I was driving in the morning car was started to lag on accelerating and shifting gears slightly. My dashboard and gps system flickered on and off when this happened. The truck putted as well. On my way home the car had trouble accelerating and dropped from 5th gear all the way to first causing me to almost lose control of the vehicle. It continued hard shifting and loss all acceleration. It continued flickering everytime it would sputter and slip gears, Gps and dashboard would flicker. They gears were going haywire. I could not accelerate with the pedal all the way to the floor, and was hard to turn steering wheel. Almost like the Truck was coasting. When we took it to the mechanic they stated it was a transmission range switch which is an issue and many F150's of my year, make and model. My vehicle was not listed as a recalled vehicle yet has the same issue as the other recalled ones. Total repairs are going to cost around $2000. I have not driven my vehicle since the incident and I am frightened after almost losing control from the hard shifting. Prior to this the vehicle ran great. It was an out of nowhere issue. the truck has been maintained well, with all oil changes, and regular maintenece. there is less the 96,000 mile son the truck as well.

Hard downshifts from 5 to 4. At low speeds, like parking lots it shifts hard from 1 to 2. At freeway speeds while attempting to pass instead of dropping a gear to passs it downshifts to 1st, rpm’s shoot up and it results in having to pull off stop and place in park. Once in park back to D and able to take off. At any speed from 30 mph or more there is a sort of “tap of brakes” feeling every .15 of a mile.

When driving on the interstate with the normal flow of traffic at 55mph, the vehicle abruptly downshifted from 6th gear to 1st gear causing the the vehicle to lock up an nearly caused an accident. This was followed by a a mechanic warning light and the speedometer to lock out and no longer work. Once pulled over, the vehicle was powered down. When the vehicle was turned back on operation returned in a limp state.

While driving at about 50 MPH truck suddenly down shifted to 1st gear locked up rear wheels and sent engine into a roar. Instrument panel not showing speed or any information. Had transmission shop trouble shoot and determined frame rail failure. replaced frame rail and serviced.

At highway speeds speedometer started occasionally dropping to zero while actually going 55-65 mph. Then it became quite frequent AND the truck started spontaneous downshifting causing the rear wheels to break loose and the rear of truck to fishtail. It was terrifying.

Transmission downshifted to 1st gear causing the rear wheel to lock momentarily while driving 40mph on the highway and then shifted back to 5th gear. Transmission will occasionally stay on 3rd or 5th gear when at a complete stop. Dealership refuses to remedy recall issue for my truck. I have complained multiple times.

While operating vehicle at highway speeds the speedometer suddenly drops to zero and the transmission downshifts to first gear without warning. Apparently a failure of the transmission speed sensor. (?) A driver unaware of this issue that continues to drive results in excessive heat and pressure developing in the differential..A recall has been issued by NHTSA but Ford and the local dealer refused to address the problem because my VIN was not included in the recall.

Ford has a "safety compliance" which has an expiration date of 10 years or 150,000 whichever was first. How is that even allowed? A major issue with the transmission range sensor which doesn't show a driver what gear there in...the lights all disappear so driver doesn't know if there in P, R, D, N, etc...its extremely dangerous! It also forces my truck to go into limp mode which is very dangerous especially when driving down a highway at 55. The truck was "reprogrammed" a few years back to stop the sudden downshift issue from occurring but it didn't eliminate that problem. Do you know how scary it is to be driving down the highway at 55-60 WITH YOUR TODDLER IN THE BACK...and then your truck suddenly on its own shifts down to 1st gear and there's nothing driver csn do but hope they don't hit or get hit by another vehicle?? These are just a few major issues I've had with the truck since buying it 5 years ago. I've barely drove rhe thing since the sudden downshift occurred and could have killed my son and I. The back window quit working. The transmission seems to have alot of issues and I was told because I am past 10 years..yet still under the 150,000 miles id have to pay full price for the backordered part through Ford only which was quoted at $470.00 and that doesn't include any labor. Ford is letting people down majorly. I wish I never bought the truck because it was so exciting to finally have a nice vehicle only to be let down in numerous areas. I drive my 1989 suburban more than my truck due to safety issues and because I am not going to spend thousands on it for an issue that they know has been a major problem for so many customers but yet it wasnt ever an official recall. Total BS!! I can't even believe they can get away with such issues. It's appalling and I'm beyond disappointed with my basically useless truck.

At 45 mph the gear downshifted causing back tires to skid. Then gear illumination disappeared and wouldn't go into gear(while trying to leave a steep boat ramp) very scary!

A recall was issued for an intermittent failure of the transmission speed sensor (OSS), campaign 16S19. I took the truck to a Ford Dealership, Mike Reichenbach Ford, in Florence SC. The technician reprogrammed the PCM. This did not resolve the issue and the truck continues to downshift or not shift at all. I spoke with the dealership and with the Ford Motor Company. I believe this truck was taken to a dealership more than once without the issue being resolved. I am respectfully request Ford make good on the safety recall of a known issue.

