While driving lost power from 70 mph to 45 mph drove it slow home Once I parked check engine light and noticed smoke coming from behind and lower part of engine after checking for heat source noticed glowing areas it was the insulation between engine and floor I had to use extinguisher in 4 areas to extinguish I disconnected battery power
The phasers and the timing chain and tensioners is failing. This is premature failure due to engineering mistakes in the design. This is a safety critical walk home failure. Failure will destroy the engine (interference engine). Complete loss of all power and lock up of engine. Mechanic said the only remedy is a rebuilt engine. A reputable engine rebuilder states in their ad on the internet that they have corrected the Ford Motor Company engineering design mistakes in the 5.4l Triton engine.

MUST CRACK WINDOW FOR FRESH AIR OR TURN OFF HEATING/DEFROST SYSTEM. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE MID NOVEMBER BUT ONLY WHEN TURNING ON THE HEATING/DEFROST SYSTEM. HAPPENS AT HWY SPEEDS AND LOCAL DRIVING SPEED BETWEEN 30-50 MPH.

EVERY VEHICLE THAT FORD PUT OUT WITH A CAM PHASER IS EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE CAN PHASER. ANY SAE CERTIFIED MECHANIC WILL VERIFY THIS. THIS IS A HORRIBLE DESIGN. WHY HASN'T FORD STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND FIXED THIS ISSUE? I BELIEVE THEY ARE TRYING TO BURY IT SO THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO INCUR THE COST OF FIXING THEIR MISTAKE. DUE TO THIS ISSUE I'VE BEEN STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK LOOSES POWER, WON'T GO INTO GEAR....ETC....THIS HAPPENS AFTER THE CAN PHASER HAS ACTIVATED AND THEN I COME TO A STOP. THEN IT'S MISFIRING STALLING NOT GOING INTO GEAR...YOU NAME IT IT'S AN ISSUE. A COMPUTE READ ON THE OBD2 STAYED THAT I HAD MISSES IN IGNITION COILS 1,3 AND 7 REPLACED THEM THEN THE TEACHING STAYED MISFIRED IS 2,4 AND 5 REPLACED THEM AND ALL THE SAME ISSUES... EVERY MECHANIC I'VE SPOKEN TO SAYS ABSOLUTEY THE PHASES AND THAT THEY HAVE TO PUT A CAM PHASER DELETE KIT IN THESE VEHICLES DO GET RID OF THESE PROBLEMS. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I CALLED THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, AND THAT IT WOULD BE ON ME. I LOOKED ON SEVERAL FORD FORUMS AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE 1000'S OF PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED BEFORE FORD OWNS UP TO THERE PROBLEMS! I BROUGHT INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHO CONFIRMED TO ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WENT OUT. THIS IS NOW THE 3 THROTTLE BODY THAT MY TRUCK HAD HAD (9 YEARS OLD AND 130,000 MILES). AFTER DOING RESEARCH I SAW WHERE FORD HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER MODEL VEHICLES AND INSTEAD OF RECALLING EXTENDED WARRANTIES TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IF IT OCCURS WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC YOU LOSE ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I THINK FORD HAS A MAJOR ISSUE HERE THAT IT IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS.

I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A FORD DEALERSHIP THAT TOLD ME THE SAME THING THE MECHANIC SAID AND THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $2,000 TO REPLACE. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70 WHEN THE PLUG BEGAN A VERY NOTICEABLY LOUD RHYTHMIC LEAK WITH THE IGNITION OF THAT CYLINDER. ALSO, WHEN I SAW THE PROBLEM WHEN I LOOKED AT THE SPARK PLUG. IT HAD ALREADY HAD AN EXISTING HELICOIL PUT IN. AND YOU COULD TELL THIS HAPPEND WAY BEFORE 200K MILES. BECAUSE THE OLD SPARK PLUG WAS WORN ALMOST ALL THE WAY DOWN. I STILL HAVE THE OLD SPARK PLUG.

THEY DECIDED TO GO WITH THAT. THEY ORDERED THE ENGINE AND INSTALLED IT ( WELL WHAT DO YOU KNOW THE REPLACEMENT HAD THE SAME PROB) THEY HAD TO PULL THAT ENGINE AND GET ANOTHER FROM THE COMPANY . TOOK AN EXTRA WEEK AND GOT THE TRUCK BACK ITS NOW AT 100K AND STILL RUNS WELL (SO I KNOW IT WASNT MY DRIVING) SO IT HAD TO BE THE INCORRECT PLACEMENT OF THAT SEAL FROM THE DEALER, WHICH WOULD LEAKED HOT OIL ONTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSE A FIRE. I LOOKED AT THE ORIGIONAL PAPER WORK THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE TH ORIGIONAL WIRING HARNESS BEFORE IT EVEN LEFT THE FACTORY.

