEN SHOWS THIS ISSUE HAS AFFECTED MORE THAN 10,000 OWNERS. HOWEVER, IT'S NOT CLEAR IF THE THROTTLE BODY IS FAULTY DUE TO A MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT. IT'S ALSO NOT CLEAR IF REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY IS A PERMANENT FIX. I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND SINCE THIS HAPPENED WE'VE ONLY USED IT FOR SHORTER TRIPS AROUND TOWN. THE FORD DEALER CHECKED THE CAR TODAY (10/08/18) BUT SINCE THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS CLEARED THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I PLEADED WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO NO AVAIL. WE'VE BEEN A FORD FAMILY FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS BUT THIS FAULT AND EVEN WORSE THE FORD SERVICE ADVISOR'S RESPONSE IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE AND THEIR FAMILY ARE KILLED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND FORCE FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND I HEARD A LOUD CLUNK AND MY ENGINE LOST ACCELERATION. I COULD NOT INCREASE MY SPEED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND THE CAR WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND WHEN I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR BARELY MOVED. I WAS ALMOST REAR END BY A TRUCK BUT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. 2015 FORD EXPLORER SPORT EXHAUST IN THE CABIN I BEGAN SMELLING RAW EXHAUST WHEN I WOULD FIRST START MY CAR, THE AIR BLOWING THOUGH MY VENTS. I WOULD ROLL MY WINDOWS DOWN BECAUSE IT MADE ME IMMEDIATELY NAUSEOUS, AS I DROVE THE SMELL WOULD GO AWAY AND ROLL MY WINDOWS BACK UP. THE SMELL ONLY WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MINUTES AS THE CABIN RESATURATED WITH EXHAUST SMELL. I STARTED TROUBLESHOOTING AND FOUND WHEN I TURNED ON RECIRCULATION WHILE DRIVING THE SMELL SUBSIDED. THIS ONLY WORKED WHILE DRIVING AND USING LESS THAN HALF THROTTLE. I WOULD SMELL A ROTTEN EGG SMELL WHEN I WOULD USE PART TO FULL THROTTLE ANYWHERE I WAS TRAVELING. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED THE EXHAUST COMPLAINT REPAIR. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR THE LAST FEW DAYS FROM GETTING IT BACK THERE HAS BEEN NO DIFFERENCE. AS THE WEATHER HEATS UP I AM USING AIR CONDITIONING MORE AND HAVE BEEN STARTING TO GET HEADACHES, NAUSEOUS AND LOSE OF ENERGY. MY COWORKER RODE WITH ME TODAY AND COMPLAINED WITHIN THE FIRST MINUTE OF DRIVING THAT EXHAUST SMELL WAS PRESENT IN THE CAR AND WAS GETTING A HEADACHE. I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS AND HAVE NOT USED THE CLIMATE CONTROL. CABIN IS FILLING WITH EXTREMELY INTENSE SMELL OF CARBON MONOXIDE. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AS YOU CAN NOT STAY IN IT FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES. I AM ASSUMING A TURBO OR WASTE GATE HOSE CAME OFF ON ITS OWN. ONCE THE HOSE POPPED OFF THE SMELL WAS UNDENIABLY SINGED MOTOR OIL. AFTER 30 YEARS OF DOING OIL CHANGES I CAN ASSURE YOU IT IS THE SMELL OF BURNING MOTOR OIL. I HAVE SEEN MANY SUCH ODOR COMPLAINTS ON THE 3.5 LITRE ECO BOOST TURBO. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM AFFECTING MANY IF NOT ALL TURBO ECO BOOST ENGINES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS DANGEROUS NOXIOUS SINGED OIL ODOR. DURING CERTAIN TIMES, DEPENDING ON HOW LONG MY TRIP WAS, I ALSO SMELLED WHAT SEEMED TO BE STRONG FUMES, EVEN WHEN THERE WERE NO VEHICLES NEARBY OR IN FRONT OF ME. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THERE WERE OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS HAVING ISSUES. TO MY SHOCK, I SAW THAT A LOT OF OWNERS WERE STATING THAT THEY WERE NOTICING THE FUMES WHEN THE CAR WAS DRIVEN HARD, WHICH IS THE KIND OF DRIVING I HAD BEEN DOING WHEN I NOTICED THE FUMES, AND NORMALLY WOULD NOT HAVE. I HAVE GOTTEN TO WHERE I HAVE TO FEATHER THE PEDAL DURING DRIVING TO MINIMIZE THE ODOR OF FUMES. I ALSO HAVE A PREGNANT WIFE WHO I WON'T ALLOW IN THE VEHICLE ANYMORE AND SURELY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLACE MY NEWBORN CHILD IN THIS EXPLORER TO BE EXPOSED TO FUMES OF THIS AMOUNT. AT WHICH POINT THE CODES WENT AWAY. 4. DRIVER-SIDE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE JUST BROKE OFF WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR - $149 5. WHEN VEHICLE IS PUT IN PARK I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE VEHICLE NOT IN PARK. I NEED A SHIFT MODULE, $395 PLUS TAX AND FEES 6. MULTIPLE OTHER SMALL PROBLEMS. VENTS NOT STAYING OPEN, PLASTIC COVERS COMING OFF EVERYWHERE, SPEAKER REPLACED TWICE MY EXPLORER HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT AND FORD DOES NOT GIVE LOANER CARS. I TOOK IT IN FOR A SECOND REPAIR FROM THE RELEASED TBS BUT IT STILL EMITS THE CM IN THE CABIN WHEN THE VEHICLE EXCEEDS 3K RMPS OR THE AC IS ON FULL BLAST.

