In January of 2025 the rear windshield suddenly blew a hole in it after starting the vehicle with the remote start. I was advised that due to the cold temperatures and then the heat from the rear defrost caused this to occur. On Wednesday 12/31/25, the same exact thing happened. My vehicle was parked at my home in the garage when I remote started it. A few minutes later, my daughter and I got in, started it, then proceeded to back up when we heard a loud boom. Same thing happened as the first issue in January of 2025. No reason, no damage and it blows a hole it in near the rear wiper. This is causing glass shards to explode into the interior.

I’ve been experiencing a buzzing sound whenever I turn the steering wheel, and the more I drive the vehicle, the louder the noise becomes. I took it to a local shop, and they advised me that the power steering rack is going bad — a very common issue in 2017–2019 Ford Explorers, especially around the 100,000-mile mark. They provided a quote of $2,652.86 to have it replaced. I was also warned that if it’s not replaced soon, the steering could lock up while driving, preventing me from turning the wheel, which poses a serious safety risk. No warning lights or dashboard messages have appeared, which makes the issue even more concerning.
intermittened starting problems, vechile wont start, clicks, then starts and power train light comes on. Waiting at a red light, press the gas and the car does not go, also when speeding up transmission slips.
The following is a letter I sent to Ford. I've yet to hear back from them. This is a picture of what happened in my 2017 Explorer on Thursday, June 5, 2025. As I unlocked and got into my car, I realized the seat was moving forward. I tried to get out of the seat, but it was difficult because the space was closing in. I managed to squeeze out of the space before it totally closed me in and pinned me between the seat and steering wheel. As you can see from the picture, the seat is as close to the steering wheel and console as possible. The steering wheel was 7 inches from the seatback and 7 inches from the seat bottom. The seat was 2 inches from the console. This is extremely dangerous. This is not the first time this has happened. This has occurred at least ten times. Sometimes it is when I get in the vehicle as happened June 5. One time I was pinned between the steering wheel and seat and my legs were jammed into the console. Fortunately, I was able to extricate myself with only a few scrapes and bruises. While it is happening, I try the side buttons that control the seat and other ways to stop it, but nothing I do stops the movement once it begins. The only way to avoid being pinned in is to get out while the seat is moving. Other times it has happened when I am not in the car. I unlock and open the door to get in and the seat has moved itself and is as far up to the steering wheel as physically possible. The first time this happened; I told the service desk at the dealer when I was having work done on the SUV. They checked and said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it.`
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while seated in the parked vehicle, the rear passenger’s side head restraint became unhinged. The contact stated that the exterior front driver’s side pin paddle had failed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the railings on the rear passenger’s side seats were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,208.