IT ERODES OUT FROM THE BOTTOM SIDE AND THE MOUNTING BRACKET. WHEN REPLACED, WAS INFORMED THAT IT IS A REDESIGNED COMPONENT, LIFTING IT AWAY FROM MOUNTING BRACKET. IF I HAD NOT HAD ENOUGH ROOM BETWEEN ME AND THE TRACTOR TRAILER TRAVELING BEHIND ME, OR IF I HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING NEXT TO ME, IT COULD BE A TOTAL DIFFERENT OUTCOME. FORD COMPANY AND MY DEALERSHIP, OF COURSE, DENIED ANY PROBLEMS EVEN AFTER I CITED SEVERAL CASES IN WHICH THIS OCCURRED WITH OTHER CARS. THEY SAID SOMETIMES SENSORS GO OUT AND THEY SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT BUT WERE HAPPY TO DO A DIAGNOSIS FOR $100. I SEE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEMS COMPARED TO THE NEW BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEMS AND AM TOTALLY UNNERVED THAT FORD WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS. WATER LEAKING FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD COOLANT CROSSOVER LINE. CROSSOVER IS AN ALUMINUM PIPE THAT CONNECTS TO THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD. WHEN MANIFOLD STARTED LEAKING COOLANT, 1 & 2 SPARK PLUG HOLES FILLED WITH WATER CAUSING SPARK PLUGS TO SHORT OUT AND STALL THE ENGINE AT LOW SPEED. PER FORD THE ONLY REPAIR IS REPLACEMENT OF THE COMPLETE INTAKE MANIFOLD AT A COST OF OVER $1200.00. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE. I WAS INFORMED BY BOTH THE DEALER AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY THEY WILL NOT REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS PRIOR ISSUE DURING THE WARRANTLY TIME. DEALER WANTS APPROXIMATELY $300.00 TO INSPECT TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. AWAITING PARTS TO DO REPAIRS. (98.00) HAD A TRANSMISSION SHUDDER AT LIGHT LOAD IN OVERDRIVE. FLUSHED TRANSMISSION WITH BG PRODUCTS AND FLUSH MACHINE. ADDED NEW TRANS FLUID AND CONDITIONER. TRANSMISSION NOW SHUDDERS AT ALL SPEEDS WHEN HOT. WILL ORDER NEW FILTER AND REPLACE. WILL ADD FRICTION MODIFIER AND TRY AGAIN. HAVE TO TOW ANOTHER VEHICLE THIS WEEKEND AND AM AFRAID TO DO SO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO FORD COUNTRY IN LAS VEGAS AND THE SERVICE WRITER SAID I WAS DREAMING THAT SOMETHING LIKE THAT COULD NOT HAPPEN. I ASSURE YOU THAT MY TRUCK ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN THREE TIMES AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 10 MPH. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS A REPORTED PROBLEM WITH A FIX. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY TRUCK IN TOWN AND ESPECIALLY IN TRAFFIC WHERE IT MIGHT ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND HURT SOMEONE. ANY INFORMATION THAT YOU NEED I CAN PROVIDE. NOW I AM TOLD THAT ALL THE REMAINING SPARK PLUGS ARE EFFECTED, BUT THEY DON'T SEE ANY ISSUE WHEN THEY RUN DIAGNOSTICS. THEREFORE, IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. GREAT. I HAVE A 2007 F150 AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT MY FAMILY AND I WERE IN CT AND WERE DOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO BUCK VIOLENTLY AND DROPPED TO 20MPH WITH OUT A WARNING OR LIGHTS. THEN IT STARTED TO RUN NORMAL THEN STARTED THE SAME THING ALL OVER 20 MINUTES LATER. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE SPARK PLUGS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NO GARAGE WILL TOUCH IT DUE TO FORDS POOR DESIGN FORD SAYS IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS PLUS DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN THE SPARK PLUGS CAN BRAKE IN THE CYLINDER HEADS. THEY SAID IT CAN BE $50.00 PER BROKEN SPARK PLUG AND POSSIBLY MORE IF THE PLUG CANNOT REMOVE BROKEN PART. I SHOULD ONLY PAY FOR PLUGS NOT FORDS DESIGN FLOOR WHICH NEED TO BE RECALLED. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ONLY WAY THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED IS IF THE CONTACT COULD PROVIDE THE MANUFACTURE WITH PROOF THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED EVERY THREE MONTHS AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN A PARKING SPOT AT A POST OFFICE. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND DID NOT GIVE IT ANY GAS AND THE ENGINE REVVED TO 6000 RPM'S. NOT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED, I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT DID THE SAME THING BUT STARTED TO COME DOWN IN THE RPM'S BUT I STILL TURNED ENGINE OFF. I STARTED IT A THIRD TIME AND IT REVVED AGAIN BUT CAME BACK TO NORMAL RPM'S. ALL THIS WITHOUT GIVING IT ANY GAS. IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY OTHER F-150 THAT IS A 2005 WHICH I WILL ALSO FILE A DETAILED REPORT ON FOLLOWING THIS REPORT. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLEBODY AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID OTHER FORDS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT FORD HAS NOT DONE A RECALL AND HAS FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS PROBLEM. AS YOU WILL SEE IN MY REPORT ON MY 2005, IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATALITY DUE TO THIS ISSUE. LOOKING AT BLOGS IN THE INTERNET, OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE 2005 APPROACHING A STOP SIGN ENTERING INTO A VERY BUSY STREET AND THE ENGINE REVVED AND PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO DEPRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP.
