In June 2025 and again in December 2025, when my truck stopped at a Red Traffic Light and I applied my brakes to stop the vehicle, my two rear wheels/tires started to spin rapidly non-stop for 60 seconds or the duration of the traffic light, causing a great deal of smoke and noise. My truck acted like a "Drag Racing" machine on a short track revving its engine and spinning its tires for a very short burst of speed down the track. Cars behind me kept their distance and I thought my truck would bolt forward at any time causing a serious accident. I applied my brakes as firmly as possible, praying my truck would not lose control and bolt forward into the lane of traffic. In June, my mechanic thoroughly inspected my vehicle for four hours, going on a test drive, pulled off all the wheels and checked every pertinent component, ran 3 diagnostic code assessments and found nothing. When it happened again on December 11, 2025, I contacted another mechanic who told me he could not address the issue since it was a known Ford Issue and to contact NHTSA and Ford (PE25-002). Finally, there were no warning lights on my dashboard when it happened during these two incidents.
I purchased a 2017 F150 in March of 25’. Miraculously no issue started until approx 4000 miles after the purchase. The dealer warranty was good for 3500. In the months that preceded issue after issue began to arise. First and least important in my personal opinion. I get in my truck to head to work and my sliding back glass is laying in backseat, completely intact with the track it slides on. One would initially think the GA sun maybe warmed the adhesive to such a Temp that it came loose but my truck is parked in the shade every day at work & at home. Insurance won’t cover it because they say it’s on Ford. Next I have lost power steering, when loosing it i have apparently lost all of steering, uphill downhill assistance an approx 10 other warnings that come every time i crank it. I have been driving the truck 7 months now with no power steering. Lastly and most important, the 10 speed transmission is completely faulty. The problems with it started in July. When accelerating from a stand still, like pulling on the road or highway, over 50% of the time the transmission just fails and you are a sitting duck for any oncoming traffic. Typically 2-4 secs later, the truck will catch of sudden with such a jerk it will give you whiplash. So once you made it through getting on the highway without dying, every shift of the transmission from 4th to 10th, the truck shutters and shakes so bad it seems like it will fall apart. The engine light will start flashing and you can’t go faster than 40-45 for about 15 secs until the engine light is solid again. Then while shuttering you can’t attempt to increase speed. I contacted Ford, I was completely blown off, they denied that 2017 f150 have any transmission issues. I’m forced to drive this daily because I spent all my savings on this truck. Oil change, along with oil filter have been kept up every 5,000 mi. I out everything into this truck and now I have a duct tape back window, no power steering and a transmission faulty.
Fords around the 2017 year have an issue with their backup cameras not working which is the issue mine is having. When putting truck in reverse backup camera is fully fuzzy with green lines or just goes fully back. It still beeps and can detect something close, but the actual camera doesn't work anymore.
Vehicle was sitting in driveway running. I turned on the front and rear defroster to clear windows before driving. Approximately 60 seconds after turning on rear defroster, the back window shattered. Multiple reports online indicate this is a common occurrence in F-150 and should be looked into further.
Rear sliding glass window track pops loose which is extremely common with these and should be fixed by ford. I’ve had mine fixed twice already. It’s unsafe and unfair for this many customers to have this issued and ford not warranty it or recall it.
I work on route 95 doing road construction and I am usually running highway speeds. When leaving work heading up 95 the truck threw itself in second gear out of nowhere. Almost got hit in the fast lane because I could not maintain speed and RPM’s went to 7500. Had to pull over turn the truck off and on and it was fine. It can drive fine for a few hours or a few minutes then the transmission will downshift again out of nowhere while just throwing up a wrench light when it happens that then turns off. It has happened about ten times now. Sitting in driveway. Nice truck to scary to drive.
Since purchasing this vehicle from a dealership, I have had repeated problems with getting a blue screen on the rearview camera when truck is in reverse. This results in no visibility for backing up other than mirrors. A soft reset would often resolve the issue. However, now it is nothing but a blue screen. Why is the recent recall not including the F150 trucks?
Transmission makes a sudden hard down shift..... and it always throwing codes ... well maintained but getting too expensive.... 2017 F150 ecoboost 3.5... jumped into lump mode while between 2 semi trucks and one one my side also.... I held down on the throttle so that it wouldn't stop in between the semis and finally had a chance to pull over.... turn my vehicle off... it drove normal but now have another code... possible misfire.... cylinder 1 and 4.... last month it was cylinder 3... I've talked with Ford on helping with the bill they said they don't do that... but offered me some other things that may be covered undered some other recall.... every other month it's something... ooo yeah, had cam phaser done also.... out of pocket... can't find the cam phaser bill but if you need it I can request a copy from the mechanic shop.... 2017 Ford F150 with 2.7 Ecoboost Since Oct 2024 thru Present Error code P2450 with Check Engine Light Same issue with 2016 models and there are no recalls fore the 2017. WHY??? After vehicle sitting off fore shoot periot check light comes on with same error code Looks like your FIXD Sensor showed Engine Code P2450 on your 2017 Ford F-150 Definition: Evaporative Emission System Switching Valve Performance About Engine Code P2450 Indicates a malfunction with the evaporative emission system switching valve, specifically its performance or operation, which may lead to incorrect fuel vapor management within the EVAP system.
