Vehicle: 2012 Ford F-150 Incident Description: While driving straight under normal conditions, the “Service Power Steering Service Now” warning message suddenly appeared on the dashboard, accompanied by an audible warning alarm. Immediately after this warning, the steering wheel became extremely stiff and difficult to turn, with a sudden loss of power steering assistance. This failure occurred At the time, traffic was heavy, making it very difficult and dangerous to safely maneuver the vehicle and pull over. The sudden loss of steering assistance created a serious safety risk for myself and other drivers and could have resulted in a crash. I was eventually able to pull over to a safe location, This appears to be a sudden steering system failure and represents a significant safety concern

I had several instances where my electronic power assist steering (EPAS) has failed resulting in advance trac and other errorson my information screen.This has resulted in effectively NO steering. Thank goodness I was in a parking lot or going slow otherwise may have resulted in severe injury or death. This appears to be a problem with my make and model of truck based on what I have read on the internet and my personal experiences. I am in shock that there has not been a proper recall as of this date. I am having dealer put in a second EPAS unit in less than 2 years and considerable cost to me.
I was proceed up to 45mph, when back tires started sliding. I rolled the truck and damage my ribs, was pined for 1.5hrs lost a $80k+
My truck started to skid as I was making a left turn. I wasn't going fast enough to skid. I then noticed the idiot light was on so I took it in for an estimate. I was told that the truck needed a power steering rack and the cost would be around $3000.00 I arranged for the repair. Truck mileage was 101051.
I started getting a notification on my dash about a issue with the charging system. I checked system and it is fine. Now I am getting other lights on my dash and head lights flashing. Come to find out, it's a bad Body control module. I also have a steering issue, from time to time the truck is hard to steer and I been told it's signs of a bad rack and pinion. I also have had the same issues with my 2011 F-150. The bad body control module I fixed but the steering if bad. I have read on Ford forums that others across the country are have the same issues but of course no recall.
This truck is a safety hazard! The waterpump had to be replaced due to overheating, plus numerous other engine issues. it only has 137,000 miles on it But the REAL safety hazard is the power steering goes out at random times. and when this happens the dash goes blank. This has happened 4 times and each time we were lucky it was not on a busy highway, and close to home. The mechanic did everything he knew to do, and when we got it back....It did it again!!! Now, supposedly it is fixed, and we drove it home with no issues.....but...again, they are random, and I am scared to drive the truck. Will it take someone getting killed for this recall to happen? I have seen numerous post about this happening to others. I live on a winding back road, and if the power steering went out, I dont think it would end well. We are thinking of selling it, but I cant in my heart sell it to someone knowing these issues, and if we trade at a dealership, they will find numerous problems and never give us what it is worth, even though these problems are not from neglect

Electric assisted steering locks up traveling or parked. While traveling really have to strain muscles keeping in lane of travel, when steering turns it turns to far and I am trying to correct steering over corrects back in opposite direction. Cannot keep pickup in lane of travel.
Whilst driving, suddenly power steering assist fault light flashed on and steering became very difficult to turn. Was able to safely pull off the road. After several attempts, the fault cleared and steering was fully functional again. Had I been on interstate it most likely would have caused accident.
Service Advance Trac warning light comes on when backing while steering wheel turned. Multiple instances. Clears after a few minutes, but researching issue seems to be widespread across the Ford community, and has resulted in steering locking up while vehicle is in motion. Scheduled for maintenance visit to local dealership to diagnose. Codes read were C1963 & U0428

As your driving advance track failure light comes on and you lose power steering. Steering gets real tight and hard to turn. Almost got in a car accident but was able to turn the steering as hard as i could just to make the turn. Drive for a little while then all of a sudden power steering kicked back on. It happen every time i drive my truck.
Without warning, power steering went out. This truck has less than 17,000 miles on it and is kept spotless and well maintained, garage kept. Power steering came back but now we're worried it'll go out again without warning and under possibly much worse/dangerous conditions. Bringing it in for a diagnostic, but cost of a new rack is over 2000.00. And what assurance do we have that it will not happen again with the new rack? These electric racks are being recalled under other Ford vehicles, yet not the F150.
After arriving at work, when I went out to my truck to drive to lunch I started the truck and it was fine, for about 3 seconds. As I started to drive it the power assist steering failed and the error code displayed on the dash. The steering as you might expect become very heavy and hard. Luckily I was not at speed, and there was not a vehicle near me to hit. Turned off the truck and inspected under the hood. No apparent damage and nothing appeared broken. Closed hood and restarted truck. Same sequence occurred. Could steer initially just enough to start moving, then complete steering assist failure with the error code popping up on the dashboard display. Turned off again. Restarted and left running and popped hood to see if anything looked bad. Nothing bad. After idling for about 5 minutes while I poked around, tried again and for some reason the power assist had restarted itself and was working. After carefully testing in the parking lot, decided to drive to a local auto repair shop I use. They are assessing the error codes and trying to figure out what happened. If this had happened at speed and without warning, I guarantee I could have hit something or someone before I could wrestle the truck to a safe place.
Turning right the vehicle's steering and brakes locked up. The traction control system warning indicator illuminated. Rac and pinion unit replaced by Ford Dealer. Same problem occurred within 50 miles. Returned to Dealer. Dealer is unable to reproduce problem.
Electronic power steering module went out in the rack and pinion had to replace whole rack and pinion to fix problem. Power steering went out while driving

