2017 f150 with only 48,330 original miles. Having issues with transmission stalling, jerking in between gears. After last night I have had enough due to an almost potentially fatal accident. While making a left hand turn the transmission stalled for way too long and an 18 wheeler came over the hill ( it’s a blind spot turn) and came very close to hitting me broad side of my truck. This issue could have costed me my life. The transmission fluid is fine as it was checked very recently at my last service less than 100 miles ago. The dealership wants 200 dollars just to hook it up to a computer just to see if the TCM is showing any codes. I have already had that checked for free somewhere else and it is not. The dealership will not do anything unless I pay for that to be done first. I cannot afford to give away 200 dollars for free. But if I give them 200 dollars then they can give me an estimate for repair that ranges from 1000 to 10,000 dollars which is what other customers have paid or been taken advantage of for that amount.

Transmission seems to be faulty. While accelerating the transmission will shift from 4th gear to 1st gear then up to 3rd gear. Sometimes it will return to normal operation at the point, sometimes it will continue to shift up and down at random. I have been told by the shop (more than 1) that the transmission is fine. This random and hard down shifting cause the vehicle to lose speed which is very unsafe. I first noticed the problem about 6 months after I purchased the truck (Oct. of 2024) as a hesitation when shifting from 3rd to 4th. This is an ongoing problem that continues to worsen as time goes on. Currently the vehicle is available with reasonable accommodations to be inspected.

While driving ~70mph on I-80 in central Wyoming, my truck suddenly and unexpectedly downshifted to a low gear, causing RPMs to spike to 8000+ and making me swerve and nearly go off the road. No warning lights or cautions appeared. I pulled over, turned off the ignition, and checked my engine compartment to see if I could find any issues but everything appeared normal. I resumed driving and everything felt normal. Approximately 100 miles later a check engine light appeared. No other cautions or messages appeared. My transmission and engine oil temperature gauges showed readings in the middle of the normal range. I was 10 miles from the nearest town and immediately stopped at a mechanic shop to diagnose the issue. After several days trying to diagnose the issue, they told me that my transmission had severely overheated, was near failure, and needed to be replaced. I had a regular transmission service less than 12 months prior at a Ford dealership and no issues were noted. I am writing this because I am aware of many other F-150 owners experiencing similar problems and I believe Ford needs to address this clearly systemic issue with the 10R80 transmission.

The powertrain/transmission is not receiving the signal from the engine to accelerate. It can be inspected. The vehicle is slow to accelerate or will not accelerate at all, causing lurching motions and slow movement of the vehicle. This can cause my vehicle to rapidly accelerate or me to slowly decelerate, causing me to possibly run into others or be hit by others. No one has reproduced or assessed the problem. The problem occurred multiple times before a warning message was displayed. The signal appeared after two weeks of the failure occuring.

In June 2025 and again in December 2025, when my truck stopped at a Red Traffic Light and I applied my brakes to stop the vehicle, my two rear wheels/tires started to spin rapidly non-stop for 60 seconds or the duration of the traffic light, causing a great deal of smoke and noise. My truck acted like a "Drag Racing" machine on a short track revving its engine and spinning its tires for a very short burst of speed down the track. Cars behind me kept their distance and I thought my truck would bolt forward at any time causing a serious accident. I applied my brakes as firmly as possible, praying my truck would not lose control and bolt forward into the lane of traffic. In June, my mechanic thoroughly inspected my vehicle for four hours, going on a test drive, pulled off all the wheels and checked every pertinent component, ran 3 diagnostic code assessments and found nothing. When it happened again on December 11, 2025, I contacted another mechanic who told me he could not address the issue since it was a known Ford Issue and to contact NHTSA and Ford (PE25-002). Finally, there were no warning lights on my dashboard when it happened during these two incidents.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to second or third gear. The contact stated that the vehicle felt like the brake pedal was depressed, and the engine revved to over 5,000 RPMs. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle shuddered, and felt like the vehicle was being driven over rumble strips on the roadway. The contact stated that the unexpected downshifts only occurred while driving approximately 60-70 MPH. The contact was able to reset the transmission by turning off and restarting the vehicle initially; however, the failure reoccurred, and the transmission could no longer be reset to normal functionality. The contact called a local dealer and was advised that the transmission was a closed system, and the transmission case could not be opened. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle, and the mechanic determined that the valve body needed to be replaced, and that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

I purchased a 2017 F150 in March of 25’. Miraculously no issue started until approx 4000 miles after the purchase. The dealer warranty was good for 3500. In the months that preceded issue after issue began to arise. First and least important in my personal opinion. I get in my truck to head to work and my sliding back glass is laying in backseat, completely intact with the track it slides on. One would initially think the GA sun maybe warmed the adhesive to such a Temp that it came loose but my truck is parked in the shade every day at work & at home. Insurance won’t cover it because they say it’s on Ford. Next I have lost power steering, when loosing it i have apparently lost all of steering, uphill downhill assistance an approx 10 other warnings that come every time i crank it. I have been driving the truck 7 months now with no power steering. Lastly and most important, the 10 speed transmission is completely faulty. The problems with it started in July. When accelerating from a stand still, like pulling on the road or highway, over 50% of the time the transmission just fails and you are a sitting duck for any oncoming traffic. Typically 2-4 secs later, the truck will catch of sudden with such a jerk it will give you whiplash. So once you made it through getting on the highway without dying, every shift of the transmission from 4th to 10th, the truck shutters and shakes so bad it seems like it will fall apart. The engine light will start flashing and you can’t go faster than 40-45 for about 15 secs until the engine light is solid again. Then while shuttering you can’t attempt to increase speed. I contacted Ford, I was completely blown off, they denied that 2017 f150 have any transmission issues. I’m forced to drive this daily because I spent all my savings on this truck. Oil change, along with oil filter have been kept up every 5,000 mi. I out everything into this truck and now I have a duct tape back window, no power steering and a transmission faulty.

The CDF drum bushing slipped, which seems to be a constant problem on the F150's, causing my truck transmission to fail while on the freeway. Looking online, several of these instances have occurred to other truck owners. The cost to repair this is astronomical and if Ford has been aware of the problem for so long, they should have recalled the trucks and fixed the problem.

Dec 6, 2025

Purchased CPO Ford F150 in 2000 to replace Explorer in MA. Used 4 wheel drive in winter the past two seasons to learn after spending over $1000 and driving a vehicle with reduced MPG due to a known TSP 24-2188 that this is a defect that affects fuel efficiency by close to six miles per gallon. Called Balise Ford after learning updated TSB requires flashing of the onboard TCCM. They would not touch it without charging me. Why can a manufacturer design a flawed system that affects the MPG without providing a free fix? So now I drive a vehicle with a defect grinding metal to metal reducing fuel efficiency by 30% that will require all new parts to replace the parts I replaced in January 2025 for almost $1000 when and if I can ever afford to bring to a FORD dealership to have the TSB corrected at my expense. This also creates a noise that is grinding metal to metal occasionally that is confusing and creates concern about road worthiness and if a wheel will fall off.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, and up a slight grade, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted. The contact was towing an empty 12-foot, single-axel, flatbed trailer. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was on a two-lane road and was unable to pull over. The vehicle lost motive power and failed to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was unable to exceed 20 MPH while driving. The contact pulled into a service station where a mechanic checked the vehicle. The mechanic informed the contact that the engine had overheated and that the oil level was low by 3 quarts. The contact had the mechanic top off the oil and waited for the engine to cool down. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The mechanic jump-started the vehicle, and the contact stated that the engine was making abnormal metal-on-metal grinding and knocking sounds. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that metal shavings were found in the oil pan and recommended that the engine and the turbocharger be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure of the inadvertent downshifting had not been addressed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to a known issue with inadvertent downshifting. The failure mileage was 88,366.

Since I purchased this vehicle new, it has always had problems with hard shifting. This happens at low to medium speed when accelerating or decelerating. In many cases while accelerating, the hard shift causes a temporary loss of power (and therefore acceleration) creating a dangerous situation when trying to merge in heavy traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I SHARED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE DEALER VERY EARLY IN MY OWNERSHIP. THEY APPLIED A SOFTWARE PATCH THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? IT HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A MANUFACTURING FACILITY, BUT IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO

I was driving my truck around 40 MPH and a wrench came up on the dash, the fan sounded like it kicked in on high for the duration of the wrench being on, the light indicating whether the truck was in P, R, N, D, M, 2, 1 was no longer illuminated. After a while it stopped but the problem has persisted. This last time, I was driving my truck around 55 MPH and the exact same thing happened but this time the truck seemed to downshift into either first or second gear and obviously the RPM was extremely high. After this happened, I took the truck to the Fairway Ford in Evans, Georgia and was notified that the molded lead frame needed to be replaced, costing nearly $2,300. This sudden downshift was an extremely concerning safety issue that could have resulted in a crash and endangered not only myself and my children, but others that wouldn’t have been able to prevent an accident. I hope this issue is addressed before someone loses their life over the poor quality of a Ford manufactured and Ford endorsed product with potentially dangerous consequences when it fails suddenly.

Nov 5, 2025

Transmission Lead Frame causing sudden shift to first gear during travel, no start, erattic shifting. This seems to be an on going issue with Ford 6 speed transmissions.

Nov 2, 2025

The transmission down shifted from 5th to first while going approximately 50 mph out of nowhere and without warning. This caused a rapid deceleration while on a busy road and scared the crap out of me. The truck stayed in a reduced power mode until I shut it down and restarted. I used my auto scan tool to look up if any fault codes were registered. Fault code P0722:00-68 was registered (Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal) which indicates a problem with the molded lead frame in the transmission. Why has Ford not issued a safety recall for this known problem? This can cause a catastrophic failure/safety issue while driving.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after cold starting the vehicle, the transmission hesitated and then shifted into the next gear with a bump. The contact stated that once the engine had warmed up, the transmission shifted normally. The contact stated that recently, while stopped at a traffic light, after the light changed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to move. The contact stated that the engine was running, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact shifted manually to first gear, and the vehicle moved forward with a bump. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had not yet taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the transmission and engine were replaced several years ago. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,530.

While driving lost transmission gear selection on the cluster and would no longer go into 1st gear. wrench light flashed and showed see owners manual. When decelerating for a stop the truck does not downshift into 1st gear, when your expecting a downshift it makes it very hard to stop at intended spot. Dealership mentioned this being a known issue (Lead Frame Replacement needed) but has only been recalled for 2014 and below year models.

Oct 26, 2025

Complete loss of transmission power, and gear indicator in the instrument cluster starts flickering like it is shorting out. The vehicle has been experiencing this for 2 weeks. This happens under acceleration mainly, and first occurred while entering a highway. The symptoms seem to match those presented regarding the Lead Frame issues presented on many forums.

I took my 2017 Ford F150 XLT super cab 4 x 4 into Matthews-Currie Ford dealership. It was diagnosed unsafe to drive. They replaced the transmission & driveshaft. The truck still was not functioning correctly. Took it back into the same dealership where they determine the engine was also bad. They ordered a junkyard engine that leaked all of the oil due to a loose or faulty oil pan plug. & had the truck in their possession for well over two months. The truck still does not operate correctly & they are refusing to stand behind their work. No warning lights. No indications of problem other than how it drove. There is no cooperation from another dealership due to this one working on it prior. I pay for an extended warranty that nobody wants to honor due to the fact that this dealership has worked on it and they don’t want to get involved after having all of this work done by somebody else. My safety was put at risk due to the fact that the driveshaft & transmission & engine were all failing at the same time & the dealership proved that by not letting me leave with my vehicle. Once they diagnose the issue. They said it was on roadworthy. This put me in a position of having to rent vehicles out of my own pocket & be reimbursed 50% of the cost of rental. They had the truck returned to them due to problems. They did not diagnose when I asked them to do a full diagnosis of the vehicle when I noticed it had an immediate problem one day into owning it. This worries me because not only do they want to not honor their work. They have caused additional electrical problems to the radio. & the air conditioner not cooling as it did before they replaced the engine. They stated maybe I should try to buy a more extensive Extended Warranty & they would consider fixing it. They treated me very unprofessionally & could not give a descriptive explanation of where they got the replacement used engine who rebuilt the transmission & why the electronics & air conditioner failed.

Drivability issues. Harsh shifting, downshifting, loss of acceleration, and warning lights appearing. Giving Code P0722

Oct 18, 2025

Truck has roughly 185,000 miles & is equipped with the 10r80 transmission. Transmission recently began experiencing harsh & hard shifts, skipping or slipping gears, gear searching and randomly shifts to neutral. Had transmission fluid/filter changed with little to no change in erratic transmission. Issues have been intermittent and I am unable to reproduce manually. 4 transmission shops and a ford dealership have all advised the most likely diagnosis is a failed CDF drum that has been a common issue with these transmissions but they cannot confirm without a teardown of the transmission. Vehicle is still drivable, if issues occur I park, turn the truck off for at least 1 minute. After starting the truck again the issue resolves itself. This issue leaves the vehicle susceptible to stalling/neutral on the roadway and at highway and city speeds.

Oct 17, 2025

The transmission would randomly shift into first regardless of speed. several times this occurred at highway speeds causing a sudden decrease on speed nearly leading to a rear end collision. The problem worsened to the point it would suddenly hunt for a gear. Fortunately this did not occur on the highway as it probably would have led to a serious accident. The problem was confirmed and repaired by an independent shop by replacing the molded lead frame in the transmission. There was no warning when the dangerous condition would occur.

Lead frame malfunction Vehicle downshifts into lower gears and won't shift afterwards Have not taken to service center as of today just started happening recently No inspections have been performed A service warning came on after the sudden downshift

My 2017 Ford F-150 (VIN [XXX] ) has serious safety issues that Ford has failed to address. The 10-speed transmission has been replaced three times by Ford dealerships and still hesitates and slips between 3rd and 4th gear, annd the plate now tings especially in cold weather. The truck bed has separated from the body near the wheel wells, leaving visible gaps to the ground and causing the tailgate to malfunction. This structural separation poses a safety risk if the bed detaches or tailgate fails under load. The cam phasers have also been repaired multiple times. Ford has refused further assistance despite documented repairs. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

6 speed automatic transmission downshifts while traveling at high speed into low gear by itself, causing vehicle to change speed and lock up rear wheels. Very dangerous! Vehicle has 66,150 miles on it, and isn’t used for work. The transmission also shifts into second and third gears while sitting still at a traffic light. This has happened multiple times. It is just now 1 month out of service contract (ended 8/2025 it started 9/2025). It is available for inspection. It has not been to dealer or mechanic yet for inspection or repairs to this certain transmission issue. It has ONLY ever been serviced by Ford dealer on regular basis since I purchased it new. No warning lights or codes of any kind. This is now not safe to drive, as it’s happening almost daily. Hopefully this is a RECALL soon and Ford does the right thing!