There is a constant drain on the battery and overnight the battery can go dead. I replace the battery every 6 months to a year and have been doing that ever since we purchased it. The dealership wants $250 to diagnose it. It's been a problem from day 1. Even when we took it to get serviced and they kept it overnight - the same thing happened at the dealership, but they just ignored it. That was when it was under warranty. I read on the internet that several people have this same problem. I feel this should be a recall. I have a 2017 Ford Platinum
The sunroof gets stuck in the tilted open position and sunshades will not close. This creates an unsafe condition if it starts to rain. Cannot secure the vehicle. This problem is very common and there are many complaints and how to fix videos on the internet. I contacted Ford At first they were cooperative and offered to help with the repair. Then suddenly they refused to help with the repair. This left me with a 1200.00 bill at the dealer. It is a common failure, it was occurring on the previous model year and was not addressed, it requires proprietary tools to fix. There is low incentive to Ford to fix if they can make a profit from the failure. just one online example there are many videos and how to repair post and complaints: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal beeping sound, the cabin lights illuminated unintendedly, and the message "Tailgate Ajar" was displayed. The contact decelerated and pulled over to the side of the road. The contact resumed driving; however, the failure persisted. The contact then became aware that the front driver's side door exterior keypad trim had detached and had fractured into two pieces, causing damage to the keypad wiring system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the keypad needed to be replaced. The contact purchased the part from the manufacturer's website, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the part was installed; however, the failure recurred while driving. The dealer was contacted and provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Passenger seatbelt frayed, inside electrical goes haywire when cold weather, transmission slipping was rebuilt under warranty lasted one week and is slipping again shifting hard, B panels falling off A panel was recalled but panel wasn’t?
Keyless entry panel on driver's side continues to fall off while driving, hanging by wires, which then blow fuses. Lift gate ajar warning comes on and then unable to open/close rear lift gate. Indoor overhead lighting remains on due to "liftgate ajar" even though liftgate is not ajar. This is a Safety hazard, panel could fly off during driving. Took to dealer, misdiagnosed as liftgate latch malfunction. Paid to get latch replaced and one week later, keyless entry panel fell off again and liftgate ajar warning came up and unable to open or close liftgate and interior lighting remains on.
Driving on the highway heard large rattling noise coming from engine loss of power engine light came on battery light came on no acceleration cause to slow down on highway fortunately I was able to get to shoulder had it towed to service shop had p0012 code tensioner may have broken off on timing belt causing low oil pressure and causing engine rattling noise and engine shut down but service garage don’t do that type of work
We notice we were getting a warning about our battery about a year ago, so we took it to Ford and they said they couldn’t find any issues. We found a mechanic in town who looked at it with a volt meter an instantly noticed that the red power cable coming from the battery had burst through the casing that once held it. Now we have an exposed power cable that could potentially catch on fire if fluids from the engine were exposed to it. We first knew something was wrong when the doors would not unlock properly. And while driving we would get a battery warning. Ford told us during our warranty period that they didn’t find anything wrong when this should have been noticed instantly. This is a serious fire hazard. The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer but a lack of knowledge by their mechanics has led to us filling this report.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver’s side door keypad fractured in half leaving the wires exposed. No warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that the parts to fix the vehicle was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Liftgate Ajar" message was displayed. The contact's husband pulled over and inspected the trunk, and the trunk was properly closed. The contact's husband then became aware that while opening the front driver's side door, the keyless entry keypad had detached. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at 80 MPH, the contact heard a loud bang, and the "Door Ajar" message was displayed. The contact pulled over and noticed that the front driver's side keyless entry keypad had detached, exposing the wires from the door. The contact drove to her destination, but the rear liftgate failed to open as needed and the interior lights failed to turn off. The contact purchased and replaced the 10-amp fuse under the steering wheel, which resolved the failure with the rear liftgate and the interior lights; however, the front driver's side keyless entry keypad was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Vehicle’s coolant over temperature warning light comes on only on highway and vehicles slows, which can cause a crash. However, temp gauge fluctuates quickly going back and forth from normal to hot.
My instrument panel completely went blank, flickering and when the car is shut off it continues to click, I'm having to disconnect battery when exiting the vehicle. I have no speedometer, oil gauge, temperature gage. I have no way of knowing my speed when driving. This vehicle has been very well taken care of and maintenance when called for. It believe it causes the battery to corrioid and having to clean battery all the time. This has been continuous since buying the car in Dec 2018.

Like the existing recall for the exterior A pillar , the exterior B Pillar is lifting from the car at the top. This has since caused rain water to leak in from the top and caused a short in the touch entry keypad within the pillar, causing it to flash on and off over and over draining the cars battery until it is dead and won’t start.
My locks on my doors will not lock with keyfob or when I push my lock button in the car. I am scared that if I can't lock them someone will fall out the car. Someone can steal my car because I cannot lock my doors.

The driver side heated seat does not work at all the passenger side heated seat works just the driver side does not work
Air bag light came on the dash board Headed to dealer to see why Code B141C Cost to repair the problem was very high not covered by warranty The problem seems to me a poor design. Because of this weak design I feel this puts passengers in danger.
Our Explorer, experienced this in June of 2022. My daughter had just graduated college and we were moving some of her stuff back home 350 miles away. The Driver side area where the codes are put into to unlock the door if locked out, fell off and was hanging while we were driving on the freeway. We had to exit the freeway and my husband had to buy duck tape to tape it up. Our hatchback would not work as well as some of the other electrical things. I refused to drive it the rest of the way home, and we switched cars. It did cause electrical to go out throughout the car, intermittently. My husband had to buy the part online and replace it. The passenger side is going to fall off also, I noticed while washing it. So yes we need this done, asap. And we had to incur charges for having to replace the other one. There were warning lights for electrical, not working. I cannot remember what they were.
All plastic parts around all doors and windows have become detached. Windshield wipers do not stay on. All lights and gps go haywire and flash on and off gps system goes off and makes loud buzzing noise
Car dies repeatedly while on the road driving and also while parked. Car has errors on dashboard when attempting to turn on, which I have a video of. First mechanic was able to replicate issue once and got some scan tool codes but he said after that, they all cleared out and he wasn't able to replicate. Car was given back to us, drove to store died and it wouldn't start in parking lot. Mechanic sent tow truck, car started when tow truck arrived. Took car to Ford, tech unable to replicate, car returned to us. Car died once again, which is when I took the error video and took the car back to Ford and showed service rep the video. Ford still unable to figure out the issue. We told Ford to keep the car because it isn't safe to drive until we find and fix the issue. Car has been in mechanic and Ford for about 4 months total.
My two back doors wont lock or unlock. Very frustrating
I had a piece of window trim fly off while I was driving on the highway at 70 mph. When it flew off, it may have hit another car. With the piece gone, I am not unable to open the hatch and the dome lights stays on for a considerable amount of time. There is no way to turn off the dome lights, you have to wait for them to go off, which is sometimes more than 10 minutes. When the piece was replaced, the hatch worked as normal. I had the window trim replaced and the same thing happened. I was traveling down the highway over 70 mph and the piece flew off in heavy traffic. I, again, have not been able to open the hatch nor turn off of the dome lights.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and making a right turn, the steering wheel did not return to center. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed to respond normally while turning the steering wheel to center. Additionally, the contact stated that the instrument cluster went black, and the vehicle stalled. The contact pulled over safely and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the “System Communication Error" message was displayed on the infotainment screen after the restart. The contact later had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the wiring harness and the GWM harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated that after the repair, the battery had started to drain very quickly. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,833.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that he attempted to start the vehicle however, the engine failed to turn over. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to and independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed that the relay and fuses failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then stated that the independent mechanic test drove the vehicle and the vehicle stalled. The contact was then informed by the dealer that the vehicle was included in Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N01 (Cooling Fan Motor Relay). The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the contact was unsure of the diagnostic results. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was then advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

