When i start the vehicle, and press the bbrake and shift into drive, the vehicle shakes and jolts. When I remove my foot from the break to push the gas petle, there is a hesitation/stall out unless I push it quickly. The shaking and jolting occurs when the vehicle is in drive and reverse, but stops when the car is in neutral or park. In order to operate the vehicle in traffice, I have to put it in neutral at stop signs and traffic lights, or it will shake, jolt and stall out. This can not be safe!

On [XXX] as I stopped at the stoplight my car started to shake/shudder when it was green I started to drive and it stopped. Then when I stopped again while in drive I experienced the same thing. Contacted the dealership where I've been servicing my car since I bought it. I was hoping they could take in that day but they were booked. Next available was July 17, 2025. They did a diagnostic on my car and said it was the motor mounts. Had to order the parts and will call when parts are in. Parts came in and it was scheduled. Took them all day and even after shop closed to put the motor mounts on. When I picked it up I was told it was still shaking/shuddering but not as bad. Told me to take it home and see. Called them back to bring it back in due to shaking/shuddering, they did another diagnostic this time its my torque converter. Total with parts and labor $2819.19 plus tax. I started doing some research and found this was a common problem for my type of car. It's on Fords customer satisfaction 20N07. My car fall meets all that is required. Contacted Ford multiple times and was turned down saying there was no recall for mines even though it was manufactured at that specific plant. The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. In addition, while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle jerked before slamming into gear. The check engine warning light was continuously illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was leaking oil onto the ground and the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with coolant intrusion into a cylinder, which caused the engine failure. The spark plugs were replaced. The mechanic also informed the contact that the transmission had failed. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 52,590.

I periodically have unintended acceleration ; it has occurred off and on for the past two years . The Ford dealer said no faults were detected so they can't fix the problem . It most often when I am shifting into reverse then the RPMs increase dramatically and when I put it in neutral they shoot up even more . A few days ago I was putting the car into the garage , waiting for the door to open , with my foot on the brake and the shift in drive when the RPMs started to increase . Feeling the car starting to move I shifted to neutral when the RPMs shot up tremendously . This is a dangerous situation where someone can get injured or killed . Ford should be able to correct the problem !!!

The transmission has totally failed at under 69,000 miles while my wife was driving down a 45 MPH road. The vehicle intermittently lost power and she was nearly rear-ended with my child in the car. All warning lamps came on and the engine totally lost power. 2 shops have looked at the car and stated that the transmission failed completely. There were no warning lamps prior to this occurring.

In November of 2024 my 2017 Ford Explorer XLT began to vibrate and shake immensely when put into drive or reverse. The vehicle was taken to repair shop to diagnose the problem, and I was informed that the codes came back as a FORD recall for a torque converter. The vehicle was taken to Karl Flammer Ford in Florida for another diagnostic and I was informed that there was NO RECALL for a torque converter failure from the Chicago plant where my vehicle was manufactured. Ford Motor Company issued a Customer Satisfaction Program 20N07 for engine and 6F35 transmission, also CSP 20B27 in October 2020. It states that: "this program extends the warranty coverage of the automatic transmission torque converter for (12) months from the RO date of Powertrain Control Module reflash under Customer Satisfaction Program 20B27 (I bought vehicle 2/2021). It also states that: "the vehicles covered by this program are Ford Explorers 2016-2019 from assembly plants Louisville and Chicago, build dates Sept. 29, 2014 through March 3, 2019. However, FORD is not honoring the Customer Satisfaction Program. Basically, I bought a vehicle from a dealership with an existing Power Train problem that could have been repaired under an out of date recall (failure to disclose). My vehicle is now inoperable at 80,000 miles and I have to spend $6,500 for a new transmission that should be covered through FORD. Shame, Shame. This major issue needs to be RECALLED at this point.

Passenger seatbelt frayed, inside electrical goes haywire when cold weather, transmission slipping was rebuilt under warranty lasted one week and is slipping again shifting hard, B panels falling off A panel was recalled but panel wasn’t?

Transmission is not shifting correcting. Will be traveling down the road and loses power, loses it's acceleration. When trying to proceed after making a stop at a light, car will not go. Bucks hard when putting in reverse. I heard there was a recall on the torque converter's awhile back, but I never received any notification about it. Now that I know, the ford dealerships are telling me there are no recalls for this.