After reports to my Ford service center about hard shifting and being charged to reset something in it I took the truck back AGAIN for the third time to be told the problem was with technical service bulletin 25–20 126 delayed engagement shifting issue they were gonna fix had a more in depth problem, cdf was replaced and the transmission case was cracked and replaced. Please note I bought this was 77,000 miles and reported the problem to Ford soon thereafter it wasn’t until 89,000 miles that they finally found the problem. Although I had an extended warranty, I still had to pay $992.00.

Transmission lead frame failure. Common / known issue with Ford F150's. Evidently, there is a recall on the part that mine needs, but my vin isn't included in the recall. I can't accelerate at random. Vehicle starts off in 3rd gear / limp mode Yes, confirmed by ASE certified tech Replacement part isn't readily available due to high failure rate and recall.

I am writing to report a serious and recurring safety issue with my vehicle. On multiple occasions, while either pulling out into traffic or driving at normal speeds, the vehicle has unexpectedly dropped into first gear. This sudden downshift has caused the vehicle to decelerate abruptly, nearly resulting in a loss of control and posing a significant risk of an accident. As a business owner, I often have crew members riding with me, and this malfunction endangers not only my employees but also my family when they are in the vehicle. This is an unacceptable and dangerous situation that must be addressed immediately. I am requesting a full inspection and diagnosis of the transmission system, along with a permanent resolution to this issue. I urge you to prioritize this matter due to the safety risks involved.

Was on my way to work going about 75 and my truck shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear causing my back wheels to lock up and caused me to lose control nearly wrecking my vehicle

Sep 12, 2025

On 4 occasions, my F150 has went in reverse when transmission was in the drive position. The truck would travel backwards 3 to 5 feet before shutting off. The first time happened at a stop sign. Nearly backed into another vehicle. PCM was reprogrammed. 2nd time occurred on leaving my driveway. Ford replaced an ABS module. 3rd time happened in front of my house. Ford found bent pin on PCM. 4th time occurred at waste facility after unloading trash. Vehicle went in reverse when transmission was in drive. Vehicle went backwards at least 3 feet. Nearly backed into a ford F250 and pinned driver of vehicle between the 2 trucks. Ford has changed a relay. I have contacted Ford by chat, phone, and email. The case manager refuses to communicate with me about this matter.

Experienced transmission down shifting at highway speeds. Traveling at approx 75 mph in OH, when truck down shifted to 5th gear and showed warning message "drive train malfuction", message cleared on key cycle. Issue again occurred 8 days later in OH/PA return trip home. No message in cluster, but vehicle returned to normal operation after key cycle. Vehicle has operated normally for the last week. Dealer tried to pull codes, none set. Appointment made to have them look at truck, but they don't expect to find anything. Continue to drive truck, and IF message in cluster reappears bring it by if possible.

Driving interstate and a wrench warning came up on dash screen. I knew that wasn’t good. Two Local mechanics diagnosed as circuit A (transmission) needs replaced. Park light not illuminating and won’t even crank to start. I got it started , finally, and wrench came back on. Loud “thunk” noise when switching into reverse Was advised NOT to drive until repaired as it is dangerous to me and others Recall was issued for 10 pin and needs to recalled for 6 pin ASAP Ford is welcome. To check it out anytime as I just have it setting waiting on recall. I need a truck, please issue recall

Aug 26, 2025

While driving, my 2017 Ford F-150 with the 6-speed automatic will sometimes suddenly downshift on its own. This causes a hard jerk and a sudden change in speed, which feels unsafe especially at higher speeds. At other times, the truck will not shift into gear at all. For example, when backing out of a driveway or parking spot in reverse and then shifting into drive, the truck stalls. The only way to fix it is to put the truck completely in park, shut it off, and restart it before it will go into gear. This has forced me to be stopped in the middle of the road after backing out, waiting for the truck to restart, which is extremely dangerous when there is oncoming traffic. This has been occurring off and on for a long time now not just one date.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V236000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH, the transmission vibrated and downshifted before slamming into gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The contact stated that four days later, the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle shuddered abnormally and failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired after the most recent failure due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,426.

The lead frame failed and was replaced by Ford dealer. The vehicle downshifts while driving. This through a code “wrench” on the dash board indicating something needed to be addressed. Took vehicle to a couple repair shops and a transmission shop and all confirmed it was a faulty lead frame. Transmission shop said to contact Ford because there had been recalls on this very issue for the same year and model truck. This issue started a couple months prior to the repair which was on 8/8/2025. I did call Ford and they gave me a phone number for Auto Line Program. I filed a complaint but it denied.

Aug 8, 2025

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45-50 MPH in fifth gear, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, causing the vehicle to jerk abnormally. No warning light was illuminated. The transmission then inadvertently upshifted to third and then fifth gear. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

When using the truck in S transmission mode , The back wheels unexpectantly lock up due to a severe downshift. I reported this to the Ford Dealer when it first happened likely around 2018. The dealer kept the truck and reviewed the complaint. They reported that they couldn’t reproduce the downshift so nothing was done. I used the truck in that mode as recent as yesterday. I was going downhill around 20 mph and it downshifted hard once again. It seems to happen when the truck is coasting down an inclined road or when driving say 50 mph and pressure on the gas pedal is slightly reduced.

On July 18, 2025, I was fueling my vehicle at COSTCO. I put my vehicle in park, exited and left the door open while I waited for my credit card to clear so I could start fueling my vehicle. I was out of the vehicle for about a minute when the vehicle started to move backwards. I was standing between the open door and the drivers seat and was startled when it began to move. I was hopping on one foot trying to get back into the vehicle. Ultimately, the open door hit a column at the station. There was damage done to my door. There was no warning that made me aware that the vehicle wasn't still in park and there was an impending issue.

The contact's husband owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her husband was stopped at a red light, the vehicle shut off with an "Alarm" alert message on the instrument panel. The contact's husband sought assistance and had the vehicle jumpstarted, and the vehicle restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an oil change was performed, and the battery was tested, and the contact was informed that the battery was in good condition. Upon leaving the mechanic, the vehicle shut off again but another attempt to jumpstart the vehicle failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The vehicle remained with the dealer for four days; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The failure persisted upon return of the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to LaFontaine Ford Grand Rapids (3385 Alpine Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49544); where it remained unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 74,800.

Component: 6r80 transmission lead frame Safety: Driving at 70mph on the interstate on 07/23/2025 and vehicle violently downshifted while in cruise control. Rear tires locked briefly. Driver and passenger were restrained by the seat belts or there would have been a loss of control. I was able to pull to the side of the road. Reproduced: This is the third time in a year that this has happened. Independent shop is scheduled to inspect. DTC codes P061A and P0722 are logged in the PCM. Warning Lamp: After the incident, an amber wrench icon was displayed. Still displayed after restart. Disappeared after 2nd start.

My 2017 Ford F-150 is experiencing an oil pan leak. F150 model is equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. This is a lack of RTV adhesion at the oil pan seal. My dealership wants over 1k to fix which I refuse to pay. This issue was created by poor engineering and craftsmanship on Fords end and the consumer should not have to pay to fix this known issue. I understand there is a fix that involves a 1-piece aluminum pan, as seen on many you tube videos. I'm requesting that Ford be held responsible for fixing this issue and not the consumer, who paid a lot of money for this truck. Any help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated.

While driving with my cruise control at 75, the instrument cluster began to blink on and off like it was shorting out. Then the truck would suddenly downshift and search for a gear. It continued to do this until I could exit the highway. The truck aggressively downshifted multiple times quickly decelerating the vehicle. It was pretty scary.

Jul 17, 2025

Vehicle transmission will instantly drop to gears 3 to 5 (limp mode from what I have researched) & wrench light comes on. Very dangerous on the interstate traveling at 70mph+, seems to happen more frequently on hotter days. You can park & turn off vehicle, then crank back up, & it is out of limp mode but transmission is sluggish. Initially it was happening once per week on avg, now it is a toss up on each drive I do whether it goes into limp mode or not.

Jul 11, 2025

Transmission started jumping hard from park to drive , progressed dropping from higher gear to lower gears hard while driving causing the truck to lock up and skid does it at both higher speeds and lower speeds even while idling down the road .

There is an engine rattle when starting the vehicle. I took my vehicle to Ford of Upland dealership. They said I need to replace my VCT Solenoids and water pump. This was a known issue for this year and make of vehicle and I never received any notification. Now, they want to change me $6000 to repair it. There was TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 23-2143 issued for this defect.

Jul 7, 2025

When the vehicle is started, the cam phasers rattle, and yes, it is available for inspection upon request. Ford mechanics and other mechanics have stated that if not replaced, the cam phasers will eventually fail. This puts others at risk as the auto start/stop feature shuts the engine off anytime the vehicle comes to a stop. If the cam phasers failed while stopped in the road, the vehicle would not start back up, causing a rear end collision and possible injury/death to anyone on the road. The problem exists in the 2015-2018 Ford F150 3.5L ecoboost. Ford resolved the issue in the 2019 model F150 by replacing the cam phasers with ones that are built with better quality. I am unsure if the vehicle issue has been inspected by others. There have been no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It first appeared in my vehicle around this year.

Jul 3, 2025

This incident has occured twice. The first time, February 2025, I was driving the vehicle at approximately 55mph with Cruise Control engaged. The vehicle took itself off cruise and drop shifted to 1st gear. The rear tires skidded but I was able to pull over safely. Wrench warning on the screen. I shut off the vehicle. Restarted and the wrench icon was still present and vehicle would not shift to higher gears. Restarted again and the issue was gone. Independent service center could not find any issues or reproduce the problem. The second instance, July 1st 2025, occurred while towing a travel trailer. I was traveling at 25mph and the truck shifted to 1st and the rear tires locked briefly. The wrench icon appeared on the dash and then disappeared. It happened again just a minute or so later and then did not reoccur. Due to the low speed, no injuries occurred and control was maintained. I am certain that if this had happened at highway speed, there would have been an accident.

My truck is going me a P0720 code which tells me that my Shaft Output Sensor is bad. It is built into my lead frame. This is a known issue with F150’s I have seen. My transmission is clunky and downshifting randomly.

Jun 28, 2025

Truck rapidly shifted from fifth to third gear, causing the truck to jolt and lock the rear tires. This has occurred at least three times since a recall was performed on the truck’s computer several months ago. After it happened today, the truck produced the following codes: P0720 and U0102. This could be detrimental when driving at high speeds on the highway. Truck can be inspected if requested. A local Ford dealer has been informed about the issue and stated that the recall would not have caused it. No inspections have been performed due to the inconsistent occurrence of this issue.

I was driving at 62 MPH and the truck suddenly down shifted. It is a 6 speed transmission and I was in 6th gear when it down shifted. The indicator that displays what gear it is in disappeared but the rpm went form 1,500 up to 3,000 very abruptly. In fact, when it happened, the back wheels actually hoped up and down a couple of times. I tried to shift in manually but nothing. I stopped the car, restarted and it would not upshift. I put the car into neutral while I was rolling and then put it back into gear and the transmission stared to act normal.

Jun 9, 2025

Consistent hard shifting and hard downshifts.. Dealership charged us to reset this and it has not solved the problem I bought this vehicle used at 77,000 miles and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. Ford keeps denying that there’s an issue with the transmissions and I’m genuinely afraid to own this vehicle.

The intake manifold on this series of trucks is a commonly found failure. It is costly as it requires complete disassembly and reinstall for internal components, that lead to poor performance and eventual engine damage if not repaired. I had a SES code 2019 flag for this and required me to have >$1500 repair to resolve by a reinstall of a new intake manifold by the Ford Dealer on May 21, 2025. This should have been recalled with the vast number of problems seen online and that the dealer had this part in stock as it is so common. I was only 50d after my extended ESP warranty when it went.

10r80 transmission has completely failed making the truck undriveable

May 28, 2025

I'm reporting an issue that was previously reported on earlier model F150's with the transmission sensor. I had an error code come up and the truck would not shift out of 3rd gear. After taking it to the shop they said it was likely the speed sensor within the transmission, and that the whole transmission casing and sensor needed to be replaced since it causes issues with shifting. After research, this has been under investigation, and clearly needs to be addressed. This is going to cost thousands to repair an issue that has been known on these 6 speed transmissions by Ford. Noticed 6months after purchase on our way to Juneau Alaska from Arizona. I was driving my 2017 F150 and pulling a 8’x12’ toy hauler trailer on freeway doing 65 mph, I merged lanes to get off the freeway on off ramp. I took my foot off the accelerator got about half way down ramp and the transmission did major downshift to like second gear. Didn’t know what to expect so I just changed it from tow haul mode to drive mode on the end of the shifter handle. It seem to make it the rest of the way to Juneau Alaska. Just thought it was a weird one time thing. Didn’t really have any issues again till about 2022. I was driving in Juneau doing 60mph with my wife , mother and father in-law in the back seats and experienced it again, a major downshift not sure to what gear, it really threw all of us forward and luckily no one was behind me at the time or I would have been rear ended. Very scary to be driving on the road. Also noticed a couple more times when it did that there was nothing, no acceleration on the gas pedal. It seems to come and go. I took it in to the only place that repairs Fords here where I live. My five year factory warranty expired, I had a eight year extended but they would not cover the expense because they are not a official Ford dealer. I paid $1,834.38 to have the main control MB3Z-7A100-A part in the transmission replaced with filter, fluid replaced to at the same time. It seem to have fixed the high speed downshift for now, but noticed at slow speeds on deceleration letting my foot off accelerator I noticed it slips from like third to neutral and if I go to re-excelerate it slips back up to gear it left. There needs to be a National Recall on these Transmissions just like the 2014 F150’s. The Dealers are still using the same parts and build of these transmission’s as they did back then. Please put out a recall because after years of this issue it sounds like there are thousands of others dealing with this issue.

