PARKED MY TRUCK AT THE POST OFFICE TO RETRIEVE MAIL, GOT OUT AND SHUT DOOR, AND OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE I SAW WHAT I THOUGHT AS MOVEMENT OF MY TRUCK, SO I TURNED AROUND TO SEE MY TRUCK STARTING TO ROLL BACKWARDS , I YELLED WTF, AND STARTED TO CHASE MY TRUCK THROUGH THE PARKING AREA, TRIED TO JUMP IN WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR AND I WAS TO OLD AND FAT TO DO THAT, TRIED PUSH BACK , BUT TRUCK WAS TO HEAVY TO DO THAT, SO I WENT FOR THE PARKING BRAKE PRESSED IT HARD AND FAST AS I COULD, AND THAT WORKED MY TRUCK WAS IN PARK, AS I HAD MY KEYS IN MY HAND. THE PARK LOCK ON THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN SOME WAY ,ALLOWING TO ROLL LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL

THE 2001 F250 I OWN HAS ALWAYS STALLED AT ANY GIVEN TIME. FORD RECALLED THE CAM POSITION SENSOR, I HAD ALREADY CHANGED IT JUST BEFORE RECALL THEN THEY DID AGAIN. THAT NEVER STOPPED IT FROM STALLING, IT ALSO DOESN'T READ WHEN YOU SOMETIMES GO TO TAKE OFF. I'VE CHANGED (THROTTLE SWITCH) THAT DID NOTHING. ALL OF ITS MISHAPS HAS CASED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIR. ALWAYS BROKE DOWN AND CAN'T MAKE MONEY WHEN IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE TRUCK TIME AFTER TIME. I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL CLOSE CALL ACCIDENTS, WHEN I LOSE POWERSTEERING AND ALMOST HAVE CRASHED INTO CARS. I FIGURED OUT THE FUEL TANK FLAKING OFF INSIDE THE TANK COULD BE THE CAUSE. THE TRUCK GETS TERRIBLE FUEL MILEAGE WHEN THIS HAPPENS COSTING A FORTUNE IN WASTED DIESEL FUMES. THAT HAVE BEEN KNOW TO CAUSE BRAIN CANCER, ALSO THE AMOUNT OF POLLUTION FROM NOT RUNNING PROPER. I AM NO FAN OF FORD'S REPAIR SHOP WHEN THEY TELL YOU IN 1983 TO MY FATHER THAT HIS ALMOST BRAND NEW DIESEL NEEDS NEW (SPARK PLUGS) WHEN DIESEL DO NOT EVEN HAVE THEM. I OWN THIS 2001 DIESEL FOR A LONG TIME NOW FOR A LANDSCAPING AND SNOWPLOWING THAT IS OUT OF BUSINESS. IT IS EMBARRASSING FOR IT TO STALL, REV UP SLIPPING TRANSMISSION, HARMING WHOLE DRIVE TRAIN. NEVER KNOWING WHEN I'M COULD BE STRANDED IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN. I HAVE HAD ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER WITH THE FORD I OWN. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF SAME PROBLEMS PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. SOUNDS LIKE FORD HAS DONE GOOD AT COVERING UP PROBLEM BY NOT TELLING US IF THEY KNEW. I THOUGHT THE FUEL PROBLEM CAME FROM GAS STATIONS. ONLY THING HELPED ME WAS MOSTLY SAME NEWER STATION, AND TRIED TO KEEP IT FULL HELPED. CAN ANYONE HELP, THESE ARE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHEN LIVES DEPEND ON THEM. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH THE TRUCK, I'D LIKE TO SEE IT GO TO SCRAP AT THIS TIME. WITH 277,000 NOT EVEN RUSTED OUT MUCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT BOTH THE TRANSMISSION FRONT SEAL AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE A 2001 FORD F250 SD CREW/4X4 AND THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FRONT END STEERING SYSTEM. TODAY WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SHIMMY AND SHAKE SO HARD THAT AT 55MPH BY THE TIME I GOT THE TRUCK SLOWED TO ABOUT 15MPH I WAS OVER INTO THE LANE OF THE ON COMING TRAFFIC (LUCKLY NO ONE WAS THERE). THE OTHER DAY WITH MY WIFE IN THE TRUCK WE TURNED A CORNER AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHIMMY REALLY HARD AND I LOST SOME RESPONSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK THE STEERING BECAME SOMEWHAT UNRESPONSIVE, AND I WAS FORCED TO ALLOW THE TRUCK TO TRACK INTO THE BAILY POST OFFICE PARKING LOT. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY TRUCK BUT THE MECHANICS TELL ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT THAT THEY CAN FIND. THE TRUCK DOES NOT DO THIS ALL THE TIME, IT COMES AND GOES, SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT AND THEN IT CAN GO WEEKS WITHOUT HAPPENING. I WORKED AS A MECHANIC FOR 25 YEARS AND I AM TELLING YOU THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK AND I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED HUNDREDS MAYBE EVEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FORD F-SERIES TRUCKS AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SUCH A BAD DESIGN FLAW THAT CAN CAUSES A LIGHT SHIMMY TO TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL OF THESE TRUCKS AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING, WHICH MAY CAUSE SERIOUS HARM OR EVEN DEATH TO THE OWNER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-250 SD. WHEN THE GEAR SHIFTER IS USED, IT CAUSES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FUSE TO BLOW. SMOKE APPEARED OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO BURNED WIRES AND ALL OF THE ISSUES WERE CONNECTED TO THE STEERING COLUMN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. HE BELIEVES THAT THE WIRES WERE BURNED IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE TOW PACKAGE BURNED AND THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL AND BRAKE LIGHTS NO LONGER WORK. ALL OF THE DOORS APPEARED TO BE SHORT AND DO NOT CLOSE OR OPEN PROPERLY. IN ADDITION, THE OVERDRIVE FAILED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN THE CONTACT PRESSES THE BUTTON, NOTHING HAPPENS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY SAFETY RECALLS THAT APPLY TO THE VIN. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. I PURCHASED THE FORD, F-250, DIESEL POWER STROKE, 7.3 LITER, AUTO TRANSMISSION IN LATE 2000. ON AUGUST 20, 2006 I WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 49 IN AUBURN, CALIFORNIA, FROM BELL ROAD. AT THE LIGHT, I PROCEEDED FORWARD AND NOTICED MY VEHICLE REMAINED IN FIRST GEAR, AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO LET MY FOOT OFF OF THE THROTTLE IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE RPMS. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED HARD INTO 2ND GEAR AND PROCEEDED FORWARD. THIS CONTINUED TO OCCUR UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO COTTMAN TRANSMISSION IN PLACERVILLE CALIF ON 8-30-06, AS ACCORDING TO FUTURE FORD, WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. AFTER TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH A REP FROM COTTMAN TRANSMISSION, HE DETERMINED 2ND GEAR WAS LOST AND THERE MIGHT BE OTHER PROBLEMS. HE ALSO STATED THAT REBUILDING 2001 FORD F250 TRANSMISSIONS WAS A COMMON PROCEDURE FOR THEM. HE EXPLAINED ONE OF THE DESIGN PROBLEMS AND FAILURE POINTS ON THE TRANSMISSION. I CALLED OTHER TRANSMISSION SHOPS TO CONFIRM THE REPRESENTATIVELY COMMENTS REGARDING THE 2001 FORDS. ALL CONCUR THAT FORD BUILD AN UNDER PERFORMING TRANSMISSION ON THAT MAKE AND YEAR, AND THAT THIS TRUCK IS A COMMON REBUILD FOR THEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE PERFORMANCE OF DRIVE TRAIN COMPONENTS, SUCH AS TRANSMISSIONS, ARE OF A SAFETY CONCERN. FAILURE OF THESE COMPONENTS WILL HAVE DIFFERENT EFFECTS BASED ON THE DRIVING SITUATION ENCOUNTERED DURING FAILURE. I WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO BE ON A STEEP MOUNTAIN GRADE OR IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE RANDOM FAILURE OF VEHICLE PARTS IS UNAVOIDABLE DUE TO DIFFERING REASONS, HOWEVER, THIS TRANSMISSION MADE SINCE 2001 HAS BEEN FAILING IN MOST 2001 FORDS. ON THE DATE OF THIS COMPLAINT, I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILD AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED THERE WERE MORE ISSUES THAN SIMPLY 2ND GEAR. $3,000.00 WORTH. I HAD THE TRUCK INTO HIM THE NEXT MORNING, AND AFTER DOING HIS CHECK OF THE TRANSMISSION, HE INFORMED ME THAT SECOND GEAR AND OVERDRIVE WAS GONE AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. AFTER DISASSEMBLING THE TRANSMISSION ,HE TOLD ME THE CAUSE WAS A DEFECT IN THE FORD TRANSMISSIONS, SPRAGE ASSEMBLY AND DIRECT DRUM, PLUS OTHER THINGS THAT IM NOT AN EXPERT AT DESCRIBING. IT ENDED UP COSTING ME CLOSE TO $4000.00 DOLLARS WITH THE RENTAL CAR TO DRIVE WHILE THE TRUCK WAS IN THE SHOP,AND ENDED UP HAVING TO REBUILD THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TALKED TO A FEW OTHER TRANSMISSION EXPERTS AND SOME FRIENDS THAT HAVE FORD TRUCKS AND THEY ALL TELL ME YES,THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE FORD TRANSMISSIONS. I ALSO TALKED WITH THE FORD DEALER,WHO DENIED EVER HEARING OF THIS PROBLEM. THE CLUTCH HYDRAULICS SPONTANEOUSLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. ONE DAY THE CLUTCH WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED PER FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD DEALERSHIP INSTALLED REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION. THIS TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION.

