WHILE DRIVING ON PA INTERSTATE 81, MY 2005 F250 EXPERIENCED SEVERE DRIVING LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN THE FRONT SUSPENSION TRAVELED OVER AN AREA OF THE ROAD THAT WAS UNEVEN. THIS CAUSED THE TRUCKS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME TO THE EXTENT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING INTO THE OTHER LANE OF TRAFFIC. DECELERATING BY RELEASING THE GAS PEDDLE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY STOP THE SEVERE VIBRATIONS AND APPLYING THE BRAKES SEEMED TO INCREASE THE PROBLEM. MY ENTIRE FAMILY AND A NON-FAMILY MEMBER WAS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME AND WE ALL FEARED FOR OUR LIVES. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, THERE IS A VIDEO POSTED BY ANOTHER FORD OWNER AND IS EXACTLY WHAT WE HAD EXPERIENCED TOO. REGARDS 2005 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY VIN:[XXX] THE REAR AXLE BACK PLATE / DUST SHIELD HOLDS THE HOLDING PINS FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS RUST OUT AROUND THE PINS AND RENDERS THE BRAKES USE LESS. WHICH CAUSES THE PADS TO DRAG ON THE DRUM AND THEREFORE POUR ACCELERATION/ PREMATURE DAMAGE TO PADS AN DRUM. I WAS TOLD BY A FORD DEALER THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $300 PER PLATE NEED 2 SO $600 PLUS FOUR HOURS IN LABOR. THE FORD SERVICE TENANT TOLD ME THE REPLACEMENTS ARE IN STOCK AND ARE NOT KNOWN TO RUST AND FAIL. SO I ASKED OTHERS OWNERS AND OF COURSE THEY EITHER HAD THE WORK DOWN AT COST OR WERE WAITING TO HAVE THE FUNDS TO DO SO. WHEN YOUR STILL MAKING PAYMENTS AND PAYING OTHER BILLS IT'S HARD TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE DONE THIS EARLY IN THE VEHICLES LIFE. NOW I LIVE NEW ENGLAND SO YEAH THERE'S SALT AND MUD / DIRT TO FACTOR IN BUT I DON'T PUT A BOAT IN THE WATER WITH IT OR WAIT UNTIL A RAIN STORM TO RINSE OF THE SALT AND MUD. ACCORDING TO SEASON AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. NOW I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OR WHAT YEAR RANGE OF VEHICLES WHERE AFFECTED. BUT A RECALL WOULD MAKE SENSE. OF COURSE I FIND THIS OUT AFTER I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT AND REAR CALIPERS AND RUBBER HOSES AT 45000 MILES BUT NOT THE BRAKE SHOES THEY WERE STILL GOOD. BOTH REAR BRAKES BURNING, THEN LEFT FRONT. LOSS OF BRAKING. BROUGHT TO DEALER TO HAVE REPAIRED. AFTER HAVING IT REPAIRED ( NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED OR OTHER WARRANTY AND SPENDING $1100.00) I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO NOT DRIVING THE TRUCK ENOUGH. DROVE THE TRUCK THE NEXT DAY AND THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE WAS BURNING AGAIN AND LOST ALL BRAKES. AGAIN TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AT WHICH POINT IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE MODEL YEAR 2005 HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES FREEZING IN THE CALIPERS CONSISTENTLY, HOWEVER FORD HAS NOT HAD ANY RECALLS. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THERE HAS BEEN A RE-DESIGN OF THE BRAKE PADS, WHICH MY ORIGINAL PADS HAD NOT CHANGED, BUT STILL HAD BRAKE MATERIAL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F250 SUPER DUTY. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD SQUEALING FROM THE VEHICLE. HE THEN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE DRUM WAS RUSTED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

ON ABOUT FEB 22 2009 MY TRUCK DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE CALIPER FROZE UP CAUSING THE ROTOR TO GET EXTREMELY HOT. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE. TRUCK ONLY HAD 22600 MILES ON IT. OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE OF YEAR, THEREFORE COSTING ME OVER $400.00. *TR

I'VE EXPERIENCED A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE CALIPERS ON MY 05' FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY. IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OF A CALIPER HANGING UP OR NOT RELEASING AFTER BRAKING. THE CALIPER HEATS UP, THE TRUCK SHAKES, SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY AND BRAKING ABILITY IS DIMINISHED. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP, AND IT FIRST OCCURRED AT 19,000 MILES ON A FRONT CALIPER. FORD HAS SINCE REPLACED ALL THE CALIPERS AT LEAST ONCE UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY, BUT NOW REFUSES TO HELP. I'VE REPLACED THE REAR CALIPERS AT MY COST WITH REMANUFACTURED ONES, AND I'M STILL CONTINUING TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I'VE SPOKEN WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WHO HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, SO IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I'VE BEEN RELUCTANT TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT'S PAID FOR IN FULL, AND BECAUSE APART FROM THE OBVIOUS BRAKE DEFECT, IT ISN'T OTHERWISE A BAD TRUCK. I STRONGLY FEEL THE CALIPER DESIGN IS FAULTY AND COULD EASILY CAUSE A PERSON TO LOOSE STEERING CONTROL IF IT OCCURS IN A FRONT CALIPER. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD ABOUT A YEAR AGO, DESCRIBING WHAT THEY TERMED A "HANDLING ANOMALY" WHERE THE TRUCK SHIMMIES UNCONTROLLABLY AND FAILS TO STOP SHAKING WITHIN A FEW SECONDS LIKE A "NORMAL SHIMMY". WHILE FORD ATTRIBUTES THIS TO TIRES AND SUSPENSION, I BELIEVE THIS IS THE BRAKE DEFECT THAT'S CAUSING THE SHIMMY. IT'S EASY TO TELL WHICH INDIVIDUAL CALIPER IS STICKING AS IT AND OFTEN EVEN THE WHEEL WILL BE VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH WHILE THE OTHER THREE ARE COOL. IN FACT I'VE HAD VISIBLE SMOKE COMING FROM A SINGLE BRAKE. IT SHOULD BE EASY TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM-- DRIVE MY STUPID TRUCK FOR A WEEK AND YOU'LL FIND IT. I'LL GLADLY LET YOU. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F250 SUPER DUTY. HE EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE TWICE WHILE DRIVING, BUT WAS ABLE TO AVOID TWO CRASHES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR HE EXPERIENCED REDUCED BRAKING CAPABILITY. HE ALSO SMELLED A BURNING ODOR DURING BRAKE APPLICATION AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F-250 SD. WHILE ACCELERATING, THE MANUAL LEVER ON THE DASHBOARD THAT WAS USED TO LOCK THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO NOT HAVE TRAILER BRAKES WHEN DRIVING LESS THAN 15 MPH. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE MADE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. ON MARCH 23, 2005, THE MANUFACTURER MADE A MODIFICATION TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. HOWEVER, VEHICLES THAT WERE MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO THAT DATE WERE NOT REPAIRED; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS A 52,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

THE VACUUM HUBS ON A FORD F250 ARE STUCK IN THE LOCK POSITION. MAKES TRUCK JUMP FROM ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE NEXT. I HAVE TO FIGHT THE STEERING WHEEL TO STAY IN MY LANE. IT STARTED ONLY WHEN I TURN SHARP IT WOULD STICK THEN BRAKE FREE AFTER A I STOP , AND NOW I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE WITHOUT GOING FROM LANE TO LANE. BOUGHT NEW HUBS THAT ARE NOT VACUUM HUBS ONES THAT ARE 100% MANUAL. *TR
