The tailgate has been malfunctioning since day one and I had it kind of working here and there but then it ended up coming apart completely and the backup camera has been lost due to that and I just seen that that is a problem that they've had with many of these vehicles and I would love to get that fixed. Also because I do not have no backup camera on this truck it's just crazy. I mean I use it for work and I pull a lot of trailers and it was just you know. I don't even know what to say. I would please love it if somebody could help me get these problems fixed with Ford. I have tried and tried to no avail. I think they're trying to wait for me to get many many miles on my truck. I started trying to get this stuff fixed when I was back at $65,000 mi. You know and they was will not fix nothing. I realized that the door had water in it way back then and they just won't fix it. The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while hauling a trailer and reversing, the powered tailgate erroneously opened and struck the trailer. During the failure, the tailgate and the trailer were damaged. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, the tailgate fell. The contact indicated there was no warning prior to the tailgate falling on several occasions. The contact also stated the four rear outer aluminum rims were constantly allowing the tires to lose air pressure. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed tailgate failure was confirmed. The dealer repaired the tailgate; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

FIRST TIME BACKING A TRAILER ALMOST BENT GATE ON TRAILER JACK 03/13/21 AND THE SECOND TIME WAS GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND LOST A GALLON JUG OF OIL AND THE REST 4 GALS WERE ABOUT TO GO OFF THE TAILGATE. HAD RECALL PERFORM FOR TAILGATE OPENING UNEXPECTEDLY ON MARCH 3, 2020. IN DECEMBER 2020, THE TAILGATE OPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WHILE REVERSING TO ATTACH A TRAILER CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TAILGATE. WE CONTACTED KENDAL FORD IN MERIDIAN ID TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED AND THEY SAID FORD WOULD NOT COVER IT SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND IS NOW CLOSED. THEY WANT IN EXCESS OF $1500.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WITH THE RECALL. FORD WILL NOT BUDGE IN COVERING THIS ISSUE WHICH WAS PART OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL. OBVIOUSLY THE RECALL FOR THE TAILGATE DID NOT WORK. PLEASE CAN YOU HAVE ANOTHER RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS TAILGATE ISSUE. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO HAVE ITEMS IN THE BED OF OUR TRUCK AND NOT KNOWING WHEN THE TAILGATE WILL OPEN AND CONTENTS FALL OUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.

THE POWER TAILGATE WILL RELEASE WHILE IN MOTION. I HAD THE FORD RECALL COMPLETED ONCE, I BELIEVE AROUND SEPTEMBER OF 2020. I JUST HAD THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE POWER TAILGATE FIX DOES NOT APPEAR TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THEY JUST REMOVED THE ORIGINAL RECALLED PARTS AND DID THE RECALL AGAIN ON MY TRUCK. THIS CURRENT WORK WAS COMPLETED ON 1/20/21. PLEASE FORCE FORD TO DO A REPROGRAM OF THE BODY CONTROL MODULE TO INCLUDE NOTIFICATION WHEN THE TAILGATE IS OPEN IN THE DISPLAY IN THE DASH. I WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE IF THE REINSTALLATION OF THE RECALL WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE, MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT.

OCCASIONALLY, THE TAILGATE WILL AUTOMATICALLY FALL, WHEN I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE, FROM A STATIONARY POSITION. I VERIFIED THAT THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE KEY FOB IS NOT IN MY POCKET. THANKFULLY, IT HASN'T HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 50K MILES ON IT. IT STARTED, FOR ME, SOON AFTER I PURCHASED IT USED, IN JUNE 2020.

WHEN THE TAILGATE WENT DOWN ON ITS OWN THE DOORS WERE LOCKED AND THE TRUCK WAS IN GEAR AND MOVING, BOTHE SAFETY FEATURES THAT SHOULD PREVENT THE TAILGATE FROM UNLOCKING'

I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR A NONRELATED REPAIR. WHEN I WAS THERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON TAILGATE OPENING. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT OPENING BUT SINCE IT WAS ALREADY AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OTHER REPAIRS, I OKAYED THE RECALL REPAIR ON THE TAILGATE OPENING ON ITS ON. NOW SINCE I HAVE HAD THE REPAIR DONE ON MY TRUCK THE TAILGATE OPENS ON ITS OWN NOW. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM. BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IF THEY CAN'T VERIFY THE PROBLEM THEY CAN'T FIX IT. BUT I CAN'T MAKE IT DO IT ON COMMAND. IT DOES IT ON ITS OWN ONCE EVERY 7 TO 14 DAYS. CAN I GET HELP ON GETTING THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED? MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THIS HAPPENS I GET INTO MY TRUCK, START IT AND GO TO BACK UP. I GET WARNING TONE AND NOTICE THAT THE TAILGATE IS DOWN. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS GOING OVER AN OVERPASS WHERE THERE WAS CONSTRUCTION AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE TRUCK STARTED VIBRATING AND SWERVING OUT OF CONTROL. MY FEAR WAS THAT I WAS GOING OVER THE BRIDGE! I WAS AFRAID TO HIT THE BREAK FOR FEAR IT WOULD MAKE IT WORSE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS WHILE GOING OVER AN OVERPASS AND HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I AM UNSURE WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. I BROUGHT TO A 3RD PARTY FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE SEAL/GASKET LINER AROUND THE DOOR. 2 YEARS LATER, THE SAME ISSUE HAS RETURNED. I BROUGHT TO MY DEALERSHIP WHERE I CURRENTLY LIVE TWICE WITH THEM STATING THEY COULD NOT RETRIGGER THE NOISE, ALTHOUGH IT'S VERY AUDIBLE ANY TIME THE TRUCK IS DRIVEN. PRICED ME $500 TO CORRECT, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT APPARENTLY COVERS NOTHING. NOT SURE IF IT'S CONNECTED TO THE DOOR LATCH ISSUE OR NOT, BUT A CLEAR WIND AUDIBLE NOISE IS HEARD ANYTIME THE TRUCK IS DRIVEN.

