Frame Failure, A licensed technician said my vehicle is dangerous to drive and cannot be fixed because of the advanced rusting of the frame. As I read the history of some Ford Trucks I find this is a continuing problem with no recalls and wonder why they can continue to manufacture faulty, dangerous products

There hasn't been any accidents but the rails underneath of the truck bed are rotting completely off the truck and I feel that would be a safety problem if it collapses and I don't understand why they're so rusty when the rest of the truck is not it this could be a problem!

MY 2004 FORD F-150 HAS 61,000 MILES AND NO RUST ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I'VE KEPT THE TRUCK WELL MAINTAINED AND IT LOOKS ALMOST NEW. THE FRAME HOWEVER RIGHT WHERE THE REAR LEAF SPRING ATTACHES TO THE FRAME IS RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH. IT IS INCREDIBLE THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED AS OF YET. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE RECALLED. WHILE DRIVING A PART OF THE EXHAUST HEAT SHIELD FELL ONTO THE DRIVESHAFT. WHEN I WENT TO INSPECT THE UNDERSIDE I FOUND A HOLE IN THE FRAME AND I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY FINGER RIGHT THROUGH IT. *DT CONSUMER STATED ONE IMPORTANT FACT THAT I FORGOT TO ADD TO MY COMPLAINT IS THE SECTION OF THE FRAME THAT RUSTED THROUGH HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE SAME SPOT ON BOTH THE PASSENGER FRAME RAIL AS WELL AS THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRAME RAIL. THE 2004 FORD ESCAPE WAS RECALLED FOR SIMILAR ISSUES THAT YEAR BUT IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE A LOT OF US OUT THERE WHO HAVE INHERITATED THIS FROM FORD WHO IS IN CONSTANT DENIAL OF IT'S REFUSAL TO ADDRESS AND TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION TO REPAIR THE BUCKLEING OF THE FRONT END. I CONTACTED A PROFESSIONAL WHO CAME TO MY HOUSE AND LOOKED AT IT WITH THE BED OFF. UPON HIS INSPECTION HE FOUND IT WAS UNREPAIRABLE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ORIGINAL METAL LEFT TO WELD TO. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE IS NO WARRANTY, NO RECALL, SORRY FOR YOUR LUCK AND GOT HUNG UP ON. WHILE RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT FORD HAS A RECALL ON 2004 ESCAPES FOR THIS VERY SAME REASON "THE FRAMES ARE RUSTING OUT" IT WOULD MAKE SENSE TO ME THAT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN A BAD BATCH OF METAL USED IN THE BUILDING OF THESE FRAMES. I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR STATE INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE COATING APPLIED TO THE SPRINGS ACTUALLY CAUSED RUST AND MADE THEM FAIL. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A MANUFACTURING AND SAFETY DEFECT BUT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER AND FORD THAT THEY WOULD NOT CONSIDER ANY HELP TOWARD THE $400 BILL TO REPLACE THEM. I DON'T FEEL THAT A CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A STRUCTURAL DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR

AND THIS IS WHY IT SHOOK OR VIBRATED AT 55/70 MPH IT WENT AWAY FOR AWHILE. THEN I KEPT ROUTINE OIL AND TIRE ROTATIONS AND BALANCING ON IT BUT THE VIBRATION KEPT COMING BACK. THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACE ON THE TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES COST ME A FORTUNE WHICH ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST UNTIL 150,000. THE SHOCKS, STRUTS, BRAKES, AND ROTORS AND BEARINGS WERE ALL REPLACES TWICE NOW FIRST FOR VIBRATION IN 2007/2008 SPENT THOUSANDS DIDN'T WORK REPLACED TIRES AND RIMS WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT SIX MONTH THEN CAME BACK AGAIN EVERY TIME WE ROTATE THE TIRES THE VIBRATION GOES AWAY FOR LIKE A DAY OR TWO THEN COMES BACK IN 2010 I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE AND EMERGENCY BRAKE AND BEARINGS AND SEALS FOR A SECOND TIME BECAUSE THEY LOCKED UP IN 2011 I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES, SHOCKS, ROTORS AND STRUTS, BECAUSE OF VIBRATION GUESS WHAT DIDN'T WORK NOW WERE LOOKING AT TIRES AND RIMS AGAIN AND FORD TELLS ME THAT MY REAR SEALS AND BEARINGS NEED REPLACED FOR LEAKAGE AND THE POSSIBLE SHAKING IS MY DRIVE SHAFT I BOUGHT A 30,000 TRUCK THAT I HAVE PUT 10,000 GRAND IN JUST ESTIMATING OH AND THEY JUST FIXED THE RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG HARNESS AND TELL ME THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS FLASHING BUT IT ISN'T COVERED IN THE RECALL AND IT WASN'T FLASHING WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. I HAVE TWO FORDS I HAVE A FORD ESCAPE I BOUGHT AT THE SAME DEALER IN 2005 THAT THEY KEPT A REVOLVING DOOR FOR IN SERVICE BECAUSE OF ALL ITS PROBLEMS AND EVERYONE TELLS ME IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD AGAIN NOW I KNOW WHY PEOPLE JOKE ABOUT THE FIX OR REPAIR DAILY. *TR