My door do not lock/unlock automatically. It started with one door. Then that door started working and another door stopped working. Then that started working and a different door stopped working. This cycle kept happening until all doors stopped working. Then they started working again and then stopped working again. On several occasions the locks I couldn't unlock door with the key or open the door from the inside with handle/button or lever. Also tried to lock car manually only for the lever to pop right back up. So my car was left unsecured on many occasions. Door problems Started may of 2022 until recent
The locks on the doors do not all unlock at the same time or lock at the same time. The passenger door has locked and would not unlock. My daughter had to climb through car to get out. If there’s an accident my kids can not safely exit the vehicle due to the locks. You can’t unlock it either from the inside. It randomly will unlock on its own.
The automatic locks on both right passenger sides quit working. It imposes a danger because if you are trying to get out of the vehicle you can’t if it’s locked. If it’s left unlocked then it imposes a danger if someone is trying to get into your vehicle that you don’t want and you can’t lock them out.
The APIM module failed in our 2017 Ford Explorer. The module failed so the windshield wipers do not work, the turn signals do not work, the heater does not work, the speedometer does not work, the tachometer does not work, the temperature gauge does not work, the fuel gauge does not work, the center display does not work, the reverse camera does not work and the radio will not turn off and the center display lights will not turn off.
We had an issue with Fuse 34, it popped and sent warning lights to the dash regarding safety systems and sensors, as well as the cameras in front and back stopped working. We replaced the fuse and it held for a while, but then popped again. I noticed a lamp flickering one day on the front of the vehicle, and upon further inspection saw that the front camera and wiring harness had started on fire. The wiring harness is fully melted and there are signs of smoke and fire damage on the front of the car. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer who confirmed their wiring harness had failed, but will not take responsibility for the issue. The care only has about 45k miles on it. I called to their corporate office who also rejected any liability. Obviously this is more than just the money for repairs, but a safety hazard that they will not respond to.
Bad APIM, available for inspection. Diagnosed by Ford dealer when I took it in for Sync screen going black, navigation fault, steering wheel Sync controls not working. Backup camera does not work periodically - which is my prime safety concern. It is also distracting when the navigation and sync screen go black while driving. Ford seems to know the problem, and from other on-line posts, this is a popularly recurring malfunction.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel failed to respond. The contact shifted to park(P) and then shifted back into drive(D). The vehicle then regained steering functionality. The contact was able to continue driving however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on three occasions; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 30,676.

I took my Vehicle in because the AC stop blowing cold air, and the overheating lights kept coming on. After waiting for a week, I was told it was a water pump but that did not fixed the AC being at all, couple days later I got a call from the dealership (GRAPEVINE FORD) that the compressor went out. After 3 weeks of waiting, I end up paying out of pocket what is supposed to be covered based of this letter I received from FORD. I feel like I should not have to pay for something that FORD should have covered. Letter below explained the very issues I had with the vehicle, including OVERHEATING and damages like bad cooling relay would cause.
Our model is a platinum explorer with the panoramic sunroof. Apparently there is a sunroof leak which due to the way the headliner is made , fills the headliner (holds like a bowl) then either spills out at the front of the vehicle or rear depending on going forward , reverse, accelerating, braking, uphill, or downhill etc. The front is worse because of the electrical in the overhead lights, sunroof motors, and lane departure at the rear view mirror. Also everything electronic below on the dashboard and center console. There are high expenses related to replacing these electronics due to water damage in addition to the driver being suddenly started by a wave of water crashing down on them while accelerating or braking.
I backed into a parking spot, put the car in park and turned the vehicle off. As I was getting ready to get out of the car, it rolled backwards into another car parked to my passenger side rear. My vehicle did not give any warning, no sensor alert, or anything!
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the front driver’s side the keypad on the door detached from the vehicle and was hanging on by a wire. The contact stated that the liftgate ajar warning light was illuminated however, she was unable to open the liftgate. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and the dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact also requested that the vehicle be serviced and the recalls associated with the VIN be repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