My power steering assist light and my advance track light came on then my steering locked up and I had no control of my vehicle. Luckily I was pulling Into my drive so no one was hurt. I had my 7 year old gson with me too. It could of been fatal. I did some research there's a recall on this on vehicles before 2012 and after 2012 but not on my vehicle which is a 2012 my rack and pinion went out I don't have any backup lights this could have been a serious accident and if anything would have happened to my grandson oh boy Ford but I want to know why my truck doesn't have a recall hurt
Vehicle lost its power in the power steering system, and you lose all control over the vehicle and you can't move left or right Making it very dangerous for me while it occurred, since I was unable to move the car towards any direction.
My wife had the steering lock up on her tonight and made her pull into oncoming traffic, head on. She was able to stop the truck in the oncoming traffic lane, narrowly missing being hit head on. The steering gave her no warning, and just locked on her when she wad attempting to veer into a turn lane. The truck immediately jumped a curb divider,landing her into on coming traffic on one of the busiest streets in town. Quick thinking of switching on the hazards and praying, is all that kept her safe. The steering on this 2012 Ford F150 ecoboost has become increasingly worse over the last 3 weeks. Started with the advance track light going off every time we turned left, and has now escalated to this...almost killing my wife. I know now, after doing extensive research that this is actually fairly common in these trucks. 2011-2014 seem to be the problem trucks. A Bulletin was finally made for the 2011 models. I think it's safe to say that the 2012, 2013 and 2014s should also be put on that list. There are countless people having a steering rack issue with these trucks. And when this issue comes to a head, it's usually when you are driving, and lose all control, because of the electronic steering mechanism.
Electronic Power Assist System failure while driving down the road. It became very difficult to operate the vehicle. If anyone but myself were operating the truck it would have resulted in an accident.
Steering becomes hard, almost impossible when a “Power Steering Assist Fault” displays on in-dash information screen. It happens simultaneously with a very audible chime and instantaneous loss of power steering. It has happened randomly all at low speeds and doesn’t happen every time the vehicle is driven. Dealership was contacted and will be dropping vehicle off for them to diagnose and repair. The danger is sudden loss of vehicle control due to “fault.” Steering become almost impossible. When “fault” occurs, I have been able to regain steering with turning the vehicle off, then on. Steering then returns.
The electrical steering failed causing the vehicle to be unable to steer. A clear safer issue. Almost caused a collision.

Sept 1 I was driving to the highway going to work when I felt a small jolt in my steering wheel. I thought it was a bump in the street and thought nothing of it. When I got off of work, and was leaving the parking lot I felt the same small jolt (almost like a pulling sensation in the steering wheel). When I was driving home doing around 70mph I get a message message on my dash (power steering needs maintenance immediately or something of the sorts) and a seconds after my steering column seizes up while i'm driving. My truck is well maintained and I do not do any off roading. The problem was sudden and could of been fatal. Fortunately I was able to pull of the road before I got hurt. After doing some reading this is a very common problem that ford has with there f150s, but ford has not announced a recall yet.

THE CONTACT CALLED BLUE RIDGE NORTH GEORGIA FORD, 7525 APPALACHIAN HWY, MINERAL BLUFF, GA 30559, AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SCHEDULE AND APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ALSO INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL AND WILL HAD TO PAY A FEE FOR THE REPAIR AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

WE WENT TO MY BROTHERS FOR DINNER. WHEN WE BACKED INTO HIS DRIVEWAY THE TRUCK MADE A HORRIBLE NOISE. WHEN WE GOT HOME, WE COULD BARELY BACK INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, IN FACT WE WERE HALF THE FLOWERBED AND HALF ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE NEXT MORNING WE TRIED TO MOVE THE TRUCK OVER SO WE COULD GET OUR OTHER CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE, AND THE TRUCK WAS BARELY DRIVABLE. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT IT THE NEXT DAY. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AND THE SAME CODE CAME UP AS THE RECALL THAT MY FATHER FOUND WHEN RESEARCHING, BUT OUR VIN NUMBER WASN'T ONE OF THEM. THEY GAVE US AN ESTIMATE OF APPROX. $3000. WE HAD IT TOWED TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FIXED IT FOR $1,981. WE THANK OUR LUCKY STARS THE STEERING GEAR DID NOT GO OUT ON US ON OUR WAY HOME, WE PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE HERE TO TELL ABOUT IT, AS WE WERE ON A DARK CURVY ROAD AND THEN ON THE FREEWAY.

WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON A NEW SET OF TIRES, I HAD A POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING. I WAS ATTENDING A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME AND WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK TO RETURN HOME A NOTICE CAME ON THE DASH. I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN, OPENED THE DOOR THEN RESTARTED. THE WARNING WAS GONE AND I HAD POWER STEERING. WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL LEFT WAS VERY EASY, TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT WAS JUST SLIGHTLY HARDER.

THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.

MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I DID RECEIVE THE DAY BEFORE A WARNING STATING TO HAVE MY ADVANCEDTRAC SYSTEM SERVICED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST TIRE AND BRAKE SERVICE CENTER THAT I WAS ALREADY SCHEDULE TO DO AN ALIGNMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK WAS IN ALIGNMENT BUT THEY SUSPECTED I COULD HAVE A STEERING PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING GEAR AND THE COST WOULD BE 1900.00 DOLLARS. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED THAT FORD HAS HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THIS TYPE OF POWER STEERING SYSTEMS. IT IS VERY UNSAFE. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

MAKING A RIGHT TURN OFF OF A COUNTY ROAD AT 10 MPH AND EPSA FAULT WARNING CAME ON. COULD NOT PHYSICALLY TURN THE VEHICLE. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED. NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON F150S FROM 2009 THROUGH 2018 WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. MY SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER HAS NOT BEEN FOUND BUT I HAVE READ SIMILAR ARTICLES WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. LOST POWER STEARING A YEAR AGO DASH WARNING READS POWER STEARING ASSIST FAULT. AT THE SAME TIME MY HEATER BLOWER STOPPED WORKING. MY MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO RESET THE FAULT AND STEERING WOULD COME BACK BUT USUALLY FOR A DAY OR TWO. IT WOULD FAULT OUT DURING THIS TIME BUT I COULD SHUT OFF AND RESTART THE TRUCK AND IT WOULD RESET THE FAULT BUT ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT AT THIS WOULD NOT RESET THE FAULT . THIS WENT ON FOR A MONTH OR SO AS WE TRIED TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. THEN ONE DAY IT WOULD NO LONGER RESET AT ALL. SO I HAD THE STEERING RACK REPLACED. LAST APRIL. LESS THEN 5000 KM LATER IN SEPTEMBER THE STEERING FAULT HAPPENED AGAIN ALONG WITH TRACTION CONTROL FAULT AND DISINGRATED THE FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE BRAKE. AND THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR WENT AGAIN. THESE RACKS AND THE LABOUR INTENSIVE REPLACEMENT ALONG WITH THE COST OF THE OTHER FIXES IS ASTRONOMICAL. I AM ABOUT TOO INSTALL THE THIRD RACK.WITH NO CONFIDENCE AT ALL THAT I WILL NOT BE BACK TOO SQUARE ONE IN SEPT AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 45 MINUTES. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUES I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS ON THE SAME MODEL. THAT'S A BIT MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE. I THEN TOOK IT TO BE DIAGNOSED BY A FORD DEALER SERVICE CENTER AND THEY FOUND AN "INTERNAL FAILURE" OF THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY GEAR, PART #EL3Z-3504-BE. THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED ON MANY 2008-2014 F150S, BUT MINE ISN'T ON THE RECALL LIST. I LIVE IN NASHVILLE, SO MY DRIVING IS A MIX OF CITY STREETS AND INTERSTATES. I HAVE THE DIAGNOSIS/ESTIMATE PAPERWORK ON HAND. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS REFUSED TO RETURN MY CALLS.