Purchased TRUCK at Gus Machado of Kendal Mia Fl. Informed dealership of downshifting transmission issues, I was told "there's No recall on my vehicle ", its normal that new truck has as breaking in period. AT 10,000 miles- Drove to Gus dealership for TRANSMISSION ISSUES, NO RESOLVE -AT 70,679 miles - 01/11/17 Drove AGAIN to Gus dealership, for severe engine and transmission issues. Dealership noted severe engine problems. Insurance.& warranty rep. and Ford rep. arrived at dealership and AGREED that ORIGINAL engine was BAD. Insurance would cover repair cost & Engine was replaced. R/O [XXX]-AT 71,429 miles 04/18/17, Drove to Gus Dealership noted my Transmission concerns, found driveshaft to be slipping and issues addressed. Transmission continues to date to be problematic. I researched ford forums and found that several ford owners also have similar Transmission Issues and FORD has recalls on Transmission, ONLY MY VIN ISN'T ON recall R/O [XXX]- 93,868 miles 05/28/19 Drove to Bill Jarrett FOR RECALL 19N01, In less than 15 minutes truck was returned INFORMED COMPUTER had to be reprogrammed. 11/19 I returned to Miami for surgery &treatment at the Miami VA. Truck continued to downshift, so I went into Gus dealership and they explained the recall fix. I was told there are no recall on transmission and eventually Transmission would streamline. AT 156,000 miles- Since reprograming truck has been double downshifting/bucking in first gear, which I have been stating to Ford dealership since purchase IS A SAFETY CONCERN. To date NO LIGHTS ON DASH DISPLAYS OF Transmission, but BUCKING/DOWNSHIFTING CONTINUES (A SAFTY CONCERN). 05/17/24, I called Ford and stated my concerns. I was told to go into dealership to have it checked. 05/18/24 went to Bill Jarrett where my concerns was noted. They Informed that there is NO RECALL on my truck and I would have to purchase a new transmission for$ 7,000.00. My truck is doing exactly what the recall on all the others. Check engine light on for input shaft speed sensor. Speed odometer quit working then engine light came on for speed sensor. Now when you drive on highway it will be fine then all of a sudden throw a wrench light and truck goes into limp mode and barely moves. You stop turn it off it resets but still isn’t right it doesn’t seem to shift at proper times seems to be shifting to often.

Was in 6th gear(on a 6speed transmission) and immediately my truck downshifted to 1st gear causing my back tires to lock up and almost crash into a median. This is due to a CSP that Ford no longer offers to fix because it "expired".

The lead frame on my truck was experiencing issues. The truck would intermittently randomly downshift at high speeds or get stuck in one gear. I was going 65+ mph on the freeway and and my truck shifted to second gear with no warning causing me to swerve and slam on the brakes. Other times my truck did it on surface streets. There were no warning lights or anything to let me know it would happen. After it downshifted, the wrench popped up on the dash, my speedometer went to 0, and my odometer read blank. Forcing me to pull over, restart the truck, in order to get it out of limp mode to be able to make it home. I took my truck to Ford of Valencia California where they inspected the truck and confirmed it was the lead frame. The issue was that at the time the part was on an 8 month back order so my only option was to replace the entire Valve body instead of only the lead frame. My truck was no longer under the recall and I was forced to pay for this out of pocket less than a month of purchasing the truck from a used dealership. My truck was only inspected by Ford of Valencia and no other agencies. Since this truck was my only form on transportation, I could not wait the 8 months for the lead frame to come in and had to pay out of pocket for the new valve body.

Ford 150 2011 has had acceleration issues for the last 2 years. I heard there was a recall on this model of truck with the Eco boost but mine was not on the list but I am now having issues and mechanics are having a difficult time figuring out what has been happening. Code light doesn't specify a problem.

Truck took off with out me touching the gas in a parking lot had to hit the brakes several times then shifted hard and speedometer quit work and the wrench symbol popped up on the dash and it throw code PO720 which is the output shaft speed sensor /lead frame

The vacuum pump recall was replaced in 2016 and it’s bad again. I have the emissions warranty with ford I am 6 owner the other 5 owners were resale so I get the one time lifetime emission warranty. the truck is doing all kinds of crazy stuff

This vehicle has an automatic transmission. It will not shift out of first gear in the drive setting and the speedometer registers 0 mph when moving in first gear. If I shift to the manual setting, I can shift up. I did not notice if the speedometer registered my speed at that point.

Truck transmission shifted into 1st dear from 4th while driving on a large 4-lane road in the middle of traffic while i was going approx 35 mph. When the downshift happened the tired locked up and the rear end slid sideways. I was able to regain control; however, as I stepped on the accellerator, the truck bogged down for a few seconds before reving to high RPMs and shifting roughly and then went into a mode that only allowed the truck to move between 3rd and 5th gears.

Driving down the expressway yesterday doing approximately 72 miles per hour and the vehicle does a HARD SLAM down to first gear and picks right back up to 6th. Now my concern is not only for the lead frame issue, but my transmission is being damaged every time this continues to happen. Since Ford was not able to even LOOK at my car until June 2023 (Its currently APril 28, 2023), I elected to take to a reputable 3rd party repair shop. At which I was told that the parts on are order and on an "undetermined time" for receiving and Im stuck driving my vehicle with these issues, that ford is aware of, that are becoming a bigger safety issue each time I drive it. Disappointing to say the least. Ford cant build quality trucks. They dont own up to their known safety issues. They cant even schedule to see them in a reasonable timeframe. They dont have adequate parts available. And us consumers are stuck footing the bill and inconvenience. Do better Ford. We are all disappointed.

Driving down the expressway, doing around 70 mph and the vehicle randomly jumps to first gear and brings the vehicle to a near halt in less than one second. It happened during rainy conditions and luckily there were no vehicles nearby or I may have struck one of them. At least once per day the vehicle does this at some capacity. No service lights or check engine lights are present.

My truck has been shifting hard..or taking a very long time to shift into gear. When I put the truck into reverse it doesn't indicate/light up the R-reverse light on dashboard which is dangerous not knowing what gear the truck is actually in..after quite some time it will slam or thud hard into reverse but still doesn't illuminate on the dash...then when switching into drive it slams very hard into gear. My acceleration has also been acting up and does not accelerate normal anymore. It's very sluggish and slow to get going which is very dangerous sometimes when entering a highway. I've also been going 40-50 mph and suddenly I lose power and my truck slows down and I have no control over it..hitting the gas only revs engine but does nothing. My reverse lights don't work sometimes either and my rear window has also quit working. I have contacted the locao ford dealer about these issues and the person was not only rude but was without doubt trying to rush me off the phone and told me they were booked up for many weeks and it'd be awhile before I could get the truck looked at...I bought thus truck in November 2019 and had taken it in for a recall that they had to do a quick reprogramming...come to find out there was also at the time a safety recall which "expired'" at 10 years or 150000 miles which is IMO total nonsense and unprofessional of Ford to not make this a real recall that they are required to fix knowing the many issues thousands of vehicles are having due to there negligence when they were built. It's not right to have there customers pay thousands out of there pockets to replace parts that are known to quit working properly and cause many safety issues for people driving the faulty vehicles. We are already paying monthly payments and the only thing the expired safety compliance/ not actual recall is doing for Ford is making them lose loyal customers. I truly worry about the unsafe occurrences that may happen with my child in my truck now and it's not right