The APIM is malfunction in my 2017 explorer. Accessories stay on after vehicle turned off, killed battery, vehicle collision sensors and camera intermediate malfunction. Cruise control intermittent function, GPS and screen options /operations inoperable
The GPS, radio, backup camera, front facing camera and other items controlled by the APIM have been malfunctioning in the vehicle. The GPS will freeze, phones will not answer properly, the cameras will not engage often and the cruise control will occasionally malfunction. The only remedy is to replace the APIM. The vehicle is out of warranty on mileage so I am on my own to pay for the repair of the one item that controls almost all of the vehicle accessories, including heat/defrost, some lighting, etc.
Started car back up after driving noticed mirrors on both doors didnt extend out. and both front door windows wouldn't work the the defroster was on and I had climate set for ac then the tire pressure monitoring fault came on Sync touch screen would not do anything , the radio was working But nothing else , rear windows worked and sunroof as well. I drove it home the defroster was on and would not go off I parked vehicle let it set for several hours and it is still doing the same thing I plan on taking it to dealership for inspection on monday Aug 30 2021 I'll call first thing in the morning
My car keeps saying charging system service now but I’ve checked my alternator and my battery and they are both good. And I’m not the only Ford that has this problem as well. Multiple people who have had Ford have this problem. It should be a recall at this point.
MY 3 YR OLD TRUCK ALREADY HAS A LEAKING COOLANT LINE WHICH COME TO FIND OUT IS DRAINING INTO THE WATER LINE IN THE ENGINE. I CAN'T DRIVE MORE THAN 5MILES BEFORE I NEED TO REFILL MY COOLANT. IN ADDITION, THE HEATING ELEMENTS IN BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS HAS GONE OUT. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUSE AND OF COURSE ITS SOMETHING MORE.

ADDITIONALLY, BACK ELECTRIC 12V PORT DOES NOT DISENGAGE AND HAS LIVE CONNECTION EVEN WITH NO KEY IN IGNITION. FINALLY, VENTS NEXT TO PASSENGER SIDE DOOR APPEARS TO EXUDE HOT AIR INTO CAR THAT MAY BE LINKED WITH EXHAUST WHEN CAR IS ON.

MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME VERY STICKY. I WOULD MAKE A TURN AND THEN WHEN I WOULD GO TO TURN THE WHEEL BACK, IT WOULD STICK. IT ALMOST THREW ME INTO A TRACTOR TRAILER YESTERDAY. I NOTICED IT MORE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND MOST TIMES IT WAS SOMETHING I COULD 'DEAL WITH', PLANNING AHEAD WHEN TURNING, SLOWING MY SPEED, ACCOUNTING FOR OVER CORRECTING THE WHEEL, BUT YESTERDAY WAS VERY SCARY. I FELT LIKE I HAD TO MAKE CONSTANT LITTLE TURNS WITH MY WHEEL EVEN THOUGH I WAS GOING PERFECTLY STRAIGHT. I PULLED OFF AND TURNED MY CAR OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS AS NOTICEABLY NOT AS BAD. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I'VE HAD IT FOR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AND THEY INFORMED ME I NEED A NEW STEERING GEAR BOX. I WAS CONSTANTLY AFRAID OF OVER CORRECTING MY WHEEL TO ACCOMMODATE FOR THE STICKINESS OF IT AND ENDING UP IN THE OTHER LANE OR OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

THE SRS WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH IS ILLUMINATED INDICATING THAT IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE FAULT CODES INDICATE THAT TWO WIRE HARNESSES OR CONNECTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. COST OF SERVICE WAS QUOTED AS $1600. HOWEVER, MILEAGE (46,500) AND AGE (4 YEARS) WOULD INDICATE THAT REPAIR SHOULD BE MADE UNDER 5 YR / 60,000 MI WARRANTY. FORD HAS DENIED WARRANTY. SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER CARE HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY PHONE AND EMAIL MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION. THEY POINT TO THE WIRE HARNESS AS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE SRS SYSTEM NOT WORKING AND CLAIM THAT THE WIRE HARNESS IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY.