FORD EXPLORER POLICE WAS STATIONARY ON US HIGHWAY 59 NORTH. THE POLICE OFFICER IN THE DRIVER SEAT LOST CONSCIOUSNESS FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AND 30 MINUTES. ANOTHER OFFICER CHECKED ON THE UNCONSCIOUS OFFICER AND FOUND HIM TO BE NOT ALERT AND UN RESPONSIVE, THEREFORE HE SUMMONED EMS AND REMOVED THE UNCONSCIOUS OFFICER FROM THE EXPLORER. EMS WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE OFFICER BUT HE WAS DISORIENTED, UNAWARE OF WHERE HE WAS AND WHO HE WAS. OFFICER WAS PLACED ON OXYGEN AND TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL EMERGENCY ROOM WHERE HIS ARTERIAL BLOOD WAS TAKEN. ARTERIAL BLOOD WAS FOUND TO HAVE APPROXIMATELY 20% CONCENTRATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE. ARTERIAL BLOOD WAS TAKEN APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AFTER BEING REMOVED FROM THE EXPLORER AND 40 MINUTES OF BEING ADMINISTERED OXYGEN BY EMS.

AFTER FORD DENYING THAT CARBON MONOXIDE IS NOT ENTERING THE CIVILIAN FORD EXPLORERS, WE PURCHASED A PYLE (PCMM05) LOW LEVEL CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. IT REGISTERS CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS STARTING AT O PPM. WE PUT THE DETECTOR IN OUR VEHICLE, STARTED IT AND DID NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE AND THE DETECTOR IMMEDIATELY JUMPED TO 5. AFTER THAT WE DROVE THE VEHICLE IN CITY TRAFFIC AND THE DETECTOR THEN JUMPED BACK AND FORTH FROM 10 TO 14 PPM. AFTER THAT WE GOT ON THE INTERSTATE AND DROVE 70 TO 75 AND THE DETECTOR RANGED FROM 23PPM TO 64PPM IN ONLY A 30 MINUTE PERIOD. WE SPENT A TOTAL OF ONLY 2 HOURS IN OUR SUV DOING THIS TESTING. AFTER THAT WE RETURNED HOME AND WERE SICK WITH HEADACHES, NAUSEA, VOMITTING, CHEST PAINS, AND JUST FEELING SICK FOR 6 DAYS. WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF ALL OF THESE ISSUES THAT WE HAVE PROVEN WITH OUR OWN CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. SO IF FORD THINKS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR VEHICLE, PLEASE BUY IT BACK AND PUT YOUR FAMILY IN. IN JUNE 2016, I TOOK MY FORD EXPLORE TO GURLEY LEEP KIA FORD IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA DUE TO A ROTTEN EGG SMELL IN THE CABIN AREA. THEY REPLACE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND SEALED THE REAR TELLING ME THAT EXHAUST WAS LEAKING INTO THE CABINET AREA AND THAT WAS THE EXCLAMATION FOR THE ROTTEN EGG SMELL. AT THAT POINT I HAD ONLY HAD MY VEHICLE LESS THAN SEVEN MONTHS. ON AUGUST 2, 2017 WE TOOK MY FORD EXPLORER BACK TO GURLEY LEEP KIA FORD AND SOUTH BEND INDIANA WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS AS WELL AS THE MAIN DRIVER MYSELF EXPERIENCING NAUSEA HEADACHES TROUBLE CONCENTRATION VOMITING AND BLURRED VISION. I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING COLLEGE AND WORKING FULL-TIME WITH HIS REQUIRED INCREASED DRIVING IN MYSELF BEING IN THE VEHICLE WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN THE INTERMITTENT HEADACHES AND NAUSEA AS WELL AS THE FLAREUP OF SYMPTOMS AFTER BEING IN MY VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 1/2 HOURS. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS DONE AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT AGAIN EXHAUST WAS LEAKING INTO THE CABIN AREA THE REPAIRS WERE THE SAME REPLACE THE EXHAUST AND RESEAL THE BACK, HOWEVER THIS TIME THEY STATED THAT FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THESE REPAIRS AS IT IS NO LONGER UNDER FORDS WARRANTY AND WE WERE ADVISED THE COST OF REPAIRS WOULD BE NEAR $3000. THERE ARE TWO TSB'S OUT ON THIS ISSUE I FEEL THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN COVERED BY FORD AT THIS POINT THEY SHOULD REPLACE MY VEHICLE IT IS BEEN PROVEN TWICE AND DOCUMENTED THAT CARBON MONOXIDE/EXHAUST IS LEAKING INTO THE CABIN AREA. I DO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CALLED ROUTE 66 THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS AS WELL. WE ALSO WERE ADVISED THAT FORD EXPLORERS ARE KNOWN FOR HAVING A FRONT STRUT MOUNT ISSUE BOTH OF MINE WE WERE ADVISED WERE BAD AND IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $500 TO HAVE A PLACE TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE ARE NO TSB'S BUT THE DEALER SEEMED PRETTY AWARE OF THIS AND NOT SURPRISED.

AFTER HARD ACCELERATION HAS ENDED AND YOU MAINTAIN STEADY SPEED THE FUMES NO LONGER SEEM TO ENTER THE CABIN. FUMES CAN BE VERY STRONG AND ROLLING DOWN WINDOWS IS THE ONLY WAY TO CLEAR. IT SEEMS TO MOSTLY HAPPEN WITH REAR AIR CONDITIONING IN TURNED ON, BUT NOT SURE. I PUT TODAYS DATE BELOW, BUT THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. I HAVE READ ONLINE AND SPOKEN TO DEALERS IN THE PAST AND NO FIX SEEMS TO BE AVAILABLE SO WE HAVE DONE ARE BEST TO AVOID WITH SLOW ACCELERATION, BUT WE CAN NOT BE CERTAIN THAT NO FUMES ARE ENTERING CAR. BOTH MY WIFE AND I SEEM TO GET MORE HEAD ACHES THAN IN THE PAST AND THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE.

