AROUND 1:30AM ON THURSDAY NOV. 24TH, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY NEIGHBOR SAYING MY TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THAT IT LOOKED LIKE IT STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN DRIVEN TO THE STORE THE MORNING BEFORE THE FIRE, AND WAS PARKED AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE.

MY REAR DOORS ON MY FORD, F-150 CREW CAB PICKUP STOPPED OPENING. THIS IS AN ENTRAPMENT ISSUE AND A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, PASSENGERS IN THE REAR WOULD BE TRAPPED AND UNABLE TO ESCAPE. FROM THE RESEARCH I FOUND ON THE INTERNET, THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE CABLE MECHANISM THAT OPERATES THE REAR DOOR LATCHES AND COMMON FAULT WITH THESE TYPE OF DOOR FOR THE FORD PICKUPS MANUFACTURED AROUND THIS TIME FRAME. AND IT LOOKS LIKE FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS FOR FORD TO REPAIR DUE TO THE ENTRAPMENT ISSUE.

VIN DOES NOT MATCH MY TRUCK, TRYING TO FIX IT BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ENGINE PARTS, ELECTRICAL,OR OTHERWISE TO PURCHASE. SUPPOSED TO BE A 1999 FORD F-150 XLT 4X4 . VIN COMES UP ASINVALID AND CHECK DIGIT IS INCORRECT. ONLINE SEARCH INDICATES 4 DIFFERENT ENGINES, TWO TRANSMISSIONS (5SPD MANUAL AND AUTO) NEITHER OF WHICH ARE THE FORD MOTOR CO. EXPERIMENTAL TRANSMISSION THAT FORD PUT IN THAT TRUCK. SOLD AS A 1999 ON FORD C.O. MINE WEIGHS 1500LBS LESS THAN WHAT IT SHOULD. ALL FAILING EXPERIMENTAL PARTS THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE, BUT DONT HAVE A CLUE WHAT TO BUY DUE TO "EXPERIMENTAL" PART #'S. EMAILED FORD MANY TIMES FOR ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING ENGINE AS THERE ARE NO BLOCK CASTINGS. NO RETUN CALL OR EMAIL. IM A SINGLE MOM OF 2. MY VEHICLE FAILED PA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO ROTTED OUT CORNERS OF THE FENDERS & RADIATOR SUPPORT ASSY. AND IS DEEMED UN-DRIVABLE AND UN-USABLE EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION . THIS ASSY GOES ACROSS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, HOLDS THE RADIATOR & AID COND CORES IN THE MIDDLE, AND ATTACHES TO BOTH FRONT BENDERS VIA SPOT WELDS AND IT'S LOWER CORNERS ATTACH TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK VIA SHOCK MOUNTS AND 2 LARGE BOLTS THUS ALSO SUPPORTING THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE TRUCK ATTACHING IT TO THE FRAME . WITH BOTH LOWER CORNERS OF THIS ASSY ROTTED AWAY THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK IS NOW FLOATING & SUSPENDED AND IS NOW NOT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK THUS THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND ESPECIALLY ON IMPACT IF IN A FRONTAL ACCIDENT . THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE ON F150'S ALL THE WAY UP TO 2006 . THE "CAUSE" OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PLASTIC FENDER WELLS DO NOT COME DOWN FAR ENOUGH IN THE FRONT SO WATER, SNOW, SLUSH, AND SALT ARE FLUNG FORWARD BY THE FRONT TIRES AND HIT THE BACK SIDE OF THE FRONT BUMPER AND THEN ARE DIRECTED BACK INTO THE FENDERS & RADIATOR SUPPORT ASSY WHICH IS AN OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL ON THE BOTTOM WITH NO DRAIN HOLES . SINCE THE WATER, SNOW, SLUSH, AND SALT LAY IN THIS OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL IT JUST ROTS THE CORNERS OUT . THIS IS PURELY A DESIGN PROBLEM 2 WAYS; 1. FENDER WELLS TOO SHORT IN THE FRONT 2. NO DRAIN HOLES IN THE OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL 3. THE ENTIRE ASSY OF POOR STEEL QUALITY AND NOT PRESERVED WITH RUST PROOFING SO NOW I HAVE A LOW MILEAGE 1999 F150 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THAT'S UN-USABLE !!! THE WINDSHIELD LEAKS ON THIS MODEL STYLE AND THE WATER RUNS DOWN TO THE GEM MODULE AND FUSE BOX CAUSING THE GEM MODULE TO SHORT OUT AND THE ELECTRONICS DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT TO. THE TRUCK WILL START ON ITS OWN EVEN IF OFF OR RUNNING AND DRIVING WITH THE STARTER ENGAGING. WINDOWS ROLL DOWN THE ALARM ACTIVATES RADIO COMES ON ALL THE ELECTRONICS COME ON AT THERE OWN EVEN WHEN PARKED WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FROM MY RESEARCH TO TENS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE TRUCKS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS DUE TO THE CAR CAN EVEN ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS IT CAN CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AS IT HAS WITH MYSELF. THIS PART IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND THE LEAK IS VERY COMMON. *TR

