MY 2016 F350 SUPER DUTY 4WD DISESAL HAS A DEATH WOBBLE WITH ONLY 46,OOO MILES. THE DEALERSHIP AT SEMINOLE FORD, SEMINOLE OKLAHOMA 405-382-2222 TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 1200 TO FIX THIS. I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY YESTERDAY AND MY VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL ALMOST CAUSING ME TO WRECK. I IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I WILL FORWARD THE BILL WHEN I RECEIVE IT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A FACTORY DEFECT THAT I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR, I HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP ONE MONTH AGO AND HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW DEF HEATER AT THE TUNE ALMOST $1,000. AT THAT TIME THEY DID THEIR MULTI-POINT INSPECTION WHICH SHOWS THAT THE PARTS THAT FAILED WERE ALL FINE. PLEASE HELP ME AS FORD IS TRYING TO SCREW ME OVER ON A 70K TRUCK WITH MINIMAL MILES. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD PAY FOR NOT THE CONSUMER.

DEATH SHIMMY. STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN A BUMP OR DISCONTINUITY IN THE ROAD IS ENCOUNTERED. YOU CANNOT HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL DURING THIS EVENT. CURE IS TO REDUCE VEHICLE SPEED BELOW 15 MPH. THIS IS HAZARDOUS IF TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED OR PULLING A TRAILER. AS YOU CANNOT HOLD THE WHEEL DURING THIS EVENT, THE VEHICLE WILL CHANGE LANES AND PRESENTS A FATAL HAZARD AS YOU ATTEMPT TO REDUCE SPEED FROM 65 MPH TO BELOW 15 MPH WITHOUT STEERING CONTROL. FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM IN LETTER 09L02 SENT IN 2009 AND AGAIN IN 2015. THEIR SOLUTION TO PROPERLY INFLATE THE TIRES IS FALSE AS TIRE PRESSURE HAS NO EFFECT ON OCCURANCE OR SEVERITY. I WAS IN OAKLAND CALIFORNIA I880 NORTH NUMBER FOUR LANE PULLING MY CAR TRAILER WITH A LOAD WHEN THE "DEATH WOBBLE" OCCURRED, BEFORE I COULD GRAB THE TRAILER BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, THE RIG STARTED A WHIP AND THE TRAILER STRUCK THE "K" RAIL. I SLOWED TO ABOUT 10MPH BEFORE THE SHIMMY STOPPED. THE FENDER ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRAILER WAS DESTROYED AND BLEW BOTH TIRES ON THE TANDEM AXLE TRAILER. LUCKILY NO ONE ELSE WAS INVOLVED AND NO ONE WAS HURT. THIS TRUCK NOW IS ON IT'S THIRD SET OF THE FACTORY B.F. GOODRICH RUGGED TRAIL T/A RADIALS ON THE FRONT. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE ALIGNED WITH EACH TIRE CHANGE AND HAVE EXPERIMENTED WITH TIRE PRESSURES, IT DOES NOT MATTER, AFTER ABOUT TEN THOUSAND MILES ON A SET OF TIRES IT SHIMMIES AGAIN. I HAVE RESORTED TO THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF MY 30 YEAR OLD CHEVY HALF TON AND OVERLOADING IT BY UP TO 50% OUT OF FEAR FOR THIS TRUCK. BECAUSE OF SHEAR NUMBERS INVOLVED, NOTHING WILL EVER BE DONE BY THE NHTSA ABOUT THIS VEHICLE TYPE'S DEFECTS. *TR

I OWN A 2006 FORD F-350 KING RANCH CREW CAB FOUR WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. A FEW TIMES THROUGH OUT THE YEARS THERE HAD BEEN A SHAKE AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD AT 60MPH+. WE RECEIVED A LETTER NOTING A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED BRAKES AND 2 TIRES (OTHER 2 HAD BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY) AND WHEN WE DROVE IT HOME IT STARTED "THE DEATH WOBBLE" (AS THE DEALER CALLS IT-AND AS I SEE MANY OTHERS ON THE INTERNET). THE TRUCK STARTED EXPERIENCING VIOLENT FRONT-END SHAKING. DURING AN EPISODE OF LEFT-TO-RIGHT SHAKING, THE TRUCK IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. WITH MY HAND PLACED ON THE 12:00 POSITION ON THE STEERING WHEEL, THE SHAKING VIOLENTLY TURNS THE STEERING WHEEL TO WHERE MY HAND IS GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN 10:00 AND 2:00. SLOWING DOWN TO 30MPH HAS STOPPED EACH OF THE THREE EPISODES. THIS TRUCK HAS DEALER INSTALLED TIRES AND DOES NOT HAVE A LIFT KIT ON IT. AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES EQUAL MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATION. THEY ACTED AS IF THIS IS AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM AT FIRST, AND SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A LETTER THAT WENT OUT. THEN THE NEXT VISIT THEY SAY SO COMMONLY, THAT IT IS THE DEATH WOBBLE AND WILL COST $1500. IT APPEARS THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BLAMED TIRE PRESSURE, GIANT AFTERMARKET TIRES, AND LIFT KITS FOR THIS PROBLEM. MY TRUCK HAS NONE OF THESE POSSIBLE CAUSES. *TR

