TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH THE CLUTCH FELL TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE BUSHING THAT DETAINS THE ROD TO THE MASTER CYLINDER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY DISINTEGRATED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE FAILURE RECURRED TEN TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

AT TIMES, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT TO 1ST,2ND, 3RD, OR 4TH GEARS AFTER THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. THIS IS AN INTERMITENT PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE VERY QUICKLY. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND WITHIN A FEW MONTHS HAD TO TAKE IT BACK FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE SYNCHRONOUS MECHANISM WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM NEVER WENT AWAY. I TOOK IT BACK AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF THE ORIGINAL REPAIR BECAUSE THERE STILL EXISTED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN I SPOKE TO SAID THAT THIS WOULD GO AWAY ONCE THE GEARS WORE A LITTLE. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED. AND HERE WE ARE. *AK

OCCASIONALLY IT WILL SHIFT SMOOTHLY, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT AMOUNT OF POWER IS APPLIED IT SHIFTS EITHER HARSH OR SMOOTH WHEN IT WANTS TO. CHANGED FLUID AND FOUND COURSE ALUMINUM SHAVINGS IN PAN, BUT ONLY EXTREMELY FINE FERROUS METAL PARTICLES ON MAGNET. AFTER INITIAL FLUID CHANGES(I HAVE DONE SEVERAL) THE TRANSMISSION OPERATES SMOOTHLY FOR ABOUT THE FIRST 20 TO 30 MILES THEN BEGINS SHIFTING HARSH AGAIN. *AK
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

ORIGINAL LOCKING HUBS WERE REPLACED IN JULY OF 1997. THEY WERE LOCKING THEMSELVES IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WITH NO INPUT FROM DRIVER TO DO SO. MILEAGE ON VEHICLE WAS 42,508. MILEAGE IS NOW 67,000, AND THESE HUBS ARE NOW DOING THE SAME THING. COST ESTIMATE TO FIX PROBLEM IS AROUND $600. I THINK FORD SHOULD PICK UP THE TAB FOR THIS REPAIR. *AK
CONSUMER HAS A FIVE SPEED TRANSMISSION, AND 1ST AND 2 GEARS JUST GAVE OUT. THERE IS NO 1 AND 2 GEARS AT ALL. . DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
THE CLUTCH SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY LOOSES FLUID LEADING TO NO CLUTCH PEDAL (STAYS ON FLOOR). THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, ADDING FLUID TO THE RESERVOIR TEMPORARILY ELIMINATES THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO THE ONLY TWO OTHER PERSONS THAT I KNOW THAT OWN LIKE VEHICLES (F150, 94-95, MANUAL TRANS). THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE YOU ARE UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS.
