The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, while the brake pedal was depressed, the brakes failed to engage; the contact pulled the vehicle into a Home Depot parking lot, exited the vehicle, and discovered that the engine compartment was on fire. The Home Depot employees came out to the vehicle and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. The Fire Department and Police Department were contacted; however, the contact was unsure if a report was filed for either department. The orgin of the fire was not confirmed however, the fire department informed that timing was critical because any longer the fire would have caused an explosion. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the residence, and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 360,000.

Additionally, the contact stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Pulled out of driveway and made it 50 feet and whole truck shut down right on the road. Could not make the vehical restart no click or anything dead right where it stopped. Could of caused an accident. Had to have truck taken to a shop they took a week to find out that the electrical fuel system harness had a dead short in it. So no fuel going to the feul injectors or to the key to start the vehical. Still have head lights and breaks and radio. Just no way to restart the vehical. They checked thw wires and after unplugging many wires to the fuel system and retesting it started. Left with the truck a day later the same thing happen but this time i had to jump a curb to avoid an accident and coasted into a parking lot. I got out and wiggled a few of the wires and the truck started back up. I made it back to where i was staying only 2 blocks up the road and it died in the parking lot in a stall. That has been over 3 weeks and cant find the parts to fix it even by talking to ford shops. There not able to get this harness due to they have been discontinued...truck has low miles on it and now i dont know what to DO. This is my daily driver for WORK. This shouldnt of happened with the wires being wrapped even the mechanic who has his own shop but also works for Ford as a mechanic he has seen this before and now having problems getting parts. I hope you can help with this matter. Due to its very disturbing to myself when its in good shape and was taken care of and NOW cant get parts..
I BOUGHT USED CASH TRUCK, DROVE FINE FOR FIRST DAY, SECOND DAY WHILE TRUCK WAS IN MOTION AND PUT IN REVERSE IT DIES, TOOK A COUPLE TURNS TO STARTED UP AND IT STARTED CODING THE CAMSAFT SENSORS, GOT CODES CLEARED, AND IT DROVE OK FOR 30 MINUTES COATED AGAIN STARTED TO STALL AND STUTTER A BIT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR GARAGE TO HAVE STARTER REPLACED.ACCORDING TO REPAIR TECH.WHILE LIFTING TRUCK A LOT OF CRACKING SOUND S INSPECTION OF FRAME REVILED EXCESSIVE RUSTING AND CRACKS .THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME TRUCK WAS UN SAFE TO USE.HAVE BILLS WITH STATEMENTS MADE BY REPAIR SHOP.

MY TRUCK IS RATTLING BAD AND ITS THE TIMING CHAIN FORD SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS BECAUSE IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THE OIL SEALS ON THE TENSIONERS START LEAKING CAUSING THEM TO NOT KEEP THE CHAIN TIGHT LIKE IT SHOULD BE AND ALSO FAILS TO PUSH OIL AROUND TO THE RIGHT SIDE CAM WHICH CAUSES IT TO FAIL. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED IT IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE INJURIES IF THE TRUCK STALLS OUT. ALSO THE SPARK PLUGS BLOW OUT OF THE HEADS CAUSING VERY HIGH REPAIR BILLS. THIS ALSO COULD CAUSE A ACCIDENT RESULTING IN DEATH. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT YET HAS DONE NOTHING TO MAKE IT RIGHT. FORD SHOULD STAND BEHIND THERE MISTAKE AND MAKE IT RIGHT FIX OR REPLACE THE ENGINE NO MATTER WHAT THE MILEAGE IS BECAUSE THEY KNEW ABOUT IT. MY TRUCK REPAIRS WILL COST OVER $7000 DOLLARS TO FIX BECAUSE FORD WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM THEY KNEW ABOUT. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ON INTERSTATE 40, VEHICLE WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE (HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES). SUBSEQUENTLY, ENGINE BEGAN WITH A TICKING NOISE WITH EVER INCREASING RATTLING/SHAKING TO A POINT THAT THE ENGINE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF. THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE STOPPING OR IDLING IN CITY TRAFFIC. LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED ALL COILS & PLUGS, THROTTLE BODY, FUEL FILTER, ETC. VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR SIX MONTHS, HOWEVER THE RATTLING, KNOCKING, SHAKING, SURGING, STALLING HAVE RETURNED TWO FOLD. VEHICLE IS NOW EXPERIENCING A MASSIVE OIL LEAK FROM THE ENGINE. HAD IT CHECKED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIRS (BUT DID COMPLETE AN OIL CHANGE). FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE ISSUES. 1. BRAKE DOT 3 IS RUNNING OUT AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS. WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE KEEPS GOING. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING, I MUST PUSH DOWN THE BRAKE VERY HARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REFILL THE OIL TANK. 2. WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE SPEED REACHES AT AROUND 45-65 MPH, THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY LOSES POWER AND HIT AT 3-5 MPH BEFORE STOPPING. AFTER I COMPLETELY TURN OFF AND RESET THE BATTERY, THE VEHICLE STARTS NORMAL AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAPPENED FROM 2009 TO CURRENT TIME, BUT THE ODB SCAN DOES NOT DETECT ANY CODE OR ERRORS.