AFTER COMPLETING A LEFT TURN ON A WARM SUNNY DRY CLEAR DAY ON A FLAT ROAD SURFACE I HAD ACCELERATED NORMALLY UP TO ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR (SPEED LIMIT 45) AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN COMPLETELY LOST POWER. FOR A SECOND I THOUGHT THE CAR HAD STALLED SO I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO RESTART BUT IT WAS IN FACT STILL RUNNING. IT WOULD NOT REV AT ALL. I PUT THE TRUCK BACK INTO GEAR AND TURNED ON MY FOUR-WAY FLASHERS. PRESSING THE GAS DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND I WAS ABLE TO GO ABOUT 5 MILES AN HOUR FOR ABOUT 500 FEET AT WHICH POINT I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND STARTED SWEARING AT MY 2015 EXPLORER WITH UNDER 23K MILES WHICH COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF IT HAD LOST POWER 30 SECONDS SOONER WHILE I WAS TURNING LEFT. THIS IS VERY CLEARLY A HEALTH AND SAFETY DEFECT AND THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP. OBVIOUSLY I CANNOT ALLOW MY WIFE AND CHILD TO DRIVE IN THIS VEHICLE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN.

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED IT. THEY TESTED IT AND CONFIRMED MY COMPLAINT. THEY CONTACTED THE ENGINEERS AT FORD TO SEE HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS GOING TO BE A GUINEA PIG. THEY REPLACED A SEAL AND DID SOMETHING THAT REQUIRED THEM TO REMOVE THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE SERVICE. THEY ALSO PROVIDED ME WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE. WHEN I GOT MY VEHICLE BACK, I COULD STILL SMELL THE ODOR. AGAIN, I NOTICED IT WHEN I ACCELERATED QUICKLY. I WAS CONCERNED, SO I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP. MY CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A WEEK THIS TIME. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT BACK YET. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY ORDERED A NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY IF IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE PREVIOUS ONE. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DIFFERENT. AGAIN, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIRS. I DON'T THINK THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS EITHER THOUGH. I THINK FORD SHOULD COVER ALL REPAIRS FOR THIS EXHAUST PROBLEM. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE EXPLORER THEY PUT ME IN WHILE MINE WAS IN THE SHOP HAD THE SAME EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN. I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY PROVIDED ME A FLEX TO DRIVE. HOW CAN FORD EXPECT THEIR SALES TEAM TO SELL THESE VEHICLES KNOWING THAT THERE COULD BE POISONOUS GASSES GOING INTO THEIR CABIN?

WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ACCELERATING THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STALLED AND I HAD TO PULL OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR SAFETY. I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD AND ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR WITHOUT ISSUE TILL 1 WEEK LATER WHEN I WAS DOWNTOWN DRIVING HOME AT 1:00AM AND I HAD TO PUSH MY CAR ONE BLOCK IN ORDER TO GET TO A SAFE PLAY AND GET A TOW. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 1 MONTH WITH FORD SAYING ITS A NUMBER OF THINGS IT ISN'T. IT IS TILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ECOBOOST ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IN ITS OWN COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EVEN WORSE IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH IS WHERE I WAS HEADED) THEY INITIALLY SAID IT WAS THE POWER TRAIN MODULE AND WE WAITED ON THE PART FOR 1 MONTH AND IT DIDN'T FIX ANYTHING. NOW THEY ARE STATING ITS THE TUBING FOR THE TURBO ENGINE (ECOBOOST) AND WE CONTINUE TO WAIT ON THE PART AND THE REPAIR. THIS EXPLORER HAS 34,000 AND IS A RED FORD EXPLORER ECOBOOST.

DEALER THEN UPDATED COMPUTER SOFTWARE - NO FIX. DEALER THEN REPLACED ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM - NO FIX. SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED HE WAS OUT OF OPTIONS AND I SHOULD CALL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 800-392-3673. FINALLY TALKED TO SAMANTHA WHO EVENTUALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING FORD COULD DO BECAUSE THE NHTSA DID NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE.

WHEN I DRIVE MY EXPLORER AND THE ENGINE REVS UP ABOVE 2800 RPM WHILE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY, A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR COMES IN THE CAB OF MY VEHICLE. THE SMELL IS BAD ENOUGH THAT ALL MY FAMILY HAS BECOME VERY DIZZY TO THE POINT OF ALMOST PASSING OUT AND WE HAVE HAD HEADACHES IMMEDIATELY AFTER. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I WORRY THAT THE EXHAUST ODOR CAN HARM HER AND THE REST OF OUR FAMILY. BEFORE FILING THIS COMPLAINT I DID RESEARCH AND I FOUND THAT A POLICE OFFICER IN CALIFORNIA SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES DUE TO A CRASH THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE SAME EXHAUST SMELL ON HIS EXPLORER WHICH MADE HIM FAINT. ADDITIONALLY, THE AUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS NOW INSTALLED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS IN THEIR POLICE VEHICLES DUE TO A POLICE OFFICER EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AFTER HIS VEHICLE HAD EXHAUST ENTER THE CABIN OF HIS EXPLORER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BECAUSE LIVES ARE AT RISK AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THIS ISSUE THAT HAS HAPPENED IN MY PERSONAL EXPLORER IS NOT RANDOM. IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT THE ENGINE EXCEEDS 2800 RPM. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER I HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEATER ON OR NOT. COUPLE WEEKS WENT BY AND SMELLED THE SAME ODOR AGAIN, TOOK IT BACK TO FORD DEALER ON 10-31-16, THEY SAY COULD FIND ANYTHING. CRAZY BECAUSE WHEN I LET AND ACCELERATED ON IT YOU COULD SMELL IT. WHEN YOU TAKE OFF FROM A STOP SIGN GETTING UP TO SPEED, PULLING OUT ONTO FREEWAY OR PASSING TRAFFIC YOU CAN SMELL IT. MY HUSBAND GOT A GAS MONITOR THAT THEY USE FOR MANHOLES AND I DROVE WITH IT FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE CO2 MONITOR WENT OFF AND WE HAVE A VIDEO. WE CALLED FORD DEALER AND SENT VIDEO AND THEY SAY WE NEED TO CALL FORD DIRECT. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND FORD DOES NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE MOST RECENT VISIT IN DECEMBER 2016 THEY REPLACED SOME BODY SEALS ON THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE WHICH HAS HELPED SOME, BUT WE STILL HAVE FUMES GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE AND WE STILL GET THE HEADACHES. IT IS TO THE POINT THAT MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. WE ARE ALSO NOW AWARE THERE HAS BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS VERY ISSUE SINCE 2012 AND FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM ON THE EXPLORER. SO THEY HAVE BEEN SELLING THESE WITH A KNOWN DEFECT THAT IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. ALSO, OUR DEALER (TEAM FORD) DID NOT ADDRESS IT UNTIL WE REALLY PUSHED THE ISSUE ON THE MOST RECENT VISIT THIS PAST DECEMBER AFTER 2 YEARS OF DEALING WITH IT, BUT ITS STILL NOT SOLVED EVEN AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 10 DAYS. 2015 EXPLORER SPORT 3.5L V6 ECOBOOST, CAR SHUDDERS WHILE TRYING TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE BARELY TOUCH THE GAS. ENGINE MISFIRES, HESITATES WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY. FORD NOR DEALER WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SAYING ITS "NORMAL". PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT STILL NO RESOLUTION. HAS BEEN ON GOING FOR ABOUT A YEAR. AT ONE POINT THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME TO DRIVE 20 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE THE RPMS' WHERE MAXED OUT. THANKFULLY I WAS CLOSE TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. SAID "PIPE HOSE CLAMP CAME LOSE". SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS ECOBOOST ENGINE. THERE HAVE BEEN LAWSUITES OVER IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, HAD SEVERAL TECHS, SUPERVISORS DRIVE IT AND NOTHING.