I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON I59 THROUGH MERIDIAN MISSISSIPPI AT APPROXIMATELY 8:00 PM YESTERDAY ON 06/22/2012. I CAME ACROSS AN OVERPASS AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN THE ROUGH SURFACE OF THE BRIDGE CAUSED THE TRUCK TO SHAKE VERY VIOLENTLY IN THE FRONT END. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO CONTROL/CORRECT IT BY HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL FIRMLY AND BRAKING. IT STARTED TO SUBSIDE AND THEN STARTED AGAIN. I HELD THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT AND FIRM, AND BRAKED HARDER UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPPED. I HAD SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 MPH BEFORE IT HAD STOPPED. THIS ALL TOOK PLACE IN MATTER OF SECONDS. THOUGH FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE TRUCK EARLIER ON THIS DAY, I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT IT HAPPENED WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE IN DECEMBER 2011 WAS A STEERING STICK IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN AND REQUIRED FORCE TO TURN OPPOSITE THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN. THE PROBLEM CEASED AND DID NOT REOCCUR UNTIL MID-MAY OF 2012. THE PROBLEM MANIFESTED ITSELF AS A SEVERE OSCILLATION OF THE VEHICLE STEERING ACCOMPANIED BY DIRECTIONAL STICKING AND "INDEXING" IN THE STEERING. THE FIRST ATTEMPT AT REPAIR WAS TO FLUSH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THIS ACTUALLY RESULTED IN A WORSE OSCILLATION. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL INTERMITTENT BUT OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND I ASKED FOR THE STEERING GEAR TO BE REPLACED. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT STEP WAS TO REPLACE THE STEERING DAMPER. THIS ALSO DID NOT RESULT IN ELIMINATION OF THE PROBLEM. DURING THE DAMPER REPLACEMENT IT WAS NOTED THAT THERE EXISTED A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF PLAY IN THE DRAGLING BALL JOINT. WHILE NOT PARTICULAR OUT OF THE ACCEPTABLE RANGE WE AGREED TO REPLACE THE DRAG LINK. THE DRAG LINK HAS BEEN REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO DEMONSTRATE A "WALKING" MOTION REQUIRING THE OPERATOR TO ACTIVELY STEER THE VEHICLE TO REMAIN IN A LANE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WILL DEMONSTRATE RELATIVELY GOOD STABILITY IN A SWEEPING TURN UNTIL THE WHEEL IS DISPLACED BEYOND ROUGHLY 5 DEGREES AT WHICH POINT THE STEERING DISPLAYS AN ACTIVE PULL IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN. THE VEHICLE IS BEING RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR CONTINUED EVALUATION. THE FORD TECHNICIANS HAVE EXAMINED AND PASSED THE POWER STEERING PUMP, THE HYDROSLAVE SYSTEM, FRONT TIRES, FRONT TIRE PRESSURE, FRONT BALL JOINTS AS WELL AS THE FRONT AXLE U-JOINTS. AT THIS POINT, THEY HAVE NO FURTHER SUGGESTIONS AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR

THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE TRUCK IS TRAVELING ALONG A ROAD OR HIGHWAY. YOUR DRIVE TURNS INTO A DEATH WOBBLE. THE TRUCK IS UNCONTROLLABLE AND JUMPS LANES AND IS ALL OVER THE ROAD. THIS IS A DANGER THAT HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO FORD BY MANY AND IT IS JUST BEING IGNORED. THIS IS A TRUE DANGER AND MAY NOT ONLY KILL THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS BUT ANYONE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. HE HAD TO DECREASE THE VEHICLES' SPEED TO 30 MPH TO REGAIN STEERING CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE STEERING BUSHING, SHOCKS, LOWER CONTROL, AND IDLER ARMS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN THREE WEEKS OF THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT LOCATED AN INVESTIGATION (NHTSA ITEM NUMBER: PE07057- SUSPENSION:FRONT) WHICH DESCRIBED FAILURE AND INQUIRED WITH THE DEALER. THE DEALER SET THE TIRE PRESSURE TO THE CORRECT MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,444.

