The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 70 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to 1st gear, and the service vehicle soon warning light soon illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle, and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the mechatronic unit was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,587.

The contact stated that after exiting a store and entering the vehicle, the contact secured the seat belt, depressed the brake pedal, and shifted into reverse(R), and the vehicle unintendedly accelerated across the parking lot. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was not depressed during the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle came to a stop after crashing into a guard rail, stopping the vehicle from driving into a pond. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained, and medical attention was not needed. There was no Police report filed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. am concerned the 6r80 transmission has had problems with the lead frame.it has been acting up where causes not to go in traffic. Seen that my truck has numerous tsb & recalls for this trans.made at the Dearborn plant for f150 oct.11 2011 through feb 27 2012.see the multiple technical service bulletins for 6r80 16n02,19s07, nhsta 16v248000 & safety recall 16s19 powertrain control module programming. I believe this should also be also extended to cover my transmission.it is a safety issue also.

The contact stated that the vehicle felt like the rear end was being snatched. The driver pulled over to the median and the wrench symbol was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power. The contact shifted to neutral or reversed and the vehicle to work as designed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times however, the transmission had seized in first gear. The vehicle was towed to two transmission specialists, who were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the contact was informed that there were no open recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train). On April 25th, 2024 on Interstate 75 in Findlay, OH my truck had the back end lock up briefly and started to hop and fish tail. The engine RPM's went way up and the Service Light came on in the truck and the ignition was shut off (automatically and not by the key) truck had electrical power but engine was no longer running and the truck coasted to a stop on the side of the highway. I had the truck towed back to my house and I went to check for codes with my snap-on computer and no codes were present. I started the truck up and no issues were noticed. I took the vehicle to a local repair shop for further investigation. The rear differential was drained as was the transmission oil. Also the brakes were inspected. The mechanic didn't find anything that could explain the issue. He saw a rear brake pad that wasn't moving as freely as it should but explained that didn't sound like that's what the issue was. Nothing abnormal was noticed in the differential fluid or transmission fluid either. I know that Fords are having issues with the transmission shifting into first gear on its own and am wondering if that is the true issue. That is the only thing that explains what happened that day. The truck is currently running ok. I talked to the Ford dealership today and they said that they would have to confirm that that is what is happening, but it sounds highly likely that that is what happened and since the truck is currently not covered under the current recall the bill would be around $3400. I am filing this so that they and you are aware that it is possible that it is happening to the 2010 model years as well.

Jan 4, 2024 Crash

The vehicle was placed in 4 wheel drive (high range) and operated normally. Stopped the vehicle and placed it back into 2 wheel drive (indicated on dashboard as in 2 wheel drive). Placed transmission setting into "Park" but did not apply emergency brake. Turned off engine and exited vehicle. Vehicle proceeded to roll backwards down a slight hill until it crashed into tree (damage was limited to body panel). In summary, although the transmission was in park, it acted like it was in neutral. After several attempts of placing the vehicle in and out of 4 wheel drive, it did reestablish the Park mechanism. I have been able to recreate the situation with it continuing to fail.