AFTER A HARD ACCELERATION, ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHEN ACCELERATING ON A FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, WE SMELLED A BURNT HAIR ODOR IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF OUR 2015 FORD EXPLORER. AFTER SMELLING THIS, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND THE SMELL WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH CARBON MONXIDE. 9-28-15 DEALERSHIP SEALED REAR UNDERBODY. 5-2-16 DEALERSHIP INSTALLED NEW DOWNTURNED MUFFLER ASSEMBLY. AFTER THIS FIX THE SMELL WENT FROM A FEW SECONDS TO A MINUTE PLUS. CAUSED WATERING EYES, HEADACHE AND COUGHING. 7-26-2016 DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MUFFLER SYSTEM THAT HAD "BAD WELDS", AND REPROGRAMMED ELECTRONIC MODULES. SEPT. 3, 2016 LEFT ON A TRIP, AND THE SMELL CAME BACK WHILE PAASSSING ON THE FREEWAY. ALSO ON A TRIP, THE BURNT HAIR SMELL CAME INTO THE VEHICLE THROUGH SECOND ROW, PASSENGERS, LOWERED WINDOW. THE SMELL APPEARED AGAIN WHILE GOING UP A HILL ON FREEWAY, THIS TIME THROUGH THE DRIVERS LOWERED WINDOW. WATERING EYE, HEADACHES AND COUGHING ACCOMPANIED THE ODOR. 10-3-2016 DEALERSHIP RESEALED ALL OF THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND IMPROVED TAILGATE GASKET. DISTRICT ENGINEER DID AN ONSITE INSPECTION. 11-30-2016 PICKED THE REPAIRED VEHICLE UP. 12-4-2016 EXHAUST FUMES AGAIN WHILE ACCELERATING UP FREEWAY ON RAMP. 12-9-2016 FORD DENIED A BUY BACK CLAIM. THE ODOR NEVER HAPPENS AROUND TOWN. I NEED TO GET RID OF THIS 2015 FORD EXPLORER FOR ONE WE CAN TAKE ON THE HIGHWAY.

I PURCHASED THE 2015 FORD EXPLORER IN LATE MARCH 2015. ALTHOUGH THE SMELL WAS THERE FROM THE BEGINNING IT WAS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE IT. NO ENGINE ACCELERATION THE TRUCK FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN ENTERING HIGHWAY CA 92 WEST BOUND. THE TRUCK MAXIMUM SPEED WAS 20-25 MPH WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FULLY EXTENDED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FLASHING YELLOW AND YOU COULD SMELL FUEL. THE TRUCK WAS SHAKING AND SHUTTERING.THE TRUCK WOULDN'T NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 25 MPH ONTO TO THE HIGHWAY. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE ECO BOOST SYSTEM.

