Frame of the body is completely rusted through to the point that it is almost unsafe to drive. It was identified when attempting to replace the rocker panel on the passenger side and the list put a hole in the frame. The vehicle has been well maintained but the amount of rust seems unusual for the age of the vehicle. I know the previous owner and he took painstakingly good care of the vehicle and it has been driven very little since I purchased it a couple of years back. The fix is to repair the frame at the cost of $3k plus or let it rust away completely. The amount of rust does not add up and I see similar issues with thousands of comments online.

Door Striker Plate, latching Hook on Rocker Plate, lower side of driver side door frame, between front and rear doors is rusted. This does not allow the doors, front or rear driver side, to close securely. Attempted to contact Ford dealerships with no response. Took to independent Body Shop who said it is definitely a safety issue.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT NOTICED RUST ON THE BOTTOM CORNERS OF THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER CREW CAB DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A DRAIN TUBE CAME FROM THE SUN ROOF AND HAD NO WAY FOR THE WATER TO GET OUT. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS RUST AROUND THE LOWER FRONT STRIP OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS, AND THE BOTTOM TWO CORNERS OF THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS NEEDED TO BE CUT OUT AND THE METAL RE-WELDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER (KIP KILLMON FORD, 201 E MAIN ST, LOUISA, VA 23093 (540) 967-1350) WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT NHTSA'S PHONE NUMBER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR A VEHICLE OF THAT YEAR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

FIRST THE RIGHT REAR DOOR SHOWS THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR SO THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING FOR ABOUT TEN MILES BEFORE THEY GO OUT AND WHEN YOU STOP THE VEHICLE AND GET OUT THE LIGHTS STAY ON FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES SO IT RUNS THE BATTERY DOWN. SECOND THING IS THE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE DON'T RETURN TO THE CLOSED POSITION IT STAYS HALF WAY OUT AND A PIECE OF PLASTIC FELL OUT OF DOOR HANDLE I CONTACTED THE FORD COMPANY ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEMS. WHILE TRYING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AFTER PARKING, THE FRONT DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK OR OPEN. THE LOCK KNOB AND INSIDE HANDLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE OUTSIDE HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR EITHER. THE DRIVER HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE CENTER CONSOLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE PASSENGER DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE DOOR LATCH WAS SEIZED. AFTER REPLACING THE DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY, THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE AND A CABLE, THE DOOR NOW FUNCTIONS PROPERLY.

WHEN OPENING THE LEFT REAR DOOR FROM INSIDE WHILE IT IS STATIONARY, THE HANDLE DOES NOT RETURN TO THE STOWED POSITION AFTER OPENING THE DOOR UNLESS IT IS PUSHED MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE IN ADDITION TO ANOTHER UNRELATED ISSUE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED THAT THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE EXACTLY WHAT WAS MENTIONED IN A RECALL I FOUND INVOLVING THIS MODEL/YEAR VEHICLE (RECALL NUMBER 11V04900, RECALL DATE 02/01/2011). THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY OPEN RECALLS, BUT WOULD INSPECT THE IT ANYWAY. THE DEALER DID VERIFY THE CONDITION AND PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR IT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DRIVER INTERIOR DOOR LATCH SPRING FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. IN APRIL 2014 I NOTICED A VAST AMOUNT OF WATER COLLECTING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT FLOOR. THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE SUNROOF DOWN THE HEADLINER AND THROUGH THE POST TO THE FLOOR. I INSPECTED THE SUNROOF AND FOUND THE DRIP PAN TO BE WET. I POURED A LITTLE WATER THROUGH THE DRAIN HOSE AND IT DID NOT GO THROUGH. I BROUGHT IT TO FORD FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DRAIN HOSE WAS KINKED AND WAS LIKE THAT FROM THE FACTORY. THEY CUT THE DRAIN HOSE TO THE CORRECT LENGTH AND ADJUSTED THE SUNROOF. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE VEHICLES EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT. I PAID OUT OF POCKET $210. FAST FORWARD TO DECEMBER 10, 2014, WHEN I NOTICED WATER COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT ASSIST HANDLE. I WENT TO FORD FOR SERVICE AND MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE TECH AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERYONE WHO HAS A SUNROOF WAS EXPERIENCING THIS DUE TO THE HEAVY RAIN. THIS MORNING DECEMBER 17TH, I NOTICED WATER IN THE SAME AREA COMING FROM THE HANDLE. I CHECKED THE SUNROOF AND DID NOT FIND THE PAN TO BE WET. I CALLED FORD AND ADVISED THEM, AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN DECEMBER 22ND FOR ANOTHER WATER TEST. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, SO I WILL AGAIN HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THIS TRUCK HAS 19,000 MILES ON IT AND IT CAN'T BE DRIVEN IN RAIN. WE ARE THE OWNERS OF A 2009 FORD F-150. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WE RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL STATING THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE DOOR AND THAT WE NEEDED TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS. WE FOLLOWED PROCEDURE AND TOOK OUR TRUCK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP & THE RECALL ISSUE WAS FIXED (OR SO WE THOUGHT) AND WE NEVER GAVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT. WELL, FAST FORWARD TO A LITTLE OVER 1 MONTH AGO ( APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS AFTER THE 'RECALL' ISSUE WAS FIXED ), OUR TRUCK WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. NOT A MAJOR ACCIDENT, BUT A FENDER BENDER. WHEN THE OTHER VEHICLE HIT OUR TRUCK, THE SIDE PASSENGER DOOR OPENED/ UNLATCHED. THE ORIGINAL RECALL STATED IT WOULD/ COULD UNLATCH DURING A SIDE IMPACT, BUT THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE FIXED THAT. IN OUR MINDS THAT PROBLEM WAS FIXED & WE HAD PEACE OF MIND. WELL OUR TRUCK DID NOT RECEIVE A SIDE IMPACT, BUT A REAR END IMPACT, AND THE DOOR ISSUE APPARENTLY WAS NOT FIXED AT ALL. THE PASSENGER DOOR OPENED/ UNLATCHED AND MIND YOU, THIS WAS A FAIRLY MINOR ACCIDENT. ONLY PROPERTY DAMAGE, NO BODILY INJURIES. THIS STARTED ABOUT SPRING OF 2011. MY TRUCK HAD ABOUT 26,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN WHEN I HEARD A TRICKLE OF WATER IN THE BACK SEAT. I LOOKED BACK AND SAW NOTHING. LATER WHEN I GOT TO WORK I CHECKED TO SEE IF I COULD FIND OUT WHAT THE TRICKLE NOISE WAS. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE ROOF WAS LEAKING. IN THE BACK TWO CORNERS OF THE CAB WATER WAS COMING IN. APPARENTLY, A HARD RAIN CAUSES THE WATER TO POOL ON THE ROOF. THE RUBBER GASKET ON THE ROOF HAS APPARENTLY BECOME BRITTLE AND IS LETTING WATER IN. I LOOKED ONLINE FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND SAW OTHERS, INCLUDING LEAKS FROM THE SATELLITE ANTENNA AND THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT. PLEASE HELP. DROPPED OFF VEHICLE WITH FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISER AND PROCEEDED TO WAITING AREA. VEHICLE HAD A STEADY YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT INDICATING SERVICE IS REQUIRED. FIVE MINUTES LATER, LOUD ENGINE RACING NOISE, TIRES SQUEALING AND CRASH IMPACT SOUND FROM SERVICE BAY AREA. KNOWING IT WAS MY TRUCK, I WENT OUT TO THE SERVICE BAY TO SEE IT SLAMMED THROUGH THE FAR STONE WALL, ABOUT 75 FEET FROM THE SERVICE DESK. HYDRAULIC FLUID WAS ALL OVER THE FLOOR, OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE TRUCK. SERVICE ADVISER WAS STUNNED AND CRAWLED OUT OF VEHICLE CLAIMING IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HE COULD NOT PUT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK AS THE ENGINE RACED AT FULL RPM. SERVICE ADVISER WAS SENT TO HOSPITAL. FORD SERVICE MANAGER WAS CONCERNED AND AGREED TO CHECK ENGINE CODES, HE TALKED LIKE HE'D SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. ALL SERVICE ENGINEERS WERE CONCERNED ABOUT SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION THEY ALL WITNESSED AS THE TRUCK MIRACULOUSLY BARRELED THROUGH THE SERVICE BAYS WITHOUT HITTING ANY OF THE WORKERS. LATER IN THE DAY, I RETURNED TO CHECK STATUS AND EVERYONE AT DEALERSHIP CHANGED THEIR STORY. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND WATER STAINS ON THE HEADLINER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND IN THE REAR OF THE CAB AT BOTH CORNERS. MY BUMPER TO BUMPER EXPIRED LAST MONTH, I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD AND REGARDLESS OF HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN LEAKING I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. WHILE MY TRUCK WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, WE HAD A VERY BAD TROPICAL STORM COME THROUGH, WHEN I WENT TO GET IN MY TRUCK I NOTICED THAT MY BACK SEAT WAS WET AND THE BACK OF MY HEAD LINING WAS WET AND HAD WATER SPOTS ON IT. SO I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER THINKING MY REAR WINDOW WAS LEAKING, BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY THIRD BRAKE LIGHT AND THE SEAL AROUND IT WAS BAD. SO INSTEAD OF IT BEING COVERED UNDER THE TRUCKS WARRANTY THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED PLUS PAY FOR MY SEATS TO BE CLEANED FROM THE WATER DAMAGE. BECAUSE IT IS STILL RAINING I DID NOT HAVE NO CHOICE, BUT I THINK THAT IF FORD HAVE HAD ALL THESE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS HAPPENING TO OTHER VEHICLES, THEY SHOULD HAVE A RECALL AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS AND WATER DAMAGE CAUSED BY THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WE PAY TO MUCH MONEY FOR THESE VEHICLES TO HAVE TO PUT WITH A COMPANY THAT KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND WANT DO NOTHING TO FIX IT, BUT MAKES THE CUSTOMER SUFFERS AND PAYS THE PRICE FOR THEIR NEGLECT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BUMPER WAS CRASHED INTO TWICE AT LOW SPEEDS AND TOTALLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE STRUCTURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE BUMPER WAS MANUFACTURER OF DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,000.