Sudden jerking movements when accelerating and braking. Needs new transmission. Reading there have been many reports of 10R80 transmission issues with Ford
Driving interstate and a wrench warning came up on dash screen. I knew that wasn’t good. Two Local mechanics diagnosed as circuit A (transmission) needs replaced. Park light not illuminating and won’t even crank to start. I got it started , finally, and wrench came back on. Loud “thunk” noise when switching into reverse Was advised NOT to drive until repaired as it is dangerous to me and others Recall was issued for 10 pin and needs to recalled for 6 pin ASAP Ford is welcome. To check it out anytime as I just have it setting waiting on recall. I need a truck, please issue recall
Transmission downshifts and back tires locking up.
I was driving on the PA turnpike and upon hitting a pothole or bump the mount on the frame that the lower control arm bolts onto broke off. I was going under the speed limit with two small children in the car and a piece of my frame broke off after a slight bump. Every mechanic and person I speak to at ford is saying it shouldn't have happened and they can't believe it. There was no warning and I drove onto the turnpike got almost all the way home before it randomly broke. I spoke with Ford and they are unwilling to help after running my VIN. They say unless I put a complaint in and you open a recall that they will not help me. This is a 2017 truck with minimal rust it should not be breaking off a simple bump on the highway. I had a 9 year old and a 10 month old in the car and the front left of my suspension broke away from the vehicle after routine driving. Something needs to be done about the situation ford should be more concerned they have a frame break on such a new vehicle. Thank you for your time.
Back up camera does not work blank blue screen or freezes up or graney view can't see any possible hazards behind vehicle.
My 2017 Ford F-150 is experiencing an oil pan leak. F150 model is equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. This is a lack of RTV adhesion at the oil pan seal. My dealership wants over 1k to fix which I refuse to pay. This issue was created by poor engineering and craftsmanship on Fords end and the consumer should not have to pay to fix this known issue. I understand there is a fix that involves a 1-piece aluminum pan, as seen on many you tube videos. I'm requesting that Ford be held responsible for fixing this issue and not the consumer, who paid a lot of money for this truck. Any help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated.
When the vehicle is started, the cam phasers rattle, and yes, it is available for inspection upon request. Ford mechanics and other mechanics have stated that if not replaced, the cam phasers will eventually fail. This puts others at risk as the auto start/stop feature shuts the engine off anytime the vehicle comes to a stop. If the cam phasers failed while stopped in the road, the vehicle would not start back up, causing a rear end collision and possible injury/death to anyone on the road. The problem exists in the 2015-2018 Ford F150 3.5L ecoboost. Ford resolved the issue in the 2019 model F150 by replacing the cam phasers with ones that are built with better quality. I am unsure if the vehicle issue has been inspected by others. There have been no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It first appeared in my vehicle around this year.
I was driving on [XXX] in Dallas when the top track that holds the rear sliding window became detached from the inside of the truck, causing the sliding glass window to fall forward and into the vehicle. This window falling created a void causing me to have to pull over and repair it the best I could. I have since learned that Ford used double sided tape and a small amount of adhesive to attach the track to the vehicle. I have also learned that this is a very common problem with this window track system. My truck is being inspected by Ford this morning, but I was told that there are no active recalls for this defect. There was no advance warning for this window failure. The moonroof gets stuck while I try to close it and stays open
For the 4th time I am driving my truck, unexpectedly out of nowhere the transmission shifts, tires lock up, I am perked into the steering wheel and can't accelerate over 15 mph. Cars forced to dodge around me, horns blowing and I have no choice other than creeping on side of road until I decides to move. Please do something about thus hazard before something more serious happens
Backup camera inoperable, unsafe
On March 30th I filed a complaint #11654561. Since that time the vehicle has progressively gotten worse. Traveling at approximately 55 mph the tires suddenly locked up/stopped rolling at normal speed, jerked the truck and I was flung forward. the vehicle would not go over 15 mph AGAIN! Then, on [XXX] I was traveling home approximately 65 mph and truck downshifted and wouldn't move beyond 20 mph. This is getting out of control that I continue to have transmission problems with this vehicle. Talking with a Ford representative he said many problems have been with the transmission conductor plate, there is a defect and having it replaced with any product other than the Ford piece seems to resolve the problem. This is incredible, Ford is telling me what the problem is and won't fix it. How many other people are going through this same problem and we as Ford customers are being scammed of safety repairs. My truck is invaluable to trade in and I'm terrified to drive it. Please, hear my distress and help with a recall to fix our vehicles. Additionally, I just bought this truck approximately 7 months ago. For the 1st 30 days all was OK but as soon as I started traveling at higher speeds this problem appeared. I am afraid for not only my safety but for other drivers if this truck continues to act not safe in traffic. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2017 F-150 Platinum Supercrew 4WD Recently Purchased from dealership, drove for 2k miles and started having engine knock. Did research and found identical sound, Cam phaser knock/rattle. This is still a high priority issue and a known issue as it can cause engine failure and manufacturer is unhelpful and unwilling to investigate and/or offer guidance. I talked to dealership that preformed the “recall” previously and they stated that no part was replaced and ford issued a software update to use as a bandaid instead of a permanent repair. It will cost upwards of $6,000+ to repair through dealer and ford refuses to be of assistance. I am requesting that the NHTSA reinvestigate the issue and open back up a recall request to the general public due to it being a safety concern. If the engine implodes on the highway, it can cause a major accident and/or fatal injury to many drivers.
Transmission will change gears while driving. I can be driving 45 mph in traffic, truck will automatically shift and I'm now going 15 and cannot speed up. There is no warning lites on dash before issue occurs. Called dealership who had no solutions to offer. I cannot be the only one experiencing this issue from reading online forums and Ford needs to be held accountable for faulty equipment. This is a safety issue in traffic for my family.