While driving, the transmission will randomly down shift into 1st gear and the speedometer will die. The truck flashes a “wrench” icon. There is no pattern, the issue is intermittent. When the speedometer dies, the transmission will only shift in “manual” mode, but will not shift above 3rd gear. The check engine light illuminates and throws codes P0720 and P0722. This indicates an output speed shaft sensor failure. Ford released a Customer Satisfaction Program 19N01 for this issue and offers full repairs. However the repairs were only valid if the truck was less than 10 years old or less than 150,000. My truck is now 11 years old (the issue first was present in May 2022) but I only have 73,000 miles. Ford is unwilling to help because I am outside the warranty by a few months. This is a definite safety concern because I’ve been driving on the freeway at 75 MPH in 6th gear only for the transmission to downshift to 1st gear, which causes a violent skid and potential rollover and accident. I live in a severe wintery area, and this issue makes the truck undriveable in the snow and ice. I would like for Ford to run a diagnostic scan, and replace the required components based off their previous CSP. Or, consider this a safety recall and allow me to trade my truck in with no penalties.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 10 MPH, the speedometer failed to properly show the speed after exceeding 10 MPH. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift properly. Additionally, the vehicle was slow to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed the molded lead frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted and referred her to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Lead frame in transmission, causing downshifts in my truck and cruise control and speedometer shut off.I noticed theres a recall for issue but only on some. I'll be driving and all of a sudden wrench pops up and downshifts and dash components quit working and only runs in certain gears.also had to put 2 timing chains in,both at 50000 miles, 3 vacuum pumps for the brake system which both of these were recalled but only for 1 one each item..I work for Ford and try a d support them but just bought vacuum pump 3 weeks ago now this a d pump was 550$ no brakes without it..that also goes out right now. Ty

My vehicle is experiencing the same issues that were identified under recall 16V-248 with the exact same year, make and model vehicle. Several times, while driving at high speeds, the vehicle will display a wrench logo (MIL) and the vehicle will either downshift to 1st gear or completely lose all power to the pedal. After turning the ignition off and back on, for a period of time the vehicle will only move in 1st gear, will not downshift and the speedometer will not move. The check engine light will illuminate for a period of a few days and will without reason turn back off until the downshifting happens again.

Well known 6R80 Transmission Molded Lead Frame defective, causing unexpected and dangerous downshift/loss of power, instrument gauges malfunction and both wrench light and engine light come on. Ford somehow avoided recall to save millions, instead issuing Customer Satisfaction Program 19N01, however replacement part is in short supply and dealerships weren't taking appointments then due to Covid pandemic. Following up recently with Ford dealer since symptoms have worsened, apparently program is now expired and they won't fix. We were nearly rear-ended twice attempting to merge onto freeway, so took it to a reputable local former Ford tech, but he can't obtain the part, which is back ordered everywhere, yet apparently Ford has. Putting everyone on notice and hoping it doesn't take a serious accident/avoidable lawsuit for Ford to do the right thing. Pls advise accordingly. Thank You. Desperate in NV...

The vehicle was being driven with the cruise control set. Upon approaching an intersection on a four lane divided roadway I tapped the brakes to deactivate the cruise control. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal the cruise control did not disengage but the vehicle accelerated instead. I released pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle continued at the cruise control set speed. I again applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle again accelerated. To avoid striking stopped traffic I moved into the right turn lane with the vehicle continuing to accelerate as I attempted to brake the vehicle. Upon entering the intersection my vehicle struck another pickup truck broadside. I believe speed at the point of impact was 60 plus miles per hour. My vehicle then continued on and struck two utility poles. Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair. There appears to be a problem with the speed control system as it would not disengage but caused the vehicle to accelerate. Googling the same problem with other Ford F-150's I found several reports of the exact problem. I ordered the vehicle new and it was maintained by the Ford dealership. There were no known problems. Mileage is 31,900. At this time the vehicle has not been inspected for a cause but is available for inspection. The vehicle is in the towing company lot. This accident could have very easily resulted in fatalities. This accident should have never happened!!!

I was driving with the cruise control engaged set at 60 mph. Approached an intersection with traffic light with traffic stopped in both westbound lanes. Tapped the brake to deactivate the cruise control. The cruise control did not turn off but instead tapping the brake caused the truck to accelerate. Released the brake pressure and reapplied brake pressure. This action again caused the truck to accelerate. To avoid hitting stopped traffic I moved to the right hand turn lane which was free of traffic. The truck continued to accelerate as I applied brake pressure. As my truck entered the intersection a collision occurred with a northbound vehicle. The collision severely damaged my vehicle and the struck vehicle with injuries to myself and the other driver. Crash speed had to be over 60 mph. This was all captured by a traffic camera. My F-150 had 31,900 on the odometer. It has been dealership maintained since new and has no known defects other than this incident. No lights, no warnings. The truck has not been Inspected since the incident. The truck has heavy damage. This incident could have easily caused the deaths of myself and the other driver. Searches online have turned up the same complaints from other F-150 owners. I have photos on my email but can not get them loaded to this form. You need to see them!

