The truck's cam phasers are rattling bad and getting worse. It used to only do it at initial start up in the morning and any time it sat for an hour or more , but now it seems to be rattling on every startup. Ford has newly designed cam phasers, but they are not offering to put those in unless I pay for it.
I had just replaced the transmission (R1080; 6 cyl 3.5L Turbo) on September 3, 2025 due to P0734-00 (Gear 4 incorrect Ratio and P07F7-00 (Gear 10 incorrect Ratio). The transmission matter can be referenced on NHTSA ID # XXX. On September 30, 2025, while driving down the parking deck ramp (at 3-5mph) my check engine light came on with code P0022 (camshaft timing); resulting in replacement of the camshafts. The camshaft had a HOLE in it (photo supplied). The camshaft issue is another issue many Ford F150 truck owners are experiencing. Again, Ford has continued to give "band-aid" fixes with TSB's and no REAL fix to a continuing issue with these trucks. On December 3, 2022, this used truck was purchased from a Ford Dealership in Raleigh, NC (77,100 miles) and was Ford Gold/Blue Certified per my purchase information. The Gold/Blue paperwork even included that the "Customer Satisfaction Repair" (not a true recall mandated by NHTSA) had been performed by a TSB (along with the unintentional tailgate opening also a Customer Satisfaction Repair). There are no recalls issued on this vehicle. Ford has offered NO assistance towards repairs. As evidenced by the number of complaints filed on the NHTSA website for this particular engine, at what point will the NHTSA open an investigation and mandate that FORD issue a RECALL for the KNOWN problems with the R1080 3.5L and the camshaft/phasers. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly began producing heavy white smoke from the exhaust, the engine started to idle roughly, and a check-engine light came on. There was no oil-pressure warning, no low-oil message, and no “stop safely” alert of any kind. The only warning was emissions-related. After seeing the smoke, the vehicle was parked and later driven only to a dealer for inspection. A dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed that an internal seal in one of the turbochargers failed, causing the engine to pump all of its oil directly into the exhaust system. This resulted in complete oil loss and catastrophic engine damage due to oil starvation. The dealer confirmed the failure and determined that the issue originated from the turbocharger assembly and not from misuse or neglect. The failure occurred suddenly and without any oil-pressure warning to alert the driver. The safety concern is that a turbocharger failure caused total loss of engine oil without triggering any oil-pressure warning or driver alert, creating a risk of sudden engine failure, loss of power, or engine seizure while driving. The lack of oil-pressure warning before or during the event was confirmed by the dealer’s inspection.
Truck was traveling at 30 mph and slowing down for stop sign and shifted from 4 th gear to 3rd gear so hard the trucks engine turned off and had to come to a stop and shift into park to turn truck off and back on again. Truck was traveling at 30 mph and slowing down for stop sign
This model year truck has an oil consumption problem. I had the truck repaired under the Ford bulletin, but I’ll still need an oil consumption test after 1000 miles and continued frequent oil changes.
Cam Phaser failure causing the engine to knock and eventually lose power. Cost $4,900 out of my pocket to fix with 64,000 miles on the truck. Reading online forums, this is one of the MOST common issues with 2018-2022 3.5 and 5.0 f150s. The vehicle has a history prior to my ownership of this same issue. Check engine light is triggered when you hear the engine rattle and throws codes for Camshaft position error. Ford dealer replaced every sensor and harness on the truck before decided the cam phasers were bad, adding another $4,900 to my $2,600 bill. This was during my ownership of the truck between 63,000 and 65,000. First two thousand miles of ownership. Vehicle would stall at low rpm’s after highway use, stalling the vehicle while rolling into an intersection.
* What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission/powertrain; currently available for inspection at time of submission * How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While stopped at stop sign/stop light, the vehicle would have long hesitation before advancing forward. I would initiate hazard lights to prevent driver behind me from crashing into the back of my vehicle. The vehicle would shift harshly and untimely as well as randomly downshift from 10th gear to 1st gear (x2 on 24Aug2025). I would have to pull vehicle off the road and when attempting to resume driving the vehicle would not move. The RPM’s would rev, however the vehicle would not move. I would turn off the vehicle and then restart it and the vehicle would move forward, resuming with harsh shifting. Loss of power, delayed and harsh shifting pose a safety hazard while the vehicle is in operation. * Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes; by independent service center * Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No * Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? First check engine light illuminated on August 16, 2025. (Please note the check engine light disappears once the vehicle is turned off and then restarted). I took the vehicle to AutoZone on 25Aug2025. The tech placed the code reader on the vehicle. 