customer states that the frame of the vehicle has been compromised by corrosion. the vehicle only has 163,844 miles on it and it has major holes in the frame. The chassis could break in half prohibiting the use of this vehicle on the roadway due to the safety of occupants. I advised the customer of this of which they bought a frame repair kit (Pre-cut over frame c-channel steel) to weld onto the frame to support a longer lifespan. The truck is now safe for the roadway.

This is an extended cab - 4 door - the rear doors are half doors with a a handle allowing entry and exit to and from the rear passenger seats. (It is not a crew cab 4 door). The doors LOCKED and the handles failed with a child in the rear seat. THe doors cannot be opened. The child and his mother had to climb over the center console to exit the vehicle. THe vehicle is at a mechanic who states no part are available to repair this faulty and unsafe door mechanism. Both rear doors are LOCKED. QUalified mechanic estimates the cost to rig a fix, in absence of any left door mechanism parts will be near or over $500.00. THe mechanic reports that the control cables from the handles to the door latch stretched and failed. If there had been a collision or engine fire, rear seated passengers would be trapped inside the vehicle. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED and REPAIRED BY FORD.

Frame started rusting through frame the inside out, first discovered in 2021. I had to have the frame repaired with no help from Ford in October of 2022

Frame on passenger and drive side by transmission, fuel tank, and rear leaf springs are rusted and have no integrity left. No structure integrity if in an accident. If fractures completely, will loose control of vehicle as the bed will contact cab, driveshaft will jamb into transmission, lock up brakes from pinched brake lines, loss of brakes from severed brake lines, lose control and go into on coming traffic or into roadside structures including pedestrians. The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. The contact stated that when he had the vehicle serviced that the independent mechanic informed him that the front and rear frame of the vehicle was rusted and he should not be driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance but did inform the contact to contact NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the bed of the truck was lower than usual. The contact looked underneath the vehicle and became aware of rust underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the vehicle was rusted and that the sub frame was cracking and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer stated that the vehicle needed to be inspected. The manufacturer was contacted, and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. This vehicle is part of the now famous Frame Rust Issue on 2004 - 2008 f-150 Extended Cab pickup trucks. This is a one owner well maintained, very clean vehicle in perfect running order. During regular service, I found rust spots on the frame. The rust appeared to be from the inside out. After further investigation the frame had been destroyed by internal rust. I condemned the vehicle and took it off the road. Further investigation showed this was a very widely known problem and contested Issue. I have undercoated this truck many times over the years and it was very clean. I. Have never received any notice from Ford about this well documented problem. I am in the process of repairing the frame via dorman products. Ford should be held to account any pay for this repair.

The frame of the vehicle is rusted through in multiple spots. When I picked the vehicle up on the lift the weight of the vehicle crushed the bottom side of the frame upward 1/2" upon inspection below the front doors where the frame is welded together it is also rusted through. While looking up recalls I found images and videos of other same generation F-150's that have the same problem. 1 video the entire bottom side of the frame from the engine to the front leaf spring mounts was rusted through. U-haul is aware of the issue and doesn't allow certain Ford vehicles to tow their trailers due to this issue. It's only a matter of time before the frames start breaking like the Toyota pickups and accidents start to come in.

This and many other trucks of this generation have major frame rot issues due to the box frame. The rest of my truck looks excellent but the frame is so bad its most likely not repairable. I am not the only one with this major safety issue. Its only a 16 year old truck. Thankfully I have not towed or put a large load in the bed or else it could split in half. I wash my car seasonally and pressure wash off rust every spring. Yet the frame has rotted so badly they could not put it on a lift to do the alignment. I love this truck and I'm a big fan of the f150 line as a whole. Ford should take responsibility as Toyota has and fix their customers frames from this generation. I love ford but its always interesting walking through a parking lot and seeing every 04-08 f150 with major frame rot. Without fail every single one has that issue. Seems to me like they didn't properly galvanize and protect the steel. I am now needing to do a bed off frame restoration since no shop will take it on. This truck that should be going for $5k with this insane used car market. (August 3rd 2020) yet it is max $200 in scrap. Bad / cheap engineering should not be the owners responsibility. Yet that is what it has come to. It was most likely an honest unforseen mistake on their part. Overengineering the rigidity but ignoring the long term effects. Short term strength for log term pain as is commonly said with these trucks. I'm sure in a few years time these will just start breaking in half over bumps on the freeway. I beg and encourage ford to fix this before people die. I doubt ford wants another pr fiasco like the pinto. Hopefully they will do a cost analysis and realize that a recall is a much better option. Seem like 250-500k a pop for settlements for the most popular truck of all time is much much more than 5k per affected vehicle. Not including the long term dip in sales. So unless they want the other brands to win the truck war they gotta fix it. Tldr: a recall is cheaper than death.

