I experienced two failures associated with other model years. The first was the right side A-pillar trim. It pulled free on the highway. I noticed it fly off and was able to recover the majority of it. It smashed on impact and there is a large piece missing. The remaining piece is available for inspection upon request. The A-pillar exterior trim flew off on a one-lane section of divided highway, there would have been no place for anyone to go if it flew back and there was a car behind me. This problem is a known issue I found out about on this (NHTSA) website. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, it flew off on the highway and has not been reported yet. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning at all that this was going to break loose. I also have an issue with the PTU. I was driving home from the airport and at a a stoplight, I noticed a ticking noise when I stopped at the exit of the parking lot. I noticed it again closer to home, after a fifty mile drive. When I stopped on the off ramp from the highway, I noticed smoke coming from under/behind my explorer. It smelled like antifreeze, but when I arrived home, and checked under the vehicle, I found black residue on the PTU and what looked like leaks from the axle seals that were not there for the last five months I've owned the vehicle. The vehicle smoked heavily when I stopped on the exit ramp, and when I went to accelerate into the traffic round-about, the vehicle lagged before moving, with an audible clunk and a lurch when it finally moved. Any reasonably hard acceleration produces a noise and will usually lag before moving. It may make a ticking noise when at idle cold, but is more pronounced the hotter the drivetrain gets. I had an OBD II scan done with no codes produced.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated while responding. The contact stated that after several attempts to depress the accelerator pedal, the vehicle responded as intended. The contact stated that a dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V692000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.

Transfer case replacement. Open recall on 2016 4x2 ford explorera for faulty transfer case but not recalled on 4x4 models. This is BS as the transfer case used for both models are the exact same. Should be covered under already open recall for transfer case.
I have already filed a complaint about the transmission issues of my vehicle a few months ago. Ford will not take credit and help me so we had to keep driving it. Hard shifting, slipping, losing reverse, losing power and jerking into gear. Now not only has it nearly killed us twice when we went to pull into traffic, it has jerked into gear and locked up throwing the car into a guardrail and causing an accident while my fiancée was driving it. I reported it was unsafe and no one did anything, now I have a wreck vehicle, fighting with insurance about the safety of it and it’s sitting at a body shop. We are all afraid to drive it. It nearly killed my family and no one cared to help us. Plus we have no vehicle to drive now. Thank you FORD for nearly killing my family and making us feel unimportant in every way possible. Plus NHTSA did nothing when I filed my first complaint!
My vehicles wrench sign would turn on do a little jerk then I would lose power to my car. Showed malfunction to power train. Took it to mechanic said there was a Crack in the valve gasket and they fixed that and changed spark plugs. A month later car did the same thing. Has done it a total for 4 times very scary when on a high way and it does it and I have to pull over with traffic coming. Took it to another mechanic and he couldn't figure it out either because there are no codes but said he seem something similar and I needed to change all my coils. So I did that. Thousands of dollars later and no one can still figure out the problem. I don't know if it's some safety issue with the engine or transmission. But 3 certified mechanics can not figure out why my car continues to lose power.

There has been an ongoing issue with my vehicle since it was last taken to service for a recall. The transmission has premature failure. I have had the entire vehicle powertrain fluids changed and nothing has helped. My boyfriend has been driving the vehicle and will not let me drive it anymore because it is unsafe. The transmission has torque converter issues. It has got stuck in second gear and when we went to pull out into traffic it would not move and we nearly got T-Boned. That happened while I was with him and I'm afraid to use it. He has to drive it to work because I have his vehicle and he wants me and my daughter to be safe. He says its downshifting hard when slowing down. It will downshift hard and loose power when trying to speed up on the interstate or while trying to get on the interstate. It shifts hard into reverse and is delayed shifting. Its lost power due to the transmission slipping. There has never been any check engine lights come on. Ford will do absolutely nothing about it. The vehicle has around 62,000 miles on it now and its gotten worse and is going to cause an accident or kill someone. I have called ford several times and they don't seem to care. They want me to go have it fixed and pay for it. I don't have that kind of money and I should not have to pay for there problem. Its a known issue I found out by searching online, even lawsuits. They need to recall these transmissions and fix the issue with them before someone is killed. If there hasn't already been deaths. Its unsafe. It has put me and my daughter at risk. Other drivers at risk and now with him having to drive it, his life is at risk everyday! Ford does not care about people or their family. They know they put a bad transmission in these vehicles and it cause premature wear. The transmission fluid is black, smells burnt and even metal shavings in it. Its a ticking bomb and its unfair they want me to pay for their mistakes!

Randomly whilst driving, my dash had multiple error messages pop up and my power steering went out completely. The error messages were as follows: Service AdvanceTrac, Terrain Management System Fault, Hill Start Assist Not Available, & Power Steering Assit Fault. This keeps happening intermittently, while I am driving. This causes a serious safety issue, for my steering wheel to lock up while I am driving! I did get the codes for the errors and they are as follows: U0420-41, C0051-67, U0151-00, U0131-00. My ABS system failed check, as well. This is a known issue with Ford vehicles, as there have already been recalls for previous models. According to [XXX]: "Ford has recalled earlier model year Explorers with power steering problems before. In 2014, Ford recalled certain model year 2011-2013 Ford Explorers, saying these vehicles “may experience an intermittent connection in the electric power steering gear, which can cause a loss of the motor position sensor signal resulting a shut down of the power steering assist.” According to Ford, this issue “may increase the risk of a accident.” In 2015, Ford recalled certain model year Ford Fusion, Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKS, Lincoln MKT, and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. According to Ford, these vehicles had “electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault.” As a result, “[i]f the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash”. My car started shaking while i stopped (like at a red light, stop or traffic) I had it diagnosed ($175) and was told it needed to have the transmission changed, my explorer was 6 yrs old with less than 50k miles. I have never hear of that happening as the car well kept. New transmission cost me $5585.40, it seems that every year this car has a new problem. I feel so ripped off this shouldn't happen on a $50k car.
The torque converter failed in my explorer while driving, making it act like it was in neutral. Luckily I was on a small road with little traffic, and able to pull over to a side street before my car was complete undrivable. If this happened on the highway or while turning, it probably would have cause a major issue or accident. NO warning lights on my dash and NO problem codes reported on OBD scanner tool. Ford has put out their own CSP for this issue a while ago and when I asked about it they told me it was expired. How can something they know is an issue expire? Dealership repair confirmed it was the torque converter and has to rebuild the transmission. I even found a service bulletin ford release about this problem, so they know about it.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while at a red light, the vehicle was shaking abnormally. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was drivable and was driven to a dealer. The dealer replaced the motor mounts and informed the contact that the torque converter and transmission needed to be replaced. While driving on the interstate my transmission decided to stop working. I was not able to safely get off the interstate because this happened going up an incline. My explorer will not shift into any gear and the cost to replace the transmission is $5300. Ford stated that the recall #20B27 was completed on my car in 2020 but when I called after the transmission died they stated that my VIN was not eligible for the #20B27 recall. So, how was it completed if they are now saying the recall wasn’t for my car? My explorer is a 2016/2.3L/6F35 Transmission code/built in Chicago. Ford needs to recall and replace every transmission in these explorers. With so many complaints and transmission failures/problems I’m floored that nothing has been done to remedy this situation that many explorer owners are experiencing. Do better Ford.

My car has 84000 miles on it. The car recently over heated, I checked the coolant level, and it was low. I filled it to the required level and the warning went away. 2 weeks later it came back, I brought it to the mechanic and was told that the engine needs to be replaced. That it is recycling exhaust from the engine back through the coolant system and that cylinder 3 is misfiring. I spent over an hour on the phone with Ford who repeatedly stiff armed me on any sort of assistance with the issue or information on expected or estimated failure rates for these issues. The car is currently at the mechanic where I have an estimate with a $12,000 price tag on it. To make this worse, in October of last year I was driving down [XXX] and when I went to exit the highway, there was a loud clunk and the car revved up real high before it started to move. This put me and all the drivers exiting this very busy off ramp in danger. At 74,000 miles I needed a new transmission because that loud clunk was me losing actual gears in the transmission. That repair cost right around $10,000 and again, Ford does not care. There were no warning lights with this issue, it just happened and left me in a very precarious predicament at a very busy intersection. The transmission has since been replaced for roughly a $10,000 price tag and now I am looking at another $12,000. All I want is Ford to do what is right. I could have been killed in that intersection or my car could have caught on fire recently with the engine issue. The financial strain of having to do 2 major repairs on a car that is relatively new and only had 74,000 for the transmission and 84,000 for the engine is unbelievable and unacceptable. Through research I feel that this transmission issue should be covered under an extension of the Customer Satisfaction Program #20B27 or #20N07 as the transmission issue fits the descriptions nearly perfectly. Built "Ford Tough" is apparently just a sales pitch. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S
I filed a complaint yesterday 5/4/24. The complaint number is #11586924. Yesterday I gave you the details of what happened with my transmission and when it happened. Today I want to give you the Manufacturer Comm. Number. From Ford Motor Co. the service number is SSM46069. It states that Ford knew there could be a problem with some 2015/2016 vehicles equipped with 6F50/6F55 transmissions built on 11/02/2015 and through 2/01 2016 may exhibit no reverse, 3rd and 5th gear. The service bulletin goes on to explain what would cause the transmission to fail and how to repair the damage. This tells me Ford should be responsible to the consumer. My safety concern is this; I was traveling at 30 - 35 mph when the tranny failed and , not knowing at the time, I lost 3rd, 5th and reverse gears. There was a noticeable decrease in my cars speed. At that speed, I was able to control my car and get stopped. Picture if I was on a 5 or 6 lane highway traveling at 60 - 65 mph and the tranny failed. The results could be deadly. I am sure I'm not the only owner that has had this safety issue. Kindly investigate this safety issue asap. Thank you.
I own a 2016 Ford Explorer. My Wife and I bought the car In Jan. 2016. On April 20th 2024, I was on my way to work when a warning came on the dash that said "check manual" and displayed an open end wrench. The car hesitated and then continued on. I was not far from the Ford Dealership where I bought the car so I went there. The service writer was working that day so I left the car at the dealership and called for a ride. On 4/23/24, the service writer called me and said the transmission was shot and would need to be replaced. My bill would be approx $5954.81.