OUR EXPLORER LIMITED UNIT HAS LESS THAN 21,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE ACCELERATING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, CLIMBING A HILL / MOUNTAIN OR SIMILAR SITUATION EXHAUST FUMES ENTER THE CABIN. THE A/C UNIT IS ON AND IN THE RECIRCULATION MODE WITH THE REAR A/C UNIT OPERATING. THE NOXIOUS FUMES SMELL LIKE ROTTEN EGGS / SULFURIC ACID. THE ONLY WAY TO CLEAR THE DANGEROUS EXHAUST GASES IS TO OPEN WINDOWS ALLOWING FOR A CHANGE IN THE CABIN'S ATMOSPHERE. THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE THAT CAN BE REPLICATED. WORKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP WE PURCHASED FROM AS WELL AS FORD CORPORATE TO RESOLVE THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. MANY UNITS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE. NO PROVEN REPAIR / FIX TO DATE. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FORD'S ENGINEERING TEAM TO ISOLATE THE REASON THIS OCCURS AND PROVIDE A PROVEN REPAIR / RECALL? UPDATE TO NHTSA COMPLAINT #10914850 VEHICLE STILL IN SERVICE SINCE 9/26/16. TOTAL DAYS AT DEALER FOR SERVICE DUE TO EXHAUST FUMES / CHEMICAL SMELL IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT: 26 AS OF 10/16/16. HAVE BEEN TOLD FORD'S ENGINEERING REP (DURING FORD'S "FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT" UNDER LEMON LAW) ALSO SMELLED FUMES IN CABIN UNDER WOT AND WHEN ENGINE UNDER LOAD. WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD NOT BE CARBON MONOXIDE IN CABIN MAKING ME DIZZY AND SICK FEELING BECAUSE "CATALYTIC CONVERTER CHANGES CARBON MONOXIDE TO CARBON DIOXIDE, WHICH IS WHY DEALER USES CO2 METER NOT CO METER". WAS INFORMED THAT REGIONAL ENGINEER INSTRUCTED DEALER TO REPEAT TSB 14-0130 EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE THEN TELLING ME THAT THE SMELL IS FROM "MILDEW ON THE A/C EVAPORATOR CORE", WHICH CONTRADICTS THEIR PERFORMING THE TSB TO SEAL THE VEHICLE FROM EXHAUST FUMES A SECOND TIME (PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY WITHOUT EFFECT IN 10/2015). HAVE BEEN TOLD MANY DIFFERENT "REASONS" FOR THE FUMES IN CABIN, NONE OF WHICH MAKE MUCH SENSE. MILDEW DOES NOT SMELL LIKE SULFUR OR EXHAUST FUMES. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, I WAS TOLD THAT I "DO NOT DRIVE ENOUGH MILES" DURING MY TRIPS TO "DRY OUT THE EVAPORATOR CORE" SO I AM TOLD MY DRIVING HABITS, NOT FORD'S DESIGN FLAWS ALLOWING EXHAUST INTO CABIN, ARE THE REASON FOR THE FUMES. SERVICE MANAGER HAS BEEN DILIGENT AND PROFESSIONAL AND IS A GENUINELY NICE PERSON, THOUGH FORD IS TRYING TO SERVE UP A "RED HERRING" BY TRYING TO DIVERT ATTENTION TO THE A/C SYSTEM RATHER THAN ADMIT TO EXHAUST FUMES IN PASSENGER CABIN. FORD REPLACED THE EVAP CORE WHICH RESULTED IN NEARLY NO A/C UPON BEING TOLD VEHICLE READY FOR PICK-UP ON 10/15/16, SO IT IS STILL IN SERVICE..NOW TO REPAIR WHAT THEY BROKE DURING "FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT". SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES AND/OR SULFUR-TYPE ODORS COMING THROUGH AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION, PASSING ON HIGHWAY, OR WHEN ENGINE IS UNDER A LOAD. FUMES/SMELL GET SO BAD THAT I HAVE TO ROLL DOWN ALL WINDOWS AND OPEN SUNROOF TO VENTILATE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. TOLERATED THE HEADACHES, NAUSEA, AND LIGHT-HEADEDNESS WHILE DRIVING UNTIL SITUATION BECAME INTOLERABLE AND HAD BEGUN TO AVOID DRIVING THE EXPLORER. FIRST SERVICED IN 10/2015, DEALER HAD VEHICLE FOR 4 OR 5 DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT A TSB WAS PERFORMED WHICH INCLUDED REMOVING THE REAR BUMPER AND USING SEALANT, BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. FUMES IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT PERSISTED. ON 9/26/2016 TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR ATTEMPTS FOR SAME PROBLEM. DEALER HAD VEHICLE THROUGH 10/4/16, AND CALLED TO TELL ME TO COME PICK-UP VEHICLE AS IT WAS "FIXED" BY CLEANING A/C EVAPORATOR, AND ALSO "SPEAKING WITH FORD ENGINEERS". WENT FOR TEST DRIVE WITH SERVICE MANAGER. AFTER APPROX. 4-5 MILES ON HIGHWAY, UNDER VARYING ACCELERATION CONDITIONS, CABIN BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE FUMES AGAIN, COMING THROUGH THE A/C VENTS. THEN I BEGAN TO FEEL LIGHT-HEADED AND INFORMED SERVICE MANAGER OF SAME. COULD NOT VENTILLATE VEHICLE DUE TO HEAVY RAINS, BUT TAKING A/C OFF OF "RECIRCULATE AIR" HELPED ONLY A LITTLE, AND CHANGED NATURE OF ODOR SLIGHTLY. DEALERSHIP WAS USING A METER TO MEASURE WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CARBON MONOXIDE. WAS CONSISTENTLY TOLD THROUGHOUT THAT MEASUREMENTS WERE "LOW" AT 900PPM TO MAX 1500PPM. WHEN DRIVING WITH SAME METER, IT ALARMED MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE METER RESPONDS TO BREATHING IN THE CAR. I DETERMINED THAT METER WAS FOR CARBON DIOXIDE NOT CARBON MONOXIDE. RETURNED VEHICLE TO SERVICE, WAS TOLD FORD IS HAVING REGIONAL REP EXAMINE VEHICLE ON 10/11/16. I HAVE FILED A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT WITH BBB.

I REPORTED THE ISSUE AT LEAST FOUR (4) TO SIX (6) WITH THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY ATTEMPTED WITH THE HELP OF FORD ENGINEERS TO FIX IT WITH INSTRUCTIONS FROM TSB 14-0130 BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HELP. ON TWO (2) SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THEY HAD TO GIVE ME A RENTAL CAR FOR TWO (2) WEEKS BECAUSE THEY WERE TROUBLESHOOTING AND ATTEMPTING TO FIX IT. I HAVE ALSO ATTACHED A LETTER FROM THE DEALERSHIP STATING THEIR INTEREST IN PURCHASING THE CAR BUT I DON'T KNOW IF IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE DEFECTS BUT I FIND IT VERY INTERESTING.

