The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. After a visual inspection of the exterior of the vehicle, the contact became aware that the rear passenger’s side window had shattered. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILINGSLY FORD 1 (8209 QUANAH PARKER TRAILWAY, LAWTON, OK 73505) WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,500.

1. I AM NOT ALONE IN A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FUEL CANISTER BEING A PROBLEM ON THE F150- I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TWICE NOW- OTHERS IN THE FORUM ARE DOING THE SAME. THE VAPOR CANISTER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BECOMES FAULTY AND THE ENGINES STALL OR RUNS ROUGH- WHEN IT STALLS, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. I GREW UP WITHOUT POWER STEERING- 97$ OUT OF POCKET- DEALER COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT- HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. IT'S A SIMPLE FIX- YET CAN BE DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE WITH STRONG ARM STRENGTH CANNOT TURN THE VEHICLE OR USE THE BREAKS. THIS HAS TO BE LOOKED AT.! I SHOULD HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED! WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED IS INEXCUSABLE- HAPPENED WITH JUST 35K MILES ON TRUCK. 2. SEEMS FORD HAS A MEGA DEFECT WITH BAD DESIGN ON THEIR F150 POWER REAR WINDOWS WITH THE HEAT GRIDS GOING BAD- THIS HAPPENED AT MAYBE THE SAME TIME, AND UNLESS I SPEND 1000 DOLLARS, I HAVE NO REAR-WINDOW DEFOGGING- THIS WAS NEARLY A 50K VEHICLE, AND JUST STARTED TO FALL APART AFTER THE WARRANTY. THIS IS A BAD DESIGN- IF ICE AND ALL IN THE SOUTH, MANY DO NOT HAVE THE PREPARATIONS FOR THIS (I GREW UP IN THE NORTH). I STILL CAN'T DEFROST MY REAR WINDOW), BUT HAVE A SCRAPER 3. HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT- SEEMS, FORD REFUSES TO FIX A BAD DESIGN FOR FAULTY HIGH MOUNT THIRD BRAKE LIGHT- CHEAP GASKET WILL FADE, AND MANY OF USE (MYSELF RECENTLY) HAVE PROBLEMS WITH WATER DRIPPING INSIDE THE CAB- 100 PLUS BUCKS FOR A NEW ONE? CAN'T EVEN BUY THE GASKET?? AND LET'S ADD TO THE FACT THE LIGHTS ARE SO BADLY DESIGNED, THEY COLLECT GRIME/CRAP AND JUST LOOK LIKE YUP. (BIGGEST CONCERN IS RUINING THE INTERIOR WITH WATER- I HAD A LOT OF WET RECENTLY- F150 FORUM IS PLASTERED WITH THESE PROBLEMS. THE FUEL CANISTER MAKING THE VESICLE STALL IS DANGEROUS. AND I FEEL FORD SHOULD ADDRESS THIS. (THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT IMPROVING THE OTHER ISSUES IN 2018. SHAME- NO QUALITY!~

I WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME, THANKFULLY, BECAUSE THE SOUND WAS A LOT LIKE A GUN BLAST AND IF DRIVING I COULD HAVE SWERVED, IT STARTLED ME SO MUCH. THE WINDOW IS SHATTERED INTO THOUSANDS OF PIECES AND VISIBILITY OUT OF THAT WINDOW IS SEVERELY HAMPERED. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON THE WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING. IT WAS 55 DEG OUT, AND I HAD THE REAR DEFROSTER ON BECAUSE THERE WAS CONDENSATION ON THE BACK WINDOW. I HEARD A LOUD POP LIKE A ROCK HAD HIT THE CAR AND LOOKED BACK TO SEE SMOKE AND MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW PANEL SHATTERED. WHEN I LOOKED CLOSER, THE PLASTIC TRIM ON THE CORNER OF THE WINDOW WAS MELTED, AND I COULD SEE BURN MARKS ON THE CORNER OF THE GLASS. IT TURNS OUT IT'S A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2010 MODEL YEAR F-150. I TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER TO CLEAR MY BACK WINDOW OF FROST AND DROVE TO WORK. 5 MIN LATER, AS I PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE BACK GLASS SHATTERED ON THE INSIDE. SMALL PIECES OF GLASS ARE FALLING INTO THE VEHICLE. FORD WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT. FORD IS NOT DENYING THAT IT HAPPENS. THEY JUST ARE NOT ADMITTING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ACTUALLY TOLD ME THAT, ?WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS COLD