I was driving and everything felt and looked normal. Out of the blue a pop noise, car was smoking. Had to have it towed. Mechanic said the transfer case blew like a grenade. It nicked my transmission as well. I was broke down in an intersection. No warning signs.
While traveling at highway speed (55mph), the transfer case "exploded" resulting in catastrophic failure and fluctuating power and impaired driveability. Defect has been confrimed by independent local repair center.
The transmission began slipping causing poor control at higher speeds using the cruise control or passing gear. Only about 42,000 miles on the vehicle and no financial help from Ford. Service for a new transmission was $7667.11at Dave Sinclair Ford, 7466 South Lindbergh, St. Louis Missouri, 63125. 314-892-2600
I was driving and stopped in the left turn lane and the car wouldn't move. Had to have the vehicle towed and now I have to replace the transmission on a car that has 72,000 miles on it. There was no advance notice that there was a problem. I have the vehicle serviced regularly.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that PCM needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.

In August 2023, my vehicle began to make a popping noise and began to lose power when attempting to accelerate. It was diagnosed by the repair shop as a turbo going bad. I repaired the turbo. In December 2023, the check engine light came on. The repair shop indicated that the lifters and cam shafts were bad and caused scoring to the engine block, requiring the engine to be replaced. The repair shop asked if I had been changing the oil regularly. I indicated that I did change the oil per when the vehicle would notify me it was time. The repair shop noted that I changed the oil every 10k miles. Per the repair shop, not changing the oil regularly (because the Ford vehicle system designed to tell me when to change the oil) ultimately caused me to need to replace the turbo and the engine. All because the oil was not changed more frequently 3-5k miles per the repair shop. I've spent $15k in repair costs since August 2023 because I was relying on the Ford vehicle's notifications as to when it needed oil. The vehicle is not even worth this much blue book. For a 8.5 year old vehicle that has been well cared for, I do not think these parts should have failed and I think Ford should have set the timing for oil change notifications more frequently if this is what is needed by the engine to keep it in good repair. It literally indicates the % of time before the oil needs to be changed.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the transmission started slipping. In addition, the vehicle was jerking abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and the contact was informed that the failure was due to transmission failure and the contact was informed that the repair had been completed; however, the contact was unaware of the diagnostic results. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred and became persistent. The contact stated that the failure had been ongoing since the purchase of the vehicle in 2017. The contact was informed after each failure that the vehicle had been repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The explorer started having issues with the heater not working when stopped. After some research it recommended that we check the coolant level. The coolant was low. Then we refilled it and then it happened again 3 weeks later and the coolant was low. This made us believe there was a coolant leak. After removing the bottom cover under the car it was saturated with coolant with drops coming from various areas on the passenger side. We took it to a mechanic and then transferred to a dealer and both confirmed it was the water pump. Ford negligently designed the water pump within the engine with the timing chain. If enough of the coolant mixes with oil it will cause the engine to seize and the car to shut off. I have two little kids that are in the car with me. This negligent placement can lead to cars seizing in unsafe areas. It was confirmed by a private mechanic and a ford dealer and there were no warning lights. Other than the heat not functioning properly there we no other signs or lights of water pump failure.
Several weeks ago we noticed a propane or natural gas smell in the vehicle' cab and around the vehicle. The smell was stronger sometimes and lesser others, but more so when the heater was on. In the very cold weather, I would have to dress in extra warm layers and keep the windows lowered with fresh air flowing through - in order to drive it... to keep the cab warm enough to drive with the heater on. The smell would be stronger when the heater/air was on. The smell would make me cough and gave me a headache. At first, we thought it was a bad batch of gas. Our mechanic couldn't say what it was and referred us to our local Ford dealer. I also researched on-line and found that several thousand U.S. customers have had the same problem [XXX] ; [XXX] ; [XXX] ). It looks from one article as if Ford settled a class action law suit on this issue in 2016, yet when I called the Ford Customer Service Help Line today, they said they cannot offer us any financial help for this repair, which is costing us over $3,100.00! The car is not that old! 2 days before we brought our vehicle to the Ford dealer, thick black liquid drained onto our garage floor under the front of the vehicle. The Ford dealer says the transfer case is going bad and spitting fluid on the vent/onto the exhaust and the smell was coming from that. The vehicle is still at the Ford dealer and repairs should be complete by 1/31/24. I am writing to you for help with this. It seems to me that Ford has already offered and should continue to offer some repair expense reimbursement for this apparently widespread problem! Can you help advocate for us in this? On December 17th of 2022, I was driving my car when it abruptly became sluggish and felt like it wasn’t shifting gears correctly. After coming to a stop, when I resumed driving, it sounded like the engine was getting gas, racing, but the car was hardly moving at all. Then it seemed like it would shift into gear suddenly and lurch forward. A warning light came on the dashboard stating there was a “powertrain fault.” I was less than a mile from my home at the time, so I limped home, parked in my garage, and then looked up the issue in my owner’s manual. It said to quit driving it and to get it to a Ford dealership. The car was not driven thereafter. I had it towed to the Ford dealership, who did not honor my extended warranty because it wasn't towed in until 4 days after its expiration, despite having the failure occur while it was under the extended warranty. According to them, they couldn't tell from any "black box" that it happened while under warranty. So I was stuck for $6,031.55 for the repair. I implored the dealership to at least help me out with the price, but they would not. I wrote to Ford and explained in detail the event, and I sent that letter to every department I could find within Ford that may be able to help me or pass my letter to someone who could help me. No one ever even bothered to reply. The $6,000 expenditure was hugely hurtful. I had to leave it with the dealer for almost 3 months before I could pay. And this was a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle with 53,000 miles on it. Maybe you can help? The repair bill was $6,031.55.

2016 Ford Explorer transmission failure while traveling at highway speeds, with less than 52,000 miles. Engine RPMs ramped up quickly and to unsafe levels as vehicle seemed to drop to a low gear, which then impacted vehicle speed and necessitate maneuvering multiple lanes of traffic to pull over to shoulder of road. Then had to limp along at very low speed to exit highway. Later testing at dealership generated two error codes, and suggested fix after initial diagnosis was tranny replacement, except the replacement tranny is on indefinite backorder through Ford. How issue will be addressed/corrected is still to be determined. A package of "kits" was best dealership could offer. There was no prior indication of an issue, no warning lights or other symptoms prior to failure.

The transmission on our vehicle has failed twice now. First in May 2019, at 41,000 miles, the transmission and torque converter failed, causing heavy shaking when idle. The repair was supposedly repaired under warranty by a Ford dealership. However, fast forward a few years and 40,000 miles, and the transmission failed again. In March 2023, my wife and daughter were at a busy intersection. My wife pressed the gas, but the car wouldn't move and began to lurch backward, putting my wife and daughter's lives in danger as well as the lives of anyone who came up behind us. Before this incident, we had also felt a violent shaking in idle that we had unsuccessfully tried to repair with a new motor mount. The transmission problem was diagnosed by police and confirmed by our local mechanic. It is now at another Ford dealership. But it is unclear how much Ford will cover. I want you to know, however, that a Ford dealer looked up my records on the first transmission repair that occurred under warranty. He said he was surprised that the Ford dealer that was supposed to do the initial warranty repair had only done a partial rebuild given the condition the transmission was in. The notes said the transmission was full of metal fragments and shards throughout, and he said that "they should overhauled the whole thing." The defect, combined with the shoddy repair, is likely why the transmission failed a 2nd time, putting my family's lives in danger. Transmission issues in Ford Explorers appear to be a known problem. I noticed on NHTSA's website that Ford has two customer satisfaction programs (20N07 and 20B27) related to Explorer transmissions. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10181988-0001.pdf I am hoping that NHTSA can look into these continuing Ford Explorer transmission issues and the botched warranty repair and get Ford to extend the customer satisfaction program or initiate a recall to refund customers' repair, tow and rental car costs. Thank you.