PURCHASED VEHICLE FEB 2021 FROM PRIVATE OWNER. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING. SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THE OIL CHANGE COULD NOT BE COMPLETED, BECAUSE THEY WERE AFRAID TO PLACE THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT MIGHT SPLIT DUE TO THE FRAME BEING RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. FURTHER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE CORROSION OF THE FRAME ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE. BOUGHT TRUCK LEAST WEEK TOOK IN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT HALF SHAFT IS ROTTEN TO THE POINT IT'S PITTING. THE STEERING SHAFT IS RUSTED OUT AND THE MAJORITY OF THE FRAME IS RUSTED OUT NEAR WHERE ALL THE IMPORTANT PARTS OF THE VEHICLE ARE HELD IN PLACE. AS I DO RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM I'M FINDING IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 61000 MILES ON IT AND IT SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS MUCH WEAR ON THE BODY OF THE TRUCK. FORD REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK INTO A RECALL BECAUSE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF TRUCKS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A FORD AND NEVER WILL AGAIN. THE CAR IS BASICALLY WORTHLESS AND IT'S A MATTER OF TIME WHEN IT RUSTS ALL THE WAY THRU. STATIONARY ISSUE. I DON'T HAVE ANY PHOTOS AS OF RIGHT NOW. ONE MECHANIC REPORTED THAT THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK WOULD REQUIRE OVER $1,000 OF WELDED STEEL REINFORCEMENTS TO MAKE TRUCK TOWE WORTHY. ALSO GAS TANK CAN FELL DUE TO THE TANK HOLDER STREEPS ARE ATTACHED TO THE CORROTED CHASSIS.

I HAVE A 2005 F150 FX4 THAT I BOUGHT IN 2010. IN 2017 WITH THE TRUCK BEING 12 YEARS OLD. I HAD TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROAD BECAUSE OF FRAME ROT! THIS WAS MY BABY AND TAKEN WELL CARE OF. BOTH SIDES IN FRONT OF THE REAR AXLE ARE ROTTED OUT TO THE POINT A JACK JUST GOES RIGHT THROUGH THEM. THE INSPECTION FAILED BECAUSE IF THEY WOULD HAVE LIFTED IT, IT WOULD HAVE FOLDED IN HALF. ALSO HAS A BROKEN FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING. I SHOULD HAVE A VEHICLE WORTH AROUND 8-10 GRAND THAT IS GOING TO SELL FOR SCRAP METAL PRICED. WHY ARE AMERICAN AUTO MAKER NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING DEFECTIVE VEHICLES? MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS AN 199O TOYOTA TACOMA THAT HAD A FRAME ROT RECALL AND MINE WAS SPOTLESS. FAST FORWARD, BOUGHT AN AMERICAN MADE VEHICLE THAT COST ME 15 GRAND AND GOT 6 AND A HALF YEARS OUT OF AND NO ONE HOLDING FORD RESPONSIBLE! SICKENING!