Composite oil pan gasket failed causing a leak of oil which also saturated the fabric liner under truck which broke do to oil saturation. It is a safety issue with the plastic oil pan as well as the liner. Do to oil leaking can cause a fire and detachment of liner which can damage other drivers. Available for inspection if it can be done soon dealership confirmed leaking and ongoing issues with oil pan on ford f150 3.5L ecoboost turbo. No symptoms until oil light came on do to composite plastic oil pan gasket and plug failed liner detached and can be a serious fire hazzard, environmental, and poor engineering by Ford. It was reproduced when I left the dealership only to return immediately. Engine light came on.
Paint is peeling and falling off due to a manufacturer defect and causing a driving hazard.
Drivers side door will not shut in cold weather. Unlock/lock switch will not work.
My 2017 Ford F-150 demonstrates every single aspect of an existing recall for 2017 F150 vehicles. However my VIN number is not included in the recall. My truck shifts suddenly in and out of gear causing me to have momentary instances of no power. This has happened, for example, turning left on busy roads with acceleration disappearing in critical moments. The vehicle downshifts suddenly on occasion. The gear indicator moves rapidly between gear 10 and gear 1. The vehicle routinely does not downshift to 1st gear at stoplights. The vehicle often shifts hard from gear to gear. The vehicle sometimes cannot go to the next gear, say from 7 to 8, and will be in some version of neutral during this time before finally connecting. Electronic issue plague this particular vehicle. All of these items have been noted in the existing recall. I am requesting an expansion of the recall to include all 2017 Ford F150's with 10 speed transmission. Ford dealer has indicated I need to replace the transmission for close to $10K. And they noted they see this problem constants - showing me a stack of folios in their repair facility for the same reason. The problem has been diagnosed by Ford dealer and an independent qualified transmission specialist shop This is an ongoing issue - per the questions below there is no specific date associated with the issue.
Door latch on both front doors continues to intermittently freeze and will not either open or allow the doors to remain closed.
Cam phasers make engine rattle at startup and idle. A recall has been put out but the dealer did not get the issue fix and sold it anyway. Also rear sensors don't work right.
DRIVERS DOOR AND PASSENGER DOOR FREEZES IN COLD WEATHER AND DOES NOT CLOSE COMPLETLY
Oil pan leaking, front oil pan leaking on RH. Valve covers failed for updated oil pan. RTD seal leak. Seen that this is a current recall. But my VIN isn't showing this recall. But I'm having this issue.
I was driving home and noticed that the back mirror light was on. I tried to turn it off using the button, but it wouldn't go off. Confused, I pulled over to the side to check what was wrong and found that the rear sliding glass was leaning forward on my back seat. The track that was apparently holding it in place had come unglued! I could not believe it. It was raining and I was still a one hour drive away from home.
2017 Ford f150 Raptor transmission 10r80 has been many complaints of Ford owners due to safety issues. My truck jerks from Park to drive. Also when driving, the gears don't shift correctly. I'm hoping their is a solution that Ford needs to pay and take care of this transmission problem. As in the meantime I have my Ford truck in the Dealership hoping it can be a Recall.
When driving on hills or moving from a stop to get into traffic the vehicle will go from 4th gear to 1st and won’t accelerate. After this happens I’m alerted with “Powertrain system fault”. This causes a safety issue for me and others because on hills it won’t accelerate and it rolls backwards. From a stop trying to get into traffic it won’t move and becomes a collision waiting to happen. This problem happens very frequently but hasn’t been confirmed or inspected yet. The only warnings are “Powertrain System fault” No systems and first appeared late June of 2024
The thin decorative steel cover on the wheel lug nuts are cracking at the corners and deforming to the extent that they would be difficult to get off with the provided tire wrench in a roadside tire failure. My tire shop had to drive a socket on, then drive it off.
While I am driving my vehicle the speed drops while I’m pushing on the peddle. After a few seconds the gear catches itself and I can drive at normal speed.
Rear window shattered this morning during start up. I auto started the vehicle this morning at approximately 3:35. When I went out to get on about 7 minutes later, smoke bellowed out the door. I quickly shut off the vehicle and opened the hood, nothing indicated an issue.m but when I walked around the vehicle I noticed the rear window buldging out and shattered, the window was hot to the touch.
2/29/2024 driver side tire was flat 3/1/24: I wanted to put the spare so that I could take the fire for repair. But the factory issue lug nut wrench does not fit. How can you do this to people? This is ridiculous 3/2/24 I went to the store to buy a nut remover This should not be allowed to happen and you get away without giving the customer a proper tool
After takimg.my ford to the dealership to correct the frozen door latch issue , my doors are still latching. This is a serious safety issue as the door will not latch properly and you have to hold the door closed to get the vehicle home. All 4 doors experience this latch issue. I have had to tie my door closed with a cell phone charger cord just to get the vehicle home. This is unacceptable with the price of vehicles
I had the recall repaired on my 2017 F150 in 2022, for the freezing door latches not latching and letting the door stay closed. I did have issues with it in ’23 but it was only once or twice and I didn’t do anything about it. I had issues with the latching again this winter (Jan. 2024) and had a new problem where the door would not UNLOCK and just brought it into Ford to maybe have them do a recall fix on latches again on it but they said there is nothing they can do. It is our only vehicle right now and my wife is currently pregnant and my main concern is us needing to leave in an emergency and not being able to get the doors open because of the locks or then having them not able to stay shut cause the latches won’t work.