FORD HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THEIR 2005 5.4L ENGINES IN THE F-150 TRUCKS. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 07M08. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED FUEL INJECTOR FAILURES BUT FAILED TO COVER THE RESULT OF THOSE FAILURES. I LOST SEVERAL INJECTORS WHICH RESULTED IN "DAMAGE TO OTHER POWERTRAIN COMPONENTS." THOSE COMPONENT WERE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. BOTH OF MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING AND FUEL CONSUMPTION INCREASED AS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS CONTINUED TO FAIL. EMISSION TESTING WAS NEVER PERFORMED OF THIS VEHICLE. I CAN BE ASSUMED THAT EMISSION TESTING WOULD HAVE FAILED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE 07M08 COVERAGE.

THE EVENTS LEADING TO MY BREAKDOWN ON A BUSY ACCELERATION RAMP ARE AS FOLLOWS: MY VEHICLE LOST ALMOST ALL POWER ON AN ACCELERATION RAMP, SLOWING ME DOWN TO A CRAWL. FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR RECEIPT IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST, BUT THE MAIN ISSUES WERE THE CAM PHASER, AND TIMING CHAIN. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE UPON MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND I AM FORMALLY REQUESTING THE NHSTA TO INVESTIGATE AND HOLD THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY (HEREAFTER REFERRED TO AS "FORD") RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POOR DESIGN CHOICE. AS I LATER WENT ONLINE I FOUND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING WITH FORD 5.4 ENGINES. IT SEEMS TO ME FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT ARE NOT WILLING TO STAND BY THEIR PROBLEM. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTANANCE SINCE HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER OF THE TRUCK. I LOVE THE TRUCK BUT I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR HAVING ENGINEERED A BAD ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL ON THE INJECTORS. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THERE IS A BALL VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT KEEPS THE TRUCK FROM BUILDING ENOUGH PRESSURE TO BE ABLE TO SHIFT WHICH THROWS A CODE AND SAYS MISFIRE ON 6 BEEN REPLACED TWICE NOW SO CLEARLY NOT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE.. TRUCK FEELS AS IF FIXING TO FIE THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON START FLASHING BUT THROW NO CODES AND YOU CANT SPEED BACK UP BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE YOUR TRUCK IS ABOUT TO DIE AND YOU DON'T WANT TO BLOW YOUR MOTOR.

BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED AT 150000 MILES. AFTER 5000 MILES THE LOUD TICKING THAT THESE TRUCKS ARE KNOWN FOR BECAME LOUDER. AT 161000 MILES THE ENGINE DIED. I STARTED IT UP IN MY DRIVEWAY ONE MORNING AND INSTEAD OF JUST TICKING, IT WAS KNOCKING 100X LOUDER. THE TRUCK BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THEN IT JUST DIED. ALL THIS HAPPENED IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP, AND THEY SAID I NEED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK IF I WAS DRIVING AND THIS HAPPENED, WHAT THE OUTCOME WOULD BE. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE ONLINE SAYING SIMILAR THINGS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL WAS ISSUED. THAT IS IRRESPONSIBLE, AND VERY DANGEROUS ON FORD'S PART.

5.4 3V TRITON. WHEN THE TRUCK IS AT IDLE AT A NORMAL OPERATING TEMP, IT HAS A HORRIBLE KNOCKING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. FROM WHAT I AM READING THIS ENGINE HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE CAM PHASERS AND TIMING COMPONENTS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING CHAIN IS ABOUT TO FLY OUT OF THE ENGINE. I HOPE MY TRUCK DOESN'T GIVE OUT ON ME BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION TO WORK AND CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED. I BOUGHT A FORD FOR RELIABILITY, BUT UNTIL THIS IS FIXED I FEEL IT'S UNRELIABLE. I HAVE USED A FULL SYN OIL AND THE RIGHT MOTORCRAFT 820S FILTER. TRUCK BEGAN TICKING VERY LOUDLY, THEN BEGAN A KNOCKING NOISE, AND NOW THE ENGINE SHAKES THE TRUCK WHEN IDLING. CAM PHASERS BROKE APART CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TIMING CHAIN. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE AS WELL AS INABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED WHILE ASCENDING AN INCLINE IS FREQUENT. THE LOSS OF SPEED AND POWER HAS CAUSED US SEVERAL CLOSE-CALL ACCIDENTS. TRUCK WILL SIMPLY NOT ACCELERATE WHILE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. ADDITIONALLY, IT ALSO FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK CANNOT CATCH GEARS WHILE IN MOTION.

