CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL REPAIRS NOT BEING COMPLETED *TGW THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ONE OF THE TWO STRAPS WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED AND JUST HANGING THERE AND NOT SUPPORTING ANYTHING. THEREFORE, THE GAS TANK WAS BEING HELD IN PLACE BY ONLY ONE STRAP. THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIRS DUE TO THE CORROSION, AS IT HAD AFFECTED THE FRAME WHERE THE GAS TANK ATTACHED TOO. THE CONSUMER STATED EVER SINCE HE WENT TO THE DEALER, THERE IS AN ODOR OF GAS EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. *JB

I BROUGHT IN MY 1999 FORD F150 TO GET AN INSPECTION AND GET A RECALL PERFORMED ON THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE GAS TANK ON. THE GARAGE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 6 DAYS BEFORE THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY IN FACT COULD NOT PERFORM THE SAFETY UPGRADE BECAUSE THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK HAS TOO MUCH RUST. I BELIEVE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS RESPONSABLE FOR NOT PROVIDING ADEQUETTE PROTECTION FRO THE ELEMENTS ON THE FRAMES OF THIS MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ONLY RESPONSABLE FOR THE GAS TANK STRAPS AND NOT THE FRAME SO THEY WERE NOT REQUIRING THEIR DEALERSHIP TO DO THE UPGRADES. WHEN MY BEST FRIENDS 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA HAD THE SAME EACT PROBLEM ON HIS TRUCK THE TOYOTA COMPANY PAID TO PUT A NEW FRAME ON HIS TRUCK DUE TO A RECALL OF THE FRAME. THE REST OF MY FORD TRUCK IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND HAS AROUND 120,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK EXCEPT FOR THE FRAME. BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE THE ONLY REAL CHOICE I HAVE AT THIS POINT IS TO SCRAP THE TRUCK AND BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TR

I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE STRAPS ARE BAD AND I ALSO HAVE A LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK . THE TANK IS EXTREMELY RUSTED WHERE THE STRAPS ARE ON THE TANK. THE CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE STRAPS APPEAR TO SPREAD TO ONLY THE PART OF THE TANK WHERE THE STRAPS TOUCH. FORD DOES NOT SEEM CONCERNED WITH THIS PROBLEM, SO I AM TURNING TO YOU FOR HELP AND ADVICE. *KB

THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT THE BOLT REPAIRED IF IT WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

GAS LEAKING FROM BACK END OF GAS TANK. GAS TANK RUSTED THROUGH ON BACK OF TANK WERE A PLASTIC SHIELD WAS AFIXED BY FORD. REMOVED PLASTIC SHIELD AND ENTIRE END OF GAS TANK RUSTED AND LEAKING. BRUSHED AWAY LOOSE RUST AND MULTIPLE HOLES APPEARED AND GAS POURED OUT. THE PLASTIC SHIELD HAS A SPACE BETWEEN IT AND THE TANK WHICH COLLECTS DIRT/SNOW AND ROAD SALT CAUSING THE GAS TANK TO FAIL AND LEAK. THE REST OF THE GAS TANK IS SOUND EXCEPT FOR THE STRAPS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE. FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE STRAPS. FORD SHOULD CONSIDER THE ENTIRE GAS TANK FOR RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS PLASTIC COVER THAT CAUSE THE GAS TANK TO FAIL AND LEAK. A VERY SERIOUS DANGER OF FIRE. *TR

VEHICLE IS ON CURRENT RECALL FOR STRAP SECURING THE GAS TANK RUSTING. NOT ONLY THE STRAPS ARE RUSTING BUT THE GAS TANK IS ALSO RUSTING. WHEN ONE OF MY STRAPS BROKE THE GAS TANK DROPPED 2 ". BOTH STRAPS WERE REPLACED AND THEN GAS TANK STARTED TO LEAK. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THE GAS TANKS ALSO BE CHECKED FOR RUSTING BY THE SUPPORT STRAPS. I HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW GAS TANK TO GET MY TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD SAFELY.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE OWNER PURCHASED NEW STRAPS FROM AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 200,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 1999 FORD F150 TRUCK (APPROX. 145,000 ODOMETER MILES) AT 35 MPH WHEN ONE (PROBABLY THE FRONT), OR BOTH, GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE. SHE DRAGGED THE TANK ABOUT 300 YARDS BEFORE STOPPING. BOTH STRAPS WERE BROKEN BY THAT TIME AND THE TANK WAS ON THE GROUND WITH A DEEP DENT THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL AND THE METAL SCRAPED CLEAN IN THE FRONT RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER OF THE TANK. IN ATTEMPTING TO STRAP UP THE TANK, THE DAMAGED PORTION WAS SCRAPED ON THE GROUND, WHICH OPENED A SEAM UP AND FUEL BEGAN LEAKING. I HAD TO UNBOLT AND TAKE OUT THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL LINE FITTINGS. THE FUEL INTAKE HOSE WAS SNAPPED OFF. I HAD TO CLIP/CUT THE FUEL SENSOR WIRES BECAUSE I COULDN'T UNLATCH THE SENSOR WIRES. ANOTHER SMALL HOSE CAME OFF (FUEL OVERFLOW HOSE?) EASILY. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PULL THE TANK OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND DRAIN THE LEAKING GASOLINE INTO A GAS CAN AND HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED. A USED TANK WAS FOUND WITH THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP IN IT TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED TANK AND A NEW GAS GAUGE SENSOR ATTACHED. *KB

