AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES I HEARD A HISSING NOISE THAT LASTED FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND THEN A HEARD LOUD POP AND THEN THE WINDSHIELD SHATTERED. MANY OTHER ARTICLES ON THE WEB INDICATE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE REAR DEFROST. I CALLED FORD AND THEY WILL NOT OFFER AND COMPENSATION TO HAVE IT FIXED EVEN THOUGH IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. POWER WINDOWS DEVICES & CONTROLS - WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE MY WIFE AND I DROVE MY 2005 FORD F150 TO PICK UP MY SON UP FROM KINDERGARTEN AND WHILE DRIVING HOME, GOING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH DURING A SEVERE FLORIDA THUNDER STORM WE HEARD A LOUD POP, THEN CRACKLE WHICH SOUNDED LIKE IT CAME FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I PULLED OVER IN THE STORM TO SEE IF ANYTHING STRUCK THE DOOR. SINCE I SAW NOTHING I PULLED BACK ONTO THE ROAD AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW ABRUPTLY FLEW DOWN INTO THE DOOR AND DISAPPEARED. MY 5 YEAR OLD SON WHO WAS SITTING DIRECTLY BEHIND ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN HIS CAR SEAT, WAS TERRIFIED, CRYING AND WET FROM RAIN FLYING IN THE WINDOW, WE WERE 5 MINUTES FROM HOME AND PULLED INTO THE GARAGE. MY SON AND I WERE SOAKED AND ALL THREE OF US WERE SHAKEN. I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND OUT THE ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY A WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WITH A SMALL CHILD IN THE CAR. WHEN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE FURTHER I FOUND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS, HOWEVER FORD HAS NOT RESPONDED, NOR ADDRESSED THIS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS ISSUE. CURRENTLY MY WINDOW IS TAPED WITH A BAG TO COVER THE WINDOW HOLE AS WE DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE SINCE BOTH WIFE AND I WERE LAID OFF RECENTLY. THIS ISSUE IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE COST IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED. IS IT A FAULTY PART ON THE MANUFACTURER'S SIDE, IS IT A FORD ENGINEERING PROBLEM? IT WAS TERRIFYING, AND I AM LUCKY NOT TO HAVE HAD A MORE SERIOUS INCIDENT. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. TO MY DISMAY, THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOT A CURRENT RECALL FOR THIS SITUATION AND I WOULD NEED TO HAVE A NEW WINDOW REGULATOR INSTALLED. BASICALLY, THE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE WINDOW TO CRASH DOWN. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE FOUND THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE (SOME MULTIPLE TIMES) WITH EITHER THE 2004 OR 2005 YEAR MODELS. TORE INTO THE DOOR WHEN WE GOT HOME AND FOUND THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR PULLEY FAILED IN THIS WINDOW ALSO. SO, I PUSHED THE GLASS BACK UP AND WEDGED ANOTHER PIECE OF PVC PIPE. ASIDE FROM THE RINGING IN MY EAR THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON FROM THE "GUNSHOT", THERE WERE NO INJURIES. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 FORD F150 SUPERCAB TRUCK. I RECENTLY HAD ANOTHER POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAIL ON MY VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 35MPH. THIS IS THE SECOND REGULATOR THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE (THE FIRST ONE OCCURRED THREE YEARS AGO). WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURS THE WINDOW JUST DROPS COMPLETELY DOWN INTO THE DOOR WITH NO WARNING. WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT CAUSES A VERY BIG DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS OF THE VEHICLE. THREE YEARS AGO, WHEN THE FIRST REGULATOR FAILED, I HAD MY VEHICLE PARKED (LUCKILY AT HOME) AND I NOTICED THAT THE WINDOW WAS IN THE DOWN POSITION. I RECALLED ROLLING THE WINDOW UP WHEN I PARKED MY VEHICLE, SO I GOT IN IT TO PUT THE WINDOW IN THE UP POSITION. AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION ON AND PRESSING THE UP BUTTON, NOTHING HAPPENED. THIS TIME IT WAS THE DRIVERS WINDOW. I AM VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE NOT PARKED MY VEHICLE IN A PUBLIC PLACE WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE GIVEN ANYONE ACCESS TO THE INSIDE OF MY VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES DID NOT RESULT IN ANY INJURY OR LOSSES, THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE CONCERNING VEHICLE SAFETY. I CONDUCTED SOME INTERNET RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS THAT OTHER 2004-2005 F150 OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THESE WINDOW REGULATORS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE REMAINING 2 WINDOWS WILL FAIL OVER TIME. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A REPLACEMENT WINDOW REGULATOR INSTALLED. ONE OF THE REGULATOR REPLACEMENTS WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE MOST RECENT ONE WAS NOT. THIS REPAIR COST WAS $220. I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT REGULAR MAINTENANCE NOR NORMAL VEHICLE CARE COULD PREVENT. THIS IS A DEFINITE EQUIPMENT FLAW THAT THE OWNER HAS NO WARNING OF WHEN IT WILL OCCUR. THE PROBLEM WAS THE SAME FOR ALL, THE PLASTIC PARTS THAT RETAIN THE END OF THE DRIVE CABLE LET LOOSE AND THEN THE CABLE UNWRAPS FROM THE MOTOR PULLEY. SINCE FORD DOES NOT SELL ANY SERVICE PARTS FOR THESE REGULATORS THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $200 EACH. SO FAR IT HAS COST ME A TOTAL OF $815.56 AND I AM EXTREMELY UPSET OVER THIS SITUATION. AS A COMPARISON, I DROVE MY 1985 AND MY 1994 F150'S FOR 152K AND 204K MILES RESPECTIVELY AND NEVER HAD A SINGLE ELECTRIC WINDOW PROBLEM WITH EITHER. ALSO, THE SERVICE AND PARTS STAFF AT THE DEALERSHIP ADMIT THERE IS A HIGH FAILURE RATE ON THESE REGULATORS BUT FORD IS NOT ISSUING ANY RECALLS. FIX AND A TRUCK OWNER SAYS 35-45 MINUTES IN HIS DRIVEWAY (INTERNET). THE FAULTY CABLE CAN'T BE PURCHASED FROM DEALER (FOR DO-IT-YOURSELF) WITHOUT BUYING WINDOW ALSO (INTERNET). THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT SEEMS TO BE A MONEY MAKER FOR FORD. THIS IS NOT ONLY AN AGGRAVATION AND INCONVENIENCE, BUT ALSO A SECURITY (SAFETY) PROBLEM. THIS SITUATION CAN OCCUR WHILE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND DRIVER NOT IN ATTENDANCE. UPON RETURNING, DRIVER MAY FIND MUGGER IN BACK, CONTENTS MISSING OR VEHICLE STOLEN DUE TO EASY ACCESS THROUGH FALLEN WINDOW. *TR

THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FALLS DOWN INTO THE DOOR, WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AND WOULD NOT ROLL BACK UP. HAD TO HAVE TO WINDOW REGULATOR AND WINDOW MOTOR REPLACED COMPLETELY DUE TO THE ELEVATOR CABLES OF THE WINDOW REGULATOR BREAKING. HAS HAPPENED TO MORE THAN ONE WINDOW. *TR

NORMAL USE OF MY 2005 FORD F-150 IN THE PAST TWO YEARS HAS LEAD TO A FEW ITEM I BELIEVE CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE. THE LATEST IS THE DRIVERS SEAT BREAKING ITS LOWER FRAME AND SEAT PAD TRAY. FORD HAS YET TO FIX THIS ISSUE AS THEY CLAIM PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. THE SEAT IS "ROCKING" DURING NORMAL DRIVING AND IS A CONCERN OF MINE IF IT SHOULD TOTALLY FAIL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN USE LEADING TO A CRASH. IT IS ALSO AT A SLIGHT TILT CAUSING ME TO SIT IN A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE POSITION. IT HAS BEEN A MONTH SINCE I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, BUT THE PARTS ARE STILL ON ORDER TO FIX IT. THIS IS A UN-REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO HAVE TO WAIT. ALSO 3 OUT OF THE FIVE WINDOWS OF MY TRUCK HAVE BROKEN, THIS RESULTS IN THE WINDOW REGULATOR BREAKING CAUSING THE WINDOW TO DROP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR. THIS LEAVES ME AND MY VEHICLE OPEN TO THE WEATHER AND/OR BEING UNSECURED IF DRIVING IN A LESS THAN SAFE AREA. THE WINDOWS HAVE BEEN FIXED IN THE SAME DAY WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT FOR PARTS AS THE DEALER HAS STATED "WE KEEP THE PARTS AVAILABLE AS IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM". BUT THEY CAN NOT FIX THE OTHER TWO UNTIL THEY BREAK AS FORD WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO UNLESS THEY BREAK. AS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO ME THE ISSUE SHOULD BE FIXED BEFORE ANY OTHER WINDOWS FAIL. *NM

I HAVE A 2005 F-150 4-DOOR 2WD WITH A RETRACTABLE SUNROOF. AT ABOUT 3000 MILES IT STARTED LEAKING FROM RAINING SO MUCH IN WA STATE. I TOOK IT TO TITUS-WILL FORD IN TACOMA AND THEY FIXED IT IN A TIMELY MANNER. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. *NM