2 codes, P0734-00 and P07F7-00, ‘gear 4 incorrect ratio’ and ‘gear 10 incorrect ratio’ respectively were displayed. Vehicle taken to independent service center on 25Aug2025 who also placed code reader on vehicle. I am not in possession of that information at time of writing. Monthly ‘my vehicle report’ has been clear with no issues whatsoever noted until report dated 25Aug2025 (attached)
fuel injector cracked and started spraying fuel in engine compartment and onto hot motor.
At roughly 9:55pm on Thursday, July 11th while traveling northbound at 70mph on the Dallas North Tollway, my 2020 Ford F-150 Shelby Baja Raptor had an instant catastrophic engine failure. All power to the truck was lost. A red solid battery light came on the a yellow engine light began flashing. I was EXTREMELY fortunate, in that I was able to guide and control the vehicle off of the freeway, on to the service road and glided into a hospital parking lot. The steering completely locked up while navigating from the service road into the hospital parking lot. Once again I was EXTREMELY lucky. This was a terrifying experience that is imporrible to describe with words. The next morning I had the truck towed to a reputable auto repair business close by. Later that day the owner of the business informed me that the crankshaft sheared into where it meets its connection to the engine. He cited that this is EXTREMELY rare and would visit with Shelby America on Monday morning(today 7-14-25). There were no warning lights of any kind that have come up within the last year. The vehicle was purchased locally in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. All maintenance...scheduled and non-scheduled have been performed at the same Ford dealership where the truck was purchased. The truck has had $40,000 worth of maintenance on it since the beginning of 2025. This failure doesnot make sense. The Auto Repair shop indicated that I need a new engine. They also didn't understand why this would happen.
Transmission would shift into different gears when not intended
There is a flaw in the design of the 2020 F150 and specifically the 5.0L V8 Engine. I have kept up to date on all maintenance, no visible oil spils and engine is consuming/burning significant amounts of oil. I've been told by numerous dealerships/mechanics that there is nothing that they can do and to try and join all of the class action lawsuits. I spent 50k on a vehicle that isn't even making it thru the life of the loan..... WHY DO I HAVE TO DO A CLASS ACTION. THIS SHOULD BE CONSUMER PROTECTION.
The truck is stuttering when you go wide open throttle
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal and the engine seized. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The oil warning light was illuminated. The oil gauge indicator was at zero. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a cracked crankshaft between cylinders #2 and #3 and a cracked oil pan. The contact stated that the short block showed signs of metal shavings. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Ford 10r80 Transmission slips or revs for long period of time before banging into gear when accelerating. When accelerating and merging onto the highway I am unable to merge and accelerate to highway speed without the risk of being rear ended by oncoming vehicles already at highway speed. The vehicle has been inspected and confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced. No other lights and absolutely not warnings at any time before problem started. As per TSB 23-2250 and several earlier TSB on this transmission, having a known defect, Ford should escalate this to a recall and compensate owners for the expensive repair when the vehicle should have plenty of more life in it.
Exhaust manifold leak due to factory turbo mounting and bolts issue. Due to improper amount of bolts in rear of exhaust manifold where ford designed the turbochargers to mount to there is warping of the exhaust manifold and the mounting bolts break off due to heating and cooling with the turbochargers weight. Very common issue with the f150, causing exhaust leaks and possible carbon monoxide to leak into cabin. This is a dangerous design flaw that owners should not have to pay out of pocket to repair due to fords poor engine design flaw. Ford should have to recall the engine manifolds