On [XXX] while driving at 70mph on [XXX] my 2017 F-150 began to shift into multiple gears causing the computer to shut down the trans causing me to coast from the center lane off to the shoulder. the truck shut down. and would not allow me to shift until the computer reset and then allowed me to go home. This happened again on Friday [XXX] leaving me stranded for 20 min in the center turn lane in Berea Ky. I Called the local for dealer who advised they had never seen this issue. I called Ford Customer Care and filed a complaint. on April 7th i took it to Richmond Ky AAMCO Transmission. They advised there is a TSB (technical service Bulletin on the LEAD Frame. The Lead frame houses all the electronic components to the shift solenoid plate. this frame unit is the culprit. and gets dirt between the solenoid electric pigtails causing shorts which causes the trans to freakout. Needless to say it cost me 1600.00 to get this issue fixed. they replaced the lead frame put in a fam spacer that protects the the sominoid connections, the also replaced the solenoid valve plate. I have had 2 incidents where my vehicle has suddenly shifted into 1st gear at highway speeds(65-70+mph). I was alone in the vehicle each incident. This caused a sudden and violent loss of speed and nearly locking up the rear wheels, both while entering the freeway. Vehicles behind me had to take evasive action and I had to quickly maneuver to the side of the road. The vehicle operated normally immediately following both incidents. This truck has a 10R80 transmission and has known failures of the CDF drum due to poor construction/quality of internal bushings(pressed in). Ford has since revised this(welded, anti-walk bushing) in newer vehicles but has not addressed the vehicles prior to the revision. I have had no warning lights or codes, nor any other indications this issue was occurring. This vehicle has been maintained well and all services/intervals performed at Ford service departments. I have an appointment in the coming weeks with a local Ford service department for a diagnostic check. The service rep advised based on details I have provided I have CDF failure. This issue has a cascading effect and may require full transmission replacement to rectify. All warranties have expired, repair costs can exceed 30% of current vehicle value.

The transmission has been chattering, slipping, and making weird noises since I bought the truck. There are times where the truck will roll forward several feet after I've placed the shifter in park and remove my foot from the brake pedal. In my opinion these issues are definitely dangerous and can get someone seriously injured or fatalities could occur.

Multiple occasions in recent weeks where truck has downshifted rapidly and unexpectedly at cruising highway speeds from 6th gear to 2nd. First incident was on March 8, 2025, while pulling a horse trailer at highway speed of 55mph where truck downshifted from 6th to 2nd causing a sudden slow down of vehicle and risk of crash while pulling trailer. Most recent incident occurred while accelerating as truck was shifting upward through gears it suddenly downshifted to 2nd causing rear wheel lock up. In all incidents the check engine light would come on, pulling off to side of road, turning power off and back on again would reset the truck and check engine light would go away. On April 10, 2025 the truck was taken to the local Ford dealer for a routine service and issues with the transmission downshifting were pointed out and asked to be looked at. The report said there is "TCC slipping actual and TCC desire slipping 100RPMS". The recommend repair was a complete transmission replacement due to high milage. Vehicle currently has 121k miles. I declined repairs at that time due to cost of complete transmission replacement. On April 26, 2025 truck was taken to local SMOG station for routine SMOG inspection for DMV. Truck failed test due to check engine light being on and error code being reported. The error code being reported is "P0720 - Output Speed Sensor Circuit".

Transmission slightly lunges forward after a delay in pushing the gas pedal down - like a throttle surge. The item is not available for inspection. Safety put at risk relative to unexpected slight acceleration. Independent Service Center has verified the problem on 03.25.2025 after I asked for a diagnosis. I was given a TSB 23-2250 for further processing with the local Ford Dealer, since vehicle was under a paid extended warranty. The vehicle is in the shop now for faulty phasers, leaking oil pan, and the subject hesitency and surge of the transmission. The suspected transmission problem has not yet been confirmed by the Ford Dealer Service Center. There were no warning messages or warning lamps indicating I had a problem. The action relative to the acceleration surge just happened. Attachment 1 was the mechanics invoice for making a diagnosis not a repair Attachment 2 was my note to the mechanic specifically outlining items to check for verification Attachment 3 was a TechServiceBulletin he stapled to my invoice informing me that there was a TSB out on the transmission.

Transmission error codes P0706 and P0707. Causes vehicle to be non operational. Cause is due to a bad sensor the lead frame in the valve body of the 6R80 transmission. Have had issues with transmission for years and was checked previously and dealer said no problems. Seems like it was down shifting for no reason. No recalls. In 2024 while driving I experienced sudden loss of power and seemed like down shifting from transmission on major highway and almost came to a stop in the middle of the lane. This was frightening! This continued to happen. Took to dealer and they said I had to replace the transmission.

On a regular and routine basis, the vehicle is known to have difficulty in shifting between 3rd and 5th gear. Often times, while shifting, the transmission will hesitate to shift before lurching into the next gear. The vehicle is equipped with a 10R80 transmission and has previously encountered issues with the Cam Phasers. Cam Phasers have been replaced, but no work has been performed on the transmission. Driver can replicate the issue on almost every drive.

While driving at highway speed, transmission will downshift into 5th gear mostly, but at times down to 3rd gear. Street driving, it will at times downshift all the way down to 1st gear. Whenever switching from Drive to reverse, it won't go. Have to switch back and forth between the two until it engages. Noticed this issue doesn't happen until the transmission temperature is over 200°.

On March 30th I filed a complaint #11654561. Since that time the vehicle has progressively gotten worse. Traveling at approximately 55 mph the tires suddenly locked up/stopped rolling at normal speed, jerked the truck and I was flung forward. the vehicle would not go over 15 mph AGAIN! Then, on [XXX] I was traveling home approximately 65 mph and truck downshifted and wouldn't move beyond 20 mph. This is getting out of control that I continue to have transmission problems with this vehicle. Talking with a Ford representative he said many problems have been with the transmission conductor plate, there is a defect and having it replaced with any product other than the Ford piece seems to resolve the problem. This is incredible, Ford is telling me what the problem is and won't fix it. How many other people are going through this same problem and we as Ford customers are being scammed of safety repairs. My truck is invaluable to trade in and I'm terrified to drive it. Please, hear my distress and help with a recall to fix our vehicles. Additionally, I just bought this truck approximately 7 months ago. For the 1st 30 days all was OK but as soon as I started traveling at higher speeds this problem appeared. I am afraid for not only my safety but for other drivers if this truck continues to act not safe in traffic. While maintaining a fixed speed (~55mph) up a slight incline, the vehicle rapidly shifted from 6th gear to a lower (presumably 1st given rpm/torque change) gear. While in normal use at that speed in 6th gear, the torque converter is in a "locked up" (direct mechanical connection) state- the sudden gear change plus "locked up" torque converter caused the engine speed to rapidly jump past its "red-line." Unable to compensate for the instant change in torque, the rear wheels locked up and the truck began to slide- I was able to regain control of the vehicle as it slid off the road and come to a stop. No injuries. After stopping briefly to assess the situation, I got underway- it became quickly obvious that the transmission has sustained extensive damage in the incident as it began to "shudder" intermittently. Further research and testing by myself using consumer diagnostic tools revealed that the torque converter sustained damage, particularly in the internal clutch (the mechanism that allows for a direct engine to transmission connection at high speed for better fuel economy), which is now failing to fully engage and disengage at some speeds and causing the transmission to "shudder". This conclusion was reached by observing the "desired torque converter slip" (measured in rpm) and comparing to the "measured torque converter slip" during a variety of conditions. It is unclear to me what caused the sudden gear change, but it caused extensive (and expensive) damage to my vehicle. This problem presents a major safety concern to myself and other vehicles around me and could result in a crash if it occurs again. Other F150s (one body-style older I believe) with the same transmission had a similar recall recently- had this also been addressed by the manufacturer on the 15-17 trucks, this incident (and extremely costly repair) may have been prevented.

Vehicle would downshift to 3rd or 1st gear and will not shift out of that gear at any speeds. Would happen at randomly at highway speeds or just from accelerating from a stop, causing dangerous speed changes while on highway. Turning engine/keys completely off and back on will reset the error. Service wrench light would also come on occasionally when this happens. This issue has been prevalent for the last few years since after hitting 60k miles mark. Inspection is available upon request. Issue cannot be reproduced on demand, only randomly. Issue has not been evaluated by any service technicians or dealerships or any other persons except myself using a diagnostics code scanner. Using a diagnostic scanner shows error code "P0722-00 Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal - Not Current DTC."

Mar 30, 2025

Transmission will change gears while driving. I can be driving 45 mph in traffic, truck will automatically shift and I'm now going 15 and cannot speed up. There is no warning lites on dash before issue occurs. Called dealership who had no solutions to offer. I cannot be the only one experiencing this issue from reading online forums and Ford needs to be held accountable for faulty equipment. This is a safety issue in traffic for my family.

Transmission suddenly downshifts and when cold truck will not move

Mar 29, 2025

We purchased this vehicle approximately 6 months ago. On our second long trip of owning it we noticed that when we would give it gas to pass vehicles it would down shift and up shift hard. No warning/error lights came on. We dud have a diagnostic check done but nothing came up. The mechanic at Nicely's said it could be the clutch bank? I read where these similar trucks are having the same issues with shifting and there are some recalls on them. Please help..my warranty was only good for 6 months therefore expired. Where and how to we go from here.

My transmission is shifting gears on its own. Sometimes it will downshift and other times it will shift up. Ford denies this problem and wants to replace it for $8000.

Mar 27, 2025

While driving vehicle at 60 mph transmission shifted unexpectedly to a lower gear increasing the rpm’s on engine. Vehicle transmission would not operate normally after this incident. The orange colored warning “ wrench” symbol instantly came on after this incident. I drove truck to a Ford Dealership that was close by and they replaced the lead frame component on the truck . See attachment for details of repair . This appears to have corrected the issue with the transmission.

After I purchased a RV and making the trip home, we went through several stop lights. As we were slowing down to make a stop at light, the vehicle made an abrupt downshift. Seemed like it was in fourth gear and went in to first or second gear. The vehicle jerked and the rpm went to around 6000. I thought my engine was going to blow up!! Scary and felt dangerous! Then it happened again approximately 10 miles down the road. I haven't experienced this since this date but I haven't pulled anything since then either. Please make this a recall. It isn't just the 2014 model. I have V8 5.0 6 speed transmission. Please help.

Mar 26, 2025

Loss of gear at highway speeds. Went from 10th gear to 1st. Tires locked up and an error for the drive train showed up on the dash. Pulled over, restarted vehicle and it seemed to work. This has happened 3 times since. I was luck that no vehicles were around me or I would have caused an accident and potentially chasing injury to myself, my family or another driver. Dealership was not able to locate issue. Told me to keep driving and report back when it happens again.

I have had transmission gear changes abruptly/rough on my 6 speed 2017 XLT F150. It seems to happen more often downshifting from 4th to 3rd gear. I reported this to dealer early after purchase when I still had factory waranty. Dealer inspected and answered that “this is normal.”

Mar 26, 2025

The truck will spontaneously downshift when driving. This creates a intense bang and vibration in the vehicle with an instantaneous speed change of vehicle. It's quite scary when it happens. I don't believe that it's any good for the drive shaft or rear end with such a sudden instantaneous transmission shift. I fear for additional damage it to the vehicle and the existing drivetrain when this occurs and could cause an accident if someone is following too close to the back of me when this happens.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55-60 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, causing the rear wheels to lock up. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the wrench symbol was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle went into LIMP Mode, and the vehicle was slow to respond. The vehicle was turned off for ten minutes and then restarted. While driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the failure recurred. The contact stated that DTC: P1702; indicated an intermittent failure with the transmission range sensor circuit (PRNDL sensor), potentially causing erratic shifting or even the vehicle entering LIMP Mode. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 108,700.

Truck began downshifting from 6th gear to 5th numerous times at highway speeds (60ish mph). Wrench warning light would randomly come on, Service Engine Soon light would intermittently come on, followed by the dashboard totally blanking out. In one day on a drive to work, it started shifting from 6th to 4th. On the way home the same day, it shifted violently from 6th to 2nd gear hard at highway speed. The occurrence was a big safety concern as it was raining out - almost skidded out of control. As the truck was being driven into the dealership, there was NO acceleration - just revving of the engine which could have caused a major accident while having to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic. They diagnosed it as follows: 108572 found DTCP0706, P0707, P1702 / 20107 CF / MB3Z*7A100*B Transmission Control Assembly / FL3Z*7A098*B Screen Assembly / 7-XT*10QLVC Auto Transmission Oil. Dealership said that it was "normal wear and tear" and the repair bill was $2,436. Since repair, the truck has been operating without issue.

Mar 24, 2025

My 2017 2.7l 6 speed f150 frequently experiences a random downshift to 1gear at various speeds and then it shifts to 5th gear and then 4th gear and then it stays in 4th gear. Multiple transmission shops have noted that the lead frame and valve body are potentially responsible for the downshift because the previous generation 6 speeds had the same issue. No codes are populating when the downshift happens and no CEL or Wrench light come onto the screen. The only way to get the truck to shift properly again is to turn it off and wait a while and then turn it back on. This problem has been reproduced by independent service centers.

This issue has happened multiple times. While driving at highway speeds, the truck downshifts too many gears and causes the back tires to almost skid, causing all the passengers in the vehicle to slam forward. When this happens, it doesn't matter if you try to accelerate, manually shift gears, put it in tow mode, nothing works. Then all of the sudden, it will shift back into a higher gear and let you accelerate again. It started a couple of years ago, but at the time Ford was just now addressing the issue with vehicles under warranty and recalled them. Ford was stating that it was a software issue, but after a few months, people that got the new software stated that the issue came back. March of 2024, Ford released a TSB on how to fix the issue, but refuses to admit that it is a safety issue and recall it. My truck was dropped off this morning at the Ford Dealership. I am hoping that the TSB is a permanent fix. IT wasn't until I got to work that I saw the news that Ford is finally being investigated for this as a safety issue. Hopefully it turns into a recall and I can get reimbursed.

While traveling at approximately 75 MPH, the transmission downshifted one(1) speed for about 5 seconds, then upshifted back into high Gear. I briefly got a readout that said "seeking parameters." This is a 10 speed transmission, my assessment is that what it did was drop from the "overdrive" gear into 9th gear. It was a single incident and did not create a safety hazard but may be a precursor for future problems. The vehicle has roughly 65000 miles on it.

Truck is dropping gears/drop into neutral/reverse/park while driving. Problem initially began only within the instrument cluster, but as time went on it progressed to dropping gears with erratic gear indication on the instrument cluster (flickering through P N D R M 1 2). A video can be provided upon request, but cannot be attached to this inquiry. Once the truck was taken into the shop I was made aware of other F150s of the same year/model having the same issue, and that Ford is currently investigating. The technician at the Ford dealership correlated the issue to the lead frame harnesses part.

I was experiencing hard shifting in upper gears like 8, 9 and 10. At 118592 miles the Ford dealer told me the transmission needed to be replaced. I had them install a Ford remanufactured transmission. The dealer told me this reman should have all the upgrades of the latest transmissions. Reman number is JL3Z 7000L. At around 123000 miles I experienced the following. I had the cruise control set at 74mph. On an upgrade I felt a hard shift. I noted the transmission was in 8th gear. Then it shifted to 9th, 10th and then to 1st. The truck was suddenly slowing down for what seemed like 3 to 5 seconds before shifting into 10th. I did not hit the brakes. Cruise control was still engaged. Suddenly it repeated the shifting from 10 to 9 to 8 to 9 to 10 to 1st and then 10th. The wrench warning turn on and 10th gear was locked out. After cycling the engine off and on again I have not experienced this again. I did notice after the incident my vehicle had an oily residue on the exterior. I was traveling on a dry road with few cars around me and good tires. I did not consider it a safety concern until I read about the 6 speed transmissions experiencing this and the their safety concerns. What if someone had been behind me, what if the road had been slick, what if my tires had not been in good condition? I searched ford forums online and was surprised to find others as recently 2023 have reported exactly the same experience on 2018 F150. The fact that my transmission is supposedly what is in the 2025 concerns me. I waiting to get my truck back into Ford Service.