AFTER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, THE SHAKING GOT WORSE. MY FIRST THOUGHT, "I HAVE A MISFIRE ON ONE OF MY CYLINDERS". ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK MY TRUCK THROUGH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I THEN PROCEEDED TO TAKE IT TO MY DEALER BECAUSE AT THIS POINT IT WOULD BARELY GO OVER 40 MPH. THEY CHECKED THE CODE AND TURNS OUT THAT THE TRUCK HAS A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS; THAT WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON THIS WEBSITE ARE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND ENGINE TYPE (5.4L V8 TRITTON). I NEED NEW VCT SOLENOIDS, NEW CAMPHASERS, TIMING ADJUSTMENTS, AND NEW CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THE COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS TO THIS ENGINE, HAPPENED YET AGAIN. BAD CAM PHASERS. HAPPENED AROUND 138,4XX MILES. NOT SURE IF ANY PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACED THIS PART BEFORE OR NOT. BUT, IT SEEMS EVEN IF REPLACED, THE PROBLEM WILL STILL PERSIST IN THE FUTURE. WELL AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE HOME FOR LESS THAN A MONTH I'VE NOTICED A TICKING IN THE ENGINE. A TICKING THAT I KNEW LITTLE ABOUT UNTIL FURTHER RESEARCH INTO THESE VEHICLES. SEEMS THAT ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE IN THE WORLD I'VE PURCHASED A FORD LEMON. THE ENGINES RARELY MAKE IT PAST 75,000-100,000. FORD AS A WHOLE ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND DELIBERATELY FIND WAYS AROUND HAVING TO TAKE THE LIABILITY ON. THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THE TICKING IS 1,500 IN REPAIRS OF THE CAM PHASER, WHICH IN A TIMELY MANNER MELTS LIKE BUTTER OR REPLACE IT WITH A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE ONLY TO ENCOUNTER THE SAME ISSUE. WHETHER OR NOT THIS VEHICLE IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. AN ENGINE SHOULD BE ABLE TO LAST MORE THAN 100,000 MILES. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN 500 MILES AND THE PROBLEM IS EVIDENT.
MY TRUCK HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 5.4L'S CAM PHASERS. THE TRUCK MAKES A VERY LOUD NOISE AND SHAKES. TO REPAIR THIS, IT'S AROUND $3,000 AND ALSO I HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ALL 8 COILS WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,200 AND A KNOWN MISFIRE. THEN DUE TO A SQUEAL UNDER THE HOOD WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD, HE REMOVED THE INTAKE AND FOUND THE SEAL HAD FAILED, WHILE IT WAS APART HE NOTED 2 LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS. ALL DEFECTIVE PARTS WERE REPLACED. IN AUGUST THAT SAME YEAR I REPLACED THE OTHER 7 SPARKPLUGS, HAVING 4 MORE BRAKE OFF. THE EXTRACTOR TOOL WORKED GREAT.

