The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal thumping sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the front passenger's side wheel bearing was faulty. The mechanic replaced the front passenger's side wheel bearing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 45,912.

Death wobble over speeds of 55mph when hitting a bump. Parts not available to be fixed. Waited over 4 months with no word from dealer. Called every month still say on back order. Occurs every time hitting a bump or uneven surface o er 55mph.

While driving on I-25 south of Denver on 4/13/2023, I drove over a pothole in the interstate. Immediately the front end began to violently shake resulting in me applying the brakes and rapidly slowing from 65 mph to ~30mph before the shaking stopped. I was then able to continue on. Today (4/15/2023) while traveling to Boulder CO on US Highway 36, the vehicle again began to violently shake as I drove over a bridge expansion joint. Again I had to rapidly decelerate from ~65 mph to ~30 mph before the shaking stopped. Known as “the death wobble”, this issue is well known in these vehicles and must be addressed by the manufacturer

When you hit a bump at road speeds (45 mph+), the steering wheel shakes wildly and you have to slow down immediately to avoid losing control. First happened about 12 months ago. Was not a common issue until more recently. Now it seems to be nearly every time I drive it. Ongoing issue now.

Steering wobble - I was driving on I-5 at 70 mph and ran over a small pothole. The steering started violently and uncontrollably shaking. It caused the truck to drift into the left lane but fortunately no other vehicle was along side. I was able to regain control by cautiously slowing down to about 35 mph. At that point the shaking stopped and steering went back to normal. Checking the tpms, the tires were properly inflated at the time. I went on to drive another 200+ miles without further incident. The 2017 F350 truck had 28,328 miles at the time and has only been driven on paved roads. I have noticed in the past that hitting a bump in the road seems to resonate rather than just an initial “bump” like other vehicles I’ve owned. The truck is well taken care of and has never been in an accident.

Traveling on the highway at approximately 65mph. Encountered a bridge expansion joint and the front tires and steering wheel began shaking violently which resulted in loss of steering and brake control. Apparently, this is a known issue with these trucks.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 60 mph the left front wheel hit a small pothole. The truck immediately begin shaking violently. The extreme shaking involved the entire front end of the truck and the steering wheel. The shaking lasted for approximately 30 seconds and stopped once the speed was reduced to about 40 mph. No warning lights or warning indicators came on before, during or after the incident. I am very fortunate that I was able to maintain enough control of the vehicle to not hit the center median on the freeway or other cars to my right. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION!

The front end of my Ford F350 can cause a forceful wobble when going over small bumps. The last time this occurred was on 11/26/22 while driving on the highway at 65 mph and I drove over one of the seams in the pavement. The front end began to wobble so forcefully, I had to slow down to around 30 mph, putting me and anyone behind me at risk of a rear end collision. I haul a travel trailer and if this were to happen while hauling, it could have more catastrophic effects. I've not been able to get it in to Ford to troubleshoot due to their long delays (7 to 9 weeks) in servicing vehicles. I'm trying again this week to take it in. It's not been inspected by anyone yet. There's no warning when this occurs. The first time this happened was either in the Fall of 2021 or early Spring of 2022.

Okay, been hearing a lot of noises up underneath it, got under there and looked at my heat shields, that are just flaking off everywhere. I'm scared that my truck is going to catch on fire at this point. All of the heat shields around pretty much everything are disintegrating and falling apart. I've already filled out several of these and I went and tried to turn the truck in and to no avail. They have done everything in their power to not fix nothing on my truck. Nothing. I need some help. Please give me a call [XXX] The linkage, the power door locks and the door handles leaking, are all problems that I have and every one of them they know about and I'm scared that the front end is going to fall apart because of that linkage problem.. I can't get them to do nothing for me. I'm so tired of dealing with them and I was going to buy another truck from them and now I'm on the verge of not buying another one from them cuz they won't even fix the problems on this one. Third time returning my Ford F350 to the Friendly Ford dealership where it was purchased because of death wobble. Vehicle is driving at high speeds all three times has been on the freeway and all of a sudden it shakes violently and almost loses control of vehicle. The first time happened in January 18 of 2020 the second time happened June 25 of 2022 and then just three days ago October 12, 2022. The vehicle was almost crashed the last two times it happened. The shaking was so violent on the last time did it caused my fuel line to come loose and spell diesel fuel all the way back into town. again it has been to the dealership three times now to fix the problem and was told this last time that everything looked OK and that I had to test drive it and re-create the situation in order for them to diagnose it. Extremely dangerous to re-create the death wobble. during the second incident when my wife was driving with my three children in the back she narrowly avoided colliding with a concrete barrier. The most recent incident with my self driving and my three children in the back and my wife in the front seat almost caused an accident with a semi driver And the person behind me as it shook violently and I tried to get off the road to stop shaking. There were no warning lights messages or other symptoms of problem prior to the failure. Vehicle has been inspected three separate times by Friendly Ford of Las Vegas at 660 N. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89107. Do not feel safe driving the vehicle.

Truck has was is called a DEATH WOBBLE. At highway speeds the steering will vibrate violently after crossing an expansion joint or bump in the road. Braking or rapid slow down will resolve the shaking. The issue seems to be getting worse. The truck was taken to the dealership for repair. The repair will cost several hundred dollars and not covered by the warranty. the mileage of the truck is 80,112 and is 90% highway miles.

Death Wobble started to occur around August 2021. No prior incidents. After the first time it would continue to happen anytime driving between 45-60 MPH and hitting a bump in the road. Once you found a bump that would trigger the death wobble, you could EASILY recreate the problem. Once the death wobble starts you have to slow down to 5-10 MPH before it’ll quit. During the wobble it is IMPOSSIBLE to control the vehicle as the steering wheel shakes violently and it feels like all wheels are bouncing opposite of one another creating a very scary and violent situation. I had a repair shop go in and replace anything that could be related and had 2 different alignment shops look into the problem. Ultimately nothing solves the issue.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for wheel balancing and alignment; however, the failure persisted. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the front stabilizer and the drag links needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

That the intersection of 1010 and Rhodes Road 6204 Ten-Ten Rd, Apex, NC 27539.. I have been driving it and steady crossing my fingers hoping to God my tires don’t fly off and hurt somebody or kill somebody or me… I just can’t do it anymore, I have got to get the thing in the shop it’s got the death wobble and is just starting to scare me.. I love my truck I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but it’s definitely got a problem I honestly think it may be several different things but at any rate it needs to be fixed

Sunday, April 3, 2021, I was driving from Rte 95 to Rte 128 and the 2 lanes began to merge, but as I was driving the truck hit a bump and I got the death wobble. I had to come to, almost, a complete stop on the highway, with another car coming in behind me. I got through this one, but as I was beginning to accelerate onto Rte 128, the truck began once again to shake violently. It did happen again during this one trip. This also happened 2 other times, in March. Our mechanic replaced tie rod end-right lower outer and steering stabilizer on, Thursday, March 31, 2021.

March 1st 2022 driving at highway speed on Rt 495 S in Massachusetts truck suddenly began to violently shake front end side to side. I was forced to brake, slow down till shaking stopped. Luckily cars behind me and to my right side were able to avoid hitting me. I pulled off highway and checked for something broken or loose. In forward and reverse I couldn’t find anything obvious. Will take my truck to shop today to have front end checked. During violent shaking it was all I could do to hang onto the steering wheel. If I’d only been using one hand who knows what would have happened.

Traveling on Interstate at 65mph and truck shook violently out of control after hitting small pothole. Felt like front wheels were wobbling with no ability to steer safely. After braking hard , problem went away around 35 or 40 mph. Super scary and extremely dangerous. Also charged $660 dollars for wheel alignment and placement of shims with a camber adjustment that “wheel wobble will never happen again “. Not happy I had to pay for their manufacturing design problem.

I am experiencing extremely horrible death wobble to the point that I cannot drive my vehicle. I have taken it to two different Ford dealers in the last five years as well as a repair on my own and it is still not fixed. Ford has not issued a recall as of this date. The death wobble started on my truck at 11,000 miles.

I experienced a violent shaking that happened to the front end of my 2017 Ford F350 Super Duty truck (with 25600 miles on the odometer). It typically occurs at speeds over 50 miles per hour. It's also happened after going over bumps or grooves in the road. I brought my truck into a local repair shop because an appointment with my local dealer wasn't available until Mar 16th (60 days). The repair shop shared with me that they noticed abnormal wear and loosening of the track bar bushing, damper bracket, ball joints, control arms, shocks and struts. Additional they shared its not safe to drive the vehicle in it's current state. Ford has yet to issued a recall for this hazardous defect. Lastly because they haven't admitted to the underlying issue, OEM parts are my only option. This leads to me spending thousands of dollars with no resolution. I very well could be driving a ticking time bomb again.

Hitting the smallest bump in the road at highway seed causes the steering wheel to shake violently. The vehicle is uncontrollable at this point. One has to slow down considerably to regain control. This situation is very dangerous. From what I understand this is a very common problem with this model. Milage does not seem to be a factor.