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 1999 FORD F150 TRUCK (APPROX. 145,000 ODOMETER MILES) AT 35 MPH WHEN ONE (PROBABLY THE FRONT), OR BOTH, GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE. SHE DRAGGED THE TANK ABOUT 300 YARDS BEFORE STOPPING. BOTH STRAPS WERE BROKEN BY THAT TIME AND THE TANK WAS ON THE GROUND WITH A DEEP DENT THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL AND THE METAL SCRAPED CLEAN IN THE FRONT RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER OF THE TANK. IN ATTEMPTING TO STRAP UP THE TANK, THE DAMAGED PORTION WAS SCRAPED ON THE GROUND, WHICH OPENED A SEAM UP AND FUEL BEGAN LEAKING. I HAD TO UNBOLT AND TAKE OUT THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL LINE FITTINGS. THE FUEL INTAKE HOSE WAS SNAPPED OFF. I HAD TO CLIP/CUT THE FUEL SENSOR WIRES BECAUSE I COULDN'T UNLATCH THE SENSOR WIRES. ANOTHER SMALL HOSE CAME OFF (FUEL OVERFLOW HOSE?) EASILY. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PULL THE TANK OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND DRAIN THE LEAKING GASOLINE INTO A GAS CAN AND HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED. A USED TANK WAS FOUND WITH THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP IN IT TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED TANK AND A NEW GAS GAUGE SENSOR ATTACHED. *KB

ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2010, I WAS DRIVING ON A DIRT ROAD AT SPEEDS OF UNDER 25 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THAT CAUSED IT TO HIT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. SINCE WE WERE MANY MILES FROM AN AUTO PARTS STORE, WE USED A SMALL RACHET STRAP TO KEEP THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE. ON AUGUST 9, 2010, A RELATIVE OF MINE SAW THE REAR OF THE TANK HANGING A FEW INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND. THE STRAP BROKE BECAUSE OF OBVIOUS EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE CORROSION ON THE TANK WHERE IT CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE STRAP WAS ALSO EXCESSIVE. AS A RESULT, I REPLACED THE TANK AND BOTH STRAPS WITH AFTER-MARKET PARTS. *TR

1999 FORD F150 2WD TRUCK WITH 80,000 MILES THE FUEL TANK FELL OUT OF THE TRUCK. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS HAS CORRODED APART. WHEN RE-INSTALLING NEW STRAPS, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL FILL TUBE WAS CORRODED, AS WELL, WITH SEVERAL HOLES IN IT. ALSO, WHILE RE-ATTACHING FUEL TANK IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR THREE CROSS-MEMBERS WERE ON THERE WAY TO CORRODING INTO TWO PIECES, AND HAD ALREADY COMPLETELY BROKEN IN OTHER PLACES. UPON REMOVAL OF PICK-UP TRUCK BED FOR EXAMINATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE PINS HAD CORRODED AWAY, LEAVING NO SUPPORT. FURTHER, THE FRAME RAILS WERE CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY COULD BE BENT BY HAND- NO TOOLS USED! THIS SHOULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY RECALL BY FORD AS AN UNSUSPECTING USER HAULING A TRAILER MAY LOOSE THEIR TRAILER, DESPITE SAFETY CHAINS ATTACHED, CAUSING INJURY, OR DEATH, AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. AN UNSUSPECTING DRIVER WOULD ALSO BE SUBJECT TO THE FUEL TANK FALLING OFF THE TRUCK, WHILE DRIVING. IT COULD BURST INTO FLAMES, DUE TO HOT EXHAUST, OR ROAD SPARKS. THIS ALSO POSES THE SAFETY HAZARD OF FUEL SPILLAGE ON A ROADWAY. AND NOW THE DEALER TELLS ME I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS IS ONE WEEK AFTER I SPENT OVER 500 REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS, FUEL FILTER, AND GETTING THE FUEL INJECTORS CLEANED. I HAVE ONLY 58,000 MILES ON THE THING AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE PLUGS DON'T NEED TO BE TOUCHED FOR 100,000 MILES. WELL IT WAS MISSING AND THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK SLAMS INTO GEAR BETWEEN 1 AND 2, AND NOW THE PROBLEM IS MY TRANSMISSION IS BAD. AT 58,000 MILES? AND I'VE NEVER EVEN TOWED ANYTHING. JUST REGULAR WEAR AND TEAR?