The transmission stops switching gears after going 70 mph on the highway no acceleration was possible Just stopped working. I had my kids with me I had a tractor trailer behind me and in front of me and beside me on a very busy highway going 70 mph and the transmission just stopped working no gas was it was just redlining when it was supposed to be accelerating no gears were reached I had to throw it in park throw it back into sports mode they're back into drive they're back into sports mode they're back in the drive before it kicked in and would go all while in the middle of a busy highway and not able to get off the road and declining in speed. The manufacturer or Ford did purchase the vehicle from me and made me roll over my negative equity from that car into a new car was my only option or paying 10 grand to get it fixed. Nothing no lights were displayed no lights came on at all no warning signs nothing Just happened. When I took it in to get it looked at the mechanic immediately told me that I need to trade the car in and that I shouldn't have this vehicle it's transmission has been having multiple issues over four times in one year it was in the shop for transmission issues they told me nothing was wrong and they drove my car 200 mi they gave it back to me not even two weeks later this happened no lights and nothing was pulling on the codes The mechanic Harper from Malloy Ford is the one that told me that I should need to trade it in he contacted the Ford company they offered $2,000 to help with the cost to get the car fixed but it wasn't going to fix the problem from happening again and it was traumatizing to have to go through that with my kids I didn't want to put my kids back in that vehicle because we literally could have died. PLEASE REACH OUT WITH ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS with my phone or email .. THE CAR HAS HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES SINCE I BOUGHT IT.THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AFTER I PURCHASED IT TO PUT ME IN SOMETHING ELSE

I have a 2017 Ford Explorer with a water pump that needs replacing per a Ford dealership. It has 59K. It should last at least 150k. There should be a recall as there are thousands of these vehicles with the internal water pump. Apparently it's a problem if they are no longer making them internal. I want to file a complaint and would like some type of compensation.

Powertrain fail while driving on the highway

Oct 1, 2024

In November of 2020 Ford Motor Company issued a recall on vehicles manufactured in their Chicago plant for transmissions torque converter issues under customer satisfaction program 20B27/20N07 which was in effect until November 30, 2021. It was not until September 2022 that I personally started having issues, I took my vehicle to Bob Bell a Ford Dealership for a check engine light issue and completing their diagnostics they confirmed it was a torque converter issue. However, I was advised that my warranty had just ended and it was no longer under warranty to be fixed and I would have to pay out of pocket. I contacted Ford Customer Support Division and they opened case number [XXX] in reference. They advised me the recall was over and to contact the NHTSA who can investigate the matter and issue a new recall for my vehicle. I am requesting an investigation into this matter and Ford be held liable to replace the transmission as a recall and refund me the $195.00 I paid for the diagnostic fee. The transmission issue has affected a large number of vehicles which Ford obviously were aware of and those owners whose issues started after the expiration date of the program should not be penalized and made to pay out of pocket especially when this is a know problem and documented problem with the Explorers manufactured out of the Chicago plant. The torque convertor is bad, causing my vehicle not to accelerate properly, especially when going uphill and until reaching a sustained speed. It also shudders while at a sustained speed and jerks when going in reverse. Recently, while accelerating onto the highway (from 30mph to 60+ mph) I was almost rear ended due to the vehicle shifting hard and not accelerated at the rate of speed expected. This happens often, but I'm typically able to compensate for it. This time, I was unable to and it almost caused an accident with my 2 minor children in the back seat. I have taken it to my local Ford Service Center. They know that the issue is caused by degraded torque convertor function. Ford issued Customer Satisfaction Program 20B27 and 20N07 previously but is no longer honoring the program- leaving many of us with no resolution. I never received notice of this program, nor was it listed in Oasis for my vehicle (per my service center). Because this was not listed in Oasis, and it doesn't throw any codes when assessed, the problem with the transmission was dismissed a year ago when it wasn't as severe. This is a safety hazard and the NHTSA needs to step in and force Ford to either reopen Customer Satisfaction Program 20B27 and 20N07 or issue a recall.

Took a trip and the torque converter went out while driving down the interstate. Got off at an exit and as soon as we stopped the whole car starting shaking, you could feel it and hear it through the whole car, could see the hood shaking. Pulled into a parking lot thinking the car might cool down and it would be fine again. It did not stop, it has progressively sounded worse, only if the car is idling while in drive or reverse. Had a Ford certified mechanic look at the vehicle and he immediately said it was the torque converter, and that there is a TSB for this problem. TSB 20-2271

Vehicle was at 65K miles and the water pump was leaking. When they went in to fix the water pump they noticed the timing chain had been stretched. Got my car back and not even 2-3 days later I heard a noise (only heard in less than a handful of times prior) and the noise began to be more consistent and found out that my CAM phasers went bad. All prior to reaching 70K miles...my vehicle is still only 67K. Later found documentation that timing chain and CAM phaser should be covered by CA emissions and the dealer is saying that is not the case. My vehicle fits the attached addendum as it was manufactured on [XXX] and in Chicago, IL. Dealer is saying this addendum does not constitute as a warranty document, just a notification. The water pump just went out and left us stranded in 110 weather and the gentleman that own the shop that I took it to told me that he has replaced 13 within 6 months! I have read and studied it and every single customer said the water pump went out at about 70,000 so there needs to be a recall! This is ridiculous!