I just bought this vehicle and only had the chance to drive it for a few days now. I was told all recalls were repaired. I have not had the chance to bring it to a certified garage yet. The problem is when the vehicle is going at say walking speed like turning into a parking spot the whole vehicle is jumping to the point where I could have no control and jump into another vehicle or someone walking nearby. As the wheels are turned it's much worse. I believe it's the transfer case.
Water pump failed at 80,000 miles and cause the car to stall mid intersection putting out life at risk. This is a known issue that should be recalled . Not to mention the repair is $4,000-$6,000 mostly labor to fix. Whole motor has to be taken out to replace the water pump.

My 2016 Ford Explorer is in the dealership having the transmission repaired due to a recall that says there is an internal flaw in the design that has to be repaired. In removing the transmission, it was discovered that the transmission mount was cracked. I will have to personally pay for a new transmission mount according to Ford because that detail was not included in the specific recall. My contention is that the jerking and shuddering that happens every time I accelerate has caused the failure of the mount. I believe this is a reasonable explanation to a part of the drive train that is unaffected by normal driving. Bottom line is that the jerking and shuddering that was cause by the torque converter er.al, probably caused enough movement to crack the mount. Obviously the transmission doesnt move under normal circumstances.
Crossing busy intersection with children in vehicle, vehicle lunged and wrench symbol came on dash, and as crossing intersection vehicle wouldn't go more than 5mph, this could possibly cause a serious accident injury wife and child or possibly death, this vehicle had approximately 60000 miles.
Power Transfer Unit (PTU) exploded cracking the PTU case and Leaking out all gear oil which can be caused by PTU being too close to the exhaust and the PTU overheats from the exhaust heat breaking down the gear oil, this gear oil being over heated and that close to the exhaust could have caught on fire and if I have been on the highway at a high speed it would have caused the vehicle to lose all power going down the highway and in turn we could have been hit and killed due to the immediate loss of power SSM 47993 which has the year make and model of my car already listed on it as well as other ones listed by NHTSA however Ford consumer affairs refuse to do anything or offer any help even though they have acknowledged that there is problems with the PTU in multiple models. Is this truly worth someone's life as this can cause severe damage to the drive shaft when they explode with absolutely no warning or lights on the dash coming on or anything? All Ford Motors consumer affairs could say to me was ma'am your vin number is not listed on our end. My car is a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum AWD with 3.5L ecoboost with Twin Turbo, it only has 64,660 miles on it.
Transmission died with no warning at under 80k miles. The car lost its ability to accelerate while merging on the highway. Got off highway and to friends home. Car would not reverse and could not accelerate over 15mph. Had it towed to AAA repair shop. According to AAA repair shop a new Transmission is needed. This is unacceptable with only 80k miles, never received warning lights, and regular maintenance. 2016 Ford Explorer has know Transmission issues.

I felt a thumping when turning the steering wheel and took it to the dealership who kept it for two days to attempt to replicate the same noise but they were unable to reproduce or replicate. Two or maybe three months later, the thumping noise turned into a clicking noise. Again, I immediately took it to the Ford dealership and fortunately a mechanic was still on duty. They test drove the vehicle and heard the same noise. They ask if I could leave the vehicle for more testing with their suspension specialist and they will contact me the next day. The next day they contacted me and I was told 'this is a common problem and Ford is aware of issue but has not issued a recall'. Concerned about the comment I took it to a second Ford dealership. The second dealership kept it for a day and of course they could not replicate the thumping or clicking sound. They even inspected the steering/wheel components but found nothing. Worried, I did some additional research and found this website with other people complaining about the same issue https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Explorer/2016/steering/steering-rack_and_pinion.shtml I even found a few YouTube videos addressing the same problem. October is here and winter is about to set in and my vehicle is still thumping and clicking. I am driving the vehicle but concerned I am putting my safety and the safety of others at risk. Based on the information I found, it is clear that I am not the only one with this issue.

While driving would shudder when getting to approx. 60-65mph. No check engine light. Dealer stated could not diagnose if no check engine light on. This went on for 1.5 years. I kept taking back but still no light. March 2022 it started running really rough while sitting at a stop light, no power at take off. Took to the dealer who said it was covered , diagnosed it as Torque Converter, and pump waited 4 weeks to get parts after being told twice covered 100% but then found out not covered as when it was there previously they did not do the Customer Satisfaction Program 20N07 where PCM reflash was required. Now Ford corp and dealer say they are not covering this. Why did the dealer not advise of this while there before this program expired.

I was driving along in town and heard a real loud pop sound and the car jerked. The front started smoking heavily. I get off to the nearest parking lot and fluids had spewed underneath and there was a small fire from this that went out. I had two children both in child restraints that had to be removed from the vehicle, thankfully my husband was with me. It was towed to two repair shops whom both stated the PTU had exploded and broke the transmission as well. I tried to get assistance through Ford and have hit a dead end. It is at the local dealership where they claim the ptu exploded, broke transmission and cracked the engine block resulting in close to $14,000 dollars needed in repairs. Water pump has failed. Causing the engine to shutter and stop running normally. This happened on the highway with kids on board. Water pump is internally and cost of repairs are more expensive than what is fair for a consumer. No one should pay for that, it’s misleading at least. If they were to warn that a regular wear an tear part would causes thousands. No one would buy Ford. The responsibility should be Ford and not the consumer

The Power transfer unit is leaking fluid onto the exhaust and it caught on fire as I pulled into my driveway. I was able to extinguish the fire before any damage was done. There is also a nauseous odor in the cabin of the vehicle that makes me sick, burns my eyes every time I drive my vehicle. I was told by a mechanic that this was the fluid from the PTU burning Did some research and discovered this is a common problem with these PTU's leaking fluid. Very concerned now that it will catch on fire again and cause damage or even a wreak if it locks up. I fear that this could harm me or someone else if this problem is not fixed ASAP. I have no other vehicle and not sure how to even get it fixed. The dealership said it would cost around $2000 to have it fixed. I would like someone to look at this issue, Ford advised that is not there problem and its not covered by any recalls. There is no way of knowing if it catches on fire going down the road until its actually on fire.
Transmission failure, not shifting consistently, multiple times would not shift out of second gear after down shifting during driving. This is dangerous when merging into higher speeds where acceleration is needed, such as on highway. Took Vehicle to Ford dealership twice while under power train warranty and they stated they could not replicate the concern. They reset adaptive learning transmission, because they said shifting was likely due to different driving styles between husband and wife. Now 6 months later, issue continues and they admit it is a faulty transmission, but is no longer under warranty.
Vehicle power stalled on acceleration after pulling onto lane of travel. Road traffic heavy in both directions. Vehicle would not shift beyond initial gear of automatic transmission. Available travel speed of 40-45 mph only. Wrench light/powertrain light came on. No prior warning lights. No prior operational issues detected. After stopping vehicle, would not operate in reverse. Warning light indicator and manual reported to get to dealer asap. Dealer indicated transmission issue. Transmission was replaced. Vehicle had 56,418 miles (within 60,000 warranty) but beyond 5 year warranty.
The vehicle surges when drive at low speeds, I have to keep my foot on the brake so it don't take off or hit something in front of me. About a month ago the surging almost made me hit a child in the roadway in front of my house. I am really uncomfortable driving the vehicle and don't feel its safe to drive due to this problem. Ford dealership is not giving any info on what tis problem could be. I found several problems on here related to this issue.
2016 Ford Explorer 3.5 Liter (non-turbo) front wheel drive, automatic, 44k miles. Loss of power, vehicle jerked and stayed in one gear. We limped the car home and let it cool down. After the car cooled down, we went on small test drive and confirmed it was shifting erratically. We took the car to the dealer and they confirmed a component in the transmission had failed, disabling the vehicle. Over $3,000 worth of transmission repairs were made under warranty.
Was driving on I-40 at approximately 75mph and vehicle lost all acceleration, wrench icon came on in dash. Pressed. Gas pedal to the floor, no acceleration. Had to pull over on side of road. Pulled over vehicle stared shaken. Cut off vehicle for about 1min. Tried to retest vehicle, vehicle did not want to restart/crank. Tried again vehicle stared up. Vehicle power is not the same. Thank God I was on the right side of the highway instead of the middle so I could get off the road. This could have been worse.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while yielding to merge onto the highway, the vehicle would not accelerate above 3 mph, with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with transmission failure. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the Vin for the transmission. The failure mileage was 104,000.