ON JANUARY 11, 2020, I TURNED ON THE IGNITION OF MY 2017 EXPLORER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY HAD 4 WARNING LIGHTS AND MULTIPLE ERROR MESSAGES APPEAR. IT WAS THE ABS, STABILITY CONTROL ON AND OFF LIGHTS AND A WRENCH. THEN THERE WERE MULTIPLE MESSAGES ABOUT MY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE NOT WORKING. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO GET ALL OF THE MESSAGES AND TO SEE IF IT WOULD CLEAR. AFTER THE THIRD RESTART THE ENTIRE DASH PANEL WENT OUT COMPLETELY EXCEPT FOR THE RADIO WHICH STAYED ON CONTINUOUSLY FOR 3 DAYS UNTIL IT GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY. NONE OF THE VEHICLES BASIC NECESSITIES WERE WORKING...NO SPEEDOMETER, GAS LIGHTS, WIPERS, OR CLIMATE CONTROL, ETC. ONLY THE ENGINE, HEADLIGHTS, AND TAILLIGHTS WORKED. THE DEALERSHIP IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE VEHICLE AND IS CLAIMING IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS ADMITTED THEY DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE GOING TO TRY IT. THEY ALSO STATED THAT "THE VEHICLE CLEARED ITSELF AFTER THE BATTERY DIED WHICH IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO DO". I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH DIFFERENT ITEMS BEING REPLACED, INCLUDING THE BATTERY, TO NO AVAIL. THIS IS MY FAMILY'S PRIMARY VEHICLE AND I REGULARLY DRIVE MY 6 AND 11 YR OLD CHILDREN AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE. WE ALSO TRAVEL THE HIGHWAY AND 4 LANE SUSPENSION BRIDGE EXTENSIVELY. LOSING THESE BASIC SYSTEMS COULD RESULT IN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I HAVE SEEN COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET DATING BACK TO DECEMBER 2016 AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION, NO MAJOR PROBLEMS PRIOR, AND WELL BELOW THE MILEAGE EXPECTED FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE WHEN THE ISSUES OCCURRED. I DON'T TRUST IT NOW.

I BOUGHT MY EXPLORER BRAND NEW. AT 28,000 MILES THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE OTHER DAY I DID AN OIL CHANGE AND NOTICED THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING AGAIN AND CAUSING CORROSION. THE ACID IS CLEARLY VISIBLE ON THE BATTERY. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER 3 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 36 MONTHS. THE BATTERY IS FROM 8/18/18. NOW MY VEHICLE HAS 52000 MILES. THREE DIFFERENT FORD SHOPS COGGIN DELAND, GARY YEOMAN, MULLINAX FORD REFUSE TO REPLACE IT DUE TO IT BEING "ORIGINAL BATTERY". THIS IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAPPEN. WHEN I ASKED GARY REP IF THIS WAS COMMON AND THEY STATED "YES WE SEE THIS ALOT AND THATS WHY WE OFFER 7 YEAR BATTERIES". THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WHEN A BATTERY IS BEING USED PER YEAR PER 28000 MILES.

TL* THE CONTACT DRIVES A 2017 FORD EXPLORER POLICE VEHICLE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED OUT INTO AN OPEN PARKING LOT WHERE IT CAUGHT FIRE. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT STARTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO FINISH THE JOB. POLICE AND FIRE REPORTS WERE FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO VILLAGE FORD (23535 MICHIGAN AVE, DEARBORN, MI 48124, (313) 565-3900) WHERE IT WAS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED. THE CONTACT THAT THE FUSE PANEL MAY HAVE MELTED AND CAUSED THE FIRE AFTER RESEARCHING OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000. *LN*JB CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. VEHICLE WAS SENT TO HIS COMPANY'S ATTORNEY FOR A POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. *DL

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, IT SUDDENLY DISENGAGED ON ITS OWN. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BRAKE ON ITS OWN AND SWERVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. SAYVILLE FORD (5686 SUNRISE HWY, SAYVILLE, NY 11782, (855) 561-1191) STATED THAT THE LEASING MILEAGE LIMIT WAS EXCEEDED, BUT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED THE SAME INFORMATION AS THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE BATTERY EXPLODED, BUT THE DEALER DISMISSED THE CONCERNS AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, I HEARD A LOUD POP SOUND, ENGINE BEGAN TO SMOKE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED IN TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH INDICATED BAD CELL IN MANUFACTURERS BATTERY CAUSING IT TO BLOW AND SPRAY BATTERY ACID ALL OVER ENGINE COMPONENTS AT 26,127 MILES. DEALERSHIP DID NOT FOLLOW PROPER PROCEDURE WHEN REPLACING BATTERY AND LEFT ACID ON ENGINE AND COMPONENTS. BATTERY ACID HAD EATEN THROUGH BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS, WIRING AND CAUSED SEVERE CORROSION UNDER HOOD. BY NOT ADDRESSING THE SAFETY CONCERN WHEN CONFRONTED AND DURING MULTIPLE VISITS AND PHONE E CALLS, BRAKE SYSTEM ABS FAILED CAUSING A FRONT END COLLISION BY SLAMMING INTO ANOTHER CAR IN THE INTERSTATE RESULTING FROM BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE.