DROVE IT HOME - 35 MILES - GOT HOME AND ENGINE STALLED IN DRIVEWAY. TURNED BACK ON, ENGINE DIED AGAIN. LONG STORY SHORT - TOWED IT BACK TO FORD - THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM - OIL PRESSURE DROPS SUDDENLY (INTERMITTENTLY)- POINTING TO CAM PHASER, TIMING AREA OF ENGINE - END RESULT - NEED NEW ENGINE - THIS ONE IS SHOT AT ONLY 68K MILES - ESTIMATED COST $7,400 PLUS TAX. EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THESE 5.4L ENGINES ARE BREAKING DOWN LEFT AND RIGHT IN THESE TRUCKS. DON'T KNOW WHAT CHANGED. THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND TIME A SPARK PLUG HAS POPPED OUT OF THE ENGINE ON MY 2005 FORD F-150 WITH THE 4.6 LITER V8 ENGINE IT. THE FIRST SPARK PLUG POPPED OUT IN AUGUST 2011 AND NOW IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER 2013. I HAVE HEARD THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THIS IS HAPPENED TO. FORDPROBLEMS.COM SUGGESTS THAT FORD INSISTS THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO IMPROPER TORQUING OF NEW PLUGS OR ANY NUMBER OF OTHER REASONS. HOWEVER MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SPARK PLUGS EJECT FROM THE ENGINE, WHICH INDICATES THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE ENGINE & CYLINDER HEAD DESIGN. THE REPAIR IS RELATIVELY EASY - DO NOT BE FOOLED BY A DEALER OFFERING TO REPAIR THE ISSUE FOR $700 OR MORE. AN INEXPENSIVE HELICOIL KIT WILL DO THE TRICK. ALSO, WE DO NOT RECOMMEND SIMPLY RE-TAPPING THE SPARK PLUG THREADS BECAUSE THE THREADS ARE PROBABLY TOO DAMAGED ALREADY & THE SPARK PLUG MAY JUST BLOW OUT AGAIN CAUSING MORE DAMAGE. SPARK PLUG EJECTION IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE FUEL VAPOR STARTS COMING OUT THE SPARK PLUG HOLE, WHICH IS CLEARLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE COIL PACKS AND PLUGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED ON DIFFERENT TIMES AND THE VEHICLE STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS. FORD HAS TO FIND A BETTER SOLUTION TO FIX THESE ONGOING ISSUES SO THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT HAVE TO KEEP PAYING ALL THIS MONEY FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. BOUGHT THIS FORD F150 USED WITH 95,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD THE PLUGS AND FUEL FILTER NEEDED REPLACED BY THE 100,000 RANGE. MY LOCAL GARAGE SPENT HOURS REPLACING ONE PLUG AND WHEN THEY CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL FORD DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY WERE TOLD IT WAS A LONG ON GOING PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID, THEY COULD REMOVE THE PLUGS BUT IT WOULD BE $500.00 DOLLARS TO START AND IF THE PLUGS BROKE OFF IN THE HEADS THE COST COULD BE AS MUCH AS $3,000.00 IF THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE HEADS. RESEARCH SHOWS ME THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR EVER AND FORD REFUSES TO REPAIR OR RECALL THE F150 5.4 3V SPARK PLUG PROBLEM. BUILD UP AROUND THE BASE OF THE PLUGS FROM POOR HEAD DESIGN IS COSTING US CONSUMERS THOUSANDS. PEOPLE ARE GETTING HURT JUST TRYING TO REMOVE THESE PLUGS. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, MY FORD 2005 F150 KING RANCH SUPERCREW 4X4 ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55-60MPH. ON ALL THREE OCCASIONS, I FORTUNATELY WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE ENGINE DIED AND NO POWER STEERING. AFTER THE THIRD OCCASION THIS PAST WEEK, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN ROCKWALL, TEXAS WHERE IT COST ME $700.00 TO HAVE THROTTLE BODY/MOTOR ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE SPARK PLUGS HAD WELDED THEMSELVES TO THE ENGINE HEAD, ULTIMATELY REQUIRING THE REMOVEL OF THE ENGINE HEAD TO EXTRACT SPARK PLUG-COST $2,000 IN ADDITIONAL COST TO CONSUMER. INTERNET IS FULL OF SIMILAR REPORTS. MECHANICS AT FORD DEALERSHIP AND MIDAS REPORT FREQUENT ENCOUNTER WITH THIS ISSUE WITH SIMILAR RESULT. I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET (GRAY ST. )APPROACHING A BUSY TWO LANE STREET THAT WAS ONE WAY HEADING SOUTH (ARMENIA AVENUE) IN TAMPA, FLORIDA. AS I WAS APPROACHING THE STOP SIGN, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. PREPARING TO STOP, BUT INSTEAD OF STOPPING THE ENGINE REVVED AND ACCELERATED INTO THE LANES OF TRAFFIC TRAVELING SOUTH. I WAS STANDING ON THE BRAKE SO HARD THAT MY LEG WAS SHAKING WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE RPM'S FINALLY CAME DOWN AND THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL. I WAS SO NERVOUS BECAUSE IF THERE HAD BEEN CARS COMING I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE STREET IS USUALLY VERY HEAVY WITH TRAFFIC. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO ONE CLOSE OR I MAY NOT BE WRITING THIS TODAY. A FEW DAYS LATER I CAME TO THE SAME CORNER AND A BICYCLIST CROSSED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON APRIL 12TH, I WOULD HAVE RUN OVER THE BICYCLIST. I DROVE AROUND THE BLOCK VERY SLOWLY CONTINUING TO STOP AND RPM'S WERE NORMAL. I REALLY THOUGHT EVERYONE WOULD THINK I WAS CRAZY FOR WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. WHEN THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOUND THE PROBLEM ON THE COMPUTER I WAS RELIEVED TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM THAT COULD BE FIXED. IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. A MONTH LATER OUR OTHER FORD F-150, A 2007, HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS TIME MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT. THERE WAS A REPORT ON THIS VEHICLE ALSO. FORD IS NOT RECOGNIZING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND OTHER VEHICLES ARE BEING BROUGHT IN FOR THE SAME ISSUES WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITIES TO INNOCENT PARTIES DUE TO SOME DEFECT IN THE THROTTLE BODY'S ON THE F-150'S.
