See attached document for complaint. I am writing in regard to an open recall on my Ford Explorer. In February 2024 I received a letter from Ford about a safety recall notice, 24S02/HNTSA, explaining that A-pillar applique trim clip attachment was improperly assembled. Then, another letter from Ford in October 2025, marked “Important Safety Recall”. The driver’s side A-pilar applique trim fell off while driving on interstate I-64 in Virginia. Fortunately, no accident resulted. I have been to my dealership in Williamsburg, Virginia several times for service for this problem and I am always told there are no parts available. Over time I have purchased 5 ford vehicles and always was satisfied with them. This brings me to ask when may I expect proper resolution for this problem?
See attached document for complaint. I've got a 2015 Ford Explorer. A recall letter was sent to me over two years ago. The issue was the exterior a-pillar applique trim clip. I have been trying to get this taken care of over two years now. All the Ford Dealerships in my area tell me is we don't have the parts in. I'm a very patient person but this has become ridiculous. I would very must appreciate some help in getting this matter resolved.

The recall campaign from Jan 19,2024 Manufacturer Recall Number24S02 NHTSA Recall Number24V031 has been open since 2024 and has not had a remedy become available. In the meantime, my passenger side pillar has become detached, as warned in the recall. Rain leaks into my car and causes visibility issues. This is worrisome because I do have three young children, one in a car seat right behind the passenger side. In addition, the second recall,Oct 13,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number25SA9 NHTSA Recall Number25v695 is also an extreme issue with my vehicle. The backup camera has malfunctioned several times, almost daily at this point. It also will not notify me of something behind me as it's intended to at times. FORD has yet to remedy either of these.

Exterior A-pillar trim and rubber strip on both sides has detached from vehicle on the highway. The sides got detached on separate occasions. While driving on the highway, the driver side rubberstrip got detached in one end, starting to flap back and forth over the windscreen, making a lot of noise and obstructing the view. The trim did not come off that time. The passenger side entire trim flew off completely on the highway causing a hazard for other drivers. There is a recall, 24S02 since 2 years ago in relation to this but Ford has not yet been able to address the issue. I received another letter from them to immediately call the dealer to schedule inspection and repair. However, the dealer keeps telling me that the parts have been on backorder for over a year and they cannot address the issue without the parts. How long is it reasonable to wait for this hazard to be addressed?

My vehicle is impacted by the existing safety recalls. The trim around my windshield has broken and parts have flown off the car while driving. I have taken my car to the dealer to ask for repair and they said they should have parts in about 3 months. It has been nearly a year and they still do not have parts. I cannot imagine why they can't get the parts for a safety issue in this amount of time. Is there anything you can to do force them to prioritize getting these parts and getting my car fixed?

See attached document for complaint. I am writing to formally report a serious and ongoing delay in the fulfillment of Safety Recall 24S02 (NHTSA Recall 24V031) for my 2015 Ford Explorer, which poses a hazard not only to my family but to others on the road. This recall involves the exterior trim on the A-pillars of the vehicle detaching while driving. In our case, this hazard has already occurred-one of the trims on our vehicle flew off while we were on the highway. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this incident highlights the urgency of the recall and the risk posed by the remaining trim, which could detach at any time. Despite receiving the recall notice in early 2024, and despite repeated attempts over the past year and a half to get the necessary parts, we have been informed by our dealership that Ford has not manufactured or supplied any parts for this recall. The dealership confirmed that they requested the parts back in February 2024, but as of today, no update or estimated timeline has been provided by Ford. This situation is unacceptable and has left us driving a vehicle with a known, active safety hazard. We feel that Ford has failed to meet its obligation to repair this defect within a reasonable timeframe, and we are deeply concerned for our safety and the safety of others on the road.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the A-pillar trim on the driver's side of the windshield detached. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part for the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer suggested that the A-pillar trim be secured with duct tape by a technician, or the contact could also perform the temporary fix. The contact secured the trim piece with duct tape to prevent further detachment and eliminate the outside sound entering the cabin of the vehicle due to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Hello. From what I understand, Ford has not come up with a solution for the exterior a--pillar applique trim clip attachments. I fully believe they have abandoned this issue as its not a brand new vehicle. Well, its new to me so it fully counts and should not be abandoned. I was on the highway in St. Louis, Missouri (I live right across the river in Illinois) and out of nowhere, something hit my car. I swerved and almost hit a driver to my left and after that, I almost got the guy in front of me. Now this caused a massive panic attack and soon after anxiety set in. I have horrible anxiety issues and I have the prescriptions to prove it. Its so bad, I can't fall asleep and so I take another prescrption for help getting to sleep. Anyway, I got off the closest ramp ands parked to see what happened. Sure enough, the passenger side exterior a-pillar is hanging there. That's the "something that hit the car and almost caused a multi car accident. I tried to call Ford about this but I'm left with ongoing ringing. Live chat agent had no idea what I was talking about. That set me off. I had taken a screenshot of the Kelly Blue Book website stating there was a recall, which, by the way, has been removed. Now that is extra suspicious. The KBB website stated notices were sent sometime earlier this year but I got nothing. The registration is in my name and is 100% accurate with my address and phone number are all up to date. I found no other way to contact Ford. I didn't want to file a complaint, but here we are. This is a SAFETY issue which caused me to fall into a panic and anxiety attack. I have a witness as my husband was in that passenger seat when it happened. Like I said, I, without a single doubt, believe that Ford Motors has abandoned this problem and that they don't care. This issue needs addressed now. I can't afford to go get it repaired myself as I am between jobs. If this isn't resolved, I will call my attorney for guidance.