2017 F150 transmission 10R80 started failing at 80K miles and completely failed at 113K. Dealer was asked to inspect the transmission but they misdiagnosed it. It is available for inspection until it is returned to Ford as part of complete swap\core charge. In the beginning the hard shifting did not put occupants at risk. As the transmission continued to fail it did put occupants and others at risk. Is would loose power/not respond to accelerator. Hunt for gears, shift from high gears to low gears while moving. Shifting to 1st gear while traveling at 45 miles per hour. Several times it would start to move from a stop but then not continue to move forward (in heavy traffic) The dealer miss diagnosed the problem and severity at 90K miles. They told me the transmission would continue to have firmer shifts while it was relearning programing. The dealer diagnosed a complete transmission failure based on codes DTSC P0734 and P07F7 stored in the transmission control module (at 113K miles). Their recommendation is a new upgraded replacement transmission from Ford due to internal failure. Ford Motor has been contacted through the customer service number 800-392-3673. There were no visible warning/check engine lights in the beginning (80K miles). Symptoms included harsh/delayed shift and harsh/delayed engagement. 20K miles later (113K miles) check engine light said to check the owner manual but didn't display codes. Transmission started to severely/erratically hunt for gears. Shift to 1st gear from higher gears (5,6,7,8) with very harsh down shifts.

My 2017 Ford F-150 demonstrates every single aspect of an existing recall for 2017 F150 vehicles. However my VIN number is not included in the recall. My truck shifts suddenly in and out of gear causing me to have momentary instances of no power. This has happened, for example, turning left on busy roads with acceleration disappearing in critical moments. The vehicle downshifts suddenly on occasion. The gear indicator moves rapidly between gear 10 and gear 1. The vehicle routinely does not downshift to 1st gear at stoplights. The vehicle often shifts hard from gear to gear. The vehicle sometimes cannot go to the next gear, say from 7 to 8, and will be in some version of neutral during this time before finally connecting. Electronic issue plague this particular vehicle. All of these items have been noted in the existing recall. I am requesting an expansion of the recall to include all 2017 Ford F150's with 10 speed transmission. Ford dealer has indicated I need to replace the transmission for close to $10K. And they noted they see this problem constants - showing me a stack of folios in their repair facility for the same reason. The problem has been diagnosed by Ford dealer and an independent qualified transmission specialist shop This is an ongoing issue - per the questions below there is no specific date associated with the issue.

I was drinking home from work one day traveling at a rate of 60 mph and all of a sudden the transmission shifts into 2nd gear which made me come to a fast stop with no warning and would not allow me to accelerate to the posted speed limit. This is very dangerous and it’s a common issues that ford will not take accountability for.

Jan 8, 2025

The transmission-10 speed. Yes it is available. The vehicle has been exhibiting on and off hard shifting since early December. Yesterday while crossing an intersection the vehicle went out of gear and would not move. A car behind me traveling at normal speed had to brake and swerve into the next lane to avoid hitting my vehicle. After contacting a few transmission shops they all confirmed that this has been an ongoing issue with these transmissions and they could not work on it and the only option was to replace it. Additionally Ford seems to be aware of the problem as they have issued a number of TSB's. The vehicle has not been inspected. The only thing I noticed was that the 1-10 gear indicator turned off.

Similar to the 10-14 f150 recall for the 6r80 transmission lead frame failure. Driving down the freeway at speeds of 50-70 in 6th gear truck has down shifted into first causing loss of control. Transmission then disengages entirely and loses power mid driving. After turning truck off and waiting, starting the truck it returns to normal. failing speed sensor and lead frame are the cause in this transmission from Ford called the 6R80 in year models 10-19 however recalls were only ever issues for the 10-14 generation for repairs of less than 10 years of age or 150,000 miles. My truck is the generation after, a 2017 model with 146,000 miles. Truck is currently at Ford for repairs and diagnostics. In the most recent event with the truck shifting from 6th gear to 1st yesterday I was in heavy traffic and when I lost control of truck I had to "sweep" to the side of road / ditch to avoid collision with vehicles behind and beside me at speeds of 65-75. I believe the year models 15-19 should be included on the existing recall if equiped with the 6 speed automatic transmission being the fact they were built and manufactured with the same failing parts before the current recall was put in place a few months ago according to online sources. Fortunately I was safe in all 3 incidents but yesterdays close call has forced my hand in "parking" the truck until Ford can repair any malfunctioning parts. If a recall is placed after my trucks repair it would be nice to have compensation for this bill. Truck has had scheduled maintenance including transmission on or before owners manual recommendations at designated Ford dealers other than oil and brake changes which I do myself at home. Please consider the 6R80 transmission as a point of recall for all models not just earlier generations as most of these trucks may not have the mileage yet needed to have serious mechanical failure. In which some failures can have trucks towing loads than can cause serious crash events.

Dec 11, 2024

Driving down the road, truck started erratically shifting into 1st gear while going 55 mph on the highway. This was causing truck to jolt and drop speed quickly and was cause for a major safety issue on the highway. Cause was found to be the lead frame and dealer is replacing it this week. Transmission is the same as found in the 11-13 f150s with an active recall for the lead frame. Have found many others reporting this as an issue that happened to them between 60-120k miles. Mine happened at 60,200 miles. Wanted to report it for others safety on the road to extend the recall to the 15-17 series trucks with the same issues as the 11-13 f150s.

Dec 11, 2024

I have the Ford F1 50 2017 model, 10 speed transmission. I about it new. In early December 2024 well on a road trip went down shifting the transmission started jerking, feeling like it was having trouble finding the correct gear. This continues to occur with subsequent driving of my vehicle. This was dangerous because it was occurring when trying to accelerate and pass other vehicles with a safe margin. This safety factor was definitely impaired. The speed was not properly controlled and the whole vehicle was jerking strongly. Luckily there were no oncoming vehicles but if there were this could have led to a head-on collision. Hesitancy to properly accelerate is extremely dangerous. Doing some research, I see that this problem was recognized by Ford in 2018 and memos to service departments were put out. I also saw that there is a 6 State class action lawsuit regarding exactly the same issue that has been issued against Ford Motor Company since approximately 2018. The lawsuit shows there have been numerous memos regarding this problem known about the Ford 10 speed transmission and not just in Ford F1 50s. I tried contacting Ford Motor Company and they said "your VIN number was not included in any recalls so you can only complain to the NHTSA". This is a known and dangerous problem that Ford motor company should issue a recall for and be responsible for repairing since it has been known since 2018 while all warrantees were still in force. My warranty is no longer in force, but Ford knew about this during the time of my warranty. I called the dealership at the time that it first occurred and they said that they had been fixing multiple transmission problems and they did get a warning memo at the time that it occurred. However I do not see any warnings on my Ford app. I also saw that in 2002 there was another class action suit against a different Ford transmission problem that was eventually settled in approximately 2008.

Dec 3, 2024

I had a problem that would cause my transmission to randomly downshift or slip into neutral while in drive. When this happened it would also disengage cruise controll and would disengage the blind spot monitoring system.Took it to the dealership and they confirmed it was a faulty molded lead frame. I had them replace the part. But was doing research and saw where they have had similar recalls on previous years.

I'm experiencing issues with Ford's 10-speed transmission, widely considered dangerous due to issues like: harsh shifting, sudden jerking, hesitation when applying power, and unpredictable gear changes. Erratic shifting: The transmission can shift gears unexpectedly, causing sudden jolts and potentially causing loss of control, especially during critical driving situations like lane changes or heavy traffic. Power loss: sudden loss of power due to transmission issues, which can be dangerous on the road The issue occurs in regular intervals but with no particular trigger. No, there were no prior warnings before this failure The ford dealer has run diagnostics on my vehicle and reports an issue with the transmission which causes the above mentioned dangerous conditions.

During a 5,000 mile vacation trip thru mountainous terrain the transmission wouldn't downshift properly and has continued since during everyday driving. There is vibration felt through the truck and steering wheel. I made an appointment at the Hanover Pa dealership and they verified the problem. The Ford garage had it 4 days and put in an entire rear drive shaft which didn't fix it. The next trip there, they replaced the torque converter which they immediately told me still didn't fix it and it's been there a week torn apart. They have now replaced almost $4,000 worth of apparently functional parts. Our last conversation was they don't know what is wrong and they need to contact Ford. The first hazard l face is the truck won't shift down in a timely manner, especially on hills to come to a full stop. The next hazard is the truck sitting at the Hanover Ford dealership, torn apart for yet another week and they aren't equipped with an answer.

While driving 80 mph using cruise control on flat straight freeway, vehicle randomly would downshift from 10th gear into much lower gears, causing rapid deceleration. This happened multiple times, after transmission issues were reported to dealer and dealer "could not find any issues." Dealer eventually said new transmission was needed, replaced it, and then 30k miles later similar transmission issues are happening.

While driving down the interstate the truck randomly started shifting into all the gears randomly which was making the rear tires seem to lock up. The dash instrument panel had the gears randomly cycling through them also.

Sep 13, 2024

On 8/19/24 the transmission started slipping mildly. 8/20/24 slipping progresses to total failure to engage. I was on the highway (10 miles out of town) when it became clear I would not make it to my destination- I pulled off at a driveway to turn around and attempt to make it to my mechanic. At the driveway, I placed the gearshift in reverse to make a 3 point turn; the gear would not engage and the truck rolled back into a ditch, with 1 tire suspended in the air, tetering at a wavering 45 degree angle. Leaning weight of all passengers uphill and placing truck in 4-high, the transmission did engage in drive and I was fortunately able to avert the seemingly inevitable rolling of the vehicle, and we were able to pull out onto the road. Terrifying. We made it to my mechanic, who ran codes and got: PO 772-00 and P2704-00. He sent me to the transmission shop, who told me they will not touch a Ford 10 spd tranny because they have so many problems. The Ford dealer has advised it needs a new transmission tot he tone of $10k. They encouraged contacting Ford Corporate. Ford Corporate informed me that yes, the 10 spd transmission do have a lot of known problems, and there are a number of recalls, based on date of manufacture and batch manufactured at specific plants. Though my truck is exhibiting the same catastrophic failure of the transmission as those recalled, Ford informed me my batch is not included in the recall and thus they will do absolutely nothing to help me and the pay will be my responsibility out of pocket. My case # with Ford corporate is CXH02611974.

I’ve taken the truck to a ford dealership and after running diagnostics they’ve told me they have to replace the whole transmission the problems I reported before they ran diagnostics were that when driving on hills or moving from a stop to get into traffic the vehicle will go from 4th gear to 1st and won't accelerate. When going into reverse it buffers and takes a second to engage in gear. After this happens I'm alerted with "Powertrain system fault" This causes a safety issue for me and others because on hills it won't accelerate and it rolls backwards. From a stop trying to get into traffic it won't move and becomes a collision waiting to happen. Before I took it in to a Ford dealership to look at , these problems became an everyday issue and the problems always happen and I was forced to not drive it to avoid further damage. The only warnings are "Powertrain System fault" No symptoms and first appeared late June of 2024.

Ive had a few incidents where the vehicle shifted so hard into a lower gear that the tires made a sound. I thought the truck was going to break. I can have some one behind and I would be rear ended. My truck will get in a wreck just a matter of time. Especially if there is a turn, rain, snow, ice, a hill, or someone behind me. Other incidents with the powertrain have happened like not wanting to shift and the lights start blinking. The truck doesn't know what to do. So if this happens at a stop light, a stop sign, parking lot on the highway, I will probably get in a wreck. I've had it checked by a couple mechanics and they don't know. Its all over the forums of people having issues but nobody has a solution. And if there is a solution its very expensive. And not really sure if that fixes the issue. Its a very unsafe vehicle and only a matter of time before Ford gets sued for millions. I've already made a claim with Ford. They have refused to help me in the situation.

My transmission will down shift into 2 gear no matter how fast I'm driving and my gear position on the dash goes out but no check engine like has come on yet this has happened multiple times in the pass couple weeks. The last time I was driving at 65 MPH and the truck down shifted and locked the back tires up and motor RPM hit 8000. The truck slid about 200 yards before it slowed down and started shifting back into 6th gear. I was pushed up into the steering wheel if my seat belt would have stopped me I could have hit the windshield. I refuse to drive this truck until it is fixed and can be proven it will not happen again. Thanks for looking into this...

I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding persistent and significant issues with the cam phasers in my 2017 Ford F-150 EcoBoost. I purchased the vehicle in December 2019 with 40,000 miles on it. Since then, I have experienced ongoing cam phaser problems, which have led to considerable inconvenience and expense. In February 2022, with 92,000 miles on the vehicle, I took it to a dealership for reprogramming as per Ford’s Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP). Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue. The cam phaser problems persisted, ultimately resulting in a major repair on June 17, 2024, when the truck had 134,000 miles, costing $4,100. The repair involved: •Checking engine light diagnosis and verification of cam phaser failure. •Removal and replacement of timing chains, phasers, chain tensioners, valve covers, gaskets, and other related components. •Reinstallation and testing to ensure the problem was resolved. I believe Ford should cover these costs since the cam phaser issue is widely known and documented as a design flaw in the 3.5L EcoBoost engines, particularly those produced before 2021. Ford acknowledged this issue and updated the cam phaser design in 2021, but many owners, including myself, have experienced failures despite adhering to recommended maintenance and service procedures . I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and hold Ford accountable for the costs associated with these known defects. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

My F150 has had the VCTS Units replaced four times. Two times at my expense costing me over $2000 each time. Ford fixed the problem under warranty once while it was still under warranty. They also did a reprogram that was to fix the problem but the problem did come back. I have now had to replace the VCTS twice at my expense for a total of four times since purchasing the truck and each time I am told the new parts are the fix. The second problem is the transmission slams out of gear while accelerating to pass other cars. Truck started to jerk and stop and shift sporadically into different gears. attached is one receipt. More are available. I will have one more after today's submission for nearly $2000 is repair for the same fix in under 50,000 miles since the last fix.