The transmission/torque converter has a chattering/shuttering issue in certain gears that causes the RPMs to jump and drop randomly causing unpredictable drivability, acceleration and deceleration. The SUV lurches forwards and backwards when the chattering occurs. There is no check engine light to indicate an issue with the powertrain. According to online forums, many other owners of 2016-2019 model year Ford Explorers experienced the same issues as I've described, with documented cases on YouTube of torque converters failing, and other owners being told by ford dealerships that the transmission assembly (including the torque converter) need to be replaced, with quotes from 3000$ to 8000$. My car in particular doesn't even have 130,000 miles yet and was purchased from a city surplus auction where the city maintained the car every 5000 miles or less and performed every recall and Customer Satisfaction Program. I myself have been quoted 2,600$ for a remanufactured replacement transmission and at-least 1000$ in labor for installation by a local mechanic. Temporary fixes performed by the previous owner included adding Lubeguard friction modifier to the transmission fluid which fixed the issue for a short period of time. This fix was performed 3 times before the dealer made them aware the vehicle needs a new transmission that wouldn't be covered under any existing recall or warranty. A damaged torque converter cannot simply be the only part replaced, since broken off friction material will cycle through the automatic transmission valve body and can damage the transmission, requiring an entire rebuild. Due to the location and tools required to access/replace the transmission, it makes it impossible for a home mechanic that can change their own oil, service their own brakes and perform basic maintenance on their vehicle to inspect, test, or diagnose their own torque converter/transmission. A powertrain, with regular maintenance should last the life of the vehicle.

I have replaced all the starter coil packs in my engine and still have the same problem the codes read misfiring on multiple cylinders wich causes the car to lose power and pull back on the transmission while pushing on the gas pedal this is an ongoing problem

2017 Explorer vehicle equipped with a 2.3L engine exhibits a vibration/rough idle when the vehicle is in DRIVE or REVERSE. The vehicle also exhibits a lack of engine revolutions per minute (RPM), lack of acceleration on take off and/or shudder while driving. This may be due to the torque converter overheating causing damage to the torque converter as well as possible internal damage to the transmission.

Mar 27, 2024

My torque convertor has started to fail, extreme vibration when in drive or reverse at a stop, hesitation when trying to take off from a stop, RPMS will redline and the car won't move and then it will slam in to second gear. I have found a recall/customer satisfaction program (20N07) I took the car to a Ford dealership and they confirmed the torque convertor is ruined. I am terrified to drive this car, when the hesitation first happened I was pulling out in to moving traffic and the car would not move then took off very quickly. The vehicle has only been inspected by a Ford dealership where they diagnosed the torque convertor. I believe that this should be considered a safety issue. The hesitation alone could cause an accident when trying to move with the flow of traffic.

- Transmission/torque convertor has and is failing. Results in lack of acceleration during launch, sluggish vehicle operation and shudder - Known issue with this make/model/year of vehicle. Failure of the above began at 40,000 some miles and is presently not driveable at only 67,000 miles without an $8-$10,000 repair for a new transmission. - Confirmed with dealer the above issue and is in writing and submitted Case #CAS-47518676-K5Y6Y7 with Ford directly. Located letter sent to dealerships regarding this very issue dated 10/2020. - Vehicle has not been in any accidents, but am receiving a "warning" light indicating failure.

Since owning vehicle with around 60k, 2 serpentine belts have been replaced, high pressure hose replaced, water pump is now failing. Looking online, this vehicle has been plagued with issues and no recalls? A failing water pump from 2011 models on? Not sure how a car can have over $10k in problems and no recalls.

At somewhere between 100k-123k the water pump started leaking. This was noticed by smelling a faint smell of coolant after driving. Additionally a small leak of orangish fluid was noticed under engine (front passenger side). Given the symptoms I had the vehicle taken to a Ford dealer for inspection where it was confirm from a system pressure test that the water pump had a leak. Additionally I was just outside my warrant coverage to have this covered by Ford (within the years, outside the mileage). After researching, I have found that many others have the same compliant and even a class action has been attempted. Ford needs to offer a recall for this very cost repair and known issue. Water pump failure could cause engine damage, resulting in vehicle failure while operating, which puts the operator at risk on the side of the road or while operating at highway speeds.