UPON HARD ACCELERATION, SUCH AS TRYING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY OR GOING UP A HILL WHILE PULLING A TRAILER, EXHAUST FUMES ARE GETTING INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN. YOU CAN SMELL AN ODOR SIMILAR TO SULFUR OR LIKE SOMEONE STRUCK A KITCHEN MATCH. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE FRONT AND REAR AC UNITS ARE RUNNING. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THE TSB REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE ON THE VEHICLE BUT THE FUMES ARE STILL GETTING INTO THE CABIN. THE LAST TIME I HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER, I HAD ONE OF THE MECHANICS RIDE WITH ME WHILE I GOT ON THE INTERSTATE. HE NEVER WOULD SAY THAT HE SMELLED THE ODOR OF THE EXHAUST BUT IF I COULD SMELL IT, HE CERTAINLY COULD HAVE AS WELL. THE ODOR IS OFFENSIVE AND BOTHERSOME BUT THE CARBON MONOXIDE THAT IT CONTAINS IS POISONOUS. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE MANY POST TO VARIOUS WEBSITES POSTED BY OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.

MY VEHICLE HAS HAD AN EXHAUST SMELL UNDER ACCELERATION SINCE NEW. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 9 MONTHS IT STARTING GETTING REALLY BAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BEGINNING OF AUGUST AND THEY COMPLETED THE TECH BULLETIN BUT WAS NOT FIXED SO I TOOK IT BACK. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY WORKED ON IT FOR 3 DAYS WITH TECHNICAL SERVICE FROM FORD MOTOR HEADQUARTERS BUT COULD NOT FIX IT AND TOLD ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND GAVE ME BACK THE VEHICLE. WHEN I PICKER UP THE VEHICLE MY RECEIPT STATED "COULD NOT VERIFY PROBLEM", (THAT IS A MAJOR COVER-UP) BY THE DEALER FROM LIABILITY. I FILED COMPLAINT WITH FORD AND TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THEY VERIFIED THE PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD IT TWICE MORE AND REPLACED THE EXHAUST AND RESEALED THE BODY SEAMS BUT THE SMELL IS STILL THERE. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD BUT KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND AND TOLD I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THE DEALER TELLS ME THEY HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO TRY AND FIX IT. MY MAIN COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS IS A LEASE VEHICLE SO IT BELONGS TO FORD, THEY SHOULD JUST TAKE THEIR VEHICLE BACK AND RELEASE ME FROM MY LEASE SINCE THEY CANNOT FIX THEIR VEHICLE. FORD TELLS ME THAT THEY FILED THE PAPERWORK FOR THE LEMON LAW BUT I NEED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND AGAIN. I JUST PICKED IT UP SATURDAY AND THIS IS MONDAY AND FORD SAYS TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND FORD WILL CALL ME ON FRIDAY. I HAVE NOTICED AN INCREASE IN "SLEEPY DRIVING", OR GETTING SLEEPY EVEN IF IT IS JUST ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. IN JULY 2016 I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE FIXED, HOWEVER, THE FIX DID NOT WORK. THIS MORNING I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MORE REPAIRS. I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD, AND THESE FUMES COMING INTO THE VEHICLE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY. 3.5L ECOBOOST, 24K MILES. UPON ATTEMPTED ACCELERATION, ENGINE DOES NOT PRODUCE FULL POWER. ENGINE LAGS SIGNIFICANTLY THEN SURGES IN BOTH RPM AND ACCELERATION. MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER GIVES OFF EXHAUST GAS THAT ENTERS THE CABIN UNDER ACCELERATION TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HAS MADE PASSENGERS IN MY CAR SICK AND VOMIT. THE PROBLEM STARTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND AS OF TODAY THE DEALER CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE CENTER WITHOUT SUCCESS. THEY SAY THE CAR IS FIXED BUT STILL SMELLS. THE DEALER TELLS ME THEY HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH FORD AND STILL NO REMEDY. ITS ALMOST LIKE THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE WARRANTY TO RUN OUT SO THEY CAN FORGET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. MY BROTHER HAS AN EXPLORER POLICE VEHICLE AND ON A RECENT TRIP WITH HIM IN HIS CAR HIS DID THE EXACT SAME THING.

I HAVE NOTICED SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO MAX WHEN PASSING A CAR OR ENTERING AN ON RAMP. I HAVE TRIED WITH BOTH THE FRESH AIR ON AND RECIRCULATE ON, THE SAME EFFECT IS NOTICED. FINALLY AFTER DEALING WITH THIS FOR ABOUT A YEAR I BROUGHT IT UP TO MY DEALER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR ITS ROUTINE SERVICE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME HE HAS A 2016 EXPLORER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT FORD CAME BACK WITH SOMETHING ABOUT VENTS NOT OPENING QUICK ENOUGH AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. TO HIS KNOWLEDGE, THERE WAS NO FIX FROM FORD AS OF YET. THE SMELL DOES GET QUITE STRONG AND ROUTINELY THE WINDOWS NEED TO BE LOWERED TO PREVENT THE STRONG ODORS FROM LINGERING. I AM CONCERNED AS TO WHAT THE ODOR IS, POSSIBLY HARMFUL EMISSIONS THAT COULD AFFECT MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS? UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE SMELLED WILL APPEAR WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED MORE THAN HALF WAY, FAR TOO OFTEN IN MY OPINION. I DID NOTICE MORE OF THE SMELL DURING THE WARMER MONTHS OF THE YEAR AND NOT AS MUCH WHEN IT WAS COOLER/COLD (WE LIVE IN FLORIDA SO NEVER FREEZING).