AFTER THE 2017 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WAS STARTED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS BLANK, THE CLIMATE WOULD NOT WORK, THE WIPERS, BLINKERS, WINDOWS, ETC. WOULD NOT OPERATE. I TRIED RESTARTING THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM WOULD CORRECT ITSELF AND IT DID NOT. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY ASKED ME TO DROP IT OFF. IT WAS POURING DOWN RAIN AND I COULD BARELY SEE TO DRIVE SINCE THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. I COULD NOT BLINKER TO TURN. THANKFULLY, I ONLY HAD TO DRIVE ABOUT A MILE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE CAR HAS ONLY 21,000 MILES ON IT. UNFORTUNATELY THIS IS NOT THE FIRST ISSUE WITH THIS BRAND NEW EXPLORER. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AT 18,000 MILES BECAUSE IT HAD CORRODED. THE TIRES ARE ALL TEARING. I REALLY LIKE THE VEHICLE, JUST ASHAME THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT BUILT WITH QUALITY MATERIALS. I PAID 46,000 FOR WHAT I CONSIDER A LUXURY VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY THIS IS ALL UNDER WARRANTY.

I PURCHASED MY FORD EXPLORER 2017, IN SEPTEMBER OF 2016, I HAVE RETURNED BACK TO THE DEALER MORE THAN 10 TIMES LESS THAN A 2 YEAR PERIOD. MY FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE TRUCK WOULD NOT GET ENOUGH SPEED, UNLESS I HIT THE GAS 2 OIR 3 TIMES, THE DEALER CAME IT WASN'T A PROBLEM UNTIL THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THAN I WAS TOLD IT WAS A RECALL ON IT, BUT WHEN I CHECK, THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VIN. I HAVE 5 BATTERIES SINCE I HAD THE TRUCK, I ASK THEM WHAT IS CAUSING THIS, I NEVER GET A RESPONSE. MY AC/HEAT WENT OUT, I TOLD THEM, I NOTICE SOMETHING COMING IN THROUGH THE VENTS. I INFORMED THE DEALER'S REPAIR DEPARTMENT THAT IT SMELLED LIKE A ROTTEN EGG OR JUST LOOK LIKE AIR COMING IN THE VENTS. I NEVER GOT AN ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION. I TRIED CALLING FORD CORPORATE OFFICE, BUT KNOW ONE NEVER RETURNED MY CALL.

I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT AT THE MALL WITH MY BABY GIRL. I STARTED THE CAR AND STARTED TO DRIVE OUT OF THE PARKING GARAGE WHEN I REALIZED MY ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS OFF. I COULDN'T SEE MY SPEED LIMIT, BLINKERS, FUEL GAUGE, ETC... NOTHING WAS ON. I PANICKED AND PULLED OVER AS SOON AS IT WAS POSSIBLE FOR ME TO DO SO. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, THEN STARTED IT BACK UP, AND STILL NOTHING IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I THEN SHUT OFF ENGINE AGAIN, EXITED THE VEHICLE, AND PROCEEDED TO LOCK THE CAR. AT THIS POINT I HEARD EVERYTHING SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND SO I GOT BACK IN AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN. IT WORKED OKAY AFTER THAT.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR STARTED SHAKING AND SOUNDING DIFFERENT. THE VIBRATIONS KEPT GETTING WORSE. THEN I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND MY SPEED WAS GOING DOWN. I COULDN'T GET MY SUV TO GET ANY SPEED AT ALL IT GOT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ZERO MPH AND I HAD TO COAST TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT. THE LIGHT ON MY DASH SAID TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAILURE. LUCKILY THERE WEREN'T ANY CARS BEHIND ME AS IT WAS AT NIGHT TIME. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND TRIED TO RESTART THE COMPUTER WITH NO LUCK. THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS TO RECYCLE THE KEY AND TRY AGAIN. MY CAR IS PUSH BUTTON START SO THAT WASN'T AN OPTION. I THEN LOOKED ON GOOGLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND SAW THERE WERE MULTIPLE ISSUES FROM MULTIPLE PEOPLE THAT HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY HAD WENT BAD. MY SUV ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT.
Mileage: 40,000
I HAVE ENCOUNTERED TOO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE, MY BIGGEST ISSUE HAS TO DO WITH WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A "FALLING ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL" ISSUE. THERE WERE A FEW TIMES LAST WINTER, AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT STATIONARY AND WARM UP , THAT I COULDN'T "STAY AWAKE" WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY. IT HAPPENED ONCE, TWICE, THEN CONTINUED, AND IT BECAME APPARENT IT WAS THE VEHICLE, NOT ME, THAT WAS CAUSING THIS. IT CAN BE BEST DESCRIBED AS THE SENSATION RIGHT BEFORE BEING PUT UNDER FOR A MEDICAL PROCEDURE. I WOULD THEN COME OUT OF THIS UNCONCIOUS STATE IN POTENTLALLY DEADLY DRIVING SITUATIONS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY DOG WAS BEING AFFECTED AT THE SAME TIME. I COULD SEE HIM GETTING ANXIOUS NEXT TO ME, AND THEN HAVE WHAT LOOKED LIKE A PANIC ATTACK UNTIL I PUT THE WINDOW DOWN. HE WOULD KEEP HIS HEAD OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE FOR A MAJORITY OF THE RIDE. I BASICALLY STOPPED USING THE HEATER. AT THE SAME TIME, THE BATTERY KEPT DYING, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT DOWN AND GO INTO A "BATTERY SAFE" MODE, AND IT NEEDED TO BE JUMPED EVERY OTHER TRIP. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY BASICALLY SAID THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM, BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS, AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY GOT IN. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. THIS IS MY 3RD AND LAST LEASE WITH FORD, MY PREVIOUS 2 EDGES BOTH HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES, INCLUDING LOOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. NOW, I'M IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, AND THEY WON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I WANT OUT OF MY LEASE, BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH FORD, THE CONSUMER LOOSES EVERY TIME. CAN'T FIGHT THEM IF THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I'M PRAYING FOR MY LIFE, AND OTHER DRIVERS LIVES THAT SOMETHING GET RESOLVED QUICKLY BEFORE SOMEONE LOOSES THEIR LIFE. DOESN'T SEEM FAIR THAT THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY FOR THE COMPANIES SHORTCOMINGS...

