TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-250 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65-70 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. AS A RESULT, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I WAS TOWING A TRAILER, BUT ALL LOADS WERE WELL BELOW THE MAXIMUM CAPACITY RATINGS. THE FIRST TIRE ALSO RUPTURED/DEFLATED. THE OTHER TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE - ONLY LOST THE TREAD. THE TREAD WOUND AROUND THE AXLE DAMAGING THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE. BOTH WHEEL WELLS AND REAR FENDERS WERE DAMAGED. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER STATED HE SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT THEN THEY WILL REPLACED THE TIRE, OR GIVE HIM HIS MONEY BACK. THE VEHICLE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 240,000.

LOSS OF CONTROL OF TRUCK AND TRUCK AND TRAILER CAUSING SWERVING INTO ONCOMING LEFT LANE OF TRAFFIC. REGAINED CONTROL BEFORE HITTING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE AT AROUND 45MPH WHEN I FELT A BUMP IN THE BACK OF MY TRUCK. I LOOKED BACK AND MY SPARE TIRE HAD FALLEN OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF MY TRUCK. NO OTHER CARS WERE AROUND SO I TURNED AROUND AND GOT THE TIRE OFF THE ROAD AND PUT IT IN THE TRUCK BED. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND THE CABLE THAT HELD THE TIRE IN PLACE WAS FRAYED AND BROKEN. IF I HAD BEEN GOING TOWN A BUSY FREEWAY THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. 1999 FORD F250 SUPERDUTY 4X4 BUILT PRIOR TO 3/22/99. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. ON JULY 10, 2007, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR THE TIRES, BUT THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN DISCARDED. THE CONTACT HAS SPOKEN TO COOPER CONCERNING REIMBURSEMENT, BUT WAS DENIED SINCE HE NO LONGER HAD THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE NOT THE ORIGINAL ONES THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. I WAS NORTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE I95 IN FLORIDA TRAVELING AT 60 MPH IN THE RIGHT LANE PULLING A 32 FT 5TH WHEEL TRAILER AT APPROX 09:00 WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE TREAD ON MY PICKUP CAME OFF AND CAUSED APPROXIMATELY $7000.00 IN DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK, I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE TRUCK AND TRAILER WITHOUT FURTHER DAMAGE. THE TIRE HAD LESS THEN 10000 MILES ON IT AND WAS A FIRESTONE LT265/75R16 STEELTEX AT. *JB

I HAD JUST DRIVEN ABOUT 10 MILES ON I-25 FROM WORK TO MY HOUSE. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND OPENED THE GATE, THEN I GOT BACK IN THE VEHICLE AND DROVE ON TO WHERE I PARK. AFTER PARKING, I GLANCED BACK AT THE DRIVEWAY, WHERE I HAD STOPPED TO OPEN THE GATE, AND THERE WAS A TIRE LAYING ON THE GROUND. IT WAS ACTUALLY MY SPARE TIRE, THAT HAD BEEN MOUNTED UP UNDER THE BED OF MY TRUCK. ALSO ON THE GROUND WAS THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE TIRE ONTO A CABLE AND THE NUT-LIKE DEVICE THAT HOLDS THE BRACKET ONTO THE CABLE. THE NUT-LIKE DEVICE APPARENTLY SHEARED OFF FROM THE CABLE AND THE TIRE FELL OFF. LOOKING UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK, YOU CAN SEE THE FRAAYED CABLE HANGING DOWN. I AM SO EXTREMELY RELIEVED THAT THIS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY INSTEAD OF ON THE HIGHWAY. HAD THE TIRE FALLEN OFF ON THE INTERSTATE, THERE IS NO TELLING WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I NOTIFIED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, VIA THERE WEB SITE. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED AND SUGGESTED I TAKE THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL DEALER TO GET THE CABLE FIXED.

WHILE PULLING A TRAILER AT 65 MPH THERE WAS A NOISE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE . CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND IT WENT IN THE DIRECTION OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CONSUMER THEN TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL HARD TO THE RIGHT AND VEHICLE WENT TO THE RIGHT , DOWN AN EMBANKMENT, AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THIS COLLISION OCCURRED BECAUSE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. *AK

HAD A DEFECTIVE FIRESTONE STEELTEX BLOW OUT ON A REAR PASSENGER SIDE 1999 FORD PICKUP WHILE TOWING A BOAT. THE TIRES WERE VERY LOW MILEAGE AND HAD THE PROPER AMOUNT OF INFLATION. THE ENTIRE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE DISENTEGRATED. THE TIRE HAS BEEN SENT TO FIRESTONE , AKRON FACILITY FOR A REVIEW BY EXPERTS TO TRY AND DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE. THE BLOWOUT WAS VERY VIOLENT CAUSING BODY DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL OF THE TRUCK. IT IS FORTUNATE THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE REAR OF THE TRUCK AS A FAILURE ON THE FRONT COULD HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE TIRES WERE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE AND I STILL HAVE THEM MINUS THE ACTUAL BLOWOUT WHICH WAS SENT TO THE FIRESTONE FACILITY AS INDICATED ABOVE. *AK