POWERSTROKE WITH A 4R100 TRANSMISSION. DEALER STATES THAT THE DRUM OR "MECHANICAL DIODE" HAS WENT OUT, SO THEY REPLACED WITH A "SPRAGUE DIODE", AT A COST OF 1500.00. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS "MECHANICAL DIODE" BREAKING DUE TO FORD USING BAD PARTS. I CALLED FORD AND ASK FOR REIMBURSEMENT, BUT WAS DENIED. TRUCK HAD 64,000 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT IS VERY WELL DOCUMENTED ON VARIOUS WEBSITES ABOUT THIS DEFECT, BUT FORD SEEMS TO DENY IT. THE DEALER WAS VERY GOOD TO WORK WITH AND IS THE SAME DEALER THAT I HAVE DO ALL MY SERVICE WORK. *NM

WE DROPPED THE TRUCK BY THE FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE SHIFT SHAFT TUBE, 2 BUSHINGS AND THE SHIFTER CABLE ASSEMBLY. IT SEEMS TO WORK FINE NOW. *JB

I CHECK ALL THE FLUIDS AND THEY WERE FINE. AT EXACTLY 25500 I HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED WITH A FULL SYSTEM FLUSH AND A FILTER CHANGED. AFTER THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SKYLINE FORD DEALERSHIP IN DALLAS. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT HAD KICKED OUT SOME CODES ON THEIR "FORD" COMPUTER. I HAD NO INDICATION OF FAIL LIGHTS IN THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. WHEN THEY GOT THE TRANSMISSION APART THEY SAID THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON FAILURE AND THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS MANY TIMES FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL, AND THE TRANSMISSION INTERNALS WERE NO GOOD, THE TECHNICIAN PICKED UP A HANDFUL OF METAL SHAVINGS FROM INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND SHOWED THEM TO ME. THEY PERFORMED A FULL TRANSMISSION REBUILD USING THE HULL OF THE OLD TRANSMISSION. SINCE THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED JUST RECENTLY OUT OF WARRANTY THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR IT UNTIL I TOLD THEM I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AT THE PURCHASE TIME OF THE VEICHLE. NOT LESS THAN 3000 MILES LATER THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND AS SOON AS I STOPPED THE TRUCK DIED SO I STARTED IT BACK UP WENT INTO DRIVE AND IT DIED AGAIN. I HAD TO GET SOMEONE TO TOW IT. THIS TIME THE DEALER WAS MCKIE FORD IN RAPID CITY SD, WHEN THEY GOT THE TRANSMISSION OFF THEY SAID THE SAME THING THAT IT WAS A COMMON FAILURE WITH FORD TRANSMISSION WITH THIS TRUCK WITH THIS PARTICULAR YEAR MODEL. THIS TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 2000 MILES OF TOWING UNDER ITS BELT. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF VERY WELL BOTH FAILURES WERE TO BE BLAMED ON FORD. MY 2001 F250 SUPER DUTY HAD A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 50534 MILES. THE MECHANICS AT THE TRANSMISSION SHOP TOLD ME THAT THE ONE-WAY CLUTCH HAD FAILED IN THE TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. OUT OF POCKET COST $2805.82. WHILE SPEAKING TO THE MECHANICS I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION. EVEN I KNOW THAT A TRANSMISSION IS SUPPOSED TO LAST LONGER THAN THIS, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT IS ON A "SUPER DUTY". THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND EXPENSIVE. IT IS TIME FOR A VOLUNTARY RECALL OR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT.