DRIVING DOWN A DIRT TRAIL FROM A MOUNTAIN OUTLOOK THE CARS ELECTRICAL SHUT OFF. WE HAD NO CONTROL OF BRAKES, OR ANYTHING BUT STEARING. NOT TO MENTION WE WERE PICKING UP MAJOR SPEED DOWN A MOUNTAIN, AND BOUNCING EVERYWHERE. WE HAD TO SWERVE BACK AND FORTH, HITTING BUSHES AND SEMI DRIVING UP THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN TO TRY AND SLOW DOWN. OUR WHOLE FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR, INCLUDING A TWO MONTH OLD AND A THREE YEAR OLD. THE ONLY WAY WE GOT IT TO WORK AGAIN WAS SLAMMING THE SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN PUSHING THE RESTART BUTTON, BUT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST OUR PRAYERS THAT GOT THE CAR TO TURN BACK ON AND GIVE US BRAKE CONTROL AGAIN. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR IN FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN.

MY 2017 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH BASE 3.5 V6 HAS BEEN HARD TO START FROM THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNERSHIP. IT HAS LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT NOW AND ISN'T FIXED. FORD DEALERSHIP STATED IT WOULD HAVE TO GET WORSE BEFORE THEY COULD FIX IT. VEHICLE SHOWS NO DTC'S OR ANY HISTORY! MY WIFE HAS REFUSED TO DRIVE IT OUT OF TOWN DUE TO THE FEAR OF IT NOT STARTING AT ALL. WE HAVE RECORDED OVER 30 VIDEOS OF IT NOT STARTING AND HAVE SENT VIDEOS TO FORD MOTOR CO. WITH THE SAME RESPONSE, CANT FIX IT IF IT ISN'T BROKE. APPARENTLY IT WILL HAVE TO EITHER BREAK SOMETHING INTERNALLY AND LEAVE MY WIFE AND CHILD STRANDED, BEFORE IT WILL BE DIAGNOSED. IT IS A $40000 LEMON THAT TAKES 3-4 TIMES ATTEMPTING TO START BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL RUN. THIS WEEKEND IT TOOK AT LEAST 30-40 SECONDS BEFORE VEHICLE STARTED, THEN IT WOULD NOT IDLE CORRECTLY! STILL NO DTC'S! VEHICLE DOES THIS NO MATTER THE LENGTH OF TIME ENGINE HAS RUN OR LEVEL OF FUEL? IT DOES IT DURING REMOTE START OR THE PUSH BUTTON. IT DOES AT TIMES HAVE A STRONG ODOR OF GAS AFTER START-UP, ALMOST AS IF IT WAS FLOODED? AS A PERSON IN THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR WORLD, THE ABSENCE OF CONCERN FROM FORD IS SHOCKING! SO INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CORRECT A ISSUE BEFORE IT BECOMES A DANGER, THEY WOULD RATHER IT BECOME DANGEROUS AND THEN REPAIR IT? IF IT IS A FUEL RELATED ISSUE, THEN THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE VEHICLE IS GETTING WORSE, BUT AS SAID EARLIER, IT WILL HAVE TO COMPLETELY NOT START BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. FORD MOTOR CO HAS NOT BEEN VERY HELPFUL, AND NOW I AM PROUD OWNER OF VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT START CORRECTLY.