2017 Ford F150 5.0 w/6speed transmission experienced the following: While stopped at the redlight with brakes applied, my vehicle lunged forward as if hit from behind. After the light turned green, I accelerating, my truck throws up a message on dashboard with the orange wrench saying See Manual while at the same time, the transmission downshifted to 2nd gear for a few seconds then accelerated normally. After about 30 seconds, the message disappeared. No check engine light yet. Two evenings later, my truck downshifted to 2nd gear again for 2-3 seconds while driving at 60 mph then upshifted to 6th gear, the gear indicator (P R N D M 1 2) started to show that I was not in any gear then showed then I was in neutral. I have a 2017 F150 that has this exact same down shifting issue mentioned in the following recall. “Ford Motor Company (Ford) Recall No. 24S37 Chronology CERTAIN 2014 FORD F-150 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS – UNEXPECTED TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFT.” This issue has happened to me several times at various speed. The issue started occurring several months ago. There is no way to predict when the issue will occur, it’s completely random. I have taken it to an independent mechanic who was not able to reproduce the issue or diagnose the problem. There were no codes stored in the scanner tool they use. I have not taken it to Ford since there is no way they can reproduce the issue. I have reported it to Ford, case CXH-02297813-T0J8Q0 There was a recall previously for the same issue for 2011-2013 years and has now since been expanded to include 2014. The Ford reference number for the previous recall is 19S07. My 2017 F150 has the same transmission and it seems like more than a coincidence that I have experienced the exact same issue and have the same transmission. I believe that Ford needs to investigate all year models that have the same transmission and expand their recall to include them. I’m assuming the only included 2014 recently because they got complaints from owners?

While I was driving on the highway at 70 miles an hour with adaptive cruise control on the transmission unexpectedly down shifted gears causing me to almost crash. Once I got off the highway at a stop light the truck wouldn’t shift into first gear for ten minutes. Once it finally was able to shift gears I barely made it to my destination and the truck would not shift into reverse. Now it won’t go over 30 miles an hour because it’s unable to shift to the higher gears. My family was in the truck at the time and fortunately no one was hurt but it was too close of a call. I have the truck at a local ford dealer now and they are looking at it now but said it could cost be 6k which I cannot afford to pay. I don’t know what I am going to do. I don’t have a vehicle to drive and now I am stuck without a vehicle to drive my family around.

Camshaft phaser failure. We had code P051B which led to sensor replacement. Shortly after cold start engine rattle. Suspect was cam/phaser from web investigating. At 50k miles this should be covered. Ford wants $6,000 to change VCT, Timing belt & faulty cam phasers. Ford acknowledged in 2021 their fault, but this was never issued as recall. We never got ANY letter from Ford. For people like us that have low miles, ONLY get oil changes at Ford regularly, should not be punished for bad installed parts. Camshaft phasers need to be recalled.

Transmission is hard shifting both when up and downshifting which causes vehicle to slip or spin out in wet or slippery conditions. Ford Dealership has technical service Buliton 24-2101 which identifies a problem with the hard shifting. At this point they are not offer a recall. Online this hard shifting issue is listed as as a problem on many Forums. Also, ford does has a recall on the same transmissions in the F250 model but not the F150 model from what I understand. The Ford Dealership gave the Following Assessment on the Transmission: Year 2017 Make Model Body Color 02/06/18 License Num! FORD F-150 WHITE DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE AND PARTS #1 - 60F0ATRD: Auto Transmission Diag AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONCERN - C/S: HARD SHIFTIN G. GOING UP AND DOWN. Reference active NHTSA action RQ24005 regarding Ford F-150 pickups with the 6-speed 6R80 automatic transmission from multiple years. My 2017 F-150 with the same referenced transmission is experiencing the EXACT same issues as described in the investigation specifically hard down shifts while traveling at highway speeds of over 70 mph. From my research of user forums I am led to believe the 2017 models should also be included in this investigative action. I have less than 52000 miles on this vehicle and am the only owner. I have gotten estimates from $1800 to $5000 for repair. Of course it is just outside the power train warranty of 6 years but well under if mileage was still being considered. Very frustrating to say the least. Please help this consumer and thank you for all you are doing to keep us safe in supporting everyone with vehicle issues. I have included screenshots from my Ford Pass application of the communicated issue.

While traveling down the highway at 60 plus MPH, my vehicle had shifted out of drive position into almost like a neutral position with the RPMS sky rocketing and then engaging in a much lower gear being 1st. This happening all so fast the vehicles back tires locked up and caused the vehicle to fish tail. This is the second time this has happened. The gear indicator on the dash then flashed between park reverse neutral and drive and manual 1 and 2. When this happens I have to try and pull over putting the shifter in park turning off the ignition and then trying to restart.

Random downshift, loss of engine power, then power comes back at high RPMs then truck recovers. This has happened 3 times. Today, I was driving at approximately 55mph, with no throttle variation, the truck lost power and downshifted. Whatever gear it found it was enough to bark the tires.

The 3.5 Ecoboost engine began making metal rattling on cold startups. Was told the cam phasers needed replacement. Was told no longer under warranty. I have located a customer satisfaction program 21N03. This program replaced these cam phasers under warranty, however only up until January 1, 2023. My truck had just under the 69,999. At 68,204 miles. However outside the January 2023 date. I don't understand why I would be punished because my vehicle has a low mileage yearly use. Ford had acknowledged with again the customer satisfaction program 21N03. Again I feel punished because I did not drive a lot of miles. Bill was $3983.84. In the program they would proration up to 89,999 miles, but again out of the window.

Additionally, the gear shifter was stuck and there was an abnormal sound coming from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as a low-voltage failure and several unknown codes. The battery was replaced but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing belt tensioner and the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.

When merging onto the freeway (60MPH) a wrench icon illuminated and my engine shifted to 3rd gear (limp mode) causing my entire truck to jerk forward. I was then forced to pull off the freeway with my engine RPM's upward near 4000. Once I was able to safely pull off the roadway. I turned off my truck and attempted to turn it back on with no avail. The engine would not even attempt to turn over. I eventually got the truck to start and drove it to the nearest ford dealership to have the now illuminated check engine light code read. The code said "error on the transmission range sensor". Ford cleared the code and sent me on my way. The same exact incident occurred 2 more times and is now having a $1200 repair to the transmission on a part called the "molded lead frame" It appears this same issue is prevalent in the same transmission (6R80) on older models 09-13 and there was a recall issued. my hopes is to bring awareness to NHSTA in order to further the recall for all ford's to have their lead frames replaced before a more significant issue arises when someone is driving on the freeway.

Very scary and I was only going about 25 mph. Had I been in a freeway it could’ve been much worse. Transmission display started glitching in and out. Truck started shifting on its own violently, even screeching its tires at one point. It could not decide what gear it was supposed to be in. I pulled over and turned truck off. Attempted to restart but truck would not start because it apparently did not think it was in park. Tow truck showed up. Vehicle then started and check engine light appeared. Truck was towed to Ford dealer-transmission control module deemed bad and had to be replaced. Problem had happened weekend before and check engine light came on. I took to auto zone right next to where I was and they pulled the code “P0706.” But code was cleared and check engine light went off. I managed to make it home and called ford and told them what truck was doing. They told me there was nothing they could do without the check engine light on to diagnose it and to keep driving it until it happened again and the check engine light came on. The next weekend was the first time I had attempted to drive it because I did not feel safe in it.

According to my local Ford Dealer, my 2017 F150 3.5 L EcoBoost Engine needs the Cam Phasers replaced. When the engine is cold and started it creates a metal “rattle” sound for a few seconds practically every time now. My motor has 131,348 miles on it. Ford previously had a recall 21B10, 21N03 and 21N08 for this issue but according to my call to Ford Motor Company today, December 4, 2023, the recall program is closed. I have a Ford Case Number that was provided to me today during the call. Therefore they cannot help me at this time; even though they previously did a nationwide recall for certain other models and model years for this engine. When I checked my VIN in your recall database, I could not find a Cam Phaser Recall Notice or that a repair had been previously made. Please investigate to determine if Ford Motor Company should issue an updated or another public safety recall for those vehicles that may have been missed or not repaired during the previous recalls.

My F150 has been diagnosed to have faulty cam phasers which is a known problem. Ford claims my truck is not part of their recall. The year and where it was manufactured fits the criteria of the initial recall. Ford is unwilling to recognize the fault cam phasers.

There is an issue with the transmission slipping or not engaging properly. There is a strong and often loud jolt with a hard shift at times. It will also simply not engage in the next gear other times. I can be pushing down on the gas and you can hear the engine revving but the truck isn't picking up speed. This has been the most dangerous part of the transmission issues. If I'm pulling out to cross an intersection or turn onto a street and the truck isn't moving, my family is in extreme danger of being hit by oncoming traffic. The vehicle was looked at for this issue at the Ford dealership, Mel Hambelton, in Wichita, KS previously. The issue seemed to be better, almost non-existent, after I believe they reset some code. The problem has returned in the last couple of weeks and is much worse. We have an appointment Nov. 1st to have it looked into again. I don't feel very safe driving my vehicle and we couldn't get it in for at least 3 weeks to the same dealership so we are using the Ford Dealership in Hutchinson, KS to hopefully get it fixed sooner. There is no warning/check engine associate with this issue.

I was driving at highway speeds (60mph) in congested traffic on a road with a steep incline with no shoulder when the truck suddenly went into limp mode when it downshifted. The engine went to idle and I had to coast to the far edge of the right line before coming to a stop. Multiple cars around me had to take evasive action. This could have been catastrophic if I had been crossing an intersection. Similar reports online indicates issue with the Electronic Throttle Body which creates an error that causes the truck to go into limp mode. Turning the truck off and back on again reset the condition so I could safely pull off to a side road to further evaluate. The limp mode feature is entirely unsafe and places the safety of the vehicle's mechanical components over the safety of the occupants. I would rather damage or destroy my engine in the process of safely exiting the roadway than come to an unexpected stop in an unsafe location.

Oct 5, 2023

When the auto start/stop function kicks back on at a stop light, it often causes the truck to lurch forward suddenly. Then, it occasionally cuts out, momentarily stalling the vehicle in the middle of the intersection. After a couple of seconds, it re-engages and takes off. The lurching is jarring and potentially harmful; stalling in an intersection is dangerous.

Ford 10R80 transmission suddenly began slipping in 10th gear while on an Interstate highway traveling across a mountain pass. This resulted in a sudden drop in speed from 75mph to 45mph. I was able to resume forward travel at highway speed by selecting a lower gear and avoiding 10th for the duration on the trip (2 hrs). The wrench icon was displayed and the an error code of P07F7 (10th gear incorrect ratio) was set in the OBD system. The transmission temperature gauge remained in the normal zone throughout the incident. Upon inspection I observed that transmission fluid had been spraying the undercarriage area. Local AAMCO dealer confirmed no 10th gear engagement and fluid had vented from vent hole atop transmission. Transmission was rebuilt with new CDF drum, valve body, torque convertor and typical wear parts. Mileage was 129,860 and transmission had received a fluid and filter change previously.

I am filing this incident with you before I take my 2017 Ford F-150 to my local Ford dealership tomorrow. My truck was parked on a church parking lot September 3, 2023 . The truck was placed and left in park. I walked away from the truck and walked into a building went upstairs. According to the church security video my pickup truck started rolling across the lot until it was stopped by flower bed timbers just short of the Church Sanctuary building. I was upstairs and happened to look out the window and saw my truck in the flower bed. It was still in park!!! Thirty minutes later and a group of small children would have been crossing that area. Already my Ford dealership is telling me because my vin shows no recall (even though other 17/18 pickups have this issue) they will not cover the diagnosis or repair. How many more trucks like mine are out there? I am frustrated. Ford may or may not be aware of this. That is why I am reaching out to you. I do not trust them. 1

Transmission does not complete all shifts and becomes neutral for extended time, unresponsive to throttle demand. Transmission spontaneously downshifts (ex 7-2) at speed during steady state operation and no throttle demand. Transmission stays in high gear when stopped and won’t pull away. Transmission exhibits extremely harsh shifts while moving. All conditions are intermittent and unpredictable.

I was driving on the highway when my truck randomly began to sound as if it was in high idle like if I had it in neutral and was still pressing on the gas peddle. A wrench light came on as well as my engine light and I immediately lost power. Once I pulled over and placed it in park all the warning lights disappeared and my truck was fine again. Then it happened a second time but this time it almost caused the person from behind to hit me. I finally got to my destination and my truck was once again fine as if nothing happened. Few days later I was on the highway and it again happened. This time I had to utilize my insurance and have my truck towed back home. It has been an ongoing issue with my gears wanting to slip or feel like they don’t want to engage. Even with my truck constantly shifting hard. I contacted Ford and I am being told that ultimately Im still responsible for charges. I know this is an ongoing problem with the manufacture and I know I am not the only person with an f150 having this issue. I am writing this complaint because it can be a dangerous situation, especially around heavy traffic.

On April 28th, 2023 at approx. 1800 this Ford F-150 malfunctioned yet again. While traveling east on Interstate I-70 in a construction zone near Saint Clairsville, OHIO, this F-150 was set on cruise speed for the construction zone. This F-150 shifted from 8th gear down to 3rd gear. This uncommanded and unprompted change of speed injured my neck and nearly ended my family's life and the lives of others. The 18 wheeler carrying thousands of gallons of fuel behind me NEARLY clipped my rear end. As this change in speed was did not included BRAKE LIGHTS, because I did not hit my brake pedal. This F-150 is a danger to society and will certainly kill a construction worker, police officer, or any one near it. Perhaps it will take out a critical bridge or other important infrastructure????? I just hope it doesn't kill a presidential motorcade. This truck is a hazard. I am NOT in control of the truck at highway speed. I will not be accountable for the impending disaster this truck will cause. YOU ARE! This F-150 does have the 10R80 transmission, so you are aware of the danger. What are you going to do???? My son has name this truck "MURDER TRUCK", he fears riding in it. He refuses to risk his life in this F150. Please contact me NOW. [XXX]. The corvair was recalled for far less. Simply driving this....is the danger/hazard. I know you don't give a [XXX]. So [XXX] you for doing nothing. So my 2017 F-150 keeps having transmission problems. I've been to the dealer 3 different times in the last 2 months. I took it in the first time for the control module malfunction and a bang from under the driver seat. The dealership came back to me with a quote for 11K worth of repairs. EBS control module was the problem not the transmission. Drove the truck around 150-200 miles and took it back for the transmission issue again. They came back this time with oh it's the valve body of the transmission. That get's fixed. Have the truck back 3 weeks or so and the WRENCH light comes on, which is a problem with the powertrain. I will never own another FORD vehicle again. I'm the only owner of this truck. I've paid 10K out of pocket to get it fixed and it's still not fixed. Even though the light is on they say there weren't any codes for that. Mechanics aren't like they used to be. If the laptop doesn't tell them what to do they are clueless and have no idea what to do. Really Pissed Off Customer.