WE HAD THE WORK DONE AND IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE FORD SERVICE CENTER TO SEE IF WE COULD GET REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIRING THE TRANSMISSION SINCE IT WAS ONLY 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND STILL UNDER 36,000 MILES. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2001 MODEL 4R100 TRANSMISSIONS AND MENTIONED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED. I FOUND FORDS TSB-01-13-5 ON THE INTERNET AND DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THE SITUATION IS THAT IN JULY 2000 THROUGH MARCH 2001 FORD CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE ONE-WAY CLUTCH FROM THE SPRAG DESIGN (IN SERVICE SINCE 1989 ACCORDING TO THE DEALER) TO THE NEW MECHANICAL DIODE. BY MARCH OF 2001 FORD RECOGNIZED THAT THE NEW DESIGN WAS FAULTY AND REVERTED BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SPRAG DESIGN. THE SERVICE BULLETIN INSTRUCTS DEALERS THAT IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE, TO REPLACE THE MECHANICAL DIODE WITH THE SPRAG DESIGN. FORD REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAULTY DESIGN, PART, OR REPAIRS. IN FACT THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS SOMEWHAT NASTY IN MY OPINION. CLEARLY THIS IS DEFECTIVE ENGINEERING THAT IMPACTS THE DRIVE TRAIN. THERE ARE A MULTITUDE OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. THIS SITUATION APPLIED TO 4R100 TRANSMISSIONS INSTALLED IN 2001 E SERIES, EXCURSIONS, EXPEDITIONS, F-150'S, ALL F SERIES SUPER DUTY'S, AND NAVIGATORS. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND THE TSB FORD SWITCHED FROM THE SPRAG ONE-WAY CLUTCH ON 7/27/2000 TO THE MECHANICAL DIODE TYPE CLUTCH UP TILL 3/23/2001. FORD FOUND THAT THE MECHANICAL DIODE TYPE CLUTCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND SWITCHED BACK TO THE SPRAG TYPE CLUTCH IN MARCH OF 2001. FORD SUBSEQUENTLY ISSUED TSB 01-13-5 ON JUNE 26, 2001 WHICH ADVISES REPLACEMENT OF THE MECHANICAL DIODE TYPE CLUTCH WITH THE SPRAG (THE OLD DESIGN). I HAVE A 2001 FORD F-250 DIESEL WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SYSTEM HAS WENT OUT 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. THIS PAST TIME THE TRUCK STARTED PULLING OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON IT'S OWN WHILE THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. I HAD MY 17 MONTH DAUGHTER WITH ME AND WE WERE ALMOST HIT! THIS IS AN UNSAFE SYSTEM AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR EVEN KILLED!!*AK

2001 F250 CREW CAB 4 X 4 AUTO TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 49,000 MILES. DRIVING ALONG AT 45 TO 50 MILES AN HOUR AND TRANSMISSION LOSES 2ND AND THROWS/SNAPS PASSENGERS FORWARD. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN OFF ROAD, ALL MILES ARE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAS NOT PULLED ANYTHING. FORD SAID THEY COULD NOT REPAIR ONLY REPLACE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION FOR $3100. I HAD A LOCAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP MAKE REPAIRS FOR $2200. THEY WERE TOLD BY FORD WHEN ORDERING PARTS THAT THE ONE-WAY CLUTCH THAT FAILED WAS A NEW DESIGN IN 1998. PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE SINCE FORD HAD SINCE GONE BACK TO PRE 1998 DESIGN. THIS IS CLEARLY A "LATENT DEFECT" THAT FORD IS/HAS BEEN AWARD OF. I AM ASKING FORD TO STAND FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS OR WILL REFER TO COUNSEL TO FILE A DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICE CLAIM AGAINST THEM.*AK

MY TRUCK'S HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SYSTEM HAS FAILED TWICE NOW. BOTH OF THESE TIMES IT PREVENTED ME FROM DISENGAGING THE MOTOR AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS BOTH TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPAIRED MY VEHICLE BOTH TIMES AT NO COST, BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THIS CAUSES ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND KILL SOMEONE, MYSELF INCLUDED, WHO THEN WILL BE RESPONSIBLE? IN MY OPINION THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DEFECT RENDERS THE TRUCK UNSTOPPABLE. THE FIRST OCCURANCE, THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 1200 MILES ON IT. THE SECOND ONE WAS JUST RECENTLY AT 20,900 MILES. I'VE ONLY HAD THE TRUCK APPROXIMATELY TWENTY MONTHS. THAT IS RIDICULOUS.

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY, AND THERE WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER VEHICLE. ALSO THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER HOOD, IN WHICH CONSUMER BELIEVES STARTED WITH THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS PRIOR. *AK CONSUMER HAD PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION, THE FIRST DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, CONSUMER DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR THE SECOND OPINION, WHILE ON HIS WAY TO THE DEALER, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE.*YD