The contact was advised to contact the local dealer. The dealer was contacted and stated that there were no recalls under the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. DRIVING MY 2010 FORD F150 AND IT DOWNSHIFT DRIVING AT AROUND 35 TO 40 ON A CITY STREET. I STOPPED AND SHUT THE TRUCK OFF. UPON TURNING IT BACK ON I HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL AND THE WRENCH LIGHT THAT PUT THE TRUCK IN SAFE MODE. ALSO THE MILEAGE WOULD FLASH ---- INSTEAD OF NUMBERS. I TOOK IT TO MIDWEST SUPERSTORE IN HUTCHINSON, KS AND THEY FOUND CODES P0720 & P0722 WHICH LEAD TO THE DIAGNOSIS BEING THE LEAD FRAME NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE LEADFRAME AND VALUE BODY ARE ONE PIECE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACE TOGETHER. I FOUND THAT 2011-2013 FORD F150 HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND A RECALL 19S07 FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INFORMED THEM THAT MY TRUCK IS DOING THE SAME EXACT THING AND THEY WILL NOT HELP DUE TO NO RECALL FOR THIS YEAR. CASE NUMBER [XXX]. THE TRUCK WHEN STOPPING HAS WHAT IS CALLED A SLIP BUMP STOP. UPON TAKING OFF IF NOT FULLY STOPPED (LIGHT CHANGES) THE TRUCK DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR TO GO INTO. WHEN IT DOES THIS, THE TRANSMISSION FORCES IT INTO A GEAR. WHEN IT DOES THIS, IT CHIRPS THE TIRES AND SLAMS THE TRANSMISSION HARD ALMOST LIKE A TRANSMISSION MOUNT IS BAD. MOUNTS ARE STILL GOOD. HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACED WHICH WAS RECOMMENDED BY MECHANIC AND SAID IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT. $160 WASTED. IT DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE TIME BUT AFTER THE TRUCK WARMS UP. THE SLIP BUMP STOP WHICH JERKS THE TRUCK FORWARD WHEN STOPPING ONLY HAPPENS WHILE IN GEAR. HOWEVER CAN PUT IN NEUTRAL AND STOP WITH NO PROBLEM. I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE FULL CAUSE IS. EVERY MECHANIC HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION BUT THAT GETS VERY COSTLY. THE SLIP BUMP STOP HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH FORD FOR MANY YEARS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED. I KNOW THIS TRUCK IS USED AND HAS HIGH MILES SO I CAN'T GET IT FIXED BUT IT SHOULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN FOR FORD AS THE TRUCKS LUNGE FORWARD WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP. *TR

ALSO WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE AT AN ACCELERATED SPEED ON A HIGHWAY SUCH AS 55-70 THE VEHICLE BEINGS TO SHAKE MORE SO THE TRANSMISSION AREA AS THOUGH THE GEARS ARE NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY, AND AS THIS OCCURS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON.

THE NORMAL CAMSHAFT PHASER ISSUES ARE OCCURRING. LOUD KNOCKING, VIBRATING WHILE IDLING, AND GENERAL RATTLING FROM THE MOTOR WHEN THE TRUCK ISN'T ABOVE 1000 RPM'S. WHILE THIS MAY NOT DIRECTLY CAUSE ACCIDENTS, IN INTENSE RATTLING AND KNOCKING CAN CAUSE OTHER ISSUES TO ARISE WHICH IN TURN CAN CAUSE MAJOR SAFETY CONCERNS FOR THE NHTSA. IF FORD DOESN'T DECIDE TO TAKE ON THIS ISSUE AND REPAIR IT, THEN IT CAN BE EXPECTED THAT EVERY 3 VALVE FORD MOTOR MADE SINCE 2005 WILL EVENTUALLY SUCCUMB TO THESE MAJOR ISSUES. AS WE ALL KNOW FORD HAS HAD ISSUES DESIGNING MOTORS IN THE PAST, PRIMARILY THE 6.0, 6.4 AND 5.4 MOTOR THAT I CURRENTLY OWN, BUT IT IS TIME FOR FORD TO STEP UP AND HANDLE THE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS THAT THEIR DESIGNERS NEGLIGENCE CAUSED. IT IS NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK THAT AN AUTO MANUFACTURER STANDS BY THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIRS OR REPLACES THE FAULTY PART WHEN THE TIME COMES. ADDITIONALLY IN THE PART YOU WHEREIN YOU ASKED FOR THE DATE OF THE INCIDENT, I WILL PUT THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ISSUE IS REOCCURRING AND YOU SHOULD EXPECT KNOCKING AND VIBRATION EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE.