I received a recall letter in February 2024 stating there was a recall on my vehicle and that the parts for fixing the recall were out of stock, and they should be available in the latter half of 2024. I never recieved another letter and the part of my vehicle that is recalled flew off my vehicle while driving on the highway it hit my rear passenger window and scared everyone in the vehicle the window didn't bust and I didn't realize that it was a piece of my vehicle that flew off until I got to where I was headed and seen the part missing, while we were driving I thought someone threw something out the window.

The pillar trim recall has been in effect for nearly 2 years. I took my husband’s Explorer (I am his legal guardian as he suffered [XXX] and he has been hospitalized for over a year) to Chillicothe MO Ford in October of 2024 for the safety recall on this trim issue, as my A pillar trim flew off from the highway and may have impacted another vehicle on [XXX] between St. Joseph and Kansas City at around that time. Chillicothe Ford inspected the vehicle and ordered parts. It is now almost over a year, and neither Chillicothe Ford or Ford Corporate Office can give me an estimate on when it the parts are available. I escalated this concern yet again to Ford Corporate, and they blamed it on the Chillicothe dealership for not requesting an emergency part order. I talked to Chillicothe Ford immediately thereafter, and they said that they did escalate the part request, and nothing has been done -not just for me but over 10 other Explorer owners who are waiting on the parts for this recall. I called Richmond MO Ford dealership this week, and was informed they had the same problem and that Ford is lying about the part availability. Almost a million consumers are affected by this recall, and accordingly there are exponentially as many unfortunate drivers who could be hit by flying parts, and Ford REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS RECALL. My sister had the same part fall off her car into traffic a month ago with her Ford Explorer. THIS IS A LIFE SAFETY ISSUE AND NHSTA NEEDS TO HOLD FORD MOTOR COMPANY ACCOUNTABLE FOR WILLFULLY PUTTING THE PUBLIC IN HARM’S WAY! Date of Occurrence: Monday, [XXX] While driving on [XXX] in Florida, the Exterior A-Pillar on the Drivers Side Window blew off of my vehicle. The entire thing! My Vehicle has been under a Recall for this very problem. Safety Recall Notice 24S02/NHTSA Recall 24V031. I even had a repair appointment set up at the Dealership that we bought the vehicle from in 2018. Paradise Ford in Cocoa, FL. Upon arrival, I was informed that they had no parts and would actually, be calling all of the other clients that were scheduled that day for the same repair. Since then, I have received an additional Letter from the Ford Company letting me know that Parts are still unavailable. Now, that this has occurred, I have reached out to a local Ford Dealership here in Wisconsin (our Primary Residence) and also been told that no parts are available. I am currently awaiting a call back from them as of yesterday 05/29/2025, to see if there are any other options other than them using an off market part to replace the Pillar at my cost (option told to me by their Service Scheduling Girl. Needless to say, we averted a possible very bad situation this past Monday. If this piece, which is rather larger, had hit another car, there could have been a very negative outcome. My complaint is that, I am now driving a vehicle that is missing an important part. I want it fixed. We have been waiting, patiently, for going on 2 years. Upon research, I've seen articles written that these parts have been on Backorder since this recall was initiated. And, that there are approximately 5% of these vehicles that will experience the disengagement of this part(s). Sounds like Ford is dropping the ball on this, big time. What are my options now? I need to get this repaired as well as have the Passenger side Pillar also replaced since one has already 'fallen off'. And, the entire Drivers side Window is now exposed to additional damage/failure without that piece in place. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5

On the hood, the paint is coming off (and has been for several years). It looks like maybe where it was "clamped" (for lack of better words) while they were painting the hood and maybe the paint didn't adhere like it should. I have actually seen several 2015 Ford Explorers that have the exact same paint spots missing on their hoods. One time I almost tried to get into another Explorer because it was black and the paint was missing in the same spot and i thought it was my car. My next issue is the back up camera doesn't work more often than it does. It always says unavailable. I know there have been recalls on other Fords for the exact same reason, so not sure why 2015 Ford Explorers were excluded.

i dont understand ford explorer has same recall i have a lot of recall on these and i cant take it off everytime its a recall. i work 7 days a week. Thats the reason i try to trade it in . But i still own a lot for it. I dont know to much about the explorer i brought from the carlot.
The A-pillar trim piece on the passenger side of my 2015 Explorer came off of the vehicle while it was being driven. This could have put someone on the road behind me at risk of a serious accident. I took it to the Ford dealership and they inspected it and determined that both A-pillar trim pieces need to be repaired and replaced under an existing recall from Ford Motor Co.. The dealership did not give me a copy of the inspection report, but I signed one on 8/12/2024. I was told by the dealership service department that the parts are on backorder, and a date for replacement could not be given. I was told that I could continue to drive my car "as is" while waiting indefinitely for parts for this repair and replacement. I feel that Ford Motor Co. is not giving this the attention it deserves, and is certainly not fixing this recall issue in a timely manner.