AFTER READING THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON HERE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON DEFECT IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND YEAR. I AM DOING SEPARATE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SPARK PLUGS AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD ISSUES. *TR

AFTER CHECKING ON LINE AND MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, IT SEEMS THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON ON 2004 FORD F150 VEHICLES, AND IT INDICATES THAT FORD IS NOT PREPARED TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS, EVEN THOUGH THEY REALIZE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PHOTOGRAPH AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. THE FORD DEALERSHIP ADVISES THEY NEED TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT ROAD SPRINGS AT A COST OF $575.00, BUT THE SHOCK ABSORBERS MIGHT NEED REPLACING ALSO WHICH WOULD BE ADDITIONAL MONIES. NOBODY CAN GET AN ANSWER FROM FORD SERVICE AS TO WHAT IS WRONG. MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED MANY DIFFERENT THINGS (I.E. TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH PADS, BEARINGS, U-JOINTS, EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE OR PADS), ALL TO NO AVAIL. THEY HAVE WASTED THEIR TIME AND MONEY, AND FORD REFUSES TO LIVE UP TO THIS AWFUL AND VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, FORD KNOWS THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH 2004 F-150 TRUCKS, ESPECIALLY, BUT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT. WHEN ASKED IF I COULD OPERATE THE TRUCK WITH THE PART MISSING, THEY CALL IT A KEY, THE ANSWER WAS A DEFINITIVE AND UNANIMOUS NO. WOULD THE TIRE WEAR FUNNY? THEY SAY YES, AND AGREE IT IS NOT. THERE IS NOTHING, WHEN YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THIS TRUCK, THAT WOULD INDICATE ANY FORM OF HARD LIVING. THE SPARE TIRE IS UNUSED. AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK OUR TRUCK WILL GO IN TO A VIOLENT SHAKING EPISODE. THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME IT RIDES BEAUTIFULLY. FORD F150 TRUCK - THE TRUCK INTERMITTENLY EXHIBITS SEVERE VIBRATION THAT CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS IN THE CAB. THE WHOLE TRUCK SHACKES WHEN THIS OCCURS. THE VIBRATION OCCURS PRIMARILY AT SPEEDS OF 40-60 MPH; BUT, HAS OCCURRED AT SPEEDS IN THE 75 MPH RANGE TOO. THERE IS A LOW LEVEL VIBRATION THAT IS PRESENT MOST OF THE TIME WHILE DRIVING. THIS LOW LEVEL VIBRATION TURNS INTO THE SEVERE VIBRATION PERIODICALLY. THE PROBLEM OCCURS ON SMOOTH PAVEMENT. IT IS VERY SCAREY WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. THE DRIVE SHAFT AND ENGINE MOUNTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE DEALER TRIED 4 NEW TIRES ON THE TRUCK TOO. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.....ALAS IT IS INTERMITTENT AND THE DEALER HAS NOT SEEN IT. LEFT FRONT END , WHEN I BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AFTER LETTING THE TRUCK SIT FOR OVER A MINUTE, AS I START TO DRIVE I CAN FEEL AND HEAR A ROUGH NOISE, I CAN FEEL IT ON THE DRIVERS FLOORBOARD, IT VIBRATES FOR A SECOND OR TWO AND ITS ALSO AUDIBLE, I TOOK IT INTO MY DEALER HAD HE SAID HE HEARD NOTHING BUT I HAVE LET FRIENDS DRIVE AND THEY SAY THEY HEAR AND FEEL IT TOO, THE SOUND IS LIKE SOMETHING MAY BE RUBBING OR SETTING BACK INTO PLACE. MY TRUCK IS A 2004 F150 AND STARTED DOING THAT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. *AK