THE TWO DRIVESHAFTS THAT CONNECT TOGETHER WITH THE CENTER BOOT BROKE APART WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS ONLY TRAVELING 3 MILES AN HOUR. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED, EITHER HAVE A ONE PIECE DRIVE SHAFT OR THE SLEEVE SHOULD BE BETTER SECURED. I FEEL THAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, MY FAMILY AND OTHERS COULD HAVE BEEN IN SERIOUS DANGER

I'VE NOTICED THAT MANY RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THE FORD F-150 MODELS STARTING IN 2011-2014. WITH MY VEHICLE BEING PRODUCED MID YEAR OF 2010. I FEEL MY VEHICLE IS PART OF THAT RECALL. BUT DOESN'T SHOW IN ANY SYSTEMS. MY VEHICLE WILL STAY STUCK IN A CERTAIN GEAR OR NOT START AT ALL. I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGH WAY AND THE VEHICLE WILL SHIFT DOWN TO FIRST GEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN DRIVE WHILE GOING 60MPH. MY 2010 4.6 2WD SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH ON THE STREET. I'VE CHANGED SO MANY THINGS AND NOW JUST ORDERED THOTTLE BODY YO SEE IF IT HELPS. NO ONE CAN DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I LOSE POWER STEERING AND ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY FORD BECAUSE IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE ACCIDENTS WITH MY KIDS INSIDE. THE ACCELERATOR NEEDED TO BE PRESS FAR DOWN FOR THE TRUCK TO MOVE IN REVERSE. TRANSMISSION OR TORQUE CONVERTER CAUSES THE TRUCK TO SHAKES AND SHUDDER. IT ALSO DOWN SHIFTS AND IS A KICKING FEELING. AT TIMES FEELING LIKE SOMEONE HAS REAR ENDED YA. THROWS HEAD BACK IT'S SO VIOLENT. THE SHAKING AND SHUDDERING TYPICALLY STARTS AT AROUND 38-54 MPH. THEN FOR NO REASON AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS UP TO 80 MPH. ANYTIME THERE IS A UPHILL GRADE IT CONSTANTLY DOWNSHIFTS AND SHAKES EVEN MORE. THE SHUDDERS ARE SO VIOLENT THE MIRRORS CAN'T BE USED TO SEE ANYTHING. I CAN FEEL IT IN MY TEETH. THIS HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY. HAVE TAKEN IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS NEW. EVEN WHEN TALKING ON BLUETOOTH PHONE- OTHERS HAVE SAID THEY COULD HEAR IT OVER THE PHONE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSTICALLY CHECKED AND INSPECTED AT A FORD SERVICE CENTER. THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL FAILURE TO REPAIR. THE TRUCK CURRENTLY OPERATES IN THE SAME MANNER AS IT DID PRIOR TO THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING. IN MY OPINION, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS THE SAME FAILURE MODE THAT FORD FIXED UNDER RECALL 16S19. THIS DESIGN FLAW IS EXTREMELY LIFE THREATENING AND HAZARDOUS. I HAVE PARKED MY VEHICLE. I CONTACTED FORD 4 TIMES AND EVEN THOUGH THAT 1 INDIVIDUAL FROM FORD DID INDICATE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS INDEED AFFECTED BY THE DESIGN FLAW ASSOCIATED WITH THE 16S19 RECALL, IT WAS NOT ON THE "LIST" OF VEHICLES TO BE RECALLED SO IT WILL NOT BE FIXED DUE TO A VIN NUMBER SELECTION METHODOLOGY THAT HE DIDN'T DISCLOSE. I HAVE NO WAY TO FIX THE VEHICLE. THE REASON IS BECAUSE NEW SOFTWARE MUST BE FLASHED ON THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE DESIGN FLAW AND I HAVE NO WAY TO KNOW IF THE NEW SOFTWARE ON THE PCM THAT WAS DEVELOPED FOR F150S THROUGH YEARS 2011 - 2013 IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE 2010 F150S AND FORD WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TALK TO ANY TECHNICAL REPS TO DETERMINE IF THAT IS POSSIBLE. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE TECHNICIANS CANNOT DETERMINE SYSTEM SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY EITHER AND ARE EXTREMELY RISK ADVERSE TO DOING ANYTHING THAT WAS NOT APPROVED BY FORD CONSIDERING THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE AND OTHERS LIKE IT ARE JUST TICKING TIME BOMBS ON THE HIGHWAY. MINE WILL BE PARKED UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE BY NHTSA OR FORD.

