The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the repair could not be covered under an unknown special program or recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the safety failure. I am reporting a serious mechanical and safety issue involving my 2011 Ford Fiesta. After receiving a partially state-funded engine replacement in June 2025, my vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems shortly after. Within a month, it went into limp mode multiple times, and warning lights appeared: the wrench light, incline warning, and “Transmission Malfunction – Service Now” messages. A diagnostic scan revealed multiple DTCs related to the Transmission Control Module (TCM), Input/Output Shaft Speed Sensors, and Clutch A disengagement (P286F) — which I understand are linked to known issues with this model’s transmission. These failures make the car dangerous to drive. The vehicle has lost power unexpectedly, putting me at risk of an accident. I’ve also been told by the repair shop that I may now need a new transmission and/or TCM, despite just receiving a major engine repair. I am unable to afford another large repair and this situation has severely impacted my ability to travel safely. I am requesting an investigation into the Ford Fiesta’s transmission problems and to confirm whether this should have been covered by a recall or warranty extension. I want to also add that my transmission clutch was repaired by Ford only 2 years ago. Please advise if this falls under known manufacturer defects or safety bulletins, and whether Ford Motor Company can be held responsible for the faulty transmission and associated safety risks.

The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed; however, the contact was unaware of the diagnostic result. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same mechanic who again diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the throttle body, engine electrical harness, and engine mounts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred, and the vehicle stalled with white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. The contact had not taken the vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond and sputtered. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle the following day, the vehicle failed to start and was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic related the failure to the transmission. The contact was referred to the dealer for an unknown recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for the TCM to be replaced under Ford Campaign Number: 14M02. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the TCM was replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the TCM could not be programmed to the transmission clutch. The dealer determined that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

The car hasn’t been sold since 2021 and I was told there where no issues with the car but it was sold as is it doesn’t start needs a new modem head gaskets maybe and it’s a lot that needs repairing
On 4 Nov 22 the engine started shifting abruptly when accelerating - automatic transmission. Vehicle would not reverse while in R on the handle. Check engine light icon appears on dash panel. Unable to go beyond low speeds on road, causing safety hazard.
In 2019 the Ford Fiesta refused to crank, key in the ignition the cars dash would light up, but the only sound produced was a small tick. After several unsuccessful visits to the mechanic, we finally took it to the Ford dealership and it was discovered that the TCM needed to be reprogrammed or replaced, after getting it replaced, for no charge, we no longer experienced the cranking issue. Apparently, the Ford dealership was aware of the recall but this information was left out upon purchase from CarMax. This information was not listed on this site either. I'm reporting this issue so that the next owner of the vehicle won't be surprised and devastated like we were.

MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE DRIVING A BOAT. IT WAS SHUDDERING AND DRIVING ROUGHLY. MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A RECALL THAT I BELIEVE REPROGRAMMED THE TCM, 14M02TSB 16-0129 WAS DONE YESTERDAY. ALTHOUGH I CAN FEEL SOME IMPROVEMENT IN THE 35 MI DRIVE HOME, IT STILL SHUDDERS AND FEELS THE SAME. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY BOYFRIEND RESEARCHED THROUGH VARIOUS SERVICE BULLETINS AND FOUND 14M01. HE THEN JACKED UP THE CAR, REMOVED THE TIRE TO GET A BETTER LOOK AND SAW THE LEAK. IT DOES NOT LEAK ENOUGH TO LEAVE NOTICEABLE MARKS ON DRIVEWAY BUT IS LEAKING. WHEN I CALLED, I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER COVERED AS I AM JUST OUTSIDE OF THIS WARRANTY SINCE I HAVE SLIGHTLY OVER 127797 MILES AND THIS ENDED AT 100,000 OR 10 YEARS. MY CAR IS A 2011. IF I HAD BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED DURING THAT TIME. SINCE THERE WAS NO CODE OR WARNING AND NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF THE LEAKAGE, I WAS UNAWARE. THE DEALER WHO REPROGRAMMED THE TCM WAS UNAWARE, THERE ARE NO CODES RELATING TO THIS ISSUE ON THE CAR. THEY ONLY CODE I NOW HAVE IS AN OXYGEN SENSOR OR SOMETHING CODE THAT SHOWED UP AFTER THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TCM. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD EXTEND THIS WARRANTY FOR THESE EFFECTED CARS, THERE ARE MANY WITH THIS PROBLEM, WE HAVE RESEARCHED THROUGH THE COMPLAINTS. I WANT FORD TO COVER THE COSTS OF PARTS, LABOR AND ANY COSTS RELATED TO THE REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY WERE FULLY AWARE OF. WHAT THEY DIDN'T TELL ME WAS THAT NHTSA AND FORD MOTOR HAD A RECALL TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER/TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT SEAL WHICH HAS A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR FREE,THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ME OVER $2000 DOLLARS TO HAVE FIX. THE FIELD SERVICE ACTION NUMBER IS 14M01 AND THE FSA TITTLE IS TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JANUARY 2018 FROM DICK GENTHE CHEVROLET AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT SAFELY SINCE THE MIDDLE OF 2019. UNTIL NOW,I TRIED TO GET THEM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK,AND THEY WOULD NOT. I HAVE HAD THE TCM ON THIS VEHICLE REPLACED TWICE AFTER TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION LIGHT SUDDENLY CAME ON. IT CAME ON A THIRD TIME AND THE ISSUE STILL CAUSES TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION INDICATOR TO ILLUMINATE, HOWEVER THIS TIME IT IS MY DUAL CLUTCH. SAME SYMPTOMS IN THE VEHICLE EVERY TIME. WITH NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER, FAIL TO CHANGE GEARS, SHUTTER FORWARD AFTER STOPPING, COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. TWO DAYS AGO DRIVING UPHILL, MY VEHICLE, WITH NO WARNING AT ALL, STARTED GOING IN REVERSE, DOWN THE HILL. I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A CLASS ACTION SUIT WITH FORD THAT IS TAKING FOREVER TO SETTLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN BRONX AND THEY TOLD I HAVE A CLUTCH PROBLEM, PLUS TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THEY DONT COVER THE RECALL, ACCORDING THE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THE DAMAGE IS INTERNAL. BUT THE RECALL FOR FORD FIESTA 2011 EXISTING BECAUSE OF TRANSPORTATION FAIL. ALL OF THESE FAILING HAPPENED EITHER UPON TAKING OFF OR DURING TRANSIT. I'VE HAD THE CAR LURCH AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR IN TRAFFIC AS WELL AS FAIL WHILE DRIVING DURING RUSH OUR TRAFFIC; PREDOMINANTLY ON CITY STREETS BUT ALSO OCCASIONALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AT LOWER SHIFTS. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN "FIXED" AND "ASSESSED" MORE TIMES THAN I BELIEVE AND CAR PROBLEM SHOULD BE WITHOUT BEING RESOLVED. EVERY TIME I WOULD DISCUSS WHY IT CONTINUES THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WOULD ALWAYS SAY "THAT'S JUST HOW THEY WORK" OR SOME OTHER NONCHALANT VERBAGE TO SHRUG OFF THE PERSISTING PROBLEM THAT I'M PAYING FOR. UPON SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND OR JUST ENGAGING THE CLUTCH THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF, USUALLY AS I APPROACH A STOP LIGHT OR AM IN A PARKING LOT. SOMETIMES IT IS A ROUGH STOP LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT FULLY DISENGAGED, BUT MOST OFTEN IT IS SMOOTH AS IF TURNING OF THE CAR WITH THE KEY. THE SILENT SHUT DOWN OCCURS BOTH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, ANY WHERE FROM 1-70 MPH, AND WHEN A COMPLETE STOP HAS BEEN REACHED. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN AT LEAST TWO DOZEN TIMES IN THE 2.5 YEARS I HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR. APPROXIMATELY, 80% OF THE TIME IT IS THE 'SILENT SHUT DOWN', WHERE I DO NOT EVEN NOTICE THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING UNTIL I PUT THE CAR BACK INTO GEAR AND TRY TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED AT STOP LIGHTS IN TRAFFIC SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED AT ALL TIMES OF THE YEAR WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER BOTH ON AND OFF, BUT IT IS MUCH MORE PREVALENT IN THE WARM WEATHER WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. IN THE PAST WEEK IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALL OF WHICH WERE WITH THE AIR ON, AND THE ENGINE SILENTLY SHUT DOWN.

FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2011 FORD FIESTA. IT IS A MANUAL. I'M NOT STALLING IT, BUT WHEN I'M DRIVING- WHETHER I'M STOPPED OR ACTUALLY MOVING (EVEN AT 45 + MPH) IT WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE RPMS SOMETIMES FALL 2-300 BELOW RANDOMLY BUT WILL COME BACK AND KEEP GOING. HOWEVER, WHEN THEY FALL AND FOR WHATEVER REASON THE VEHICLE CAN'T FIGURE OUT THAT THE RPMS SHOULD BE HIGHER, IT SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. WHEN IT ACTUALLY SHUTS OFF I HAVE NO WARNING. THE 2011 FORD FUSION HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND IS NOW COVERED FOR FREE UNDER A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM, ALL OF THE WINDOWS IN THE CAR ARE HARD TO RAISE, YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY PUSH THEM UP WHILE HOLDING THE UP BUTTON. THE THROTTLE ISSUE IS NEW BUT WHY DIDN'T THOSE CODES TURN UP PREVIOUSLY WHEN THE CAR EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS? IMO THIS IS A POORLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLE. ONLY 79K MILES AND SOOOOO MANY PROBLEMS.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WITH MY CAR. PREVIOUSLY THE CAR GAVE OUT IN THE HILLS OF A SF. THE CAR SAID IT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND WOULD NOT GIVE ANY PROPULSION RISKING GOING BACKWARD ON A HILL. THE DEALER UPDATED THE SOFTWARE. THEY SAID THIS WAS THE FIX. THEY SAID AFTER 1000 MILES IT SHOULD FIX ITSELF. SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING MUCH MORE SLUGGISH. IT FORCES ITSELF ON ACCELERATING. IT JERKS MUCH MORE EXCESSIVELY WHEN I TAKE OFF THE GAS. IT JERKS MUCH MORE WHEN I BRAKE AND I HEAR THE METAL GRINDING AND CLANKING TOGETHER. IT WAS A REALLY BAD SOFTWARE UPDATE. 1000 PASSED AND WE RAN INTO ANOTHER PROBLEM. I HAD THE CAR PARKED IN THE HOUSE. TRIED TO TURN CAR BACK ON AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. I HEARD CLICKING NOISE AS IF THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. I HAD DOME LIGHTS ON FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT NOTHING EXCESSIVE. SHOULDN'T DIE OUT LIKE THAT. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO TURN IT ON AND NOTHING. STARTED TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR BACKUP. I THEN REMOVED THE CAR CHARGER I HAD PLUGGED IN AND TRIED AGAIN. THE CAR SPUTTERED ON AND STARTING GIVING ME NOTIFICATIONS. A SERVICE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. ALSO THE DISPLAY SAID THAT THERE WAS A "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION" AND TO SERVICE IT NOW. THE ENGINE WAS REALLY FORCING ITSELF AS I HEARD IT. RPM WAS HIGH EVEN GOING SLOW. CAR STILL SPUTTERS ON AFTER A FEW TRIES. CHECKED THE CODES THROUGH OBD2. CAR WAS THROWING P0606. SAID THAT IT WAS ECM/PCM PROCESSOR PROBLEM. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR. I FEEL LIKE ITS COMPLETELY FALLING APART ALL AROUND. HORRIBLE CAR WITH TOO MANY ISSUES!!!! IN NOVEMBER OF 2014 I RECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE ON MY 2011 FORD FIESTA ABOUT A 'SHUTTERING' ISSUE WITHIN THE MOTOR/TRANSMISSION. SINCE THIS TIME, MY CAR HAS GONE BACK EVERY 3 MONTHS TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE REPAIRED. THIS WILL BE TRANSMISSION NUMBER 4 WITHIN 1 YEAR. I WAS ALREADY TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY CAR CANNOT BE REPAIRED. FORD CANNOT FIX THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN GREAT, THEY HAVE BEEN HONEST WITH ME FROM THE START. THEY HAVE ADVISED THAT THEY WILL CONTINUE TO TRY AND FIX THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL IT RUNS OUT. THE 2012 FIESTAS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION THUS, THE ISSUE IS FIXED. I CALLED MY FINANCE COMPANY AND ASKED THEM IF I CAN RETURN THE CAR SINCE THE CAR CANNOT BE REPAIRED. I WAS ADVISED I HAD TO GO THROUGH FORD AND HAVE THEM START THE PAPERWORK. I WAS FURTHER ADVISED THAT THE PAPERWORK HAS TO BE CODED TO REFLEX THE CAR CANNOT BE REPAIRED, THEREFORE IT IS CODED DIFFERENTLY TO REFLECT ON MY CREDIT REPORT AS A VOLUNTARY REPOSSESSION DUE TO UNREPAIRABLE VS JUST NON-PAY. I CALLED FORDS CUSTOMER RELATION TEAM 1-800-392-3673 OPTIONS 1,4 &5. I SPOKE WITH RENEE WHO ADVISED I HAD TO GO TO FORD CREDIT TO GET THE PAPERWORK. RENEE ADVISED ME MY CAR IS TOO OLD FOR THEM TO BUY BACK (MY CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD). SHE FURTHER ADVISED THE NUMBER AS 800-727-7000. SHE ADVISED THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO HELP ME. I CALLED FORD CREDIT AND SPOKE WITH CHAD WHO ADVISED ME HE COULD NOT HELP ME SINCE ALL I WANT TO DO IS RETURN MY CAR AND HAVE THE PAPERWORK CODED THAT IT IS BEING RETURNED BECAUSE THE CAR CANNOT BE REPAIRED. I DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG, I PAY FOR MY CAR EACH MONTH AND EVEN FOR THE MONTHS WHEN MY CAR IS AT THE GARAGE. I WANT TO RETURN THE CAR AND HAVE MY CREDIT SCORE NOT AFFECTED BY THE RETURN.

WHILE IN MOTION, MY VEHICLE HAD AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE SERVICE WRENCH APPEARS, AND DISPLAYS "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, SEIVCE NOW" THE ENGINE THEN DERATES AND RUNS VERY ROUGH. WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, IT IS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GERARS WITHOUT STALLING. UPON TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING, THE ENGINE RESETS AND RUNS NORMALLY. OCCURENCES ARE RANDOM WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN ONE INSTANCE MY ENGINE NEARLY STALLED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. FORD HAS A TSB FOR THE ISSUE (13-11-15) THAT INVOLVES CHANGING THE WIRING OF THE CAR. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE ELEVATED TO RECALL STATUS SO THAT REPAIRS ARE COVERED. GIVEN THAT IT IS A DESIGN ISSUE THAT WAS BUILT IN TO THE VEHICLE AND REQUIRES A CHANGE TO THE WIRING TO FIX, FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SERVICE. I WAS BILLED $442.85 BY MY DEALER TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE.