11 May 2022: Turned right into four lane traffic and accelerated. Truck refused to shift out of first gear. I had to make the first turn I could to get out of traffic. Turned truck off and re-started engine. Problem was resolved. Wednesday 18 May: Driving west on Hwy 7 at about 65 MPH. Truck lurched slightly and all speed/distance indicators on dash went blank. A single wrench was displayed. Speedometer dropped to Zero MPH.Truck seemed to drive just fine so I limped to a gas station a mile away. There I shut the truck off again and restarted the engine. Engine ran fine but no odometer readings still. Being 15 miles from the next town I decided to continue to drive slow. Shifting was normal and truck ran fine just no speedometer. I Drove straight to the first auto parts store (Advanced Auto) who read the fault code for me. It was something like Failed Speed Transmitter. Driving home that evening the truck seemed fine again. Normal start all displays working no wrench showing. I was driving 55 slowed to 45 for a speed zone. Then coasted to a stop for the red light. When the light turned green I drove. Instead of shifting up the truck stayed in first and even when I lifted my foot from the gas pedal the truck continued to accelerate to over 40 MPH. I Had to apply the brake to stop the acceleration. This was on HWY 7 four lanes of traffic. I had to get pulled off the road and re-start the truck again. The truck is now parked. All quotes I have to 'fix' this are beyond my ability to pay. And no-one (Even the Ford Dealer) will warranty any results other than a new sender unit and not any 'un-forseen' issues later.

The vehicle was turned off and restarted and the contact was able to safely drive the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. Vehicle speedometer stopped working, the total mileage indicator read all dashes “- - - - - -“ and the transmission was shifting to the wrong gear. For example from a stop the truck would immediately be in fifth gear. The yellow wrench indicator came on briefly and then went away. I turned the truck off then on again and the problem went away and I made it home. Today I took the car to get the safety recall completed, and on my way home the car speedometer stopped working again and I was not able to accelerate while I was making a left turn. This left me stranded in the middle of the intersection and I had to restart the car and the problem went away. I asked the dealer if they would look into the lead frame extended warranty and they would not honor the coverage because I am at 155,000 miles and the coverage ends at 150,000 miles and because it is a 10 year coverage but my car was manufactured 10 years and 3 months ago. The recall did not fix my issue and the vehicle is not safe to drive. The issue is however intermittent and I am a college student who must commute 1hour away to attend the university. I don’t feel safe driving the vehicle, there was one point when the car down shifted rapidly and caused my car to jerk to a stop. I was only going 15 miles per hour so it was not too dangerous. Please help. The recall software update is all they were willing to help me with. Although the problem still persists.

Speed sensor stops communicating causing the truck to shift in first gear. This has caused the back wheels to lock up and could cause serious wreck. I need to have this fixed ASAP at no charge. This is a $40,000 truck and should not be having these dangerous issues. I hope this can be taken care of without contacting the news and my attorney

So I went and got the recall done on it the one about the failing pcm and it dropping to first all of a sudden and temporarily losing control of the vehicle. Fortunatley every time this happens ive been going slow but there have been times when ill be going a good 60 something mph and it feels like ive hit a brick wall. so anyway i got the recall done and it was good fro a awhile but now its doing it again and when o called the dealership[ to find out what to do about it. They said I was sol and need to bring it in so they can find out whATS WRONG WOITH IT FEES NOT INCLUDED...

I I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO FORD OF DALTON, GEORGIA BECAUSE THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE PCM AND TRANSMISION THAT WILL SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT IT WOULD COST ME $140 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, AND IF THE PROBLEM WAS THE MOLDED LEAD FRAME IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT COMMUNICATES WITH THE OUTPUT SHAFT SENSOR, THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE RECALL OR WARRANTY. THIS CONTRADICTS WHAT THE RECALL STATES. I SHOULDNT BE CHARGED $140 DOLLARS FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE A RECALL..THIS IS ON A 2011 FORD F-150

AFTER TAPPING THE FLOOR ACCELERATOR THE ENGINE WENT TO FULL THROTTLE AND STAYED THERE. EVEN AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK THE ENGINE REMAINED AT 7000 RPM. OUTSIDE TEMP WAS -2F. VEHICLE HAD BEEN IDLING FOR 7 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE EVENT OCCURRED WHILE PULLING INTO PARK AT 10 MPH. ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR AND BUILDING BUT WAS ABLE TO BRAKE AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. AFTER RUNNING AT FULL THROTTLE IN PARK FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WASH SPRAY STOPPED WORKING A FEW DAYS EARLIER.

THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT RESULTED IN TRANSMISSION HAVING A HARSH DOWNSHIFT TO FIRST GEAR CAUSING VEHICLE TO JERK AND ENGINE REVS UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST INCLUDING A FEW DAYS BEFORE TAKING IT IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIR IN 2019. ( RECALL 19V -075). THIS PROBLEM, ACCORDING TO FORD, IS DUE TO INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR ( PART OF THE MOLDED LEADFRAME IN THE TRANSMISSION). TWO LATEST INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET. HAVE HAD AT LEAST ONE OCCASION ON AN EXPRESSWAY WHERE VEHICLE HAD VERY JERKY TRANSMISSION SHIFT WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL. HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TO FORD AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON TWO OCCASIONS ( SEE ATTACHED INVOICES). THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED AND NO WARNING MESSAGES OR TROUBLE CODES HAVE BEEN FOUND DURING THE REPAIRS. FORD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE ( PROGRAM # 19N01) ON MAY 2019 AND MY VEHICLE STILL QUALIFIES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN THIS WEEK TO REQUEST THEY REPLACE THE MOLDED LEADFRAME SINCE THE PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT. THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE PART BECAUSE THEY SAY NO TROUBLE CODES ARE PRESENT. I HAVE FOUND OTHERS ON FORD FORUMS WHO SAY THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY ALSO HAVE NO TROUBLE CODES STORED EITHER. FORD NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE LACK OF TROUBLE CODES DOES NOT ENSURE THE PROBLEM IS NOT PRESENT. I CONTINUE TO HAVE CONCERNS THAT MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AND OTHERS IS JEOPARDIZED BY FORD NOT AGREEING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND MAKING THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. THEY THEMSELVES SAY IN THE RECALL NOTICE THAT "THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH."