IN AUGUST 2014 WE PURCHASED A NEW FORD EXPLORER 2015 XLT. CURRENTLY HAVE APPROXIMATELY 40K MILES ON IT. WHEN EITHER OF US ACCELERATE TO ENTER A FREEWAY QUICKLY, OR DRIVE UP A HILL THERE IS A STRONGER ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. OF COURSE WE OPEN THE WINDOWS, BUT MY WIFE IS ASTHMATIC AND IT GREATLY AFFECTS HER BREATHING AND OTHER ASTHMA SYMPTOMS INCLUDING COUGHING, WHEEZING AND NEEDING TO USE A 'RESCUE' INHALER. THIS OCCURS DURING THE WINTER AS WELL AS WHEN THE AC IN ON. WE LOVE OUR BEAUTIFUL FORD EXPLORER AND ARE TROUBLED BY THIS PROBLEM, BUT BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS FAULT AND SHOULD JUSTIFY A RECALL.

PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, MAY NOT OCCUR FOR WEEKS AND THEN MIGHT OCCUR 3-4 TIMES IN A DAY ONE SPECIFIC EXAMPLE IS ON NOVEMBER 30, 2015, AT 2:30 PM HVAC SYSTEM IS SET TO HEAT, SET TO 73 DEGREES HEAT IN DUAL TEMP CONTROL IS ON, RECIRCULATION IS ON, ELEVATION IS 3100 FEET, GOING UPHILL ON CATRON BLVD TOWARDS HIGHWAY 16 IN RAPID CITY, SD,(OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN), DECELERATED FROM 50 TO 40 MPH AT 40MPH SPEED LIMIT SIGN, SEVERAL VEHICLES AROUND US, ODOMETER READING WAS 5482.5 MILES, AND SMELLED EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN THAT APPEARED TO COME FROM THE REAR OF THE CABIN, HAD TO OPEN BOTH FRONT WINDOWS FOR ABOUT A MINUTE TO GET THE SMELL OUT.

I JUST READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT FORD EXPLORER EXHAUST ODOR POTENTIAL CONCERNS SENT TO NHTSA. I OWN A 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH ABOUT 11,500 MILES. ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE EXHAUST ODOR IN THE VEHICLE CABIN. IN BOTH INSTANCES THIS OCCURRED DURING NEAR WIDE-OPEN-THROTTLE ACCELERATION WHILE MERGING ONTO AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THE ODOR IS AN EXHAUST ODOR WITH AN ADDITIONAL "ROTTEN EGG" ODOR CHARACTERISTIC WHICH IS INDICATIVE OF AN OVER-RICH FUEL CONDITION THAT LIKELY OCCURS AT WIDE-OPEN-THROTTLE. I HAVE NOT SMELLED THIS ODOR AT ANY OTHER TIMES, WHICH I SUSPECT IS BECAUSE I HARDLY EVER ACCELERATE SO INTENSELY. SINCE WE TOOK POSSESSION OF OUR 2015 FORD EXPLORER WE HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP MORE THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE WE HAVE EVER OWNED. THE SMELL FROM EXHAUST IS HORRIBLE. IN JUST OVER A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP WE HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES AND IS STILL AS BAD IF NOT WORSE THAN WHEN WE STARTED SMELLING IT. THEY TRIED EVERYTHING THAT FORD TOLD THEM TO DO AND THEN THEY (THE DEALERSHIP) TRIED FIXES ON THEIR OWN OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKET AND THEY STILL CAN NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. WE SMELL EXHAUST FUMES FILL UP THE ENTIRE VEHICLE NOT ONLY ACCELERATING BUT DRIVING JUST NORMALLY SOMETIMES AND IT GETS SO BAD THAT WE HAVE HAD TO OPEN ALL THE WINDOWS AND EVEN PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND OPEN ALL THE DOORS JUST TO AIR OUT OUR VEHICLE. WE CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY ONE TIME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD US THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY EXHAUST PROBLEMS REGARDING THE 2015 FORD EXPLORER AND AS FAR AS THEY WERE CONCERNED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. IT IS ABOUT TO GO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM AND THE DEALERSHIP IS ON OUR SIDE AS THEY HAVE SMELLED IT NUMEROUS TIMES THEMSELVES AND THEY STILL CAN NOT FIX IT DESPITE GOING OVER THE ENTIRE VEHICLE NUMEROUS TIMES. IN APRIL 2015, WE PURCHASED A 2015 FORD EXPLORER 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST V-6. FROM THE FIRST DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE GOING HOME WITH OUR NEW CAR. WE HAD AN EXHAUST SMELL ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. WE HAVE GONE TO THE DEALER, A "SUPER STORE" , AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS ONLY THE NEW BURNING OFF THE ENGINE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM! I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION BUT THEY CANNOT SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHEN ACCELERATING BETWEEN 20 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR YOU FEEL A SHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION WHICH FOR A NEW VEHICLE IS A BIT ODD. AT 10,000 MILES I HAD TO HAVE A STABILIZER BAR IN THE FRONT AND REPLACED I NOTICE A LOT OF HEAVY CLUNKING AS I DROVE MY CAR AROUND AND THIS SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM. I I HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE HEADLINER COMING OUT ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR THIS IS BEEN PUSHED IN AND REPLACED 3 TIMES AND IT'S WORKING ON ITS FOURTH TIME. THE ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CAB AND HAVE YET TO BE RESOLVED.

ECO-BOOSTS DO NOT PRODUCE THE SMELL. I EVEN ASKED A POLICE OFFICER ABOUT HIS UNIT, AND NO COMPLAINTS. THEY DRIVE ECO-BOOST ENGINES.