I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND PUT IN NEUTRAL TO NAVIGATE TRAFFIC TO GET TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR DIED. IT COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK I WAS ABLE TO START CAR AGAIN AND TRIED TO DRIVE, IT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR AND THEN DIED. CAR WAS TOWED TO LONGMONT REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC THERE REACHED OUT TO FORD AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE AWARE OF THOSE ISSUES BUT PART WAS ON 6 MONTH BACKORDER. CAR WAS THEN PICKED UP BY FORD OF LONGMONT. THEY SAID THAT IT WASN'T THE TCM AND REPLACED 3 SMALLER PARTS. SIX DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING ON DIAGONAL HIGHWAY IN BOULDER CO AND THE CAR REFUSED TO ACCELERATE AND THE DIED. CAR WAS TOWED TO FORD OF LONGMONT AGAIN. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT FORD REQUIRES THAT WHEN REPLACING THE TCM THEY MUST FIRST REPAIR MINOR PART AND RETURN TO CUSTOMER AS "FIXED" AND WAIT FOR SUBSEQUENT PART FAILURE BEFORE REPLACING THE TCM. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I WAS GOING UP LOMBARD STREET IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH A FRIEND OF MINE AND 2 YOUNGER SISTERS. WE WERE WAITING IN THE LINE OF CARS, AS THERE IS ALWAYS AN AMOUNT TRYING TO GO UP THE FAMOUS STREET. AFTER 10 MINUTES IN TRAFFIC MY ENGINE LINE CAME UP WITH A WARNING STATING THE ENGINE WAS TO HOT. WHEN THE CARS MOVED UP MINES WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TRIED PUSHING ON THE GAS AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I WASN'T SURE WHAT TO DO SINCE MY CAR WAS STUCK ON AN INCLINE WITH A HEAVY AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC SO I TOLD MY FRIEND TO TAKE THE WHEEL. HE SOON NOTICED THAT ALTHOUGH THE CAR DIDN'T WANT TO GO UP IT WAS ABLE TO REVERSE. SO HIS IDEA WAS TO GO ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET WHERE THERE WERE NO CARS GOING AT THE MOMENT IN REVERSE. WITH MY LITTLE SISTERS FRIGHTEN IN THE CAR WE DECIDED IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO GET OUT OF THE HEAVY TRAFFIC INCASE I NEEDED TO CALL A TOE TRUCK. WE REVERSE THE CAR ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET ALL THE WAY DOWN AND WAS ABLE TO PARK IT CORNER IN REVERSE. WE DECIDED TO WAIT 20 MINUTES AND SEE IF THE CAR WOULD TURN ON, LUCKILY IT DID. SOON AFTER I TOOK IT TO FORD TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY STATED IT WAS NOT THE TRANSMISSION AND CHANGED A SMALL PART IN WHICH THEY CLAIM IT WOULD FIX IT. 2 MONTHS WE WENT TO GET ICE CREAM AND PARK THE CAR ON A HILL IN SAN FRANCISCO, MUCH SMALLER INCLINE. HOWEVER WHEN WE CAME BACK TO THE CAR IT DID TURN ON BUT THEN WHEN I TRY STEPPING ON THE GAS THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE, AGAIN. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED 5 MINUTES AND THEN TRIED AGAIN, THANKFULLY IT MOVED. I AM AFRAID IF DRIVING MY CAR IN ANY TYPE OF INCLINES FEARING MY CAR IS GOING TO STOP AGAIN. IT ALSO HAS THE TENDENCY TO SHAKE AND JERK A LOT. I'VE ALWAYS BROUGHT IT UP TO FORDS ATTENTION BUT THEY TELL ME THAT IS HOW THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED AND THAT IT IS NORMAL.