When I use the brakes, the doors open and passengers fall on the roadway. Then get struck by passing vehicles. It hurts when getti ng run over. Plus it sucks when the doors open randomly in traffic.
Door lock fails. I have to climb out windows to exit vehicle in an emergency. The locks are frozen.
Door opens but will not latch and hold when you shut the door.
On12.26.23 I entered my 2017 F150, closed the door, and the rear window shattered, causing glass to enter the back seat- falling on my child who was seated in the rear. I called the local Ford dealership because my truck is under warranty to 100,000 miles. The dealership said they refer people with that problem to a local glass shop. I took it there to be repaired, total cost with tax was $1067.00 There were no warnings, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to this happening. ***this submittal has an area to attached the service invoice- this function will not work for me, but I do have the invoice if needed.
Hit from behind. Rage driver attempted manslaughter trying to force us into high speed traffic. Hit us a 2nd time. Driver hitting us refused to yield information; name, address, insurance, registration. Obtained via Oceanside Ca. Police incident # 2300118069. Cause- no accountability due to No Fault Insurance practices
On the morning of 12/12/23 it was a cold morning, the driver side door was frozen the door wouldn't secure. Had to heat up vehicle to get door lock to engage.
My truck's instrument cluster fails to turn on preventing me from seeing mph, fuel level, etc. Ford has a recall number(17C01) for this exact issue but my vehicle's VIN is not included
The driver side door would not unlock by either using the key fob or manually using the key in the door. This seem to occur in cold weather. It was 20F this morning and the vehicle was parked outdoors. This has occurred multiple time, so I though I’d report. If by chance the door unlocks, the latching mechanism will not function, nor will the locking of the door, so can’t drive until the car is well warmed up, usually 20 minutes of idling with the heater on. I have backed out of my driveway and the door is not latched, and opened when turning right.
THE FRONT DOORS HAS ISSUES SHUTTING AND STAYING LATCHED. I WENT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN THIS AM AND THE PASSENGER DOOR FLEW OPEN. I STOPPED TO SHUT IT AND THEN NEITHER OF THE FRONT DOORS WOULD SHUT AND STAY SHUT. I HELD THE 2 DOORS SHUT WITH A BELT TILL I COULD TURN AROUND AND GET BACK TO THE HOUSE
Recall for cam phaser. Our truck meets all the criteria and it needs fixed. We did not receive Lester in 2021. Called ford twice and talked to manager. They said to get ahold of you.
The rear sliding window top rail has dislodged itself and the sliding window is now loose and does not create a proper seal.
Rear window exploded sitting in my closed garage. Did a lot of research on it and apparently this has been happening to numerous people dating back to 2010 on all the f series picks. FORD refuses to issue a recall. CHILDREN CAN BE HURT BY THIS. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE.
No warning back seat driver window exploded while we were driving 65mph. Middle lane hwy83 April 14 at 9 20 am. We had just turned Ac on when we heard what sounded like a gunshot. There were no bridges or trucks near .We noticed a softball hole in middle of window all the rest of window was still there. No glass inside the cab. Pulling over to side of highway we noticed glass in bed of truck. We contacted the dealer immediately who said no recall! Contact your insurance.
Symptoms of clock spring failure in steering wheel (buttons only working on half of steering wheel, horn not working). There are recalls for this same issue on other model fords where at appears the airbag may be implicated. There is no recall for this on my model year, and ford could not provide insight as to whether my airbag was also implicated
i have a 2017 Ford F-150 I bought in April 2022 with 113,000 miles on it. I need a turn signal bulb replace on the passenger side and that was done and then I found out I have a recall on the vehicle since May 2022. Never received a recall letter-nothing! Now I find out that I have a water pump leak, oil pan issues, gasket by the motor is leaking. I have had the vehicle less than a year now have 119,000 miles on it and have all of these problems and the dealership did admit that the F-150 Ford truck have had and are known for oil pan leaking issues and have not let anyone know. Underneath my truck it was saturated with oil and I found at least 25 complaints online and at least 95 more that I did not print out. How can I have a vehicle less than a year with not even 7,000 miles on it and have all of these problems? One mechanic said they thought the dealer who sold it knew about the oil pan leak as bad as it was and the other person at a car dealer in the service department could not say yes or no but thought it was unusual. I would like the company checked into and see if they did knew about the oil pan leak and the recall and I was not notified by letter before I bought the vehicle that there was a recall. It showed on the bill of sale and when I asked about the recall on the bill of sale they said it was taken care of as far as they knew. I feel I got a vehicle that had things wrong with it and was never told. Is it because I am a 80 year old person that needed a vehicle I feel I was taking advantage of. I just wanted to have something I could trust with no problems. Can you help or no?
Oil pan is leaking and was told that it was a common problem happening. I believe this is unsafe that can leave my family on the side of the road. Yes the problem was confirmed by the dealership service department and was told it has been a problem. There was no warning lamps before this problem. I know that the repair will be $1,100 which I will pay for that on Friday when I pick up the truck.
Driver and passenger front door’s locking mechanism would not latch in freezing temperatures. Doors would not latch and caused a safety issue. This has not been reviewed by dealership.
Doing cold weather, the driver side door locks has frozen on several occasions causing the latch to become inoperable to latch. As a result, I am unable to lock the door after closing it and the door swings open before moving the vehicle. I have not been able to schedule an appointment at this time. The vehicle was purchased used from Carmax in Brandywine, Md., on March 22, 2022. I was informed that the vehicle had passed a full inspection prior to the sale. There were no warning lights or recall notices issued regarding the vehicle.