Feb 7, 2024

While driving my 2017 Ford Explorer, There was a smell of burnt oil/tire entering my vehicle through the vents. I took it in to the Ford Dealership and I was advised that I needed a brand new transfer case, and the front engine mounts needed to be replaced due to broken seals. This was causing transmission fluid to leak onto other parts (hot) which was causing the smell while I was driving. My vehicle is at 89,000 miles, and if I don't get this replaced, then it will cause transmission failure. I was told that this should not happen on a vehicle with 89,000 miles. The leaking fluid can also cause a fire under the hood. When asked why or how this could happen, I was told it just wasn't "built" well. Cost of repairs will be about $4,500.00. WOW.

Vehicle shutters, jerks and loses acceleration between 50 to 60 miles per hour. Can cause accident with other vehicles behind on freeway or any other circumstance. Have had vehicles behind me almost ram the back of my vehicle when this happens. No warning lights on dash. 12/27/23 Dealer says it’s the Torque Converter. Issue occurs every time during acceleration and deceleration. Has been going on for several years but I didn’t know it was an actual transmission problem. Dealer told me when I purchased vehicle that the car had to learn my driving habits and that’s all it is. Has not been inspected by anyone other than dealer

Transmission is shuttering, had it checks by River City Ford and the tech advised the Torque converter needed to be replaced. After research, the recall 20N07 in October 9, 2020 for torque converter issues was found. After reading the document, the same issues, same motor same transmission is happening to my vehicle. The issues are as stated, vehicles that experience adverse NVH, vibration and/or rough idle in Drive or Reverse, low performance / lack of acceleration during launch, sluggish vehicle operation and shudder while driving. However my vehicle is doing the same thing, has the same 2.3L engine with the 6F35 transmission, but it is not on the recall list. NHTSA should step us and add all Ford Explore with that year, engine and transmission to this recall since the same issues are happening.

While driving cross country, driver began to experience lag in acceleration and delayed shifting. In some cases, noted transmission was not down shifting. At destination, the check engine light came on and we took the vehicle into a Ford dealership for repair. It should be noted that there was a low coolant light just prior to the trip and we filled up approximately a quart to bring it back to serviceable limits. The dealer called after several hours to explain the car would need a new 2.3L EcoBoost engine and new Automatic transmission. The engine had evidence of coolant in the engine/oil. The transmission was diagnosed to have a failure of an internal component. The vehicle was been regularly serviced for the 79000 miles with no previous warning lights. We currently have the vehicle in our garage trying to decide if it's worth fixing for $25000 quoted by the dealer.

kI started experiencing some vibration while in the stopped position while in either reverse or drive. I had a few components replaced (throttle body, spark plugs, ignition coils, and vacuum pump. None of these helped alleviate the symptoms. I also had the transmission flushed. Additional symptoms ensued including, but not limited to, the car failing to accelerate, beginning to lose power while driving, etc. I had a mechanic come to access the vehicle and the Valvoline General Mgr come and confirm the mechanic's findings. The transmission ultimately failed on me while I was driving. The car has been incapacitated for almost 3 weeks to date while I researched the best route for repair. I did contact the Ford Consumer Line about the CSP 20N07. They told me they could not help me even though my symptoms were exactly as described within the verbiage.

Both turbos failed and so did the water pump. Less than 90,000 miles. When the turbos failed, there was smoke from the tailpipes. Then there was noise under the hood. When the water pump failed, there was water leaking under the vehicle. Yes, the problem was diagnosed and fixed by the Ford dealership. One of the turbos was fixed last year. The water pump was fixed in December. The other turbo is waiting to be fixed because Ford changed the part due to manufacturing issues and we are currently going on 3 months without a vehicle. The turbos or water pump failure would have been a catastrophic engine failure at some point. Apparently this is a known issue with the 3.5L EcoBoost engines, but Ford has not issued a recall. Fortunately I have a Blue Oval Certified warranty on my Explorer, so the repair is covered. There were no lamps or warning lights during the part failures. I did not let the car overheat when the water pump was failing.

On 11/21/22, my car ‘lost’ it’s transmission at 72,704 miles. This is when a wrench light came on the dashboard, and the car went into limp mode-putting myself and my 2 children at risk while driving. I was luckily able to pull off the road. When I restarted the car, the light went off and allowed me to slowly drive back to my house. We had it towed to a Ford Dealership for further investigation. Prior to this incident, the car had been having intermittent issues with shifting gears on hills, and an occasionally clunking noise that paired with it. We had taken it to the dealership and asked them to investigate. They told us there were no issues, that the transmission was fine, which meant no codes. We had just had some powertrain issues resolved, due to other lights associated with the terrain management system. The issues continued, intermittently, but we were unable to get into another appointment prior to its failure. Once in, we were informed that it was ‘rare’ and that while they hadn’t fully investigated the issue the prior time-there had been no computer codes to indicate this would happen. So, now we have no car and an $8200 bill to fix it, as quoted by our Ford Dealership

