The contact stated that while servicing the vehicle independently, the contact unplugged the cruise control deactivation sensor and became aware of condensation leaking from the sensor. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

The son had exited the vehicle and saw that a fireball had erupted from under the hood. The contact stated that she had reviewed the explosion on her home security camera. The contact stated that the fire department was called and extinguished the flames with water. A fire department report was not filed however it was commented that the origin was most likely an electrical fire. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an impound lot and was declared a total loss by her insurance company. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Safety Hotline. The contact was aware of an open recall for the vehicle, NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V017000 (Vehicle Speed Control), which had a risk of fire. The contact was not the original owner of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

THE CONTACT REPLACED THE CRUISE CONTROL START BUTTON HOWEVER WHEN PRESSED IT WOULD ACTIVATE THE HORN INSTEAD OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ODOMETER WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE TO DISPLAY THE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. FIRST I PURCHASED THE FORD F-150 2000 YEAR MODEL FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP ON OCT 28, 2019. IMMEDIATELY THERE WAS PROBLEMS KEEPING IT RUNNING. THEY PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT 2 DAYS LATER THEN WHILE REACHING 50 MPH MY TONS WOULD DROP AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE I HAD JUST PUT 51 DOLLARS IN THE TANK, THEN I PUSHED THE GAS TO THE FLOOR MY ROOMS WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO 3 THEN I WOULD HAVE TO LET OFF THE GAS AND IT SEEMED TO DO A HARD SWITCH IN GEAR. AS THIS CONTINUED THE ENTIRE TRUCK SHOOK TILL I FIGURED OK JUST PUMP THE GAS AND LET OFF BEFORE THE SHAKING GOT TO BAD. NOW THE SHAKING AS GOTTEN WORSE AND THE TRUCK SEEMS TO NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE AT ALL OR DOES A HARD STALL. IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A NEW LOW RANGE MOTOR WITH ONLY 100,000 MILES ON IT AT LEAST THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT, I ALSO VERBALLY MADE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE DEALER THAT IF ANYTHING WAS TO GO WRONG HE WOULD FIX IT, HE AGREED. NOW THAT I HAVE SEEN MY TRUCK HAS 18 RECALLS AND ONE THAT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED, A DUPLICATE TITLE AND HAD 2 LIENS I HONESTLY WANT MY MONEY BACK.IM A SINGLE MOTHER GOING TO COLLEGE AND I'M ALL MY DAUGHTER GOTS. I TOLD THE DEALER I NEEDED A RELIABLE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ALL TIMES AND IT DOES IT ON THE HWY AND CITY STREETS.

AROUND 4A.M I SMELLED FROM MY ROOM SOMETHING BURNING I WOKE UP LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW & SAW FIRE COMING OUT OF MY 2000 F-150 PICK UP TRUCK FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WENT OUTSIDE & TOOK THE MATTER IN MY OWN HANDS I QUICKLY GOT THE HOUSE WATER HOSE & TURNED OFF THE FLAMES. THANK GOD FIRE DID NOT REACH ANY FUEL LINES NOBODY WAS INJURED & FIRE DID NOT REACH THE HOUSE. I WAS THINKING OF HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN IF MY TRUCK WAS NOT MOVED FOR 2 DAYS & WAS JUST PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOME. I WENT AHEAD & DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE & FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE SAFETY RECALL 05S28-SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH FIRE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE SITUATION THEIR INFORMATION WAS FORWARDED TO THE OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNCIL. HAD DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES PARKED IN A LOWES PARKING LOT WENT INTO THE STORE FOR ABOUT 45MIN. ONLY TO COME OUT TO MY TRUCK ON FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY OFF AND NO ONE WAS IN IT, AND THERE ARE ONLY 2 SETS OF KEYS ONE IN MY POCKET AND THE OTHER AT HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED. PRIOR TO DRIVING THE 5 MILES IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN 2 DAYS. FORD SAYS IT'S NOT THERE PROBLEM AND INSURANCE ONLY WANTS TO GIVE US $3,700.00. MY HUSBAND IS A RETIRED VETERAN AND THIS WHOLE SITUATION HAS CAUSED HIS PTSD TO BE TRIGGERED.

2000 FORD F150 PICKUP WAS PARKED ON THE STREET AT MY MOTHER IN LAW'S HOUSE. IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS WHEN WE HEARD THE HORN GOING OFF. WE LOOKED OUTSIDE AND THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE GREW SO QUICKLY AND HAD BURNED OUT THE WHOLE CAB BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT IT OUT. IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS, AND HAS PUT OUR FAMILY IN A HORRIBLE SITUATION. THE FIRE STARTED ON THE DRIVER SIDE UNDER THE HOOD. IT LOOKED TO BE ABOVE THE WHEEL AND NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. WHILE THE FIRE WAS BURNING, IT CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD TO EXPLODE, SHOOTING GLASS ALL OVER THE STREET. THE FIRE ALSO DAMAGED ANOTHER VEHICLE PARKED NEARBY. THE TRUCK IS A CHARRED SKELETON AND THE TIRES WERE EVEN MELTED TO THE CONCRETE! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LEFT. I AM GRATEFUL WE WERE NOT IN THE TRUCK OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, BUT THIS IS SO UPSETTING. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE, WHICH IS WHY WE WERE DRIVING A 13 YEAR OLD TRUCK TO BEGIN WITH. ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 4, 2011 MY TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT AT MY WIFE'S PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. THE TRUCK WAS NOT RUNNING AND HAD NO MAJOR MECHANICAL ISSUES. THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND DAMAGED THE A MAJORITY OF THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, IT IS TOTALED. I BELIEVE MY FORD TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRING SYSTEM AND A LEAK IN THE BRAKE FLUID SYSTEM. SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, BUT NO FLAMES WERE SEEN. THE FIRE DEPT. WAS CALLED, AND ONE OF THE FIREMEN TOLD ME THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON THE FRONT OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. HE TOLD ME HE WAS AWARE OF A FORD RECALL ON THAT PART. I WAS NEVER MAILED ANY RECALL NOTICES!! THE FIRE MELTED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH/WIRING, MELTED THE PLASTIC BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, AND ALSO DAMAGED THE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THIS IS MY FAMILY'S ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, SO I ASKED FOR A LOANER OR RENTAL CAR WHILE MY TRUCK WAS BEING REPAIRED. THEY ARE REFUSING TO PAY FOR THE COST OF A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE AND ALSO, THEY ARE REFUSING TO REPAIR ANY ?RELATED DAMAGES? (BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR) AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE CAUSED BY THEIR DEFECTIVE PART. THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY MAKE REPAIRS ON THE RECALL PART BUT NOT REPAIRS TO RELATED DAMAGES? THE RECALL IS A PAINFULLY OBVIOUS ADMISSION OF NEGLIGENCE THEY NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGES CAUSED TO MY TRUCK, AS WELL AS THE INCONVENIENCE AND HARDSHIP OF NOT HAVING A MODE OF TRANSPORTATION FOR MY FAMILY. THE MECHANIC ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL . THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN I CALLED FORD TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD SENT TWO RECALL NOTICES AND THAT IT WAS BASICALLY MY FAULT MY TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE. BOUGHT NEW SWITCH FROM FORD DEALERSHIP AND SCREWED IN FLUID BLOCK AND REPAIRED WIRING WITH NEW TERMINAL CONNECTORS THAT CAME WITH SWITCH. I STILL HAVE OLD MELTED SWITCH AND DAMAGED BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. *JB