I DIDN'T HAVE THE RECALL PAPER WITH ME SO THEY LOOKED IT UP ON THEIR COMPUTER AND SAID THEY WERE GOING TO REPROGRAM THE SOFTWARE THAT GOES TO A SENSOR IN MY TRANSMISSION. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I THOUGHT THAT THE NEW UPDATE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE PROCESS WAS SUCCESSFUL AND COULD NOT BE REDONE. I READ A COUPLE OF INTERNET BLOGS OF WHERE OTHER OWNERS HAD THE SAME TYPE OF ISSUE. IF THE UPDATE CAUSED OTHER FAULTY PARTS TO BE EXPOSED, I UNDERSTAND. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT LOCK ITS TIRES WHILE IN MOTION, ESPECIALLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE PICTURE THAT IS ATTACHED IS WHEN THE ISSUE FIRST OCCURRED. ABOUT 1 MINUTE AFTER GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, I FELT A LARGE KNOCK IN THE TRANSMISSION, AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED FROM 6TH GEAR INTO 1ST GEAR, ON ITS OWN, WITHOUT WARNING! THIS ACTION CAUSED THE REAR TIRES TO LOCK UP, AND THE TRUCK TEMPORARILY SKID OUT OF CONTROL, AND DROP SPEED TO APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO RETAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND THERE WAS NOT ANYONE NEAR ME, AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A SERIOUS CRASH. ALSO, THANKFULLY, I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, AND I LUCKILY DID NOT HAVE MY 5-YEAR-OLD OR 2-YEAR-OLD IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TO COMPOSE MYSELF, AND RE-EVALUATE THE SITUATION AT HAND. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CODE SCANNED WAS P0016. THE CODE SCANNER STATES IT'S AN ISSUE WITH THE TIMING CHAIN LOOSENING OVER TIME. THE TRUCK HAS A VERY PROMINENT RATTLE SOUND FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS UPON AN INITIAL START UP IN THE COLD WEATHER. THE OTHER DAY I WENT TO PASS SOMEONE, AND LOST POWER IN THE ENGINE AND MY TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST THE CAR. FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AS PEOPLE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND CANADA ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH 2011-2012 FORD F150 WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE. TO ME THIS SEEMS LIKE AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD TAKE CARE OF. SEEMS LIKE AN ENGINEERING FLAW TO ME. THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY, BOGS DOWN, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES EVENTUALLY BECOMING A SOLID ENGINE LIGHT. THIS INVOLVES THE ENGINE SHUDDERING WHEN THERE IS ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS; THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO PASS VEHICLES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HAVE MY SPARK PLUGS AND COILS REPLACED AFTER THE FOLLOWING HAPPENED IN DAMP AND WET WEATHER CONDITIONS. MAKE YEARS SEEM TO INVOLVE 2011-14 ECOBOOST TRUCKS. FROM THOUSANDS OF FORD FORUM POSTS, THE TRUCKS HAVE AN INTERCOOLER CONDENSATION PROBLEM THAT IS CAUSING POOR PERFORMANCE AND SPARK PLUGS/COILS TO FAIL EARLY. WATER AND OIL VAPOR/RESIDUE CONDENSATION IS BEING SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE. PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT UPON THEMSELVES TO FIND A SOLUTION BY DRILLING A 1/16' HOLE IN THE LOW POINT OF THE INTERCOOLER DRIVER'S SIDE TO DRAIN OIL/WATER CONDENSATION/RESIDUE OR INSTALL A $400-$500 OIL CATCH CAN SEPARATOR WHICH FORD SHOULD BE OFFERING TO OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD OWN THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE AN APPROPRIATE FIX LIKE THE OIL CATCH CAN INSTALLATION OR CONFIRM WITH ITS OWNERS THAT IT IS OK TO DRILL A WEEP HOLE IN THE INTERCOOLER. AFTER THAT I TRIED EACH GEAR AND NONE OF THEM WERE WORKING SO I PUT IT INTO PARK AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVE IT SLAMMED INTO GEAR AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. THE DAY BEFORE I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AFTER IT WARMED UP THEN PUT IT INTO PERVERSE AND IT DID NOT GO INTO REVERSE AT ALL OR DRIVE. AS A RESULT I TOOK IT TO MIDAS IN MY TOWN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE CODES AND BEHAVIOR SO THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR IT TO BE FIXED FOR FREE. I DID SO AND I ASKED ABOUT A RECALL AND THEY REPORTED TO ME THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FULL CHARGES THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF BY THE DEALERSHIP AND I AM MISSING WORK AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THIS DELAY AND I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON MY VEHICLE THAT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWN SHIFTED FROM FIFTH GEAR TO FIRST GEAR AND THEN SHIFTED BACK INTO FIFTH GEAR AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SECONDS. LATER THAT DAY, I WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT HAD LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO JERK WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS. THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, THE INFO CENTER DISPLAYED ALL DASHES, THE RPM'S INCREASED AND THE SERVICE ADVANCED TRAC MESSAGE DISPLAYED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I HAD THE CODES FROM THE ENGINE LIGHT READ AND IT CAME UP AS P0720 FAULT. MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING ALL OF THE SIGNS LISTED IN THE RECALL, BUT IS NOT INCLUDED. MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE DEARBORN PLANT WITHIN THE TIME FRAME OF THE RECALL DATES. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY. I HAVE ATTACHED A PDF OF THE RECALL.