He referred me to the Ford Motor Company to ask for good will. He gave me the number to call and said that was all he could do 04/11/25 Mr. Martinez told me he would check with Ford good will himself on my behalf 04/16/25 Ford agree to pay $5000 total 05/01/25 I received the vehicle back from Joe Myers with the engine replaced; paid $5,369.19. The vehicle has been "inspected" by Joe Myers at minimum 10 times since purchase. Why was the Technical Service Bulletin from Ford (TSB)19-2365) completely ignored thru all 10 inspections? I also suspect that Joe Myers technicians did not fill it with oil. I should be reimbursed for either reason INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM

I was driving on Loop 610 with stop and go traffic and after a lot of restarts the engine almost did not restart. If it would have not restart I would have been trapped in traffic in a mid lane which would have resulted in a various dangerous situation. Ford needs to install a switch to allow owners to disconnect the device that kills the engine when you stop. We are getting ready for hurricane season and based on past history if we have to do a mass evaluation we have vehicles with this devise that could result in blocking traffic and not allow people to evacuate result in potentially many lives lost.

I am writing to report a serious safety issue with my Ford F-150. On March 15th, 2025 while driving on State Route 167 - 410 in heavy rain, my vehicle experienced an intermittent engine shutdown while in motion. Second time happened to my wife while leaving the neighborhood on March 18th, 2025. Specifically, the engine completely shut off while driving at 40 mph. This occurred despite the Auto Start-Stop feature being manually disabled. Upon the engine shutdown, the Driver Information Center (DIC) displayed the message, "Auto StartStop Shift to P, then Restart Engine." The car did not lost power and I needed to do a full stop, shift to P, restart and switch back to D to continue driving. This malfunction occurred under hazardous conditions, specifically during heavy rain on a freeway. The sudden loss of engine power created a highly dangerous situation, placing myself and other drivers at significant risk. I am deeply concerned about the potential safety implications of this issue. The fact that the engine shut down while driving, even with the Auto Start-Stop feature disabled, suggests a critical malfunction that requires immediate attention. Despite having an extended warranty and the serious nature of this safety concern, the service department from Sunset charged me money for an unsuccessful diagnosis after two days, with service advisor unable to identify or replicate the problem.
*Engine failed - Rattle was detected and after dealership took a look at the vehicle, it was determined that the engine needed replaced because the truck was consuming oil at a high rate and there was metal found in the manifold. *If I continued to drive a truck with low oil, a failure of engine/engine fire could have occurred (oil was changed 2 weeks prior to inspection). *Confirmed by dealer *Vehicle was inspected by dealership *No warnings, just a very subtle rattle at low speeds that was concerning. Engine ran fine otherwise. Rattle first appeared around $45k miles.

Cam phasers sensors have failed three times and repaired each time. Caused the engine to stall and accelerate poorly. The third time they failed a part was defected the dealer claimed. All this work was covered under the powertrain warranty. My safety could have been at risk as my vehicle did sputter and wouldn’t accelerate at enough speed to keep up with traffic. Although I was not in an accident or hurt at this time. Yes, engine light has came on, on each occurrence. My powertrain warranty through ford will expire shortly and I’m afraid I will be left with a large repair bill if this issue occurs again soon.
Cam Phasers need to be replaced due to knocking sound. The problem was reproduced by an independent service center. Check engine light is displayed. This issue is under recall for ford f 150 3.5 however we own a 5.0. The same issue is occurring in our vehicle.

On or about April 2024, the "check engine" light came on in my 2020 Ford F-150. My vehicle was just becoming due for re-registration. I had the code for the check engine light checked at my parts dealer and double checked at the maintenance facility I was having services done. The check engine code was for the catalytic converter. I had the catalytic converter and O2 sensors replaced at my service provider, the check engine light was extinguished and the codes had been removed, the vehicle emissions no longer reported on the service/inspection station and the vehicle passed the emissions/safety check for re-registration. In less than one month, the check engine light came on again, with the exact same codes that identify the catalytic converter failing. Both the parts dealer and the service provider tell me that it's impossible. Further checking by the service provider with Ford motor Company service center have told my service provider that my vehicle needs to have the onboard computer system erased and re-installed at my cost because only Ford has the program to do it at their service centers exclusively. This problem seems to be appearing with other Ford vehicles of the same year and engine size. I personally stood in line behind another man who was reporting a problem with his vehicle with the check engine light. Jokingly, I made the comment, "It must be a Ford" and he turned around and asked me "How did you know?" His vehicle is a 2020 Ford van that was parked outside next to my truck. It also has a 5.0 liter V8. Currently, I am awaiting an appointment at either Casa Ford or Visa Ford, the earliest opportunity for them to reprogram the onboard computer system.
I have a 2020 ford f150 xl 5.0 coyote engine, this engine is consuming an excessive amount of oil, is burning so much oil that on february 3, oil was change and on june 4 at a ford dealer the engine had only 4 quarts of oil. so, in just 3 months it burned 5 quarts.
I took my truck in because of a check engine light and an occasional strange noise. They ran an EEC test and the code was P0390. My F150 was 5 quarts of oil low, even though it has been changed within a few thousand miles. The dealer's garage said they did a PCM update and added the oil. Discussing this with Ford's Customer Relations Rep they suggested I start a file with you, in case there is ever a recall. There is a bulletin related to my issue; #19-2365