Driving on highway at 65 slight bump in road & steering wheel went crazy violent vibrating in front end. Had to reduce speed to 20 to get it to stop shaking. Continued down road same thing happened. Shaking is uncontrollable almost crashed. Vehicle can be inspected it does it if I hit a bump or go over 65. No warning lights.

I have a 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty. I've experienced numerous "Death Wobble" issue with this vehicle since I've owned it. It has been at the dealership eight times where Ford has stated the problem was diagnosed and repaired. I just returned from a road trip where I experienced six Death Wobble issues at highway speeds on Interstate 80 from Elko NV to Reno NV. When I pass over uneven pavement the truck front wheels begin to shake violently which forces me to reduce my speed to about 20 miles per hour. Luckily, only two semi trucks had to change lanes to keep from rear ending me. This is an inherent problem with Ford Super Duty trucks. When will the NHTSA force Ford to recall these potentially deadly vehicles? I have several videos of this problem if you would like to see them. I can only download photos.

When you hit a bump it shakes uncontrollable. You cannot steer after it starts shaking and it goes into other lanes and almost hit other vehicles on number of occasions. Yes has been brought to the dealership twice. Have changed number of different parts. No warning came up on system.

When my truck reaches 35 to 40 mph or hits a small bump it begins to shake violently in the steering wheel making it hard to control. I took it to a dealership who stated there was a recall part available, but after the repair the problem immediately began upon leaving their parking lot. My hill decent assist system now turns on and says there is a fault. The dealership was able to reproduce the problem, but stated I would need to pay for any further inspections and repairs out of pocket. I have not reported to my insurance as I didn't think it would be covered by them. The problem began this year in early July (2021) and has yet to be fixed.

When driving a speeds greater than 50 mph I have found that the internet has termed "Death Wobble" in my Truck. When this first occurred I took the truck in and they made some tweaks under warranty and said nothing was wrong. Then it happened again and took it back to the Ford dealership. They stated they could not find anything wrong and that I just needed new tires. They deliberately lied to me putting me and my employees at risk. Ford knows this is occurring and doesn't care. You can completely lose control of the vehicle at high rates of speed out of the blue.

Began a short time ago and becoming easier to initiate the wobble after bumps, grooved pavement, or a transition from different surfaces at speeds above 55mph. There is much information on this problem but no Recall Notice from Ford. I know I am not the first to describe this complaint.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON HITTING A BUMP WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT OUT OF HIS DRIVING LANE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD INITIALLY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SEYMOUR FORD (2601 SEYMOUR RD, JACKSON, MI 49201) WHERE THEY ADJUSTED THE FRONT SUSPENSION. THE CONTACT THEN STATED THAT WHILE HIS SON WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH, HE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT; HITTING A POST. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, THE CONTACT'S SON WAS NOT INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY FROM THE COLLISION WITH MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT FENDER. THE CONTACT THEN SPOKE TO THE SAME DEALER WHO THEN REFERRED HIM TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED HIM NO ASSISTANCE AND REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE VEHICLE FAILURE TO AN ISSUE KNOWN ONLINE AS "THE DEATH WOBBLE," THE FAILURE HAD PERSISTED AND HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000.

THIS RENDERS THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE AS IT IS NOT SAFE. FORD SAYS THEY BELIEVE A STEERING DAMPENER REPLACEMENT MAY FIX THE ISSUE BUT HAVE NO PARTS IN STOCK, NO OPTION FOR OUTSIDE PARTS, AND NO ETA FOR AVAILABILITY.

DRIVING AT APPROX. 65 MPH MY F-350 4X4'S STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VERY HARD, ENOUGH TO HAVE A DPS STATE TROOPER HEADING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION NOTICE. HE MADE A U-TURN, CAUGHT UP TO ME, PUT ON HIS LIGHTS AND STOPPED ME. WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A TRAFFIC STOP TURNED OUT TO BE A SAFETY CHECK. HE TOLD ME THAT HE STOPPED ME BECAUSE HE HAD NOTICED MY WHEELS WOBBLING AND THOUGHT THAT I WAS IN DANGER OF CRASHING. I HAD TOLD THE OFFICER THAT THE WOBBLING STOPPED ONCE I REDUCED MY SPEED TO ABOUT 40 OR SO. TIRES WERE CLOSE TO NEEDING CHANGING, I REPLACED MY TIRES AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED UNTIL RECENTLY. IT IS STARTING TO WOBBLE NOW AND THEN ONLY AFTER AN ADDITIONAL 15,000 MILES. THIS IS CLEARLY NOT A ONCE IN A MILLION EVENT, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I HAVE HEARD MANY TIMES AMONG OTHER FORD OWNERS TO SHOW THEM WE NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. MASSIVE STEERING WOBBLE AND SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 60 TO 70 MPH. USUALLY ON A ROUGHER HIGHWAY OR A BUMP FOR JOINT EXPANSION. RATTLE CONTINUES TILL SPEED REDUCTION TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR.

TWO ISSUES. FIRST ISSUE, CRACKED RIM. STARTED LOSING TIRE PRESSURE, LEAK BETWEEN RIM AND STAINLESS STEEL VALVE STEM, HAD VALVE STEM REPLACED WITH RUBBER VALVE. LASTED ABOUT A WEEK AND STARTED LOSING AIR PRESSURE AGAIN. USED GREEN SLIME AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. PRESSURE LOSS WAS MINIMAL, 70 PSI DOWN TO 60 PSI OVER A COUPLE OF DAYS, WOULD REINFLATE TO 70 PSI AND WOULD HOLD FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND I WOULD JUST INFLATE BACK TO 70 PSI. DRIVING BACK FROM FL TO NC ON THE 30TH OF DEC 2020, I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF 20 PSI IN ABOUT AN HOURS TIME. PULLED INTO REST AREA, REINFLATED TIRE AND SPRAYED WITH WINDEX AND SAW BUBBLES COMING FROM A CRACK AROUND THE TIRE VALVE AND GOING ABOUT 2 INCHES TOWARD THE INNER EDGE OF RIM. CHANGED TO SPARE, AND MADE IT HOME WITH NO OTHER ISSUES. RIM IS ORIGINAL FACTORY ALUMINUM RIM. DEALERSHIP SAID TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY. PURCHASED AFTERMARKET WHEELS THIS WEEK, DID NOT WANT TO REPLACE WITH SAME MODEL OF RIM. SECOND ISSUE. TRUCK HAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES. NOTICED DEATH WOBBLE WHILE I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH ABOVE MENTIONED TIRE/RIM ISSUE AND FIGURED IT WAS DUE TO THE IMBALANCE OF FRONT TIRE THAT HAD GREEN SLIME IN IT. WOBBLE HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY AFTER HITTING POTHOLE, WAS GOING ABOUT 50-55 MPH, HIT POT HOLE, TRUCK STARTED SHAKING, SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 30 AND SHAKING STOPPED. HAS HAPPENED 2 OTHER TIMES BUT THOSE TIMES I HAD THE OLD TIRE/WHEEL SET UP. THIS LATEST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED WITH DIFFERENT TIRE/WHEEL SETUP. HAVE NOT TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND FIGURED THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

THE VEHICLE PARTS WERE REPLACED BUT NOT REPAIRED AND CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE SAID VEHICLE HIT A BUMP OR BAD SPOT IN THE ROAD. THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT OF VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE EXTREMELY ERRATIC. I IMMEDIATELY HELD ON, LOOKED IN MIRRORS FOR OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME AND HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES. THE TRUCK HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND IMMEDIATELY GET IT OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WE HAPPENED TO BE ON A 65MPH HIGHWAY. WITH HAZARD LIGHTS FLASHING WE DID MANAGE TO GET OFF THE MAIN ROAD TO THE SHOULDER. I NEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT IT WAS. MY WIFE WAS WITH ME AT THE TIME AS WELL. WE HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW. AT 9000 MILES THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THEN AGAIN AT 16,500, 18,900, 24,440 AND THE MOST RECENT TIME IS 27,500. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ADDRESSED 4 PRIOR TIMES. EACH TIME THEY CHANGE THE STEERING DAMPER AND I GET MY VEHICLE BACK. NOW I AM TOLD I NEED NEW TIRES, A CASTER ADJUSTMENT AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER DAMPER. SURPRISE THE DAMPERS ARE ON BACK ORDER.I'M VERY SURPRISED THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. LUCKILY I GUESS PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED YET. THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT. THIS IS MY THIRD NEW TRUCK FROM FORD. I THINK WE HAVE CERTAINLY SPENT OUR FAIR SHARE OF MONEY WITH THEM. FIX OUR TRUCK SO WE CAN FEEL SAFE WHEN WE PULL OUR CAMPER AROUND THE COUNTRY. I WAS DRIVING DURING MODERATE RAIN AND WET ROAD CONDITIONS. MY TRUCK HIT A SEAM IN ROAD AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END STARTED TO SHAKE AND BOUNCE. I HAD TO GET ON THE BRAKE FAST AND THIS WAS EARLY MORNING LOTS OF SEATTLE TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60MPH. THE TRUCK ACTUALLY STARTED A SHIMMY THAT PUT ME IN THE OTHER LANE LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC ON MY LEFT SIDE. IT WENT AWAY WHEN I WAS ON THE BRAKE AND HAD SLOWED WAY DOWN UNDER 35 MPH. WHEN I GOT BACK ON ACCELERATOR, I AGAIN RETURNED TO HIGHWAY SPEED ONLY TO HAVE IT RETURN WORSE AFTER HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THIS TIME THERE WERE MORE VEHICLES AROUND AND I HAD TO HIT BRAKE EXTREMELY HARD SO AS NOT TO BOUNCE EVERYWHERE. THE TRUCK GOT NOTICEABLY LIGHT ON FRONT END BOUNCING ALL OVER THE PLACE AND VEERED OFF ROAD TO THE RIGHT. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT TWICE IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES. TRUCK WAS PARKED AND TAKING TO FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE AND FINDING OUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. TRUCK ONLY HAS 17510 MILES ON IT HAS BEEN IN FOR ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCES. IN FACT TIRES WERE JUST ROTATED AT 17000 MILES.

