ON MONDAY I NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL COMING FROM THE REAR TANK (DUAL TANK SYSTEM) OF MY TRUCK. TUESDAY AFTER SWITCHING GAS USE FROM THE FRONT TO REAR WHEN I STOPPED AT A LOCAL STORE, GAS WAS DRIBBLING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED OUT OF THE GAS CAP AREA FROM MY REAR TANK. BY THE TIME I GOT HOME PRESSURE CAUSED THE GAS TO PRACTICALLY EXPLODE OUT OF THE GAS CAP BY THE GALLONS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO BE CALLED TO ENSURE THAT MOVING THE TRUCK DID NOT START A FIRE AND TO CLEAN THE SPILL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, IT APPEARS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL THROUGH FORD FOR EARLIER DUAL TANK MODELS FOR THE SAME ISSUE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER :93V125000). MANY OTHER 1994 F-150 OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE BUT A RECALL HAS NOT YET BEEN ISSUED (EXAMPLE: NHTSA COMPLAINT # 10533605). I ASSURE YOU THAT THIS WAS INDEED A HUGE FIRE HAZARD! ACCORDING TO YOUR FILES, IN 1993, FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE THROUGH RECALL 93V-125. WHY HAVEN'T OTHER OWNERS WITH DUAL TANKS BEEN NOTIFIED? IN ADDITION, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN ANOTHER RECALL FOR LATER FORD MODELS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED HIS VEHICLE HAD DUEL FUEL TANKS AND WHILE IT WAS PARKED HE NOTICED FUEL LEAKING. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BOTH FUEL TANKS WERE FULL THE FRONT TANK WOULD PUMP FUEL INTO THE BACK TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 162,000. THE CURRENT APPROXIMATE MILEAGE IS 163,000. UPDATED 9/17/13*CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN BOTH TANKS WERE OVER HALF FULL, WHILE DRIVING, THE FRONT TANK WOULD RUN THE TRUCK AND AT THE SAME TIME, PUMP EXTRA FUEL INTO THE REAR TANK, CAUSING GAS TO OVER FLOW FROM THE GAS GAP, AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH DUEL FUEL TANKS AND FUEL OVERFLOWING FROM THE REAR FUEL TANK INTO THE FRONT FUEL TANK WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL FILLER OVERFLOWED BECAUSE ONE OF THE DUAL FUEL TANKS WAS SENDING TOO MUCH FUEL TO THE OTHER TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO ORDER THE PROPER PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH THE FUEL TANK FOR THE 1993 MODEL YEAR EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS A 1994 MODEL. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

MY WIFE WAS AT A GAS STATION FILLING UP BOTH TANKS IN THE TRUCK. WHEN SHE TRIED TO START IT, IT WOULD NOT START. THE GAS ATTENDANT CAME OUT AND RAISED THE HOOD AND GAS WAS COMING OUT OF THE OVERFLOW CANISTER. HE GOT A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND SPRAYED IT DOWN. WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2 TANK VALVE WHICH WAS PUSHING GAS INTO THE FRONT TANK AND WITH NO WHERE TO GO IT CAME OUT UNDER THE HOOD IN THE OVER FLOW CANISTER. BUT WE WERE TOLD OUR VIN # WAS NOT MADE AT A CERTAIN PLANT. BUT IF THIS IS A FACTORY FAULT WHY WOULD IT HAVE TO BE MADE AT A CERTAIN PLANT. WE COULD NOT EFFORD TO FIX ON OUR OWN AND WERE TOLD TO FILL THE FRONT TANK ONLY. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY WIFE FORGETS AND FILLS BOTH TANKS AGAIN WITH OUR CHILDREN INSIDE. I THINK FORD MOTOR CO SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM.SOME HOW THIS MAKES THE TRUCK HARD TO START. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND HAVE DRIVEN THE TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE VEHICLE WAS 60 MILES AWAY WHEN THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE FUEL GAUGE GOING DOWN FASTER THAN NORMAL.THE CONSUMER. WHEN THE CONSUMER REACHED HIS DESTINATION HE NOTICED THE FUEL LOST AMOUNTED TO 9 TO 13 GALLONS. HE STEPPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FUEL RUNNING DOWN THE FENDER TOWARDS THE GROUND. MY F-150 HAS HAD NOISY BRAKES THAT VIBRATE, WEAR EXCESSIVELY FAST AND STOP POORLY SINCE MY FATHER BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW, I HAVE REPLACED PADS, ROTORS17 TIMES,AND CALIPERS TWICE, MY FATHER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THEM BUT FORD REFUSES TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. MY REAR FUEL TANK SENDS ALL THE FUEL TO THE FRONT TANK WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, UNTIL THE FRONT TANK IS FULL, THEN IT SPILLS ALL OVER THE GROUND CAUSING A FIRE HAZARD. FORD ADMITTED THAT SOME 1993 TRUCKS HAD THIS PROBLEM AND RECALLED SOME OF THEM BUT SAID THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED AND MY 1994 TRUCK CAN'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM BUT EVERYONE I KNOW WITH A 1994 F-150 HAS THIS PROBLEM, AND WHEN I CHECKED ON FORDTRUCKS.COM, MANY 1994 F150 OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, ALSO MANY 1994 F150 OWNERS ALSO HAD MY SAME AIRBAG PROBLEM. FRONT FUEL TANK LEAKS JUST ABOVE SEAM LINE APPROX 1AND1/2 INCHES ABOVE SEAM. THE SEAM IS AT AN ANGLE.THE FRONT OF THE TANK IS PITTED. THERE IS A PROTECTIVE COVER ON THE FRONT THAT IS MOLDED TO THE SHAPE OF THE TANK .THERE ARE NO DRAIN HOLES IN THE COVER. IF THE COVER IS PUSHED ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE SEAM THE WATER WILL STAY ABOVE THE SEAM. THE DESIGN DOES NOT ALLOW MOISTURE TO RUN OFF IF THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN A FOWARD PITCH AS MINE IS AT MY HOME.ALSO IF YOU LOOK IN BETWEEN THE BED AND THE CAB , AT THAT POINT YOU SEE THAT THE TANK SLOPES FOWARD TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO AT THAT POINT YOU SEE THE PROTECTIVE COVER JUST AT THE CAB LINE. HAD THE COVER GONE PAST THE BEDLINE MORE THAN LIKELY THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAPPEN. THIS PROBLEM WAS CAUSE FOR A RECALL FROM 1990 THROUGH 1993, THIS RECALL (#93S68) WAS PUT OUT IN SEPT. OF 1993. MY TRUCK WAS BUILT IN SEPT. OF 1993, IT'S LISTED AS A 1994 MODEL THUS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BY FORD. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM, FUEL SPILLAGE FROM OVER FILLED TANK DUE TO A DAMAGED CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL PUMP/SENDER ASSEMBLY. THE DANGER IS NO LESS THAN IT WAS ONE MONTH PRIOR FOR TRUCKS WITH THIS PROMBLEM WHICH WERE UNDER RECALL. I HAVE CALLED 3 FORD DEALERS IN MY AREA NONE WERE WILLING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRS. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE MY TRUCK WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I THEN ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD DO NO GOOD BECAUSE THAT WAS FORDS POLICY AND IT DIDN'T MATTER WHO I SPOKE TO. I WILL BE WRITTING TO FORD PRESENTLY TO INFORM THEM IN WRITTING AT LEAST FOR THE RECORD.
