While in 6th gear driving on the highway at 70 mph the truck downshifted to 3rd and drastically decelerated. When this happened the instrument display went from having all 6 gear numbers viable to only 1 - 3. It had to be put into Manual Mode and shifted into 6th manually. This happens twice in the same trip.

Truck started making a loud sound from engine compartment on startup after towing camper 150 miles. The sound started to get louder and started to notice exhaust smells in the cabin. I took the truck into dealer to find out that the exhaust manifolds were warped leaking on both sides of engine due to a stud being broken that holds the manifold in place the tech said it sounds like a diesel. The service advisor at the dealership said that it is a "common problem" on the 3.5L twin turbo engine. The cab of the truck fills with the exhaust fumes to the point where the driver gets headaches unless the windows are open. I asked if there was a recall on this problem and they said NO. The same manifolds was used for years on that motor, since then Ford redesigned the manifolds to use extra studs into the heads that are already there but now want the consumers to pay to install the new design to keep the fumes out of the cab. Looking online it seems to be a problem that the turbos are heating the manifolds to the point that they warp and snap the only stud used on the rear portion of manifolds for owners that tow with the truck (that has a tow package and rated at 12500 capacity) FYI I'm only towing 5000 pounds. My concerns are that the exhaust fumes can overcome the driver an cause them to pass out or become impaired by the carbon dioxide poisoning.

Problem: Engine unexpectedly goes to idle speed after accelerating up to highway speeds. Cruise control was not engaged at time of failure. This has happened three times, all after a cold start up, and all within 2 miles of home. The most recent occurrence being 6-19-25. At time of failure, multiple warning screens come up on the dash, including "Hill Start Assist Not Available", "Service Advance Trac", "See Manual" (with a picture of a wrench). No check engine light comes on, and no error codes are set. Engine does not respond to accelerator pedal, engine will only idle roughly. When this occurs, the only remedy is to pull over to the side of the road, shut off the engine, then restart the vehicle. Each time this has happened, the engine starts and runs normally with all warning messages cleared from dash. Safety Concern: Unexpected loss of power can increase the likelihood of an accident, especially in heavy traffic. This truck is used frequently for towing, and an unexpected loss of power can create a loss of trailer control. Dealer Contact: Last September when this issue initially cropped up, the truck was taken to our Ford dealer for diagnosis. They kept the truck for approximately two weeks, driving it daily without having the issue reoccur. They performed diagnostics on electronic modules but found no concrete issue. Inspection: Truck has not been inspected by the manufacturer, only the dealer. Warning Lamps and Messages: "Hill Start Assist Not Available", "Service Advance Trac", "See Manual" (with a picture of a wrench)

Truck is at 135,000 miles and needs its 3rd oil pan due to faulty engineering. Ford is not covering repairs or offering assistance for previously repaired products. I bought truck certified pre-owned with extended warranty. The oil pan was cracked at that time and needed to be replaced at first service. On average oil pans are lasting less then 70,000 miles. How is this allowed to continue to occur.

Truck down shifts hard while driving. Hill assist warning light comes on and truck goes into limp mode and looses power going 60 mph. Pull over truck runs very rough. Turn truck off and back on screen says hill assist not available. Press ok and truck runs normal again. Happens every few days. Definitely could be dangerous if it happens on a bigger highway. Has happened 5 times over last few weeks at different speeds.

Transmission abruptly shifted down from high gear to low gear causing it to lock up at a fast speed. My son hit his chest on steering wheel bc it was so abrupt

Mar 28, 2025

I was driving at around 45mph and my truck suddenly downshifted automatically and almost brought me to a complete stop. It finally shifted back up and I was able to return to the proper speed. If this would have happened at higher speeds I could have been in an accident. Event at 45mph, had I not had my seatbelt on it would have thrown me into the steering wheel.

Broken exhaust bolt on passenger manifold. Exhaust leak... Felt as though Carbon monoxide gas was entering cabin portion of truck. Smelling of exhaust in cabin of vehicle. Made wife and kids nauseated and lightheaded. Did research and found out that ford had a poorly designed manifolds and didn't utilize all exhaust bolts. In turn caused the #8 bolt to snap and manifold to warp and release exhaust fumes

I was traveling [XXX] near Liverpool, PA at 60mph, the truck flashed a quick code on the dash and then suddenly downshifted from 6th gear to 1st almost spinning the truck as the rear wheels locked up momentarily. It would not upshift past 3rd gear and had to travel 35 miles home like that. I called my local Ford dealer (Parsons) and they said bring the truck in for diagnostic testing, so I did. Meanwhile I searched the internet to see if others had the issue. Turns out they did, BUT my 2015 with the 6R80 was NOT in the recall notice. Ford said it was the lead frame and needed to be replaced. IF it was a known problem, why not inform owners of these trucks. That said, Ford wanted $1500 to fix it, BUT they did not have the part. So I drove the truck (never with my family in it ever again) after I cleared the code with my reader...again traveling [XXX] @ 75mph it downshifted IN TRAFFIC. Luckily I was in the right lane and made a quick move to the shoulder to avoid being run over. In Carlisle, PA there are hundreds of trucking companies and warehouses, so the truck traffic is very heavy. That was it. I searched out the part, paid for it myself and had a Ford mechanic that does work on the side fix the truck. I have been a loyal Ford guy for over 30 years...I reached out to Ford via telephone, chat and even Facebook. All they say is it is NOT under any recall. Hard to swallow that when I am driving a $75K truck THEY built and they will NOT stand behind a $2K fix. Well goodbye Ford, as a business owner for over 25 years. If I make an error I fix it NO MATTER what. I gave Ford the opportunity to stand behind truck and they did...JUST FAR behind it and passed me as I sit on the shoulder of the road. I have had the gasket for the oil pan fix two times. It is leaking again and told by ford that it will happen again. It is 1200 to have it fixed plus they have to keep it for a few days to make sure the seal is dry. If you do not check the oil all the time it could be low and lock up. I know other people that have had this problem. It is on the 2.7 Eco boost.

During the course of driving on the interstate at 70mph the vehicle decelerated and went to a lower gear. The dash panel of the truck did not show all of the gears available. An emergency stop on the side of the road and turning the vehicle off and back on temporarily resolved the issue. It occurred intermittently and without warning. The truck continued to show problems and was taken to a transmissions shop which checked the transmission, replaced a line for a small leak and said everything seemed to be in order. The cause was not found to be a lack of transmission fluid as the levels were normal. The truck continued to intermittently decelerate. The last time that occurred, the back wheels locked up while on the road. The truck is now sitting due to the safety risk it poses and the locked up transmission on the rear end. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety and that of others was at risk. The problem was not replicated in a service center. The vehicle was inspected beforehand but not after the last issue, (it needs a tow as the back wheels are frozen). There was a warning light for the engine camshaft that came on and the problem was diagnosed at Ford as a camshaft issue though they could not understand the deceleration issue. The truck was taken first to Ford then to an independent transmission shop. Due to the issue the truck is not in use.

[XXX]: check engine light was on and codes P2196 and P2198 were present. The dealer suspected it was the purge valve, causing the problem so they replaced it and reset the codes. 10/10/24: I brought the truck in to have it looked at due to the check engine light being on again. I was told the lead frame needed to be replaced but was on backorder. The bill to diagnose this was 196.80 and I was told I could still drive it. On [XXX], I had to bring my truck in to be inspected because while I was going about 70 mph it all of a sudden downshifted and jerked me forward like it was going to abruptly stop. The check engine light came on and I had to drive pretty slow to avoid a breakdown on the interstate. Very scary to have this happen in interstate traffic It could have easily caused an accident. At this time, It was brought to my attention that the downshifting could also be related to technical bulletin 1495. Since we couldn’t get a real definitive answer on what was going on and the lead frame was on backorder, I decided to try and have the case connector in the bulletin removed and replaced as well as do a transmission tuneup on 10/23/24. This bill cost me $383.77. All codes were cleared and all appeared to be working correctly. On [XXX], I was driving on the interstate at about 70 mph and my truck seized up again and jerked forward, again scaring me and potentially causing an accident. I drove it very slowly directly to a repair shop. It was there until November 7, 2024 after the lead frame was replaced. That bill cost me $1321.68. I decided to file this complaint after I had seen a news article that this downshifting was being investigated for the same year as my 2015 Ford F150 for a safety issue. I bought the vehicle 3 to four weeks ago. For about a total of 6 or 7 times since I purchased the vehicle, the vehicle unexplainably goes into Limp Mode for no apparent reason. The engine is idling but will not accelerate at all, which in my case was extremely dangerous. In one instance, I was going up a mountain pass in an area that is steep with many sharp turns creating a blind turn issue. The truck suddenly went into limp mode just on the other side of a sharp turn. Vehicles behind me had absolutely no warning that I was stopped in the middle of the road. A second time, I was accelerating into heavy traffic when it occurred. This created all sorts of havoc as I tried to warn other drivers that I was disabled. THIS IS CRITICAL and needs to be investigated.

The exhaust manifold on the 2015 Ford F-150 EcoBoost engine is designed with only eight securing bolts. Owners have reported that this number of bolts is insufficient to adequately secure the manifold, leading to heat-induced warping and subsequent exhaust leaks. The leaks cause an audible whistling noise when the engine is under acceleration, which not only affects vehicle performance but may also lead to more severe engine issues if left unaddressed. Many owners of the 2015 Ford F-150 EcoBoost engine have experienced similar issues, indicating a widespread design flaw. While the immediate issue is the noise and potential performance degradation, prolonged exhaust leaks can lead to more serious problems, including increased emissions and possible engine damage. The warping of the manifold could also lead to more severe mechanical failures if not properly addressed. Detailed Description: The exhaust manifold on the 2015 Ford F-150 EcoBoost engine is designed with only eight securing bolts. Affected Population: Many owners of the 2015 Ford F-150 EcoBoost engine have experienced similar issues, indicating a widespread design flaw. My vehicle is a 4X4 Off Road F-150 crew cab. The concern is the vehicle had developed an oil leak due to the plastic oil pan developing a Crack init. Ford has issued to their dealer network a service letter describing the issue and fix. But the cost to repair this falls upon the owner to retrofit a metal oil pan. Cost for repair is approximately $1400.00. Ford put a plastic oil pan on an off road vehicle that should have never been done.