The driver’s side door will not latch once it is opened when the ambient temperature is below 25 Fahrenheit. The door has come open while driving, requiring the driver to hold it shut while finding a safe pull off. It has come unlatched and swung open around corners, even though it was locked.
The oil pan on this model vehicle with a 2.7 L engine does not hold oil. Ford knows that this is an issue and created a new product with an integrated gasket to put on the vehicle. The part will not be available for an entire year. I was told that there are approximately 3300 people on the waiting list for the new part. I have replaced my oil pan four times, including aftermarket parts that are based off of Fords design, and nothing works. My five year old truck is completely undrivable because the oil keeps leaking. Ford refuses to do anything about it in the meantime. I was forced to buy a second vehicle, because this one is not drivable. The oil pan is leaking on all F150s of this model. Ford won’t buy the vehicle back from me either. So my truck will not run due to Fords faulty part design.
When it is cold below 20 degrees, the drivers door won’t latch when closed until the truck warms up inside a heated building or you have the heat on high inside for 20-25 minutes. Having to hold the door closed while driving until it gets warm enough in the car to latch. It has happened the last 5 times I have driven it. It is cold here now. I have talked to other people and mechanics and they have said it happens and possibly going back to all ford cars and trucks back to 2012. I have a ratchet strap I have to use on both front doors to hold them both shut until it gets warm enough for the latch to release. It is not the c latch that hooks onto the post. It is a latch inside that releases the latch. I have not brought it in as there is no recall on this yet and I can’t afford to have them look at it. It can be available anytime to be looked at if needed. There is no prior notice of this happening and then the door ajar light comes on.
Good morning, my Bluetooth/Radio/Sirius/Navigation Screen has been cutting out after I make a hands free call. The GPS shows not working and the radio will not work and the phone will not work. I check online for the issue and numerous people on a variety of cars have said their APIM Modules were shown to be faulty. This is an expensive part to replace, and I have tried the "quick fix" of disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes then reconnecting and it works fine for awhile then begins intermittently cutting off again. It is a safety issue if I should need to make an emergency call and the GPS not working could be a safety issue as well. Is this something that NHTSA is looking at? Are there any "unofficial" recalls on these APIM Modules? Please let me know. Thank you!
I have a issue my Ford F150 under warranty after driving and come to a traffic light or a stop stalls (shuts off)sometimes. And I took it to a Ford dealership for repairs no check engine and they did find anything and stalls come when oil change is needed to be changed. And I am confused what to do I drive my kids in this car this is not safe .
I was sitting in the drive thru with my kids when my daughter said there was smoke from behind her. Shortly after that the back window shattered into many peices onto them inside the car. It’s ridiculous that there has been many complaints of the same issue yet no recall issued.
The lead frame in the transmission is going bad and I have seen this happen on the internet with this type truck. You will be running 60 and it will drop into 1 or 2 gear throwing you into the steering wheel. It is for sure a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to his residence. However, the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact was unable to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after 5 attempts. The contact drove to his residence and parked the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
Mileage: 37,000
Mid December in the morning I hit the remote start and took my dog out to use bathroom and i heard a loud bang and when i came back to the truck the rear windshield had exploded… I have 3 cameras that look over the vehicle and after watching video there was nothing that touched or near the truck.. It just explodes and shattered after remote start. It had a strange smell and the rear window where the wires were at was burnt.
Door latch failure. Caused Driver Door Ajar warning to come on. Ford has issued recall for 2017 F150 model door latch but not for my VIN. May be other Ford F150 owners who didn't qualify for repairs because they didn't report the latch failure.
The truth caught on fire driving down the road with passengers. It started on the passenger side and engulfed the truck. Insurance is investigating it.
On two occasions, my 2017 F150 failed to restart after the auto stop/start shut the engine off. April 29, 2022, I stopped at a crosswalk to allow pedestrians to cross. My truck auto stop engaged and the engine stopped. I took my foot off the brake peddle to continue driving and my truck would not restart. Error messages flashed telling me to restart my truck. After attempting to restart my truck, nothing happened. All electronics continued to work (radio, air conditioning, power windows, etc.); however despite numerous attempts to restart the truck, it would not restart. Three pedestrians had to assist by pushing the truck off of the street to a parking lot as it was blocking the flow of traffic at a very busy intersection. As I sat waiting over two hours for a tow truck and periodically attempted to restart the truck, around 2 1/2 hours later the truck restarted and I drove it to the dealer. The dealer noted that the truck may have restarted since it "had time to reset". The dealer checked the truck but could not get it to replicate the problem but did note an error code of p164c. They made no attempt to offer any solutions or probable cause for the issue. We continued to drive the truck and had the auto stop/start issue repeat itself on May 8, 2022. The same scenario happened where the truck went into auto stop during a complete stop and failed to restart. Again, the truck was on an open roadway and impeding the flow of traffic. After numerous attempts to restart the truck, the truck continued to not start while all electronics continued to work. My husband was driving the truck this time and was able to use a tool to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to "reset" the truck. We then drove it to the same dealer who again reviewed the issue. They again concluded that since they could not replicate the problem, they could do nothing to fix the issue to avoid the problem in the future. This is a safety issue as it is extremely dangerous to stop in moving traffic.