The PILLAR APPLIQUE TRIM has came off on BOTH sides of my windshield. I was driving down the highway and the trim came 90% off. I swerved wondering what was going on, almost wrecked and had to slow down to exit. I had tape in the car and had to tape it down. This is a known issue to Ford and they have a safety recall on it, yet has no date when it can be fixed. I was told if I need it fix it has to be done at a Ford Dealership if I would like to be reimbursed once the “full” recall goes in effect. However, I was told since there is safety recall, Ford dealerships will not fix it! L the bolts and screws are showing on both side of my windshield.

Extensive leaking from the windshield area that is causing a significant amount of water to flood the passenger floorboard and the middle console where the screen for the radio, ac/heating control, and navigation system is. The lights on the middle console screen have become wet and are now blinking. The radio and the ac/heating screen is not allowing for any adjustments. The exterior right-side A-pillar panel departed the vehicle unexpectedly while driving at highway speeds (~70 mph). No early warning signs or indications were present. The incident occurred on the highway at night. When the panel departed, it made a loud noise like something hit the windshield. The driver and passengers were unaware that the panel was no longer attached to the vehicle until exiting the highway and inspecting the vehicle. The panel was not found on the highway after the incident and very well could have hit another vehicle, person, or animal and caused an accident. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The Ford Motor Company has an active recall for this issue and has indicated that they will not replace the panel until a remedy is identified later this year (2024). With the panel missing, there are broken pieces of plastic still loosely attached to the A-pillar and make a vibrating noise when driving at highway speeds.

While driving on the freeway, the windshield trim panel on the passenger side detached, lifted, and folded about 2/3 of the way up the panel. The detached portion then banged against the roof of the vehicle, door, and front passenger window until it snapped and flew off. It put us and other motorists in danger.
-Driver side front door/window trim flew right off while on freeway and almost hit another car. This is actually the 2nd time the trim came off after being repaired not even 5 months ago (I didn't file a complaint the first time). -It could hit another car or motorcycle while going high speeds and possibly cause a crash. -I haven't checked with my dealer but have read articles online how there already are complaints regarding this. -I took it to a local private car repair facility, and they claimed to have seen it happen quite frequently. -You can slowly see the trim start to delaminate over time. My passenger side trim is half-way off and probably a matter of time before the same happens to it.
The window trim came off while I was going 60mph. It was very loud and scary. I had no warning. I didn’t realise what it was until I stopped. I’m very lucky that it didn’t hit the car behind me at that speed. I see this part missing from a lot of Ford Explorers so it must be common. There needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt.

Driver side Windshield trim flew off on interstate

The passenger side window trim flew off on the expressway. Barely missing the vehicle behind. The drivers side trim looks as if it's becoming detached also.
The A-Pillar Windscreen TRIM on each side of the vehicle are a failed Ford design and require pending replacement to prevent them flying off whilst traveling and endangering other road users or pedestrians.
The windshield trim piece on the passenger side flew off while driving and could have hit another vehicle /property or a person causing damage or injury. Online research indicates there is a known issue with these parts. However, I was unable to locate a recall.
While driving around 45 mph I was startled by something black flapping against the passenger side of the windshield. I thought I must have hit a large bird and it was caught somehow. I immediately pulled off the road to see what happened. I found a large strip of rubber sealer had come loose from around my windshield and was causing the flapping, also the windshield trim was gone. I drove back the way I came and found the missing part in the road. Yes I feel this is a hazard to traffic. I was very startled with the commotion and if there was a car behind me they could have been startled by flying pieces of my car. I haven't had the repairs done yet.
A-Pillar molding suddenly detached and flew off while driving down interstate. The driver's side flew off in October of 2020. Caused me to swerve as I thought I hit something. Thankfully, no one was beside me. I didn't realize what it was until I was able to pull over at rest stop. Passenger side flew off while on highway in April of 2023. This time, the seal/gasket remained attached and was slapping the side of the vehicle until I could get somewhere to top and yank it off. The pillar molding caused several vehicles behind me to swerve, but no accidents were caused. Both times this happened, several of the plastic clips appear to have been broken. Both times this happened, there was no warning. No sounds or minor lifting to indicate that something might be loose. After the driver's side one happened, I took the vehicle in to the dealership and was told by Barton Ford that "this is a common problem with this style of Explorer." I could not afford the amount that I was quoted to replace. Also, after the first incident, I started noticing how many other Explorers are driving around with the same issue. This is ridiculous that Ford is allowing this issue to remain unresolved. I live in the country, where highway speeds are common on back roads and the sound alone that this makes is terrifying. I thought that I blew a tire and there was rubber on my windshield the first time. The second time, I had people slowing down and trying to get away from me probably in fear that more parts were going to suddenly start falling off. Also caused cosmetic damage to my passenger side door and windows due to the "flapping" of the rubber.

Was driving on the freeway going about 60mph when passenger side windshield moulding flew off the vehicle and hit my windshield & mirror. I have no idea where the part landed. My concern is - the part should not just fly off even on an older vehicle. I have no idea if the part hit anyone else’s vehicle. I had no warning that this part could just fly off.