At 60,492 exactly 492 miles after the powertrain warranty expired a wrench on the dash came on and upon further research it was a transmission fault, no power loss noted or change in performance. Key cycle cleared fault, after a little more operating time it would happen again. We took the car to Gosch Ford of Escondido where it was purchased to have the transmission serviced and diagnose the fault. We payed for an filter and oil service for the car and at that time was informed that the transmission did not require any maintenance services until 150,000 miles and that the fault that suddenly presented itself was a torque converter fault & to change out the whole transmission at a cost of 6,000 dollars to us. We reached out to Ford headquarters to plead with them since it prematurely failed before even the first service and we were told too bad so sad for you. Being our only means of transportation my wife had to drive it a bit more to and from work at just prior to our job layoff due to the covid emergency we could not afford 6k in repairs costs and we to this day are curious since many thousands of people have had the same problem across our nation. The same problems are occurring as when your department recalled the ford edge and fusion models. We have power going through the transmission just fine and without any dash warnings whatsoever it will kick itself out of gear then slam indiscriminately back into gear causing a sever health and safety matter during operation. We plead with you to please hear our call and the ones of many many thousands on the Ford Forums that are experinecing the same. Also according to the dealership all recalls have been performed on this vehicle yet the nhtsa site shows nothing has been performed. Thank you very much.

MY DAUGHTER REACHED OVER AND PRESSED THE PUSH TO START BUTTON AS SHE HAS A HUNDRED TIMES AND KILLED THE ENGINE, BUT THIS TIME, WHEN THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO DISENGAGE AND WE WERE SENT ROLLING DOWN THE HILL BEHIND MY TURN AROUND. I TRIED TO CLIMB OVER AND HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. WE WERE FINALLY STOPPED WHEN OUR BACK END SMASHED INTO THE SECOND TREE WE HIT. THAT IS, THE CAR DIED OUT HALFWAY OUT ONTO THE ROADWAY, IT PAUSES FOR SOME SECONDS WHERE THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOTHING. THEN IT PICKS UP BY ITSELF. THE THROTTLE DOES NOTHING. NONE OF THESE ACTIONS ARE DESIRABLE. THESE BEHAVIORS PUT US IN GREAT DANGER. SO LET'S SEE, THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE MORNING I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (MONDAY 01-06-2020). AND, IT HAPPENED ONCE THE 2ND DAY BACK TO ME ON FRIDAY 01-31-2019. BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN FOR YOU IN THE 4 WEEKS YOU HAD IT TO TEST. AMAZING ISN'T IT? WELL, I THINK I'M GOING TO GO ALONG WITH THE MANY OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE THAT REPORT THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT I EXPERIENCE. IN MY CAR, IT'S BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE NEW. I DO BELIEVE FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO BELIEVE THEY'RE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT IT UNTIL THEY'RE MADE TO. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE SAID TO ME: "FORD TOLD US NOT TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS YOU CAN VERIFY IT." SO, YOU JUST DON'T VERIFY IT. IN "FORD THINK" THIS MUST MEAN THE PROBLEM DOESN'T EXIST. THIS PUTS ME IN MIND OF SOME YEARS BACK WHEN CARS WERE TAKING OFF BY THEMSELVES. PINNING, INJURING, AND EVEN KILLING SOME OWNERS. IT'S ODD, BUT IT WAS THE SAME THING BACK THEN. IT'S THE DRIVERS, THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. IT'S NOT OUR CARS, AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M BEING TOLD NOW. IT'S MY DRIVING HABITS. THE SAME HABITS THAT DON'T EFFECT MY OTHER 5 CARS. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT THEN, NOR DO I BELIEVE IT NOW. FORD SEEMS TO HAVE AN ODD MINDSET. TO FIND SOMETHING, YOU HAVE TO BE LOOKING FOR IT. AND, I ALSO REPORTED TO YOU THAT THE SYNC SYSTEM WAS GOING CRAZY, MAKING ADJUSTMENTS THAT WEREN'T NEEDED OR CALLED FOR. IT HAS TO BE CONTINUALLY READJUSTED. DID IT NOT DO THAT EITHER? IT DID IT FOR ME THE MINUTE I STARTED IT UP. THANK YOU, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

PURCHASED 2017 FORD EXPLORER NEW WITH ONLY 549 MILES. 16 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, AT APPROX. 39,000 MILES, TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. 16 MONTHS LATER, AT APPROX. 79,000 MILES, TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AGAIN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE YET ANOTHER FAULTY FORD TRANSMISSION ISSUE, AS I AM A DAILY COMMUTER AND KEEP MY VEHICLES WELL MAINTAINED.