THEN HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAN BE ACHIEVED ONLY TO EXPECT THE SAME THING TO OCCUR AT ANY RANDOM TIME WHEN GOING OVER A ROUGH AREA IN THE ROAD. REALLY SCARY SITUATION WHEN THIS OCCURS!!!

ONE OF THE TIMES, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IN SNOW AND ICE ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND CROSSED LANES BEFORE SHE COULD GET THE TRUCK UNDER CONTROL. STARTING ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER A USED PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE AT 48,000 MILES AND 3 YEARS OLD, A INTENSE FRONT AXLE OSCILLATION WAS INTERMITTENTLY NOTICED AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45 AND 75MPH, OFTEN THE ISSUE WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT DIRECTLY AFTER DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROADWAY OR BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINTS. AFTER HAVING THE FORD DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THE VEHICLE 4 SEPARATE TIMES TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, THE ISSUE STILL HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED. SO FAR THE FIXES TRIED BY THE DEALER HAVE BEEN BALANCING THE TIRES, INSTALLING NEW STEERING DAMPENER, NEW TIE ROD ENDS, NEW DRAG LINK AND TWO SEPARATE ALIGNMENTS.

I'VE HAD 4-5 INSTANCES OF STEERING OSCILLATION IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS (AKA "DEATH WOBBLE") FROM EITHER DRIVING OVER HIGHWAY EXPANSION JOINTS, POTHOLES, OR JUST FROM TAPPING THE BRAKES AT SPEED. THIS INCLUDES AN INSTANCE ON JULY 2, 2020 WHILE DESCENDING THE WEST SIDE OF WOLF CREEK PASS (HWY 160) WHILE TOWING A 10,000 FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER. I HAD TAPPED THE BRAKES TO FURTHER ENGAGE THE ENGINE BRAKING FUNCTION AND THE FRONT WHEELS BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THE SHAKING WAS TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL (WHICH IS TYPICAL). THE VEHICLE ALSO TRANSMITS OSCILLATION/VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT WHEELS DURING NORMAL DRIVING OVER SMALL BUMPS. THE STEERING IS WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS LOOSE TOO - LOTS OF PLAY AND LACK OF RESPONSIVENESS.

2017 FORD F-350, TRUCK CAN HIT ANY BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE STEERING WHEEL GOES CRAZY SHAKING EXTREMELY VIOLENTLY. THIS HAPPENS AT SPEEDS FROM ABOUT 45MPH AND FASTER. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SHAKING IS TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 25-30MPH. IT'S VERY HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHILE IT'S SHAKING, AS YOU DO NOT HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THE STEERING. A BIG PROBLEM IS THE FACT THAT YOU CAN'T TELL WHICH BUMPS WILL CAUSE THE VIOLENT SHAKING. IT COULD BE A LARGE UNAVOIDABLE POTHOLE, OR IT COULD BE A SMALL CONCRETE JOINT IN AN OTHERWISE VERY SMOOTH FLAT ROAD. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS WHEN THERE WERE NO BUMPS IN THE ROAD. IT IS VERY DISHEARTENING TO KNOW THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS SELLING VEHICLES FOR UPWARDS OF $80,000 THAT CAN'T BE SAFELY DRIVEN ANY FASTER THAN 45-50MPH, AND ARE PUTTING PEOPLES LIVES IN DANGER ON A DAILY BASIS.

I BOUGHT THIS 2017 F350 USED WITH APPROX. 67000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS A 3000 MI 0R 90 DAY WARRANTY. WHEN THIS EVENT OCCURRED I HAD OWNED THIS VEHICLE 3 WEEKS. ON 9-25-20 MY WIFE AND I WENT TO PICK UP A DESK AT A RESIDENCE 20 MILES FROM OUR HOUSE. AFTER LEAVING THE RESIDENCE I ACCELERATED TO HIGHWAY SPEED 50-60 MPH ON A PAVED TWO-LANE HIGHWAY. WE HIT A ROUGH PATCH, RIPPLED SECTION OF PAVEMENT. THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHUTTERING BACK AND FORTH IN MY HANDS AND THE TRUCK STARTING STEERING INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE, I GRIPPED IT AS HARD AS I COULD WITH NO RESULT TO RETURN THE TRUCK BACK TO THE LANE WE WERE IN. I ALSO WAS PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TRYING TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AT THE SAME TIME, BUT WAS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME SLOWING DOWN. AFTER , APPROXIMATELY 200-300 YARDS THE TRUCK SLOWED AND THE STEERING RETURNED, SO I COULD GAIN CONTROL AND RETURNED TO MY LANE OF TRAFFIC.

THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN HE VEHICLE CROSSES OVER UNEVEN OR VERY ROUGH PAVEMENT. USUALLY ON FREEWAYS. TO CORRECT THE SITUATION, THE VEHICLE MUST BE SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS ON A BUSY FREEWAY.

WE FILED A COMPLAINT AND OUR TRUCK WAS FIXED, OR SO WE THOUGHT. THEN IN NOVEMBER 2019, WHILE DRIVING ONLY 45 MPH, THE TRUCK WENT IN TO A DEATH WOBBLE AGAIN WHILE ON A COUNTRY ROAD. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING INTO TOWN, GOING NO FASTER THAN 45 IT HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES. NONE AS DRASTIC AS THE FIRST OR SECOND INSTANCES, BUT WE STILL NEEDED TO SLOW THE TRUCK DOWN IN ORDER TO STOP THE WOBBLE. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND GOT IT FIXED. THE FIRST TIME THE REPLACED THE DAMPER. THE SECOND TIME THEY FIXED THE DAMPER AND ADJUSTER. WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH THE NEW FIX FOR THREE MONTHS NOW. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE LAST MONTH WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP, OR A EVEN JUST A CRACK IN THE ROAD, WHERE THE SUSPENSION STILL DOESNT FEEL RIGHT. WE ARE CONVINCED THAT WE WILL BE BRINGING THE TRUCK BACK INTO SHOP AGAIN IN THE NEXT MONTH OR TWO.

53,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK, ALWAYS HAS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. STARTED WITH A SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END (YOU COULD FEEL IT IN THE GAS PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL). THE "WOBBLE" GOT WORSE. WE WERE TOLD NEEDED NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT. SO WE DID THAT, NOT FIXED. GOT THE RUN AROUND FROM THE FORD DEALER WHO FINALLY TOLD US IT NEEDED A DRAG LINK, STEERING DAMPER AND TRACK BAR. WE PICK IT UP TODAY SO WE WILL SEE IF THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. OF COURSE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTIES OR RECALLS SO IT'S COSTING ME UPWARDS OF $700 WITH NOT ONE BIT OF CONCERN OR HELP FROM FORD. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN EPIDEMIC WITH FORD AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. THIS IS $60,000 + TRUCK THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS KIND OF SAFETY ISSUE AT JUST OVER 50,000 MILES!

WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS I WENT ACROSS AN OVERPASS. COMING OFF THE BRIDGE I WENT OVER THE BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT AND CASED MY PICKUP TO IMMEDIATELY START AN EXTREMELY VIOLENT "DEATH WOBBLE". I HAD TO APPLY BRAKE AND SLOW DOWN TO 35 MPH BEFORE IT WOULD COME OUT OF IT. I HAVE MADE AN APPT WITH THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM NEW HOWEVER THEY WERE EXTREMELY NON-NONCHALANT ABOUT MY PROBLEM. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH IT SEEM THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THE HUNDREDS OF SUPER DUTY OWNERS ARE HAVING WITH NO RECALL YET. I'VE GOTTEN THE VIOLENT SHAKING ON BOTH STRAIGHT ROADS AND CORNERS. I HAVE HAD THE DEATH WOBBLE BETWEEN 14 & 16 TIMES. IT FIRST HAPPENED WHEN MY TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 19,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I HIT AN UNEVEN PIECE OF PAVEMENT WHICH CAUSED MY STEERING WHEEL TO BEGIN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I IMMEDIATELY DECELERATED IN ATTEMPT TO REGAIN CONTROL AND MAINTAIN LANE POSITION. IT IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM. EVERY TIME I SEE A BUMP, POTHOLE, UNEVEN PAVEMENT, ETC, IN MY PATH, I GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL AS TIGHTLY AS POSSIBLE AND BRACE FOR THE WORST. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND SEEMS TO BE A WELL KNOWN AND VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AMONG FORD OWNERS. SOMETHING NEED TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. STICKER PRICE ON MY TRUCK WAS 77,250. THAT'S A STEEP PRICE TAG FOR A TRUCK THAT IS BARELY DRIVEABLE. FURTHERMORE, MY CHILDREN RIDE IN THAT TRUCK. THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE. SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND AS I SLOWED, I FINALLY GAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS WHILE GOING OVER AN OVERPASS AND HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I AM UNSURE WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS HAS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO CROSS THE CENTER LINE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO REDUCE SPEED AND STOP THE OSCILLATION. HAD THERE BEEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC, WE WOULD HAVE HAD A COLLISION. I AM TOLD BY THE LOCAL DEALER THAT FORD IS WORKING ON A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING DAMPENER ALONG WITH OTHER STEERING COMPONENTS SUCH AS THE PITMAN ARM. FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE A MAJOR ISSUE HERE AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS REPORTED THE SO CALLED "DEATH WOBBLE." I HAVE DRIVEN HEAVY DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING SO DANGEROUS AND UNPREDICTABLE AS THIS. THIS IS BY FAR A GREATER DANGER THAN THE TWO RECALLS; ONE FOR THE TAILGATE OPENING, AND ONE FOR THE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER FIRE RISK THAT I HAVE RECEIVED SO FAR. IF THIS ISSUE HAS NOT CAUSED ANY FATALITIES IN THE PAST, I WOULD BE VERY SURPRISED.

I HAD TO GET HARD ON THE BRAKES TO BRING IT BACK UNDER CONTROL. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING. THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER AND CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT. AT 14000 MILES SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN EXCEPT I DIDN'T HAVE A TRAILER IN TOW. DEALERSHIP REPLACED STEERING STABILIZER WITH A NEWER MODEL PART PER FORD RECOMMENDATION. MOST RECENTLY AT 27000 MILES IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE TOWING. DEALERSHIP REPLACE CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS AND TRACK BAR. THE TRUCK STILL FEELS SLOPPY IN THE STEERING AND I HAVE NO TRUST IN IT. I PLAN ON SELLING THE VEHICLE AS I'M ACTUALLY SCARED TO DRIVE IT. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT IN EVERY INSTANCE THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONDITION WITH NO TRAILER ATTACHED.

IN OCT. 2019 I WAS HEADED TO TEXAS FROM MINNESOTA WITH MY 2017 F-350 DIESEL WITH ONLY ABOUT 28,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS PULLING MY 43 FT 5TH WHEEL TRAILER, I HIT A BUMP IN THE HWY WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, I HAD TO APPLY THE BREAKS HARD TO GET IT TO STOP SHAKING AND ALL MOST LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK AND TRAILER. IT WAS A GOOD THING NO ONE WAS NEXT TO ME AS I ENDED UP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO BRING THE TRUCK DOWN TO AROUND 30 MPH BEFORE IT STOPPED SHAKING. THIS HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME WHILE ON MY WAY TO TEXAS AND ONCE AGAIN IT SHOOK VIOLENTLY TILL I GOT IT SLOWED DOWN TO 30 MPH. I PUT THE TRUCK INTO A FORD DEALER IN MINERAL WELL'S, TX AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER. I LEFT TX AND WAS GOING TO AZ, I WAS THERE FOR A FEW MONTHS AND HAD TO RETURN TO MN FOR 1 MONTH BUT LEFT MY 5TH WHEEL TRAILER BEHIND AND JUST DROVE THE TRUCK BACK, THEN ON 1/29/2020 I HEADED BACK TO AZ WITH MY TRUCK AND NOT PULLING ANYTHING. ON MY RETURN TRIP TO AZ I HIT A BUMP ON THE HWY AT 70 MPH AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO ONCE AGAIN SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND HAD TO HIT THE BREAKS AND GET IT SLOWED DOWN TO 30 MPH BEFORE IT STOPPED SHAKING, THERE WAS ONLY ABOUT 6,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK SINCE IT'S REPAIR. NOW I'M BACK IN :AZ ( 1/31/2020) AND I HAVE A APPOINTMENT AT THE FORD DEALER HERE ON 2/13/2020 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN. THIS SHAKING GETS SO BAD THAT I DON'T KNOW IF I WANT TO KEEP THE TRUCK, SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF FORD DOESN'T GET THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED.

I WAS DRIVING ON I-91 LAST WEEK AT 70 MPH. I WENT OVER A ROUGH EXPANSION JOINT AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A FULL BLOWN DEATH WOBBLE. IT CARRIED ON FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHILE I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL 45MPH WHERE THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. DURING THE DEATH WOBBLE THE STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATED VIOLENTLY AND THE TRUCK VIBRATED RAPIDLY. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I DID A WALK ABOUT EXPECTING TO SEE A BLOWN TIRE BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. I DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME AT 55MPH WHERE I HAD NO PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY WHERE THEY SAID THE DRAG LINK AND PASSENGER TIE ROD HAD PLAY AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. I KNEW THE TRUCK WAS UNDER WARRANTY STILL SO I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE THEY SAID THE TIE ROD AND DRAG LINK WAS IN A SAFE OPERATING TOLERANCE AND THE STEERING STABILIZER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER IT IS ON BACK ORDER. THEY THEN SAID ONCE THEY FIXED THE STEERING STABILIZER THEY WOULD THEN CHECK THE TIE ROD AND DRAG LINKS AGAIN AND IF THERE WAS PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL FORD WOULD THEN REPLACE THOSE FREE OF COST. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WITH MY KIDS AND THE CAR. WE ARE GOING ON VACATION AT THE END OF APRIL AND I AM CONCERENED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN EVEN WITH PARTS BEING REPLACED.

PULLED OVER TO INSPECT UNDER FRONT END AND REAR. COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING OUT OF PLACE. GOT BACK ON H.W. AND GOT BACK UP TO 75 AND NO SHAKING. HIT ANOTHER SPOT ON A BRIDGE WHERE PAVEMENT CONNECTS BRIDGE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT THAT I NEEDED NEW TIRES. WHICH I DID. REPLACED WITH FACTORY MICHELINS. THEY ALSO PUT A NEW STEERING DAMPER ON. GOT TRUCK BACK SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND WHILE DRIVING UNDER 60 THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. ABOVE 60 THE STEERING STARTS SHAKING A BIT, BUT NOT LIKE THE DEATH WOBBLE. AT 75 MPH IT IS THE SAME, ALONG WITH WHAT SEEMS TO BE A REAR END VIBRATION. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID A PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULD CALL. HAVEN'T HEARD BACK IN MONTHS. SO, I CALLED AND THEY SAID THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. HAVING TO BORROW A CAR FROM MOTHER IN LAW TO GET AROUND. I PURCHASED A WARRANTY THAT WILL EXPIRE AT 60,000 AND WAS TOLD THAT IF I GO OVER, IT WILL STILL BE UNDER THE ORIGINAL CLAIM AND I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE $75 DEDUCTIBLE. I WILL GET THAT IN WRITING HOPEFULLY THIS WEEK. WITH THESE VIBRATIONS, IT KNOW IT WILL WEAR OUT OTHER FRONT END PARTS LIKE BALL JOINTS AND TIE RODS THAT HOPEFULLY WILL BE REPLACED AT NO COST. DOUBTFUL! THIS IS MY 4TH FORD TRUCK AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH OTHER TRUCKS. I HAVE ONLY 57,000 MILES AND THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND FORD IS RUNNING FROM IT. VERY DISAPPOINTED. THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE BACK AND FORTH UNTIL I SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 10MPH AND THE OSCILLATIONS CEASED. FORD DOES HAVE A TSB OUT ON THE ISSUE BUT THEY ARE ONLY REPLACING THE STEERING DAMPER AND NOT LOOKING INTO THE ROOT CAUSE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE DAMPER HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AS WELL.

WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION GOING STRAIGHT DOWN A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH OR OVER, AND IF A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD IS EXPERIENCED, THE FRONT LEFT TIRE VIBRATES VIOLENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES EXTREMELY SHAKY. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED MY TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON MULTIPLE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, AND ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION ON ONE OCCASION. SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN SEEMS TO CAUSE THE VIBRATIONS TO GO AWAY TEMPORARILY, HOWEVER GOING 40MPH IS NOT A FIX AS THAT IS NOT A SAFE SPEED IN A 70MPH HIGHWAY ZONE. THIS 2017 F350 WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND HAS LESS THAN 28K MILES ON IT. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD AND EXTREMELY SCARED TO HAVE FAMILY IN THE TRUCK IN THE EVENT OF TOTAL FAILURE.

THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND I AM AWAITING ANOTHER STEERING STABILIZER AT THIS MOMENT. THE DEALER HAS BEEN ATTEMPTING TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT DOES NOT APPEAR TO KNOW HOW. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED MANY TRUCKS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE STARTING IN 2017. FORD NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO RECALL AND FIX THESE TRUCKS CORRECTLY FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. AFTER TWO PLUS YEARS AND AROUND 80,000 MILES THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE VIGOROUSLY AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE SHAKING WAS SO BAD THAT YOU COULD HARDLY HANG ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SHAKING WAS TO SLOW DOWN BY AT LEAST 10 MILES PER HOUR. I THEN CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN PLATTEVILLE WISCONSIN AND THEY IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE BY CALLING IT "THE DEATH WOBBLE". THEY ALSO SAID THIS WAS COMMON ON FORD TRUCKS AFTER THIS MANY MILES. THE DEALER SAID THAT FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I HAD THEM REPAIR THE TRUCK AND THE TOTAL COST WAS $2,770.85 WHICH I DID PAY.

THE TRUCK HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT 4 TIMES AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT. IF YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH AND HIT A BUMP THE TRUCK VIOLENTLY SHAKES BACK AND FORTH AND IT REAL HARD TO CONTROL IT. YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AS FAST AS YOU CAN WITH OUT USING THE BRAKES IF YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE THE SHAKING GETS MORE VIOLENT. RETURNING TO CA THE VEHICLE DID IT SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS SENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE FORD TSB 18-2268 WAS PERFORMED. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE FIXED UNTIL RECENTLY ON 01/01/2020, IT RETURNED AT 19.8K MILES. THIS TIME PULLING A 40 FOOT 5TH WHEEL TRAILER AT APPROX 55 MPH ON A CA FREEWAY WHEN THE FRONT BEGAN VIOLENTLY SHAKING AFTER DRIVING OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND MAINTAIN WITHIN A LANE OF TRAVEL WITH THE TRAILER ATTACHED. THE VIOLENT SHAKING ONLY STOPPED AFTER SLOWING TO APPROX 30 MPH.

THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO HAVE THE ISSUE AND I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK IN NOV 2019 WITH 40K MILES AND THEY TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I COMPLAINED AND SAID THE WOBBLE STILL CONTINUES. THEY THEN DECIDED TO DECREASED FRONT WHEEL CASTER ONE DEGREE AND CHARGED ME $600. THEY SAID THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK IS STILL EXPERIENCING WOBBLE AND I FEAR THAT FORD IS NOT ADDRESSING THE URGENCY OF THIS ISSUE. LOADED GOOSENECK TRAILER DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN AT 60 MPH! EVEN WORSE THIS TIME. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID AGAIN THAT IT IS NORMAL AND THEY WILL ORDER AN AFTERMARKET STEERING STABILIZER TO PUT ON IT THIS TIME. THIS IS BSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND INSANELY UNSAFE. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING WE WOULD HAVE WRECKED BOTH TIMES FOR SURE. I DONT KNOW HOW THEY CAN SELL A 90,000$ TRUCK KNOWING IT HAS THIS PROBLEM! AT BEDFORD IN FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TIRES AND NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT AND NEW TIRES. MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 24,000 MILES ON IT. SO THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED AND THEY ARE JUST PUSHING ME AWAY AND BLAMING THE TIRES.

TRUCK IS ONCE AGAIN EXPERIENCING WHAT IS WIDELY KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". TRUCK WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED IN NOV 2018 PER TSB#18-2268. WHEN VEHICLE HITS ROUGH ROAD OR BRIDGE TRANSITION STRIPS ON HIGHWAY THE FRONT END BEGINS TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE SIDE TO SIDE AND UP AND DOWN, CAUSING THIS TO BE TRANSMITTED TO THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS AT THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO QUICKLY SLOW TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. WHEN FORCED TO DO THIS ON A HIGHWAY I'VE NEARLY CAUSED ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE REQUIRED QUICK DECELERATION. THIS IS A WIDELY REPORTED PROBLEM THAT FORD WANTS TO BLAME ON THE VEHICLE OWNER, SAYING THAT IT IS THE RESULT OF IMPROPER OWNER CARE OR NOT HAVING ENOUGH WEIGHT IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK!! OWNERS ARE DUMBFOUNDED THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED ON THE FORD SUPER DUTY TRUCKS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FAULT THAT IS GOING TO EVENTUALLY RESULT IN TRAGIC ACCIDENTS IF IT HASN'T HAPPENED ALREADY. DRIVING TRUCK ON INTERSTATE EXPERIENCED FOUR EVENTS WHERE ENTIRE TRUCK SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THIS CAUSED THINGS IN CAB SUCH AS CELL PHONES COFFEE CUPS WATER BOTTLES TO FALL INTO THE FOOT WELL. EACH TIME MY FIRST REACTION WAS TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO LOWER SPEED AT WHICH TIME I ESTIMATE THE VIOLENT SHAKING STOPPED AROUND 35 MPH. I TOOK TRUCK TO THE DEALER AFTER EACH EVENT WHERE THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER TWICE BUT THIS HAS NOT CORRECTED THE ISSUE. THIS WAS RECOMMENDED WITHIN A SERVICE BULLETIN #18-2268. THESE FOUR EVENTS EXPOSED ME TO BEING REAR ENDED SINCE THE BRAKING REQUIRED TO STOP THE VIOLENT SHAKING IS RANDOM TO THE VEHICLES CRUISING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC ADJACENT AND BEHIND ME. DURING THE MOST RECENT EVENT (11/17/2019) TRAVELING IN STRAIGHT LINE THE TRUCK DRIFTED HALF WAY INTO THE LANE TO THE LEFT. WHAT IS OCCURRING IS THAT YOU CAN BE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH WITH CLEAR WEATHER AND TRAFFIC AND WHEN YOU HIT A PAVEMENT JOINT, IT SETS OFF THIS EXTREME VIOLENT UNCONTROLLED HARMONIC VIBRATION EVENT THAT INSTINCTIVELY YOU BRAKE HARD TO GET OUT OF THE CYCLE. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLES BEHIND WHERE ALSO ABLE TO REDUCE THEIR SPEED IN TIME FROM 70 MPH TO AROUND 35 MPH FOR AN EVENT THEY HAVE NO ABILITY TO PREDICT. THIS CONDITION HAS MADE ME AND MY FAMILY VERY APPREHENSIVE ABOUT DRIVING THE VEHICLE. HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AT 50MPH +, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY MAKING THE VEHICLE IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND SLOW WAY DOWN TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. THIS NEARLY CAUSED THE CAR BEHIND ME TO REAR END ME ON ONE OCCASION. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. I HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED THIS UNLOADED WITH NO TRAILER ON STRAIGHT ROADS, THUS FAR. THE VEHICLE IS RIGHT AT 19,000 MILES, STILL UNDER WARRANTY. IT SHOULD NOT BEHAVE THIS WAY. EVEN WHEN THE WOBBLE DOESN'T HAPPEN, THE VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES JUMP TO ONE SIDE OR ANOTHER GOING OVER ANGLED JOINTS IN THE ROAD. IF YOU ARE NOT PAYING EXTREME ATTENTION, YOU WILL BE IN THE MEDIAN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. IT SIMPLY ISN'T VERY SAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT A HIGH PAYLOAD. THE WOBBLE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AT THE SAME BRIDGE JOINT GOING IN TWO DIRECTIONS. NOT REALLY CITY STREET OR HIGHWAYS, BUT I SUPPOSED DIVIDED HIGHWAY IS THE BEST DESCRIPTION . I JUST REPLACED STOCK/ORIGINAL TIRES, HOPING THOSE HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.