I BROUGHT IN MY 1999 FORD F150 TO GET AN INSPECTION AND GET A RECALL PERFORMED ON THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE GAS TANK ON. THE GARAGE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 6 DAYS BEFORE THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY IN FACT COULD NOT PERFORM THE SAFETY UPGRADE BECAUSE THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK HAS TOO MUCH RUST. I BELIEVE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS RESPONSABLE FOR NOT PROVIDING ADEQUETTE PROTECTION FRO THE ELEMENTS ON THE FRAMES OF THIS MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ONLY RESPONSABLE FOR THE GAS TANK STRAPS AND NOT THE FRAME SO THEY WERE NOT REQUIRING THEIR DEALERSHIP TO DO THE UPGRADES. WHEN MY BEST FRIENDS 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA HAD THE SAME EACT PROBLEM ON HIS TRUCK THE TOYOTA COMPANY PAID TO PUT A NEW FRAME ON HIS TRUCK DUE TO A RECALL OF THE FRAME. THE REST OF MY FORD TRUCK IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND HAS AROUND 120,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK EXCEPT FOR THE FRAME. BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE THE ONLY REAL CHOICE I HAVE AT THIS POINT IS TO SCRAP THE TRUCK AND BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TR

1-SEVERE CORROSION OF FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE REAR STRAP IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH, RESULTING IN THE TANK BEING HELD UP BY THE FRONT STRAP. THE SKID PLATE IS KEEPING THE TANK FROM FALLING DOWN. LUCKILY I NOTICED THIS WHILE CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE IN MY TIRES. I WILL BE GETTING NEW STRAPS THIS WEEK TO DO THE REPAIR MYSELF. I WILL KEEP THE OLD STRAPS. 2- BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ON MASTER CYLINDER LEAKS. THIS CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOPERATIVE. BRAKE FLUID LEAKS OUT ONTO THE WIRING. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL ON THE WIRING HARNESS. I BELIEVE THAT THE LEAKING BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ALSO CREATES A FIRE HAZARD AS IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SHORT IN THE WIRING. 1999 FORD F150 2WD TRUCK WITH 80,000 MILES THE FUEL TANK FELL OUT OF THE TRUCK. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS HAS CORRODED APART. WHEN RE-INSTALLING NEW STRAPS, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL FILL TUBE WAS CORRODED, AS WELL, WITH SEVERAL HOLES IN IT. ALSO, WHILE RE-ATTACHING FUEL TANK IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR THREE CROSS-MEMBERS WERE ON THERE WAY TO CORRODING INTO TWO PIECES, AND HAD ALREADY COMPLETELY BROKEN IN OTHER PLACES. UPON REMOVAL OF PICK-UP TRUCK BED FOR EXAMINATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE PINS HAD CORRODED AWAY, LEAVING NO SUPPORT. FURTHER, THE FRAME RAILS WERE CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY COULD BE BENT BY HAND- NO TOOLS USED! THIS SHOULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY RECALL BY FORD AS AN UNSUSPECTING USER HAULING A TRAILER MAY LOOSE THEIR TRAILER, DESPITE SAFETY CHAINS ATTACHED, CAUSING INJURY, OR DEATH, AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. AN UNSUSPECTING DRIVER WOULD ALSO BE SUBJECT TO THE FUEL TANK FALLING OFF THE TRUCK, WHILE DRIVING. IT COULD BURST INTO FLAMES, DUE TO HOT EXHAUST, OR ROAD SPARKS. THIS ALSO POSES THE SAFETY HAZARD OF FUEL SPILLAGE ON A ROADWAY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TRUCK MANUFACTURED BY FORD THAT HAS HAD PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE, BUT THIS IS THE WORST I HAVE SEEN, AND THERE ARE MORE THAN LIKELY MORE CASES KNOWN TO OTHER MECHANICS, AS WELL AS SOME THAT HAVE GONE UNDETECTED AS OF YET. *TR