VEHICLE STARTED JERKING, SO TOOK IT TO FORD AFTER SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT AND STILL COULDN'T GET IT SEEN. CLERK SAID IT NEEDED TO STAY OVERNIGHT BUT WILL NOT GIVE ME A LOANER SO LET ME LEAVE WITH THE SAME CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING FORWARD OR IN REVERSE AS I ENTERED A PARKING GARAGE, SO TOWED IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP TO ONLY FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BLOWN AND WILL COST $7K TO REPAIR. THE VEHICLE IS A 2017 WITH 75,000 MILES, BOUGHT NEW AND WITH NO ISSUES UNTIL NOW. CLERK STATED IT IS OUTSIDE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY OF 5 YEARS 60,000 MILES. HOWEVER THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD AS THEY ARE GOING THROUGH A LAWSUIT NOW DUE TO THEIR TRANSMISSIONS BUT WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE.

TAKATA RECALL AFTER PURCHASING 2017 EXPLORER NOTICED SEVERE HEADACHES, DIGESTION PROBLEMS, DROWSINESS, DIFFICULTY FOCUSING DUE TO CARBON MONOXIDE ENTERING THE CABIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL BUT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THAT THEY SOLVED THE ISSUE. ALSO NOTICED A RUMBLING SOUND UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHEN TURNING LEFT UNDER ACCELERATION, FEELING LIKE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. WOULD NEVER EXPECT SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO OCCUR ON A $47K CAR WITH ONLY 30K MILES.

FORD EXPLORER TRANSMISSION COMPLAINT I TOOK MY 2017 FORD EXPLORER INTO FORD DEALER AND EXPLAINED ABOUT A SHIFTING PROBLEM BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR THE BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING DURING TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSTICS IN OCTOBER OF 2017 I STARTED EXPERIENCING THE JERKING PROBLEM AGAIN EXCEPT THIS TIME IT WAS DURING MY FIRST MORNING START UP AND ACCELERATING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND WOULD GET A SUBSTANTIAL JERK. AGAIN TECHNICIAN FOUND NOTHING. PROBLEM CONTINUED ON MORNING START UPS AND DECIDED TO TAKE BACK INTO THE FORD DEALER A 3RD TIME FOR DIAGNOSTICS WITH WARMER WEATHER NOW, JUNE 12, 2019, THIS TIME THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPERIENCED THE JERK AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF THE CAR SITTING AFTER SERVICING THE EXPLORER FOR OTHER RECALL NOTICES. PARKED CAR OVERNIGHT AND WHEN THE TRANSMISSION TECHNICIAN STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND ACCELERATED, HE EXPERIENCE THE SAME JERK BETWEEN GEARS. FINALLY SOMEONE BELIEVES I AM HAVING A PROBLEM!! FORD DEALER TRANSMISSION TECHNICIAN PERFORMED DIAGNOSTICS AGAIN AND STILL NOTHING FOUND. FORD DEALER DECIDED TO CHECK TROUBLE SHOOTING BOARD FROM FORD SERVICE BULLETINS AND FOUND INFORMATION IDENTIFYING THE CONDITION CAUSE WHICH ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION WILL FOLLOW.*DT CONSUMER STATED TRANSMISSON PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 59,438.*JB

THE CAR LURCHES FOR THE FIRST 40-50 FEET AT SLOW SPEEDS WHILE APPLYING MINIMAL PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT HAPPENS THE INITIAL TIME PUTTING IT IN DRIVE AFTER EACH ENGINE START, REGARDLESS OF PUTTING IT IN REVERSE FIRST OR NOT. IT USED TO ONLY HAPPEN AFTER EVERY FEW STARTS, BUT HAS PROGRESSED TO EVERY SINGLE TIME NOW AND SOME CAN BE VERY AGGRESSIVE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE ISSUE 5 TIMES NOW, WITH THE 5TH TIME RESULTING IN THEM SAYING IT IS A "NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE VEHICLE, WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO EXPLAIN WHAT IS CAUSING IT. I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE "DOESN'T KNOW WHY IT IS DOING IT, BUT IT'S NORMAL." HE THEN PROCEEDED TO COMPARE THE CHARACTERISTIC TO SOMEONE POORLY RELEASING THE CLUTCH ON A MANUAL VEHICLE AND AGAIN, STILL CLAIMING THAT EVERYTHING IS PERFECTLY NORMAL.

WHEN GEAR IS ENGAGED IN 'D' WITH ENGINE ON, VEHICLE MOVES WITHOUT FOOT ON THROTTLE. WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED TO STOP IT, THERE COMES A LOUD VIBRATION FROM THE ENGINE WHICH BECOMES NERVOUS AND TRIES TO DRAG VEHICLE FORWARD UNLESS GEAR IS PUT IN 'N' OR 'P'. IT HAPPENS ANYTIME VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WITH ENGINE RUNNING INCLUDING STOP SIGNS AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS. NO CHECK LIGHT ON DASHBOARD. PHENOMENON OBSERVED IN EARLY FEBRUARY 2019.

UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT WHILE IN PARK - ALSO NOISE FROM TRANSMISSION WHEN SLOWING DOWN

Mileage: 7,000

Apr 9, 2018

VEHICLE SURGE ON FIRST ACCELERATION AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE. SURGE - THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES AN ACCELERATING LUNGE FORWARD AND THEN STOPS FOR ABOUT TWO OR THREE CYCLES (STOP/START, STOP/START ETC.) IT IS UNEXPECTED AND UNCONTROLLABLE UNTIL IT SUBSIDES WITHIN 20 TO 30 FEET. THE DEGREE OF THE UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION IS EXCESSIVE WHEN COMPARED TO THE SLIGHT APPLICATION OF THE GAS PEDAL CONDITIONS - HAPPENS ONLY AFTER THE FIRST STARTUP OF THE ENGINE, IN WARMER WEATHER WHEN THE "CHOKE" IS NOT REQUIRED. EXAMPLE: START ENGINE, BACK OUT OF GARAGE, PLACE IN FIRST GEAR, ACCELERATE SLOWLY FOR THE FIRST TIME. THIS IS WHEN THE SURGE IS EXPERIENCE. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH EVERY STOP/START CYCLE DURING NORMAL DRIVING, LIKE STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT HAPPENS ONLY AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, AND GOING FORWARD FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE PRIMARY PROBLEM IS THE DEGREE OF THE UNCONTROLLED, OSCILLATING ACCELERATION RELATIVE TO THE SLIGHT AMOUNT THAT THE GAS PEDAL IS APPLIED. IT IS NOT ABOUT AN OVERLY SENSITIVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT ABOUT THE ENGINE SURGING, THEN DYING OFF, THEN SURGING AGAIN.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WYNNE FORD (1020 W MERCURY BLVD, HAMPTON, VA 23666, 757- 838-3673). THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, BUT STATED THAT NOTHING WAS MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200.

2017 FORD EXPLORER ECOBOOST WITH APPROXIMATELY 8800 MILES STARTED MAKING A WHINNING NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. NOTICED MAKING RIGHT TURNS THE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WOULD DISENGAGE AND ABRUPTLY ENGAGE AS IF THROWN IN NEUTRAL THEN SLAMMED INTO DIRIVE. TAKING OFF FROM LIGHT WOULD DO SIMILAR ISSUE. IN A COUPLE OF EVENTS, VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE AND WAS IN TURNING LANE WITH TRAFFIC APPROACHING ALMOST CAUSING TO GET T BONED. EXPLORER HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER AND TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SERVICED TWICE WITH THE TRANSMISSION SKIPPING GEARS OR SHIFTING NORMAL UNTIL A STOP AND ENGAGES 5TH GEAR, STAYS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR.

I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY TO MAKE A LEFT. ONCE LIGHT CHANGED, I STEPPED ON THE GAS AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. I THEN HEARD A LOUD "THUMP" AND THOUGHT I'D BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS THE TRANSMISSION, SLAMMED INTO GEAR AND PROCEEDED TO MOVE AT ABOUT 2-3 MPH. IT NEVER REGAINED SPEED. AS I MADE MY TURN, I WAS STUCK ON ANOTHER MAJOR ROAD AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I PLACED IN NEUTRAL AND HEARD THE LOUD "THUMP" AGAIN AS THE TRANS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. ONCE THE TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGED, I PUT THE VEHICLE BACK INTO "DRIVE" AND YET AGAIN, A LOUD "THUMP" AS IT SLAMMED INTO DRIVE. VEHICLE AGAIN PROCEEDED TO MOVE AT A SNAILS PACE, AT ABOUT 2-3 MPH. FINALLY ON THE DASH I GOT A "WRENCH" LIGHT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AS WELL. I PULLED OVER ON A SIDE STREET AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND WHEN I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, NEUTRAL AND THEN DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION SLAMMED INTO GEAR ON EACH OF THEM VERY HARD. I PROCEEDED TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND CALL A TOW SERVICE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DROPPED OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP. MIGHT I ADD THAT THIS IS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 1045 MILES....THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE!!!!!