IN ADDITION TO THE 2013 FORD F150 TRANSMISSION RECALL, I HAVE A 2010 F150 THAT HAD THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHERE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TO FIRST GEAR AT SPEED. I WAS GOING 70 MPH WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER ON A VIRGINIA INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN MINE DROPPED FROM 6TH TO 1ST GEAR IN AUGUST 2011. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND SAFELY GET IT OFF THE ROAD, BUT THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON LONGER THAN THE CURRENT RECALL REPORTS. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD ADDRESS, SINCE MY TRANSMISSION STILL HAS A HARD SHIFT FROM TIME TO TIME, SO I DON'T FEEL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE MEGATRONICS UNIT (TWICE), AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER, BUT IT IS STILL THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE TRAIN WHICH I STILL FEEL IS NOT 100% FIXED. I SEE NOW THAT THE RECALL MIGHT BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE 2011 AND 2012 F150S, BUT I FEEL IT SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THOSE 2010 MODELS TOO, SINCE I HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY 2010 F150.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY (I-10 IN PHX) AT ROUGHLY 70 MPH DURING RUSH HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE TRUCK LURCHED AS IF I HAD JUST DRIVEN THROUGH A DEEP PUDDLE. A FEW SECONDS LATER AS I WAS LOOKING IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE TRUCK BEGAN SKIDDING UNCONTROLLABLY; THERE WERE 3 TO 4 DISTINCT SKIDS LASTING APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 2 SECONDS AT A TIME AS I RECALL. LUCKILY FOR ME THE SEMI-DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS PAYING PROPER ATTENTION TO THE ROAD AND NOTICED ME SKIDDING TO A HALT DESPITE THE ABSENCE OF BREAK LIGHTS. HE SWERVED AND NARROWLY MISSED REAR-ENDING MY VEHICLE AT FULL HIGHWAY SPEED. AFTER THE SEMI PASSED I BEGAN TO LIMP OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 25 MPH AT THIS POINT, AND I RECALL A FEW MORE JERKY UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS WHILE PULLING OVER. BY THE TIME MY TRUCK WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY THE DASHBOARD WRENCH INDICATOR WAS ON AND PRESSING THE GAS PEDDLE HAD NO EFFECT. THE TRUCK HAD DISCONNECTED THE THROTTLE SENSOR INPUT FROM THE FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER WEIGHING MY OPTIONS FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES I DECIDED TO TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND BACK ON. UPON DOING SO THE WRENCH INDICATOR WAS GONE, AND THE TRUCK APPEARED TO WORK NORMALLY. SINCE THEN I HAVE DRIVEN THE TRUCK (CAUTIOUSLY AND ON HIGH ALERT) ANOTHER 1,500 MILES AND EVERYTHING HAS PERFORMED NOMINALLY. I HAVE HAD NO OTHER SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THIS ONE, NOR HAVE I NOTICED ANYTHING OUT OF THE NORM PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT SIMILAR SPEEDS FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE BOTH DRY AND VERY SMOOTH AND THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS LOW 80S AT THE TIME. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS AND AFTER A FULL DIAGNOSIS THEY HAVE NO CLEAR EXPLANATION OR FIX FOR THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL MALFUNCTION.