I OWN A 2005 FORD F-150 4X4 EXTENDED CAB WITH JUST OVER 60,000 MI. FOR ITS AGE, THE TRUCK IS IN PRETTY NICE SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THE FRAME, IT'S GONE, RUSTED! THERE IS A SECTION BETWEEN THE CAB & ENGINE BAY THAT YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGERS THROUGH, NOT ONE BUT SEVERAL FINGERS, LET ALONE IN OTHER AREAS THOUGH OUT THE FRAME THAT ARE ALSO ROTTED THROUGH. IT'S A BOXED FRAME WITH NO INSIDE COATING MADE WITH WHAT I READ ELSEWHERE WAS CHEEP STEEL, WON'T MENTION WHERE FROM, BUT NOT US STEEL. YES I LIVE IN NE, AND IT HAS TASTED SALT FROM THE ROADS, BUT I ALSO KEPT IT CLEAN ALL WINTER LONG. I PAID A LOT FOR THIS TRUCK, BOUGHT IT NEW AND NOW FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN CHEATED. I AM NOW ON MY THIRD NEW FORD TRUCK, A 2018, AND I'M AFRAID TO WALK BUY IT WITH A SALT SHAKER IN MY HAND. MY FIRST WAS A 1984 F-250 THAT I DROVE FOR 21 YEARS, PUT 100,000 MILES ON IT, SOLD IT IN 05, AND IS STILL ON THE ROAD TO THIS DAY ON IT'S THIRD OWNER. I KNOW WHERE IT LIVES. I'M READING ON LINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF THESE TRUCKS, LET ALONE I BELIEVE FORD HAS ALREADY REPLACED FRAMES IN A MINI VAN FOR THIS SAME REASON. I ALSO HAVE A FEW PICTURES. THERE IS A PIC JUST SHOWING THE UNDERSIDE, WHICH FOR THE MOST PART IS IN GOOD SHAPE, A LITTLE SURFACE RUST, NO THROUGH ROT. NOW THE FRAME PICS, ANOTHER STORY. THESE TRUCKS ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AS TO WHERE THE BOLTS HOLDING IT IN PLACE ROT OUT AND NOW YOU HAVE A NOISY EXHAUST LEAK TRUCK THAT HAS TO HAVE ITS MOTOR TAKEN OUT TO HAVE THAT REPAIRED, GOT THAT GOING ON ALSO. PREMATURE FRAME CORROSION AND RUST FAILURE, DURING RECENT ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME ON THE REAR HALF OF MY 2005 FORD F-150 HAD RUSTED UNDER THE BED AND REAR WHEEL WELLS TO THE POINT OF FAILURE WHERE THE FRAME WOULD NO LONGER SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE ON HIS LIFT. RUST THRU HOLES AND LONGITUDINAL CRACKS HAD FORMED ON THE BOTTOM AND SIDE FRAME SURFACES AT THE STRESS POINT BEFORE THE REAR WHEEL BEND. THIS SEEMS EXTREMELY UNUSUAL BECAUSE THE TRUCK HAS BEEN GENERALLY BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND MAINTAINED IN GOOD MECHANICAL CONDITION. THE EXTERIOR BODY ONLY EXHIBITS LIGHT SPOTS OF SURFACE RUST ON THE VISIBLE BODY PANELS. PROVIDING NO HINTS OF THE DEGRADATION OCCURRING BELOW. MY MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE FRAME STRUCTURE WAS IMMINENT AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. WHICH IN ITSELF IS CONCERNING IN THAT I HAD BEEN TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THE VEHICLE'S DETERIORATING CONDITION. 2005 FORD F150, ONLY 85,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE OVERALL EXTERIOR BODY OF TRUCK HAS ZERO RUST AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HOWEVER, THE MAIN "FRAME" OF THE TRUCK, WHICH SUPPORTS ALL THE WEIGHT AND STRUCTURE OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTED THROUGH. I LIVE IN WISCONSIN AND HAVE OWNED MANY FORDS, AND OTHER TRUCKS. NEVER HAVE I HAD A FRAME OF A TRUCK RUST OUT LIKE THIS. THESE TRUCK SHOULD LAST 200,000 MILES +, AND I HAVE DONE JUST THAT ON PREVIOUS VEHICLES. HOWEVER, WITH THE BODY HAVING ZERO RUST, IT IS OUT OF THE NORM TO SEE THIS FRAME RUSTED THROUGH WITH HOLES IN THE MAIN STRUCTURE OF THE FRAME. I WAS ADVISED BY MULTIPLE AUTO SHOPS THIS CAN NOT BE WELD REPAIRED DUE TO SAFETY STANDARDS. FURTHER, IN ORDER TO FIX THE ISSUE AND MAKE THE VEHICLE SAFE, THE ENTIRE FRAME MUST BE REPLACED. BEING THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT, I FIND IT ABSURD THAT THIS IS EVEN AN ISSUE. AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS SORT OF CORROSION ON THE UNDER BODY, AND YET THE QUARTER PANELS, TAILGATE, BUMPER ARE ALL ZERO RUST. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THERE IS A METALLURGICAL DEFECT IN THE STEEL USED FOR THIS FRAME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS POSTINGS BY OTHERS OWNING THE 2005 MODEL AND MANY HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. FRAME RUSTING OUT BEFORE IT EVEN HITS 100,000 MILES, AND THESE ARE DAILY DRIVERS. AS OF NOW, THIS VEHICLE IS DEEMED UNSAFE BY THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, AND EVEN THE MASTER TECHNICIAN ON SITE WAS PERPLEXED BY THE UNDERCARRIAGE CORRODING AS IT HAD, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE "CLEAN" INSIDE AND OUT, WITH NO RUST.