I WAS SITTING IN A FAST FOOD LINE WAITING TO PLACE ORDER. THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING AND MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. (I AM A ONE FOOT DRIVER.)THE TRUCK BEGAN TO INCH FORWARD. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. I PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE AND THE REAR WHEELS BEGAN TO SPIN. I SLAMMED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK AND CUT THE ENGINE OFF. I RE-STARTED THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL THE TRUCK OUT OF THE LINE. AFTER RE-STARTING THE ENGINE A COUPLE MORE TIMES I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK HOME. THIS OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 14, 2016. I PARKED THE TRUCK AND CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. HE SAID I NEEDED TO BRING IT IN. I NEEDED TO MOVE THE TRUCK IN THE MEAN TIME AND IT DID IT AGAIN. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP COULDN'T GET THE TRUCK TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM. THEY TALKED TO THE FORD REGIONAL MANAGER AND I WAS TO BRING THE TRUCK BACK WHEN THEY HAD A SERVICE REP AVAILABLE TO FULLY CHECK IT OUT. I CHOSE TO LEAVE THE TRUCK AT THE DEALERSHIP RATHER THAN RISK DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS, SAID THEY DROVE IT 273 MILES AND COULDN'T GET THE PROBLEM TO REPEAT. AND IF THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM THEY COULDN'T HELP. THE FORD REGIONAL MANAGER SAID THE SAME THING. I HAVE A LOT MORE NOTES BUT THEY PRETTY MUCH SAY THE SAME THING. CAN YOU HELP ME? THIS WOULD ONLY HAPPEN ON A FEW OCCASIONS NOW IT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. WHILE CROSSING A MAJOR INTERSECTION THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. THE ENGINE AND THE ELECTRICITY STAYED ON HOWEVER RPM'S DROPPED TO LESS THAN 1000 AND IT JUST ROLLED TO A STOP. LUCKILY I HAD TAKEN A HALF DAY VACATION AND WAS NOT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. STILL OTHER CARS HAD TO SWERVE TO KEEP FROM BEING HIT. THE DEARLERSHIP WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, AND REPLACED A MOULDED PLASTIC MODULE MADE BY CONTINENTAL THAT I THINK CONTAINED THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR. SO IT APPEARS THAT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL IS LOST, THE FAILURE MODE IS TO DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST GEAR NO MATTER THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE.

