The police and fire departments arrived on the scene, and the firefighters extinguished the fire. The fire consumed and destroyed the entire vehicle. The origin of the fire was in the engine compartment of the driver's side. Police and fire department reports were filed. The vehicle was not towed and remained at the residence. The insurance company was notified of the failure; however, pending an inspection. The contact's husband was then contacted by his co-workers via walkie-talkie to inform him the vehicle was on fire. When the contact arrived at the scene of the fire, nine other co-workers and himself attempted to extinguish the fire with water and extinguishers however wires were burnt on the front part of the vehicle and they were unsuccessful. The Fire Department was on scene and extinguished the fire. The origin of the fire was unknown, but the fire department did state it had to do with something electric. The fire took place at [XXX] . THE TRUCK WAS PARKED AFTER BEING DRIVEN 2 MILES. IT HAD STARTED TO SMOKE AND NEXT THING I KNOW IT WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, WHILE MY 15 Y/O SON PUT OUT FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. IT WAS SAID TO BE A ELECTRICAL FIRE. A FRIEND THAT DRIVES TOW TRUCKS CAME BY TO LOOK AT IT AND SAID IT HAD A RECALL ON IT WHERE IT BURNED. IT BURNED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID IT WAS THE WIRING UNDER THAT, THAT CAUSED THE FIRE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. SO I CONTACTED THE FORD COMPANY AND MADE A CLAIM WITH THEM ON THE FOLLOWING THURSDAY AFTER FIRE.I WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE A RESPONSE FROM THEM IN 15 BUSINESS DAYS, HERE IT IS 6 1/2 WEEKS LATER AND NOTHING. NOT A LETTER, NOT A PHONE CALL, NOTHING. I CALL AND GET TLD THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANYTHING DONE. I JUST WANT MY TRUCK FIXED. I WANT TO KNOW IF THE FORD COMPANY WILL REPAIR IT OR IF I NEED TO FIX IT MYSELF. MY HUSBAND IS ON DIALYSIS AND HAS MULTIPLE HEALTH ISSUES AND THIS WAS OUR ONLY RUNNING VEHICLE UNTIL THIS HAPPENED. ON 7/13/09(MONDAY)I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE.I ALSO PLACED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE CO..ALONG WITH CALLING THE NEARS FORD DEALER(ABOUT 50 MILES AWAY) AND GOT A "WILL CALL YOU BACK" ANSWER, ALSO THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO HAVE DISCONNECTED THE SWITCH THREE YEARS PRIOR WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE IN TO THEM FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ( I WAS SENT A NOTICE OF RECALL FROM FORD MOTOR CORP. BUT WE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM THAT IS WHEN WE SENT THEM A LETTER NOTIFYING THEM HOW DISAPPOINTED WE WHERE. THE NEXT DAY CARMEN CONTACTED MY DAUGHTER ELISA RODRIGUEZ AND TOLD HER THAT THEY STILL HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO ANYTHING FOR US BUT THAT SHE WOULD LET US KNOW. AS THE DAYS PASSED WE WOULD NOT RECEIVE ANYTHING FROM FORD SO WE WOULD CALL THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN BUT NOW THEY NOT ONLY DIDN'T GIVE US INFORMATION BUT THEY WOULD NOT RETURN OUR CALLS WE LEFT VARIOUS MESSAGES. I SPOKE WITH THE REPAIR SHOP OWNER ON SAT JULY 1 AND TOLD HIM IT WAS A SECONDARY VEHICLE AND AS THIS WAS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND NOT TO RUSH. JUST WHEN THEY OPENED BACK UP AFTER THE HOLIDAY IF HE COULD GET IT FIXED THEN. ON THE MORNING OF JULY 4TH 2006 WE WERE CALLED AROUND 10:30 AM BY THE REPAIR SHOP OWNER, WHO WAS ALSO A TENANT IN THIS BUILDING, THAT OUR TRUCK HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE DURING THE NIGHT AND WAS A TOTAL LOSS. HE ASKED THAT WE COME RIGHT OVER. WE CALLED OUR INSURANCE ON THE WAY AS WE LUCKILY STILL HAD FULL COVERAGE EVEN THOUGH OUR TRUCK WAS PAID FOR. THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP HAD ALL THE BAY DOORS CUT OPEN BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DURING THE NIGHT(JULY 3RD) AND THERE WERE SEVERAL OTHER CARS IN THE BUILDING THAT WERE DAMAGED ALSO. AT LEAST ONE OF WHICH WAS A TOTAL LOSS ALSO. THE BUILDING HAD WATER AND SMOKE DAMAGE EVEN IN ITS RESTROOM. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPEN ALL WEEK AND WHO KNOWS HOW LARGE HIS DEDUCTIBLE, ETC IS. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT MY FORD 2003 EXCURSION HAS A FIRE RECALL ON IT. WHEREAS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR FIRES RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL I WAITED UNTIL THOSE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE BEFORE MENTIONING THIS TO MY FORD DEALER. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT THE RECALL WOULD NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. THAT IS, THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WAS UNRELATED TO THE RECALL. ON 2/16/06 I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION COMPLAINT. UPON LEANING DOWN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TO INSPECT FOR THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK SMALL FLAMES WERE NOTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON OPENING THE HOOD FOR FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE (APPEARING TO ME AND OTHER OBSERVERS TO BE ELECTRICAL IN NATURE) WITH THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR COMPLETED MELTED. THE FLAMES FIRST OBSERVED WERE FORCED BY THE MOLTEN PLASTIC DRIPPING DOWN INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED BUT THANKS TO SOME EMPLOYEES OF THE SHOP AND THE AVAILABILITY THERE OF AN APPROVED EXTINGUISHER, THE FIRE WAS TERMINATED BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SOME 7 MINUTES LATER. COMMENTS WERE MADE BY OTHERS AND LATER BY INTERNET RESEARCH THAT THE DAMAGE HAS ALL OF THE APPEARANCES OF BEING FORCED BY THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH ISSUE. ON THE EVENING OF OCT. 4, 2005 AT 5:50 PM, I ARRIVED HOME FROM WORK AND PARKED MY 2001 FORD F150 SUPERCREW IN MY GARAGE. I HAD A NORMAL EVENING AND RETIRED TO BED AT 10:00 PM AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30PM THE SMOKE DETECTOR IN MY HOME AWAKENED ME. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT SPEEDS OF 90 MPH AND ABOVE, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WHILE THIS WAS OCCURRING ONE COULD SMELL A BURNING ODOR, AND SEE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER THIS OCCURRED THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND MADE SURE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND WHEN HE RETURNED HE FOUND THAT THE DEALERSHIP BLEW UP THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL ACTIVATED WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BLOWOUT. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BECAUSE LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THE MANUFACTURER HUNG UP ON HIM. *AK

THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THOTTLE BODY. ALTHOUGH, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE "FORD DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT" ACCORDING TO TOM GLANSMAN AT SAXON FORD. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, THE BRAKE FAIL TO STOP THE TRUCK WHEN IT HAS THIS PROBLEM. ONLY TURNING OFF THE ENGINE CAN STOP THE TRUCK, WHICH COMPROMISES THE BRAKE AND STEERING SYSTEMS.