Service department great, however; the can duplicate issues with vehicle.
Since new it has used 3qts of oil every 5000 miles. It has been to two different Ford shops and they say there is nothing wrong with it and refuse to do anything with it. A new engine should not be using oil. I've been a mechanic for over 50 years. No engine that I ever built used oil. This is unacceptable

I've owned this F150 truck since 2020, purchasing it on Memorial Day. However, every year, I've experienced two to three instances where the car suddenly cuts off in the middle of a traffic light, accompanied by a yellow warning sign on the screen. I suspect it has something to do with the Auto Start-Stop technology. The most recent incident (1 month ago) while I was driving toward a traffic light direction that was turning red. I gradually slowed down until I came to a complete stop. When I lifted my foot off the brake pedal, the car simply shut off. This issue has become increasingly concerning, especially since it can occur in unpredictable situations. I'm hoping someone can provide some insight into the cause of this problem and suggest a solution.
The computer system would set off all the alarms and shut down truck. Yes i think it can be inspected. My safety was at risk when truck would shut down traveling down the road at highway speeds and losing power brakes, power steering overall control, and this would happen when raining and wet slushy conditions on the road way. Yes No not to my knowledge. Yes all the alarms would go off and a second later vehicle would shut down. It was always during wet conditions, sometimes alarms would all go off and truck would stay running i would pull over to side of road and alarms would go away i believe after drying out?
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after changing the oil every 5,000 miles, the vehicle needs two quarts of oil from the ten quarts already added. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not able to provide a repair. Contatc recived same information from another Ford dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 20,451

As I was crossing the Rockies in July of 2021on I-70, my engine lost power and I was unable to drive it any further. I had it towed to the nearest Ford dealership which was in Silverthorne, Colorado where the engine had to replace at my expense of over $11,000.
Cam shaft error codes came up and I took to the dealership. They said the cam shafts needed to be replaced and engine inspected for damage. I have attached an image of the invoice. I have seen that a lot of F150s are having cam shaft failure, so I think it is a large issue with their design.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after changing the oil after 5,000 miles, the vehicle had three quarts of oil remaining out of the eight quarts added. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 44,681.

Reporting this same incident type again. My truck continues to sporadically shutoff while operating the vehicle. My truck has shutoff while driving twice in the past 2 months. Under normal driving conditions I can be driving and suddenly the engine will shutoff and I lose all power and power steering. The latest episode I was turning right with traffic approaching behind with my kids in the truck as well. The error on the dash is the same every time “Auto StartStop Manual Restart Required”. I have to come to a complete stop and put the truck in park to be able to restart. Having to stop on a very busy road to restart is a major safety issue and I believe this truck will end up hurting myself or others. I have had the truck into ford more than once and they claim there is no problem even though I show pictures and video. I contacted ford directly again and they really don’t seem to care very much, from what I can tell they refuse to acknowledge I have a problem with the truck. Please help me.
Check engine light came on after loud rattle began occurring on acceleration. Took it to dealer who found oil to be 7.9 qts (capacity 8 qt)low since last oil change, less than 5000 miles earlier. Ford has known about this issue on their v8s since 2018 and switched out low oil indicator to conceal problem. Oil loss can cause engine seizure which is dangerous.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being inspected, the contact was informed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,085.