THE STRAP ON OUR FORD F 150 THAT HOLDS UP OUR GAS TANK BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPON LOOKING AT THE FRAME IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS RUSTED OUT VERY BADLY AND COULD BE A DRIVING HAZARD TO DRIVE. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF COMPLETELY GETTING A NEW FRAME PUT UNDER THE TRUCK. I HAVE A 1999 FORD F-150 EXTENDED CAB THERE IS A CRACK IN THE METAL AREA NEXT TO THE WINDOW AREA ON BOTH BIG DOORS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT CERTAIN MODEL YEARS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THESE CRACKS ARE GETTING WORSE. SINCE I FOUND THIS I LOOK AT OTHER FORD TRUCKS AND ON CERTAIN YEARS I BELIEVE 1999-2003 OR 2004 ON THE EXT .CABS THAT THESE CRACKS APPEAR ON EITHER ONE SIDE AND CERTAIN YEARS ON BOTH SIDES. MY 1999 F150 HAS A CRACK FORMING ON THE BOTTOM REAR CORNER OF THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW OF THE DRIVERS DOOR AT 32000 I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM AND THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE OF YEAR . THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE FIXING THIS PROBLEM ON NEWER VEHICLES THEN MINE BUT FORD COMPLAINT SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND WOULD NOT FIX IT ALSO. I HAVE SEEN THIS ON OTHER TRUCKS SO I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE. ON A DIFFERENT DATE I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE GASKET SINKING IT CHANNEL BETWEEN THE WINDOW FRAME AND BODY OF TRUCK THEY WOULD NOT FIX THIS BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A FORD PART IT WAS MADE FOR FORD AND CAME ON THE TRUCK FROM THE FACTORY BUT DOSEN'T CARRY A WARRANTY. *JB

I HAD A SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF THE HEAD ON MY TRUCK. IT IS A 1999 FORD F-150, WITH A 5.4 LITER TRITON V-8 ENGINE. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS, UNTIL THE MECHANIC AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD SEEN IT BEFORE. ALSO AT AN EARLIER DATE THE SHEET METAL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ABOUT THREE INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW CRACKED. ITS HAS CRACKED TWO MORE TIMES SINCE THEN. THEY (FORD MOTOR CO.) FINALLY PUT A NEW DOOR SKIN ON, BUT A MAN WHO I KNOW THAT RUNS A BODY SHOP SAID IT'S IN THE DOOR ITSELF AND THAT A SKIN WOULDN'T PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS A CRACK IN NEAR THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW. THE CRACK APPEARS TO BE STRUCTURAL IN NATURE. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 1.5" IN LENGTH FROM THE INTERIOR EDGE OF THE SHEET METAL EXTENDING OUT TO BEYOND THE END OF THE WINDOW MOLDING. *AK

I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE SHEET METAL ON THE BODY OF MY TRUCK. THE CRACK IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR JUST ABOVE THE ADDITIONAL RUBBER MOLDING IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF THE WINDOW. THIS MAKES ME WONDER HOW THE DOOR WOULD HOLD UP IF I GOT HIT IN THE DOOR.

DOORS HAVE A ELECTRICAL SHOCK. WHEN EXITING TRHROUGH DOORS FROM VEHICLE CONSUMER WILL GET AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK THE ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAPPENS ONLY TO THE DRIVER NOT PASSENGERS. THE DRIVER THINKS A BUILD UP OF STATIC ELECTRICITY IS BEING TRANSFERRED BY STARTER, STEERING COLULMN, GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL. THE STARTER, THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM, CATALYTIC CONVERTOR AND EXHAUST SYSTEM HAD BEEN REPLACED TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. *YH