Truck’s powertrain control system detected an issue with the transmission shift solenoids not responding as expected - causing the transmission and drive functions to fail. The failure resulted in my transmission being shot - and the need for a full transmission rebuild. My safety was put at risk because the truck lost complete loss of driveability, and ability for shiting of gears. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's agent, Holman Ford of Maple Shade, NJ. I received a number of warning alerts from the Ford Pass system beginning on March 24, 2023. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure.

2017 FORD F-150. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPLACMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION.

Mar 28, 2023

While driving through Portland Oregon in heavy traffic on a multi-lane highway at 65 mph the transmission suddenly shifted down violently shaking the entire vehicle. This happened at least three times within a mile or two before I could get into the outside lane. By then it seemed fine. Luckily no one rearended me and I did not hit another vehicle. No engine light came on at any time. It spent a month at the dealership, but they couldn't locate the problem because there was no code. I had shoulder replacement surgery and could not drive for eight weeks after the truck was available. Two days after I was able to drive, the warning light came on, but would go out if you turned the engine off. This happened intermittently over several weeks until I was able to get it home with the light on and use my code reader. The code was P0741 for a transmission clutch problem. Returning to the dealership, they diagnosed it as a bad torque converter and valve body. No converter is available at this time and no idea about when in the future it will be available. I'm concerned that when they replace the part it will still be the same as the defective one and not a reengineered one. I was lucky enough to avoid an accident and I've found many instances where other consumers have had similar issues with this transmission. Some consumers have even filed lawsuits. I might not be as lucky the next time if the problem is not solved.

The transmission on this truck is awful. I’ve taken the truck to the dealership twice already. The last time I took my truck to the dealership was in January and they had it for 6 weeks to work on several issues. Mainly for the transmission because it was shifting very rough and makes a loud noisy going from one gear to another. After I got my truck back in February, the problem occurred almost immediately and has only gotten worse. I called my service writer at the dealership twice and left voicemails and haven’t heard back yet.

Wednesday. 22 March 2023: While driving on the Hwy 83 By-Pass accelerating up an incline, the F150 shifted from 6th gear to 3rd gear. It did not downshift to 5th or 4th. It went directly from 6th to 3rd gear. When it did this the truck went from 55 mph to skidding the rear tires (almost a complete stop) before the truck moved forward in 3rd gear. During this immediate deceleration instance, (where my sternum bounced off the seat belt) the "dummy light" Wrench icon appeared as well as prompts on the dashboard indicating there were faults with Blind Spot System and Cross Traffic System. I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle off. Due to the immediate deceleration and loss of traction with the road surface, if there would have been someone following behind me or if the roads were icy, there would have been an accident for sure. I (as well as the Ford dealership) were able to pull scan codes P1702 and P0706 (both codes are transmission faults) that historically directly correlate with a faulty Molded Lead Frame. The Molded Lead Frame is currently a Ford Recall for 2011-2013 Ford F150 vehicles. Although, this should extend to 2014 and above vehicles as they use the same 6R80 six-speed transmission. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to this incident that would have indicated any transmission faults or issues. The dealership has confirmed the Molded Lead Frame is the cause of the erratic shifting.

F150 will not shift out of gears. Example, stays in 1st gear, regardless of speed. Ford dealer said it was a "Molded Leadframe" transmission problem at first, then decided to "reprogram" the computer to eliminate the shifting problem. Problem returned a few weeks later. Now shifts immediately into 7th gear (instead of 1st) and stays in that gear only. Ford dealer is not able to acquire the "molded lead frame" part to repair my vehicle. This problem was subject to an earlier year recalled which does not cover my 2017 vehicle.

Mar 14, 2023

Transmission started skipping at just over 70K miles. Mainly in lower gears (1-4), but has also dropped from 10 to 1 while traveling on the interstate. "Wrench" illuminates periodically detecting a Powertrain malfunction. This goes away once the vehicle is off for several minutes, but the problem still exists. Dealership ran a "re-learn" on the transmission that failed to work, indicating an internal failure. Options are to replace the transmission, or tear it down and find/fix the problem (4-5 months of downtime).

Feb 20, 2023

While traveling down the interstate at the posted speed limit of 70 MPH in the fast lane, I experienced the vehicle immediately hesitating without pressing the brake and a loud grinding noise in the front drivers side and caused me to put on my brakes, change lanes and drive off to the side of the road. The grinding stopped and then it happened again about 20 more miles down the road. I was able to get it to the Ford dealership and was told it was a defective IWE Check Valve which attempted to put my vehicle into 4 Wheel Drive. As a result, I had to replace the Front IWE and the new & improved IWE Check Valve which was designed to prevent this from happening in the future. For obvious reasons, I became upset that a known issue with defective IWE check valves causes this event to occur. After exploring the internet for this same exact problem, I found this has been going on for more than 5 years. I now have the "corrected" part, but my major concern is that while I did not get into an accident this time, what is to prevent it from happening to someone who may not exhibit the same composure and causes their vehicle to crash into someone else and death or injury is caused and could have been prevented with a relatively cheap replacement part.

Feb 8, 2023

I had the F150 in for service on 1/26/23 for a unrelated repair to the driver seat, upon leaving the dealership and pulling on a 5-lane road the engine/tranny would not climb in rpm and the tranny started to go up and down its 10 speeds erratically and thumping into different gears. I quickly pulled off the road. I noticed the "check engine light" came on. I shutdown the F150 for a few minutes and restarted. "Check engine light" still on. I drove in parking lot and it was still doing the same issues. Since dealer was only a football field away I drove there. They put it on the code tester and it said valve body bad. Unfortunately for me the F150 can't be driven like this and the ONLY mechanic that could work on it was out for training. He did not verify trouble and order part until 2/6/23. The dealer, as of filing this claim, still has not informed me when parts will be in and when repair will be completed. My concern is that if this happens in heavy traffic it could cause an accident. Plus, there seems to be many issues with transmission and Ford seems reluctant to get it fixed correctly - read the internet. My vehicle only has approx. 45,000 miles in it. Ford should be required to extend warranty to 10 years 200,000 miles.

No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the variable camshaft time unit PCM reprogram for cam phaser rattle needed to be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21B10 (variable camshaft time unit PCM reprogram for cam phaser rattle) however, the manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 39,150.

Truck shifts out of gear. One time doing 70mph, shifted to neutral. Second time, engine stalled while on train track. The issue is the Transmission Range Sensor, or Neutral safety switch. Ford knows about the issue, affecting many thousands in USA. Same safety concerns. I have a 2017 model. Ford has recalled the 2021 model for same exact issue. In order to fix the issue, the sensor needs to be replaced. Unfortunately this part is on back order for multiple months. Ford is not offering a remedy to the thousands of us as it is out of warranty. But this is literally a life or death issue.

Jan 18, 2023

In November of 2021 the transmission started clunking and having difficulty shifting gears. It became worse as a week's progressed I took it to the dealership where they claimed it was a recurring problem in the 10 speed transmission so they claim to have rebuilt the valve body. I obtained the vehicle back after a week and it seemed to run fine over the next 10 months and now the last 2 months It has started again and gotten worse. I currently now have an appointment at the Ford dealer next Monday the 23rd of January 2023. This is my only vehicle and not having it for a week now 2 weeks is unacceptable.

Dec 29, 2022

Truck downshifts periodically from 3rd to 2nd gear or from 4 to 3 of 4th to 2nd, for no reason, while keeping speed same on flat road. This causes tire squealing action in some cases and is unsafe. Also, at the same time, rear motion sensor system failure light comes on with an OK button. I select the button and then a wrench sign lights up indicating service requires. Sometimes also a check engine light comes on. Sometimes also the display showing what gear truck is in goes blank, or flutters through all gears. Sometimes a fan/generator comes on as well for no apparent reason. Sometimes the truck is goes in to no gear at all (neutral?) while I am moving. I pull over, restart the engine and the problems usually go away. This problem was reported to 2 Ford dealers (Cella and Bergey) on about 7/2022 and 8/2022. They gave me very different assessments of the problem, the most expensive being a new lead frame ($1,300) Problems originally started around 3/2022. Truck has about 35,000 miles on it.

Nov 23, 2022

Lucky, I was at a stop light when my wrench symbol came on. My gear lights when blank and I lost all power. Turned off and on and was able to limp into a parking lot. Where I shut it off and it wouldn't turn back on. Towed to Ford where I found out that it's the transmission casing. They have had my vehicle in the shop now for almost 2 months. They keep losing the part. I was 6,000 miles out for the 60 000 miles warranty, so it's all on me. They have almost 7000 of the same part on back order, so who know when I'll get my truck back.

Transfer case bolts (dissimilar metals) are causing galvanic corrosion to aluminum transfer case. Transfer case is actually corroding away and will cause component failure and or/leaks of internal fluid when corrosion causes a hole in the case. Transmission bolts may be experiencing the same issue as well.

Sep 2, 2022

Transmission abruptly shifted down to 1st gear while driving thru a busy intersection. P/R/N/D and gear indicators all starting flashing different positions. Truck came to a fast stop and nearly caused a wreck. My neck still hurts. Gear wrench displayed on dash and check engine light. Took almost two minutes for truck to restart, in the middle of intersection. VERY Dangerous... It generated codes P0706 and p0707. I tried to order the replacement Transmission Lead Frame assembly from Ford and parts man laughed at me and said join the list. They have over 15 trucks in the shop right now waiting for that same part. Sounds like this should be a HUGE recall before a death occurs on the road.

Aug 22, 2022

My 2017 Ford F150 XLT 3.5 Ecoboost, 10 speed transmission, experienced catastrophic failure recently during a cross country trip from Arizona to South Dakota. Upon driving through Colorado the transmission began shifting very loudly and hard, with a jerking action. The transmission began to shift out've gear into neutral and the engine would increase rpms uncontrollably. Additionally, the truck would roll forward while in reverse and backward while in drive . The Truck would stall in the middle of intersections creating a very dangerous situation if oncoming traffic was approaching. The truck is dangerous to very dangerous to drive. We eventually got the truck to a dealer in Winner, South Dakota, where it is awaiting repair, scheduled for Sep't. 7th and 8th, 2022. All of the above occurred 8/10 and 8/11 of 2022.

Aug 16, 2022

Over the last 6 months the vehicle randomly downshifts to first or second gear while driving. This causes unexpected jerking, as if the brakes were suddenly pressed. At typical road speeds this has caused dangerous situations where the vehicle slows suddenly and/or swerves, putting myself and my passengers, as well as other vehicles in my vicinity in danger. This happens frequently, nearly daily. Sometimes the wrench light will come on on the dashboard, indicating to contact service. The local Ford dealership diagnosed the problem as a faulty Leadframe in the transmission, which I understand was recalled by Ford for the 2013 models. The issues I'm experiencing are exactly the same as what was reported for the 2013 models. I have been waiting on a replacement part from Ford for 2 months. My dealership said there were 5 local trucks recently with this same issue. My truck has 81,000 miles and is out of warranty, but I believe this issue is dangerous and should be covered as a warranty repair or recall.

Jul 10, 2022

The issue starts with a check engine light that gives an error for the bank 2 being stuck closed. This issue is with the intake manifold that is equipped and what happened is that the pin that is in the bank 2 is weak from the stamp that the manufacturer puts on it which eventually causes it break. Once it breaks it causes major safety issues while driving down the road, it sends codes that the motor is overheating although it wasn’t. So when that happens it causes the whole truck to shut off unexpectedly. When looking to get this repaired, you have to replace entire manifold on the truck; and there are not parts available to purchase for this issue. This is a common occurance for that model and engine and at this time my truck has been in drivable and unrepairable for 4 months.

1. Torque converter failed per Ford Service Technician. 2. My safety is more mental of not knowing if this will lead to a complete mobility failure while traveling and be stranded. 3. The problem has been reproduced by a certified Ford Service Technician at Crossroads Ford of Sanford NC on 07/06/2022 4. The truck was inspected and diagnosed by by a certified Ford Service Technician at Crossroads Ford of Sanford NC on 07/06/2022 5. There was no warning lights of the issue. The issue began approximately in February 2022. There's a jerking motion sometimes at takeoff from a dead stop as well as a slow roll and excelleration. There's a rumbling /shudder when excellerating even at 55 mph .

Vehicle: 2017 Ford F150 10 speed transmission 3.5L engine I was driving on Route 22 Westbound toward Pittsburgh, within Weirton city limits. The speed limit is 60MPH and I was traveling at 60MPH when truck (unprompted) switched gears to 1st gear. This caused the truck to lunge to nearly a complete stop on the highway with NO warning or brake lights. Only by God's grace did my family survive. I have contacted local Ford garage for service. I am afraid of the cost, as I believe the transmission shredded itself with this unprompted and dangerous shifting of gears. I am contacting you to report dangerous product. Please recall this death machine.

Jun 9, 2022

On two occasions, my 2017 F150 failed to restart after the auto stop/start shut the engine off. April 29, 2022, I stopped at a crosswalk to allow pedestrians to cross. My truck auto stop engaged and the engine stopped. I took my foot off the brake peddle to continue driving and my truck would not restart. Error messages flashed telling me to restart my truck. After attempting to restart my truck, nothing happened. All electronics continued to work (radio, air conditioning, power windows, etc.); however despite numerous attempts to restart the truck, it would not restart. Three pedestrians had to assist by pushing the truck off of the street to a parking lot as it was blocking the flow of traffic at a very busy intersection. As I sat waiting over two hours for a tow truck and periodically attempted to restart the truck, around 2 1/2 hours later the truck restarted and I drove it to the dealer. The dealer noted that the truck may have restarted since it "had time to reset". The dealer checked the truck but could not get it to replicate the problem but did note an error code of p164c. They made no attempt to offer any solutions or probable cause for the issue. We continued to drive the truck and had the auto stop/start issue repeat itself on May 8, 2022. The same scenario happened where the truck went into auto stop during a complete stop and failed to restart. Again, the truck was on an open roadway and impeding the flow of traffic. After numerous attempts to restart the truck, the truck continued to not start while all electronics continued to work. My husband was driving the truck this time and was able to use a tool to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to "reset" the truck. We then drove it to the same dealer who again reviewed the issue. They again concluded that since they could not replicate the problem, they could do nothing to fix the issue to avoid the problem in the future. This is a safety issue as it is extremely dangerous to stop in moving traffic.

Jun 6, 2022

Hard shift “clunk” transmission, most often when decelerating low speed, gears 3-5. Happening since I purchased the truck. Risk is the truck lurches or slows, leaving the driver unsure of next operational behavior. I have had the transmission oil and filter replaced, which did not resolve the issue. Took to Ford garage and unable to replicate but have heard of this issue from other 10-speed owners. My truck has not been inspected by a regulation body. Anyone like myself that would drive my truck in normal conditions would find this issue, while random it’s still present. I am concerned about my safety, my wife who drives and resale. I receive no warnings lights or any indication the issue is about to happen or just did. Very concerned.