I STARTED TO HEAR A CLUNKING IN THE FRONT END OF MY 2017 F350 WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS (LOW SPEED AND HIGH SPEED). I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THE SAID I HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY IN MY TIE ROD ENDS, SO THEY REPLACED THEM ALONG WITH A LOWER CONTROL ARM. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, I STARTED HEARING THE NOISE AGAIN AND WHEN I WOULD GO OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, EVEN AT LOW SPEED, THE TRUCK WOULD WANT TO WANDER. I TOOK IT IN A SECOND TIME AND THEY FOUND THE ANTI SWAY BAR HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY, SO THEY REPLACED THAT. I ASKED WHY A NEW 1 TON TRUCK WOULD ALREADY NEED FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS REPLACED AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW. THE TRUCK DID DRIVE BETTER FOR AWHILE, BUT SHORTLY AFTER I STARTED HEARING THE NOISE AGAIN. I HAD TO GET THE OIL CHANGE, SO I ASKED THEM TO CHECK ON IT WHILE IT WAS IN THERE. THEY SAID THEY DID THE OIL CHANGE BUT COULDN'T CHECK THE NOISE COMPLAINT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME. THEY DID HOWEVER DO ANOTHER 42 POINT INSPECTION AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK. I BROUGHT IT IN ABOUT A WEEK LATER BECAUSE THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT THE TECH SAID IT COULD BE COMING FROM THE REAR LEAF PACK BECAUSE, "SOMETIMES THE TRUCKS COME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS LUBRICATED AND THEY AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE", SO HE SPRAYED DEGREASER ON THEM AND THEY COULDN'T HEAR ANY NOISE ANYMORE. I ASKED WHY THE FACTORY WOULD DO THAT, AND AGAIN, THEY HAD NO ANSWER. I DROVE IT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER (AROUND THE CORNER) AND OF COURSE IT DIDN'T MAKE THE NOISE. I TOOK IT HOME HOPING THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED, BUT I SOON REALIZED THAT THE TRUCK STILL MAKES THE CLUNKING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, EVEN BACKING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IT STILL WANDERS, EVEN PULLING INTO ONE DIRECTION WHEN I GO OVER BUMPS/TRANSITIONS ON THE ROAD/HIGHWAY AT LOW AND HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT TO FORD AND WILL BE CONTACTING A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY.

AT THIS SPEED THE VEHICLE BECOMES BARELY GUIDEABLE TO THE POINT THAT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THE VEHICLE STOP THE EVENT IS TO SLOW DOWN. MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THAT IT WILL CONTINUE DOWN TO SPEEDS OF 35-40 BEFORE IT GOES AWAY. I STRONGLY FEEL AS THOUGH THIS EVENT, IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN AT THE WRONG TIME WILL COST A LIFE. IT DOES NOT TAKE A HUGE POT HOLE TO SET IT OFF, IT IS TYPICALLY A SMALLER IRREGULAR BUMP THAT WILL GET IT GOING. UNDER WARRANTY I HAVE HAD THE STEERING DAMPER REPLACED AS WELL AS BOTH FRONT SHOCKS AND NOTHING SO FAR HAS TOUCHED THE ISSUE.

ON THE THIRD OCCASION, ANOTHER ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED AND THE CASTER WAS REDUCED AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE SAME DEALER CALLED THE CONTACT'S SON AFTER THE THIRD REPAIR TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIND A REMEDY FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER A FOURTH TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL OR REMEDY FOR THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE LONGEST LASTED APPROX. 0.75 OF A MILE AS THE TRUCK WAS IN LEFT LANE AND NEEDED TO CROSS 5 LANES OF URBAN TRAFFIC TO GET TO RIGHT SIDE BREAK DOWN LANE. EACH TIME THE VIOLENT SHAKING ENDED WHEN BRAKING TO 37 TO 35 MPH. SEEMS TO OCCUR IF THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL HITS THE BUMP FIRST. THE SECOND AND THIRD EVENTS WERE SIMILAR TO THE FIRST. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN MAY 2019. WHEN WE'RE ON A HIGHWAY NEXT TO A RIVER TRAVELING ABOUT 60 MILES AN HOUR AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE TRUCK START TO VIBRATING VIOLENTLY (ALSO KNOWN AS DEATH WOBBLE).THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO CONTROL IT. MEAN WHILE MY 4 YEAR OLD SON WAS SO TERRIFIED HE COULD STOP ASKING MY WIFE IF WE WERE GOING TO DIE. WE WERE SO HELPLESS AND WE ALL FEARED FOR OUR LIFE LIVES. THAT'S TRULY THE WORST MOMENT OF MY LIFE. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT HAPPEN AND TOLD THEM NO IS NO WAY WE WERE GETTING BACK IN THAT TRUCK AND ASKED THEM TO BUY BACK. FORD DENIED OUR REQUEST AND ASSURE THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AFTER WAITING ABOUT HALF MONTH FOR THEM TO FIX IT AND AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. AND IN ORDER FOR THEM TO CONSIDER IT, WE MOST EXPERIENCES THE TRAGEDY REPEATEDLY. WITHOUT ANY OTHER OPTION, I DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR OVER A MONTH ON MY OWN TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SAFE BEFORE I ALLOW MY FAMILY BACK IN THE TRUCK AND FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS EVERYTHING SEEM FINE. UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN WE WERE ON OUR WAY TO THE AIRPORT AND THE DEATH WOBBLE CAME BACK. AGAIN, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM SERVICE. AFTER WHAT HAPPENED, I CAN SEE WHERE THE DEATH WOBBLE TERM CAME FROM. IT WAS TRULY A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION AND FORD DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THAT. I THINK WE'VE GIVING THEM PLENTY OF ATTEMPTS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND I FEEL IT TIME TO REACH OUT FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.WE CURRENTLY LIVE IN ALASKA. HOWEVER WE HAVE JUST SOLD EVERYTHING AND READY TO MOVE OUT OF STATE IN ABOUT FOUR DAYS. BUT AT THIS POINT WE DO NOT HAVE A VEHICLE AND OUR HOUSE WILL BE SOLD SOON. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD IS NOT ALERT WITH THIS DEADLY SITUATION. WE ARE VERY DESPERATE AND ANY HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECAITED.

2017 FORD F-350 SUPERDUTY TRUCK EXPERIENCED SEVERE STEERING/SUSPENSION WOBBLE WHEN ENCOUNTERING BUMPS IN ROADWAY. FOUR INCIDENTS OCCURRED, WITH THREE OCCURRING IN THE SEPT. 18-26, TIMEFRAME IN 2019.WHILE TRAVELING AT 65 TO 70 MPH. VEHICLE WAS HARD TO CONTROL DURING THE WOBBLE, AND REQUIRED SLOWING TO 20-25MPH TO STOP THE SHAKING. OTHER VEHICLES FOLLOWING ME AT THE LISTED SPEEDS WERE REQUIRED TO BRAKE QUICKLY TO AVOID COLLISION WITH MY VEHICLE. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS APPROX. 17000 MILES AT THE TIME.

I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN I CROSSED A SET OF RAIL ROAD TRACKS AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY ENOUGH TO CAUSE ME TO ENTER LEFT DITCH. AFTER APPLYING THE BREAKS AND SLOWING TO 15 MPH I REGAINED CONTROL. I GOT OUT AND CHECK THE TIRES AND ALL SEEMED FINE. STARTED TO SLOWLY DRIVE AND IT WAS FINE. A FEW MILES LATER I BEGAN TO SMELL DIESEL FUEL. WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION THE SMELL WAS VERY STRONG. OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND STEAMING FROM THE INTER COOLER. DRIVE IT TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AS THE SHAKING HAD CAUSED IT TO CRACK.

I OWN A 2017 F-350 SUPER DUTY WITH 28,000 MILES. EXPERIENCING "DEATH WOBBLE" MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK, TYPICALLY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50-70 MPH AND HITTING EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BUMP OR UNEVEN-NESS IN THE ROAD. THE SHAKING IN THE FRONT END IS SO VIOLENT THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT CONTROLLABLE AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO THE POINT THAT MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE IT. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN CONTROL IS BY SLOWING DOWN TO APPROX 30-40 MPH UNTIL THE SHAKING SUBSIDES. YESTERDAY, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE WOBBLE STARTED AND PULLED ME INTO THE NEXT LANE, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. SLOWING DOWN IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL CAUSED ANOTHER NEAR MISS AS CARS WERE HAVING TO SWERVE TO AVOID ME AS I TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL FROM THE WOBBLE. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE AND IT IS PRACTICALLY NEW WITH VERY LOW MILES - THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AND IN DOING RESEARCH ITS APPEARS THIS IS A VERY PREVALENT ISSUE WITH THESE TRUCKS AND FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND IS NOT DOING MUCH TO ADDRESS IT. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND I NEED IT TO BE SAFE AND THIS DEFECT DOES NOT ALLOW THAT. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS TO THIS VEHICLE - IT IS 100% FACTORY STOCK.

THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES MILES ON THE VEHICLE WAS BETWEEN 27,000 AND 30,000. FORD DEALER DESCRIBED THIS AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE", LITERALLY. WAS FIXED BY REPLACING STEERING DAMPER. THIS EVENT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY DANGEROUS.

VEHICLE NOW HAS 20,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS AGAIN STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY AS STATED BEFORE. FORDS FIX IS TO REPLACE IT AGAIN WITH THE SAME PART THAT HAS ALREADY FAILED TWICE. I HAVE HEARD OF THE SAME ISSUES FROM OTHER PEOPLE IS SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS.

THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ENGINEERING DEFECT BECAUSE I SEE ONLINE THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGINS SHAKING VIOLENTLY CAUSING YOU TO FIGHT KEEPING THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MPH IN ORDER TO GET IT TO STOP, WHICH IS QUITE DANGEROUS WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS 20,400. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DTHAT THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING CLOSELY WITH ENGINEERS AT FORD HQ IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE MADE THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATIONS TO MY VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS IN CORRECTING THE ISSUE: ADJUSTING THE CAMBER ON EVERY VISIT, ADDED 2 DIFFERENT SIZE OF SHIMS,REPLACED BOTH STEERING DAMPERS, AND MOST RECENTLY ADD A 1 1/2" LEVELING KIT. UNFORTUNATELY THE ISSUE STILL IS NOT RESOLVED, THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IMPACTING MY ABILITY TO USE THE VEHICLE FOR THE PURPOSE IT WAS PURCHASED FOR.

THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS IN THE NUMBER TWO LANE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEED IN BUSY TRAFFIC. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN BELOW 30 MILES AN HOUR TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD SUPERDUTY 4X4 TRUCKS. IT'S THE SECOND TIME I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. FIRST TIME, FORD REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPENER. NOW THEY ARE CHANGING TIE-ROD ENDS. NTSB REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND FORCE FORD TO STOP NICKEL DIMING REPAIRS AND FIX THIS PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL.

AFTER THE FIRST THREE INCIDENTS I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THE DEATH WOBBLE THREAD ON THE INTERNET. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A DRAG LINK AND BALL JOINT. THE VEHICLE DROVE MOSTLY NORMAL FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS WITH ONLY OCCASIONAL FRONT STEERING VIBRATION AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THEN ON JUNE 10, 2019 I RAN OVER AN EXPANSION JOINT IN A BRIDGE ON A CORNER GOING 45-50 MPH AND THE STEERING WHEEL AND ENTIRE TRUCK VIBRATED TO THE POINT OF LOSING CONTROL AND GOING OFF ROAD NEARLY INTO THE DITCH BEFORE I GOT THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. THE VIBRATION AND OSCILLATION WAS EXTREMELY SEVERE WITH EVERYONE IN VEHICLE BEING TOSSED ABOUT VIOLENTLY. I IMMEDIATELY MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND DEALERSHIP STATED THEY KNEW OF PROBLEM AND REFERENCED TSB 18-2268. THEY SHIMMED THE SUSPENSION, ADJUSTED THE CASTOR, AND REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPENER TO THE TUNE OF $624. I TALKED TO THREE DIFFERENT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES AND GOT NOTHING BUT A RUN-AROUND. AFTER TRUCK WAS REPAIRED, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT FORD WOULD PAY $335 FOR REPAIRS SINCE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND WAS NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME. WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THE VIOLENT NATURE OF THE VIBRATION AND LOSS OF CONTROL. KENDALL FORD IN KENAI WAS VERY ACCOMMODATING AND HELPFUL IN GETTING MY PROBLEM SOLVED BUT FORD NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND GET THESE VEHICLES REPAIRED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING NOW WITH THIS VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS 45,332 MILES.

THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO HARD THAT I HAD TO GRASP IT WITH BOTH HANDS AND A VERY TIGHT GRIP SIMPLY TO KEEP THE TRUCK IN MY LANE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER AND MADE A VISUAL INSPECTION OF ALL FOUR TIRES. NOTHING SEEMED WRONG. I PULLED BACK ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND CONTINUED AT 60 MPH UNTIL THE NEXT EXIT. ONCE I GOT HOME I WAS ABLE TO SEARCH FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM HAD A NAME, THE "DEATH WOBBLE" GIVEN TO IT BY OTHER OWNERS THAT HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME. I CALLED MY DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS AN ACTIVE SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE PROBLEM.

THE TRUCK IS COMPLETELY STOCK WITH ALL ORIGINAL COMPONENTS AND TIRES. FORD IS UNWILLING TO MAKE ANY MORE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE. I HAVE DONE QUITE A BIT OF RESEARCH ON LINE AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2017 AND NEWER F 250 / 350 SERIES TRUCKS. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME WAS ON TUESDAY, APRIL 16, 2019 AND I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER- NORTHSIDE FORD IN SAN ANTONIO, TX.

THE TRUCK THAT HAS 26000 MILES ON IT HAD NO PAYLOAD SHOOK SO HARD THAT MY WIFE WAS UNABLE TO HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO GET IT STOPPED WHILE TRYING TO STAY IN HER LANE AND ON THE ROAD.

ON NOV. 7 AND NOV. 24, 2018 WHILE DRIVING MY 2017 F350 SUPER DUTY DIESEL TRUCK I CROSSED FREEWAY BRIDGE TRANSITION STRIPS AT 70MPH, AT WHICH TIME THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK WENT INTO WHAT IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO BY OWNERS AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE UP, DOWN AND SIDEWAYS. THESE VIOLENT VIBRATIONS WERE OBVIOUSLY FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH ALSO BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE, NEARLY TAKING THE WHEEL OUT OF MY HANDS WHEN THE EVENT FIRST STARTED. THE VIBRATION DID NOT STOP UNTIL I WAS OFF ON THE BERM AND REDUCED SPEED TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THESE OCCURRENCES OBVIOUSLY CAUSED NOT ONLY A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME, BUT FOR EVERY VEHICLE BEHIND OR BESIDE ME AT THE TIME. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE PROBLEM IS TO IMMEDIATELY REDUCE SPEED, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70 MPH, EVEN MORE SO IF TOWING A TRAILER OR CAMPER. THIS ISSUE CAN VERY EASILY CAUSE VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE TO LOSE CONTROL RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM IS WIDELY KNOWN, GOING BACK YEARS, AND OWNERS HAVE SAID TSB 18-2268 DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, AND OWNER'S ONLINE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE NHTSA ALLOWS THIS PROBLEM TO PERSIST.

ON 7/22/18, MY 2017 F350 (CREW CAB, LONG BED, DIESEL) EXPERIENCED WHAT IS APPARENTLY BEING CALLED "DEATH WOBBLE" 4 TIMES WITHIN 20 MINUTES, WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE I-15 NORTH OF SALT LAKE CITY, UT. THE TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 27,800 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. IN FIRST INSTANCE, MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 65 MPH, AND IN THE FOLLOWING 3, IT WAS BETWEEN 50-60 MPH. THE SECTION OF HIGHWAY WAS BUMPY IN ALL CASES. THE SYMPTOMS WERE EXTREME AND VIOLENT VIBRATION COUPLED WITH VIRTUALLY UNCONTROLLABLE STEERING, WITH THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF TRUCK (AND STEERING WHEEL) SHAKING VIOLENTLY, PRACTICALLY BOUNCING UP AND DOWN. BRAKING DID NOT STOP THE SHAKING, AND SEEMED TO MAKE IT WORSE. IT WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I HAD COASTED AND VERY CAREFULLY APPLIED BRAKES UNTIL I GOT BELOW 20 MPH. FORTUNATELY, THE ROAD WAS STRAIGHT IN ALL 4 OCCURRENCES, OR I FEEL I WOULD HAVE GONE OFF THE ROAD. UPON EXITING INTERSTATE AND INSPECTING FRONT END, I NOTED THAT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" HAD ACTUALLY TORN SMALL CHUNKS OUT OF MY FRONT TIRES (OEM GOODYEAR WRANGLER AT, LT275/70R18E), ALONG WITH OTHER CRACKS AND DIVOTS; THERE WAS NO SUCH DAMAGE TO THE REAR TIRES. I DID NOT DRIVE IT OVER 40 MPH AFTER THAT, UNTIL I HAD TAKEN IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER TO BE INSPECTED THE NEXT DAY. THEY SAID IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT, AND REPLACED THE TIRES, AND SINCE THEN IT HAS NOT REOCCURRED. THIS HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED ABOUT 3 TIMES PRIOR TO THIS, OVER THE SPAN OF 3 MONTHS, WITH WEEKS BETWEEN, UNDER SIMILAR DRIVING CONDITIONS, BUT I INCORRECTLY ASSUMED IT WAS JUST DUE TO COMBINATION OF STIFF SUSPENSION AND ROUGH ROAD. I OWN AND TOW AN RV, AND IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED WHILE TOWING, REGARDLESS OF SPEED (I NEVER EXCEED 65 MPH WHEN TOWING.) WHEN THE DEALER SERVICED THE TRUCK, THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT, BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY DROVE IT OVER 45 MPH IN TEST DRIVING.