BECAUSE IF IT DID NOT TEST AT A CERTAIN LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE THE DEALER WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE TESTING OR REPAIR. I STATED I HAD A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 12MO1 LETTER FOR THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND THEY SAID IT DID NOT MATTER. I LEFT THE DEALER VERY UPSET AND DISSATISFIED. DROVE THE CAR AND THE SYMPTOMS WORSENED. I GOT INTO MY CAR ONE DAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN REVERSE. LUCKILY ON WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND COASTED OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT. DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID NOT HAVE THE NEW CLUTCH ASSEMBLY IN STOCK. I THEN ASKED FOR A RENTAL UNTIL THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BECAUSE I FELT IT WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE MY DAUGHTER IN WITH THE PROBLEMS IT WAS HAVING, I WAS TOLD NO. SO I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH THESE PROBLEMS FOR A WEEK UNTIL THE FORD DEALER RECEIVED THE NEW CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. THIS CAR IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO HAVE ON THE ROAD NOT ONLY FOR THOSE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BUT ALSO FOR THOSE CAR THAT DRIVE BEHIND THESE CARS. FORD ABSOLUTELY KNOWS THEY HAVE A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THE DUAL CLUTCH SYSTEM. REGULAR CLUTCHES ARE CONTROLLED HYDRAULICALLY BUT THESE DUAL CLUTCHES ARE CONTROL ELECTRONICALLY BY THE TCM WHICH HAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 14M01 THAT FORD HAS SENT OUT. BETWEEN THE LEAKING TRANSMISSIONS SEAL CORRUPTING THE CLUTCH AND THE TCM FAILING THAT CONTROLS THE CLUTCH THAT IS A DOUBLE JEOPARDY SITUATION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CAR TO HAVE ON THE ROADS.

I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND IT CAUSED ME TO ALMOST GET REAR ENDED TWICE AS IT WOULD ABRUPTLY STOP. THE ENGINE RAN, I COULD DRIVE, BUT IT WOULDN'T LET ME GO VERY FAST AND KEPT SWITCHING GEARS ON ME. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP, AND THEY SAID IT WAS A LOGIC ISSUE BUT COULD BE A FURTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND I SHOULD DRIVE IT UNTIL SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS. THEY ALSO PROMISED ME THAT THE LOGIC WAS FIXED AND NOTHING LIKE THAT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED A WEEK LATER EXACTLY AS IT HAD HAPPENED BEFORE. AGAIN, I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF HOW ABRUPTLY THE CAR STOPPED AND SPED UP. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF STORIES JUST LIKE THIS ONE.

FORD HAS SENT A LETTER EXPLAINING THERE HAVE BEEN DEFECTS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, BUT I HAVE CALLED 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS IT OCCURS DURING A TEST DRIVE BY THEIR TECHNICIANS. IF THE PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR DURING THEIR TEST DRIVE THEY WILL CHARGE ME OVER $100 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS. THIS DEFECT IS KNOWN TO FORD, YET THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT ENOUGH THAT I CAN BRING IT IN, KNOWING THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR ON THAT PARTICULAR TEST DRIVE. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE ROAD, DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM HAS ALSO CAUSED OTHER ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. WHILE PARKED WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING (ABOUT 30 MINUTES IN 87 DEGREE WEATHER WITH THE AC ON), THE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT TRIED TO GO INTO DRIVE AND ROCKED FORWARD SLIGHTLY. I LOOKED AT THE DASH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TESTED THE VEHICLE AND IT SEEMED ROAD WORTHY ENOUGH TO TRY AND GET HOME. WHEN DRIVING HOME AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR'S DISPLAY FOR PARK, NEUTRAL, REVERSE, DRIVE, STARTED QUICKLY FLASHING BETWEEN DRIVE AND PARK. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE WHILE THIS WAS GOING ON. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND THEN MET FAIRLY HEAVY RESISTANCE PUTTING IT BACK INTO DRIVE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF FLASHING BETWEEN DRIVE AND PARK, IT STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THE SAME THING HAPPENED A FEW MINUTES LATER WHILE I WAS ABOUT TO TURN INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME I TRIED TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF THAT WOULD REMEDY THE ISSUE. I WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO AFTER BECAUSE IT WAS ACTING AS IF I WAS IN DRIVE (OR THE FAST PARK / DRIVE FLUTTER) AND TRYING TO START IT. IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS, YET I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON WHAT THIS PROBLEM IS. I DID RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE THAT SPELLS OUT THE EXACT SYMPTOMS THAT I HAD, YET THE MECHANIC HAS TWICE SAID IT IS VERY UNLIKELY THAT THE RECALL PART, THE TCM OR TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (WHICH IS BACK ORDERED SIX WEEKS), IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM.

