While pulling a 38ft 5th wheel camper on an incline with the cruise control set at random the vehicle completely dies. It experiences a total shutdown of the engine, which in return causes a complete loss of power steering, brakes etc. The truck will not restart until you push the off button and open the drivers door to shut the entire system down

A message was displayed to reduce the truck speed. Then the speed started to reduce itself, I wasn't able to increase the speed. I was on a Hwy and the speed limit was 65 mph and on a slight hill the trucks speed was only 39 mph. I put the flashers on hoping to alert the cars passing me that I had a problem. Then the engine died so I steered it over to the side of the road. I tried to re-start it and the truck shook before it died again. I had it towed to a Ford dealer in Boerne, TX. They called me the following day and said the high-pressure fuel pump came apart. They said they saw metal parts in the fuel and their estimate to fit the truck was $18,000! I had it towed to another automotive place, I just needed another opinion. Then I heard about 2 recalls Ford had this year, 1 in January and another just ramping up. The description of the problem sounds exactly like my issue however it didn't cover the 2017 models! I let Chandler Automotive, in Castroville, TX know and they said they would look in to it.

Ford has a problem where the 34 gallon gas tank only reads as a 20-25 gallon gas tank. They have a service bulletin on it and the number for that is 17-0046. After calling multiple dealerships I was told thousands would have to come out of my pocket because of their factory defect. The fix includes replacing the whole fuel tank and also replacing the fuel level sender. My vehicle being within the dates are clearly affected by this defect and I don’t understand why it should be coming out of my pocket. Thank you for your help!

Fuel pump loses prime at the fuel rail, causing 6.2 gas engines to crank for a long time. Faulty check valve. It seems ford made a revision on the pump and never did a recall.

Mar 12, 2025

I own a 2017 Ford F-250 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel with a CP4 fuel pump that recently failed. Ford has already recalled this exact part for 2020-2022 models (Recall 24V-841) due to known defects, but they refuse to assist owners of earlier models like mine, even though the issue is the same. The CP4 failure can cause sudden fuel system failure, which is dangerous while driving. Ford should extend the recall to cover all affected vehicles before more owners are left with costly repairs or safety risks.

Mar 5, 2025 Fire

On Tuesday, [XXX], at approximately [XXX] PM, I was driving southbound on [XXX] near Coalinga, CA, when my truck suddenly experienced a failure. I noticed smoke in the side mirror and asked my passenger to confirm. Moments later, a "Low Fuel Pressure" message appeared on the dashboard, and smoke began coming from the hood. I immediately pulled over and attempted to pop the hood, at which point flames erupted from the engine bay. The fire quickly spread, fully engulfing the vehicle within minutes. Emergency responders, including Cal-Fire and CHP, arrived on the scene. The truck was towed by Cal-State Towing Service in Huron, CA. The Fire Captain on site provided an incident card, but the full fire report is expected to take at least a week to obtain. There were no prior indications of mechanical issues before this incident, and no recent repairs or modifications to the fuel system or engine. However, I recently became aware of an ongoing NHTSA investigation into fuel leaks and fire risks in Ford Super Duty trucks equipped with the 6.7L diesel engine (TFL Truck Report). The investigation highlights a potential issue with fractures in the secondary fuel filter housing, which could lead to fuel leaks and fire hazards. Given that my truck displayed a Low Fuel Pressure warning immediately before catching fire, I strongly suspect this failure may be related to the issue under investigation. The truck is currently in tow yard storage and is available for inspection upon request. This incident posed a serious safety risk to myself, my father and others on the roadway, and I believe it warrants further examination by NHTSA. The Fuel Pump Failed , yes it is available for inspection upon request. Truck cut off in middle of busy road way , unable to move to shoulder creating a high risk to be hit or someone to be hit . Independent service center diagnosed was made aware this is a common problem . No warning lights or previous symptoms before engine cut off . We have been informed this is a recurring issue with Ford F250 creating a dangerous enviorment when driving for the driver and all other vehicles on the road .

1 .Driver's side door will not close in cold weather due to frozen actuator. TSB has been issued on this problem; Ford will not repair due to vehicle being out of warranty. 2. Backup/vehicle camera's do not always work when truck is in reverse. TSB has been issued on this problem; Ford will not repair due to vehicle being out of warranty. 3. Ford inadvertently installed a substantially smaller fuel tank on my specific vehicle. TSB has been issued on this problem; Ford will not repair due to vehicle being out of warranty.

The CP4 fuel pump began failing with the truck just over 100K miles. When taken in for routine service there were traces of metal shavings in my fuel. This is a widely known problem with the CP4 and is still being used in Ford trucks. The cost of repairs is substantial. The best case is you catch it early and it only costs between $3-6,000. If I had not caught this and the entire fuel system had been damaged, my local Ford dealership informed me it could cost close to $16,000. This is a devastating amount of money to pay for a well known issue in Ford trucks.

The hose connecting to the fuel filter in the engine compartment came off and dump fuel all over the engine. Luckily we turned it off before a fire started. This has happened 3 times now.