WE HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, BUT EVERYONE WAS FREAKED OUT. WE CALLED BIRTHDAY PARTY DESTINATION TO TELL THEM WE HAVE VEHICLE TROUBLE AND CAN'T MAKE IT. DROVE IT DOWN HILL ALL THE WHILE WORRIED THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO BLOW. DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THEY HAD NO CLUE AND DID NOT WANT US TO LEAVE IT THERE. SAID SET UP APPT. 7-10 DAYS OUT. PARKED IT UNTIL APPT. THEN THEY REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TROUBLES WITH THE BRAKING. WHERE IT SUDDENLY TAKES EXTRA EFFORT AND REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKES TO GET IT TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN WE'VE DRIVEN IT TO FORD FOR REPAIR THEY THROW THEIR HANDS UP, ACT FRUSTRATED, LIKE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY CLUE AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE. WE WERE HESITANT TO RENEW OUR STATE TAGS AS IT SITS PARKED MOST OF THE TIME, SINCE IT CHUGGED ON LEVEL SURFACE WITH NO RAIN PRESENT, AND THE MECHANICS LIGHT CAME ON. WE FEEL SCARED DRIVING IT AND IT HAS REMAINED PARKED FOR 3+ WEEKS. THIS IS OUR NEWEST VEHICLE, WHICH LOOKS NEW AND YET WE CAN'T DRIVE IT. WE'RE NOT MADE OUT OF MONEY, AND CAN NOT EASILY REPLACE THIS TRUCK. WE WANT FORD TO FIX THE ENGINE AND THE BRAKES, AND NOT ACT LIKE THEY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. AGAIN, THE ONLY COMMON FACTOR WHEN THIS HAPPENS IS THE TEMP AND MOISTURE IN THE AIR, WEATHER ITS RAINING, SNOWING, OR THE ROADS ARE WET. IT WILL HAPPEN ALMOST CONSISTENTLY AT THE 1.5 HOUR MARK OF DRIVING. I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT THE COMPUTER ISN'T SHOWING ANY TROUBLES, BUT THIS IS GETTING AGGRAVATING. THE ENGINE CODE WAS A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER #6. TSB 13-08-01 WAS APPLIED AND I WAS BILLED $255.66. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS A RECALL AND REPAIRS MADE BEFORE SOMEONE IS BADLY HURT. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED ON THE INTERSTATE. THE PROBLEM IS HIGH HUMIDITY CONDENSES IN THE INTERCOOLER (CAC) OR CHARGE AIR COOLER AS FORD CALLS IT. THEN A SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAUSES THE CONDENSED WATER TO ENTER THE ENGINE GROUNDING OUT THE SPARK PLUGS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER AND STALL. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS, PULLED THE TRUCK TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES WHILE I CALLED WORK TO INFORM THEM THAT I WOULD LIKELY HAVE TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK AND BE DELAYED. DURING THAT CALL, THE ENGINE LIGHT STOPPED BLINKING AND THE TRUCK BEGAN RUNNING NORMALLY AGAIN. I REENTERED THE HIGHWAY WHEN TRAFFIC WAS CLEAR AND THE TRUCK PROCEEDED TO RUN NORMALLY UNTIL I REACHED MY WORKPLACE (ROUGHLY 2-3 MORE MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AND ABOUT 5 MILES THROUGH THE CITY). A LESS SEVERE INSTANCE OF THIS OCCURRED MONTHS BEFORE. IN THAT CASE, THERE WAS A SHORT POWER LAG UPON ATTEMPTED ACCELERATION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKED 2-3 TIMES AND THEN STOPPED BLINKING AND THE TRUCK DID NOT SHAKE AT ALL. I HAD A STATE TROOPER CERTIFIED IN DOWNLOADING EVENT RECORDER DATA DO SUCH TO MY TRUCK. THE DATA SHOWS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED..BUT DOES NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR BEING PUSHED VS.THE ACCELERATOR POSITION AS INDICATED. HOWEVER, IT DOES SHOW SERVICE BRAKE APPLIED AND CONTINUAL ACCELERATION AT THE SAME TIME WHICH I CAN PROVE WAS NOT DONE BY ME! I HAVE PICTURES OF ABRASIONS TO MY RIGHT SHIN AND KNEE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND DASH..MY RIGHT FOOT WAS FULLY APPLIED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL CAUSING THE ABRASIONS AT IMPACT DUE TO BEING DIRECTLY IN LINE WITH THE STEERING COLUMN. I ACCELERATED HARD ON A HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO STUTTER TO THE POINT I THOUGHT IT MIGHT STALL OUT. I LET OFF THE GAS AND ACCELERATED AGAIN MORE SLOWLY WITH NO PROBLEM. THINKING IT WAS A ONE OFF I ACCELERATED HARD AGAIN AND AGAIN THE CAR STUTTERED. I WENT EASY FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND THEN AGAIN ACCELERATED HARD A FEW DAYS LATER WITH THE SAME RESULT. I GOT ONLINE AND REALIZED I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS ENGINE. ON 4/18/14 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP(LANDERS FORD, COLLIERVILLE, TN) AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH IT AND SAID THERE WAS A FIX. THIS FIX INCLUDED INSTALLING A MOISTURE DEFLECTOR AND REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER. IT WAS PERFORMED AND I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. DURING RAIN STORM OR HIGH HUMIDITY DRIVING CONDITIONS, WHILE AT A STEADY SPEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, I APPLY THE GAS PEDAL TO PASS OR MERGE, MY TRUCK STUTTERS AND LOSS OF ENGINE POWER OCCURS. ONE PARTICULAR TRIP FROM PENNSYLVANIA TO FLORIDA AND BACK, THIS ABOVE CONDITION HAPPENED NO LESS THAN 15 TIMES. HAD MY TRUCK IN FOR MULTIPLE SERVICES AND NOTHING, BUT A CODE FOR MISFIRE I BELIEVE THE TECH SAID. HAD ALL TSB'S DONE AS OF AUGUST 2013. THE SUBJECT PICK UP TRUCK WAS SOUTHBOUND ON I405 BETWEEN ORANGE AVE AND CHERRY AVE IN LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE FAST LANE OR THE LANE ADJACENT TO THE FAST LANE. SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WAS APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE WITH ALL LANES MOVING AT FREEWAY SPEED. WITHOUT WARNING, AND SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE SOUND OF A SKIDDING TIRE, THE VEHICLE PULLED VIOLENTLY AND ABRUPTLY TO THE RIGHT, OUT OF CONTROL, AND CROSSED ALL TRAFFIC LANES OF THE FREEWAY AND THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. JUST PRIOR TO DEPARTING THE ROADWAY, ENOUGH CONTROL WAS REGAINED TO AVOID HITTING A FREEWAY DIRECTIONAL SIGN IN THE LANDSCAPE MEDIAN. THE TRUCK ENTERED THE LANDSCAPE MEDIAN AND CAME TO REST FACING SOUTH, PARALLEL TO THE FREEWAY. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES PASSED BEFORE THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL RESPONDED TO THE ACCIDENT SITE. THE OFFICER SAID HE WAS RESPONDING TO AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION. FIVE TO TEN MINUTES PRIOR TO THE LOSS OF CONTROL, THE DRIVER NOTICED A FLUCTUATION IN THE SPEEDOMETER FROM APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH TO 50 MPH WITH NO CHANGE IN VEHICLE SPEED, ENGINE RPM OR PERFORMANCE. SEVERAL WEEKS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER EXPERIENCED AN EVENT AT MODERATE SPEED WHICH WAS DESCRIBED AS FEELING THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AT SLOW SPEED ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND THE TRUCK. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER BOTH FAILED TO 0 AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY WENT BLANK. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, A "WRENCH" ICON APPEARED MOMENTARILY ON THE DISPLAY. THE DRIVER CONTINUED DRIVING TO A GAS STATION AND REFUELED. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AFTER REFUELING, ALL INSTRUMENTS APPEARED NORMAL WITH NO ICONS PRESENT. I SHOULD NOTE THAT MY TRUCK HAS THE 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE. THIS OCCURRED ON A VERY COLD MORNING (-15F) WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A TRUCK ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY, GOING UP HILL. I HAD BEEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. AS I PULLED INTO THE LEFT LANE AND ACCELERATED HARD, THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHUTTER AND MISFIRE, LOSING ALMOST ALL POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED 3 OR 4 TIMES THEN CAME ON SOLID. I WAS ABLE TO DROP BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE BEHIND THE TRUCK AND AVOID AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. I LIMPED THE TRUCK TO AN AREA WHERE I COULD GET OFF THE ROAD. AFTER TURNING THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE, IT RAN BETTER BUT NOT AT WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED FULL POWER. I GOT TO MY DESTINATION ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, LEFT THE TRUCK SIT FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND HEADED BACK TOWARDS HOME. THE ENGINE SEEMED TO RUN NORMALLY AT CRUISING SPEED. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT WE WERE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT, AS THE TRUCK COMPLETELY DIED OUT. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE AND FINALLY GOT THE VEHICLE STARTED. I WAS DRIVING IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AT ABOUT 70-75 MILES PER HOUR. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50 DEGREES. I ENCOUNTER A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE AND MOVED INTO THE LEFT HAND LANE AND TRIED TO PROMPTLY ACCELERATE TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND GO INTO A VERY RAPID DECELERATION. THE VIOLENT VIBRATION OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AND RAPID DECELERATION MADE CONTROL A CHALLENGE. I MOVED TO THE RIGHT HAND LANE REDUCED SPEED TO 50 MPH AND CONTINUED ON TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE VEHICLE EVALUATED. UNDER HARD ACCELERATION ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO CUT OUT AND MISFIRE, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE INNERCOOLER HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW, AT ROUGHLY 55,000 MILES IT HAS BEGUN TO DO IT AGAIN, I HAD NOTICED IT SOME BEFORE, BUT NOW IT IS WORSE. I TOOK MY 2011 F150 WITH THE ECOBOOST TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THEY SAID A TSB HAD BEEN WRITTEN AND THEY CHANGED THE REPLACED THE LOWER AIR DEFLECTOR. THIS ACTUALLY MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE. AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE FROM A STOP TO ABOUT 80 MPH, EVERY GEAR WILL CUT OUT AND SOMETIMES PUT THE ENGINE INTO A PROTECTION MODE BEGINNING AROUND 4,000 RPM. IF IT SHAKES AND SHUDDERS MADE ENOUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH, AND NOW IT HAS COME ON AND STAYED ON. IT HAS BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF I PULL OUT TO MAKE A PASS AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND I CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE. GOING UP A STEEP HILL IN COLORADO ON INTERSTATE I70 AND THE TRUCK STARTED HOPPING AND LURCHING, DROPPING MY SPEED FROM 60-40. THE TRUCK LOST POWER ALMOST CAUSING ME TO BE REAR-ENDED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. DUE TO THE STEEPNESS OF THE CLIMB, I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS A MISFIRE COMMON IN THE ECOBOOST TRUCKS. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED GOING UP A STEEP GRADE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, CAUSING POWER TO DECREASE DRASTICALLY. TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS CRACKED SPARK PLUGS, COMMON IN THE ECOBOOST ENGINE. I APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND LET OFF THE GAS, AND STARTED TO SLOWDOWN SEVERAL HUNDRED YARDS BEFORE COMING TO INTERSECTION. THE F-150 SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND MY FOOT APPLY AS HARD AS I COULD TO THE BRAKE. THE TRUCK WAS ACCELERATING ON OWN. ABS KICKED IN AND PULSED. THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS WHILE ATTEMPTING HARD ACCELERATION UNTIL IT WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER INSTALLED A "DEFLECTOR" TO PREVENT MOISTURE FROM ENTERING THE TURBO OR AFTERCOOLER AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. WE WERE MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY OUTSIDE OF ST. LOUIS MO AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS FULLY DEPRESSED THE ENGINE STARTED TO MISFIRE AND POWER WAS REDUCED. A BLINKING CEL WAS DISPLAYING ON THE DASHBOARD. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE TURBO SYSTEM WAS NOT ADDING ANY EXTRA CHARGE TO THE AMBIENT AIR. THERE WAS A PRONOUNCED VIBRATION TO THE VEHICLE THAT SEEMED TO ORIGINATE FROM THE ENGINE/DRIVE TRAIN. LUCKILY THERE AS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC AT THE TIME AND OUR POOR ACCELERATION DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. MY SOLUTION WAS TO MANUALLY SELECT THE GEARS AND DRIVE AT MUCH HIGHER RPM. THIS SMOOTHED THE MISFIRE AND WE HAD AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF POWER TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES EVERYTHING SMOOTHED OUT AND THE MISFIRE WAS GONE. TRUCK BEHAVIOR RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE WEATHER THAT DAY WAS A PLEASANT 60 DEGREES AND SUNNY. THE PREVIOUS DAY WE DROVE FROM CENTRAL OHIO TO ST. LOUIS THROUGH MUCH RAIN AND FOG. SINCE WE WERE ON VACATION AND AWAY FROM HOME WE DID NOT TAKE THE TRUCK TO A DEALER TO BE SERVICED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THEN. THERE WAS ONE PREVIOUS OCCURRENCE AT A PREVIOUS DATE. I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHEN IT WAS. WE WERE TRAVELING HOME TO VT FROM OHIO. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR MANY HOURS, MOSTLY ON HIGHWAY/CRUISE CONTROL DRIVING. WE HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND WERE ON STATE HIGHWAY. I WENT TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE IN MY LANE AND UPON DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE ENGINE SEEMED TO MISFIRE (RPM WENT UP BUT POWER DELIVERY FELL FLAT). I STEPPED OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND SLOWLY PRESSED A SECOND TIME AND THIS TIME THE TRUCK RESPONDED AS EXPECTED. THERE WAS NO CEL THIS TIME. THE TECHNICIAN REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND INSTALLED A HEAT SHIELD. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A BUILD UP OF MOISTURE IN THE INTERCOOLER. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500.