While driving, the vehicle shut off and displayed a warning on the dash cluster stating that the engine had automatically shut off. It said auto-stop-start was deactivated and that I needed to put the truck in park and then turn the vehicle off and back on to restart. Doing that allowed the vehicle to restart and no malfunction indicators were displayed afterward.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated the vehicle decelerated with an abnormal rattling sound. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

My check engine light came on. Vehicle would not operate. Checked oil and it was down over 5 quarts of oil but I still had 2,000 miles until oil change was needed. Took to Hiller Ford with excessive oil consumption complaint. New oil dipstick, oil plug, oil change, and reprogrammed PCM. Returned at later date with same issue. Was told to monitor oil levels and sent on my way. Returned to Hiller at a later date with even faster consumption than earlier visits. Was told I had to pay for oil change and come back in 2,000 miles. At 1,000 miles engine sounded rough so I returned to Hiller Ford who agreed the oil was low. They topped off oil abs told me to come back in another 1,000 miles. 500 miles later I checked oil and barely appeared on the dipstick. I returned to Hiller Ford who agreed my truck was consuming oil faster than it should per Ford specs. Hiller kept my vehicle and ran compression test and then scoped my motor to observe damages. Hiller said that I needed a new motor and it falls under warranty and has been approved by Ford. They then followed up with the new motor would not be available for 18 months. I was told that no rental reimbursement allowance and that I'd have to operate my non conformity vehicle for 18 months. Operating this vehicle is unsafe and is prone to cause damage to other components of the vehicle. Engine could over heat causing its to seize or even start on fire. The increased emissions are not only bad for the environment but would decrease fuel efficiency and be very costly having to add a quart of oil every 500 miles.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated due to the excessive oil consumption of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the PCM module failed and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the dip stick needed to be replaced with a longer dip stick. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

while I was driving, all of a sudden I noticed no power was going to the engine, I pushed on the gas pedal and nothing happened. The truck stalled, I quickly pull over to a safe spot, and turn the engine off. Dash had lit up with "Auto Startstop feature needing me to put the truck in park and restart the engine" scary as it lost power while driving which thankfully I was able to pull over to a safe spot.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150.The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming 3-quarts of oil every 5,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised the contact to join the class action lawsuit. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

I was driving and the engine cutoff auto start stop message popped up had to stop and put the truck in park then turn the key to restart engine.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated independently. The contact parked on the side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the low oil pressure warning light disappeared; however, the check engine warning light then became illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the dipstick to be replaced, and an oil and filter service performed. The contact was also informed that the powertrain control module (PCM) needed to be updated for proper engine control performance. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing an oil pressure sensor to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer for the third time, where it was diagnosed with needing the instrument cluster to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but did not fix the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the instrument panel cluster (IPC) solenoid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,100.

I purchased my 2020 f150 5.0 4x4 in July 2022, I noticed the transmission having a slight change in shifting that that car salesman reassured me that it’s common with this year and model I took his word for it. Since than the truck and the shifting has gotten gradually worse from shifting to drive and into reverse the truck has slammed into gear on 3 occasions, up shift rough as well as down shift. My 2004 f150 has smoother gears and shifted with ease. I’ve contacted Omeara Ford of Thornton,Co where I purchased the truck from and there saying that they would need to get the truck into do a diagnostic and that their 3 months out. This doesn’t sit with me well as I’ve purchased the power train warranty and service contract and now if my truck brakes down I’m responsible?! I need to feel that my 50k truck is going to last and do what I need to do in order to make a living for myself and my family these 10 speed transmission need to be replaced in all the f150 newer models I am looking into the class action lawsuit
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, there was a rattling sound coming from the engine compartment with the check engine warning light illuminated. After stopping to inspect the vehicle, the contact discovered that the engine oil was extremely low. The cause of the failure was not determined and the vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact indicated that TSB: (19-23650) software update was related to the failure and had been issued. The local dealer and manufacturer were contacted but no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Vehicle was started after sitting for 24 hrs. Turned off the start/stop function and proceeded. Less than a mile into the trip, I attempted a right hand turn. Slowed, made the turn and went to accelerate. The engine stalled. Dash error notice stated "Auto Start/Stop Shift to P, then Restart Engine." Came to a complete stop and restarted. Thankfully, no one was behind me at the time and I wasn't pulling into a stream of traffic. Took to dealer approximately 10 days later. They checked for DTC's. None were found, could not verify customer concern. Service advisor stated he had other complaints of the same malfunction, however no info or TSB's available to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH and attempting to accelerate, a warning message to pull over and restart the vehicle was displayed. The vehicle independently powered down and was restarted by the contact to keep driving. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,900.