When driving the vehicle, I can smell gas fumes which caused nausea. I didn’t know it was worse in the back of the cabin where my children sit until I sat back there for a 3 hour trip. The smell was stronger there which led to headache, nausea and fatigue. It doesn’t seem to come from the vent, it seems from the entire body of the vehicle. This puts my children’s health at risk. And all of our lives because if we travel far enough breathing this in, it can lead to exhaustion which can cause a crash and put others’ safety at risk. I’m surprised to see there is no recall, yet, it’s been reported that there have been 1.5 million complaints. We are having the issue fixed next Wednesday, but we will be without a car (ford is not providing a loan vehicle) and the bill is extremely expensive. This is clearly something wrong with the way the vehicle was made and is not fair as consumers that we not only have to breathe this in, but pay for the repair that has clearly been an issue for a majority of police vehicles out of 1.5 million complaints. Please help us.

The driver side windshield trim separated from the vehicle while driving on the freeway. Upon inspection at our destination, it was evident that 4 of the plastic clips had broken causing the failure. The driver behind us was able to avoid the flying debris from this incident. We have not taken it in for repairs yet. There was no warning or early indication of this problem prior to it occurring. Concerned the passenger side will do the same.

Passenger side front windshield trim flew off the car while driving on the freeway.
Plastic cover of windshield detached while driving. May pose a hazard to other drivers as it becomes a projectile when detaching. It also startled the driver when it detached, causing swerving. There was no damage done to provoke the problem, it was spontaneous. Have not taken the vehicle to be inspected by dealer.
I was driving on the interstate at 65mph and the driverside windshield panel flew off. As far as I know, it did not hit any vehicles that were traveling behind me.

Windshield Trim: My windshield trim began stripping off of my windshield as I was traveling on highway speeds on I-10 back in August 2022. I managed to "glue" the trim back into place until getting to the dealership. They informed me that it would be cheaper to replace the whole windshield since I had existing chips and a crack (through my insurance) than it would be to replace the trim. Therefore, I filed a claim through my insurance and paid my $500 deductible to have the windshield and trim replaced. Check Engine Light: Throughout the life of my vehicle, I have had multiple episodes of Check Engine Light errors and "running lean codes." More recently in October 2022 at 102,000 miles, I experienced check engine errors with running lean codes. After $8k and 4 separate trips to the Ford Dealership from October 2022 to January 2023 to "fix" the problem by overhauling my engine and replacing sensors etc, the check engine light is gone (for now). There is obviously a widespread problem with Ford Explorers and their check engine lights. Ford Consumer Affairs will not provide financial support since they indicated that even though my vehicle is less than 150,000 miles, it is over their 7 year mark (mine just turned 8 years old). I have copies of all receipts and are available upon request. Rear Backup Camera: My camera has been glitching in and out (while in reverse) for the last year and is a safety concern.

Right "A pillar" cap broke off while driving on the freeway
The vertical black plastic trim piece along the side of the windshield on the drivers side of the car detached and flew away while driving on the highway.
Trim moulding right passenger front window. The piece is not available as it flew off while driving down Highway on 25 June 2022. We don't know what happened to the piece and if it struck anything/one traveling behind us. No warning. We replaced piece.
Body: windshield Trim detached last year and flew off at highway speeds. Didn’t cause damage to my own vehicle but could have bounced off someone else’s. Drivetrain: non serviceable (unable to do a fluid change) on my power train unit. Due to this it started leaking at the front seal and others reported failure during driving. The fix would be to add a drain plug and make it a serviceable unit.
While driving down the interstate, the driver’s side windshield trim panel flew off my vehicle.
I was traveling on Rte 25 in Wareham, MA at approximately 65 mph when without warning the passenger side A-pillar trim piece flew off of my vehicle (2015 Ford Explorer). Timing belt broke and caused vehicle to stop running, this was after I took it to a mechanic who did a diagnostic and no issues showed up. Now, because of the timing belt breaking, the engine is irreparable and the entire engine will need to be replaced. It only has 116K miles. Another minor complaint is the front driver's side side windshield panel has come unglued. Luckily, the vehicle was stationary when I noticed it being loose. However, it could pose a safety risk. I have noticed other similar vehicles missing the same piece, so it seems to be a consistent problem with Ford Explorers.

The windshield trim on the passenger side flew off the vehicle unexpectedly while driving 70 mph on the freeway. At 89,000 miles I was going 65 mph headed home when my window pillar flew off just so happen the vehicle behind us didn’t get affected by it. I am reaching out because there should be a recall on this. This is unacceptable for you to even pay for something with a part that will come off. Reach 100,000 popping noise when turning. What’s the issue Ford.
PASSENGER SIDE A PANEL HAS BEEN LOOSE FOR MANY YEARS, BUT FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND SMACKED INTO MY WINDSHIELD. VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE DRIVER AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD!!! I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS ONLINE AND DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED.

ON JAN 20, 2021 MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER LEFT DRIVER SIDE LOWER WINDSHIELD MOULDING PANEL FLEW OFF INTO TRAFFIC. I WAS TRAVELLING AT 45 MPH ON A WINDY DAY. I CIRCLED AROUND AND SOMEONE HAD RUN OVER IT AND SO IT WAS NOT REPAIRABLE. I HAD 96K MILES ON THE CAR. I GOT THE CAR IN 2017 AND HAVE NOT HAD WINDSHIELD REPLACED. I SAW A FEW CARS SWERVE AROUND IT BEFORE ANOTHER CAR HIT IT. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

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

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55MPH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSED ME TO GO OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A FENCE. VERY DANGEROUS, AS I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER STORIES ONLINE STATING THE SAME THINGS AND SOME AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. LUCKILY I WAS ALONE AND NO ONE WAS HARMED. IT COULD HAVE BEEN ALOT WORSE.