WAS ABLE TO HARD BREAK AT STOP SIGN, TURN OFF VEHICLE AND TURN BACK ON - POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN, NOVEMBER 2018 - THE POWER STEERING ALERT LIGHT APPEARED ON 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE DISPLAY ILLUMINATED AND HAS STAYED ILLUMINATED EVER SINCE. 2) THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED REPLACING A $100 PART - I CONTINUED TO SWITCH THE WIPERS ON AND OFF UNTIL WIPERS STAYED OFF. SITUATION STILL REQUIRES ON/OFF SWITCHING SOMETIMES BUT HAS IMPROVED OVER TIME 3) THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF A $400 BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. I CONTINUED TO WAIT FOR BRAKE PEDAL TO FIRM BEFORE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND THE SITUATION RESOLVED TO NORMAL PRESENTLY. THAT IS TO SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. 4) TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND INCURRED A $700+ CHARGE FOR IWES SYSTEM. DEALERSHIP SAID THE CHECK VALVES HAD STUCK OPEN AND DIRT AND DUST HAD ENTERED THE SYSTEM REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF PARTS 5) THIS IS THE LATEST ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TURNING AFTER A STOP AND DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY DAY. I SUSPECT IT WILL RESOLVE ITSELF OVERTIME IF MY THEORY AS STATED AT THE TOP IS CORRECT.

WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LOCKED UP DURING A TURN. THE SYSTEM LOCKED FOR LESS THAN A SECOND, AND THEN FREED UP SO THAT I COULD FINISH THE TURN. LUCKILY THE STEERING DID NOT LOCK UP BEFORE OR AFTER THE TURN, SO THAT I COULD COMPLETE THE TURN AND GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY, I STAYED ON COUNTY ROADS TO REDUCE SPEED TO 30MPH AND SEE IF THE REDUCED SPEED HELPED. AFTER 30 MORE MINUTES OF DRIVING THE STEERING WAS COMPLETELY LOCKING UP WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT OR TURNING, AND SCREECHING VERY LOUDLY. THE "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC" MESSAGE SHOWED UP, FOLLOWED BY "ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAULT" MESSAGE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC, WHERE THEY SAID THE WHOLE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, COSTING AROUND $2000. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN THE WORK DONE YET AND HOPE THAT THERE IS A RECALL WITH THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. IF THE STEERING WERE TO LOCK UP ANY SOONER THAN IT HAD, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN MAJOR INJURY OR DEATH.

YESTERDAY AS I WAS MAKING A TURN THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION, MY STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED UP AND THE ALERT "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" POPPED UP ON MY DASH. I WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN, AND A CAR GOING NEARLY 55 MPH SWERVED AROUND ME AND MISSED T-BONING ME BY A FEW FEET. INITIALLY, I WAS JUST CONCERNED. BUT AFTER GOING TO THE MECHANIC AND FINDING THAT MY STEERING CONTROL MODULE IS FAULTY (THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 62,000 MILES ON IT), AND THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE IN OTHER FORD VEHICLES AND IN THE F150 AS WELL, I BECAME FURIOUS THAT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL WHEN I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED YESTERDAY. IF FORD DOES NOT MAKE THIS RIGHT, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE, WILL ENCOURAGE ALL MY FRIENDS/FAMILY TO NEVER PURCHASE A FORD VEHICLE, AND WILL USE MY CONSIDERABLE BUSINESS AND PERSONAL NETWORK TO ENSURE THAT THEY ALL KNOW THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT A VERY SIGNIFICANT ISSUE AND IS REFUSING TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR AN ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO THE DEATH OF ITS CUSTOMERS. I CALLED THE MINIONS AT THE 1-800 NUMBER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AND THAT FORD HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AND I WAS ON MY OWN. I'LL PAY THE $1500 + LABOR NOW. BUT I'LL BE BACK WITH MY ATTORNEY IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT ADDRESSED TO MY SATISFACTION.