The F150 shuttered and was unable to be steered safely off the road. Warning lights flashed but as a driver I was unable to watch as traffic behind me was more important then watching F150. As a Simi was also close to me. This was a very scary event! As my husband was with me and is [XXX] he doesn't drive. Smoke came from under the vehicle. Transmission changing gears on its own while driy

Jul 1, 2024

In 2022, while behind the wheel of my 2015 F150, I would be driving down the highway (70+ mph) and the transmission would suddenly downshift to 1st gear, then jump to 3rd, and then back down to first gear, all over the place. This happened on several occasions. It was erratic, I experienced sudden changes in speed, sudden and frightening revving of the engine (especially on the highway) and on several occasions I had to make sudden changes to my driving to ensure my safety as well as the safety of others on the road. After I was able to pull over and turn my truck off, the truck would either not turn back on or take a while to be able to turn on. I had no warning that the transmission was about to shift gears and only noticed a check engine light after the incident had occurred. After taking my truck to a transmission shop and they did not find an issue with the transmission (it worked correctly while they test drove it), I took it to a Ford Dealership where I was told there was a fault with the CAM Shaft sensors. After a $3,000 repair to fix the issue, I recently found Ford has Recalled 2014 F-150s for issues that sound identical to what I was experiencing in my 2015 F-150.

The vehicle has been sent in for a loud passenger side noise while motor is started and driving. The smell of burnt oil was also an issue coming from the passenger side. Took it in and the mechanic noticed my valve cover (passenger side) is cracked. Cannot order new ones as they are on back order. The driver side has limited quantities with a wait time, and the passenger side valve covers have 0 in stock online and at the dealerships. The smell and smoke is getting progressively worse as there is no option to replace valve covers.

My 2015 Ford F-150 truck has had multiple issues related to performance issues, with only 80,000 miles on it. I have had issues with it losing power while driving, both with and without towing a trailer where it just powers down on the highway from 70-75 mph down to 40-50 mph in traffic. I usually just have to pull over, turn the engine off and then turn it back on and everything runs normal. It is currently at Phil Long Ford in Colorado Springs, CO, having the short block and driver side cylinder head replaced at 80,000 miles because it was smoking out the exhaust and they determined that it had coolant leaking into the #4 and #5 cylinders. This is after it had a completely new engine installed at 75,000 miles due to coolant leaking into the 3# cylinder and causing severe damage to the engine. It was in the repair shop from August 2023 until late December 2023 because the engines were are backorder. The Passenger side cylinder heads are currently on a 13 month backorder according to the dealership, which is why they are only replacing the short block and Driver side cylinder head this time, after only 5,000 miles on the replacement engine. I have also received multiple recall notifications regarding this vehicle, the most recent of which was on 4/22/2024 for #24E03 POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATE, none of which have been repaired during the multiple times and extended durations that my vehicle was at the Ford dealership for repairs. Two recalls existed and should have been repaired when my vehicle was at the dealership between August and December of 2023, and the most recent recall shows "No Remedy Available" for a PCM Module Software Update?

When I was driving a light came on that said low oil pressure. I checked the oil, and it was full. Driving to get it checked out the engine stopped. I had it towed to the FORD dealership. The engine failed at 81,000 on my 2015 FORD F-150. I was charged $220 for the FORD technicians to say "they do not know why the engine failed but for $16,000 they will put a new engine in." I asked for details as there is low miles on the engine. The technician said "they would be happy to tear apart the engine, for a fee, to find out." I asked about a warranty they said the motor is good for 60,000 miles after which point it is not covered. I found, on the internet, that the 2015 2.7 EcoBoost engine has problems with oil leaks and that the piston melt, fuse together and the engine stops. I also found there is a federal investigation into the 2.7 EcoBoost engine. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My latest issue is with the 2.7 ecoboost engine. I had a total failure of this engine last year and am still awaiting a replacement that I am paying for. This is unacceptable as I had this vehicle serviced according to maintenance schedule. I also have had systems report failure such as the hillside assist and the electronic parking brake. Additionally, the automatic transmission has locked up in third gear quite a few times. There are other issues such as a leaky oil pan and such.

Apr 3, 2024

This engine defect is well known to Ford ; it involves the 2015-2017 2.7 liter ecobost . These engines were produced with a faulty oil pan gasket . I just paid to replace the third oil pan . Taken in totality these leaking oil pans are a safety issue since oil is deposited on our roads leading to slick conditions and deteriorating road surfaces . Ford's most recent TSB related to this defect is TSB 24-2098 , which superceds TSB23-2330 . This defect effects thousands of Ford's 2.7 liter ecoboost engines .Please examine this safety issue . Thank you

The oil gaskets on the valve covers and oil pan are defective and leak. This causes oil to be leaked on the engine and can catch fire. Ford has stopped making the defective parts and now charging customers for the repair. If the repairs are not made, the engine fire is a probability.

During driving the engine will shut down and the truck stops. Multiple engine lights will display on the dash expressing multiple systems fails. The wrench icon will display. The safety of others and myself were put at risk due to the truck shutting off during forward movement and putting everyone at risk of a rear end crash. Yes, the issue has be reproduced and confirmed through self driving and investigation into the issues via online UTube and Ford forums. The truck has been brought to a Ford dealership for inspection. The Ford dealership has stated the the aux trans pump has failed leading to a shut down in the system and presser build up in the engine leading to failure to valve covers and oil pan expansion. Currently Ford has a service bulletin for the oil pan and the related parts that must be replaced to fix the issues, however this is still at the cost to the public when Ford is aware of the issues that cause shut down to the engine. This is on a 2015 ford F-150 XLT, 4x4, 2.7 eco boost engine.

While driving at approx 50 MPH the engine suddenly stopped and shut off. I coasted to the side. There was no ability to restart the engine. It was towed to my mechanic who informed me the engine had fully seized. Engine odometer was approx 103,000 miles at time of incident. There was a full engine oil reservoir.

My 2015 F-150 3.5L ecoboost experienced a sudden loss of power during highway speeds and shut off. I was in rush hour traffic and almost caused a few accidents as my truck seemed like it went into "limp mode". While my steering wheel was tight I managed to get off the road safely with no power whatsoever. My idiot lights were flashing like crazy and stated "Advance Trac Service" and "Hill Start assist not available". I let the truck sit for a bit and restarted it. It ran solid another 15 miles. Today I'm getting Advance Trac message: "Advance Trac Service" and "Hill Start assist not available", all while the engine check light remains on. I have read multiple issues similar to mine but there does not seem to be a recall for this. This is a VERY unsafe ordeal and very scary. Had my daughter been driving, this may have been an accident for sure. I see Ford "extended" the warranty to cover any issues. But I do not drive my truck that often and I find it hard to believe nothing is being done about the "throttle body" issue (from my reading). This is even happening to Ford trucks overseas. I get they do not have any say in the US, bu it does show this is a MAJOR issue.

PS111 Error Cody: Throttle Body Assembly is malfunctioning. My vehicle lost power steering and went into full shut down mode a dozen times over the course of driving it the latest ~500 miles with the truck shaking at a stop before restarting it and working again. Many times this could have been FATAL collisions as they happened on roads without shoulder lanes. This issue is SUPER scary to have your vehicle randomly shut off on you leaving you minimal time/distance to react and often in the middle of the road with multiple lanes. I've had it at the Ford dealership for 3.5 weeks where they are trying to fix it for $1,100, however, they said Ford currently has 15,000 of the same part on back-order. This issue should be a safety recall immediately, in addition to the shear number of the same part on back-order is clearly an indicator that Ford has an engineering issue and should be held liable to replace the part that frequently defaults at their expense but also to keep the roads safer.

REGARDING: 2015 FORD F150 WITH 20,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. -Made 1st report with NHTSA.gov as well as Ford.com back in June 2023 about the vehicle throwing codes for anti-lock brake system and communication loss of ECM/PCM. As well as, the system NOT ALLOWING the brand new battery to ever be fully charged. -Upon 1st reporting these issues, the vehicle was placed into the "Friendly Ford" service center in crosby, tx to be worked on and issues fixed. $1,376, later, we were contacted by the service center to pick the vehicle up, saying issues were now FIXED. (their prognosis: auxillary transmission pump replacement 6/19/2023) After picking vehicle up, all seemed to be running correctly. Until, the vehicle decided to do the exact same thing again...no charging the battery, not starting engine, turning itself off, ect. just got the vehicle out of the same service shop,, this time them claiming that it was now the transmission control module that needed to be replaced. this service trip costed $1490 (july27, 2023). When the service worker went out to bring the truck around for us to leave, he had to attach a battery booster to the battery, just to be able to start the vehicle....DING< DING< DING!! Not fixed......right ?! CORRECT!! it is NOT!! SO, here we are again (07/29/2023) with the code reader at Autozone saying "anti-lock brake system/ ECM/PCM (U0151-00 and U0100-00). Battery tested to be in good working order, as well as the entire starting system, itself is in complete working order. and STILL our problem persists.

My 2015 3.5l ecoboost had the Exhaust manifolds replaced back in 2018 when my truck had 51,909 miles on it and now at 90,000 miles the new manifolds warped and snapped off a stud bolt to which the American Fork Utah Ford Dealership said that since it was over a year ago even though it was a known issue that was covered under warranty I will have to pay out of pocket over $2,000 per manifold... this is a known issue with the manifold warping and causing exhaust leaks when the stud bolts snap off. Ford needs to recall this design flaw and pay for the fix.