THE WEATHERSTRIPPING ON FRONT DRIVER/PASSENGER DOOR IS ROTTING AWAY, ALSO THE WINDSHIELD RETAINING STRIPS BOTH SIDES, DRY ROTTED.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED. I RAN INTO STORE WHILE FAMILY SAT IN VEHICLE. I CAME BACK OUT, STARTED TO OPEN DOOR, AND HEARD SOMETHING HIT THE GROUND. I PICKED UP A PART OF MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE OFF OF THE GROUND. I AM NOW UNABLE TO OPEN MY DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE.

I GOT IN MY CAR AND HEARD A STRANGE NOISE OUTSIDE. LOOKED AND FOUND THAT THE SMALLER PIECE OF THE DOOR HANDLE HAD FALLEN OFF. I PICKED IT UP AND GOT BACK IN THE CAR, WOULD FIX IT WHEN I GOT HOME, BUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE/LATCH. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE PLASTIC PIECE BACK ON THE HANDLE AND WAS THEN ABLE TO SHUT THE DOOR AND DRIVE HOME. LUCKILY, THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, AS I BELIEVE THE DOOR WOULD HAVE FLOWN OPEN.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE'S A SNAP NOISE AND THEN I SEE THIS RUBBER FLAPPING AT THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED HITTING THE WINDSHIELD IT SCARED US HALF TO DEATH. I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND PULLED OVER TO LOOK AND SEEN THE PASSENGER WINDSHIELD PILLAR HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN IN HALF WHILE I WAS DRIVING, FLEW OFF AND WAS GONE. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON IN THE FORD EXPLORERS, THAT THESE WINDSHIELD PILLARS FLY OFF. IM DISAPPOINTED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM SEEING IT HAPPENS QUITE FREQUENTLY TO THESE CARS ACCORDING TO LOTS OF PEOPLE ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND IM VERY THANKFUL IT DID NOT FLY AND HIT SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HONESTLY I THINK FORD SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT NOT ME. SAD BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO AT CARMAXX. *TR

THIS CAR HAS STARTED SHOWING ALL SIGNS OF CORROSION ON THE FRONT HOOD. I HAVE DONE MY OWN RESEARCH AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF OTHER EXPLORERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. EVERY OUTCOME HAS BEEN DIFFERENT FROM EACH DEALERSHIP TO ANOTHER. HERE IS A COPY OF THE NHTSA ID NUMBER WITH THE CORRESPONDING TSB AND SUMMARY I AM ALSO ATTACHING SEVERAL PICTURES FOR EVIDENCE. (ALL PICTURES WERE TAKEN BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERSHIP- METRO FORD IN OKLAHOMA CITY, OK) NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10156863 MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATION NUMBER: TSB 19-2026 SUMMARY SOME 2000 AND NEWER FORD, LINCOLN AND MERCURY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ALUMINUM BODY PANELS MAY EXHIBIT CORROSION CONCERNS APPEARING AS BUBBLED AND/OR PEELING PAINT WITH OR WITHOUT ACCOMPANYING WHITE DUST. PANEL REPLACEMENT IS RECOMMENDED. FOLLOW THE SERVICE PROCEDURE STEPS TO CORRECT THE CONDITION. *TR

THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ARM RESTS ARE COMING APART AT THE SEAMS AS IS THE CENTER CONSOLE. THE INTERIOR OF MY 2015 EXPLORER WITH 45K MILES LOOKS TERRIBLE. LOOKS LIKE IT'S 20 YEARS OLD. I AM SHOCKED.
Mileage: 45,000
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD MOLDING BECAME LOOSE AND BROKE OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. THE WINDSHIELD SEAL ALSO FLEW UP AND APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET OF THE THE SEAL CAME OFF AND WAS FLAPPING AGAINST PASSENGER WINDOW BEFORE COMING COMPLETELY DETACHED. IT LOOKS LIKE SOME OF THE WHITE CLIPS ARE BROKEN ON THAT SIDE WINDSHIELD PANEL SO WE ARE UNSURE HOW TO FIX THIS. SO NOW WE ARE MISSING THE ENTIRE SIDE WINDSHIELD MOLDING, AND ABOUT 2 TO 3 FEET OF WINDSHIELD STRIPPING. NOW WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, THERE IS ALSO A VIBRATION AND SOUND LIKE AIR IS COMING IN FROM AROUND THE WINDSHIELD. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN THE UPPER 30,000 MILE RANGE WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ONLY 3 MONTHS.