I have been made aware of the probe involving 2015-2021 Ford Super Duty pickups where the fuel filter housing and fuel lines have cracked. I wanted to make you aware that in November 2023, my vehicle suffered the same part failure. Park Ford in Tallmadge Ohio did the repair and I paid for it out of pocket. It was significant and I had diesel fluid leaking profusely. My vehicle is a 2017 Ford F-250 with the diesel engine and at that time only had approximately 50,000 miles on it. I thought it was odd that this part failed. I see it may not have been an isolated occurrence. I wanted to add my complaint to those being investigated by your agency.

This is the third time i have had to tow this vehicle in less than a year and half for a Long Crank no start. The fixed a melted wiring harness the first time. Second time couldn't tell me what the problem was but got it running and then now its back at the dealership again for the same problem.

Feb 22, 2024

The engine light activated on the dash randomly while driving. My truck was experiencing loss of power and for the next few days and reduced fuel mileage. I checked the engine code and learned it is a common error with 2017 Ford Super Dutys with the 6.7L diesel engine. The code is “DTC P203B”, sometimes indicated as P203B00 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a manufacturer-specific fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing reductant level sensor circuit range/performance. I believe this error in manufacturing is a safety risk because it is common within these trucks and can leave motorists stranded or potentially disable the vehicle in the roadway causing a traffic hazard.

While responding my personal vehicle to a motor vehicle collision (volunteer first responder) my 2017 f250 lost all power at 70+ miles an hour on a highway. Power steering and power brakes were not functioning and caused a delay in service to the community. Mechanic diagnosed it as a contaminated fuel system from the problematic Bosch CP4 pump, which Ford is well aware of. They even have a “kit” to fix this issue costing well over $6,000. This is a major safety issue when all power is lost especially if towing trailers.

Engine light keep coming on and I was losing power. I had to spend $10,000.00 getting it fuel filter system had metal savings. I need to be reimbursed for this problem, when I took it in the shop to get it fixed. They stated 2017’s had this problem come on Ford I love my truck and very sad that I had to spend this amount of money. Please contact me with your help [XXX] [XXX] [XXX]. vehicle looses power and shuts down while driving.....fuel injection kit is not available for purchase. Part number is HC3z9b246b to correct problem is on back order and no estimate on when part will become available. The truck has been at the dealership for 5 weeks. A hugh company like Ford this is totally unacceptable and dangerous say the least

Mar 25, 2023

Connectors on upper fuel filter cracked and diesel was spraying all over the engine compartment.

Mar 21, 2023

There is a pin hole in the center of plastic housing for the upper fuel filter on my 2017 F250 diesel. Shoots fuel out when driving. Very dangerous. Appears to be similar to the 2022 ford diesel fuel filter recall.

Jun 22, 2022

After driving for over an hour at highway speed, I smelled something but could not determine what it was. The next day I drove around town and once when I pulled up to a traffic signal, I noticed the smell again and some light smoke coming from the front of the truck. When I got home, I opened the hood and diesel fuel was dripping off the hood insulator and running all over the engine and around the seals around the hood. I cranked the engine again to see if I could determine where it was coming from and a saw a stream shooting straight up from the center of the engine. I took it to a local Ford dealership, and they repaired it. The top of the fuel filter mounted in the top center of the engine ruptured and sprayed diesel all over the engine. I left the part at the dealership after the repair. There were no dashboard warnings and there was no change in vehicle responsiveness in pressing the accelerator. When I returned from the dealership, the diesel that had spilled reached the exhaust system and smoke came out from under the center of the truck. It half-emptied the fuel tank in 3 days. I know diesel in not as volatile as gasoline, but this was still a dangerous situation.

Apr 21, 2022

Fuel filter cracks on the top and squirts diesel fuel all over engine bay. Happened once at 35k miles and then happened again at 44k miles. Very dangerous considering it can start a fire and no lights turned on.

Apr 21, 2022

As I was driving down the road, I started to smell diesel fuel. No warning lights were illuminated on the dash. I pulled over and found that diesel fuel was leaking under the truck from under the engine. When I checked under the hood, I found that the secondary diesel filter had a stream of diesel coming out of it. I was able to safely get the vehicle home and started researching online, I found that this was a common problem but was not issued as part of a recall from Ford. I did find that the part was simple to replace so I performed the replacement myself. Unfortunately, I discarded the faulty part so it is not available for inspection but this is a common issue which many have experienced and I believe that finding a faulty filter will be easy. I am in contact with someone that has one on hand.

CP4 HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE LEAVING VEHICLE DISABLED COMPLETELY AND A DRIVER WAS PUT AT RISK TRAVELING ABOUT 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS PUMP FAILED COMPLETELY. HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS FAILURE IS A KNOWN FAILURE TO FORD. THIS PUMP WAS MADE FOR EUROPEAN GAS NOT AMERICAN GAS - DOES NOT LUBRICATE THE SYSTEM AS IT SHOULD. APPROX. EXPENSE IS $9,500.00 TO INSTALL THE DISASTER KIT (ABOUT $6,000) AND AT LEAST 26 MAN HOURS (LABOR) TO REPAIR AS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE. NEED FORD TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS THE DRIVER AND OTHERS COULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN A FATAL SITUATION SINCE THE VEHICLE LOSSES ALL POWER AND IS UNCONTROLLABLE AT THAT POINT. WE NEED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS REPAIR AS WE WERE NEVER INFORMED THAT THIS PUMP WAS IN THIS VEHICLE BY THE DEALER THAT SOLD US THIS VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2017. Consumer stated CP4 High Pressure Fuel Pump failed and the expense repair was over $6,000 for the disaster kit.