SECOND EVENT WAS TOWING MY 5TH WHEEL DOWN A 6% GRADE INTO VERDE VALLEY ARIZONA. HEAVY BRAKING CAUSED THE SAME DEATH WOBBLE IN ADDITION TO THE TRUCK PULLING TO THE RIGHT. SPEED WAS 65 MPH. THIRD EVENT WAS LEAVING MCCARREN AIRPORT IN LAS VEGAS NEVADA WHERE HITTING A FREEWAY BRIDGE TRANSITION CAUSED THE DEATH WOBBLE AGAIN. TRUCK HAS BEEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. ALIGNMENT CHECKED OK, TRACKING BAR TORQUE OK, WHEELS OK, BALL JOINTS OK. BRAKE HOSE DID NOT PASS PRESSURE TEST AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP CANNOT FIND CAUSE. I SINCERELY BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN ISSUE OR OEM PARTS INSTALLED AT FACTORY WERE DEFECTIVE AT TIME OF INSTALLATION. THIS IS MY FOURTH SUPERDUTY 4X4 SUPERCREW. MY OTHER THREE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE. DEATH WOBBLE, YOU HIT A SMALL BUMP OR UNEVEN ROAD AT 20-75 MPH AND IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO 15MPH TO MAKE IT QUIT. I OWN A 2017 FORD F-350. THIS TRUCK IS FULLY STOCK, NO MODS OF ANY KIND. NO ABUSE. MAINTENANCE IS ALWAYS ON TIME AND TIRES ARE ALWAYS ROTATED AND BALANCED EVERY 5000 MILES. IN MAY 2018, I WAS DRIVING ALONG A STRAIGHT MODERATELY BUMPY ROAD AT ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR AND MY TRUCK WENT INTO THE DEATH RATTLE. THE FRONT END SHOOK SO HARD I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. I HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET THE SHAKING TO STOP. THE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES. IT HASN'T HAPPENED AGAIN UNTIL YESTERDAY, 10/10/18. I WAS TRAVELING ON A NEWLY PAVED ROAD AT 30 MPH. I HIT A SLIGHT BUMP AND THE TRUCK WENT INTO THE DEATH RATTLE AGAIN. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 5 MPH TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD ABOUT 3 MILES TIL I GOT HOME. I CRAWLED AT ABOUT 15 MPH WITH NO PROBLEMS. I STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN ABOUT 60 FEET FROM MY HOME, STARTED TO TAKE OFF AT AN EXTREME CRAWL AND IT STARTED SHAKING AGAIN. THE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,036. I HAVE CHILDREN AND THIS IS DANGEROUS! MY KIDS ARE ALWAYS WITH ME AND I CAN'T RISK THEIR LIVES BECAUSE FORD HASN'T COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE FORD FIX THIS. VEHICLE HAS 5800 MILES, 4X4, CREW CAB, LONG BED ALL STOCK AS FROM FACTORY. NOT DRIVEN OFF ROAD. VEHICLE HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO "DEATH WOBBLE". PROBLEM INCREASED FROM A SLIGHT VIBRATION TO AN ISSUE THAT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM OCCURS ABOVE 50 MPH. IF A DIP OR SERIES OF "WASHBOARD" BUMPS ARE ENCOUNTERED THE STEERING BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE AND WILL FORCE THE VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER LANE OR OFF THE ROAD. FORD DEALERSHIP (HASTINGS FORD) HAS INSPECTED VEHICLE AND AWAITING A RESPONSE AS TO WHAT THE "FIX" SHALL BE. IT IS VERY APPARENT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD FOR MANY YEARS YET THE TSB FROM FORD ADDRESSES TIRE INFLATION AS THE CULPRIT. BELIEVE FORD HAS MISSED THE ACTUAL SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

AT 60 MPH SOME TIMES WITH A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD THE FRONT END WILL START TO SHAKE LIKE CRAZY AND IT IS UNCONTROLLABLE. IT ONLY STOPS AFTER SLOWING TO ABOUT 30 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES THIS YEAR. THE DEALER SHIP HAS WORKED ON THE TRUCK TWICE WITH NO SUCCESS. THE TRUCK HAS 20,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS AS THE TRUCK FRONT END IS OUT OF CONTROL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. YESTERDAY WAS THE WORST. IT HAPPENED TWICE IN A 3 MILE STRETCH OF ROAD.

"2017 SUPERDUTY DEATH WOBBLE" THURSDAY, JUNE 7TH 2018 WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (55 MPH) AND GOING OVER VERY MILD BUMPS IN THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY WHILE THE WHOLE VEHICLE SHUTTERED ENOUGH TO OPEN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND EMPTY ITS CONTENTS ALONG WITH EVERYTHING IN THE CENTER CONSOLE. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE TO KEEP IT IN MY LANE AND I LEFT THE ROAD FOR THE DITCH. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE ANTILOCK WAS ACTIVATED AND DID EVENTUALLY COME TO A STOP. TWO WITNESSES STOPPED TO MAKE SURE I WAS OK AND SAID IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE FRONT END WAS COMING OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE NEXT EXIT (ABOUT 5 MILES) AND THIS ISSUE REPEATED THREE MORE TIMES AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED 80 MILES AND A REPAIR WAS PERFORMED TO THE STABILIZER SHOCK THAT TOOK A FULL WEEK. IT IS NOW 7/29/2018 AND THE VEHICLE IS SHOWING SIGNS OF THE SHAKE AGAIN BUT MILD IN NATURE. I HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE ON OLDER VEHICLES BUT NEVER ON A NEW VEHICLE WITH UNDER 30,000 MILES ON IT. THIS ISSUE WILL KILL SOMEONE SOMEDAY.

ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING APPROX 60MPH, I DROVE OVER A BUMP AND THE STEERING WHEEL/FRONT END EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING, COMMONLY CALLED A 'DEATH WOBBLE.' PROBLEM CONTINUED UNTIL I SLOWED THE TRUCK TO 10 MPH. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 17,000 MILES. AFTER THE 3RD TIME THE DEALER REPLACED STEERING COMPONENTS. AFTER THE REPAIR THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO HAVE MINOR PROBLEMS (QUICK SHORT WOBBLE) BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT WAS PART OF THE REPAIR. ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND THE FULL WOBBLE RETURNED. I DROPPED THE TRUCK OFF AT DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS TOO UNSAFE TO DRIVE ( I HAVE TEENAGERS AND REFUSE TO RISK THEIR LIVES). I ATTEMPTED TO RETURN THE TRUCK TO FORD UNDER THE STATE LEMON LAW. FORD REFUSES TO TAKE BACK THE TRUCK BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE IT IS FIXED OR SAFE.

THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.

IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR.THE TRUCK HIT AN UNEVEN CONDITION ON THE ROAD.THE TRUCKS STEERING CAPABILITY WAS TOTALLY LOST.THE FRONT WHEELS WERE VIOLENTLY SHAKING.THE TIRES AND WHEELS WERE SERVERLY BOUNCING.SLIGHT BRAKING MADE THE UNCONTROLLABLE CONDITION WORSE.THE VEHICLE SLOWLY LEFT THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE RIGHT AWAY.THE SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN IT LEFT THE PAVED HIGHWAY.THE FRONT WHEELS WERE STILL VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND BOUNCING.AT THIS POINT STILL WITH NO STEERING THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL.IT FINALLY ENDED UP STUCK IN A DITCH 30 TO 40 YARDS OFF THE HIGHWAY.THE SHAKING AND BOUNCING DIDN'T STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP.AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I LEANED THAT THIS MECHANICAL STEERING PROBLEM HAS BEEN A REACURING MALFUNCTION.IT HAS BEEN NAMED THE DEATH WOBBLE.HOW CAN FORD CONTINUE TO MANUFACTURE A PRODUCT WITH DOCUMENTED EXTREME SAFETY ISSUES.ITS OBVIOUS THAT FORD HAS MADE THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION AN ONGOING PROCESS.IM AMAZAZED THAT WITH ALL THE PAST COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE DEATH WOBBLE THAT ITS BECOME NOTHING MORE THAN A BAND-AID FIX.PLEASE ADDRESS AND CORRECT THIS ONGOING NEGLIGENT MANUFACTURING PROCESS THAT FORD CONTINUES.THEY KNOWINGLY CONTINUE TO PLACE INNOCENT CONSUMERS INTO A LIFE OR POSSIBLE DEATH SITUATION.

WHEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 50MPH, TRUCK WILL RANDOMLY RESPOND TO GOING OVER A SLIGHT BUMP BY BEGINNING TO SHAKE. THE SHAKING INCREASES TO A VIOLENT LEVEL. THE ENTIRE TRUCK SHAKES VIOLENTLY, ESPECIALLY THE FRONT END AND THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK IS TO COME TO A NEARLY COMPLETE STOP. ALL THREE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED THE TRUCK WAS ON A HIGHWAY. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED THE TRUCK WAS ON A BRIDGE CROSSING A RIVER WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC ALL AROUND. IT IS A COMPLETE MIRACLE THAT THE SURROUNDING DRIVERS WERE ABLE TO AVOID HITTING OUR TRUCK SINCE THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 65MPH, AND WE HAD TO SLOW TO 22MPH BEFORE THE SHAKING STOPPED. THIS FIRST HAPPENED IN OCT 2017. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT, BUT IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON FEB 12, 2018. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 24700 MILES ON IT.

TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED THE TRACK BAR, SENT BACK, AND A WEEK LATER THE SAME ISSUE OF THE "DEATH WOBBLE" HAPPENED AGAIN. TRUCK IS AT THE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY, AND HAS BEEN FOR A WEEK. THE SAME EXACT INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED ON ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER'S NEWLY PURCHASED 2017 FORD F350 ALSO AND HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP.