Check engine light came on, took car to certified Ford dealer and found out the intake manifold gasket was cracked. A cracked intake manifold gasket results in poor engine functioning as well as negatively impacts accelerating, endangering both the occupants of the vehicle and those around. This part is on backorder with Ford for over 1400 customers, we are the 1400th so who knows how many in total are actually affected. Ford needs to be held responsible for this faulty part.
I believe the APIM has failed and I'm only at 54000 miles. My Sync 3 is stuck on version 1.0 and CANNOT be updated to the current 3.4 system.
Lug nuts swollen and needs to be replaced
The engine formed a premature oil leak around the oil pan.
Second time this has happened to my truck. First time was in 2020, now it just happened AGAIN in May 2022. Rear window in Ford F150 suddenly popped and shattered for no reason because the defrost mechanism malfunctioned and over heated causing the rear window to expand and shatter. The shattered window was hot to the touch after shattering and there was an electrical fire smell in the cab of the truck. The first time Ford gave me a case number but blew me off and I had to pay out of pocket. This time I have a case number but it is still a hastle and I am getting the run around and am hoping Ford pays for the window in full this time as they did not follow up or give me a reimbursment last time this happened. Ford has a big problem on their hands and needs to remedy this before someone gets glass in their eyes driving down the freeway after the window pops and someone gets killed in an accident.
I was making a turn on a curve in the roadway and truck lost power steering, causing me to fight the steering to keep it in my lane so I didn’t hit the car in the other lane around the curve. Call dealership and I was informed that that it would be over a week or so before they can even schedule me in for an appointment. Took to another shop and they said racks piñon. Be said it could be power steering control module’s
Rear window spontaneously burst no apparent reason everything for that started bulging and then big loud boom
I previously had my door modified per Manufacturer Communication Number: 21M04. This past winter (Feb 2022) my family and I were vacationing in Vermont when it rained and then flash froze. Understandably the water had frozen on the door seals, making the doors difficult to open. However, the drivers side door would not latch shut for hours until the truck warmed sufficiently from the sun exposure and heater run on high. Unacceptable safety hazard rendering my truck un-drivable. (The other 3 doors worked fine.)
Drivers side door does not latch after rain and a freeze. This has happened 3 times. Today was the first time the passenger side door flew open while driving. It seems to be fixed when the car heats up. There was a recall on other versions of the F-150 for this exact issue but apparently not on this one. It seems to have the same issue.
Vehile is parked outside every night. On some cold mornings, with temperatures below freezing, one or more of the door latches freeze shut. Sometimes the door will not open. The most dangerous thing that happens is that if a door is opened and the latch is frozen, the door will fail to latch closed. You try to close the door and it just bounces off the frame of the car. It will not stay closed. I had to drive my kids to school today with one child holding a door shut the entire time since it would not latch closed. Additionally, at these times, the power locking actuators fail to raise or lower the locking mechanism. This does not happen every time there is freezing weather, but it has happened 10+ times over the past ~2 years. Multiple doors are affected.
There is a known problem with the 2015-2020 model year F150s door latches freezing shut, when in sub freezing temperatures, the door will wildly bounce off the truck frame and open/close on a whim. Usually I have either spent extra time in the mornings idling with the heat on long enough for the latches to melt themselves free, stood outside with a heat gun to evaporate the moisture or in a pinch, had to drive physically holding the door shut with a tow strap. This is on a modern, five year old vehicle mind you. The problem has been, at least on my truck, predominantly always the drivers side and passenger side doors until today when it impacted the rear doors of my crew cab. I drive my children (ages 4 & 5) to daycare and kindergarten every weekday. This morning my daughters door, which was seemingly latched shut and fine, swung wide open while turning. Luckily she was in a car seat and tightly in due to the harness but that is 100% unacceptable, dangerous and ridiculous. These latches are going to get a child killed. My truck was purchased in Clearwater FL and never had an issue the 3 years I lived in a tropical climate. I moved to Ohio, and during the summer, late spring and early fall was fine. As soon as the temperature drops for winter the freezing starts and the doors become dangerous. To my knowledge there are no safety recalls for this issue but a number of worthless “fixes” offered by Ford, all of which do nothing to rectify the problem. https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2015-frozen-door-latch-tsb-recall-updated-thread-435339/index122/
Multiple doors have latches frozen open after opening such that when the door shuts it does not stay closed but appears closed. Will open when driving. Latches will reseat themselves after truck interior warms up.
Rear door latch failures in both left and right sides when there are freezing temperatures. Three separate incidents: 12/23/2019 - rear left door latch failure... the door opened, but would not latch when closed. Took to Ford dealership where they applied the 18N03 door latch safety recall service, adding seals, grease, and a clip. 12/28/2019 - just one week after the 18N03 safety recall service, both left and right door latches failed again, where the doors would open but would not latch shut (have recording on iPhone). Temperatures were 33F. Returned to Ford dealership and they replaced both latches under a third-party warranty. 12/21/2021 - both rear left door again would not latch shut in freezing temperatures. Able to latch shut after removing rubber seal from door and blowing hot air in from a hair dryer. Video of issue is on iPhone. 12/29/2021 - called Ford corporate office and spoke with Katelyn. Expressed concerns that the incident is recurring and wanted a permanent solution, given safety concerns. She indicated that she would record the incident in my file but that there is nothing further that Ford is recommending at this point. Will attempt to visit Ford service again to see what they can do, but I remain very concerned given the above history.