Our Ford Explorer lost power in the rear gear position. It also had trouble shifting from certain gears to the next. We took it into the shop when we lost full reverse. The transmission transfer case had blew out a piece of the casing. This left a gaping hole in the case, exposing a gear in the transfer case. This also allowed fluid to drain from transmission. The mechanic said this should never happen on a 76,803 mile car, let alone on a part such as the transmission. This was the second one her did in a two week period. This not only put our family out of a car, it posed a huge safety concerning not being able to move the vehicle. I would hate for this to happen to any owner who is not automotive educated. I was luck I was driving and could get us to move.
The transmission is constantly slipping. While driving up or down any steeper grades, the RPMs are so high we have to adjust speed to get the transmission to shift properly as to not blow the engine. The suv surges and shifts hard while going only 15 to 20 mph on regular pavement. This has all been happening since we purchased the vehicle (in 2018 @ 27,000 miles). We took in right away and they did replace the transfer case. Since then we’ve taken it to two different Ford dealerships in the area and they state there is nothing wrong. We were told ‘sorry it’s not like we can drive it up a hill to see what the issue is and it’s just not bad enough to warrant replacing the transmission at this time’ We’ve had to swerve to the side of the highway to avoid rear end collisions due to poor shifting and reduced speeds. It’s not trustworthy to travel and at our first chance we’re dumping it for a Chevy. Ford knows there’s an issue with their transmissions, but they push you off until you’re outside of your warranty to tell you to replace the transmission. We helped our elderly mom purchase a Ford and her transmission went out with the same issues and she had to purchase another vehicle as well due to being put off outside of her warranty (by three days - WOW Ford!). ‘It’s not bad enough’ - we’ll it’s not going to get better!!

I TOOK MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT ON DEC 29TH 2020 TO GET A OIL CHANGE ETC. THEY HAD THE VEHICLE ALL DAY EVEN THOUGH I TOOK IT IN AT 7AM. I PICK IT UP A 4:45 PM THEN DRIVE IT HOME BECAUSE I WORK FROM HOME I DID NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL SATURDAY JAN 9TH 2021, WHILE DRIVING IT THAT MORNING I REALIZED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO STEER AND THE TRUCK WOULD MAKE NOISES WHEN I TURN THE STEERING IN EITHER DIRECTION. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT MORNING AND ASKED THE SERVICE CONSULTANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. HE TOLD ME WHILE MY FATHER WAS ON THE PHONE THAT HE BELIEVES IT THE RACK AND PINION AND HE CAN'T TAKE IT BECAUSE THEY ARE BUSY AND IT'S OKAY FOR ME TO DRIVE IT. I ALSO TOLD HIM AT THAT TIME I AM SUPPOSED TO DRIVE OUT OF TOWN AND I WON'T BE BACK FOR AWHILE SO IF THERE IS A PROBLEM I RATHER LEAVE IT SO IT CAN BE FIXED. I HAVE DAMAGED ON MY C5 VERTEBRAE SO I CAN FEEL THE HARDNESS IN THE STEERING. HE ASSURED OR DISMISSED ME BUT HE SAID IT'S FINE. A FEW HOURS LATER THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED UP AND THE DASHBOARD STARTED MAKING NOISE AND THE WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES STARTED TO DISPLAYING. IT ALMOST KILLED BOTH MY MOTHER AND I ON THE HIGHWAY. IF YOU KNOW NYC HIGHWAY YOU KNOW THERE IS NO SHOULDERS. WHEN I PULLED OF THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT MOVE IT. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE TRUCK TO BE TOWED AND A UBER FOR MYSELF BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN PAID FOR ME TO GET HOME. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY $2719.81 FOR THE RACK AND PINION REPAIR AND THE ALSO PAY FOR THE STRUT BEARING TO BE REPAIRED WHICH THEY HAVEN'T GIVEN ME THE PRICE FOR IT BECAUSE "IT WAS TOO MUCH TO GIVE ME BOTH PRICE AT ONCE." OH BY THE WAY, THIS IS THE SAME SERVICE CONSULTANT THAT TOLD ME IT WAS FINE FOR ME TO DRIVE AND ALMOST KILLED 2 GENERATION OF MY FAMILY AT THE SAME TIME. I AM PISSED!! NOW I SEE OTHER CUSTOMERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ON THERE SUV!!

WHENEVER PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE THERE WILL BE A LOUD POP AND WILL SLAM INTO GEAR. SIMILARLY WILL HAPPEN WHEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THEN WHEN CHANGING GEARS FROM SECOND TO THIRD THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE SWITCHING GEARS AND THE RPM WILL GO INTO THE 5000 RPM. WILL HAPPEN USUALLY WHEN SHIFTING AGAIN INTO A HIGHER GEAR. USUALLY CAN DRIVE AROUND FIVE TO TEN MILES AND WILL SORT ITSELF OUT. HOWEVER IF YOU ARE ENTERING TRAFFIC ESPECIALLY A BUSY ROAD SYSTEM THIS MAY NOT ALLOW YOU TO ACCELERATE TO A SAFE SPEED SINCE THE GEARS NOT SHIFTING WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL AND NOT ACCELERATE.

MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE POWER TRAIN. NOW I'VE BEEN OUT OF A CAR FOR 2 WEEKS BECAUSE I MIGHT NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 65,000 NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. HOW CAN I PAY $38,000 AND IT GOES BAD INSTANTLY? NO HELP FROM FORD OR DEALER. MY GEARS ARE STALLING AND NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY OR PICKING UP SPEED. I DRIVE LIKE AN OLD LADY AND TAKE CARE OF THIS CAR LIKE IT'S BRAND NEW. I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN AND WILL TELL ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN NOT TO DO THE SAME.

THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE DAY ONE AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SOLD I FEEL THIS TRUCK IS NOT RELIABLE AND UNSAFE AT TIMES. NOT WORTH THE 26000 I PAID FOR IT. PLUS THE SENSORS GO OFF FOR NO REASON AND NOTHING IS AROUND.
THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED WITH A WEIRD NOISE, SLOW ACCELERATION DESPITE A RACING ENGINE AND THEN TOTAL FAILURE. THE EXPLORER ONLY HAS ABOUT 60,000 MILES.

IT WILL LOSE SPEED WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE AND WILL STALL FOR THE FIRST MINUTE OR SO BEFORE RESUMING BACK TO NORMALS I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY AS IT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL. ADDITIONALLY, AFTER STALLING I WILL GET THE WRENCH SYMBOL ON MY DASH.

OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT LOST POWER GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL RIGHT BEFORE OUR HOUSE AND BARELY MADE IT HOME. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ARRANGED TO BRING IT THE FOLLOWING MORNING. THE DRIVETRAIN IS UNDER WARRANTY FOR 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. OUR VEHICLE IS 4 YEARS OLD WITH SLIGHTLY OVER 60,000 MILES AND WE ALSO PURCHASED THE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY FOR 100,000 MILES. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR OF A TRANSMISSION TEAR DOWN WHICH TAKES 18 HRS AND $2,000 IN LABOR BEFORE WE CAN FIND OUT IF THE WARRANTY WILL COVER THE ISSUE. WE HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE HEATED/COOLED SEATS, THE AIR BAGS, THE PARKING ASSIST, AND STEERING. WE DID NOT SPEND ALL THIS MONEY FOR A NEWER VEHICLE(WAS 2 YRS OLD WHEN PURCHASED) JUST TO HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES THAT WILL END UP COSTING US A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY. THIS IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE THAT WE DRIVE OUR 3 KIDS AROUND IN. WE SPENT THE EXTRA MONEY TO HAVE SOMETHING RELIABLE AND SAFE THAT WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO SINK MONEY INTO REPAIRS AND ALSO PURCHASED THE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT AY REPAIRS. WITH THE AMOUNT OF MONEY WE HAVE SPENT ON THE VEHICLE, WE WERE NOT EXPECTING A BIG OUT OF POCKET COST, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAVE THE WARRANTY. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE VEHICLE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WE HAVE RECEIVED AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD IF THIS IS THE REPUTATION THEY ALLOW THEMSELVES TO HAVE.

MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 91,000 MILES ON IT. HOWEVER, FOR THE LAST 45,000 MILES, I HAVE NOTICED A JERKING IN THE TRANSMISSION ONCE I REACH ABOVE 40MPH. MY MOTHER HAS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER AND HAD THE SAME ISSUES. SHE HAD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO SHE WAS ABLE TO HAVE HERS FIXED BUT HAD TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE A WARRANTY FIX... THIS SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURER FIX AND RECALL. MY MOM WAS TOLD BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT FIXED HER CAR THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH DEALING WITH THE TRANSMISSION. SHE WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IF THE ISSUE IS NOT FIXED ON YOUR VEHICLE, IT COULD CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT AT ANY TIME . THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN,. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN IN MY VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES, TWO OF THEM BEING UNDER THE AGE OF 3. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY VEHICLE AND DO NOT FEEL THAT FORD IS DOING THEIR JOB TO ENSURE THAT RECALLS ARE BEING DONE PROPERLY. I SAW 7 RECALLS FOR FORD EXPLORES FOR YEAR 2016 BUT WHEN I SEARCHED MY VIN... NOTHING CAME UP... WHY IS THAT?

THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT WHEN DRIVING AT AN INCLINE. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE WAS LEVEL THERE WERE NO OVERHEATING ISSUES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING DUE TO THE GRILL SHUTTERS BEING STUCK CLOSED AND AS A RESULT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND NEEDED A PARTIAL REBUILD. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ELIGIBLE FOR CERTAIN REPAIRS UNDER THE WARRANTY, MILEAGE 58,120, SO FORD COVERED THE PARTIAL TRANSMISSION REBUILD AS THEY DETERMINED WAS FIT. THE GRILL SHUTTERS MALFUNCTIONING AND BEING STUCK CLOSED WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE MALFUNCTION WAS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND OVERHEATING OF THE VEHICLE. REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED IN MAY 2019. IN NOVEMBER 2019 AND APPROX. 2K MILES OUT OF WARRANTY AND JUST SLIGHTLY 2K MORE MILES SINCE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILD AND GRILL SHUTTER REPLACEMENT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AGAIN. THE OVERHEATING WOULD OCCUR CONSISTENTLY WHEN SITTING IDLE OR IN MOTION ON STREETS AND ON HIGHWAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AGAIN FOR DIAGNOSIS. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HEAD GASKET WAS BLOWN WHICH WAS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. FORD ADVISED THAT DUE TO THE GRILL SHUTTERS BEING STUCK CLOSED THAT ULTIMATELY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND THE HEAD GASKET BEING BLOWN. THE MALFUNCTIONING GRILL SHUTTERS ARE A MAJOR ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE FIXED ON FORDS BEHALF SO THAT ADDITIONAL ENGINE DAMAGE DOESN'T OCCUR. FORD IS NOW NOT COVERING THE HEAD GASKET BEING BLOWN/OVERALL ENGINE DAMAGE EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS ULTIMATELY CAUSED BY THE MALFUNCTIONING GRILL SHUTTERS. THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE WITHOUT OVERHEATING AND THE OVERHEATING COULD CAUSE A FIRE WHICH COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND IN SOME CASES, FATAL.

OUT NO WERE FELT LIKE A JOLTING; SUDDEN STALLING; SUDDEN DECELERATION; SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUT THE SUV IN PARK. ATTEMPTED A RESTART, IT WORK. DURING THIS INCIDENT, THE DASHBOARD WAS DISPLAYING AND MESSAGE "SEE MANUALS, WITH A BIG WRENCH". THE MANUALS TELLS YOU TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR SERVICE. THIS HAS CONTINUE TO HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THE INCIDENT IN THE TURNPIKE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW, AN HAS ALWAYS BEING SERVICE IN THE FORD DEALER. CALL THE FORD DEALER AN I WAS INFORMED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT SO THEY CAN PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE COMPUTER TO DIAGNOSTIC. BUT SINCE THE WARRANTY ALREADY EXPIRED THAT I MAY HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. DID SOME RESEARCH ON TH ISSUE, AN IT SEEN THAT THIS HAS HAPPEN TO MANY OWNER OF A FORD EXPLORER 2016. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH A RECALL.

THE ACCELERATOR BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE AND MY VEHICLE'S RPM DROPS, REGARDLESS IF I AM PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. MOST NOTABLY OCCURS WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, BUT HAS HAPPENED DRIVING WITHIN CITY LIMITS. I HAVE TO PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL AND WAIT FOR THE VEHICLE TO EVENTUALLY PICK UP SPEED OR SHIFT GEAR TO NEUTRAL TO DRIVE TO BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE WHEN PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO THE VEHICLE GOING LIMP MODE, ESPECIALLY ON A FREEWAY. THIS HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY 2-3 TIMES IN A 1 HOUR DRIVING PERIOD. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED THE VEHICLE WRENCH LIGHT WHEN ON AND MY VEHICLE WAS JOLTING WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT AWAY. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING SEEN BY A TECHNICIAN; HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN IS HAVING A HARD TIME DUPLICATING THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. I TRIED TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP PREVIOUSLY FOR THE SAME ISSUE, HOWEVER THEY TURNED ME DOWN DUE TO IT BEING AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE.

WITH NO WARNING - EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ALSO THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WITH A MESSAGE THAT SAID "SEE MANUAL." I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFICE AND PULL OVER. AFTER TEN MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK OFF. FROM THERE IT DROVE BEAUTIFULLY LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED - EXCEPT THAT IT DID ! FOUR DAYS LATER, I TAKE IT TO THE DEALORSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THAT THIS HAPPENED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED AND IT'S GOING TO COST ME $380. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WITH THE SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS AT THE DEALORSHIP WHEN THEY SOLD ME THE CAR. AND ALSO THAT FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THIS YET CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. I HAVE TO HAVE THIS FIXED, I HAVE NO CHOICE. I WOULD DEFINITLY LIKE TO REUMBERSED FOR THIS REPAIR. BUT IN ADDITION TO THE OUT OF POCKET COST, THE POWER GOING OUT ON THE CAR WHILE DRIVING IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. WITH THE SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE WITH THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE MODEL / YEAR , I HOPE THAT SOMEBODY DOESN'T HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY PLACE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE.

PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED ON JUNE 3, 2016 WITH ABOUT 10,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 PAST PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT ABOUT 9:30 AM AT ABOUT 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN FROM A COLD START FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. IT WAS RAINING MODERATELY. THE BACKUP CAMERA SUDDENLY APPEARED ON THE SCREEN IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD DRIVE INDICATOR, WHICH NORMALLY IS LIT RED WHEN IN DRIVE, WAS WHITE, AS WERE ALL THE OTHER INDICATORS (R, N, ETC). I JIGGLED THE SHIFTER WITHOUT PRESSING THE SHIFTER BUTTON BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO BE STILL IN DRIVE SINCE THE CAR STILL HAD POWER AND WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS AND THEN THE DISPLAY RETURNED TO NORMAL AND THE D INDICATOR RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL RED MODE. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND STAYED FOR 10 TO 15 SECONDS AND THEN AGAIN REVERTED BACK TO NORMAL. THIS BEHAVIOR REPEATED ONE OR TWO MORE TIMES IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MINUTES. AFTER THIS SERIES OF EVENTS THE CAR SEEMED TO BE NORMAL FOR THE REST OF MY 1.5 HOUR TRIP AND HAS BEEN FINE UNTIL AUG 13, 2016 WHEN THE SAME BEHAVIOR HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM IF IT GETS WORSE IF FOR NOTHING ELSE THAN IT IS CERTAINLY A DISTRACTION AND MAY RESULT IN TRANSMISSION DAMAGE AND LOSS OF CONTROL. I DID TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY FORD DEALER (SHERIDAN FORD, RT 2 KIRKWOOD HIGHWAY, WILMINGTON DE) ON JULY 21, 2016 WHEN I WAS GETTING AN OIL CHANGE AND I DESCRIBED THE FIRST INCIDENT. HE DID NOT SEEM VERY CONCERNED. HE SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING BUT DID NOT HAVE ME WRITE ANYTHING DOWN. I TOLD HIM THAT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, I WOULD CONTACT FORD AND THE DEALER. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED 12 MORE TIMES. I HAVE TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT IT EVERY TIME. I HAVE FURTHER TEXT DOCUMENTATION.

WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT ~78 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO SHIFT INTO A LOW GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY DECELERATE AND THE ENGINE TO REV TO MATCH THE SET SPEED. AFTER STOPPING AND TALKING WITH MY DEALER HE RECOMMENDED TO CONTINUE AS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS APPEARED ON THE CAR. I CONTINUED ON THE ROAD AT A MUCH REDUCED SPEED. AFTER A SHORT DISTANCE THE VEHICLE AGAIN SELF SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR WITH THE ENGINE RPM'S SHOWING APPROXIMATELY 3000 AT ABOUT 55 MPH. DEALER IS INSTALLING A NEW TRANSMISSION BUT CAN NOT IDENTIFY WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT GEARS ON ITS OWN.

I RECEIVED A "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT" ALERT WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, AND IMMEDIATELY HAD A LOSS OF POWER AND VERY SLOW ACCELERATION AFTER STOPPING. UPON REACHING MY HOME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE UP A SMALL INCLINE IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" CAME ON AND THERE IS NOW A LOUD METALLIC CLANG WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 13, 655 MILES ON IT. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY WILL HAVE A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER IN THE MORNING FOR TESTING..