TRYING TO CONVINCE FORD DEALERSHIPS THAT THE TAILGATE WAS UP, AND I DID NOT FORGET TO SECURE OR TOUCHED ONE OF THE BUTTONS TO RELEASE THE LOCK. ON NOVEMBER 21, 2019, WHILE TOWING ON I-44 IN OKLAHOMA, OUR 5TH WHEEL RV, THE TAILGATE OPENED AND DAMAGED THE TAILGATE ALONG WITH THE TWO DOORS OF THE RV. I ALWAYS CHECK MY TRUCK AND RV AFTER EACH SERVICE STOP. I CHECKED AT THE PREVIOUS STOP PRIOR TO LAWTON, OKLAHOMA AND THE TAILGATE WAS UP. I STOPPED AT THE LAST SERVICE STATION ON I-44 PRIOR TO ENTERING TEXAS AND SAW THE TAILGATE DOWN AND THE DAMAGE. UNTIL I GET MY TRUCK REPAIRED, I HAVE HAD TO INSTALL BLACK BUNGIE CORDS TO KEEP THE TAILGATE FROM FALLING.

ON 12/16/18 WHILE MERGING LANES ON HIGHWAY(APPROX.60 MPH) STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY CAUSING VEHICLE TO SWERVE LANE TO LANE. CONTROL WAS ABLE TO BE REGAINED ONLY AFTER SLOWING TO MINIMAL SPEED(ASSUMING 20 MPH OR SO). INCIDENT CAUSED ALL IMMEDIATE TRAFFIC TO STOP. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN INTO BREAKDOWN LANE . DIAGNOSED WITH A TSB 18-2268/06-22214. REPAIRS WILL BE MADE, HOWEVER PARTS ARE BACK ORDERED TILL 1/29/19. TRUCK WAS DEEMED UNSAFE BY DEALER AN WAS RECOMMENDED NOT TO DRIVE. TWO ISSUES.: 1) I HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING THE TIRES INFLATED TO THE CORRECT LEVELS. AFTER FOUR OR FIVE TRIPS BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THIS ISSUE MAY BE CORRECTED. IT WAS SO BAD I HAD TO PURCHASE A PUMP TO MAKE SURE I COULD PUMP THE TIRES UP WHEN I WAS AWAY FROM HOME -- RVING. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TO HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE ISSUE WHEN THEY SOLD ME THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK COULD LOSE 30 POUNDS OF TIRE PRESSURE OVER A TWO WEEK PERIOD. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN MARCH 2018. 2) ON FOUR OR FIVE OCCASIONS THE TAILGATE HAS FALLEN OPEN. ONCE IT DID IT WHILE I WAS TOWING A TRAILER. ON THE OTHER OCCASIONS IT HAS FALLEN OPEN WITHOUT US KNOWING IT. TODAY, MY WIFE USED THE TRUCK. SHE GOT HOME AND PARKED THE TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN SHE WENT OUT TO CHECK THE MAIL, SHE FOUND THE TAIL GATE OPEN. WE RECENTLY COMPLAINED TO FOX FORD, THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD US THE TRUCK. WHEN MY WIFE TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE, SHE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TAILGATE ISSUE. THEY CLAIMED THEY "TIGHTENED IT" ACCORDING TO MY WIFE. WELL, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED. I WILL COMPLAIN AGAIN TO THEM TOMORROW.

ON MAY 24TH, 2018 WHILE DRIVING MY TAILGATE AUTOMATICALLY CAME DOWN. I WAS TOWING A 5TH WHEEL RV TRAILER AT THE TIME AND DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE TAILGATE TOP TRIM AND THE RV FRONT GARAGE DOOR. BOTH THE TRIM AND THE FRONT GARAGE DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, PLUS TOUCHUP PAINT FOR THE TAILGATE EDGES.

TAILGATE OPENS UNEXPECTEDLY. I BOUGHT MY 2017 F350 LARIAT DUALLY USED IN JUNE 2017. 8 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK THE TAILGATE OPENED WHILE I WAS TOWING A GOOSENECK HORSE TRAILER. LUCKILY I WAS ABOUT 50 FEET FROM MY DRIVEWAY. THE TAILGATE WAS CONTACTED BY THE TRAILER AS I TURNED AND HAS SOME DAMAGE FROM AN ALUMINUM FOOT STOOL FALLING OUT. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 OTHER TIMES. EACH TIME I THOUGHT I HAD POSSIBLY BUMPED THE KEY FOB IN MY POCKET, AS IT HAS A TAILGATE RELEASE BUTTON. YOU DO HAVE TO TOUCH THE BUTTON TWO TIMES IN SUCCESSION FOR THE TAILGATE TO OPEN. EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED I HAVE STARTED OR MOVED THE TRUCK, UNLOCKED AND OPENED THE DRIVERS DOOR AND THEN GOT BACK IN THE TRUCK. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOME CORRELATION BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WAY, BUT I DID NOT SEE IT OPEN AS I HAVE TINTED WINDOWS. AND I USUALLY DON'T WATCH THE TAILGATE IN THE MIRRORS.

REAR WINDOW OF STANDARD TRUCK CAB BLEW OUT EXPLOSIVELY SCARING THE DRIVER AND ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. TEMPERED GLASS IS A MENACE IN THIS APPLICATION. DEALERS THINK LEXAN IS ILLEGAL. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON FED HIGHWAY WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND.