APIM failure
Used remote starter; about 2 minutes later my family entered the vehicle with my 2 small kids secured in their child seats in back seat. We left our home, made about 1-mile down the road when back window suddenly popped and shattered. Nothing struck or hit the window to break it. Tiny glass fragments blew onto my children and scared them. The plastic cover on the defroster connection mechanism on the rear center electronic sliding glass window also popped off and the one of the electronic metal connections is clearly broken loose on the mechanism also. No warning messages on dash/display. I did not turn on defroster and rear defroster light was not on at the time, but maybe came on automatically with remote start used. I submitted claim promptly with insurance. Have appointment with Service King for estimate and repair to be made. According to online forums, this unfortunate safety incident with Ford truck and van rear windows has occurred hundreds or thousands of times to Ford owners over the past 10 years.
I started my truck with my remote starter. After letting it run and warm up for a couple minutes, we opened the doors to find cab filled with smoke. I immediately shut off the truck. I than let it air out for a few seconds to see where the smoke was coming from. I seen from standing by driver door it was smoking from behind the rear passenger seat as I run around front of truck to passenger door I hear the rear back window shatter
My safety was put at risk when the the truck would not start after stopping at a light. This happened three times. The last two times on July 18th and August 11th, after shutting off the truck would not restart and the speed limit on each road is 45-55 mph. Police had to come block the road because it was unsafe. The dealer took the vehicle in on Aug 2-6th and advised that it was fixed, only for it to happen again on the 11th. No warning messages were present.
I was driving my vehicle stopped at a red light the light turned green I started to go through the intersection and when I got halfway through the intersection a loud clunk stopped my vehicle in the middle of the intersection I almost got rear ended and then I shut my vehicle off I started it back up and it kept lunging forward the transmission was having issues
My son, Marine LCpl Ryan McCoy, was driving on I95 in Virginia back to Camp Lejeun when he heard a “pop” sound. Assuming something was wrong, he pulled over to the breakdown lane. The vehicle began to smoke and the temperature gauge shot up to the hottest it could register. At that time, he turned off the vehicle and exited. He noticed the front of the vehicles so in flames and began to run away from the vehicle and saw the vehicle violently explode. He called 911. Stare Trooper Joseph Worley arrived and he called a tow truck. When the fire went out, the trooper left without checking to see if Ryan was okay or had a ride anywhere. The tow truck dropped Ryan at the nearest rest stop and the tow truck took the vehicle to Interstate Garage.
AFTER 40 MILE ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVE, I'VE GOT OFF THE OFFRAMP AND CAME TO A RED LIGHT. WHILE I WAS STOPPED MY TRUCK STARTED TO IDLE ROUGH FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AND FINALLY STALLED. NO CHECK ENGINE OR WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED OTHER THAN A NOTIFICATION ON THE DASH SCREEN STATING TO PRESS BRAKE TO START. I THEN PRESSED THE BRAKE AND PUSHED START AND IT TURNED ON RIGHT AWAY. I THEN DROVE IN THE CITY FOR ANOTHER 20 MILES WITH NO PROBLEM AND THEN EVIDENTLY IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I GOT TO A STOP. RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY WITH NO SECONDARY ISSUES. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY KEPT IT OVER NIGHT TO RUN TESTS BUT THERE WAS NO SUCCESS ON RECREATING THE PROBLEM. THEREFORE, NO REPAIR WAS MADE. I DO FIND THIS SITUATION UNSAFE DUE TO POSSIBLE FAULT OCCURRING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR ON A HILL WHILE DRIVING.

THE LATCH ON THE DOORS OF THE TRUCK DOES NOT LOCK WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS VERY COLD OUTSIDE POSSIBLY CAUSING ANY ADULT OR CHILD TO FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE MOVING OR PARKED , THIS IS A CONCERNED AND SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANY AGES . RESPONSE DELAY REQUIRING EYES TO BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD TO ANSWER CALLS, MUTE SOUND, USE NAVIGATION, AMONG OTHER SAFETY FEATURES. THIS HAS MADE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM UNUSABLE AND APPARENTLY IS A COMMON AND KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS SYSTEM. THE ISSUE OCCURS ALL OF THE TIME REGARDLESS OF BEING STATIONARY OR MOVING, DAY AND NIGHT, IN CITY OR ON HIGHWAY, AND HAS MANY TIMES BEEN A HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS OCCURRED STARTING IN JUNE OF 2019 AND CONTINUES TO GET WORSE.

AT 62,000 MILEAGE, THE AC COMPRESSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND BELT THAT I WAS WARNED WOULD SEIZE. I AM A FIRST RESPONDER DRIVING INTO OUR NEARBY MOUNTAIN RANGE. WE DROPPED OFF THE TRUCK AT THE SANTA CRUZ, CA FORD DEALERSHIP ON SEP 28, 2020 AND THE JOB WAS COMPLETED ON FRI OCT 2, 2020. THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED. 10 MINUTES LATER THERE WAS NO AC AS WE DROVE HOME. THIS WAS DURING THE CA WILDFIRE SEASON AND DAILY AQI CHECKS FOR HEALTH HAZARDS. I BROUGHT IT BACK IN ON MON, OCT 5, 2020, THEY SAID THEIR MACHINE WAS BROKEN AND THEY HAD TO SEND IT OUT. WE HAD TO DRIVE WITH OUR CHILDREN IN HAZARDOUS WILDFIRE AIR QUALITY ALL OF OCTOBER WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. THE DEFROST DID NOT WORK EITHER PROPERLY, BLOWS INTO FACE INSTEAD, SO THE WEATHER TURNED ANDRESULTED IN ME GETTING DISPATCHES, DRIVING IN THE DARK THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS WITH NO DEFROST WINDSHIELD FUNCTION. HAZARD. THEIR MACHINE WAS FIXED DEC 18, 2020 SO I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN. IT DID NOT WORK, AND THE AC AND DEFROST STILL BROKEN AS MECHANICS DETERMINED A CONNECTING PART THEY BROKE OFF IN ATTACHING THE MACHINE TO MY TRUCK AND NOW HAD TO ORDER THAT PART FROM DETROIT. I BROUGHT IT IN JAN 7, 2021 AND IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY ALL FIXED. 3 DAYS LATER NO AC OR DEFROST. I WORK WITH A SHERIFF DEPT WHO HAS HAD THIS OCCUR TO THEIR FLEET OF F150'S THIS LAST YEAR, AND BEEN GIVEN THE RUNAROUND WITH SUPPOSED FIX. THEY AUCTIONED OFF THEIR TRUCKS BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER PROPERLY RESOLVED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A POSSIBLE FORD PART RECALL, AND IS A HAZARD FOR DRIVERS.