I was driving and I came to a stop sign when I tried to accelerate the engine turned off and I was turning into traffic thankfully I was able to pull into the middle lane. The screen showed the auto stop start symbol and to put the truck in park and turn the key. When I restarted the truck it was driving fine. I took the truck in to dealer and they found nothing wrong with it very scary.
This safety problem has happened twice in the last 3 months without warning. There are no check engine or service lights on of any kind. I was operating my vehicle on paved city roads driving at normal pace for the conditions. First time this incident happened I was driving approximately 25 mph beginning to scrub speed for a stoplight. Without warning the vehicle shutoff and had no power to anything. The warning on the dash said put vehicle in park to restart. I had to park on a 45mph road with traffic and no shoulder to restart my vehicle. After this first incident I took my vehicle to the dealership and they were unable to find anything wrong. The second time this same incident happened was yesterday 5/4/22. I was turning right at approximately 10-12mph and vehicle shutoff without warning. Lost power to all systems. I had to again park the vehicle on a busy road abruptly to restart, only after having to place vehicle in park. Pending visit to dealership on Monday 5/9/22. Ford has also been contacted and incidents documented.
When at a stop sign, with the auto start stop engaged, I went to accelerate and the engine stalled with the following message of "auto start stop shift to P, then restart engine". This was extremely dangerous and a safety issue that Ford needs to fix. I was in the middle of an intersection and thankful no other vehicles approaching. I had to shift to Park, turn ignition switch off and restart engine. Vary concerning in driving this vehicle anymore!
Ii stopped at a stop sign and the auto stop feature engaged. As I began to pull out the engines started and then stalled. I received an error message in the message center above the steering wheel, it said “AUTO STOP START SHIFT TO P THE RESTART THE ENGINE”. Fortunately it was a secondary road. There was a car coming but I was able to coast to the side of the road, activate my flashers before he arrived. I put the vehicle in park and was able to restart the engine without a problem. It did not happen again.
Transmission shifts hard and searches for a gear. Loud noises from power train when stopping
engine makes a metallic noise, spark knock sound at lower speeds 10- 40 mph. Talk to ford dealer and was told to drive it till it codes. There was nothing they could check otherwise. There is 39,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive and electronic power. The vehicle rolled to a complete stop. After approximately five minutes a message on the center display stated, “Shift vehicle to Park and restart”. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the residence. The next day the contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

2020 F-150 with the 5.0 engine uses over 2 quarts of oil in 2000 miles. Had the oil changed in April with the odometer reading 6300 miles, checked the oil at 8366 miles and it was barley on the dipstick. Went to the local Ford dealer and Service Manager said that 1 quart in 1500 miles is normal. This is over 2 quarts in 2000 miles so they are going to do an Oil Consumption test on the engine. I am unaware if TSB 19-2365 was done on the vehicle prior to buying it in April 2020. I have also reported the issue to Ford HQ and have a case number with them.
1) Truck's EcoBoost motor suddenly shut-down without any clear warning....Vehicle Is available to inspect. 2) Turning into a busy road, from a stop at a traffic light, had no power to exit road with traffic in front of and behind my truck. I had enough rolling inertia to glide into the nearest open parking lot. When this sudden motor shut-down occurred, my left turning blinker began to blink rapidly, a buzzing was heard coming from under the dash board near glove box, a red battery warning light was seen on instrument panel indicating no power. I stopped my truck, put it into park and tried several times to re-start my motor. That failed to start several times. Finally, I was able to start the motor and with great caution was able to drive to my home. 3) Problem confirmed by a Ford Service Dealer 4) Vehicle has been inspected by the Ford Service where I purchased the vehicle about a year ago...9546 miles on the vehicle, now. Service technician connected a diagnostic computer to my vehicle and found..."A Communication Error Fault with a code." No code number was on the tech's report, however. Date of this Incident was: July 18, 2021, Sunday
While driving on a city street, the engine suddenly stopped. A message on the instrument cluster display said something to the effect of "Auto StartStop. Put vehicle in 'P' and start the engine". Vehicle has less that 4000 miles on it. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS EVENT, and if it should occur in heavy traffic, could result in serious injury or death. Have not yet been to the dealer. Making this complaint immediately since a quick check shows other owners reporting this event with their vehicles on this official site as well as on many unofficial forums, indicating that this is a common occurrence with the product and not this specific vehicle.