MY 2017 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH BASE 3.5 V6 HAS BEEN HARD TO START FROM THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNERSHIP. IT HAS LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT NOW AND ISN'T FIXED. FORD DEALERSHIP STATED IT WOULD HAVE TO GET WORSE BEFORE THEY COULD FIX IT. VEHICLE SHOWS NO DTC'S OR ANY HISTORY! MY WIFE HAS REFUSED TO DRIVE IT OUT OF TOWN DUE TO THE FEAR OF IT NOT STARTING AT ALL. WE HAVE RECORDED OVER 30 VIDEOS OF IT NOT STARTING AND HAVE SENT VIDEOS TO FORD MOTOR CO. WITH THE SAME RESPONSE, CANT FIX IT IF IT ISN'T BROKE. APPARENTLY IT WILL HAVE TO EITHER BREAK SOMETHING INTERNALLY AND LEAVE MY WIFE AND CHILD STRANDED, BEFORE IT WILL BE DIAGNOSED. IT IS A $40000 LEMON THAT TAKES 3-4 TIMES ATTEMPTING TO START BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL RUN. THIS WEEKEND IT TOOK AT LEAST 30-40 SECONDS BEFORE VEHICLE STARTED, THEN IT WOULD NOT IDLE CORRECTLY! STILL NO DTC'S! VEHICLE DOES THIS NO MATTER THE LENGTH OF TIME ENGINE HAS RUN OR LEVEL OF FUEL? IT DOES IT DURING REMOTE START OR THE PUSH BUTTON. IT DOES AT TIMES HAVE A STRONG ODOR OF GAS AFTER START-UP, ALMOST AS IF IT WAS FLOODED? AS A PERSON IN THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR WORLD, THE ABSENCE OF CONCERN FROM FORD IS SHOCKING! SO INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CORRECT A ISSUE BEFORE IT BECOMES A DANGER, THEY WOULD RATHER IT BECOME DANGEROUS AND THEN REPAIR IT? IF IT IS A FUEL RELATED ISSUE, THEN THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE VEHICLE IS GETTING WORSE, BUT AS SAID EARLIER, IT WILL HAVE TO COMPLETELY NOT START BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. FORD MOTOR CO HAS NOT BEEN VERY HELPFUL, AND NOW I AM PROUD OWNER OF VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT START CORRECTLY.

UPON PARKING OUR BRAND NEW EXPLORER IN OUR DRIVEWAY (IT HAS A 10 DEGREE SLANT), WE TURNED OFF THE KEYLESS/PUSH BUTTON IGNITION, BUT MY HUSBAND ACCIDENTALLY HAD IT IN DRIVE. OUR SMALL CHILDREN WERE UNCLIPPING THEIR SEATBELTS AND STARTING TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN MY HUSBAND TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE AND IGNITION OFF, IT ROLLED BACK VERY QUICKLY DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY TO OUR SMALL CHILDREN HAD THEY OPENED THEIR DOORS. I CALLED FORD.COM WHO TOLD ME TO CALL THE DEALER. I CALLED DEALER. THEY TOOK ONE OF THEIR 2017 EXPLORERS FROM THE LOT AND TRIED TO GET IT TO ROLL IN GEAR AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND THEIR VEHICLE ALSO DID IT. IN REVERSE AND IN DRIVE. THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO "MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT IN PARK BEFORE YOU TURN IT OFF." SOME ONE IS GOING TO DIE!!! EVEN IF I WOULD MAKE IT OUT BEFORE GETTING RUN OVER, MY BABY IN A CAR SEAT IN THE BACK OF THE CAR WOULD BE ROLLED INTO THE BUSY STREET WITHIN A MATTER OF SECONDS!! KILLING HER AND ANY ONCOMING CAR OR TRUCK!!! ALSO, THIS SAME EXPLORER- WITH ONLY 800 MILES ON IT, HAD ITS TRANSMISSION FALL OFF THE MOUNT AND LAND ON THE AXLE AND BROKE THE AXLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. HEARD BANGING SOUNDS, THEN THEY GOT LOUDER, THEN THE STEERING GOT HARD, THEN IT FELT LIKE IT WAS FALLING APART-ALL IN THE MATTER OF 1 MILE ON A CITY STREET GOING 25MPH. NOT SURE IF WE JUST GOT A LEMON HERE? PUT THE GEAR/ROLLING AFTER ENGINE OFF IF NOT IN PARK IS VERY, VERY SERIOUS AND NEEDS TO ME LOOKED INTO BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!!!!!!! I DON'T HAVE THE REPAIR SHEET TO SCAN BECAUSE A WEEK AFTER THE TRANMISSION/AXLE WERE REPAIRED, IT STARTED VIBRATING AND SWERVING WHEN I WAS BRAKING, SO IT'S BACK IN THE SHOP. WE'VE OWNED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS AND IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THAT TIME. THIS SPECIFIC MODEL IS THE 2017 FORD EXPLORER SPORT. FORD.COM WAS INFORMED OF THIS.