I TURNED THE A/C OFF AND MY POWER STEERING CAME BACK. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN YET. BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. NOTIFIED DEALER ABOUT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON HERE AND FORUMS ABOUT BAD STEERING BOXES. TOOK TRUCK IN TO DEALERSHIP AND MECHANIC EXPERIENCED IT ON TEST DRIVE. TIGHTENED ALL FRONT SUSPENSION HARDWARE AND ALL WAS TIGHT. WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THEY CAN'T REPLACE ANYTHING IF NOTHING IS BROKE. THEY HAD NO EXPLANATION OF THE CONCERN EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC FELT IT ON TEST DRIVE. THE TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 10,000 MILES ON IT NOW AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE ABOUT 7,000 OR 8,000 MILES. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS TRUCK. I HAVE OWNED A LOT OF FORDS IN THE PAST BUT IF THIS IS NOT RESOLVED I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN. SO I WENT HOME AND STARTED TO READ ON F150 FORUM.COM AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE WITH 2011-2013 F150 YEAR TRUCK IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE OF THUNKIN NOISE. IT TURNS OUT IT IS NOT TIE RODS, IT IS A BAD STEERING RACK AND PINION. I READ ALOT OF INFORMATION AND A VIDEO OF A TRUCK THAT SOUND LIKE MINE. I HAVE READ WHERE A SERVICE WRITER MENTIONED THAT 2 TRUCKS LOST STEERING BUT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT AND THE STEERING RACKS WERE REPLACED. I HAVE CALLED FORD SERVICE RECENTLY AND THEY SAID THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BAD STEERING RACKS. MANY OWNERS OF THESE TRUCKS HAVE POSTED IN THE FORUM THAT FORD KNOWS OF THESE SO CALLED CONTAMINATED STEERING RACKS THAT WERE MADE. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON LA 3033 WHEN SHE BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE STEERING RESPONSE WAS ERRATIC AND SLOW, PULLING A LITTLE TO THE RIGHT AND HARD TO TURN IN CORNERS. THIS STARTED ABOUT 3 MILES BEFORE THE INCIDENT AND SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG BUT CONTINUED AHEAD. THERE ARE HARDLY ANY SHOULDERS ON THIS HIGHWAY AND SHE WENT STRAIGHT DOWN THE LEVEE EMBANKMENT AND HIT A TREE AND INTO THE WATER. THE VEHICLE FROM ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE IN OCTOBER OF 2012 HAS EXHIBITED A KNOCK/CLUNK/VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING THAT TRANSMITS UP THROUGH THE STEERING COLUMN AND CAN BE FELT WHILE HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL AND HEARD FROM THE FRONTAL AREA OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALSO OFF CENTER TO THE LEFT AND VEHICLE SEEMS TO PULL LEFT REGARDLESS OF ROAD CROWN AND THE FRONT TWO TIRES ARE FEATHERED ACROSS THE TREAD. THE FIRST VISIT TO DEALER AT 2700 MILES THE DEALER RESET THE TOE AS IT WAS TOE OUT CAUSING UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT ROUGHLY 4700 MILES FOR THE KNOCK/CLUNK/VIBRATION AND UNEVEN TIRE WEAR AGAIN AND IT WAS FOUND THAT PINCH BOLTS WERE LOOSE ON THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSING THE CLUNK. DEALER STATES THE UNEVEN TIRE WEAR WAS DUE TO LOW TIRE PRESSURE. AFTER PICKING UP VEHICLE THE KNOCK/CLUNK/VIBRATION IS STILL PRESENT. WITH THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNING THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH RAPIDLY THE KNOCK/CLUNK CAN BE HEARD FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE DEALER STATES THIS IS NORMAL NOISE FROM THE FORD EPAS STEERING RACK. ASKED DEALER TO COMPARE TO A NEW LIKE VEHICLE ON THE LOT. DEALER CHANGED THE SUBJECT. SOUNDS LIKE FAULTY TIE ROD ENDS OR FAULTY INTERNAL RACK COMPONENTS FROM MY PAST AUTOMOTIVE EXPERIENCE. THE DEALER NOTICED THE NOISE DURING THE ROAD TEST AND CONTACTED THE FORD HOTLINE. NO REPAIRS MADE. SEPTEMBER 21, 2012 BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK FOR THE SAME CONDITION. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE NOISE CONDITION. NO REPAIRS MADE. OCTOBER 25, 2012 AFTER CONTACTING FORD CUSTOMER CARE CENTER MYSELF, THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO BRING THE TRUCK BACK IN AND THEY WILL REPLACE THE TIE RODS. TIE RODS REPLACED ON THIS DATE. NOVEMBER 5, 2012 BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK IN FOR THE SAME CONDITION. SERVICE DEPARTMENT REFUSED TO TEST DRIVE THE TRUCK, AND TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL AND "OPERATES AS DESIGNED". FORD HAD SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THE 2011 EXPLORER EPAS, AND NOW THE NEW F150 (BEGINNING WITH 2011 MODEL) WITH EPAS IS BEGINNING TO SHOW THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS AT PERRY FORD IN POWAY, CA YESTERDAY, AND THE SERVICE WRITER STATED THAT TWO NEW F150'S LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL. THE ONLINE FORUM, WWW.F150FORUM.COM, HAS HUNDREDS OF NEW F150 OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. MANY HAVE HAD TOTAL STEERING RACK REPLACEMENTS ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM COME BACK IN A FEW THOUSAND MILES. I LIMIT MY DRIVING WITH THIS VEHICLE (ONLY 3,012 MI.) AFTER ONE YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. I REFUSE TO WASTE MY TIME WITH A RACK REPLACEMENT AS FORD HAS MADE NO MODIFICATIONS OR CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. THE VENDOR FOR THIS EPAS UNIT IS NEXTEER.