THERE IS A TERRIBLE EXHAUST SMELL THAT COMES INTO THE INTERIOR CABIN. THE SMELL IS EVEN WORSE UPON EXTENDED HARD ACCELERATION. IN ADDITION, THERE IS BUBBLING IN MY HOOD DUE TO FAULTY HOODS BEING PRODUCED ON FORD EXPLORERS. FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED BOTH ISSUES - AS THERE IS A TSB. FORD'S "FIX" TSB-16016 IS NOT A FIX AT ALL. IT MERELY IS A BANDAGE FOR THE PROBLEM AS MY FAMILY STILL SMELLS EXHAUST IN THE VEHICLE. MY 3 YEAR OLD SON IS INHALING THIS TOXIC SMELL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TRI COUNTY FORD (4032 COMMERCE PKWY, BUCKNER, KY 40010, (866) 417-0262) AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,200.

WHEN HAVING THE RECALLS FIXED ON MY EXPLORER THE BACK LIFTGATE IS NOT CENTER EVEN THE DEALERSHIP FIXING IT SAID IT WAS NOT ALSO. ONE INSTANCE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY LEFT SIDE WINDSHIELD RUBBER SEAL STARTS FLAPPING AGAINST SIDE WINDOW THEN EVENTUALLY FLIES OFF. NEXT WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY THE WINDSHIELD SIDE TRIM BREAKS OFF. NOW THE RIGHT SIDE TRIM HAS RIPPED & FLOWN OFF ON FREEWAY. WHICH WILL MEAN THE TRIM WILL PROBABLY BREAK AS WELL.
Mileage: 40,000
THE SIDE PANEL POPPED OUT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE FORD DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO WAS AWARE OF IT. THE SECOND ISSUE WE HAD AT 66,000 MILES WAS AN ERROR CALLED 'TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT'. BOTH TIMES THIS ERROR OCCURRED, WE WERE MOVING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT FIXED ITSELF. THE SECOND TIME, WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT OR KILLED. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. PLEASE GET FORD TO A DRESS THESE SAFETY ISSUES.
Mileage: 60,000
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH AND HEARD A HUGE POP ON THE PASSENGER WINDOW AND SOMETHING BLACK FLY BY. WE PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT THE PLASTIC BLACK TRIM ON THE SIDES OF THE WINDSHIELD BROKE IN HALF AND THE RUBBER WAS HANGING OFF. I HAD TO CUT IT OFF. AFTER TAKING A CLOSER LOOK, IT APPEARS THERE ARE SEVERAL PIECES OF THE PLASTIC TRIM THAT ARE WARPING AND EVEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE PANEL WAS LOSE SO I'M SURE IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS SIDE BREAKS OFF ALSO. I SEE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM ALSO AND IT WOULD BE NICE IF FORD WOULD DO A RECALL ON THE PANELS, AS THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. EVEN THE BOARD THAT THE TRIM ATTACHES ITSELF TO IS COMING LOSE.

AT THE EDGE OF THE HOOD THE PAINT IS BUBBLING, MY CLAIM AT FORD HAS BEEN DENIED AT UNDER 4 YEARS OLD.
HOOD HAVE DETAIL RETAINING DENTS. WHEN I BACK UP SWELLING SOUNDS
PAINT IS PEELING ON THE EDGE OF THE HOOD. TWO EXPLORERS 2015 FAMILY OWNS AND PEELING IN THE SAME LOCATION. CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD WE HAD TO BUY A NEW HOOD. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET SAYING THE SAME THING. THIS PAINT LESS HOOD NEEDS TO BE RECALLED DUE TO FACTORY FAULT OR REPAINTED HOW EVER FORD DOES IT. AROUND 2000.00 FOR A NEW ONE THEY TOLD US. PAINT SHOULD LAST MORE THEN 3 TO 4 YEARS.
AT AROUND 100,000 MILES DRIVERS SEAT BELT WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK...STARTED STICKING AROUND 95,000 MILES. NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A SEATBELT BEFORE ESPECIALLY IN A CAR THAT WAS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. ALSO, AT AROUND THE SAME TIME THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDSHIELD PILLAR BROKE OFF AND FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 65 MPH. THE PASSENGER SIDE FLEW OFF AT 115,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL. NEITHER IS COVERED BY WARRANTY AND OWNER WILL HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET TO COVER THE DAMAGES ($500+). HOW CAN FORD PUT ON SUCH CHEAP FINISHES TO THE CAR? NOISE LEVEL IN THE CAB IS AFFECTED DUE TO WIND NOISE. PASSENGER PILLARPOPPED LOOSE AND WOULD NOT POP BACK IN. APPEARED THAT A CLIP HAD BROKEN.

EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CAME UNHINDERED AND IT MADE THE DOOR TO THE POINT IT CANNOT CLOSE.
MY VEHICLE EXHIBITED A BUBBLING OR BLISTERING UNDER THE PAINT ON ALUMINUM BODY PARTS (HOOD). IT WAS STATED ON FORD'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS TSB 04-25-1, TSB # 06-25-15, AND THE LATEST TSB 16-0028 THAT THIS WAS DUE TO IRON CONTAMINATION OF THE ALUMINUM PANEL. FORD'S WARRANTY SHOWS TO BE 5YR/UNLIMITED MILEAGE. FOR NOT WANTING TO WARRANTY CORROSION ISSUE. WE NOTICED THE ISSUE ON THANKSGIVING 11/22/18, BUT FROM THE LOOKS OF THINGS, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE CORRODING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME.