No lights previous to incident. Sudden engine & speed malfunction . Yes, it happened multiple times heading to the ford dealer-2 mi away. We kept the hazard lights on. Sudden loss of power while driving, engine goes into limp mode, down hill assist light and altrack light comes on. Truck restarts but again limps unexpectedly. Took it to dealer -it was the throttle body that had been replaced 3 1/2 years ago by dealer.

The truck shuts off at red lights. This is NOT the feature for gas saving. The engine completely dies. This is extremely dangerous. You are stuck in running traffic until it starts back up. The ford dealer said there are no service bulletins and they've never heard of it. But the F150 forum is full of examples, and Ford is not aware or fixing the issue. This happens several times a week.

Jun 2, 2023

the truck has been acting up for several months now. it has been throwing out strange codes when attempting to start {parking brake malfunction, oil light, power train system default, ect} and often times it WILL NOT CRANK unless we hook it up to a battery charger for just a bit of time. The truck has a new battery that was installed by autozone, where it was bought {6 months ago}. Since we were in town, we stopped by autozone to get them to attach the code reader. {power train system and ABS malfunction} while driving, later in the day, the trucks auto start/stop system turns itself on and stops the truck dead in its spot.(danger: we were pulling onto the road {fm 2100} during rush hour traffic, when the trucks system went haywire and stopped us dead in our tracks in the center of both turn lanes and two of the main lanes.) there was no restarting, nor were we able to get the gear to change into neutral in order for us to be able to move it out of the main roadway. when we were finally able to move it, we hooked a fully charged jump box {one rated for up to semi truck sized vehicles} to it to get it started, and it simply would not crank for quite a while. at this time, we took the opportunity to recheck the oil level, which was set at full. After several minutes of begging "the truck" to just start so we could just take her home, it finally cranked up and home is where we took her. the truck has 19771 original miles on it. it was drove off of the show room floor, back in 2015, with 6 miles on it, and has had absolute regular maintenance and has only had one owner.

F150 starts to lose power and shudder/vibrate about 60% of the time when driving. Picking up speed, truck lost half power and engine light starting flashing. When it caught gear and speed, the light stopped flashing but the truck continues to shudder and vibrate like crazy.

The oil pan is needing to be replaced for the 3rd time in 2 years. I am told this is a very common issue and that ford just redesigned the pan. There is a waiting list and the part is backordered. Also, the cost of the repair is over $3,500 with the new part. The old part the cost to repair was $1,400. Ford has not offered to cover any of it. This is a safety hazard and a huge financial strain on families to get fixed.

May 15, 2023

While driving with my family the truck gave several error messages and a check engine light. I pulled over immediately because the truck lost power and the stability control started shaking violently. I was able to safely maneuver out of traffic, but I cannot imagine what would have happened if I was on a busy highway instead of a small side street. Apparently this is an issue that has been fairly common with Ford from what I have seen online. The vehicle is at the mechanic now for repairs. He has determined that the Throttle body needs to be replaced.

Apr 17, 2023

The exhaust manifold on the drivers side has sheared a bolt on the back of the manifold, and has warped. This is more noticeable when the engine is cold, but is also noticeable after the engine has been off for 10-15 minutes. On acceleration, there is a chirping noise that will go away when the metals have expanded and "sealed" the leak. When cold, exhaust fumes can be smelled in the cabin of the vehicle. This issue appears to be common among the truck variant of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine (11-16 F150, 15-17 Expedition/Navigator, 15+ Transit). There are numerous posts online from many different forums about this exact issue. Ford has even redesigned the manifold to include an additional stud hole, but there is no TSB or FSA from them to replace this on affected vehicles (BL3Z-9430-D, DL3Z-9431-D) This issue was determined through my own inspection of the vehicle. I can bring the vehicle into a shop for an official diagnosis if necessary. There are no warning lights or messages on my vehicle. This initially started around April 5th.

My 2015 Ford F150 has 108K miles. While driving on 2/21/23, the engine started missing, several engine warning light began illuminating. I was able to pull to the shoulder and stop the engine which was missing badly. After allowing the engine to completely stop and turning the ignition off, I allowed it to settle for a moment, then I restarted the engine. I placed it in gear and attempted to drive again, but the same missing and instrument cluster faults recurred. At this point, I had it towed to Loveland Ford, in Loveland Colorado. After evaluation, I was notified the Throttle Body had failed which also caused the instrument cluster faults. Upon reading about the Throttle Body, one of the articles indicated this has been and issue for Ford F150 years 2014 -2016 produced in Dearborn and Kansas, but that Ford had voluntarily repaired vehicles with issues via extended warranty when reported. My vehicle falls in the date range and was produced in Dearborn. This is a very dangerous condition and had this occurred on a busy highway, would be a danger to me as well as other vehicles.

Exhaust manifolds warped - Very common and expensive failure. Only 8 bolts on original manifold. When the manifolds heat and cool over time due to the turbos, they warp and break the bolts requiring extraction and replacement. Ford realized their design flaw and when the manifold inevitably warps, the replacement manifolds are now made with 9 bolts. Other aftermarket manifolds are made with 11 bolts.

Feb 13, 2023

The exhaust manifold warps under excessive heat due to the proximity of the turbochargers to the manifold in the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, causing the manifold to separate from the engine and will frequently break studs (most notably the rear stud) causing exhaust leaks, power loss, emissions problems, and can lead to mixture problems which will cause further damage to the engine if not addressed immediately. This could also lead to engine failure and crashes or fires.

Today they will not go down at all and brakes are very difficult to press. very dangerous to drive and a safety issue. I see that my VIN does not show a recall for it, but there is recall #20S31 that relates. 2-The engine has an exhaust leak while driving and it smells as though the exhaust is getting into the cab of the truck. My Ford dealer replaced the defective throttle body on my 2015 F150 Ford truck. I was charged for the repair and Ford advised me that the extended warranty on this component did not apply to my vehicle. My trucks engine completely shut down while I was driving. I was very luck I was on a back road and was able to coast until it was safe to pull off the road. After restarting my truck, in a few miles, it did the same thing. Again, I was very lucky to still be on a back road and able to coast to a safe spot to pull off the road. I restarted the truck and made it to my Ford dealer a few miles away without further incident. Both times my truck engine quit, there was a warning light on the dash board that lite during the event. I believe it said “maintenance required” but not sure. I was preoccupied looking for a safe place to pull off the road. No warning came before the event. This engine shutdown could have put myself and others in danger had it occurred on the freeway.

The exhaust manifold rear stud broke causing leaking emissions to potentially be released into the cab of the vehicle putting the driver and any passengers at risk. This is a known problem with Ford's 3.5L twin turbo eco-boost engines and they are failing to recognize this problem. The contact stated that the vehicle idled and was running rough while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle continued to run rough for 5 minutes and the contact continued driving; however, the failure reoccurred twice within 15 minutes on that same day. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

Manifold bolts have failed my 3.5L Ecoboost. Fumes are consistently entering the cabin area because they are warped and leaking. It seems like a carbon monoxide safety issue. It is definately an engineering failure because of the configuration of the bolt pattern. I understand that it is a common problem for that engine.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, an abnormal banging and crackling sound was coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to an independent mechanic and upon inspection, the mechanic determined that the vehicle had experienced engine failure. The contact was then referred to the dealer for assistance by the independent mechanic. The contact initially called North Country Ford (10401 Woodcrest Dr NW, Coon Rapids, MN) and was given a six-week estimate for an appointment. The contact then called another dealer and was given a three-week estimate for an appointment. The vehicle was then towed to that dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was also informed that the main engine bearing along with both turbochargers needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 79,689. The consumer stated the vehicle was traded in for a Dodge Ram.

After the dealer performed the 100k major service the engine began, periodically, to stall. The stall could occur while stopped (at a light or to make turn), while in park and only idling, or when the vehicle was in motion at less than 25 mph. If it stalled while starting a turn, then there was a serious risk of major collision from oncoming traffic. In said turn, more than a reasonable amount of time or distance was allowed to make the turn safely. However, if the oncoming vehicle did not recognized the vehicle was stalling, or had otherwise failed to properly evaluate the situation early enough then a collision would be likely. A scan of multiple Internet web sites found thousands of people, with model years before and after my vehicle, having the same or similar issue.

When I come to a stop, either at a red light or stop sign, and I have my foot on the brake, and come to a complete stop. The engine would idle rough and then would either die on me, or if I have time, I would put the driver selector switch into neutral and give it some gas before the engine quits. I have a OBD2 reader for my IPad, and when this happens, usually the codes P0365, or P0369 occur. I have had my truck into the shop numerous times to get fixed, and they have replaced the Cam Sensor for those P0365, and P0369 codes, but the problem still exists.

The oil pan is leaking oil and this is a prevalent problem with 2015 through 2021 years of many Ford models. The leaked oil can and is running back onto the vehicle under carrage and is a fire potential when coating the exhaust system which has high heat during operation. The problem has been reproduced and is recognized by the manufacturer. The later model years have had a redesign to attempt to correct the issue however the earlier 2015 - 2017 nothing has been done No warnings or messages are given that this issue is present. Some vehicles have had this repaired at significant cost as many as 3 times only for the issue to reappear again.

Just replace electronic throttle body for SECOND time at 106,185 miles. First time was at 38,460 miles. Both times replaced by Ford dealer at my expense. Recently contacted Ford with no response yet. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. TRUCK STALLS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. VERY DANGEROUS. I have never replaced a throttle body on any other vehicle I have owned in 45 years of driving!!