I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE A SECOND TIME BUT THE VEHICLE REACTED THE SAME WAY. I THEN SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND HIT THE BRAKE AND EXIT THE EXPRESS WAY. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN BUT THE ENGINE IDLE WAS STILL EXTREMELY HIGH AND THE ACCELERATOR DEPRESS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE IDLE REDUCE TO NORMAL. WHEN I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND GOT OUT AND MY BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY HOT AND SMOKING. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD BUT COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING THAT INDICATED A PROBLEM. I ACCELERATED TO PASS AND WAS PARTIALLY AROUND THE TRUCK WHEN THE ENGINE OF MY TRUCK STARTED MISFIRING AND LOST POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT ALONG AND GET BACK INTO MY LANE BEFORE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE MOTOR IN MY TRUCK IS THE 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST. I HAVE SEEN REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO THIS MOTOR, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED SO DRAMATICALLY TO MINE. I DON'T RECALL HAVING TRAVELED FOR ANY DISTANCE IN THESE CONDITIONS WITH THIS TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM LOOKED AT. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT REPAIRS DEPENDING ON HOW THE TRUCK IS EQUIPPED. WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY VIA AN ON-RAMP DOING ABOUT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR I ATTEMPTED HARD ACCELERATION TO PICK UP SPEED AND MERGE IN TO TRAFFIC THAT WAS DOING APPROXIMATELY 65-70 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN I DEPRESSED THE THROTTLE THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE, BUT IT STARTED TO HESITATE AND SHAKE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 40 MILES PER HOUR. THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT SITUATION AS I EXPECTED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE WHEN IT DID NOT. I WAS THEN FORCED TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE THE CEL HAD CLEARED AND THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. NO CODE WAS STORED IN THE PCM TO INDICATE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. ONCE WHILE TOWING A 4000LB BOAT/TRAILER WHICH ALSO ALMOST CAUSED A SEVERE ACCIDENT. FORD HAS FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND CONCLUDES THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE NO CODES WERE STORED. I WILL NOTE THAT AFTER RECEIVING TSB 12-2-10 THE VEHICLE WILL STILL EXHIBIT THE SAME SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED ABOVE, BUT NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. VEHICLE WILL STALL, GO IN TO "LIMP MODE" WITH NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING IS WRONG. ONLY RESOLUTION IS TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON TO CLEAR THE STATUS.