FOR THE 3RD TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY 2020 F150 STX WITH ONLY 4,218 MILES THE ENGINE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND DISPLAYED 'AUTO STARTSTOP SHIFT TO P, THEN RESTART ENGINE' ON THE DASH DISPLAY. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON 4/22/21 I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A STREET GOING ABOUT 20 MPH. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME OR BEHIND ME AND I WAS NOT TRYING TO TURN AT AN INTERSECTION WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A COLLISION. THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED ON 3/18/21 WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET GOING ABOUT 15 MPH. AND THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON 2/20/21 I WAS PULLING IN TO MY DRIVEWAY SO STOPPING AND DOING SO WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM I FELT VERY UNSAFE IN MY TRUCK IF THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T GET RESOLVED PEOPLE CAN GET IN TO AN ACCIDENT AND GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND ALSO CHECKED MY VIN FOR ANY RECALLS AND I WAS SURPRISED TO NOT FIND ANY. FROM RESEARCHING ONLINE FORUMS THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION APPEARS TO BE FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED/RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD AND ACROSS MULTIPLE MODEL YEARS. ON 4/24/21 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT THE TECH CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THEY RAN SEVERAL TESTS AND THE TRUCK DID NOT GIVE ANY PROBLEM CODES. FOR SAFETY DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT WANT ME TO DRIVE TRUCK SO THEY WOULD KEEP IT AND WOULD CONTACT FORD TO REPORT ISSUE AND WAIT FOR THEIR RECOMMENDATION. I'M STILL WAITING FOR UPDATE. I HOPE FORD TAKES THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND DOES A RECALL.

JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO THE STORE, THEN AROUND TOWN. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN DOWN A SIDE STREET, I PUSHED THE BUTTON FOR THE HEAT, TO TURN IT OFF. I HEARD A WEIRD BUZZING NOISE. MY BREAKS STOPPED WORKING FULLY. NO BREAKS AT ALL. NO POWER BREAK, SINCE IT'S ELECTRICAL OR SOMETHING. NO WAY TO STOP THE TRUCK. WHEN I TRIED TO PUSH THE GAS TO MOVE. THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE TRANSMISSION AT ALL. WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED. I TRIED TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUES. SWITCHING SEVERAL OPTIONS AND MODES TO TRY TO FIND THE SOLUTION. CALLED A MECHANIC. NO CODES WERE GIVEN ON THE SYSTEM. HAD TO WAIT 2 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK. I'M A DISABLED VET, HAD TO WALK BACK TO MY HOUSE TO GRAB MY OTHER CAR, SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW IF THIS TRUCK WAS JUST GOING TO DECIDE TO TAKE OFF WITH ME IN IT. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS ELECTRICAL AND BUGGY. SURE ENOUGH. BEFORE THE TOW TRUCK GOT THERE, I WAS WITH ANOTHER PERSON WHO HAD A SIMILAR FORD F150. HE WENT THROUGH SOME OPTIONS. WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRUCK STARTED TO REV UP. WE QUICKLY WENT TO THE ENGINE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. IF THAT TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE ACTIVATED IT WOULD HAVE SMASHED INTO SEVERAL PEOPLE, CARS AND HOUSES. THEN THAT'S WHEN I LOOKED UP THE RECALL FOR THE 2020 F150 AND FOUND ALL THE INFORMATION I WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN BEFORE THE PURCHASE. 365 MILES ON THE TRUCK. HAD IT LESS THAN 14 HOURS. DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 20 MINS. NOTICED PREMATURE RUST UNDERNEATH, BUT DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH OF IT. A LOT OF PARTS WERE RUSTING AND HAD NO PROTECTION.