The headers are warped accoding to the Ford service garage which is a common ecoboost problem. Could cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

While driving, both around town and on the highway, all of the gears disappear from the gear cluster and when this happens my vehicle will not shift out of the gear that it is in. When pressing the gas pedal, I have had nothing happen and the vehicle shift unexpectedly or not shift at all. Instead of accelerating, it caused the rpm's to redline and I nearly went into the wall while on the highway. If the truck is turned off while the numbered gears on the cluster have disappeared then I have had problems trying to restart the truck. The truck will also have a warning pop up to "see manual" and warn you that the blind spot detection is offline. This problem has nearly caused me to be in several severe accidents and serious enough for me to spend the time typing this complaint. After diagnosis at Ford, they relayed that it is the molded lead frame for the transmission and that there are a few years models of f150 with this recall but not the 2015 year model.

Jul 26, 2021

I was driving on a city street at about 30mph up a slight incline when the truck just seem to shut off. But it didn't die, the engine was still running but barely. It was running very rough, like miss firing on several cylinders. It would not accelerate, no change of engine sound or power, the throttle was totally unresponsive. It also felt as if the brakes were being applied slightly. A message came on the dash saying something about hill assist and another wrench message. I had no chose but to pull over in traffic before it quit. This was on or about July 18 then again today on July 26. This time I was one a city street down to one lane due to construction. I was barely able to make it to a turn off before it totally quit moving, with traffic backed up behind me. I shut off the engine to let the computer reboot and got a message that hill assist was now off. After a longer than normal crank time it started and ran ok. I called Stivers Ford to make an appointment and was told it was probably a fluke, and wait and see if it did it again. I now have an appointment for August 4 to have it checked. I went on Google after the first time and found many complaints about the same situations, but with no fixes. If this were to happen under the right circumstances it could be very serious. I'm a recently retired auto technician , and shop owner of 48 years. I understand the difficulty in finding intermittent failures. But after reading all the same symtoms in Ford pickups for years it seems there should be more done from the manufacturer to address this problem.

While driving on the freeway the truck completely lost throttle, note electrical stayed and engine idled roughly during this time. Had to emergently pull to the side of the freeway while the truck coasted nearly causing several accidents and people swerved around the truck. Since this initial incident this has happened approximately 15 times on various roads and in intersections. Dealership is saying that some of the electronic throttle bodies (TSB 16-0139) were defective which causes this issue.

I WOULD HAVE TO SHUT OFF TRUCK, TURN IT BACK ON, IT WOULD RESET AND DRIVE LIKE NORMAL. TOOK TO COURTESY FORD FOUR TIMES TO DIAGNOSE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING, I BOUGHT A CODE READY AND THE TRUCK WENT INTO FAULT CODE AND SAFETY MODE AGAIN, THE CODE READ P2112. VEHICLE VIBRATED HEAVILY SLOWED DOWN IN A "CRIPPLE" MODE NO MATTER HOW HARD GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED. SHE PULLED OVER, TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND WAITED 5+ MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING. IT RE-STARTED WITH ENGINE LIGHT LIT. IN ORDER TO GET IT TO DEALER, SHE HAD TO DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES. VEHICLE DROVE OK FOR A BIT AND THEN EXHIBITED SIMILAR BEHAVIOR 4 MORE TIMES, INCLUDING ONCE GOING UP THE CONEJO GRADE BETWEEN CAMARILLO AND NEWBURY PARK WHERE A BIG RIG HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID HITTING HER WHEN THE FORD F150 SUDDENLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY SLOWED DOWN. HAD THE SEMI DRIVING NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION, HE COULD HAVE EASILY HIT HER. GOT ERROR CODES ABOUT HILL ASSIST NOT WORKING WHEN TURNING THE TRUCK BACK ON. TOOK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE HAVING EXACT SAME ISSUE AND IT THE RESOLUTION WAS REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT MIGHT BE IT BUT DIDN'T WANT TO DIAGNOSIS IT AS THAT UNTIL THEY COULD REPLICATE. AGAIN VOICED CONCERN TO THEM THAT IF THE VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY THAT COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE BUT APPEARS MULTIPLE OTHER MODELS AND YEARS HAVE HAD THIS RECALL ALREADY DONE.

ALMOST GOT HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK FROM THE REAR. TOOK IT TO FORD, FOR 2 WEEKS THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. THEY PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND SAID IT'S GOOD TO GO. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN 2 DAYS LATER WHEN I WAS CLOSE TO WORK. STOPPED BY A LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE SHOP SINCE I DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE READ THE CODE AND IT SHOWED A "P2112 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK CLOSED". I GOT A NEW THROTTLE BODY INSTALLED FOR 376$, AND NEVER HAD THE PROBLEM AGAIN. 1. 11/09/2019 VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" WHEN ENTERING THE I-84 FREEWAY FROM A FREEWAY ON-RAMP AT WOOD VILLAGE, OREGON. VEHICLE LOST POWER, WOULD NOT EXCEED 5 MPH, DASH LIGHTS (WRENCH LIGHT) CAME ON. VEHICLE PARTIALLY BLOCKED TRAFFIC AT INTERSECTION OF FREEWAY AND ON RAMP CAUSING A DANGEROUS TRAFFIC PROBLEM FOR OVER 1 HOUR BEFORE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED.. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALER. DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE NOT AVAILABLE UPON RESTART AT DEALER TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, NO REPAIR WAS MADE. HOW CAN FORD HAVE A "LIMP MODE" WHICH ESSENTIALLY SHUTS DOWN THE VEHICLE (STUTTERS, STALLS, NO POWER) WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHEN DIAGNOSTIC CODES AUTOMATICALLY RESET AT NEXT STARTUP? 2. 07/02/20 VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" WHILE DRIVING ON BUSY COUNTY ROAD NEAR MY HOME. USING COUNTY ROADS AND CITY STREETS, VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN IN "LIMP MODE" AT LOW SPEED (5 MPH OR LESS FOR 7 MILES TO FORD DEALER. OTHER VEHICLES WERE FORCED TO PASS IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, BIKE LANES WERE BLOCKED AND INTERSECTIONS WERE PARTIALLY BLOCKED BECAUSE OF THE SLOW SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS AFRAID TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT WHERE THAT ACTION CLEARED THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES. VEHICLE WAS LEFT RUNNING AT THE FORD DEALER AND REPAIRED BY THEM BY READING THE CODES AND REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY. IT IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE A FAILURE THAT INITIATES A "LIMP MODE" CONDITION THAT PLACES THE VEHICLE IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE THE UNDERLYING CONDITION CANNOT BE EASILY DIAGNOSED IF VEHICLE IS SUBSEQUENTLY RESTARTED. THIS WILL, OF COURSE HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BEING TOWED OR DRIVEN TO THE DEALER IF THE DEALER CANNOT IMMEDIATELY READ THE CODES. I FEEL THAT FORD PUT ME IN HARMS WAY TWICE DUE TO THIS FAULTY "LIMP MODE' SYSTEM. FURTHER, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE RELIABILITY OF THIS VEHICLE FOR FUTURE USE.

DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN VEHICLE ENTERS LIMP MODE WHICH DECELERATES TO 30 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE - CAR IN BACK OF ME HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND SWERVE TO AVOID HITTING ME. THE WRENCH AND LIMP MODE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. MY TRUCK DID NOT REGAIN ACCERLATION AND I HAD TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT TO THE DEALER - I FOUND OUT TODAY IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH SOUNDS AS IF THIS A VERY COMMON ISSUE BUT WITH NO RECALLS. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THAT LITTLE CAR IN BACK OF ME WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED ME, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED FOR SURE.

I PURCHASED MY 2015 F150 ABOUT A YEAR AGO. THERE IS A TSB FOR A VALVE ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. TSB STATES EMISSION RELATED WITH WARRANTY COVERED. FORD STATING IT WAS BUILT IN CANADA SO DON'T HAVE TO WARRANTY IN AMERICA. VEHICLE CUTS OUT AFTER STOPPING AND THEN ACCELERATING. HOW CAN FORD SELL A VEHICLE TO BE USED IN AMERICA WITH A KNOWN ISSUE AND NOT BE LIABLE? THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. TSB 15-0171 ENGINE CODE P2450.. PART NUMBER INVOLVED IS SAME ON CANADA OR AMERICAN VEHICLES.

WHILE IN MOTION, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON A HIGHWAY AND SOMETIMES SLOWER SPEEDS ON TOWN STREETS TOO, MY TRUCK WOULD SUDDENLY START FLASHING MULTIPLE ERRORS AND THE THROTTLE WOULD IMMEDIATELY BE UNRESPONSIVE. IN 1 SECOND I WAS DEAD IN THE WATER. THE TRUCK WOULD IMMEDIATELY START SLOWING DOWN DUE TO LACK OF PROPULSION AND THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE A VERY LOW ROUGH IDLE. THE THROTTLE WOULD NOT WORK AT ANY SPEED. THE ONLY WAY TO RECOVER CONTROL OF PROPULSION WAS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP RIGHT WHERE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED (VERY DANGEROUS), TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTART THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESTART THE PROBLEM WOULD COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR. UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM APPEARED 3 TIMES IN 1 WEEK, ALL WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING UPHILL. I WAS LUCKY TO NOT BE IN TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPORTED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY, AND THAT THIS ISSUE WAS COMMON AND THAT A RECALL WAS NOT IN PLACE. THE REPAIR COST IS OVER $500.

2015 F150 - WITHOUT WARNING - DRIVING AT 30 MPH ON A ROAD AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. HILL ASSIST CAME ON ALONG WITH SKID ANTI-SWAY MOTION AND A WRENCH APPEARED IN THE INDICATOR LIGHT. TRUCK WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT RAN UNTIL I REACHED 45 MPH ON A 4 LANE MAIN ROAD AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE AND RESTART AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY HAZARDOUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY IF I HAD BEEN ON AN INTERSTATE WITH MULTIPLE LANES. I AM SURPRISED FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS MATTER. IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ASAP - I HAVE SEEN POSTINGS WHERE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.