Apr 11, 2019 Crash

WE (MY WIFE AND I) WERE COMING BACK FROM LOUISIANA TO HOUSTON, TEXAS ON A 4 HOUR ROAD TRIP. WE WERE ON I-610 IN HOUSTON WHEN WE STARTED TO SMELL DIESEL. I LOOKED DOWN AT MY FUEL GAUGE AND SAW THE "MILES TO EMPTY" DROPPING RAPIDLY, SO I SLOWED DOWN ON I-610 AND STARTED TAKING THE EXIT RAMP TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. AS WE ENTERED THE EXIT RAMP, THE BACK END OF MY TRUCK STARTED SLIDING AND DID A FULL CIRCLE UNTIL MY BACK BUMPER HIT THE EXIT RAMP GUARD RAIL. LUCKILY, THE CARS BEHIND US WERE FAR ENOUGH BACK THAT WE DID NOT GET HIT OR SEVERELY INJURED. WE PULLED OFF THE EXIT RAMP INTO THE NEAREST GAS STATION ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY TO DISCOVER DIESEL POURING OUT OF THE FRONT OF MY PICKUP. WE FOUND DIESEL ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF MY PICKUP, THE REAR TIRES, AND ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND INTERIOR OF THE HOOD. IT MADE SENSE WHY WE RANDOMLY STARTED SLIDING ON THE EXIT RAMP WHEN IT WAS SUNNY OUT AND WE WERE GOING UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT. I HAVE VIDEOS OF THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING MOUNTED TO THE MOTOR WHERE IT IS CLEARLY VERY LOOSE AND DIESEL HAD LEAKED OUT AND GONE EVERYWHERE. WE FOUND THAT AS LONG AS THE KEY IS ON, DIESEL WILL LEAK SEVERELY. WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED OFF, THE LEAK SLOWS DOWN TO DROPS. IT HAS BEEN 3000 MILES SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE AND NO ONE HAS EVER TOUCHED THE FUEL FILTER. THE DEALERSHIP (AUTONATION FORD IN KATY, TEXAS) IS TRYING TO BLAME THE PROBLEM ON US SO THEY AREN'T LIABLE - SAYING THE CRASH CAUSED IT, THEN SAYING WE MESSED UP THE FUEL FILTER, AND WHO KNOWS WHAT THEIR NEXT EXCUSE WILL BE. WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE WE HAVE RECEIVED ON A PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW TRUCK. THE TRUCK HAS ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR LATCH FREEZING AND NOT HOLDING THE DOOR SHUT.

WITH NO NOTICE THE TRUCK CUT OFF AT A BUSY INTERSECTION AND WOULD NOT RESTART. BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION THE POLICE ORDERED A TOW TO MOVE IT QUICKLY. LATER ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOWED IT TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD BUT THEY REQUIRED MORE THROUGH WORK TO QUOTE IT ALL. IT ENDED UP THE WHOLE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE FUEL INJECTORS. FORD CLAIMED IT WAS DUE TO WATER CONTAMENATED FUEL HOWEVER MY INSURANCE SENT A SAMPLE PULLED FROM THE TRUCK AND FOUND ONLY METALS CONSISTENT WITH THE MATERIAL FOUND IN THE FUEL SYSTEM BUT NO WATER. MY INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWED RECALLS FOR THIS TRUCK WERE ISSUED FOR A MISSING STRAP ON THE FUEL PUMP BUT NOT FOR MY VIN WHICH WAS PRODUCED IN THE KENTUCKY PLANT. WHEN I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP THEY ENCOURAGED ME TO CONTACT FORD CORPORATE AS THEY COULD NOT ASSIST ME FURTHER. THE TRUCK SHUTTING OFF WITH NO WARNING IS A DANGER TO THE DRIVER. I WAS BILLED $9,493.49 BECAUSE THEY CLAIMED WATER CONTAINATION IN THE FUEL WHICH WAS NOT PRESENT. I HAD THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE CHECK THE LAST PLACED I PURCHASED FUEL AND IT WAS ALSO FINE AS WAS THE FUEL THE INSURANCE COMPANY PULLED FROM THE TRUCK. FORD OWES THE CONSUMER A RECALL AND REINBURSEMENT FOR THE CHANGES! THIS HAPPENED TO BE THE 2ND FUEL SYSTEM THIS TRUCK HAS RECEIVED. THE FIRST WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT I AM UNABLE TO LOAD THE SERVICE RECORD DETAILS DUE TO FILE SIZE. I WILL SEND THEM IF YOU WILL ALLOW IT.