REPORTED TO DEALER, WAS TOLD "THERE IS NO TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM BASED ON YOUR VIN" (THOUGH ALL PRIOR YEAR EXPLORERS 2011-2014 HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND IT HAS NOT YET BEEN RESOLVED BY FORD, AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN FL WHICH WAS GIVEN CLASS ACTION STANDING BY A JUDGE IN OCTOBER, 2014. MY VEHICLE IS NOT "YET" LEMON LAW ELIGIBLE BECAUSE THE NUMBER OF REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAS BEEN LIMITED BY HEALTH PROBLEMS. THE SMELL WAS MORE FAINT INSIDE BUT, NOT OUTSIDE AFTER REPAIRS WERE MADE ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN UPDATED 2/2/2016 *JS CONSUMER STATED THE SULFUR CAN STILL BE SMELLED INSIDE CABIN, BUT LS NOT AS STRONG. THE SULFUR SMELL IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND FORD HAS ONLY ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO SEAL THE CABIN. THIS HAS MADE THE SMELL MORE FAINT INSIDE BUT NOT OUTSIDE. DRIVING HOME UP A HILL WITH A NEWLY PURCHASED 2015 FORD EXPLORER MY WIFE AND I NOTICED A BAD SMELL LIKE EXHAUST FUMES; WE PUT THIS DOWN TO THE NEW ENGINE/EXHAUST BURNING OFF ANY FACTORY GREASE ETC. SUBSEQUENT TRIPS WITH ALL OF MY FAMILY IN THE SUV WE ALL EXPERIENCED A FOUL EXHAUST AND SULFUR SMELL WHEN GOING UP A HILL OR ACCELERATING ABOVE 3K RPM; THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN FRONT OF US TO BLAME FOR THE ODOR. WE HAVE TAKEN THE SUV TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES NOW AND THEY IN CONJUCTION WITH FORD TECHNICAL SUPPORT CANNOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE. THEY HAVE REPLACED/ INSTALLED: EGR VALVE COVER (TECH BULLETIN), BOTH EXHAUST DOWN PIPES, FRONT TRANSFER CASE. THE DEALER HAS NO TEST EQUIPMENT TO FIND THE PROBLEM OR CONFIRM WE ARE SMELLING ENGINE EXHAUST CONTAINING TOXIC GASES INCLUDING CO.

I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT, 3.5 V6, IN NOVEMBER 2014. AT APPROXIMATELY 7,000 MILES (BEGINNING IN APRIL 2015) I STARTED TO NOTICE A ROTTEN EGG ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATION, WHILE ENTERING THE FREEWAY. THE SMELL WOULD OCCUR ESPECIALLY DURING A HARD ACCELERATION. THE SMELL WAS NOTICEABLE WHILE THE A/C SYSTEM WAS ON "VENT" AND "RECIRCULATE" MODE. ON 7/6/2015 I TOOK THE EXPLORER TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE COMPLAINT AND STATED THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN 14-130 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEIR DESCRIPTION ON THE FIX, WAS THAT A SPECIAL AIR-FILTER LOCATED INSIDE THE REAR BUMPER AREA NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. THEY STATED THAT THE SMELL IS COMING FROM MY EVAP-CANISTER. I LEFT THE EXPLORER THERE FOR THE REPAIR AND IT TOOK THEM ALMOST TWO DAYS. THEY SAID, IT WAS AT LEAST A FULL DAYS LABOR TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE WHOLE REAR BUMPER AND OTHER PARTS, ETC. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, A WEEK LATER, I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE EXPLORER ON THE FREEWAY AND STILL NOTICED THE ROTTEN EGG ODOR DURING ACCELERATION. THIS TIME THE ODOR IS ONLY NOTICEABLE DURING "VENT" MODE WHEN THE A/C IS TURNED ON. I AM CONTACTING MY DEALER TODAY ABOUT THIS. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER FORD OWNERS BECAUSE THESE "FUMES" IN THE CABIN AREA MOST LIKELY ARE AFFECTING YOUR HEALTH AND OTHER PASSENGERS. UPDATED 12/06/2017*CN

A FOLLOW UP ON A CO PROBLEM, THAT HAPPENED ON 7/7/15. DEALER TOOK THE EXPLORER IN ON THE CO ISSUE ALONG WITH FORD KNOWING OF IT. GAVE US A RENTAL FOR A WEEK, AND CAME UP WITH NO CO LEVELS AFTER A WEEK. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TAKE A RIDE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, EXHAUST WAS PRESENT BUT HE SAID IT WAS A HOT ENGINE SMELL. NO LEVELS WHERE FOUND BUT SYMPTOMS IN MY BODY OF CO WHERE INDICATED WHILE THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS IN THE VEHICLE. LEFT THE VEHICLE FOR THE DAY AND WAS TOLD BY FORD THE SERVICE MANAGER FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND TO COME GET THE VEHICLE. UPON THE RIDE HOME MY CO DETECTOR INDICATED LEVELS AT 534PPM. WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN AND THE SUN ROOF OPEN AT 70MPH. ALONG THE WAY I STOPPED IN THE LOCAL HOSPITAL, WAITED AN HOUR IN A HALF FOR BLOOD WORK THEN WALKED OUT. HAD TO GET BACK TO WORK. ONLY 15 MINUTES BACK HOME THE LEVELS WENT UP TO 871PPM. CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD IN THE AM TO GET THIS PROBLEM SOLVED ASAP BEFORE SOME DIES. 2015 WITH ONLY 4,500 MILES. SO ON A TRIP TODAY 7-7-2015 WE BROUGHT ALONG A CO DETECTOR, ON THE WAY DOWN FOR THE HR TRIP THE LEVEL WAS @ 81. THAT'S WITH THE AC ON WITH TEMPS OUTSIDE @ 82. ON THE WAY BACK FROM ARE HR TRIP WITH TEMPS STILL IN THE 80'S THE CO LEVEL WAS @ 183. IF YOU LOOK AT THE CPSC.GOV WEBSITE YOU CAN SEE THAT @ THE LEVELS OF 150-220 IT WILL CAUSE DISORIENTATION / UNCONSCIOUSNESS & DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!! SO @ THIS POINT IN OUR LIVES IN OUR 50'S WE DO NOT WANT TO DIE. WE WILL BE ASKING FORD TO TAKE OUR EXPLORE XLT LIMITED BACK BEFORE WE DIE. IT ONLY HAS 4200 K ON IT.