AT AROUND 3500 MILES ON MY 2009 FORD F150 SUPERCREW, I NOTICED A MILDEW SMELL AND CONDENSATION FORMING ON THE INSIDE OF MY WINDOWS. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND IT IS DUE TO LIQUID IN THE CAB SOMEWHERE. I PULLED UP EACH KICKPLATE AND FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE UNDER MY RIGHT REAR CAB KICKPLATE. WATER WAS ACCUMULATING DOWN THERE WITH ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED IT WAS DUE TO THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. IT WAS REPLACED. AT 5000, I NOTICED THE SMELL AGAIN AND KNEW RIGHT WHERE TO LOOK. I DID AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE SAME THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ONLY THEY SAID THIS ONE HAD A STRONGER SEAL. I JUST HIT 6500 MILES AND NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM AND SMELL, AND POPPED THE KICKPLATE AND HAD THE WATER AGAIN. I AM FIXING TO CALL THE DEALER ON MONDAY TO LET THEM KNOW. AFTER LOOKING IN MY CAB I NOTICED A SPOT OF DRIED WATER RESIDUE ON MY HEADLINER. I AM GOING TO POINT THIS OUT TO THEM AND LET THEM KNOW SOMETHING IS NOT SEALING CORRECTLY WHICH COULD VERY WELL COMPROMISE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WITH ALL THE WIRES DOWN UNDER THE KICKPLATE WHERE THE WATER ACCUMULATES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN A RAINSTORM A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT REAR SEAT NOTICED WATER POURING IN FROM THE HEADLINE ONTO HER SHOULDER. FIRST GLANCE WE THOUGHT MAYBE THE WINDOW SEAL WAS LEAKING. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND STARTED EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AND BEFORE I COULD COMPLETE MY SENTENCE THEY REPLIED "...OH YES ITS THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SEAL, BRING IT IN AND WE'LL REPLACE IT." WOW A KNOWN ISSUE AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN REPLACING THE SEAL I HAD REQUESTED THAT THE HEADLINER BE REMOVED AND INSPECTED FOR MOLD AND ANY RUST THAT MAY HAVE FORMED, OR ANY DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS DONE AND NOTHING ELSE WAS WRONG, I SUPPOSE ONLY TIME WILL TELL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 40 TO 50 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE DURING A TEST DRIVE; HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE RELATED TO THE FRAME ASSEMBLY. THE ZONE MANAGER AND THE FIELD ENGINEER FROM FORD ALSO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIBRATION OCCURRED AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AT 300 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,600.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS EXAMINING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXTENDED 1.5 INCHES OUTSIDE THE NORMAL PLACEMENT FOR THE TIRE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRAME WAS BENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED FOR THE FAILURE AND THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 3,000. WHEN ADJUSTED ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL, HEAD RESTS FORCE THE HEAD TOWARDS THE CHIN AND ARE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS THE NEW SAFETY DESIGN. HEADRESTS ARE NON ADJUSTABLE. ALSO, THEY ARE VERY WIDE AND, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FRAME POST AT THE REAR OF THE DOORS, CREATE A BLIND SPOT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PICKUP. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. DURING RAINY CONDITIONS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE PREVENTS THE DRIVER FROM VIEWING THE SPEEDOMETER. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WOULD ONLY ILLUMINATE AT A SPECIFIC RANGE OF DARKNESS OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE ADJUSTED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 600.