SAME ISSUE AS NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11042260. AT 7,000 MILES WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES INTO REVERSE WE HEAR A LOUD THUMPING SOUND AS THOUGH YOU RAN OVER SOMETHING. THIS IS HAPPENS MORE WHEN REVERSING WITH A TURN THAN STRAIGHT BUT SELDOM WHILE BACKING STRAIGHT OUT AS WELL. AT 7,500 MILE SERVICE THE ISSUE WAS BOUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP, THE TECH DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY RDU (REAR DRIVE UNIT) WHICH WAS PLACED ON ORDER. THE DEALER HAS NOT YET RESPONDED TO THE STATUS OF THE PART WHICH HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH! YET THE DEALERSHIP ASKED US WHY WE RATED THE UNSATISFACTORY! AT THIS POINT IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS WOULD SOLVED THE PROBLEM AS THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS NOT YET BEEN INSTALLED.

WHEN KEEPING A STEADY SPEED, RPMS FLUCTUATE UP AND DOWN CAUSING A JERKY MOVEMENT WHILE DRIVING. HAPPENS RANDOMLY OR AFTER IDLING FOR A FEW MINUTES. ALSO, POWER DECREASES DURING THIS EVENT, SO WHEN TAKING OFF, CAR DOESN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE, THEN LURCHES FORWARD. ALSO, WHEN ACCELERATING, PARTICULARLY UPHILL, A BURNING SMELL COMES FROM THE VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A CITY STREET I LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE. I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND GET PUSHED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR TO DRIVE HOME. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS ON A 600+ MILE TRIP OUT OF STATE. I WAS DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION. THERE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT FIT ME IN T LOOK AT IT. I DROVE THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I RETURNED HOME. THE THIRD AND FOURTH TIME I WAS 150 MILES FROM HOME. I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. THE ISSUE ALSO HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT THEN ATTEMPTED TO PROCEED INTO TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE 4 TIMES WITHOUT THE "NONCONFORMITY" BEING RESOLVED. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR SERVICE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE GREATER THAN 15 DAYS. CARFAX INDICATE THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPAIRED A MONTH BEFORE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THAT INFORMATION WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE BY THE DEALERSHIP.

WHEN I PLACE MY EXPLORER IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARK, WHEN I AM ABOUT HALF WAY OUT OF THE PARK, THERE'S A LOUD "BUMP". I AUTOMATICALLY SLAM ON BRAKES BECAUSE I THINK I HAVE RAN OVER SOMEONE. RECENTLY, I PLACED MY EXPLORER IN DRIVE SO THAT I COULD PULL OUT OF THE GARAGE AND I HEARD THE LOUD "BUMP". I HAVE TAKEN MY EXPLORER TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. FORD FINALLY OFFERED A 100K MILE WARRANTY BUT THAT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT WAS GREAT UNTIL I HIT 17,680 MILES. TRANSMISSION WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. ENGINE/WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH AND I BASICALLY CRAWLED TO THE DEALERSHIP. VERY SCARY WHEN STOPPED, PUT THE PEDAL TO FLOOR AND WOULD BARELY MOVE. AFTER A FEW DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT APPEARED TO BE THE CLUTCH AND THEY REPLACED IT. GOT IT BACK AND TWO DAYS LATER, IT DID IT AGAIN. DROVE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD IT FOR A DAY, BUT COULDN'T GET IT TO DO IT, SO I GOT IT BACK. TWO DAYS LATER, IT HAPPENED ONCE AGAIN. DEALERSHIP SAID IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, DRIVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DON'T TURN IT OFF. A TECH WENT FOR A RIDE WITH ME AND WAS ABLE TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. WHEN WERE DRIVING BACK, LIGHTS ON DASH WENT OFF AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. THE TECH SAID NOT TO WORRY, THEY'D BE ABLE TO GET A CODE EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WENT OFF. SO I'M ON MY 3RD RENTAL AND WAITING TO HEAR WHAT WILL BE DONE. LUCKILY I LEASED MY EXPLORER AND EVERYTHING IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY ADVICE IS STAY FAR AWAY FROM ANY FORD PRODUCT WITH THIS TRANSMISSION! IT'S DANGEROUS AND COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE.

ON 6/28/2016 THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A LOSS OF CONTROL ACCIDENT DUE TO DRIVER BECOMING UNCONSCIOUS. THE DRIVER AND ALL PASSENGERS BECAME UNCONSCIOUS NEARLY SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE ORIGINAL ASSUMPTION WAS THAT THE DRIVER FELL ASLEEP, ALTHOUGH SHE DID NOT REMEMBER FEELING DROWSY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON I-85, MP 18 NORTH OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. SINCE SEEING THE REPORT TODAY ABOUT POSSIBLE CO LEAKAGE INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN ON THE FORD EXPLORER VEHICLES, I WOULD NOW SUSPECT THIS AS A POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN THIS ACCIDENT...UPDATED 08/07/17 *BF *CN

THROTTLE BODY HAS FAILED TWICE. FIRST TIME AT 7275 ODOMETER; SECOND OCCURRED AT A BIT OVER 16,000 MILES. FAILURE OF THIS PART RESULTS IN NO THROTTLE RESPONSE TO THE ENGINE AND A MAXIMUM OF ABOUT 10MPH SPEED. LUCKILY, BOTH TIMES, I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE OR OTHER HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY. BOTH INSTANCES WERE IN MOTION AT 35-45 MPH. THE ONLY WAY TO CLEAR THE PROBLEM IS TO SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND WAIT FOR 1-5 MINUTES; THEN BE PREPARED FOR NO THROTTLE RESPONSE WITHIN A FEW MILES.

THE TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUGS WERE LOOSE. THE VEHICLE HAS 5064 MILES. I HAD BEEN NOTICING AN ODOR AND THOUGHT I HAD A COOLANT LEAK. BUT THE SMELL WAS NOT "SWEET" ENOUGH. I CRAWLED UNDER THE CAR AFTER A 700 MILE TRIP BECAUSE THE ORDER WAS VERY PREVALENT. I NOTICE TRANSMISSION FLUID ON ONE OF THE TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUGS. THERE WAS A PLUME OF TRANSMISSION FLUID GOING FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE BACK OF THE CAR. SOME OF THE FLUID HAD CONTACTED THE EXHAUST COMPONENTS. I CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL ( FLAT SURFACE, ENGINE HOT AND RUNNING) AND THE FLUID DID NOT EVEN CONTACT THE DIP STICK. I THEN WENT TO SEE IF THE PLUG(S) WAS LOOSE. IT IS A 11MM. I WAS ABLE TO GET 2.5 TURNS ON THE PLUG USING JUST MY FINGERS. ON THE SECOND PLUG I WAS ABLE TO GET 1 FULL TURN WITH JUST MY FINGERS. THE 1ST PLUG ONLY HAD ABOUT 3 THREADS ENGAGED. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF OTHER VEHICLES HAVE THIS CONDITION, A FIRE OR COMPLETE LOSE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID COULD OCCUR. IF A PLUG FALLS OUT WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR.

WHEN DRIVING AT 65MPH ON INTERSTATE 287 THE CAR DID A SLIGHT JOLT AND THEN LOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES STILL WORKED, BUT THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR AN EXIT SO I COASTED TO A HALT OFF THE INTERSTATE. I RESTARTED THE CAR, IT DROVE AT NO MORE THAN 5MPH TO A SAFER SPOT. AFTER SOMETIME WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK I RESTARTED THE CAR, IT WORKED THIS TIME BUT WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I DROVE SLOWLY AND ON COUNTY ROADS, BACK HOME. NOW IN DEALER TO BE FIXED. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE EXAMPLES OF THIS PROBLEM ON THIS WEBSITE AND GENERALLY. THERE IS A CLEARLY A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE ENGINES AND IT NEEDS ADDRESSING AT A WIDER LEVEL THAN SIMPLY EACH CONSUMER. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A MAJOR CITY ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT RUSH HOUR, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE DASH ILLUMINATED A WRENCH (POWERTRAIN FAULT) AND CHECK OWNERS MANUAL. WE DECELERATED IN TRAFFIC DOWN TO ABOUT 5 MPH. WE WERE EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS HURT AS WE TRIED TO MAKE OUR WAY TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER FROM THE LEFT LANE (THERE WAS INADEQUATE SHOULDER ON THE LEFT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED). NO QUESTION IN OUR MIND THAT THIS IS LIFE THREATENING! WE FEEL FORTUNATE WE WERE NEAR AN EXIT, SO WE LIMPED ALONG AT 5 MPH TO A GAS STATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND NEXT DAY VERIFIED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER CHANGED THIS PART OUT AND WE FORTUNATELY HAVE NOT HAD A RECURRENCE. MILEAGE AT FAILURE WAS 9456. ONE WOULD NOT EXPECT A THROTTLE BODY TO FAIL, ESPECIALLY AT LOW MILEAGE. I COULD ONLY THROW ON MY FLASHERS AND CRINGE AS THE CARS PILED UP BEHIND ME, HOPING NO ONE WOULD HIT ME. WE COASTED AT LEAST HALF A MILE BEFORE FINDING A PLACE TO SAFLEY EXIT THE ROAD. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY WOUD NOT AUTHORIZE PAYMENT TO TOW MY VECHILE BACK HOME, AND I HAD TO WAIT 45 MINUTES FOR ASSISTANCE TO ARRIVE. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED AND SADDENED TO THINK WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD CHOOSE TO TAKE THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD. I COULD ONLY CLUTCH THE STEERING WHEEL AS I WATCHED MY SPEEDOMETER DROP FROM 58 TO 20 SOMETHING IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. I HAD CHILDREN SITTING IN THE 3RD ROW AND WAS CONCERNED THAT SOMEONE WOULD RUN INTO ME DUE TO MY SUDDEN DECLINE IN SPEED. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN. WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL? I MADE IT SAFELY, BUT NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO SUFER INJURY OR LOSS BEFORE FORD TAKES THIS SERIOUSLY.