THEY OPENED A CASE NUMBER AND DIRECTED ME TO ASK THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I TOOK IT FOR REPAIRS IF THEY WOULD HELP OUT. THEY DID NOT HELP WITH THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIR. I ASKED MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY AND FORD MOTOR TO MEET AND HAVE THE CAR ASSESSED FOR MECHANIC FAILURES AFTER THE CRASH SEVERAL TIMES. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY 2013 AS A USED VEHICLE FROM THE FORD STORE IN SAN LEANDRO, CA. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT. THE FIRST THING THAT BROKE WAS MY PASSENGER SIDE VISOR. EVEN THOUGH "VISORS AND FRONT SEAT SRS WARNING" IS CHECKED OFF ON THE 172 POINT INSPECTION FORM I WAS GIVEN, THE VISOR HAD A CRACK IN THE PIECE OF THE VISOR THAT HELD IT TO THE ROOF OF THE CAR. ALL THREE OCCURRENCES REQUIRING MY CAR TO BE TAKEN TO A SHOP FOR REPAIRS INVOLVED THE VEHICLE MOVING AT HI-WAY SPEEDS. WHILE TRAVELLING AT 65MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL CUT OUT AND ENGINE DIED, SO I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVENTUALLY IT RESTARTED AND I GOT HOME. THE ISSUE WAS ELECTRONIC IN NATURE ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, AND TOOK IT FOR SERVICE. THE PART WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE AND WHEN ASKED, THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE PART CAME IN. THE REPAIR WAS MADE UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND PROBLEM WAS VERY SIMILAR TO THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM, BUT WAS NONETHELESS ELECTRONIC IN NATURE. THE REPAIR WAS MADE UNDER WARRANTY. THE THIRD AND MOST RECENT ISSUE INVOLVES THE TRANSMISSION. ON MY DAILY COMMUTE, CRUISE SET AT 65MPH, THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED. THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE DRIVETRAIN. WHEN I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER, NO GEAR COULD BE ACHIEVED. WHEN SHUT OFF, THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER ABOUT TEN MINUTES, AFTER MANY CLUNKING AND CLICKING NOISES HAD OCCURRED UNDER THE HOOD, THE CAR STARTED AND I CONTINUED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN...AND AGAIN. THIS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES IN 30 MILES, AND FINALLY THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. THIS WAS ABOUT FIVE MILES FROM HOME AND MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE CAR IS TWO YEARS OLD WITH 85,000 MILES. ALL MILES ARE HI-WAY MILES. ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED WITH RECEIPTS. THIS VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD, FOR INTERMITTENT, TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL ON THE HI-WAY, AS WELL AS LEAVING THE OCCUPANTS STRANDED AT RISK, ON THE SHOULDER OF SAID HI-WAY. FORD DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE PUBLICALLY THAT THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM (I.E. RECALL). *TR

OVER THE PAST 1 1/2 MONTHS MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON THE FREEWAY 6 TIMES. EACH TIME THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON, THE DISPLAY READ "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND "SERVICE NOW". WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN, THE ENGINE TACHOMETER WOULD FIRST DROP TO 1000 RPM AND THE ACCELERATOR WOULD BECOME NON-RESPONSIVE. SOON AFTER THAT THE ENGINE WOULD JUST REV AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL; THEN "BAM" THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ENGAGE ABRUPTLY AND MAKE A LOUD BANG NOISE AND LAG WHEN SHIFTING. THIS HAS BECOME A MAJOR CONCERN AS I HAVE HAD PEOPLE ALMOST RUN INTO THE REAR OF ME BECAUSE OF MY DECLINE IN SPEED. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK TO NORMAL OPERATION IS TO COMPLETELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND RESTART IT, UNFORTUNATELY BY DOING THIS IT RESETS THE FAULT CODES AND DOES NOT RETAIN THE INFORMATION FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE. I HAD BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT FOR A WEEK. THEY INSTALLED A "FLIGHT RECORDER" AND DROVE FOR OVER 114 MILES TO TRY TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM; BUT COULD NOT. I HAD PICK ED UP MY CAR DISSAPOINTED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND AS A RESULT COULD NOT FIX IT. WHEN I DROVE MY VEHICLE THAT SAME DAY TO WORK, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT ONLY 26 MILES AFTER THEIR TESTING. I HAVE SEEN ON OTHER WEB SITES THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER 2011 FORD FIESTA'S, I ONLY HOPE FORD COMES UP WITH A FIX FOR THIS ISSUE SOON AS IT SEEMS TO ME TO BE A PROGRAM ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLES COMPUTER. *TR

I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE AND IT CONTINUES. INITIALLY, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING. AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR, THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE SECOND REPAIR CORRECTED THE SHAKING, BUT NOW (AT 15,755 MILES) THE CAR WILL (1) MAKE GRINDING METALLIC NOISES WHEN SHIFTING, (2) FAIL TO SHIFT ON ANY INCLINE (INSTEAD IT REVS TO APPROXIMATELY 2500 RPMS AND "STICKS" THERE), (3) JOLT FORWARD WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AS IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED DOWN, AND (4) ROLL BACKWARDS ON HILLS AS IF IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I UNDERSTAND THAT (4) CAN BE COMMON AMONG NEWER AUTOMATICS THAT ATTEMPT HIGHER FUEL ECONOMY. HOWEVER, NUMEROUS TIMES THE SPEED AT WHICH THE CAR ROLLS BACK HAS INCURRED A SAFETY RISK. THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF PREVENTING THE CAR FROM STARTING. THE CIRCULAR LUG USED TO CONNECT THE CABLE TO THE POSITIVE BATTERY POST IS TOO THIN FOR THE SIZE OF THE CABLE AND EXTRA SAFETY FUSES AND CIRCUITRY. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE SUCH A POORLY DESIGNED PART HAS A LEAD TIME FROM FORD'S OEM IN MEXICO OF 4-6 WEEKS. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT NORTH CENTRAL FORD IN RICHARDSON, TEXAS, SINCE 15 AUGUST. AFTER MISSING THE PART DELIVERY DEADLINE THREE TIMES THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR. AS OF THE WRITING OF THIS ISSUE THE FORD FIESTA HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 26 DAYS, STILL WAITING FOR THE ORIGINAL PART FROM THE OEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN HE BEGAN TO SMELL GASOLINE FUMES. THE ODOR WAS SO OVERPOWERING THAT EVEN AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE HE COULD STILL TASTE AND THE SMELL GASOLINE IN HIS HAIR AND CLOTHING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AND WOULD BECOME STRONGER WITH EVERY RECURRENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHO REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A SECOND DEALER. THE SECOND DEALER WAS ABLE TO LOCATE AN OIL LEAK AROUND THE SEAL, WHICH WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,700. THE FAN CONTINUED TO BE INOPERABLE. THE CONSUMER COULD SMELL HOT STEEL UNDER THE HOOD. WHILE GOING UP A MOUNTAIN, THE MOTOR TIMING WENT OFF THEN WENT BACK UP. ALSO, WHEN IT RAINS FOR AT LEAST 3 DAYS THE MOTOR PICKS UP THE MOISTURE, THEN THERE IS A GAS SMELL. BURNING IN THE NOSE AND BURNING TASTE FOLLOWS FOR ONE NIGHT.
