TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F-350 SD EQUIPPED WITH BF GOODRICH BAJA CHAMPION ALL TERRAIN (NA) TIRES, SIZE: FT285/75/R16 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMALLY LOUD POPPING NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE LOWER PART OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SHOULDER, WHERE IT WAS WITNESSED THAT A REFLECTOR HAD LODGED ITSELF INTO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE FAILED DUE TO IT BEING PUNCTURED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,006 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60.

TRAVELING NORTH ON HWY 97 IN NORTH CENTRAL OREGON. FELT A SLIGHT VIBRATION, QUICKLY CHECKED MIRRORS AND ROAD SURFACE...A FEW SECONDS LATER THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE EXPLODED. WE WERE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY, NO TRAFFIC AROUND IN EITHER DIRECTION. I EASED THE TRUCK ON TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. I CHANGED THE TIRE, CLEANED THE PIECES OF TIRE OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CONTINUED TO OUR HOME APPROX. 50 MILES AWAY. I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY (PEMCO IN SEATTLE, WA) I WAS TOLD THAT BFGOODRICH WOULD BE CONTACTING ME TO INSPECT THE TIRE, BUT AS OF APRIL 24 I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD F350 SUPER DUTY. IN APRIL OF 2008, THE CONTACT PURCHASED FOUR USED NOKIAN VATIIVA TIRES, SIZE LT265/75R16. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE. ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2008, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON AN ELEVATED ROAD, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ALMOST PLUMMETED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER REGAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHANGED THE TIRE WITH ANOTHER SPARE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY MAILED HIM A CLAIM FORM AND ASKED HIM TO SHIP THEM THE DEFECTIVE TIRES. THEY WANTED TO PERFORM AN INVESTIGATION TO ENSURE THAT THE BLOW OUTS WERE NOT DUE TO ANY DEFECTS. WHEN THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE CLAIM FORM, HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AGAIN AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