VEHICLE SLOWED WAY DOWN AND I FELT A JERK/LURCH. MAY HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND BUT THE OTHER VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. ENGINE WAS STILL ON AND THE WRENCH INDICATOR CAME ON AND A MESSAGE APPEARED "SEE MANUAL" OR "SEE DEALER", I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH.TRIED ACCELERATING AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT INCREASE SPEED. THE VEHICLE MOVED VERY SLOWLY, MAYBE 5MPH? LUCKILY I WAS ON AN OVERPASS, IN THE RIGHT LANE, AND GOING DOWN THE OVERPASS TO GET THE VEHICLE INTO A HOTEL DRIVEWAY THAT WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OVERPASS. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALER. READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND AGREE THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF REPORTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. FORD DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, REPLACED THROTTLE BODY, THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE AND THE ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. THEY REPLACED THE PART AT NO COST, BUT I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THEY ACTUALLY KNOW THE ISSUE OR IF THIS WILL HAPPEN OVER AND OVER. BASED ON THE OTHER REPORTS I HAVE SEEN THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS AROUND 7000 MILES. I CALLED DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT TOWED TO THERE TODAY.

MY PREGNANT WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY, MAIN NASHVILLE ROAD YESTERDAY WHEN OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER WITH 8500 MILES ON IT CEASED TO ACCELERATE. A WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, RPMS DROPPED TO AN IDLE STATE, AND IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I COULD NOT ACCELERATE IN ORDER TO MOVE MY CAR OFF THE ROAD, NEARLY CAUSING AN WRECK. FORD HAS HAD MY CAR FOR TWO DAYS. THIS ISSUE IS APPARENTLY RELATED TO A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH SIMILAR LOW MILEAGE 2016 EXPLORERS AND THAT FORD HAS DETERMINED IT TO BE A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT SO MANY VEHICLES HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE, FORD SHOULD BE RECALLING THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON PAR WITH THE GM IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM. A VEHICLE LOSING ALL POWER IN TRAFFIC, WITHOUT WARNING, CAN CAUSE WRECKS AND DEATHS. APPARENTLY FORD IS ALSO REPLACING THESE FAULTY THROTTLE BODIES WITH THE IDENTICAL OEM PART, SINCE "NOT ALL OF THE THROTTLE BODIES ARE AFFECTED." FORD TECHNICIANS SEEM UNSURE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE NEW THROTTLE BODY WILL DISPLAY THE SAME ISSUES SINCE THEY ARE THE SAME PART. THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND I NOW FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING IT, AND EVEN LESS SAFE HAVING MY PREGNANT WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR. I'M STUCK WITH A FAMILY HAULER IN WHICH I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FAMILY.

HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT TO ACCELERATE TO GET UP A HILL ON A CITY STREET AND ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE TRANSMISSION OR OTHER MAJOR PART JUST "DROPPED". STEERING WHEEL FROZE, CAR IDLED VIOLENTLY, COULD NOT MOVE VEHICLE, STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS UNTIL EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS APPLIED.ACCELERATION WENT TO LITERALLY ZERO,SUV WOULD NOT MOVE. ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, STATED TO SEE MANUAL.PLACED CAR IN PARK SHUT OFF ENGINE AND WAITED AND STARTED AT BACK UP AGAIN. SCARRY STUFF, 2 CHILDREN 2 AND YOUNGER IN VEHICLE. WON'T LET ME INPUT ON NEXT PAGE, APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MILES AN HOUR, SUV HAS 5,500 MILES ON IT
DRIVING ON I-10 ABOUT 1 MILE BEFORE DAPHNE, AL, ENGINE SPUTTERED AND VEHICLE BEGAN LOOSING SPEED. PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SERVICE MANUAL LIGHT CAME ON, AND AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE, STUCK BETWEEN THE WHITE LINE OF THE LANE EDGE AND A GUARDRAIL WITH ONLY INCHES TO SPARE FROM TRAFFIC PASSING AT 70 MPH. ALL THIS WITH MY WIFE IN THE FRONT SEAT AND OUR 2 DAUGHTERS IN THE BACKSEAT WHO ARE 2 YEARS OLD AND 5 MONTHS OLD. ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND WOULD NOT INCREASE RPMS EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND ON 6 TIMES BEFORE IT FINALLY RESPONDED TO ACCELERATOR PEDAL INPUT. WAS FINALLY ABLE TO MERGE BACK ON TO THE INTERSTATE AND GET TO THE DAPHNE EXIT. WE HAD TO STAY THE NIGHT IN A HOTEL IN DAPHNE WHILE WE WAITED FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE TO GET US HOME TO LOUISIANA. THIS WAS A RENTAL VEHICLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE MOBILE AIRPORT SO THAT WE COULD GET ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM ENTERPRISE. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT SAME ISSUE BUT NO EVIDENCE OF ANY RECALL. APPARENTLY THE THROTTLE BODY IS FAULTY AND MOST PEOPLE REPORT THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND NHTSA SHOULD TOO BUT SOMEHOW NOTHING IS BEING DONE. THIS INCIDENT LEFT US ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, INCHES FROM BEING KILLED BY PASSING MOTORISTS. HOW THIS IS NOT UNDER A RECALL OR STOP SALE ORDER IS BEYOND ME. PLEASE INITIATE A RECALL AND/OR STOP SALE ORDER ON THESE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED.

BRAND NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 6779 MILES. UNABLE TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION. NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG PRIOR TO THIS. SEVERAL DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE NOT ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 15 MPH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, POWER TRAIN LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT ALL ILLUMINATED. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THROTTLE BODY FAILURE INDICATED AS THE ISSUE. PART WAS BACK ORDERED FOR TWO WEEKS. VERIFIED ONLINE THAT MANY OTHER NEW EXPLORER OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY LIKE SOME.

STARTED SMELLING SULFUR/ROTTEN EGGS EXHAUST THROUGH THE VENTS AROUND 3K MILES UNDER HARD ACCELERATION. IT'S A POLICE VERSION WITH THE 3.7L. SMELLED IT IN RE-CIRCULATION MODE AND THE FRESH AIR MODE. NOW HAVE 5900 MILES ON IT AND ONE DAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS 50-60 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AIRBAG LIGHT, AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE DASH ALSO SAID "SEE OWNERS MANUAL". CAR ALSO MAKES A SPUTTERING NOISE. ...UPDATED 01/23/17 *BF

AS I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON JUNE 28, AS I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A MAJOR STREET, APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, WHEN MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER BEGAN TO DECELERATE. EVEN AS I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT SPEED UP. AS I CAME TO A STOP AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, THE TRUCK BEGAN TO JERK WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 30 MPH AT THIS POINT. I DECIDED TO TURN AROUND AND GO BACK HOME, WHICH WAS ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY AND THE TRUCK KEPT DECELERATING THE MORE I HIT THE ACCELERATOR. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME AND GET MY EXPLORER TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD TRANSMISSION, IN A 5 MONTH OLD TRUCK, WITH LESS THAN 3500 MILES ON IT. MY EXPLORER HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR TWO WEEKS, AND I COULD POSSIBLY BE LOOKING AT ANOTHER TWO WEEKS BEFORE IT IS REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER.

I WAS DRIVING CLOSE TO MY HOUSE AND ALMOST CAUSED A BIG ACCIDENT WHILE I HAD MY CHILDREN ON BOARD. THE CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY ( SUDDENLY STOPPED) AND LOST POWER, I WAS LUCKY THAT NOT ACCIDENT OCCURRED ( CAN U IMAGINE IF I WAS IN THE MIAMI EXPRESSWAY AND THAT HAPPENED). I'M ATTACHING A PIC SHOWING THE CHECK ENGINE, WRENCH LIGHT THAT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT MANY AMERICANS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, IT IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN AND SHUTDOWN AT ANY TIME. FORD IS ALREADY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND YOU GUYS MORE LIKELY ARE AWARE TOO. WHAT ARE YOU GUYS WAITING TO ISSUE A RECALL?? WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE?
Mileage: 4,538
MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER WILL LOSE POWER UNDER VARIOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 45-55 MPH THE CAR ENGINE DROPPED TO IDLE (~800 RPM) AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. THIS OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC AND CREATED MANY CLOSE CALLS. IT HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES TO ME, AND RESEARCHING IT ON THE INTERNET HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE.
Mileage: 14,100
ON MY 2016 EXPLORER LIMITED 3.5 N/A V6 - UNDER HARD (GETTING ON FWY) OR EXTENDED ACCELERATION (UPHILL CLIMB) EXHAUST FUMES CAN BE NOTICED BY THE PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE. I KNOW THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ON THE 11-15 YEARS BUT THE 16 SHOULD BE INCLUDED AS WELL. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE FROM NEW TO CURRENT 11K MILES. THIS HAPPENED ON MY PREVIOUS 2013 MODEL AS WELL.