WHILE DRIVING 30-55 MPH THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE/SHIMMY HEAVILY. SOMETIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OF THE VIBRATION WOULD SUBSIDE, OTHER TIMES IT WOULD NOT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED BUT THE CAUSE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. *LA *NM

VEHICLE BOUNCED AND WAS UNSTABLE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE MECHANIC INSTALLED A DAMPENING ON THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNSTABLE. ANY OBJECTS LOADED IN THE VEHICLE BED MAY FALL OUT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE BOUNCED . *AK THIS PROBLEM CAUSED SICKNESS IF THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A LONG PERIOD. *SC *JB

I HAVE A 2004 FORD F-150 FX4 SUPERCAB. I AM EXPERIENCING TWO PRIMARY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. FIRST, THE VIBRATION AND STEERING WHEEL "NIBBLE". THE VIBRATION IS PRESENT AT NEARLY ALL SPEEDS. IT FEELS LIKE THE VEHICLE IS ROLLONG OVER SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. DEALER HAS HAD VEHICLE TWICE AND WILL HAVE IT AGAIN (3RD TIME) TOMORROW. CLAIM TO BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE STEERING WHEEL "NIBBLE" HAPPENS AROUND 75-80MPH AND DID IMPROVE SLIGHTLY WITH REBALANCING THE TIRES. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS WITH THE A/C SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM IS NOT COOLING THE CAB OF THE TRUCK WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP IS 85 OR HIGHER. THE CONDICTION IS PARTICULARLY BAD WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT IDLE. THE DEALER SAYS THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING AT SPEC. I TALKED TO A FRIEND WHO HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND HE SAYS HE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND HE IS BRINGING HIS TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE A/C IN MY FRIEND'S 1997 RANGER COOLS BETTER THAN MY NEW F-150. *AK

TEST DROVE NEW F-150 SUPER-CREW-CAB 4X2, AT 60 MPH EXPERIENCED A TERRILBE SHIMMY IN STEERING WHEEL AND BAD VIBRATION FROM LEFT REAR OF TRUCK. RETURNED TRUCK TO LOT AND TEST DROVE NEW F-150 SUPER-CREW-CAB 4X4, EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AT 30 MPH AND 60 MPH. BOUGHT 4X4, SALESMAN SAID THE TRUCK MOST LIKELY NEEDED WHEEL BALLANCING, OR IT WAS OUT OF ROUND. WE MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TWO DAYS LATER TO ADDRESS THE SHIMMY/VIBRATION PROBLEM.THE MECHANIC HAD THE TRUCK ON LIFT FOR TWENTY MINUTES. RESULT, DEALER HAS TO ORDER A PART FOR A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT REQUIRES A VIBRATION DAMPENING DEVICE TO BE INSTALLED. THIS IS INTERESTING, THER IS A WHOLE LOT OF NEW F-150 TRUCKS AT THIS DEALERSHIP. I DROVE TWO AND BOTH HAD SAME PROBLEM. THEY (FORD), HAVE A KNOWN SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM AND YET AS PLENTIFUL AS THIS PROBLEM IS ON THE LOT THEY HAVE TO ORDER THE PART, AGAIN FOR A KNOW PROBLEM DOCUMENTD BY THEIR BULLETIN THAT THIS PART IS REQUIRED AND THEY DON'T HAVE IT IN STOCK TO FIX MY TRUCK OR THE OTHER ONE I TEST DROVE ON THEIR LOT OR THE NEXT ONE AND SO-ON AND SO-ON.....AFTER READING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS THERE HAD BETTER BE A FIX FOR THIS OR I WILL SURELY DELIVER MY $40,000 WORTH OF INQUIRIES AND ADVERTISEMENTS. I HAVE A SUPER CREW 4X4 W/ 3.73 LTD SLIP REAR. IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS MANY OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION "NIBBLE" AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE REAR END SHUDDERS FROM A STANDSTILL UPON ACCELERATION OR WHILE MAKING TURNS. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN THIS WEEK AND THE SERVICE WRITER HAD THE SERVICE MANAGER TAKE A TEST DRIVE WITH ME SO I COULD SHOW HIM WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE FELT THE EXACT SAME THINGS I DID, ACKNOWLEDGED THE VIBRATION AND THE SLIPPING "SHUDDERING" REAR END FEELING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN TRYING DIFFERENT SETS OF WHEELS AND TIRES ON MY TRUCK BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. AS FOR THE REAR END PROBLEMS, THEY HAVE YET TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM; NO ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO TRY TO FIX IT. I AM NOT ALONE WITH THESE PROBLEMS. *AK