THE DEALER SAID THAT THE CURRENT REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS THE TRUCK IS PASSED ITS 60K POWER TRAIN WARRANTY THAT PREVIOUS REPAIR COMPLETED BACK ON FEB 2015 (COMPLETED UNDER WARRANTY AS THE TRUCK HAD 57K MILES AT THE TIME). EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE TO DO THE SAME THING AS BACK IN FEB 2015 WHERE THEY HAVE TO BRING THE TRANSMISSION DOWN AND RE-SEAL IT IN ADDITION TO THE NEW REPAIR OF THE TRANSMISSION BULKHEAD CONNECTOR SLEEVE. TOOK TRUCK BY TOW TRUCK TO TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY FOUND TRANSMISSION HAD SHIFTED FROM 6TH GEAR TO 1ST GEAR CAUSING THE PROBLEM. TRANSMISSION WAS INTACT. CALLED FORD DEALER I BOUGHT FROM THEY SAID THEY WOULD RESEARCH SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP I APPLIED BRAKES AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AT WHICH TIME I NOTICED A ORANGE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I PUT THE VEHICLE BACK IN PARK, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND CALLED A WRECKER SERVICE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. MY F 150 HAD APPROXIMATELY 53,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER WHEN THIS OCCURRED. HADTHIS OCCURRD A FEW MINUTES LATER I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN POTENTIAL FOR THIS CAUSING A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT. I HAVE NOT USED THIS VEHICLE TO PULL TRAILERS OR CARRY ANY HEAVY LOADS SINCE NEW. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY TRANSMISSION, BRAKE OR OTHER POWER TRAIN ISSUES SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE NEW.

NO BRAKING SYSTEM PROBLEMS, AND NO REAR END DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEMS WERE FOUND. THE TRUCK WAS DRIVABLE AFTER THE ACCIDENT. IF THE TRUCK HAD ROLLED OR STRUCK AN OBSTACLE, FATALITIES COULD HAVE RESULTED.

THE TRUCK WAS PARKED FACING DOWN ON A MODERATE HILL. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS STARTED AND THE SHIFT LEVER MOVED FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION REMAINED LOCKED UP (STILL IN PARK) AND THE VISUAL GEAR SELECTOR INDICATOR DID NOT ILLUMINATE SHOWING ANY GEAR SELECTED. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE SHIFT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED IN THE GEAR SELECTED. APPLYING GAS DURING THE "PAUSE SHIFT" PERIOD RESULTED IN A RAPID AND UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION WHEN THE SHIFT OCCURRED AND THIS RESULTED IN A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT. AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE TRUCK WAS EXAMINED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULATOR (TCM) WAS REPROGRAMMED.