WHILE DRIVING ON A MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY (~7000 FT ELEVATION) IN COLORADO, MY 2015 FORD F150 SUDDENLY LOST SPEED AND VIBRATED WILDLY BEFORE STALLING COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. WHILE STOPPED, THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO VIBRATE. VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED (CHECK ENGINE, HILL ASSIST NOT WORKING, CHECK MANUAL, ETC.) AND I HAD TO TURN OFF MY TRUCK AND RE-START TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES WITHIN 2 HRS BUT THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO TRACK ADDITIONAL METRICS (BUT I MOVED OVER TO A SECONDARY ROAD WITH LITTLE TO NO TRAFFIC) TO RELOCATE TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE 3 ADDITIONAL STALL EVENTS WERE TRIGGERED BETWEEN RPMS OF 1000 AND 2000. AS I APPROACHED 2000 RPMS AND/OR CLIMBED A SLIGHT HILL, I COULD FEEL THE TRUCK BEGIN TO LOSS THROTTLE AND IF I DID NOT BACK OFF ON THE GAS PEDDLE, THE TRUCK WOULD STALL. I AM HAVING MY TRUCK TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP BUT I AM AT 36,747 MILES AND JUST BEYOND MY WARRANTY. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY DANGER SYSTEM FAILURE FOR A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE.

FINALLY, THE TRUCK STARTED RUNNING REALLY ROUGH. ALL THESE THINGS WOULD HAPPEN WHILE I WAS IN MOTION AND OR TURNING. I HAVE BEEN BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY 4 SEPARATE TIMES NOW. EVERYTHING IS REALLY RANDOM AND CAN'T BE REPLICATED. IT'S DONE THIS ABOUT 10 TIMES NOW AND THE DEALER HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN THERE FOR OVER A WEEK WITH NO REMEDY.

TYPICALLY, IT HAPPENS ONCE EVERY HUNDRED MILES OR SO AND TAKES THE GEARS FROM 5 OR 6 ALL THE WAY TO 1 OR 2 GEAR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT IS SCARY ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PULLING A CAMPER ACROSS THE WEST FOR A FEW MONTHS. FIRST THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE SO I REPLACED THAT. NOW THEY ARE SAYING THAT IT IS SPARK PLUGS. APPARENTLY, FOUR OUT OF SIX MISFIRE AT THE SAME TIME RANDOMLY WHICH THEY SAID WOULD CAUSE THE DOWNSHIFT. HOWEVER, I JUST HAD THEM REPLACED WITH NEW BOOTS THREE MONTHS AGO. THE ISSUE DID START AFTER A DEALER TRANSFLUSH BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS A COINCIDENCE OR NOT.

MY 2015 F150 WITH 100,700 MILES ON IT COMPLETELY STALLED ON ME WHILE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. I LOST ALL CONTROL AND HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AND THE TRUCK WENT INTO IDLE MODE AND WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL I PUT IN PARK AND THEN TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE TRUCK. RAN MY CODES AND NOTICED THAT IT SHOWED A P2112 CODE WHICH WAS A FAULT WITH THE THROTTLE BODY RESPONSE. THIS CAUSED MY TRUCK TO COMPLETELY LOSE ALL FUNCTION IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH CROSS TRAFFIC. LUCKILY THERE WERE PEOPLE TURNING TO PREVENT AN 18 WHEELER FROM COMING TOWARDS ME AND THE SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR THIS TO JUST SHUTDOWN LIKE THIS AND CAUSE SERIOUS DANGER FOR MYSELF AND THOSE DRIVING AROUND ME. AFTER READING ONLINE IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY'S. THIS IS NOT OK!!!! I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY MYSELF WITHOUT PAYING $800 AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE HILL START ASSIST/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON. A FEW HUNDRED MILES LATER, MORE DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND THEN ALL DASH LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER. I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. AFTER A MOMENT, IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. AFTER A FEW MORE MILES, IT DID IT AGAIN, AND THIS TIME WHEN IT POWERED DOWN, THE ABS BREAK SYSTEM WENT ON AND CREATED A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE AND BROUGHT ME TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I LIMPED IT ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, TRYING TO FIND AN EXIT, AND THE TRUCK REPEATEDLY DID THE LIGHTS FLASHING/POWER DOWN/BREAKS APPLIED SEVERAL MORE TIMES AT LOW SPEED. THE NEAREST EXIT WAS ABOUT 10 MILES, SO I HAD TO CONTINUE TO DO THIS FOR SOME TIME. ONCE I WAS AT AN EXIT, I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. WHEN I RE-CONNECTED THE BATTERY AND STARTED THE TRUCK, EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE, BUT NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I DECIDED TO JUST RISK IT AND KEEP DRIVING, SO THAT I COULD GET HOME. ABOUT 100 MILES LATER IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO HOME TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND TAKE BACK ROADS HOME. IT DID IT A FEW MORE TIMES AND THEN QUIT DOING IT. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS MY TRUCK BASICALLY STOPPED WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70 MPH, AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AND LEFT ME NO OPTION BUT TO EITHER BE BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY OR DRIVE AT VERY LOW SPEEDS ON THE SHOULDER. THE FORD DEALER THAT I TOOK THE TRUCK TO TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND ALL DIAGNOSTICS COME BACK CLEAN, SO THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO FIX ANYTHING. OTHERS ONLINE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME/SIMILAR ISSUE HAVE SAID THAT FORD SAID THAT IT IS A DAMAGED THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE DEALERSHIP THAT I WENT TO DID NOT SUGGEST THAT AS THE CAUSE.

AFTER RESEARCHING, I CAME TO FIND OUT THIS IS HAPPENING TO THOUSANDS OF FORD VEHICLES. FORD HAD A RECALL ON SOME VEHICLES FOR THIS, BUT IF YOUR MAKE AND MODEL WAS NOT ON THERE THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST. FORD KNOWS THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME (IF NOT HAPPENED ALREADY) THAT THERE WILL BE A FATALITY DUE TO THIS BODY THROTTLE ISSUE. WE AS CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT OUR VEHICLE RANDOMLY DYING ON THE ROADS, WORRY ABOUT KILLING SOMEONE ELSE OR OUR OWN FAMILIES JUST TO COMMUTE. FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.

ENGINE ABRUPTLY DROPPED TO A ROUGH IDLE WITH NO THROTTLE RESPONSE WHILE IN TRAFFIC. DISPLAY CONSOLE REPORTED 'SERVICE ADVANCETRAC' AND OTHER WARNINGS. I MANAGED TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE SAME SYMPTOM REPEATED THE NEXT DAY. THIS IS A REPEAT OF THE SAME SYMPTOM THAT OCCURRED AT ABOUT 17000 MILES. AT THAT TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY UNDER WARRANTY. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, SO I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY MYSELF AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. I SUBSEQUENTLY DISASSEMBLED THE OLD THROTTLE BODY TO SEE IF I COULD IDENTIFY THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. AS AN EXPERIENCED ELECTRONIC ENGINEER, I HAVE A BETTER SHOT AT DOING THIS THAN MANY. UPON DISASSEMBLY, I NOTICED BLACK DISCOLORATION ON THE CONNECTOR TO THE MOTOR THAT CONTROLS THE THROTTLE. THE MATERIAL OF THAT CONNECTOR APPEARS TO BE TIN OR A TIN ALLOY; THE BLACK IS LIKELY AN OXIDE THAT CAN CAUSE AN OPEN CIRCUIT. THIS LOOKS LIKE A PHENOMENON CALLED 'FRETTING' THAT CAN OCCUR IN CONNECTORS WHEN VIBRATION IS PRESENT. THE USUAL FIX IS TO CHANGE TO GOLD PLATED CONTACTS, AND/OR ENSURE CONTINUED LUBRICATION OF THE CONTACTS. I'VE ATTACHED AN ARTICLE ON 'FRETTING' FOR REFERENCE. BASED ON THE FACT THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT PERMANENTLY FIXED BY THE FIRST REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY, IT APPEARS THAT FORD HAS NOT IMPLEMENTED A DESIGN CHANGE TO MANAGE IT. IT'S LIKELY THAT THE PROBLEM WILL RECUR AND REQUIRE REPEATED FIXES. THIS IS DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO COAST TO A SAFE LOCATION WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING ENGINE.

WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY CUT TO A ROUGH IDLE AND THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. WARNINGS TO SERVICE ADVANCETRAC AND HILL START ASSIST POPPED UP. I COASTED TO A STOP, WHICH WAS DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, THEN RESTARTED TWICE AND VEHICLE THEN BEHAVED NORMALLY. THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY. THIS IS A REPEAT OF A PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE TRUCK AND THAT WAS FIXED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS TIME I BOUGHT AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY MYSELF AND HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. LOSS OF ENGINE POWER IN TRAFFIC IS A DANGEROUS EVENT. THE FACT THAT THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY IN MY VEHICLE SUGGESTS THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT UNDER CONTROL BY THE MANUFACTURER.

SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THAT OCCURRING I WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING WARNING INDICATORS "HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" THEN ANOTHER WARNING "HILL DESCENT CONTROL FAULT" THEN ANOTHER WARNING "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" THEN "SEE MANUAL". THIS HAPPENS TYPICALLY WHILE ACCELERATING AND HAS OCCURRED ON CITY STREETS AS WELL AS WHILE MERGING ON A HIGHWAY ON RAMP (BAD SITUATION). THE RESOLUTION IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AN LET IT SIT FOR A SECOND THEN START IT AND DRIVE SLOWLY. 2015 FORD F-150 ECOBOOST, BOUGHT APRIL 2018 WITH APPROX. 67,000 MILES, CURRENTLY AT APPROX. 75,000 MILES. I AM REPORTING THE SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATING POWER AS THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND STALLS BOTH WHEN MOVING WITH TRAFFIC OR ACCELERATING TO ENTER OR MOVE WITH TRAFFIC. MULTIPLE WARNING MESSAGES INCLUDING THE WRENCH LIGHT FLASH IN THE DASH MESSAGE AREA AS THE ENGINE SLOWS TO IDLE WITH NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND COMES TO A STUTTERING STOP. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS THREE WEEKS AGO AND HAS HAPPENED NO LESS THAN SIX TIME SINCE - TWICE WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO THE FREEWAY (VERY BUSY, VERY FAST TRAFFIC) AND TWICE WHILE CROSSING OR TURNING IN MULTI-LANE INTERSECTIONS FROM STOPPED. FOUR OF THE SIX TIMES RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE DYING IN AND OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC WITH AND ME BARELY GETTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. I NOW SHIFT TO NEUTRAL TO LET MOMENTUM MOVE THE VEHICLE AS I WORM THROUGH TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHUTTING OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE CLEARS OR RESETS THE MESSAGE AND SOMETIMES "DOWNHILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BOTH STAYED ON OR SHUT OFF ON RESTART. I CAN THEN DRIVE ON THE VEHICLE'S OWN POWER, THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAS REPEATED AS SOON AS TWO MINUTES LATER, OR NOT FOR DAYS. I HAVE NOT HAD TO BE TOWED AND NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED. THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMER'S COUNCIL FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD IN 2015 WHICH WAS SETTLED WITH FORD OFFERING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY ON THE ETB (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) OF CERTAIN MODEL VEHICLES - ALL WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE, AND MULTIPLE CUSTOMER SERVICE ACTIONS (CSA'S) THAT HAVE SINCE EXPIRED. WHILE DRIVING THERE IS RATTLING INSIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN THAT STARTED A FEW MONTHS BACK. NOW MY ALTERNATOR SEEMS TO NOT BE WORKING PROPERLY AND THE TRUCK WILL ONLY CRANK WHEN I HAVE ALL EXTRAS OFF (RADIO, AC, ETC.) I ALSO HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS FOR SOME REASON FOR IT TO TURN OVER COMPLETELY. OTHERWISE IT JUST DIES. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL LAST WEEK WHEN IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER AT ALL. MY BATTERY IS PULLING 13.9 V AND I HAVE CHECKED THE CONNECTIONS. FOR A TRUCK TO BE 3 YEARS OLD AND ALREADY NEED A NEW ALTERNATOR APPALLS ME. THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON AND THE RATTLING IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS SOMEHOW RELATED TO ME HAVING PROBLEMS CRANKING THE TRUCK.

2015 F150 2.7L ECOBOOST 31,908 MILES... UPON MERGING INTO TRAFFIC TRUCK SUDDENLY SURGES, FOLLOWED BY AUDIBLE BANG THEN ABRUPTLY LOSES ALL POWER "NO DRIVING CONDITIONS OUT OF THE ORDINARY, NOT UNDER HARD ACCELERATION." WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHT UP AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. LUCKILY I WAS FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE MUCH TRAFFIC AROUND ME AT THE TIME AND PROMPTLY COASTED INTO A DESERTED PARKING LOT TO CALL MY DEALERSHIP. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY TRUCK NOW FOR FEAR OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL FAILURE, I DON'T WANT TO DIE AND DON'T WANT TO PUT ANYONE IT THAT POSITION EITHER. DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND SAYS ITS OK TO DRIVE YET THE THROTTLE BODY THEY USED AS A REPLACEMENT IS NO DIFFERENT THEN THE ONE THAT FAILED HOW CAN THAT BE SAFE? I'D LIKE THEM TO TRUST A TRUCK THAT CEASED ALL ESSENTIAL OPERATIONS (BRAKES, ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING) WITH A WIFE AND KIDS IN THE VEHICLE DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR IN THE FOURTH LARGEST CITY IN THE UNITED STATES WITH SPEEDING DRIVERS WHO DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD IN FRONT OF THEM, THEN WE WILL TALK. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MANY OTHER FORD VEHICLES!!! FIX IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR DIES AS A RESULT! DO THE RIGHT THING AND HOLD THE MANUFACTURES RESPONSIBLE ITS WHY WE HAVE THE NHTSA. HOW IS THERE NOT A MASSIVE RECALL WITH THE ECO BOOST ENGINES IN REGARDS TO THE FAULTY THROTTLE BODY, ANYTHING LESS IS UNACCEPTABLE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FIRST?

AT TIMES MY 2015 F150 LOSES ALL POWER AND GO TO A LOW POWER/ "LIMP MODE" SETTING. CAUTIONS RECEIVED ARE (1) SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC, (2) HILL DESCENT CONTROL FAULT, (3) HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAIL, (4) TRAACTION CONTROL FAULT LIGHT. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE VEHICLE GOES TO A VERY LOW FORWARD POWER SETTING (<5MPH), RUNS EXTREMELY ROUGH TO THE POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE SHAKES AGGRESSIVELY. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT IN NATURE, AND YESTERDAY WAS THE FINAL STRAW. THIS SUDDENT OSS OF POWER OCCURRED ON A BUSY ROAD AND I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED. I IMMEDIATELY LIMPED OFF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN CASTLE ROCK, CO. CURRENTLY I'M STANDING BY FOR THE MECHANICS DIAGNOSIS. OF NOTE, I DO SEE SEVERAL SIMILAR WRITE-UPS OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE NHTSA SITE REGARDING THE 2015 F150. IRONICALLY, A SIMILAR OCCURRENCE (REF. NHSTSA ID#11083485) HAPPENED RIGHT UP THE ROAD FROM ME IN CASTLE ROCK, CO (4/5/18). I HOPE FORD IS AWARE OF THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, RECURRING PROBLEM WITHIN ITS F150 FLEET.

THERE IS STILL AN UNDERLYING ISSUE, AS I AM TOLD BY MY FORD SERVICE WRITER, THE ETB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND FROM WHAT I SEE ONLINE THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE WITH THE ETB AND F150. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN AND I WAS FORTUNATE I WAS NOT TOWING MY TRAVEL TRAILER AT TIME WHICH COULD HAVE HAD MAJOR ISSUE GETTING TO SIDE OF FREEWAY SAFELY WITHOUT POWER, IF NOT REAR ENDED. WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK IT BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND THEN THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY. I WAS JUST SHY OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND HAD NO POWER. THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS "DRIVER HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" WHICH DID NOT CORRELATE TO THE PROBLEM AT ALL. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER THEY FOUND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) HAD FAILED. I HAVE 50,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE SHOP SAID THAT THEY NORMALLY DO NOT STOCK MANY PARTS BUT THIS WAS ONE THEY ALWAYS KEEP IN STOCK. THE TECHNICIAN CLAIMED HE HAD SEEN 20+ FAILURES IN THE FAST YEAR. RESEARCH ON LINE INDICATED THAT THERE IS MORE THAN 60,000 COMPLAINTS IN FORD VEHICLES REGARDING THE FAILURE OF THIS ETB. THERE WAS ACTION INITIATED BY THE NHTS AND A RECALL WAS WAIVED PROVIDED THAT FORD EXTEND WARRANTY FOR THIS PART. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN IN MY CASE. MY BILL WAS $604.92 MORE IMPORTANTLY I COULD HAVE LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT INTERSECTION OR DURING A LONG DRIVE HOME WHERE NO CELL RECEPTION WAS POSSIBLE. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BROKEN DOWN IN A TOWN WITH A FORD SERVICE CENTER BEFORE MY 3.5 HOUR TRIP BACK TO DENVER. FYI, I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY SAID THAT I WAS NOT PART OF A "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM"... INTERESTING CHOICE OF WORDS, BECAUSE I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I WAS PART OF ANYTHING AT FORD NOR WERE THEY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IN FACT, THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOT A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM.

SCHEDULED SERVICE TODAY FOR NOISE; THEY WERE MORE INTERESTED IN FIXING RECALL ITEM [LOCKS - RPR TIME 3+HRS], IF THEY HAD PARTS IN STOCK. RECALL SRVC COMPLETED [UNDER 1 HR], AND "NO NOISE WAS HEARD." AS I PULLED AWAY FROM DEALERSHIP, HAVING SIGNED OFF ON SERVICE, THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY BEGAN MAKING THE NOISE [FUNNY SERV ADVSR DIDN'T HEAR WHEN HE BROUGHT TRUCK AROUND?]. I DROVE LESS THAN 1/10 MILE BACK TO DEALERSHIP, TOOK THE SERVICE ADVISOR FOR RIDE; AT WHICH POINT HE ACKNOWLEDGED HE HEARD NOISE, BUT TRIED TO ASSURE ME IT'S A 'TIRE ISSUE.' MY HUSBAND AND I BELIEVE OTHERWISE - THIS IS NOT TIRE NOISE, THE NOISE NEVER CRESCENDOS OR CHANGES PITCH WITH INCREASE OR DECREASE SPEED, ON GRAVEL OR ASPHALT, AND WE HAVE NEVER FELT 'TIRE NOISE' IN BRAKE PEDAL. THIS NOISE/FRICTION MERELY CEASES AFTER YOU'VE DRIVEN A FEW MINUTES [FOR NOW]. SERVICE ADVISOR ASSURED ME I WAS NOT DOING ANY FURTHER DAMAGE TO TRUCK, CONTINUING TO DRIVE IT WITHOUT RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. I ASKED HIM IF I NEEDED NEW TIRES, HE SAID INDEED NOT, MINE ARE IN GREAT SHAPE [ORIGINAL TIRES] WITH 63,000 MILES ON THEM [BUT IT'S A TIRE ISSUE?]. I HAVE A 2015 F150 KING RANCH WITH THE 3.5L ECOBOOST. IT HAS 41,000 MILES AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL YESTERDAY MORNING AND TODAY AROUND LUNCH. THIS WAS FROM YESTERDAY 10/23/17: HILL DESCENT CONTROL FAULT SERVICE ADVANCETRAC HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE I WAS PULLING OUT ONTO A HIGHWAY AND THE TRUCK BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY, MOVING VERY SLOW WITH NO ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING WAS LOST, AND THE DASHBOARD WAS SHOWING ALL THE ABOVE ERRORS. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES COMING WHEN I ENTERED THE HIGHWAY AND THERE WAS A PLACE TO SAFELY PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK CONTINUES TO IDLE ROUGH AND SHAKE VIOLENTLY. AND TODAY 10/24/17: I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH WHEN THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING AS YESTERDAY MORNING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND SHUT OFF THE MOTOR. ONCE I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT WOULD BE DOING THIS AND HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM FORD OR SEEN THIS IN OTHER F150'S THEY HAVE SERVICED. UPDATE: THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THE FIX IS IN A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND THEY REPLACED IT AT A WHOPPING PRICE OF $770. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS FORD HAS ISSUES WITH ETB'S ACROSS VEHICLES OF ALL CLASSES AND KNOWS ABOUT IT. IN FACT, SOME CONSUMERS SEEM TO BE INVOLVED IN LAWSUITS AGAINST FORD BECAUSE OF THEIR UNWILLINGNESS TO ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS FATALLY INJURED. THESE WERE SCARY, SCARY SITUATIONS WITH MY VEHICLE AND THANK GOD MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE NOT WITH ME. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT IT AT THEIR EXPENSE.

DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY CAUSING "LIMP HOME" MODE . ON FRIDAY 10/28 WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 55 MILES/HOUR AT APPROXIMATELY 6:30PM WITH VEHICLES AHEAD OF AND BEHIND MY TRUCK, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO GIVE A NUMBER OF CHECK ENGINE ALERTS, AT WHICH TIME THE ENGINE RPMS DROPPED TO VERY LOW LEVELS AND BEGAN TO STALL AND THE ACCELERATOR NO LONGER RESPONDED. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WITHIN THE HOUR. I WAS VERY LUCKY IN THIS SITUATION, FOR HAD I BEEN IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA OR ON A BRIDGE, THE SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THIS SAME SITUATION OCCURRED ON THE EVENING OF 10/2 WHILE DRIVING 40MPH DOWN A STATE ROAD NEAR MY HOME AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALER WHO ATTENDED TO THE ISSUE, THE BRAKE MODULE HAD FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE SYMPTOMS TO ARISE. IN THAT INSTANCE, THE ACCELERATE FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL, WHICH IT DID WHEN I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THEY REPLACED THE MODULE A FEW DAYS LATER. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR VIBRATES AND DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY. TWO DEALERS HAVE FAILED TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE TO DATE AND I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT HAS LARGELY BEEN DISMISSED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS AND DEALERSHIPS INVOLVED. DESPITE NUMEROUS DOCUMENTED ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY HAVE IGNORED THIS CONCERN, HAVE FAILED TO RESPOND TO ME IN A TIMELY MANNER, AND DECLINED A BUYBACK REQUEST. I AM SUBMITTING LEMON LAW DOCUMENTATION FOR THE VEHICLE DURING THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 31. I HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON RENTAL VEHICLES DURING ATTEMPTED REPAIRS TO THE DOORS AND THE BRAKE MODULE SINCE FORD CLAIMS THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF RENTAL VEHICLES DURING WARRANTY REPAIRS. REPAIR DOCUMENTATION ATTACHED PERTAINS TO REPAIRS FOR 10/2 OCCURRENCE SINCE THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT YET HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS DROPPED OFF YESTERDAY EVENING. DRIVING THE FORD F150 (V6 ECOBOOST) ON A CITY STREET (35 MPH) IT HAS FAILED AT RANDOM TIMES (I'VE NOW SEEN THIS ISSUE MORE THAN 3 TIMES) USUALLY WITH 3 MAJOR FAILURES. THESE 3 FAILURES (1) ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AND EMISSIONS 2) BRAKES & SUSPENSION 3) RESTRATINS & DRIVER ASSISTANCE) CAUSE THE TRUCK TO TRANSITION TO 'LIMP' MODE WHICH CAN ACTUALLY BE JUST AS HAZARDOUS. IF I'M TURNING ONTO A ROAD WITH A 55+ MPH SPEED LIMIT I NEED TO ACCELERATE BUT IF THIS SYSTEM FAILS, ALONG WITH THE RESTRAINTS & DRIVER ASSISTANCE, THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THE REASON WHY IS THAT THE RESTRAINTS & DRIVER ASSISTANCE GOES OFF NOW DISABLING MY AIRBAGS, ETC. AND IF I NOW GET HIT (BECAUSE NOW I'M IN LIMP MODE GOING ABOUT 7 MPH) I HAVE LOST A GREAT DEAL OF 'BUILT-IN' PROTECTION WITHOUT THE AIRBAGS. TRANSLATE THAT TO DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND ENCOUNTERING THIS SITUATION AND YOU CAN SEE THAT LOSS OF LIFE IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. I'VE TAKEN THE TRUCK BACK TO FORD FOR THE WARRANTY WORK AND THEY SAY THEY BELIEVE IT'S AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY CONTROLLER THAT HAS GONE BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT RIGHT NOW IT'S AT LEAST 3 WEEKS BEFORE THEY CAN GET A REPLACEMENT PART. COMPOUNDING THIS ISSUE IS THAT FORD HAD ISSUED AN INTERNAL RECALL FOR V8'S BUILT AT THE SAME PLANT AS MY V6 ECOBOOST TRUCK FOR THE SAME TYPE OF ISSUE.

THE ISSUES STARTED AROUND MID JULY 2016 WITH ABOUT 11-12K MILES. I WAS TURNING ONTO A SIDE ROAD WHERE DOING MAYBE 10 MPH AND THE ENGINE STALLED, IT RESTARTED WHILE IN MOTION AND I CONTINUED. THE HILL START ASSIST AND ADVANCE TRAC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. LATER THAT WEEK IT HAPPENED REPEATEDLY. THE DEALERSHIP HERE IN TOWN (NOT WHERE I BOUGHT IT) LOOKED AT IT FOR A FEW DAYS, THEY THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE OF, "ALL THE AFTER MARKET STUFF (RADIO ETC) I HAD (PROFESSIONALLY) INSTALLED". THEY BELIEVED IT WAS THE POWER CONVERTER SO THEY REPLACED THE CONVERTER WHEN IT CAME IN (THE 110V CONVERTER) I GOT MY STEREO STUFF RECONNECTED AND KEPT DRIVING IT. THEN THE ENGINE WOULD NOT STALL, BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ADVANCE TRAC AND HILL ASSIST. AFTER A FEW DAYS, IT BEGAN TO STALL AGAIN, ALMOST GETTING ME HIT PULLING ONTO A ROAD WITH 50MPH TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK DIED, AND WOULDN'T "RESTART" ITSELF. SO HERE I AM PARKED ON A TWO MULTILANE 50MPH ROADWAY TRYING TO START MY TRUCK WITHOUT GETTING KILLED. IT ALSO HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE PULLING OFF THIS SAME ROAD INTO A SIDE STREET WITH A BIG ASS RV COMING AT ME, I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO THE SIDE STREET AND THEN RESTART THE TRUCK. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK IN AND THEY SAID THAT IT MIGHT BE THE THROTTLE BODY. SO, I GOT MY TRUCK BACK TODAY WITH THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. I GO TO DRIVE AWAY AND MY HEAD UNIT/ DISPLAY WILL NOT ILLUMINATE PROPERLY. I THOUGHT IT WAS DIMMED, BUT IT WASN'T. SO I DRIVE IN A CIRCLE TO BRING IT BACK AND IT ILLUMINATES LIKE IT SHOULD. SO I LEAVE AND I DRIVE BACK DOWN THE MAIN 50 MPH ROAD AND WHILE ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT THERE, THE ADVANCE TRAC AND HILL ASSIST LIGHTS FLASH ON AGAIN. I TAKE IT RIGHT BACK AND IT IS NOW THERE GETTING LOOKED AT AGAIN.