FOR THE SECOND TIME TODAY, MY 2020 F150 HAS TURNED ITSELF OFF, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WITH A MESSAGE TO "SHIFT TO PARK AND RESTART ENGINE". I HAPPENED TO BE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, SO STOPPING AND DOING SO WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND DO THIS, BUT IF THIS HAPPENS ON A ROAD, OR WORSE, WHEN ENTERING AN INTERSECTION WHEN CROSSING WITHOUT STOPPING IS NECESSARY, SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED.. I HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO REPORT THIS TO FORD, BECAUSE I AM ACTIVE ON AN F150 FORUM AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE, AND FORD HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT. I NOTICED SEVERAL PEOPLE SAID IT HAPPENED WHEN THE WEATHER WAS CHILLY - ONE PERSON SAID IT WAS 42 DEGREES. IN MY CASE, THE WEATHER TODAY IS 40, AND IT WAS SIMILAR WEATHER LAST TIME IT HAPPENED. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT IT'S AN INTERESTING COINCIDENCE OTHERWISE. MY CAR WAS MODERATELY WARMED UP, I HAD ONLY DRIVEN ABOUT 8 MILES. PICTURE OF THE DASH FROM TODAY'S INCIDENT ATTACHED. IN BOTH CASES, THE TRUCK WAS OTHERWISE DRIVING FINE, GIVING NO INDICATION OF PROBLEMS, AND ALSO STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AND SHOWED NO OTHER PROBLEM. IT HAS PROBABLY BEEN ABOUT 3 MONTHS SINCE THE FIRST TIME. THE SECOND TIME WAS TODAY - 3.16.2021

MY 2020 FORD F-150 5.0L V8 HAS AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. THE DAY I TOOK IT TO GET IT'S VERY FIRST OIL CHANGE (JANUARY 2021), BEFORE I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET CHANGED, I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS LOW. IT ONLY HAD 5K MILES ON IT. THEY CHANGED THE OIL AND TOPPED IT OFF. WHEN I CHECKED IT YESTERDAY (FEBRUARY 19TH, 2021), IT WAS READING HALF FULL ON THE DIPSTICK, WITH 6,600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.
EIGHT DAYS AFTER NEW PURCHASE, WITH 416 MILES ON THE ODOMETER THE ENGINE FAILED FROM A CURRENTLY UNDIAGNOSED DEFECT. LARGE AMOUNTS OF WHITE SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST COVERED THE HIGHWAY, POTENTIALLY AFFECTING VISIBILITY OF OTHER DRIVERS. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, AFTER PULLING OFF FROM HIGHWAY THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT VERIFIED THE ENGINE LOCKED UP AFTER THE FAILURE.

I THEN CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED ON 9/11/2020.AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPS AND OPENING A CLAIM THROUGH CORPORATE FORD AND THEN BEING DENIED I REACHED OUT TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AFTER THREE INDEPENDENT APPRAISAL'S AND NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS ALONG WITH EMAILS NO ONE HAS RESPONDED TO RESOLE THIS ISSUE , IT HAS BEEN ALMOST THREE MONTHS NOW WITH NO CONCLUSION AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS DENIED MY CLAIM DUE TO THE INCOMPETENCE OF THE FORD DEALERSHIP.

OIL CONSUMPTION ON THE 5.0 LITER V8 ENGINE. THE ENGINE IS CONSUMING OIL WITHOUT EVIDENCE OF AN OIL LEAK. FORD HAS A TSB FOR THIS 19-2365 WHICH COVERS YEAR MODEL 2018-2020. THERE ARE OTHER TSBS FOR OLDER YEAR MODELS WITH THIS SAME ENGINE. FORD SAYS LESS THAN 1 QUART OF OIL CONSUMED IN 3000 MILES OR LESS IS NORMAL. THEIR FIX IS A LONGER AND WIDER DIP STICK AND A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THIS DOES NOT FIX THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE BLOCK WITHIN THE CYLINDERS.

LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND COASTED TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT STAYED RUNNING. AS I MENTIONED, I HAD DISABLED THE AUTO START STOP FUNCTION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TRIP IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION OR WHERE I COULDN'T HAVE STOPPED MY WIFE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR EVEN BEEN KILLED. I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET AND IT IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT VERY LIKELY WILL CAUSE PEOPLE TO BE HIT AND KILLED AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