WHEN DRIVING CAR LOST ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS, POWER STEERING, RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC. I HAD IT TOWED TO SERVICE AND THEY SAID NOTHING CAME UP IN DIAGNOSTICS OR ERROR CODES. I PICKED THE CAR UP AND WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS IT STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. BEFORE IT WAS ONLY HAPPENING WHEN I SAT IDLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN STARTED MOVING. NOW IT IS ALL THE TIME. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I'VE REACHED BACK OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AGAIN AND AM WAITING FOR A TIME AVAILABLE TO GO BACK IN. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOTATE IT BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE ME A LOANER CAR WHILE CAR WAS BEING FIXED OR HELP ME ANY FURTHER AND JUST TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN IT GOES IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY DON'T SEE A ERROR CODE AND THEY HAVE TROUBLE REPLICATING IT. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME WHEN IDLE, AT A STOP LIGHT, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL AND WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT. THERE IS NO PATTERN OR NO WAY TO TELL WHEN OR HOW IT HAPPENS. THE PHOTO WAS AT A INTERSECTION.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THEY OBSERVED AN ABNORMAL ODOR OF FUMES THROUGHOUT THE VENTS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THE ODOR WAS SO ABSORBENT THAT IT CAUSED HEADACHES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.

PROBLEMS WITH FORD SYNC 3 SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING: 1) NAVIGATION SYSTEM SHOWS INCORRECT LOCATION, AND DOES NOT PROVIDE GUIDANCE. CAR MUST BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND RESTARTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. 2) MOBILE PHONE SHOW CONNECTED AFTER STARTING THE CAR, SHORTLY THERE AFTER DISCONNECTS AND MAKES HANDS FREE OPERATION IMPOSSIBLE. CAR MUST BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND RESTARTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. 3) SYSTEM COMPLETELY FREEZES RENDERING OPERATION OF ALL CAR SYSTEMS & DISPLAYS INOPERABLE. CAR MUST BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND RESTARTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. 4) SYSTEM CONNECT TO PHONE BUT CERTAIN FUNCTIONS ARE UNAVAILABLE. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO OPERATE CERTAIN FUNCTIONS DON'T WORK CAR MUST BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND RESTARTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THESE ISSUES ARE ALL INTERMITTENT. I HAVE VIDEOS THAT ARE TOO LARGE TO ATTACH THAT DOCUMENT THE PROBLEMS ABOVE.

ON 09/15/16 WE PURCHASED A 2017 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED FROM SUPREME FORD OF SLIDELL, LA. TWO WEEKS AFTER HAVING THE SUV, WE NOTICED THE RIGHT TAIL LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING AT TIMES. ON 11/16/2016, WE DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE LIGHT. WHEN THE SALES MANAGER DROVE THE SUV TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE REAR RIGHT TAILLIGHT WAS WORKING.. BUT WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED AT THE SUV, THE LIGHT WAS WORKING. BUT WHEN WE STARTED BACK TO DENHAM SPRINGS, LA, THE RIGHT TAILLIGHT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. I TOOK SEVERAL VIDEOS OF THE LIGHT RANDOMLY GOING OFF AND ON THE TRIP BACK HOME WITH MY IPHONE. I ATTACHED VIDEO OF THE LIGHT, I EDITED IT TO A SMALLER SIZE AND EMAILED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON 11/17/16 WE RECEIVED A REPLY FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER STATING; THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO VIDEO AND SEND IT TO US REGARDING THE TAILLAMP CONCERN YOU ARE HAVING WITH YOUR 2017 EXPLORER, THE NEXT TIME THE CONCERN DISPLAY ITSELF CONSISTENTLY, A RENTAL AT OUR EXPENSE FOR A DAY TO SEE IF WE CAN ISOLATE THE CAUSE. [XXX] SERVICE MANAGER SUPREME FORD SLIDELL [XXX] [XXX] I REPLIED TO THE DEALERSHIP; [XXX], THE NEW 2017 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED STILL HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT TAIL LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WORKING ABOUT %50 OF THE TIME. I DO NOT THINK THERE WILL BE A TIME WHEN THE TAIL LIGHT WILL "CONSITTANTLY" GO OUT... THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT... THE VIDEO CLIP I SENT YOU IS JUST A SAMPLING OF THE TAIL LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY GOING OUT DURING OUR DRIVE HOME TO DENHAM SPRINGS... I AM CONCERNED WITH DRIVING THE "LEMON VEHICLE" AND BELEIVE THAT FORD NEEDS TO REPLACE THE "LEMON VEHICLE" WITH A PROPER WORKING NEW 2017 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED, WITH A ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AS THE SALESPERSON STATED THE VEHICLE HAD. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