THIS PAST WEEK, WE HAD A COUPLE DAYS OF 30 DEG WEATHER IN THE CHICAGO AREA IN THE MORNING AND I STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY DRIVERS DOOR. IT WOULD NOT RE-LATCH WHEN I CLOSED THE DOOR. EVERY TIME I CLOSED THE DOOR I HEARD THE INFAMOUS "THUD" AND IT BOUNCED BACK OPEN. THIS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER. I HAD TO DRIVE 12 MILES, WHILE HOLDING MY DOOR CLOSED SO I CAN GET TO WORK. EVENTUALLY IT STARTS WORKING FINE AS THE WEATHER WARMS UP. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A ALREADY A RECALL AND A SETTLEMENT ON THIS MATTER FOR THE EXACT YEAR OF MY F 150, HOWEVER MY F-150 VIN'S IS NOT APART OF THAT. I'VE CONTACTED FORD AND ALL I GOT WAS THERE'S NOTHING THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO DO SINCE MY VIN IS NOT APART OF THE RECALL. SO IN ORDER TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE SAFELY, I NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THIS JUST PROVES THERE'S STILL ISSUES WITH THE DOOR LATCH SYSTEM AND IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN.

THIS IS WHILE STATIONARY, CAR ON OR OFF. WHEN THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AND THE PASSENGERS WANT TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, THEY ARE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. ONLY WAY FOR THEM TO OPEN THE DOOR IS FOR THE PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT SEAT TO PRESS THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE DOOR. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT ACTS LIKE A PERMANENT CHILD LOCK. WHEN TAKING THE CAR TO THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND CALLING 1(800) TO MAKE A CLAIM, THEY SAID THAT IS HOW THE CAR IS ENGINEERED. EVERYONE FROM FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE 1800 NUMBER ALL AGREED THAT IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. EXAMPLE 1: IF THE CAR IS LOCKED WHILE DRIVING AND THERE IS A CRASH, AND THE DRIVER GETS KNOCKED OUT AND THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE BACK SEAT, THE ONLY WAY FOR THEM TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IS TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN AND CLIMB OUT. THEY CANNOT GET OUT BY OPENING THE DOOR HANDLE, THEY HAVE NO UNLOCK BUTTON, THEY'RE ONLY HOPE IS FOR THE WINDOW TO ROLL DOWN OR BREAK THE WINDOW. EXAMPLE 2: THIS ONE ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO US. MY DAD WAS DRIVING WITH MY NEPHEW AND BROTHER IN LAW IN THE BACK SEAT. THEY GET PULLED OFF THE ROAD BY A CRAZY DRIVER. THE CRAZY DRIVER GETS OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND CONFRONT MY OLD FATHER AND STARTS TO THREATEN HIM. MY BROTHER IN LAW WHO WAS IN THE BACK SEAT WITH MY NEPHEW WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE CAR TO HELP MY DAD BUT HE COULD NOT BECAUSE MY DAD DID NOT PRESS THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE DRIVER DOOR THUS FORCING MY BROTHER IN LAW TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN AND CRAWL OUT. WHEN HE DID THIS, HE GOT HIS FOOT CAUGHT AND ENDED UP FALLING RIGHT ON HIS SHOULDER CAUSING BRUISING AND SCRAPES. IF HE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. ALSO IT IS AN ANNOYANCE. PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE DRIVER OR FRONT SEE PASSENGER TO UNLOCK THE DOORS FOR THEM TO GET OUT.

I OWN A 2017 F150 5.0 LITER V8 WITH 10,700 MILES PURCHASED NEW THIS YEAR.THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE BRAKE PEDAL LOST THE RESISTANCE AND DEPRESSED ALL IF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, FAILING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD RETURN BACK TO THE NORMAL POSITION WHEN RELEASED. THIS HAPPENED INTERMITTANTLY ON SECONDARY ROADS FOR ABOUT 25 MILES BEFORE FAILING CONSISTENTLY. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD THEN DEPRESS COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR BOARD UNTIL RELEASED. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ALARMS ACTIVATED. THE BRAKES WOULD FUNCTION PARTIALLY AND ABNORMALLY BUT REQUIRED THE DRIVER TO 'PUMP' THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAINTAIN PROPER PEDAL RESISTANCE AND WOULD BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. IT WAS TAKED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASD AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS SAID TO BE LEAKING AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRENTY REPAIR.