I HAVE A 2015 FORD EXPLORER, MY DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD PILLAR/TRIM FLEW OFF WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS A DEFECT. I FOUND THIS FORUM THAT HAS A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM BUT YET A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. AT THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE MAN STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES? ODD, NOT EXACTLY THEY ARE AWARE THAT AT SOME POINT THE OTHER SIDE IS BOUND TO FLY OFF ALSO. I WAS TOLD ALTHOUGH I HAVE WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MI, THIS IS NOT COVERED. SO NEXT STEP WAS TO CONTACT FORD WHO THEN STATED THAT THEY AND NHTSA DO RIGOROUS SAFETY TESTING AND HAVE NOT COME TO A CONCLUSION THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE. I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY THIS TRIM FLYING OFF MY VEHICLE COULD OF HIT A MOTORCYCLIST OR ANOTHER WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED DAMAGE. NOT TO MENTION, IT HIT MY WINDSHIELD BEFORE FLYING OFF THAT SCARED ME. SO APPARENTLY THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH REPORTS. AND I WAS TOLD BY A FORD CS REP THAT FORUMS ON THE INTERNET ARE NOT CONSIDERED UNLESS IT IS A FORD FORUM.

AFTER EVEN A MODERATE RAINFALL, THE VEHICLE LEAKS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FOOTWELL AND FROM THE MAP LIGHT. THE LEAKING PRIMARILY OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN OUR DRIVERS. 5 REPAIR ATTEMPTS OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS, INCLUDING A FULL REPLACEMENT OF THE SUNROOF, HAVE NOT FOUND OR RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE NOW SMELLS OF MOLD.

AUGUST 24, 2015 I WAS DRIVING TO A 7:00 PM EXERCISE CLASS .I WAS TALKING TO MY MOTHER VIA BLUETOOTH WHEN I SUDDENLY BLACKED OUT AND DROVE ACROSS THE SERVICE ROAD AND ALL 4 LANES BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH OF 287 . I WAKE TO EMERGENCY RESPONDERS PULLING ME FROM THE CAR AND PUTTING ME INTO A AMBULANCE , MY MOTHER COULD HEAR ALL OF THIS. I WAS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AND HAD MULTIPLE TESTS RUN BUT NOTHING WAS FOUND . AFTER I WAS DISCHARGED I HAD SEVERAL MORE TESTS RUN AND AGAIN NOTHING WAS FOUND. $18,000 DAMAGE TO CAR , MEDICAL BILLS , MISSED WORK AND I HAD TO RETEST TO KEEP MY DRIVERS LICENSE BUT I NEVER COULD FIND A CAUSE. SPRING 2017 A FRIEND SENT ME A ARTICLE ABOUT FORD EXPLORERS LEAKING CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE CABINS . THIS MADE COMPLETE SENSE. I PURCHASED A DETECTOR AND HAVE HAD IT TO GO OFF TWICE. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE . THEY HAVE SAID THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN MODIFIED POLICE VEHICLES BUT I CAN TELL YOU BY MY EXPERIENCE THAT IS NOT TRUE.

SINCE PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2015, WE NOTICED WHEN ACCELERATING THAT THERE WAS AN EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE THE CAB WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED. WE ALSO NOTICED ON LONG TRIPS WE WOULD GET HEADACHES AND FEEL SLEEPY/WEAK. CALLED THE DEALER AND COMPLAINED ABOUT EXHAUST ODOR, AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 600-700 DOLLARS TO RESEAL THE CAB AND DO SOME OTHER REPAIRS. AFTER 2 YEARS OF USE THE PAINT ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD IS BUBBLING. CLEARLY THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS THIS IS A GARAGE CAR AND HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. ON THE ADVICE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO INDICATED THAT THIS IS NOT A UNCOMMON ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO SPEAK TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN. SO, I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER NUMBER AND SPOKE TO JANET WHO CONTINUED TO REPEAT THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT BECAUSE IT SHOWED UP AFTER MY ALLOTTED MILEAGE FOR WARRANTY. SHE REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WITHIN 1 BUSINESS DAY. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THAT CALL. AFTER THE DISTURBING CALL WITH JANET, I SPOKE WITH ANTOINETTE AND SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD SPEAK TO THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR AND GIVE ME A CALL BACK AFTER ANOTHER DAYS SHE CALLED BACK TELLING ME THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME WITH THE COST. I CAN CLEARLY SEE ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS DOES HAPPEN TO FORD EXPLORERS AND MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED. FORD HAS CONVENIENTLY CRAFTED THEIR CONTRACT TO EASILY EXCLUDE PAINT ISSUES DUE TO MILEAGE WHEN THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PAINT.