I WAS DRIVING 45MPH ON A BUSY STREET WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR JUST STALLED. I HAD KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT AND FRANTICALLY PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL WHICH PRESSED DOWN BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND PULL OVER. WE ARE SO FORTUNATE WE DIDN'T REACH THE HIGHWAY YET ON THIS BUSY HOLIDAY WEEKEND. I AM SURE IT WOULD HAVE ENDED DIFFERENTLY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. WHAT GOOD IS A NEW CAR IF YOU CAN'T TRUST IT? HOPING THE THROTTLE BODY IS A RECONFIGURED PART WHEN THEY FIX IT. NEEDS A RECALL!!

WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION TO ENTER AN ENTRANCEWAY TO AN INTERSTATE WHEN THE CAR LOST SPEED AND WOULD ONLY MOVE AT APPROX. 10 MPH. WRENCH AND SEATBELT WAS DISPLAYED AND MESSAGE TO CHECK OWNERS MANUAL

2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT THROTTLE BODY FAILED AT JUST OVER 8,000 MILES WITHOUT WARNING. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH OUR 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND PET DOG IN 95 DEGREE WEATHER WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN TO AN IDLE ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND VERY LITTLE SHOULDER ROOM TO PULL OVER ON. LATER I FIND OUT, WITH A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH, THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH FORD THROTTLE BODIES FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND IT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR THIS TO BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY IN A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE AND WILL MOST LIKELY CAUSE DEATH OR INJURY. NOW THE VEHICLE PART IS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR INCIDENCES, WITH NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR REPAIR. NOW, EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE GETS REPAIRED, I CANNOT TRUST OR RELY ON THIS VEHICLE TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE ON THE HIGHWAY AND WILL BE TRADING IT FOR A VEHICLE WITH A PROVEN SAFETY RECORD. PLEASE GET THIS VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE'S FAMILY GETS KILLED FOR NO REASON. I WILL BE SEEKING LEGAL COUNSEL ON THIS MATTER BECAUSE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND A IGNORED ISSUE JUST TO MAKE SALES, AND I WILL NOT SIT BY AND LET IT CONTINUE TO GO UNNOTICED AND FORD SHOULD VALUE THE LIVES AND SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND GET IT FIXED FOR GOOD NOW. NOT TOMORROW, NOT NEXT WEEK, NOW!

WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET GOING 35 MPH, VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWED TO 5MPH EVEN THOUGH I HAD FOOT ON PEDAL. IT WAS BARELY ROLLING. WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON (WHICH I FOUND LATER MEANS PROBLEM WITH DRIVE TRAIN, TAKE TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. )ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO ROLL TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURN DOWN STREET AND GO INTO A PARKING LOT. TURNED ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. WRENCH LIGHT GONE BUT ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. DROVE AROUND PARKING LOT AND IT RAN NORMALLY.I SINCE HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. SOME OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM ON FREEWAY DOING 60 MPH. TOOK VEHICLE TO FRONTIER FORD WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THEY REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO LISTEN. IT IS CURRENTLY WAITING TO BE LOOKED AT IN SERVICE DEPT. BUT MY HUGE POINT IS THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. FORD DOESN'T WANT TO SEEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE RECALLED. WE WERE NOT EVEN OFFERED A LOANER VEHICLE. "WE DON'T DO LOANERS IF YOU DIDN'T BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH IS ANOTHER SCAM) OBVIOUSLY THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND PEOPLE WILL DIE. IF THIS HAPPENS ON FREEWAY WHERE I LIVE IN SAN JOSE CALIFORNIA, THEY WILL DEFINITELY BE IN SERIOUS ACCIDENTS THE WAY PEOPLE DRIVE HERE.WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON EXISTENT. THERE ARE ONLY 7305 MILES ON VEHICLE.
WAS DRIVING ALONG BUSY ROAD MAKING A LEFT TURN AT RUSH HOUR ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC. CAR SIMPLY DIED. NO RESPONSE TO ACCELERATOR. WRENCH LIGHT ON. I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BADLY. WAS ABLE TO GET CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC. WAS TOLD THIS IS A SEVERE PROBLEM WITH THROTTLE BODY AND FORD IS AWARE OF THIS. CAR HAS LESS THAN 5100 MILES ON IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL SITUATION.

WAS DRIVING DOWN A STREET, GOING ABOUT 40MPH, THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO 5PMH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN PUSHING THE GAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. I HAD TO COAST IT HOME, DROP THE FAMILY OFF, AND THEN COAST IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. UPON ARRIVING, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THAT ALL PARTS ARE CURRENTLY ON BACK ORDER.

WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET THERE WAS A BURNED RUBBER SMELL OUTSIDE VEHICLE, FOLLOWED BY STRONG SMELL OF NATURAL GAS INSIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A RATTLING OR THUMPING SOUND. THINKING BACK, THERE WAS A NATURAL GAS SMELL OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE DAYS BEFORE BURNED RUBBER SMELL. I LET THE DEALER HEAR A RECORDING OF THE SOUND. THEY DESCRIBED IT LIKE THE SOUND OF DRIVING ON A RAILROAD TRACK. AFTER DEALER INSPECTION, THE DEALER FOUND 'CRACK IN PTO DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE' THEY HAD TO 'REPLACE PTU AND PTU VENT FOLLOWING WSM PROCEDURE IN SECTION 307-01'

SUV IS 4 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 12200 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON CITY ROAD AT 40 MPH THE WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER IMMEDIATELY AND SLOWED DOWN ON ITS OWN AND WAS MOVING AT 5 MPH. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I PARKED THE SUV AT A GAS STATION AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE FOR 5 MINUTES AND TURNED BACK ON. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL WAS GONE.

AT 70 MPH ON I-4, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILED, DROPPING THE ENGINE TO IDLE SPEED. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IDLE, AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE PART FAILED AT 6,300 MILES, LESS THAN 2,000 MILES AFTER THE CAR'S FIRST DEALERSHIP SERVICING. HAD I NOT BEEN IN THE SLOW LANE AT THE TIME, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF I-4, AND POSSIBLY KILLED.

DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MY 2 MONTH OLD 2016 FORD EXPLORER WITH 1900 MILES ON IT AND WAS MERGING INTO FREEWAY TRAFFIC WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. WAS PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL AND COULD HEAR THE ENGINE BUT THE SPEED OF MY CAR WAS STALLED AT 35 MPH AND A WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND INTO A GAS STATION WHERE I CALLED FOR A TOW. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED I TRIED MOVING THE CAR TO MAKE IT EASIER TO GET ON THE TRUCK BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN REVERSE OR FORWARD. FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TELLS ME IT IS THE TRANSMISSION AND SEVERAL PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND A FEW OF THEM ARE ON BACKORDER. THE CAR HAS BEEN UN DRIVABLE AND IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR 11 DAYS ALREADY AND THEY TELL ME MAYBE IN ANOTHER 10 DAYS THE BACKORDERED PARTS MAY BE AVAILABLE

VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION SUDDENLY: FIRST TIME HAPPENED WHEN I STOPPED AT THE INTERSECTION WAITING THE TRAFFIC TO CLEAR AND WHEN I WANT THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE IT DID NOT SO I PULLED OVER AND TURNED ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT FIVE MINUETS LATER AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE AND I MANAGE TO REACH MY DESTINATION, NEXT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER BECAUSE THE SERVICE POWERTRAIN FAULT ILLUMINATES. FORD DEALER SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION AND NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PART IS ON A BACK ORDER AND IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FEW WEEKS, THE DEALER ADVICE ME TO USE THE VEHICLE AND IF HAPPENED AGAIN TO CALL HIM BACK ALTHOUGH I WAS CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. NEXT DAY THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED MORE FREQUENT AND IT HAPPENED WHILE I AM DRIVING AND LUCKILY I MANAGED TO PULL OVER SAFELY, THIS TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON ILLUMINATES AS WELL AND STAYS ILLUMINATED AFTER I RESTART THE ENGINE. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER AGAIN AND I GOT THE SAME ANSWER: YOU HAVE TO WAIT TILL WE GET THE PART TO FIX YOUR VEHICLE !!. .. I TOLD THEM THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HAVE THE PARTS AND REMEDY AVAILABLE ASAP