May 19, 2022

The engine rattles on cold start. It has been diagnosed with a cam phasers failure issue. The truck has 74000 miles on it and has had regular maintenance. This is an ongoing known issue with Ford and this engine. How has Ford managed to get away with not having a recall for this?

May 12, 2022

At 56,000 miles Anti freeze started to disappear from reservoir. After refilling it, noticed 2 weeks later an empty coolant reservoir again. Truck gave a "misfire" and "turbo charger " code. 8 weeks later truck had cylinder heads replaced.

Apr 26, 2022

Merging on interstate in heavy traffic when transmission would not shift out of 1st gear, traffic was heavy and I had several really close calls of getting run over. The dealership service manager (Supreme Ford Slidell,La.)said the transmission control module is bad. Repair cost will be $1,858.00 and no recalls on my vehicle. I’ve had Ford trucks all my adult life and I’m severely disappointed with this issue

Mar 29, 2022

Bought vehicle used 9 months ago and had no problems, warning lights or malfunctions prior to incident 3/9/2022. Driving 50 mph in 5pm rush hour when automatic transmission of 2017 F-150 suddenly decelerated. It downshifted hard on its own and slowed to 25 mph on a busy one-lane interstate entrance ramp. It then lurched forward violently and accelerated back to 45mph. Fortunately, the driver behind me was alert and did not slam into me. The gear selector indicator became non-illuminated, transmission gear display disappeared, plus orange wrench check engine sign appeared on dash display. Those displays then intermittently come on/off every few miles. Vehicle managed to maintain modest highway speed however engine was very loud, revving high rpms at slower speed on side streets. Limped home and shut vehicle off. Tried to restart hoping computer would reset but nothing engaged. There was charge/lights but no crank or start; truck didn't even attempt turnover. Vehicle towed to Bob Allen Ford in Overland Park, KS. Was told 'range sensor' in transmission failed which informs vehicle when and which gear to be in. That part sits inside of a 'lead frame' however, unless repair was for covered warranty period Ford was not making it available to dealers. Was told this is known issue with F-150s and earlier models (2011-2013) had been recalled. Service Advisor had to secure another more expensive component called 'body valve’ that contained both aforementioned parts and cost about 3x the actual failed component. Five days and $1800 later F-150 was repaired. This problem persists and goes uncorrected by Ford despite reports and recalls of prior year models. Sudden and sporadic braking/acceleration by THE VEHICLE is dangerous and could lead to serious injury or fatality to occupants and others. Knowing this is an issue (i.e. previous recalls) and refusal by Ford to provide parts for repair is unconscionable and places undue financial strain and risk to people.

Mar 23, 2022

On my 2017 Ford F150 I have had repeated issues of delays when changing gears. In the past the dealership has replicated it and has uploaded several updates and even reset it which helped for a while but it always comes back. Going from 3rd to 4th gear is the current problem and when pulling out on a highway going 0 to 55 you cannot have your vehicle stall like this. The risk of being rear ended or worse is great. The dealership acts like they have no idea why this happens and cannot replicate the issue. It does not happen everytime and seems random so I have no idea how to get it to replicate. Very frustrating and unsafe. The vehicle does not show any warnings and the dealership says the diagnostics do not show an issue.

Mar 23, 2022

Shift indicator light will flash and go off. Check engine light and wrench light comes on for coded P0706, P0707, P1702, P1921. U0401. Needed range sensor. Shifted when it wanted to and quit altogether then start back up. Had range sensor replaced.

Mar 10, 2022

There has been a recall on the Transmission's Lead Frame for certain years of the F150 with the 6r80 transmission. I have that same exact transmission in my 2017, and I am now having the same exact problem everyone else is having with that Lead Frame. But according to Ford due to the year of my truck I am not a part of that recall. So now I have a truck I am paying for that is not working and the part that I need to get it fixed is on back order due to the recall. So how is it that I am having the same symptoms and the same recalled part needs to be replaced but my truck is not covered by the recall. That does not make logical sense at all!

Feb 4, 2022

Transmission slipped out of gear on numerous occasions during a clattering sound. Good thing it has not happened yet when pulling out into traffic. It happens most often between 2nd and 3rd gear when starting out.

Feb 1, 2022

While attempting to accelerate from stop, vehicle would not accelerate. Vehicle was stuck in 7th gear and did not have enough power to accelerate through intersection. Cyclic vibration while maintaining constant speed. No vibration when coasting. Erratic shifting that causes jerking motions during gear change.

Jan 21, 2022

Harsh shifting up and down, never shifts into 2nd gear jumps from 1st to 3rd and 3rd to 1st possibly unsafe on ice and snow packed roads. Shift lag intermittently.

Nov 20, 2021

My transmission started slipping and went completely out on a 2 lane busy highway. I had and still have NO transmission. I've driven mostly highway miles. No towing. Done all the proper maintenance. I now find out via my regular mechanic and subsequently checking the the internet that Ford F150 models 2017 - 2019, 10 speed transmission have had this problem including hard shifting (which I experienced) slippage of transmission. And to add to my frustration....the shops tell me....Ford needs to fix the issue and it will never be fully fixed. Regardless, most Ford shops want nothing to do with fixing the problem. I've only been able to get one shop, Larry Miller Ford in Lakewood....yes one to call me back and I have to wait over a month. So, I am having to rent a car to get to work....which costs me $1,200. And Larry MIller already told me....yes, this is a common problem....the fix will likely be between $ 900 to $2,000 fix. And NO....even though it's a common problem on Ford 150, Ford is NOT doing a recall. Come on....do your job.....put pressure on Ford to do a recall.

Nov 17, 2021

The transmission failing slips out of gear randomly when accelerating from a stop. Extremely long hard shifts that make the slam the vehicle forward. On occasion it will fail to downshift at all while braking, this has created several near miss accidents because of zero acceleration. Example being a on 55mph road, having to slow drastically or stop (truck was in 5th gear needed to be in second or 1st due to speed) .car in front of me turns causing a braking situation (not stopping) but leaves me and my family vulnerable to drivers approaching from the rear . If the road is wet, and the vehicle randomly drops the gear, in turn causing the vehicle break traction At random times. When attempting to pull out from a stop sign or a side road if the transmission slips or stutters and there’s oncoming traffic, there is a strong chance of being involved in an accident.

Nov 3, 2021

Problem started in May 2021 at about 70,000 miles. Initially truck would idle rough at stop lights, stop signs, and when parking RPM dropping to 500 not all the time. Then in August 2021 progressively got worse and even started idling rough and stalling at intersections, stop signs, and parking. When there is a lot of moisture in the air it is worse. One rainy night it stalled at three intersections in a row. You have to put vehicle in park and put some pressure on gas pedal to keep RPM's up. Someone is going to get hurt very bad in a accident or on the freeway from these trucks stalling out. My truck is currently in the dealership and they are initially saying they see no issues as there are no codes. Online there are many many of the same issue reported. All with the exact same characteristics of rough idle then stalling and no codes or check engine light.

Slopping shifting. Lunges forward at slow speed shifting. Hard down shifting at times.

Aug 19, 2021

2017 Ford F 150 5.0 6 speed 4x4 transmission failed at 93000 miles in February 2021. Torque Convertor was replaced. August 13 2021, vehicle went into limp mode at highway speed and slammed into low gear causing a sudden slow down on the interstate. Wrench light was on and no gear selector indicator working. Was able to drive to dealership for diagnoses but no time availability until October 2021 or mid November 2021. Vehicle towed to AAMCO and diagnosed with Range Sensor Issue. Cannot order part due to being on back order. Suggested repair is full remanufactered transmission with 3 year 100k warranty. Vin number is not identified as being part of latest TSB or EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THIS ISSUE.

Why is nothing being done with the ford 10R80 transmission and the shifting issues. I would hate to have my transmission lock up on the highway, because ford says it's normal for the loud clunking and banging when is shifts I see there are many class action suits involved in this issue but still Ford is doing nothing

Jul 22, 2021

The 10-speed transmission has had issues smoothly transition gears since I acquired it in early 2017. For years I have dealt with constant rough shifting, random clunking while driving at low speeds but now the issue seems to have progressed to the transmission sticking at higher speeds. I was driving recently at about 45mph and rpms just started roaring and it would not transition gears. The truck was in drive when this happened. When it finally did grab there was a hard thrust and threw the vehicle forward. These issues are present all of the time. Every time I put it in gear there is a clunk and a thrust. I have had the truck into the dealer numerous times over the 4+ years only to be told it was the adaptive transmission trying to learn how I am driving. Now, the dealer is so backed up with transmission-related issues they require you to leave your vehicle for 7+ days before they can even look at it leaving the consumer stranded without a vehicle. They should have all of the service records.

Jun 2, 2021

Transmission was shifting erratically, making it difficult to keep the proper speed on the thruway. Once I was able to pull over, the reverser gear stopped working, creating a hazard while I was trying to park in a busy parking lot. I am taking the car in this week to see what the issue is.

WHILE DRIVING AT 40-50 MPH MY TRUCK ENCOUNTERED A HARSH ROARING SOUND AS IF IT WAS GOING OFF THE ROAD. I HAD ALSO ENCOUNTERED HARD SHIFTING FROM 4 TO 5 AND 6 GEAR. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE 3 WEEKS BEFORE THEY COULD LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HE WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS BAD. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED IN 2017 WITH 6000 MILES AS A CERTIFIED PRE OWNED FORD TRUCK WITH 100K WARRANTY. I HAVE 98K AND NEED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY.

THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED TWO TIMES. THE 10R80 TRANSMISSION IS KNOWN TO SHIFT ERRATIC AND CAUSE THE TRUCK TO RANDOMLY PICK GEARS. IT WILL ALSO RENDER THE GAS PEDAL USELESS. THIS WILL CAUSE YOU TO BE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. IT WILL HOLD A GEAR AND THEN SLAM INTO THE NEXT GEAR AND SOMETIMES IT WILL STAY IN 3RD OR 5TH AND TRY TO START OFF THAT WAY. ITS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IT TOOK FORD OVER A MONTH TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. NOW IT IS IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND IT HAS BEEN THERE FOR OVER THREE MONTHS AND IS STILL THERE.

VEHICLE MAKES VIBRATION STYLE NOISE FROM THE REAR RIGHT SIDE DURING SPEEDS OF 40-50 MPH WITH MINIMAL ACCELERATION AND/OR DURING LOW RPMS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP SERVICE SHOPS ON 4 OCCASIONS DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD WHO ALL CLAIMED IT WAS A NORMAL SOUND. RESEARCHING ONLINE DURING THAT TIME WAS POINTING TO POTENTIAL MISALIGNMENT IN THE REAR-DIFFERENTIAL DURING MANUFACTURING. CONDITION CAN BE REPLICATED DURING DRIVING CONDITIONS, BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 40-50MPH, LIGHT APPLICATION OF GAS PEDAL AND DURING LOW RPMS. CONDITION EXISTED FROM TIME OF PURCHASE THROUGH PRESENT DAY.

3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE DIED WHILE ACCELERATING MILDLY ON A HIGHWAY AT 55 - 60MPH. NUMEROUS FAULT LIGHTS CAME ON, INCLUDING SERVICE ENGINE SOON, ADVANCE TRAC, AND VARIOUS OTHER. I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT, PLACED INTO PARK, SHUT OFF IGNITION, AND RESTARTED. ENGINE SHUTTERED VIOLENTLY, SO I TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED 10 MINS. RESTARTED FINE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED 'HIGH PRESSURE PUMP RING GASKET DUE TO DEFORMATION AND SUSPECTED VACUUM LEAK'. 2 WKS LATER, WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON INTERSTATE AND ENGINE CUT OUT AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND MERGING TRAFFIC. I COASTED TO A STOP, TURNED OFF IGNITION, AND RESTARTED. AGAIN.. THE ENGINE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND AS I TRIED TO PULL FURTHER INTO MEDIAN, THE BRAKES COULD BARELY STOP THE TRUCK FROM MOVING DUE TO HIGH REVVING ENGINE. HAD TO TOW TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP 3 HOURS FROM MY HOUSE! BACKLOG WILL TAKE OVER 1 MONTH TO REPAIR!

I JUST BOUGHT THIS 2017 F150 FROM DEACON JONES FORD AND 4 MONTHS LATER I'M HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. AFTER DRIVING FOR A LITTLE DISTANCE, WHEN I STOP AND START DRIVING AGAIN I NOTICE THE RPMS GO CRAZY AND IT WON'T SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT GOES TO 5TH GEAR AND JERKS AND GOES BACK TO 2ND GEAR AND SLOWLY GOES UP. I JUST HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND TWO WEEKS LATER THIS STARTS. I TRIED RESEARCHING IT AND NOTICE FORD HAS SOME ISSUES WITH 2017-2019 F150 TRANSMISSIONS. SO I LOOKED TO SEE IF THIS TRUCK HAD ALREADY BEEN INSPECTED WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND IF IT WAS FIXED. I'M ABOUT TO GO ON A 10 HOUR DRIVE TO TDY TO A MILITARY BASE AND I NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE AND WON'T GO IN LIMP MOD. THANKS JOSEPH

GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM 4WD HUBS, LOCKING HUBS ARE ENGAGING DURING OPERATION AT CRUISING SPEED 20-35 MILE PER HOUR. IN 2WD, DRIVING MY VEHICLE, AT NO GIVEN TIME A GRINDING NOISE WILL ANNOUNCE ITSELF AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE 2WD/4WD HUBS. I BELIEVE WITH THIS ISSUE IF THE 4WD OFFICIALLY ENGAGES WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE FATAL INJURY AND DAMAGE MAY OCCUR AND CAN CAUSE OPERATOR TO LOOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE CAUSING A CRASH AND OR DEATH.

AT 31K MILES I STARTED TO GET A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE RIGHT SIDE REAR. TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID IT WAS DUE TO PLAY IN THE AXLE BEARING. THEY SAID FORD TOLD THEM NOT TO TOUCH IT BECAUSE IT WAS AN INHERENT CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. I CALLED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND FORD TOLD THEM THERE IS NO PROBLEM. WHEN THE TRUCK FLEXES ( GOES OVER UNEVEN ROADS ) IT SOUNDS LIKE ROCKS ARE BOUNCING AROUND THE BED. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ALL TRUCKS, JUST SOME. THE DEALERS HANDS ARE TIED. FORD WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM.

