TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE POWER OF STEERING FAILED AND AS A RESULT THE STEERING SHAFT BROKE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT DUE TO THE FAILURE HE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL AND CRASHED INTO SNOW BANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT LEAST 30 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A TURN OR SWITCHING LANES, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM WOULD NOT RETURN THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO CENTER, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT OUTSIDE THE LANES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER REGARDING THE ISSUE AND THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE STEERING BOX AND RECOMMENDED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL REGARDING THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 98V116000- STEERING: GEAR BOX OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 161,000.

I HAVE HAD 2 STEERING GEAR BOXES BREAK ON MY TRUCK. THE FIRST WAS WHEN MY TRUCK WAS HIT WHILE PARKED. THE INDIVIDUAL HIT THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE AND DENTED IN THE FRONT BUMPER AND FENDER. IT WAS NOT UNTIL WE WENT TO LOAD THE TRUCK ON THE WRECKER THAT WE DISCOVERED THE BROKEN BOX. THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID AN INDIVIDUAL MAKING A TURN IN FRONT OF THEM. I JERKED MY WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO GO OVER THE CURB AND AVOID THE ACCIDENT BUT WHEN MY TIRES HIT THE CURB IT SHEARED OF THE PITMAN ARM RIGHT BELOW THE STEERING GEARBOX WHICH RESULTED IN ME LOSING MY STEERING. I THEN PLOWED INTO THE VEHICLE INFRONT OF ME WITH NO WAY TO AVOID THEM. THE CURB WAS NOT A VERY BIG ONE AND IT WORRIES ME THAT THIS IMPORTANT PART BROKE SO EASY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED HIM OF RECALL NUMBER 98V116000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION)). HOWEVER, FORD STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF THERE WAS A RECALL, HE WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,858 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

I HAVE HAD IT TO THE FORD GARAGE IN MISSOULA, MT AND THEY SAID THE STEERING HAD BEEN SET UP TOO TIGHT AND THAT IT WAS NOW SET TO FACTORY SPECS AND IT STILL ISN'T RIGHT. THE GARAGE SAID THAT THEY COULD REPLACE ALL PARTS IN THE STEERING AND IT STILL WOULDN'T MAKE THE TRUCK HANDLE GOOD. WHAT'S WITH THAT?