MY WIFE AND I PARK OUR 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT IN THE PARKING AREA IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE. IN ORDER TO GO ANYWHERE, WE NEED TO BACK IT OUT OF ITS PARKING SPOT, REVERSE-TURN TO THE RIGHT, APPLY THE BRAKES, PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, AND FINALLY DRIVE FORWARD ON THE DRIVEWAY UNTIL REACHING THE STREET. THIS MORNING, MY WIFE PLANNED TO GO TO THE STORE. SHE ENTERED THE VEHICLE, STARTED IT, PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT. AS USUAL, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR AND PUT IT IN DRIVE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THIS MORNING THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES A FEW MORE TIMES TO NO AVAIL. AFTER THAT DID NOT WORK, SHE APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHICH DID NOT DO ANYTHING EITHER. FINALLY, SHE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, WHICH DIDN'T DO ANYTHING EITHER. SHE ENDED UP DOING A U-TURN IN REVERSE. MY OTHER TRUCK WAS PARKED TO THE RIGHT OF WHERE THE FORD EXPLORER WAS PARKED, SO ONCE THE FORD EXPLORER REACHED MY PARKED TRUCK AND COLLIDED WITH IT, THE FORD EXPLORER FINALLY STOPPED. IN ADDITION TO MY WIFE, OUR TWO SONS AGED 6 AND 8, WERE INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITH HER WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WE HAVE ATTACHED A PHOTO OF THE FORD EXPLORER COLLIDED ONTO MY PARKED TRUCK (A FORD F150), WHICH IT HAD TO DO IN ORDER TO STOP AND NOT COLLIDE INTO ANYTHING OR ANYONE ELSE. THE MAIN REASON WE GOT A FORD EXPLORER IS BECAUSE WE BELIEVED IT WOULD BE A STURDY SUV THAT WOULD KEEP MY WIFE AND KIDS SAFE, SO THIS INCIDENT IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING. THE CAR IS ALMOST NEW WITH APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MILES AND WE HAVE HAD ALREADY HAD TO TAKE IT INTO THE REPAIR SHOP APPROXIMATELY EIGHT TIMES. WE HAVE ASKED FORD TO REPLACE IT, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN WILLING TO DO SO, WHICH IS WHY WE ARE ESCALATING THIS MATTER TO REGULATING AGENCIES FOR RESOLUTION AS WELL AS OUT OF CONCERN FOR OTHER FAMILIES WHO MAY HAVE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE.

DRIVING HOME UP A HILL WITH A NEWLY PURCHASED 2015 FORD EXPLORER MY WIFE AND I NOTICED A BAD SMELL LIKE EXHAUST FUMES; WE PUT THIS DOWN TO THE NEW ENGINE/EXHAUST BURNING OFF ANY FACTORY GREASE ETC. SUBSEQUENT TRIPS WITH ALL OF MY FAMILY IN THE SUV WE ALL EXPERIENCED A FOUL EXHAUST AND SULFUR SMELL WHEN GOING UP A HILL OR ACCELERATING ABOVE 3K RPM; THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN FRONT OF US TO BLAME FOR THE ODOR. WE HAVE TAKEN THE SUV TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES NOW AND THEY IN CONJUCTION WITH FORD TECHNICAL SUPPORT CANNOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE. THEY HAVE REPLACED/ INSTALLED: EGR VALVE COVER (TECH BULLETIN), BOTH EXHAUST DOWN PIPES, FRONT TRANSFER CASE. THE DEALER HAS NO TEST EQUIPMENT TO FIND THE PROBLEM OR CONFIRM WE ARE SMELLING ENGINE EXHAUST CONTAINING TOXIC GASES INCLUDING CO.

I AM GOING INTO THE 5TH MONTH OF LEASING MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER AND I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS VEHICLE. CURRENTLY THE ODOMETER READS 2,100 MILES AND THEY WERE NOT ENJOYABLE MILES. I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS 2015 EXPLORER HAS THE WORST DESIGN ON THE INSIDE THAT I'VE EVER SEEN. THE OUTWARD VISIBILITY FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT FOR THE FRONT AND REAR OF THIS VEHICLE IS SEVERELY COMPROMISED BY THE HUGE C PILLARS WHICH CREATE BLIND SPOTS WITHIN THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THIS MODEL HAS BLIS, I'VE ALMOST BEEN IN 2 COLLISIONS BECAUSE I CANNOT SEE MY RIGHT SIDE REAR OR LEFT SIDE REAR DUE TO THE FAULTY DESIGN OF THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE BLIS SYSTEM DID NOT WARN ME THAT THERE WAS A TRACTOR TRAILER APPROACHING ME ON THE LEFT SIDE. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER CANNOT REMEDY. THIS IS A FACTORY DESIGN FLAW THAT IS GOING TO GET SOMEONE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE THE DRIVER CAN'T SEE WHAT'S COMING. THE BLIS IS USELESS. NAVIGATING THROUGH TIGHT SPACES IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE THE FRONT END TO JUDGE YOUR DISTANCE BETWEEN VEHICLES/OBJECTS AND THE WIDE FRONT PILLARS ALSO ADD TO THE FRUSTRATION OF TRYING TO SEE WHAT'S ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE HEATING/AC SYSTEM JUST TURNS OFF AS WELL AS THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER LIGHTS AND THEN COMES BACK ON AFTER 10 - 15 SECONDS. THIS HAS OCCURRED A FEW TIMES. THERE IS A BURNING SMELL INSIDE THE VEHICLE UPON START UP. NOT SURE IF IT'S EXHAUST GAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE OR IF IT'S SOMETHING IN THE HEATER/AC SYSTEM. (I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND WILL DISSIPATE AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES). NOT THE ANSWER THAT I WANTED TO HEAR. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THE SENSATION OF NOT FEELING SAFE WHILE DRIVING MAKES FOR UNSAFE DRIVING. MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS IS OF MY UTMOST CONCERN. I AM RETURNING THIS SUV TO FORD. *TR