MY 2017 FORD F150 HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, BUT FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO HONOR THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR OR REPLACE IT. THE DETAILS OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED ARE DESCRIBED IN ONE OF TWO PDF FILES THAT I WILL ATTACH TO THIS SUBMISSION. I BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING MAY BE WIDESPREAD AND THAT FORD DEALERSHIPS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY MAY BE REFUSING TO REPAIR OR REPLACE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS BECAUSE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THEIR DEALERSHIPS TO DO THIS WARRANTED WORK. ONE OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THE TRANSMISSION IS IN MY OPINION POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND LETHAL. ON DECEMBER 24, 2019, WHILE MERGING ON TO A BUSY HIGHWAY FROM THE ON-RAMP, WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN SPORT MODE, MY TRUCK DID NOT ACCELERATE AS I ENTERED THE LANE ADJACENT TO THE ON-RAMP. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE RPM DIAL WENT UP TO ABOUT 6000, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE SPEED OF MY TRUCK DID NOT INCREASE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME IN THIS LANE TO ALMOST REAR-ENDED ME. HAD THIS OTHER DRIVER NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION AND FAILED TO APPLY HIS OR HER BRAKES, A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN VERY COOPERATIVE AND HAS EVEN OFFERED TO REPLACE MY VEHICLE WITH A NEWER AND MORE EXPENSIVE ONE (WHICH I DECLINED), FORD MOTOR COMPANY (WITH WHOM I HAVE TRADED EMAILS ABOUT THIS) APPEARS SO FAR TO BE UNCONCERNED AND CONTENT WITH THE CONCEPT THAT AN APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION IN AT LEAST ONE (POSSIBLY MILLIONS) OF ITS F150S COULD COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF ITS DRIVER. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED.

THE 2017 F-150 RAPTOR HAS 31,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE LAST 5000 MILES THE TRUCKS 10 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS STARTED TO SHIFT UP AND DOWN WITH ABRUPTNESS. THE SHIFT IS NOISY AND HARSH TO THE POINT THAT THE WHOLE TRUCK JERKS AND LUNGES FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. THE TRANSMISSIONS ALSO SHIFTS DOWN REAL HARD SO AS TO CAUSE THE PASSENGERS THE FEELING THAT THE TRUCK HAS BEEN REAR-ENDED BY A ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND TAKING A LEFT TURN ON A FLASHING ARROW INTERSECTION IS VERY DANGEROUS. FORD SAYS THIS IS A NORMAL BEHAVIOR OF THE TRUCK ALTHOUGH FOR THE FIRST 25,000 MILES NONE OF THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES EXISTED. THIS IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM.

ON 01-24-2019, I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND NOTICED AN ODOR COMING FROM MY 2017 FORD F-150 TRUCK AND SAW SOME SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. A MOTORIST NEXT TO ME POINTED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK; I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND HE SAID HE THOUGHT THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER THE TRUCK. I PULLED OVER, SHUT OFF THE TRUCK, SAW A SMALL FIRE ON THE FRAME UNDER THE ENGINE. THE OTHER MOTORIST PUT IT OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. A STATE POLICE OFFICER CALLED THE FIRE DEPT. WHO FURTHER EXTINGUISHED THE SMOLDERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENT AN ADJUSTER WHO CONCLUDED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED PINON SEAL IN THE DIFFERENTIAL, WHICH IS PART OF THE POWER TRAIN. THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT OF FORD MOTOR CO. (OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL) STATED THAT THE FIRE OCCURRED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON PAVEMENT IN 4WD. I ASSERT THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE AND IS A TACTIC OF FORD MOTOR CO. TO AVOID HONORING THEIR PRODUCT WARRANTY OR TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD.

FIRST EVENT: WHILE I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM THE COUNTRYSIDE ON A TWO WAY ROAD ' SINGLE LANE -, I OVERTOOK A BIG TRUCK ON AN UPHILL AREA, AND ALL THE SUDDEN MY TRUCK DIED. LOST ALL THE POWER AND I HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY MANEUVER TO AVOID THE BIG TRUCK I WAS OVERTAKING AND ALSO THE CAR THAT APPEARED AT THE CURVE AHEAD. IT WAS CLOSE. I ALMOST CRASHED. AFTER CALMED ME DOWN, I STEP OUT OF THE TRUCK, OPENED THE CAPOT WHILE THE ENGINE WAS IDLING AND MAKING THIS HUGE 'VALVE' NOISE. I TOOK MY PHONE AND RECORDED A VIDEO. SOME COMPONENT ON A SIDE OF THE VALVE COVER WAS MOVING AND MAKING THAT NOISE AND ALL THE SUDDEN, I SMELLED GAS, LOOKED DOWN THE SCAPE MANIFOLD AND SAW GAS ALL OVER IT. I RAN BACK TO THE CABIN AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, TOOK THE EXTINGUISHER AND RAN BACK TO THE CAPOT. FORTUNATELY NOTHING HAPPENED. SECOND EVENT: WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AT 120 KM/H, ON A PRETTY FLAT AREA, THE GEAR SHIFTED FROM 10 TO 7 WITH NO REASON AT ALL, AND I FELT LIKE THE TRUCK STARTED TO ACTIVATE THE BRAKES. THE HIGHWAY WAS CLEAR IN FRONT OF ME. NO CAR OR OBSTACLES WERE NEAR THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. SECONDS AFTER THAT, THE ENGINE STARTED TO FAIL, DROPPING THE RPMS LIKE THOSE OLD MECHANICAL CARBURETOR STUCK WITH A DIRT AND SUDDENLY, ALL GOT BACK TO NORMAL. FORTUNATELY WAS ALMOST REACHING THE TOLL CONTROL TO ACCESS TO MY CITY. SO I SLOWED DOWN TO 50 KMS/H, PUT MY FOOT ON OVER THE BRAKES AND STARTED TO PRESS IT VERY GENTLE. SUDDENLY AND WITH NO WARNING, THE TRUCK SPED UP ITSELF FULL GAS AND I HAD TO DODGE A CAR THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME DRIVING ON THE LINE TO THE TOLL AND PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD. SEVERAL LIGHTS INVADED THE DASHBOARD; LOW COOLANT, CHECK ENGINE, THE DASH BOARD DIMMER LIGHT AND OTHERS THAT I COULDN'T SAW ON THIS FAST FLASH OF LIGHTS. IT WAS LIKE THE CPU WAS CRAZY. AFTER THAT, TRUCK WENT BACK TO NORMAL, BUT SEVERAL OBD2 ERRORS GOT STORED.

I OWN A 2017 FORD F150 4X4 WITH THE 3.5 ECOBOOST ENGINE AND THE 10 SPEED TRANSMISSION. A FEW DAYS AFTER WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK HOME, WE NOTICED A VERY LOUD CLUNK THAT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED. THIS SAME CLUNK IS ALSO HAPPENING ON 2018 F150S AS WELL, WITH THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND THE 10 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS ISSUE IS GOING TO AFFECT THE LONG TERM SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE, SINCE METAL STRIKING METAL IS NEVER A GOOD THING WHEN IT COMES TO AUTOMOBILES. HERE IS A LINK TO THE FORD F150 FORUMS WHERE MULTIPLE OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE ON 2017 AND 2018 F150'S: HTTPS://WWW.F150FORUM.COM/F118/SINGLE-CLUNK-WHEN-STARTING-ENGINE-383628/INDEX7/ HERE ARE SOME VIDEO LINKS I POSTED ON YOUTUBE, THE FIRST IS OF A 2018 F150 4X4 I RENTED WHILE ON VACATION MAY 2018, V8 10 SPEED TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER WHILE ACCELERATING THRU AN INTERSECTION. THE ORANGE WRENCH ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH WITH "CHECK MANUAL". I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING DOWN AND UP SMOOTHLY. IT TRIED TO START THE TRUCK OFF IN 5TH GEAR FROM A STOP. AFTER BEING SHUT DOWN FOR AN HOUR, THE ISSUE WENT AWAY. DEALER SCANNED IT THIS MORNING AND SAID NO CODE WAS STORED.

WITH THE VEHICLE IN PARK, WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE RESTING ON THE TRANSMISSION'S PARKING PAWL, OR RESTING ON THE PARKING BRAKE, WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED, THERE IS AN INTERMITTENT CLUNK THAT CAN BE HEARD. IT CAN VARY FROM NO CLUNK TO A VERY LOUD CLUNK THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM 40FT OR MORE. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN VEHICLE IS HOT, COLD, DRIVEN SHORT DISTANCES OR LONG DISTANCES, ON AN INCLINE OR NOT. THE 3 DEALERSHIPS HAVE REPRODUCED THE ISSUE, BUT HAVE CALLED IT NORMAL OR A CHARACTERISTIC. ONE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DIRECTOR SAYS HIS DEMO VEHICLES MAKE THE SAME NOISE AND THAT ADDING BIGGER TIRES AND A LIFT KIT MADE IT WORSE. HE ALSO SAID AND I QUOTE "BECAUSE ITS NOT ABNORMAL, THERE IS NO FIX". HE STATED THAT FORD TECHLINE SAYS ITS NORMAL AS WELL. 4500 MILES ON VEHICLE, NEVER TOWED ANYTHING, ONLY NORMAL CITY/HIGHWAY DRIVING, NO LONG TRIPS EVER TAKEN. WAS TURNING LEFT AT INTERSECTION AND TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO SLIP, TRUCK STILL MADE IT THROUGH, I THEN NOTICED THAT A YELLOW "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON, I ASSUMED THIS WAS FOR MY UPCOMING 5K MILE OIL CHANGE. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF THE "SLIP" AND ASSUMED IT WAS AN ANOMALY. I THEN GOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THE TRUCK WAS BEHAVING STRANGELY, POWER WAS INCONSISTENT, I ATTEMPTED TO PUT IT INTO CRUISE CONTROL AND IT REFUSED TO ACTIVATE. I GOT OFF OF HIGHWAY AND TURNED LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION, STARTING FROM A COMPLETE STOP THE TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD AND THEN SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND STALLED OUT IN THE INTERSECTION. IF A CAR WAS COMING I WOULD HAVE EASILY BEEN STRUCK. I LET IT SIT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY GOT INTO, AND STAYED IN, FIRST GEAR. AT FIRST IT WENT INTO GEAR AND THEN SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. THIS "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS APPARENTLY A LIMP HOME MODE, ANOTHER COMPLAINT, BESIDES THE STALLING, WOULD BE THE FACT THAT THIS LITTLE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT DOES NOTHING TO WARN ME THAT THE TRUCK IS ACTUALLY IN AN IMPAIRED STATE, A "LIMP" MODE. I WORK IN THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY AND THIS WOULD NEVER BE TOLERATED, A FUNCTION THAT HAMPERS THE NORMAL PERFORMANCE OF YOUR VEHICLE SHOULD BE EASY TO RECOGNIZE AS A WARNING, A LITTLE YELLOW WRENCH LOOKS LIKE A SERVICE LIGHT.

VEHICLE IS PRESENTLY OUT OF SERVICE FOR IT'S 3RD REPAIR ATTEMPT OF THE SAME TRANSMISSION RELATED NON-CONFORMITY AND HAS BEEN SO FOR GREATER THAN A CUMULATIVE 30 DAYS AS OF 10/4/17. THE SAME SAFETY ISSUES OCCURRED UNDER IDENTICAL DRIVING CONDITIONS MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHILE IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE VEHICLE'S 10 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP IN 7TH GEAR. AT THE EXACT TIME THIS DEFECT OCCURRED THE 'CHECK ENGINE' ALARMS AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS SOUNDED. THEREAFTER, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO DOWNSHIFT OR UPSHIFT FROM 7TH GEAR NO MATTER WHAT SPEED. THEN VEHICLE ENGINE STALLED COMPLETELY ONCE MANEUVERED TO AN EXIT RAMP AND SLOWED TO A POINT WHERE 7TH GEAR COULD NO LONGER SUSTAIN FORWARD OPERATION. THERE IS A DOCUMENTED 1ST REPAIR ATTEMPT APPEARING TO BE THE IDENTICAL ISSUE BUT WAS MADE PRIOR TO MY TAKING POSSESSION OF THE NEW VEHICLE. THE SECOND OCCURRED ON 8/29/17 AT 427 MILES ON VEHICLE. AND THE 3RD ON 9/14/17 AND HAS BEEN IN SERVICE THROUGH PRESENT DAY. TO DATE REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAVE INCLUDED IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER: REPLACING "ALL 4 SPEED SENSORS TO TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSMISSION INTERNAL HARNESS"; REPLACING "TCM - TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE"; AND IN PROGRESS (INCOMPLETE) REPLACING THE TCM "HARNESS". THE FIRST TWO REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAD ZERO POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE SAFETY RELATED NON-CONFORMITY, AND THE 3RD 'IN-PROGRESS' STILL HAS YET TO BE COMPLETED PAST THE 30 DAYS OUT-OF-SERVICE PERIOD.

Apr 13, 2017 Crash

I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 56 YEARS, WHEN I GET OUT OF AN AUTOMATIC VEHICLE I PUT IT IN PARK EVEN WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING. ON 4/5, I PARKED MY TRUCK (CITY GOVERNMENT VEHICLE) MOTOR RUNNING, TO PUT RAINGEAR IN MY PERSONAL VEHICLE. I PLACED THE TRUCK IN PARK OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR, GRABBED MY JACKET AND WALKED TO MY PERSONAL VEHICLE (15 FEET AWAY) AND PLACED THE JACKET INSIDE. I THEN WALKED BACK TO MY CITY TRUCK, OPENED THE PASSENGER DOOR GOT MY RAIN SLICKER FROM THE FLOOR BOARD, CARRIED THE SLICKER TO MY PERSONAL CAR AND PUT IT INSIDE. I WALKED BACK TO THE TRUCK, SHUT THE TRUCK'S PASSENGER DOOR, WALKED TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE TRUCK TO GET TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN COMPLETELY STATIONARY TO THIS POINT AND AT THIS MOMENT DROVE ITSELF FORWARD INTO A PARKED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF IT. I WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE. DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES WAS MINOR. THE TRUCK'S GEAR SHIFTER WAS IN "D". A POLICE REPORT WAS MADE. ONE WOULD NATURALLY ASSUME IT WAS DRIVER ERROR AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN PARK. I TOO DOUBTED MYSELF UNTIL I DISCOVERED FORD'S RECALL OF 2017 F250 TRUCKS. I MAKE THIS COMPLAINT TO YOU, THE NHTSA. A COWORKER WITNESSED THE ENTIRE INCIDENT AND REPORTED IT TO THE POLICE. THE CITY TRUCK WAS STATIONARY FOR OVER A MINUTE, AND AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS FROM THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE INCIDENT, I CANNOT LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE WITHOUT THE TRUCK MOVING FORWARD ...