OUTSIDE AND THEN THE DEFROSTER IS TURNED ON, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE GLASS.? WOW! I THOUGHT THAT IS WHAT THE DEFROSTER WAS FOR??!!??!!!! THEY HAD NO RESPONSE WHEN I BROUGHT THAT TO THEIR ATTENTION. THEY TOLD ME TO CALL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I REMOTELY STARTED MY F150 TO WARM UP THE VEHICLE ON A MORNING THAT THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 37F. WHILE INSIDE THE VEHICLE I HEARD A LOAD BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE GLASS BREAKING. OBSERVED THAT REAR PASSENGER WINDOW SHATTERED APPROX. THREE MINUTES AFTER REAR DEFROSTER SWITCH WAS TURNED ON . INSPECTED GLASS BOTH INSIDE AND OUT AND OBSERVED THAT THE GLASS WAS INTACT BUT THE WHOLE PASSENGER SIDE BACK GLASS WHAT SHATTERED AS WITH SAFETY GLASS WOULD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALER AND THEY HAD SEEN THE PROBLEM BEFORE BUT THERE ADVISED IT WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY OR POLICY. DEALER GAVE ME LOCAL CSR TO CONTACT TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE AND ASK FOR POLICY. GLASS ESTIMATE WAS AROUND $621 FOR PARTS AND 3 HRS OF LABOR. DECLINED REPAIR UNTIL SPEAKING WITH CSR TO ASK FOR CONSIDERATION UNDER POLICY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE IF THE GLASS WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT DURING DRIVER. ONLY THE PASSENGER (FAR RIGHT SIDE) WAS SHATTERED. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO PEOPLE SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT AT THE TIME. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE FORD COMPANY HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD NUMEROUS F150'S HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. FORD REFUSES TO COVER REPAIRS.

2010 FORD F150 SUPERCREW POWER REAR SLIDING WINDOW PASS SIDE ONLY, CRACKING UPON TURNING ON REAR DEFROSTER AFTER A FEW MINUTES. TEMPERATURE 15 DEGREES WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF LEAVING A STORE PARKING LOT AND NOW DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY A FEW MILES I HEARD A LOUD BANG ( MANY OTHERS POSTED SAY IT SOUNDS LIKE A 22 CALIBER SHOT GUN ) I LOOKED AROUND AND SAW THE REAR PASS SLIDING WINDOW SHATTERED BUT STILL INTACT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO USE THE REAR DEFROSTER AS IT WAS SNOWING SLEETING OUTSIDE. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK FOR 2 YEARS AND NEVER HAD TO USE IT. NOW WHEN I GET HOME I DECIDE TO GOOGLE SEARCH THIS AND COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW COMMON THIS IS. TURN OUT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND FORD WILL NOT MAKE IT RIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE VERY LUCKY AND PERSISTENT. THE HEATING ELEMENT GETS SO HOT THAT IT SHATTERS THE GLASS. THEY CLAIM GLASS IS NOT COVERED. ITS NOT THE GLASS, ITS THE HEATING ELEMENT. I CALLED 3 LOCAL DEALERS TODAY AND 2 OF THE THREE SAID THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS BUT FORD WONT OFFER COMPENSATION. I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE INSURANCE AND FILE A CLAIM. I ALSO CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE CENTER AND TOLD THEM WHAT I HAD LEARNED AND IT WAS ALL OVER THE FORD FORUMS AND THE INTERNET. SAME SCENARIO FOR ALL OF US. I AM JUST GLAD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A CHILD IN THE REAR PASS SEAT AND HAD THIS HAPPEN OR HAD THE GLASS SHATTER ALL OVER THE CHILD. STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING. TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER. BEGAN TO SHOVEL THE DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD POP FROM THE TRUCK. I TURNED ON MY REAR DEFROSTER FOR MY POWER SLIDING REAR WINDOW, WHEN I RE-ENTERED THE TRUCK ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER STARTING THE TRUCK, I WAS SITTING THERE FOR A MINUTE AND I HEARD A LOUD POP SOUND, I LOOKED BACK TO SEE THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY REAR 3-PIECE WINDOW SHATTERED AND THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE INSIDE OF THE REAR GLASS AT THE BOTTOM WHERE THE HEATER ELEMENT WAS, THERE WAS NO FIRE JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE. THERE HAD BEEN NO IMPACT TO THE GLASS AND IT HAS BECOME APPARENT TO ME THAT THIS WAS A MALFUNCTION OF THE REAR DEFROSTER ELEMENT OVERHEATING THE GLASS. I GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE AND FOUND SMALL "SLIVER" TYPE SHARDS OF GLASS ON MY SEAT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY A PROBLEM FOR ME BECAUSE HAD MY WIFE NOT HAD OFF TODAY I WOULD HAVE HAD MY 8 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT DIRECTLY UNDER THE WINDOW WHICH WOULD HAVE FOR SURE CAUSED POTENTIALLY SEVERE INJURY. AFTER DOING A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH FOR THIS PROBLEM IT IS OBVIOUS THIS IS A VERY LARGE ISSUE WITH THOUSANDS OF DOCUMENTED CASES OF THE EXACT SAME INCIDENT OCCURRING TO THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW OF THE POWER SLIDING DEFROSTING WINDOW OF 2010 FORD F150'S. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE DEFECT AND I WAS LESS THEN PLEASED WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I HAD STARTED MY TRUCK, TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER , AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE GLASS COMPLETELY SHATTERED. IT APPEARS THAT THERE WAS A SMALL ELECTRICAL FIRE OR SHORTAGE IN THE CORNER OF THE GLASS WHERE THE DEFROSTING MECHANISM ATTACHES TO THE WINDOW GLASS. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON A COLD MORNING AND HAD MY REAR DEFROSTER ON. ABOUT 5 MILES FROM HOME I HEARD A LOUD, GUN SHOT TYPE SOUND AND COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. I THOUGHT IT WAS A BLOWN TIRE BUT WHEN I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR I REALIZED THAT THE BACK PANEL IN MY REAR WINDOW HAD SHATTERED. IT WAS TOTALLY SPIDER-WEBED. REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER/WINDOW ASSEMBLY CONNECTION DEFECTIVE, SHORTS OUT CAUSING FIRE AND GLASS BREAKAGE. I DROPPED OFF MY DAUGHTER AT PRESCHOOL AND FIVE MINUTES LATER I NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DEFROSTER WINDOW BEHIND HER CAR SEAT. I PULLED OVER TO FIND THIS BECOMING A FIRE. IT BEGAN AS SMOKE, THEN SPARK, AND THEN FLAME. FORTUNATELY, I HAD A BOTTLE OF WATER IN MY TRUCK, WHICH I BEGAN TO POUR ON IT TO STOP. IT GOT WORSE WITH THE SPARKS, BUT EVENTUALLY WENT OUT. WHILE TRYING TO DISTINGUISH THE FIRE, THE "EXPLOSION" OCCURRED SHATTERING THE REAR WINDOW. I TOOK THIS TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND BEGAN TO RESEARCH ISSUE. I QUICKLY FOUND SEVERAL FORD FORUMS WHERE OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE ON 2010 F150 FORD TRUCKS. HERE'S A LINK TO ONE THAT HELPS EXPLAIN THE ISSUE CLEARLY. OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE DEFROSTER/WINDOW UNIT CAUSING A VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. BUT THERE WAS NO NEED TO PUSH ISSUE FURTHER DUE TO THEIR FORD DEALER UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE AND COVERING THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE FORD'S PREMIUMCARE EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH SHOULD COVER THIS BUT MY DEALER IS SEEING ONLY AS GLASS BREAKAGE AND REFUSING TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. THERE WOULD BE NO GLASS BREAKAGE IF THE DEFECTIVE ASSEMBLY DIDN'T CAUSE A FIRE, AND IF I DIDN'T HAVE SOMETHING TO PUT OUT THE FIRE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR MORE DAMAGE..WITH COLD WEATHER COMING, AND MORE RECENT INCIDENTS POSTED, THERE WILL BE MORE INSTANCES OF THIS IN THE NEAR FUTURE ON 2010 FORD F150 TRUCKS. WENT OUT AND STARTED MY VEHICLE TO LET IT WARM UP WHILE I WALKED MY DOG FIRST THING IN THE MORNING BEFORE HEADING TO WORK. AFTER RUNNING FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES I WAS READY TO HEAD TO WORK. I OPENED MY DRIVERS DOOR AND ALL THE SUDDEN HEARD A LOUD "POW" VERY LOUD. I LOOKED AROUND AND SAW THE BACK WINDOW HAD EXPLODED THROWING TINY SHARDS OF GLASS ALL OVER. IT COULD HAVE EXPLODED IN A CHILD'S EYES OR MY DOGS. THE WINDOW IS THE REAR ELECTRIC HEATED SLIDING GLASS. THE PASSENGER SIDE IS THE ONE THAT BLEW. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE LADY TOLD ME SHE HAS SEEN SEVERAL OF THEM DO THAT. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING, BECAUSE OF THE LOUD NOISE AND BECAUSE OF THE FLYING GLASS. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT OR THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED WITH GLASS. TRUCK IS BEING REPAIRED, SO I DON'T HAVE THE ACCESS VIN RIGHT NOW. NOW I WILL NOT USE MY DEFROSTER FOR FEAR THE WINDOW WILL BLOW, AND IT ALSO DEFROST MY MIRRORS. THIS WILL RESULT IN LESS VISIBILITY ON COLD OR DAMP DAYS WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE FROZEN OR DEW ON THEM. *TR

UPON ENTERING AND STARTING THE TRUCK THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DID NOT WORK AT ALL IN 4 SEPARATE CASES, THE 5TH OCCURRENCE THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER WORKED BUT NOT THE PASSENGER SIDE. OBVIOUSLY I ONLY USE THE WIPERS IN BAD WEATHER SO WHEN I NEED THEM MOST FOR SAFETY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAVE NOT FUNCTIONED. I HAVE RETURNED THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR EACH TIME AND HAVE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE CASE # 1496470901, I FEEL THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS FURTHER ATTENTION AS I NOW HAVE NO CONFIDENCE AT ALL IN THIS VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW OF THE CREW CAB SHATTERED ONCE THE DEFROSTER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000.

STARTED TRUCK AT 0700 AM, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 50 DEGREES. THE REAR WINDOW WAS FOGGY SO I TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING ALONG A ROAD WITH NO TRAFFIC I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION THAT SOUNDED LIKE A LARGE ROCK HAD LANDED ON THE ROOF OF MY TRUCK. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED MY ROOF AND ALL EXTERIOR PANELS OF THE VEHICLE AND DID NOT NOTICE ANY DAMAGE THAT COULD HAVE JUSTIFIED THE NOISE. I COULD NOT FIND ANY "ROCKS" IN OR AROUND MY VEHICLE...NO PEDESTRIANS WERE IN SITE. RETURNED TO CAB AND AS I WAS PULLING BACK ONTO THE ROADWAY I NOTICED THAT MY REAR WINDOW (RIGHT PANEL) WAS SHATTERED. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP THAT EVENING AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A WARRANTABLE REPAIR. THE GLASS REMAINED INTACT AND THERE WERE NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF A PROJECTILE HITTING THE GLASS (I HAVE PHOTOS). I INSISTED THAT A WARRANTY CLAIM BE OPENED, AND I CONTACTED CUSTOMER RELATIONS. FORD THEN TESTED THE DEFROSTER AND COULD NOT FIND A MALFUNCTION SO THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE FAILURE. I HAVE PHOTOS, A CASE NUMBER, DEALER INVOICE, AND VOICE MAIL RECORDINGS OF THE 3 WEEKS OF HELL TRYING TO GET FORD TO DO THE RIGHT THING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE MOON ROOF WAS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED. THE STRUCTURAL BEAMS WERE CUT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HEAD LINER WAS MODIFIED, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE ROOF TO COLLAPSE. AS A RESULT, THE SIDE AIR BAG TIMING WAS MODIFIED. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THEIR ATTORNEY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 25,000.

SHE DISCONNECTED THE FUSE IN ORDER TO STOP THEM FROM WORKING; HOWEVER, THEY REMAINED ON, AS A RESULT SHE DECIDED TO REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT SHE WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH A REPRESENTATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,655.