I HAVE A 2006 FORD F350 4 WHEEL DRIVE SINGLE WHEEL LONG BED KING RANCH. I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD OR INTERSTATE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 30 AND 80 MILES AN HOUR, AND IF YOU HIT THE SMALLEST IMPERFECTIONS IN THE ROAD THE TRUCK WILL START SHAKING VIOLENTLY, UNCONTROLLABLE, THE STEERING WHEEL MOVES ABOUT 14 INCHES SIDE TO SIDE SO FAST AND HARD, THAT IT TAKES ILL I'VE GOT TO HOLD ON TO THE WHEEL. YOU CAN HEAR THE TIRES CHIRP SIDE TO SIDE ON THE PAVEMENT IT WOBBLES SO SEVERELY. I'VE REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPENER, THE POWER STEERING PUMP, HAD IT ALIGNED 4 TIMES, BRAND NEW TIRES, I HAVE ADJUSTED THE CASTOR ACCORDINGLY TO FORDS TSB FORUM, HAD MY ROTORS TURNED, AND WHEELS AND TIRES BALANCED SO MANY TIMES. ITS SO BAD, IT SHAKES THE STUFF IN THE BED OF MY TRUCK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 92,000 MILES ON IT. IM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I DIDN'T PAY 64,000 DOLLARS FOR A TRUCK THAT I CANT DRIVE. I WILL SPEND THE MONEY TO FIX IT, BUT FORD SAYS ITS A NORMAL CONDITION. *TR

EXCESSIVE FRONT END SHIMMY ON OCCASION WITH MY FORD F350 4X4. I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED, MY TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW AND SUBSEQUENTLY MAINTAINING PROPER TIRE PRESSURE SEEMED TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM FOR A WHILE. HOWEVER, RECENTLY I HIT SOME BUMPS WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE FRONT END BEGAN TO SHIMMY VERY VIOLENTLY. I KNEW TO HIT THE BRAKES TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING, BUT I HAD TO STAY ON MY BRAKES UNTIL I SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH BEFORE I COULD REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I CALLED A LOCAL FORD SERVICE CENTER, BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD "ONLY BE GUESSING" AT THE PROPER WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I THEN CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE, AS I AM NERVOUS ABOUT RIDING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CALL SEVERAL SERVICE CENTERS UNTIL I FIND ONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCE WITH TRYING TO FIX THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE THAT AND I HAVE FOUND THAT NONE OF THE LOCAL DEALERS KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I OWN A 2006 FORD F-350 4X4 SHORT BED CREW CAB PICKUP TRUCK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE EVER BEEN MADE. I HAVE KEPT THE VEHICLE IN GOOD MECHANICAL SHAPE, KEPT THE TIRES INFLATED TO RECOMMENDED LEVELS, AND KEPT THE TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED. THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS EXPERIENCED A SEVERE STEERING OSCILLATION WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING OVER 50 MPH AND HITS A SMALL BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY. THE OSCILLATION IS MOST SEVERE IF THE BUMP IS HIT WHILE IN A LEFT TURN. WHEN THIS OCCURS, I BREAK UNTIL SPEED IS REDUCED TO ABOUT 30 MPH TO 40 MPH AND THE OSCILLATION STOPS. WHEN THIS OSCILLATION OCCURS, THE VEHICLE HAS LIMITED STEERING CONTROL. IT GENERALLY TRAVELS IN A STRAIGHT DIRECTION BUT DOES NOT RESPOND WELL TO STEERING WHEEL INPUT UNTIL THE OSCILLATION IS DAMPENED. THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT AND IN SOME CASES IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. THIS OSCILLATION HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. IN THE CASE TODAY, THIS OSCILLATION WAS SO SEVERE THAT IT HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE INTO THE OPPOSING TRAFFIC LANE. I NEARLY HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION, THE OPPOSING VEHICLE MOVED OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO ALLOW ME TO PASS. THESE OSCILLATIONS HAVE OCCURRED WITH BOTH THE ORIGINAL CONTINENTAL LT275/70R18 TIRES AND ALSO THE REPLACEMENT MICHELIN LT275/70R18 TIRES. TIRES PRESSURES HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED AT 65 PSI FRONT AND 75 PSI REAR AS RECOMMENDED BY THE OWNER'S MANUAL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-350 SD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE STEERING VIBRATED AND WOBBLED EXCESSIVELY. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIMMY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IMMEDIATELY, THE DRIVER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER. SHE DROVE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. HOW SAFE IS THAT ON AN INTERSTATE? I DID RECEIVE A LETTER FROM FORD SAYING THIS COMMON BUT I DISAGREE BECAUSE THIS IS MY THIRD SUPERDUTY AND THE LAST TWO I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY HAD DIESEL ENGINES THIS IS GAS. MY DEALERSHIP TOLD FORD CUSTOMER REP THAT I NEED A ROAD WORTHY TEST OR THE DRIVE SHAFT IS OUT OF BALANCE SO THEY ARE GUESSING TOO. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS LETTER THAT FORD SENT TO SUPERDUTY OWNERS. FORD REP STATED THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP BELIEVES THE PROBLEM IS BECAUSE A GAS ENGINE IS TOO LIGHT AND THE SUPERDUTYS WERE MADE FOR DIESEL ENGINES. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TRUE THIS IS BUT MY FIRST TWO SUPERDUTY TRUCKS I HAD WERE DIESEL AND I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS. I HAVE DRAFTED UP A LETTER TO SEND TO NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL AND TO FORD BUT I AM NOT VERY CONFIDENT ABOUT THE END RESULTS. MY WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT AND NOW IT IS ON MY NICKEL. I EVEN PUT NEW E RATED TIRES ON THE TRUCK IN DECEMBER AND HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE WHICH THEY SAID THE TIRES WERE OUT OF BALANCE AND NEEDED TO BE ROTATED. TRAVELING @55 MPH, WHEN I RAN OVER A SMALL POT HOLE. MY TRUCK SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND STAY IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC AND SLOW DOWN TO A SPEED WHEREIN I COULD BRING MY VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL ( 35 MPH). VISUAL INSPECTION SHOWED NO ANOMALIES. MY TIRES DID NOT APPEAR TO BE DAMAGED AS IF I HAD RUN OVER AN OBJECT. THERE WERE NO OBJECTS IN THE HIGHWAY. APPROXIMATELY 60 MINUTES LATER, AFTER I FINISHED MY ERRAND AND WAS RETURNING HOME, ANOTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED. THIS AS MORE VIOLENT ERRATIC FRONT END JUMPING AND I HAD TO MOVE TO TWO LANES TO STOP MY VEHICLE. AGAIN, INSPECTION SHOWED NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I THEN PROCEEDED DIRECTLY TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE PERSON. I REQUESTED THAT MY VEHICLE BE PLACED ON A LIFT TO GET A COMPLETE INSPECTION. THE MANAGER REFUSED TO DO THIS STATING THAT THIS WAS A CONTINENTAL TIRE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF "STIFF SIDEWALLS"AND THAT I SHOULD RETURN IN A FEW DAYS FOR AN INSPECTION AT THAT TIME AND THEY WOULD PLACE A "STEERING DAMPER" ON MY TRUCK ( OF WHICH I MIGHT BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE" AND THAT MAY OR MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. GOING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS ON HIGHWAY ROUTES WITH SPEED LIMITS OF 55 MPH, I HAVE TO SLOW TO AT LEAST 30 MPH BECAUSE MY FRONT WHEELS START SHAKING SO BAD I CANNOT CONTROL THE TRUCK. MY TRUCK IS USED STRICTLY FOR ONROAD DRIVING AND KEPT IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. I FEEL THAT MY DAY TO DAY DRIVING HAVE NOT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS CONDITION AND FEEL IT COULD BE SOME SORT OF A DEFECT IN MY 2006 F-350. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING ON A REGULAR BASIC SINCE MY PURCHASE OF THE TRUCK 13 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES ROTATED A NUMBER OF TIME AND WAS RECENTLY TOLD THAT MY TIRE RODS NEED TO BE REPLACES. A FORD SERVICE AGENT TOLD ME IT WAS NO REASON WHY MY TIRE RODS WOULD GO BAD SO QUICK FOR NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING. *TR