I WAS STILL DRIVING THIS TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW AND IT WAS DRIVEWAY PARKED IN CONNECTICUT FOR THE 12 YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT. THE MILEAGE ON THE TRUCK IS A LITTLE OVER 40K AND THE BODY PARTS OF THE TRUCK LOOK VERY GOOD. I HAD TO SCRAP THE TRUCK FOR PARTS, VERY SAD. WAS SITTING IDLE IN A PARKING LOT WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD POP. WHEN I STARTED TO ROLL MY WINDOW DOWN ON MY 2005 FORD F150 SUPER CAB, THE WINDOW DROPPED DOWN AND SOUNDED LIKE BROKEN GLASS. AFTER REMOVING THE PANEL I SAW THE CABLE MESSED UP. THEN AFTER GOOGLING TO FIND AN ANSWER, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT DOZENS, PERHAPS HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING WITH THE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR. THE PLASTIC CLIP BREAKS AND THE CABLE GETS MESSED UP. FORD IS MAKING A KILLING OFF OWNERS BY USING CHEAP, BREAKABLE PARTS. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED! I HAVE NO MONEY TO REPLACE THIS REGULATOR RIGHT NOW, SO I AM AT THE MERCY OF THE GODS IN HOPE THAT SOMEONE DOESN'T STEAL MY TRUCK, OR IT DOESN'T RAIN, SINCE WITH THIS PART BROKEN THE WINDOW WILL NOT STAY UP. 2005 FORD F-150 WITH <25K MILES HAS PAINT SPONTANEOUSLY PEELING OFF OF THE TAILGATE, HOOD AND ROOF. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (WHO DID NOT SELL THIS TRUCK) INITIALLY STATED THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE PAINT JOB, IN THE METAL ITSELF AND PRETENDED TO FILE A PICTORIAL CLAIM OF THE DAMAGES. FORD'S "CUSTOMER SERVICE" DEPARTMENT DENIED THE CLAIM, STATING THAT OUR REQUEST WAS TO REPAINT AREAS THAT HAD SCRATCHES AND DENTS. THIS IS THE FURTHEST THING FROM THE TRUTH. "CUSTOMER SERVICE" SAID THAT ONCE A CLAIM IS REVIEWED THEY ARE DONE WITH IT AND THERE IS NO FURTHER RECOURSE. IN THE MEANTIME, WE ARE STUCK WITH A THREE-YEAR OLD TRUCK THAT IS LOSING PAINT DAILY AND BEGINNING TO RUST. *TR

PURCHASED A 2005 F-150 4X4 FORD PICK-UP TRUCK AND IMMEDIATELY FELT A STRONG VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. TOOK IT BACK TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS EACH ONE CLAIMING THEY FIX IT. THE VIBRATION STILL EXISTS AND NOW THE STEERING WHEEL IS VIBRATING. I BELIEVE THIS TRUCK IS UNSAFE. I WILL CONTINUE TO EXHAUST ALL AVENUES TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THIS TRUCK. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TAILGATE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS HANGING BY THE CABLES. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT 10 MPH, HAULING A 300 POUND COUCH. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THIS WAS NOT A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THOUGH THEY ADMITTED THAT IT WAS NOT THE CONTACT'S FAULT. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE TAILGATE WAS BUILT EXTREMELY LIGHT, AND IT WAS SPRING LOADED. FELT THAT THE DEALER SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *AK

MY PAINT JOB WAS DEFECTIVE AND THIN, MY WINDSHIELD WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY, THERE ARE TICKING NOISES FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD, THE FRONT END IS TOO HEAVY FOR THE ADDED WEIGHT TO THE TRUCK, THE TRANSMISSION STALLS THE TRUCK WHEN IT ROLLS BACKWARDS IN DRIVE, THE TRUCK SHAKES AT HIGH SPEEDS AND HAS EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR, WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT FORD HAS ALL BUT ADMITTED TO BY EXTENDING THE EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR/RIDE HARSHNESS WARRANTY FROM 1YR/12,000 MILES TO 3YRS/36,000 MILES. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A CAR COMPANY GIVING AWAY SOMETHING UNLESS THERE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. *NM

THE WIRING THAT UNDER THE FLOOR MAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS UNDER WATER AND FROZE INTO ICE. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED THEY OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO THE CONTACT.