I HAD THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS FOR A STALLING ISSUE. TO ME IT FELT AS IF THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS STAYING LOCKED UP STALLING THE ENGINE. BOTH DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE NEW IN 2010. NOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED 3K MILES OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY FORD WILL NOT DO A THING TO HELP BUT OFFER A LITTLE MONEY TOWARDS A 4600$ REPAIR. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF I WAS NOT A TECHNICIAN FOR OVER 15YRS AND A TECHLINE ADVISER FOR ANOTHER CAR COMPANY FOR OVER 7 I MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN WHAT WAS GOING ON. FORD WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND RECTIFY THIS ISSUE AND IS PASSING ON THIS FAILURE TO ME. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPORT IT AND THEY ASKED ME TO START IT AGAIN. IT STARTED FINE AND DID NOT SHOW ANY ERRORS ON THE DISPLAY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME THOUGH AT A REDUCED SPEED AND NOT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. I FIND THAT FORD WOULD SUPPLY A VEHICLE WITH A LIMP MODE THAT WOULD SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO 2ND GEAR LIMP MODE AT ANY SPEED AND NOT SHUT OFF THE CRUISE AT THE SAME TIME. AT THIS TIME I WAS MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH AND I DECIDED TO GO THROUGH THE DITCH AND CAME TO A STOP ON THE FRONTAGE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT THROTTLE UP. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO THROTTLE UP WHICH ALSO FAILED. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AND CRAWLED UNDER THE VEHICLE TO LOOK FOR DAMAGE. AMAZINGLY NO EXTERNAL DAMAGE WAS NOTED. AT THIS TIME I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE AND EVERYTHING WORKED AS IF NOTHING HAD EVER HAPPENED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE AT A SLOW SPEED STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THE SERVICE MANAGER RECOVERED A CODE WHICH HAD BEEN STORED WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. WHEN THE CODE WAS INVESTIGATED THE INSTRUCTIONS DIRECTED THE TECHNICIANS TO REPLACE THE MEGATRONICS VALVE BODY. BEFORE A REPLACEMENT PART COULD BE ORDERED THE SERVICE MANAGER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE MANUFACTURERS TRANSMISSION FACTORY AND WAS DIRECTED NOT TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT PART AND THAT THE FACTORY WOULD SEND THE REPLACEMENT PART AND TO SEND THE DEFECTIVE PART BACK TO THE FACTORY AS SOON AS IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. UPON ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT, MY TRUCK ENTERED INTO A "LIMP HOME" MODE (MECHANIC WRENCH ICON APPEARED) AND BEGAN TO INCORRECTLY REGULATE MY RPMS. THIS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO BECOME NEARLY STRANDED AS I WAS MOVING NO FASTER THAN 10MPH IN A 50MPH ZONE. I WAS LUCKILY ONLY 1/8TH OF A MILE FROM WORK AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE STREET. UPON LEAVING WORK, MY TRUCK WAS ACTING FINE WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS (NOT EVEN THE MECHANIC WRENCH). I THEN PROCEEDED TO DRIVE IT TO AN AUTO PARTS SUPPLIER TO HAVE A FREE DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. NO CODES WERE SAVED OR SHOWED UP. HOWEVER, WHILE DRIVING BACK HOME, IT AGAIN ACTED UP AND ENTERED A LIMP MODE. THIS TIME BOTH "CHECK ENGINE" AND "MECHANIC WRENCH" LIGHTS WERE ON. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE NEAREST DEALER WHO THEN DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. I AM QUOTED $881 TO PERFORM THE REPLACEMENT OF A ~$150 PART...SINCE IT IS A 2010, IT IS OUT OF THE 3YR/36,000 BUMPER TO BUMPER AND FORD DOESN'T CONSIDER THE THROTTLE BODY PART OF THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY (FORD WILL COVER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD THOUGH, A CHUNK OF PLASTIC THAT WON'T BREAK)... FORD HAS APPARENTLY HAD PROBLEMS W/ THEIR DRIVE-BY-WIRE THROTTLE BODIES, AS SEEN THROUGH THEIR "CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03" RECALL. AFTER COMING HOME FROM A WEEK OF BUSINESS TRAVEL, MY NEIGHBOR CAME OVER TO INFORM ME THAT MY 2010 F150 FX4 WITH THE 5.4 V8 AND 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER CHECKING UNDER THE TRUCK I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD FOR THE TRANSMISSION OIL DIP STICK SO I COULD CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL. TO MY SURPRISE, THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION OIL DIP STICK. AFTER LOOKING THRU THE OWNER'S MANUAL, IT STATES THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS A SEALED TRANSMISSION AND DOESN'T NEED ANY OIL EXCEPT IF THERE IS A PROBLEM. WELL OBVIOUSLY IF THERE IS A LEAK, THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THERE IS NO WAY TO ADD FLUID TO PREVENT AN FAILURE ISSUE. I THEN CONTACT A DEALER NEAR MY GEORGIA HOME AND TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A TRANSMISSION BULKHEAD CONNECTOR SEAL LEAK AND IT WOULD COST $600.00 TO REPAIR. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. AFTER LOOKING THRU THE INTERNET, I FOUND THE FORD TSB 11-3-25. FROM MY SEARCH, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ISSUE. SINCE THE TRANSMISSION COULD LEAK UNTIL IT DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH FLUID TO MAKE IT WORK PROPERLY, THUS CAUSING DRIVABILITY ISSUES. I OWN A FORD F150 LARIAT 4X4 WITH A 5.4 ENGINE, 3.55 GEARS AND 38,000 MILES. I WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH USING CRUISE CONTROL AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION AUTOMATICALLY DOWNSHIFTED, WHICH CAUSED THE REAR TIRES TO LOCK UP AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SKID. THE ENGINES RPM'S INCREASED TO AT LEAST 5000 RPM, WHEN I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. WE I PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE ENGINE WENT INTO A LOCKDOWN MODE WITH THE ENGINE AND WRENCH ICONS ILLUMINATING. I LET THE TRUCK SIT FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES AND CALLED THE DEALER FOR A TOW. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP IF POSSIBLE AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A FAULTY COMPUTER (MECHATRONIC) THAT CONTROLS THE TRANSMISSION. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE CONTROLLER IN STOCK AND RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THE UNIT REPLACED IN MY HOME TOWN. SINCE PURCHASE IN 2010, THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUALLY SEARCHES FOR THE RIGHT GEAR, NEVER SEEMS TO FIND IT, AND WILL "BANG" INTO WHATEVER GEAR IT CHOOSES. GALPIN AND SIMI VALLEY FORD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RE-CREATE CONDITION AND SIMPLY SAY IT IS DUE TO THE ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, SIMI VALLEY FORD STATED THE "SPLINE SHAFT" WAS NEVER LUBRICATED AND CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM BY LUBRICATING THE AREA. THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED, PAST THE BASIC 3/36 WARRANTY, AND NOW HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ISSUE IS NOT A "POWERTRAIN" ISSUE AND THEREFORE NOT UNDER THE 5/60 POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY OFFERED TO INSTALL A FORD RECOMMENDED CLAMP AND MORE LUBRICATION FOR A NOMINAL CHARGE. OTHER THAN THE POWERTRAIN ISSUE, THE VEHICLE HAS "STALLED" SEVERAL OCCASIONS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A COMPLAINT WITH VEHICLE DEALERSHIP . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED IN JANUARY 2012, HE STARTED TO HEAR AN INCESSANT HIGH PITCHED SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE SQUEAKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE TAILGATE LATCH ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE DEALER STATED THEY LUBRICATED BOTH SIDES AND WAS ROAD TESTED AND THE NOISE WAS GONE. THE SERVICE REP, THEN GAVE THE CONSUMER A TUBE OF SILICONE THAT WAS USED PRIMARILY FOR BRAKE COMPONENTS AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER, IF THE NOISE RETURNED, LUBRICATE THE TAILGATE LATCH. FOR AWHILE, THERE WAS NO NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS LATER, THE NOISE HAD RETURNED. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THAT THE PREVIOUS DEALER PROVIDED HIM WITH THE WRONG TYPE OF LUBRICANT AND THE DEALER REASSURED HIM THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN RESOLVED. HOWEVER, TWO MONTHS LATER, THE NOISE HAD RETURNED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER AGAIN, WHERE THEY CHOSE TO LUBRICATE THE TAILGATE LATCH ASSEMBLY FOR THE THIRD TIME. FORTUNATELY THE ROAD WAS DRY AND I GAINED CONTROL AND MOVED THE VEHICLE SAFELY OFF THE ROAD, HOWEVER MY CONCERN IS IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THEY ARE 100% SURE THAT THIS WAS THE CAUSE, AND EVEN IF IT IS, HOW DO I KNOW IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE...WITH A WORSE OUTCOME. AFTER ROLLING MORE THAN ONE FOOT DOWN THE HILL, THE ENGINE STALLED SO THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, SHIFTED INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM HAD NOT OCCURRED BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,580.