THROTTLE BODY FAILURE - 2015, F150 IN MOTION, STOPPING FOR RED LIGHT. FOLLOWING RED LIGHT TRUCK HAD MINIMAL POWER, JUST ENOUGH TO LIMP TO SIDE OF ROAD. THANKFULLY NOT IN ATLANTA, GA TRAFFIC BUT DAYTON, TN TRAFFIC. TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED ENGINE AND DROVE 2 BLOCKS TO FORD DEALERSHIP "SERVICE DEPARTMENT" WHERE I PURCHASED THE NEW F150 XL 6 MONTHS EARLIER (12,000 MILES). TOLD SERVICE MANAGER WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ALONG WITH ADVANCE TRAC WARNING LIGHT. SERVICE TECHNICIANS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM ON COMPUTER OR TEST DRIVES. EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM BEFORE "FORD MOTOR COMPANY " WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM TO REPAIR IT UNLESS THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER FOR EAST TENNESSEE, I STATED TO HER THIS WAS NOT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP PROBLEM, FINANCIAL PROBLEM OR WAS IT A WARRANTY PROBLEM (12K OF 36K). THIS WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM. AGAIN SHE STATED IF THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE IT BY DRIVING OR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST THEY COULDN'T FIX IT. I ALSO SPOKE TO HER SUPERIOR HE APOLOGIZED BUT THEY CANNOT FIX A PROBLEM THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE. AFTER THREATENING A TO CONTACT MY LAWYER, WHICH DID NOT PHASE HER. I PICKED UP MY TRUCK AND WAS HEADING TO ANOTHER LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO TRADE IT IN, BECAUSE FORD SAID THEIR WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH IT. WHEN IT "DUPLICATED" THE SAME PROBLEM WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. IT IS NOW BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP, AFTER A TECHNICIAN WAS SENT TO HOOK UP A COMPUTER WHILE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ALONG SIDE THE ROAD. HAD TO USE ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET BACK. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD. MY BELIEF AFTER READING OTHER POST ON THIS SITE FORD DOES NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OR SAFETY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY DECELERATED. THE WRENCH AND LIMP MODE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST ON TO THE ROAD SHOULDER AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE HOWEVER; THE VEHICLE DID NOT REGAIN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHOM PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED WHILE TRAVELING ON I-94 IN A SINGLE LANE CONSTRUCTION ZONE DURING A SEVERE RAINSTORM. THE THROTTLE BODY IS A PART THAT CONTROLS THE AIR INTAKE ON THE ENGINE AND WHEN IT FAILS THE ENGINE LOSES POWER AND CANNOT PULL A TRAILER. THE ENGINE DOES NOT STALL, BUT IT DOES SHUDDER ENOUGH TO SHAKE THE VEHICLE. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND UPON RESTART COULD MOVE OUT OF TRAFFIC. THIS OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES TILL I COULD MAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THE PART IS BACKORDERED DUE TO DEMAND. WHEN THIS PART FAILS IT COULD PUT THE DRIVER AND OTHER VEHICLES IN A LIFE SITUATION AS I WAS WITHOUT AN AREA TO PULL OFF AND SEMIS ON THE ROAD WITH POOR VISIBILITY. I HAVE BEEN WAITING AT A DEALERSHIP FOR 3 DAYS FOR THE PART STUCK IN MY TRAILER AND NO KNOWN TIMEFRAME FOR WHEN THE PART WILL ARRIVE. LEARNED THIS MORNING THAT THE PART WAS SHIPPING WAS CANADA, BUT NO DELIVERY TIMEFRAME.

10,600 MILES ON THIS NEW 2015 FORD F-150 ECOBOOST 3.7 ENGINE. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT 5:15PM ON HIGHWAY 84, THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER AND COASTED TO A STOP IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK SHOOK AND VIBRATED, THE ENGINE LIGHT, ANTI SLIP AND TOOL ICON LIGHT ALL CAME ON. THE TRUCK SHOWED THE ENGINE WAS AT 1000 RPM BUT WOULD NOT MOVE OR REACT TO MY PUSHING THE GAS PETAL. I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF AND THE TRUCK AND RESTART TO GET MOVING AGAIN BEFORE IT REPEATED THE SAME EVENTS 5 MORE TIMES. I WAS ABLE TO GET ON A SERVICE ROAD AND LIMP I THE TRUCK HOME. THE TRUCK DYING WITH HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS DEADLY. $45,000 2015 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW 4X4 10,600 MILES

WINDSHIELD COWL PANELS LEAK RAIN WATER INTO TOP OF THE ENGINE WHERE THE TWO COWL PIECES MEET IN THE MIDDLE. I SUSPECT LOOKING AT OTHER 2015 AND 2016 F150 MODELS THEY HAVE OR WILL HAVE THE ISSUE OF LEAKING WATER ONTO THE ENGINE. BESIDES POSSIBLE CORROSION OR DAMAGE TO ENGINE, THIS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL AND MAYBE A SAFETY PROBLEM.

TRUCK SHUDDERS AS TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ATTEMPTS TO LOCK UP IN THIRD AND FIFTH GEAR AT LIGHT THROTTLE POSITION WHEN SHIFTING UPWARD. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 2.7L ENGINE WITH THE AUTO STOP/START FEATURE. WITH THIS FEATURE DISABLED THE ENGINE ATTEMPTS TO STALL AFTER STOPPING AS IF THE FEATURE IS TRYING TO OVERRIDE THE OFF SWITCH. AFTER COMING TO A ROLLING STOP AND THEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC THE ENGINE WILL BOG DOWN AND THEN A SPLIT SECOND LATER FEEL AS IF IT IS GOING TO FULL THROTTLE WITHOUT ME DEPRESSING THE THROTTLE FURTHER. THE ENGINE SPEED SURGES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LIGHTLY ACCELERATE AND MAINTAIN SPEED WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. -FORD NEEDS TO GIVE OWNERS THE OPTION TO TURN OFF THE AUTO STOP/START PERMANENTLY. I WAS NOT INFORMED THIS FEATURE COULD NOT BE REMOVED WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO SHUT IT OFF AND ONLY SUCCEEDED IN DISABLING THE REMOTE START FEATURE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THE AUTO STOP/START ANNOYANCE.

NEW 2015 F150 WITH A VIBRATION/ SHUDDER COMING FROM WHAT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSFER CASE OR POSSIBLY THE DRIVE SHAFT. HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT FROM GEAR TO GEAR, AND ON INCLINES...FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN JUST CRUISING AT CERTAIN SPEEDS. I'VE HAD IT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY SAY EVERYTHING IS FINE BUT THEY HAVE FELT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND ONES ON THEIR LOT. VIBRATION COULD LEAD TO MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM AND ACTUALLY STALL THE VEHICLE WHILE IN TRAFFIC.

THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 'STOP/START FEATURE;' WHICH ACTUALLY SHUTS OFF THE ENGINE WHEN AT A STOP AND IS SUPPOSED TO 'RESTART' WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED; THE 'ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS' ARE SUPPOSED TO BE OPERATIVE; HOW POWER BRAKES ARE 'ELECTRICALLY OPERATED' IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION; HOWEVER, A FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASE I WAS AT A STOP LITE WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, AND EVENTUALLY RE-STARTED' BY ITSELF; THE DEALER SALES STAFF NEVER INFORMED ME OF THIS 'FEATURE,' AND ALSO DID NOT TELL ME THERE WAS AN 'OVERRIDE SWITCH ON THE DASH; THE FACT THAT I DID NOT OVERRIDE IT, AND THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT RESTART WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, TO ME MEANS THAT THIS 'FEATURE' IS, ON THIS VEHICLE, INOPERATIVE, AND THEREFORE INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING; MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE IT, AND IT WAS TOWED IN TO THE DEALER ON 12/21/15, WHERE IT REMAINS; I REFUSE TO DRIVE IT AS WELL; LASTLY, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED NO 'STOP/START FEATURE' UPON A PRE-PURCHASE TEST DRIVE WITH THE SALESMAN IN WHICH WE MADE NUMEROUS 'STOPS' AND A FRIEND OF MINE WAS WITH ME ON THAT TEST DRIVE, WHO WILL ATTEST TO THIS FACT; LIKEWISE, IT DID NOT HAVE ANY 'PROBLEMS' UNTIL ALMOST THREE WEEKS LATER, DURING WHICH TIME I DROVE THE VEHICLE DAILY.

TOTAL LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. AT 3022 MILES THE ENGINE CUT OFF WHILE AT 40-50MPH. A SMART DATA LINK WAS REPLACED. AT 3619 MILES THE ENGINE CUT OFF AGAIN WHILE ACCELERATING AT 40-50 MPH. BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF STARTING THE ENGINE. SEVERAL ALERTS POP UP ON THE SCREEN TO INCLUDE LOSS OF BRAKING, HILL ASSIST, AND SERVICE ENGINE. FIRST REPAIR WAS FOR 10 DAYS. CURRENT REPAIR IS 3 DAYS AND COUNTING. CURRENTLY I AM AWARE OF ANOTHER F150 WITH THE ECOBOOST 2.7 ENGINE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO FIX.

AFTER MORNING STARTUP, VEHICLE STUMBLED, HESITATED ON ACCELERATION INTO TRAFFIC. VEHICLE STALLED AFTER APPROXIMATELY DRIVING 1 MILE. WOULD RE-START, ONLY IDLE, THEN STALL WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED TO RE-ENTER TRAFFIC. I HAD TOWED TO CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS. MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED OVER TWO WEEKS LATER. THE SERVICE INVOICE OUTLINED THAT THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS FOUND BAD, SHORTED AND CONNECTING PLUG TO HARNESS MELTED. THEY REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND REPAIRED HARNESS PLUG. VEHICLE WAS NOT FIXED. OVER THE TWO WEEK PERIOD THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER, BODY CONTROL MODULE, AND LAST THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS THE MELTED FUEL PUMP PLUG. I WOULD THINK THERE WOULD BE ADEQUATE FUSIBLE LINK PROTECTION TO KEEP THIS KIND OF PROBLEM FROM HAPPENING ESPECIALLY WHEN AFFECTING AN IN TANK FUEL PUMP. THIS MIGHT LEAD TO FUEL FIRES AND ALSO ACCIDENTS DUE TO LOSS OF POWER FROM THE ENGINE. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO SAFELY GET MY VEHICLE ON THE ROAD SHOULDER, AND THEN ONTO A SIDE STREET WITH MINIMAL TRAFFIC. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THAT ONE DEVICE FAILURE CREATING FAILURES IN MULTIPLE VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS THAT WOULD COST THE CONSUMER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OUT OF WARRANTY TO REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT A FORD FIELD ENGINEER WAS SENT TO ASSIST THE DEALERSHIP, AFTER HIS VISIT, THE ECM WAS REPLACED WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. ADEQUATE OVERCURRENT PROTECTION ON THE FUEL PUMP SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED DAMAGING THE OTHER CRITICAL PARTS. FORD HAS PUT A LOT OF THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH THE FUEL EFFICIENCY NEW ENGINEERING AS A MAJOR MARKETING TOOL. I FEAR THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN RUSHED TO PRODUCTION WITH INHERENT FLAWS THAT COULD BE A DANGER TO OWNERS AND THE PUBLIC.
